I'm a graphic designer who predominantly designs law goes for a living. When a design my law goes are always ensure that a use capable vector graphics software. There are a few great vector graphics software programs on the market, but non offer the same attractive asset is ink scape. Escape is free and always will be free to date. It's the best free graphics program, which allows us to create attractive vector graphics in a suitable for Matt. I'm going to reveal to you the entire process of professional log or design from start to finish using ink skip, which you can acquire without dipping into your wallet. This means you can start a local business for nothing, or you can design the local for yourself for nothing. Creativity shouldn't be restrained nor delayed, so let's dive in and get creating 3. Pencil Tool: now one of the pencil tool. The keyboard shortcut for this is F six, and the pencil tool is used to draw freeform lines or paths at the top. In the tool control bar, you'll say we have two options for moored. The first is create regular Bazzi a path, and the second is create spiral path. Now, the fundamental difference between these two more words is the spire or more tends to work well for paths that are circular. In short, this mortar is always trying to push a more circular form. The option excellent is the smooth option, and this dictates how simple the resulting path is gonna bay. So I'm gonna move this down by clicking on the arrow on, will take it down to around 20 and then I'll demonstrate each more. So first will select the regular busier path, and I'm gonna draw out a squiggly line. So now you'll say, If we select the Nord Tool, you see that their shape has her randomness amount of nodes. We wouldn't want this for a path because not only is this impractical for an illustration, it's also draining on computer memory. So what we want to do is we go back to the pencil tool, and we want to bring this smooth option up to make the path more simple before we do. So I'll create a path with the spire or more. I'll put this alongside this one, and you say this is trying to force circles? Looks rather bizarre, but you'll say the use of the spiral more as we move up with smoothness. So I'm gonna take this now up to around 60. I want to go back to this regular spiral, the regular Battier. Rather, I want to draw another wiggly line. As you'll see with the smooth option turned up, we have a very nice flowing path. They I was selecting the spire or path. You see, this is being made too simplistic because the path of Drew didn't have enough curvature. It couldn't force the circles as it wants to. So this smoothness is too much for the spiral mort. But for the regular more, this is perfect, she'll say. Every click on the Nord Tool, you say that we only have three nodes to the shape every click on the other one. We only have two Nords to this shape. So this is perfect, but it depends upon what we're actually illustrating for the suitability of the smoothness setting Andi the Mord. But for something to appreciate as a stand alone, this is a perfect curve right here. So let's go ahead and try and find that sweet spot for the spire or more to see what would gain from this. So I'm going to switch this down just from 61. Maybe we'll try 40 in the smoothness and I'm gonna draw out that same wiggly line. Now you'll see what we have achieved Here is a nice flowing line, which is very circular at either end. So that's a perfect sweet spot on perfect demonstration of how this spiral moored works for the pencil to 4. Pencil Tool Part 2: Now let's go ahead and take a look at the pencil tool shape option here. You'll see it's currently set it non. However, if we click, we have a drop down on. The first option is Triangle End. Fecal hadn't select this and draw a line using the pencil to you can see that it's drawn a line, but it doesn't represent much of a triangle, so we'll go ahead and increase its size. And now you'll see that the triangle becomes apparent. It stops thick and ends to a point on the right inside here. Next, going to draw a line with an Exxon triangle out. I will increase its and size to see what it's actually done. Now this is actually glitch it on the Mac here. What there should have. Bean is the opposite of what you see above. So it should. It started at the point and ended at the thick end, but this hasn't happened. This there's a couple of lectures on Mark, and this is one of them and escape. Unfortunately, that's one of the next, which is a lips. I will draw lying on the dinner if you can see that. But that's actually composed of an ellipse. Now, the last option and the drop down is from clipboard. Now, unfortunately, this doesn't tend the work on a Mac itude were glitch, but I'm gonna explain it. Anyways, you could essentially make your own brush from this option. That's a very powerful option. So if I select the pen tool, for example, and I just draw out a shape like so if I remove the stroke on the Give it, Phil, any cooler on differ. Now select this and I go to the following icon at the right inside or both, depending on your layout. Copy selection. A clipboard keyboard Sure could control and see Now, when I go on, use the pencil to With From clipboard selected, I can now draw with their shape as the brush, so to speak. So this is a very powerful function as of state that this does unfortunately, glitch on the Mac. So as you'll see, it actually doesn't apply the brush that I've just created. Admittedly, I don't use it and log or design. Hence why? The glitch isn't an issue, but you might have a use for it and general artwork. So I suggest you take a look 5. Rectangle Tool: so let's go ahead and explore the rectangle to keyboard. Shortcut for the rectangle tool is F four selecting less truth with name. I can draw a rectangle. I can also draw a square now and go ahead and draw a more perfect square by holding control on the keyboard. This locks it down on the horizontal and the vertical. You see what we can go off the drawer? Different ratios of rectangles. But if we keep the cursor around the bottom corner, it