Join writer and creator Jenny Bristol as you learn to carve out some time in your busy schedule for a bit of self-discovery and self-expression. Whether your interests lie in writing, drawing, crafts, mindfulness, autodidactism, or becoming reacquainted with your inner child, students of all levels will learn some strategies and tips to finding a few extra minutes each day. You will also learn how to commit to using this time for yourself. Use it to pursue interests you feel you don't have time for, learn a new skill, or learn more about yourself. Determine what parts of yourself you want to develop.

It's not unusual to get to even middle age and not be quite sure who you are, or to change as you get older and lose sight of whom you've become. The 5-minute daily exercise practice that you'll gain from taking this class can help you explore your ideas, your interests, your motivations, and the corners of your mind, and become acquainted or reacquainted with who you are. Don't worry if you aren't sure how to spend your daily 5 minutes; this class includes dozens of ideas in a variety of creative areas.

This class is the first in a series designed to help you get to know yourself better. Knowing what we like, why we behave the way we do, and where our reactions stem from help us form and maintain successful relationships and make progress toward our goals. No prior knowledge or specific materials are needed for this class, but if you have a particular interest, you'll need any materials to practice that interest (such as art supplies, writing supplies, a sun hat, etc.).

For your class project, you'll create your own plan to express yourself in 5 minutes a day in the form of a 3-day challenge. Steps will include brainstorming ideas, gathering materials, carving out time, and committing to the practice of regular self-expression. After doing this quick daily exercise for your first month, you can recommit to continuing the practice you had chosen, or choose to spend those 5 daily minutes in a different way. Or, maybe, your month of effort will have done its job and pointed you in a new direction. This is your practice, and you get to decide what it looks like and where it will take you. Use the provided worksheets to get started, or create your plan in whatever format works for you. Either way, share your plan and the results of your self-expression practice in the project gallery!
