Project Description

Your mission to illustrate and color any runway look then add your own patterns on the dress itself. This video course is your guide to drawing any type of patterns on your illustrations. The purpose of this class project is to develop your understanding of patterns and how to incorporate them on illustrations and designs. This technique is applicable to postcards, drawings, logos … etc. So knowing the basics will definitely help you develop your own style in drawing and painting patterns.

  • Watercolor sketchbook ( I'm using sketchbooks from Muji store ).
  • Watercolors + color palette ( Talens Petit Color by Sakura Color = Available on Amazon)
  • Copic Markers ( Any of their types will do )
  • Paint brushes
  • Pencil and eraser
  • Pencil colors ( Maped brand = Available on Amazon )
  • Fineliner markers ( Staedtler )
  • Gold pigment powder for pattern drawing ( Availble on Amazon )

You don't have to stick with the brands I'm using just work with similar materials which you're most

comfortable with. As for the pigment powder, I tried another type which didn't give the same result as the shimmery gold powder I'm using. So you have to be a little picky when choosing your own metallic powder pigment. I too love trying out different materials using different brands so I'll definitely find something similar and I'll definitely share the results.

  • Create your own pattern on a runway look.
  • Draw random patterns on a scrap paper ( Optional ).
  • Show the procees of drawing your patterns from the scratch on a piece of paper before painting it on your fashion illustration.

Project Description

This assignment is fairly easy. For instance, if the runway look you chose has patterns on the dress you can copy the same pattern but draw it your own way. You don’t have to mimic it exactly. Also, you are free to choose the pattern you want to incorporate on the dress itself. So your final project will consist of an illustrate patterned dress.

I'd like to see the process of creating your patterns from the scratch. It's important especially when designing patterns more professionaly. It helps you notice the progress you did after months.