does lock it down so we can draw perfect square like So Now you'll see that in each instance our drew those ships, each one was a dark red. Now this will happen every time I go back to the rectangle tool to draw a rectangle. However, if we double click on the icon on the toolbar you'll see we now have the preferences in which weaken select last style used a last you style rather on And the next option is this tools on style. So with this select that didn't choose your own fill stroke I'm gonna go ahead and select this to demonstrate on gonna draw a new rectangle. Now you say the new rectangle drawers with a blue fell Now is a feature of the rectangle to which are likely gonna demonstrate, and I'm gonna click into the corner of the skway So clicking this Nord and bring it down you'll see that it starts to round the corners. Now I can also do the same with the rectangle. A poof clicking the top Nord. I'm bringing it down like so epic Unz around the corners. If it pull it all the way down to the sender, you'll say it makes a pill shape. Now, if you've made these changes, given the rectangles around that corner are the squares and you wish to return back to the sharp corners. You can go to the tool control bar and you click this button up here and it returns it back to its original state. Likewise written do with this rectangle appear and clicking that again returns it back to the original sharp cornered rectangle. Also on the tool control by you'll see that we can adjust the height and width of ships to various sizes are we can stipulate the metric so instead, pixels feet, millimeters centimeters, etcetera, so lack of a rectangle tool, which is primarily used to draw rectangles and squares, which in England and manipulate with a rounded corners 6. Selection Tool: Okay, now let's go on with a little bit more detail with the selection tool. That's the arrow in the toolbox. Now, a little. This is simple. I'm gonna show you. Anyways, I'm gonna use the rectangle tool to draw out a shape like so Now, with the selection tool selected, you can see that in use it to click and drag the ship anywhere like in the document. I can also click and select one of these corners to increase the size of the square or any other object. So, noting the keyboard shortcut by mouse over in the selection tool in the toolbox, you say that it's F one. So if ever you have another tool selected in the tool box, you can always press F one or function F one. If you use a Mac to return back to the selection to so that covers a selection tool, it's basically used to select, move and manipulate objects 7. Spiral Tool: Now let's take a look at the spiral Tuell spiral tool can be selected to use an F nine on the keyboard or simply select that form the toolbox. So clicking upon that I want to go out in the converse here on, and I want to draw spiral now this spiral and be adjusted by going to the top to control bar. From here. We in the just three options, which are turns, divergence and inner radius so we'll go ahead and adjust each of these to see what kind of affected has. First, let us adjust the turns so we'll click up. It's currently set at three, and you'll see now it gives this spiral. Agree it a number of turns. That's to say it's a great a spiral that goes around more times. So if we click that, you'll see that the point keeps on going around or the inner keeps on getting tighter. So moving over to divergence, it's currently set on one. So we're gonna click up from here. It takes it up in tiny increments, and you see now that it's tightening, the spiral saw that it becomes mawr tight in the center and less and more spacious rather at the outside. So here we've created a kind of Nautile shell shape, so that's divergence. We go the opposite way. Misses the result like so if we take it back to the normal of shell kind of ship on, we go to the inner radius option. We can begin with just this. Clicking downwards on the inner radius has this result, and you'll see it keeps on digging into the sander the more we click downwards on the inner radius. So that's a spiral tool covered. Say what kind of uses you have for it in your projects. 8. Spray Tool: now one with spray tool, the spray tools located down here in the toolbox and the keyboard shortcut shift and F three To demonstrate the spray tool. I'm gonna draw out a few stars, so I want to click on the start to create a star here. One here, like So Now I'm gonna select all of these stars, and I'm going to select the spray tool. Now you'll see I have here a mortar option that is spray copies of the initial selection. Now, if I click and drag, you'll see that. And now draw several iterations off that star layout, which is highlighted above here. Now we have various options to the right. The first suggests the width of sprayer area relative to the visible Congress area. Now it's best just to go ahead and show you what this actually does. Rather than trying to figure out the words, you see that more of the scatter now the next is amount. Just a number of items spread per click, which is self explanatory, wouldn't bring us down and you'll see per click. There's less stars spread rotation. This changes the rotation off those stars that spread, so gives more of a random effect. It rotates in each instance. Also, we can do the same with scale, whereas in each spray some of the stars or the similar hole is in large or reduced from its original size. We have Scotland that works in the same kind of way. If there's a random placement of the symbol, which of highlight that the cluster of stars focuses the last week and increase this, we'll take it down to 10 to begin. And I'm going to scroll down just to get a clean a page here, and I'm gonna go ahead and just spray. I want to turn this up. We'll take that 99 as opposed to 10 where it was originally, and you'll see the stars are given a greater spread within the ring, so that covers the main features of this spray tool and ink Skip. Spiritual isn't something I use often is a log or designer, because I like to bake precise with the placement of my object sin graphics. But you