About This Class

The Embossed Leaf Necklace class is perfect for improving your confidence with your jeweller's saw and your rolling mill! As the name of the class suggests, I'm going to show you how to use simple watercolour paper to create a lovely texture on your metal before giving you the same sawing hints and tips I give my workshop students to help you saw the shape out.

This is a perfect beginner's project as it is quick yet teaches a lot of the important skills that you will need to go on to more advanced projects. It also doesn't need very much silver which helps to keep the costs down! The project doesn't need that many tools, although the rolling mill is the most expensive piece of equipment. If you don't have access to a rolling mill you can still create by using the paper punch to cut a template to be sawn out and textured with hammers.

I'll take you through all the steps from setting up your rolling mill to attaching the chain, showing you the same hints and tips that I teach my students in my workshop.

The equipment needed for the project is explained in the videos and also listed on a downloadable document. I have kept the equipment needed to a minimum, and all the equipment listed can be used for a variety of other jewellery making projects. The second downloadable class document available is a booklet to help you improve your sawing.

This class is part of a series teaching you all the basic but essential silversmithing skills that you need to create beautiful jewellery. My aim is to get you confident with sawing, filing, texturing and shaping your silver, and to add in some beginner stone-setting techniques too.
