About This Class

Welcome to the Double Oval Drops Earrings class! If you've watched any of my other jewellery making video classes you'll already know that I like to get the most out of my tools and equipment - after all, they've cost me money so they need to pay their way! One of my favourite (yet more expensive) pieces of equipment is my disc cutter. It is very good quality and is still doing as good a job now as it did when I bought it ten years ago, but to get best value for money I like to use it for more than just cutting simple round discs.

This class is one of a few that I have filmed that will teach you how to get more from your disc cutter. I'll show you how to turn round discs into ovals that we will then solder back to back to create a lovely 3D design. This class will also help you to improve your delicate soldering skills.

This is one of a series of video classes, each one showing you how to quickly and easily make a lovely pair of earrings - sometimes two pairs - as part of my #52earrings challenge. I have challenged myself to design and film tutorials for 52 pairs of earrings in 2017, and I'd love you to join me. In each video I will show you the materials you will need, explain the tools and equipment and go through all the steps needed to create your own lovely pair of earrings. Along the way I will share with you the same hints and tips that I teach in my jewelry making classes and private tuition so that you become more confident with your techniques and design skills with each class that you watch.

This class is an intermediate class as the soldering will take a little patience! However, In the soldering sections of the class I will discuss some ways you could simplify the design.

The equipment needed for the project is explained in the videos and also listed on a downloadable document that covers most of the tools that I will use in future earrings video classes as well so you can plan ahead! All the equipment listed can be used for a variety of other jewellery making projects.

I had some ideas in my head, and my sketchbook, but this class showed me how to make them into reality. Thanks Jo. Great tips, as always.
Enjoyed this class very much!! What brand of flux do you use?

Jewellery Designer, Tutor and Writer

I have been making my own jewellery for as long as I can remember and left my first career as a school teacher to set up business as a jewellery designer and tutor nearly 10 years ago. I am self-taught and like many people I started with wire and beads. Learning how to solder, however, opened up a whole new world of jewellery making! There is something so magical about watching solder flow through a seam, joining two pieces of metal together smoothly.

I work from my studio on the south...