might find a use for it in general graphic design, and that's exactly how it functions 9. Star Tool: So now let's explore the star to star to will convey selected, obviously in the toolbar or can be selected on the keyboard using shift and eight. That's the Asterix, or star symbol. Now if we click upon this, of course, use the keyboard shortcut. We can now go to the Congress and we can draw out the star. If we look at the tool control bar up top, you'll see that this star selected. We can also select polygon, So using the polygon here, we can now select this again and in the tool control bar weaken, select the number of corners like So we can also go here and select the roundness. Now you'll see the effect of this. If I click downwards on the roundness, you see, it makes bizarre shapes such as this. If we go ahead again and draw out a star, let's reduce the corners down to five on and we set. This is zero on the rounded nous you say we go back to the regular star to manipulate the star. We can also use this Nord down here selecting the star. Once again, we can click upon this Nord drag in or drag out and move laterally to make different shapes , like so we can also just this spoke ratio supposed to draw another star. If I just the spork ratio appear in the tool control panel, you'll see what kind of effect this has. So it does basically the same as what it does. Wanna control this Nord here so we can go ahead and increase the corners again just to see what kind of effect size on the star, and you'll see what can now create a kind of starburst shape. So this is the potential of the star tool. As you can see, it can be used just for primitive ships, such a star's polygons and triangles. But you can also go to town and create bizarre shapes like the one below. If we experiment further, I'm gonna show you another. Andi will enter a value into the rounded box in the to control. You say we now have kind of collide score patterns, which we can develop. Whether these have a use in our project is another matter entirely, but that's there for you to explore 10. Text Tool: okay now on the tax to the text to convey found down here in the tools. Or we can use a cabled shortcut. F it as a pop up stipulates this is used to create edit text objects. Clicking upon this, you say that we now have a range of options in the tool control bar Up top. We have the funds, we have the size of the font, and we have the quality of the font of the fund style, which is currently set on normal. We also have a variety of spacing and Kern ING options here to the right onside. Now, this is something that I do recommend that you avoid for the most part, in professional log or design, there's a practice known as manual turning, and this is the spacing of each character to the next. Now, well, we have options to do this up top. The computer actually doesn't do this properly, so it's always important to develop log or designs and to do turning, judging by the I. So I want to stipulate and emphasize that this should be avoided. For the most part, I'm gonna show you how to Kern manually, unprofessionally later in the course. So with the tool, the tax tool, select that we can either click in until we have a flashing cursor or we can draw attacks box. Now, just simply clicking in is the most common practice in law. Gore design because tax box attended, just used be used for paragraphs of information. So with that done, I'm gonna now Taipower word typing logo design. With that done, I can now resize this holding control to keep the ratio. I don't place it anywhere on the canvas if I go to this option at the right hand side or the top, if he using a different view. This cable chocolate is Chef Control and T, and this shows all the font options. Now, this doesn't offer much more than what you see in the tool control bar as of just demonstrated. But it does give some extra features on Did you can see each font before you actually apply it on. So I'm gonna go ahead and apply a new font to this text. So just scrolling down on schooling up again just to select something different on I'm going to apply a bold style and now we click apply. You'll now say this reflects and the text on the canvas. Next, just to satisfy your curiosity, we're gonna go to the to control and I'm gonna show you what effect that spacing has. The first is spacing between lines. This is applicable. The multiple lines, obviously, and not a single word or words on a single line spacing between the letters we can demonstrate. So if a type in a value here 20 you'll see it gives greatest basin between the letters. But as mentioned, the spacing isn't perfect because each character has a different quality in a different shape. This is why manual Kern ing and judging by I is absolutely vital. So if we undo this with Control and Zad shocker on the keyboard back and then demonstrate how we color on to do this, we certainly click, as you can imagine on a color at the bottom of the screen unless changes the color of the taxed. Now I can also at a stroke to this text, not a common thing and log or designed for me, because I like clean designs, just one solid color without outlines of strokes, but to assign a stroke. I can click the stroke paint tab and I can select flat color on. You'll see it's now assigned a black outline. As mentioned. This isn't something to do personally, but that is a stroke applied to text, So deleting that so it's nice and clean. There we have our text. That's how we create text and manipulate text in ink. Skip. It will be using this process far from this strokes quite often to develop our log orders. I 11. Tweak Tool: moving on to the tweak tool. The tweak tool is a wave icon on DWI. Use the cable Chilcutt Shift or F two or it's located in the tool box where my cursor is. That would demonstrate this and want to use the pen tool of first. I'm gonna draw out basic shape through a diamond shape with an outlying applied. I don't want to select the tweak, too. Now this is something that's more suited. Toe abstract work. Ah would struggle to find a use for it myself, particularly in log or design, because logo orders, I intense involved creation of specific, precise objects. But I assure you what this does. I do think it's an unnecessary tool to be quite honest, but I'll show you what it does, and you can see if you've got any use for in your work someone to go ahead and demonstrate the tweak tool. Here, you'll see that the curse is surrounded by an orange circle. This is the area in which the tweak tools obviously going to be active appear. We have the options. Width defines the size of the circle. As you'll see, I'm gonna reduce that once again, force every mouse over. This is the force of the tweak action. I want to turn this up. I don't wanna go or work. I'm gonna click upon the ship, See for has any effect so as it stands, is absolutely no effect whatsoever upon the ship. So in the Mord, I wanna click. Move objects in any direction. If I click this now, it can move the object in any direction. Next, move objects towards cursor. Silver click It does exactly the same is the last part from it moves central to the cursor by the looks of things. Move objects in random directions and I'm holding the mouse button and that's just jumping erratically. So you understand why I can't figure use for this next air? Shrink objects with shift and large, so clicking the object, you see that it shrinks. We could achieve this just by selecting it in reducing in size next in the Mord. As rotate objects with shift counterclockwise, we can also rotate objects by selecting them and using the arrows at the top, left hand corner top, right hand corner or bottom corners. So as you'll see, we have another object. Lee. So the stoop locates the object. Alternatively, wouldn't just use control and D is a keyboard shortcut duplicate. Next is push part of path in any direction, and this doesn't seem to have any effect here, So I'm gonna go onto the next shrink inset part of path with Shift Girl. Now all these. I don't think we're going to have any effect. And this is why I really don't favor this tweak to. And as I've mentioned, you can use the basic features of escape any ways to achieve what the tweak tool tries to achieve. So I'm going to skip the rest of these moored center know from experience at the dawn. 10 toe Have an effect. So it's a tweak tool, as you can probably gather to, not something I recommend. If in log orders eyeing you need a particular shape. You draw that shape with precision, so if you have a use for it, that's fair enough. I just thought a cover this because it does happen to be the third tool down for some reason and ink skip. But the panel tool, which is further down the toolbox, is a lot more important 12. Zoom Tool: Okay. Now on to the zoom tool, which is denoted by the magnifying glass. The keyboard shortcut his F three. So you might want to make north off that. If you want to quickly zoom in your work now, you'll see that we have a cursor of a magnifying glass with a plus inside of it. The plus symbol tells us that we're going to zoom in, clicking in the workspace. You'll see that it zooms in true to its name. If we hold shift, weaken, do the reverse and waken zoom out. We can also a zoom in and out by going to the menu view zoom, zoom in and zoom out. We also have an array of options down below such a zoom. One of the ratio of 112 etcetera Thes can also be found in the tool control bar. So with the magnify tool selected, you'll say those in the to control bar up top here to show you what each does of the score hadn't select. Beach Zoom men's obviously Zuman by one zoom in Wonder one shows 100% fo zoom out again just to show you the next zoom. Want to that's the result. Next one is 2 to 1. Next, Zuma fit selection. So something needs to be selected for this to work. Clicking that and now and largest zooms in so that selected object fits the entire screen. The next is Zuma. Fit, drawing and window. Now that won't work just yet. So need the Exume out again soon. If it page in window now, you say that the actual page, The document page is now just fitted neatly in the window there. Next, we have zoom to fit page wet and window clicking. Upon that you'll see now the page width is being extended. Teoh either point off the window left and right. So these lines that you see it left and right, actually the edge of the page so you'll see the top of the page. If we scroll up here, that's the top of the page there. Sanofi Zoom out again on we try another Previ assume, and I assure you where we were. Previously on Neck Zoom from the history of zooms shows you were before so that covers the the array of options there and the tool control bar for the zoom tool. So that's about as complicated as the zoom tool gets just around with short cut F three on Remember they Eagan press shift to zoom out. 13. Command Bar: Regardless of whether your command bars located on the right hand side or up top, you'll be using the same options. Either way, the command mark intends all popular options such a save, new documents and print etcetera. So it explore this. We're gonna look at the 1st 1 which is create new document cable chocolate. For this is control and an so clicking upon this you say the ink scape now opens up a new document closing this down. The next one is open an existing document clicking upon this, you'll see that now prompts us to locate a file from our computer. Closing this down the keyboard shortcut for open as control and all nexus save document keyboard shortcut control and s clicking upon this. This saves the document. Next is print document keyboard shortcut is Control and P. And of course, his prints. A document important bit map or S V G. M. A gentlest document keyboard shortcut control and I. This is particularly useful in log or design on situations when you want to import a sketch to trace over. This is something I use a lot personally in the log or design. Say we click upon this Andi, when I prompted again, similar to the open option for an image which we can then import into the document Cancel ness got the next option, which is export keyboard shortcut is shift control and a clicking upon this. We're now prompted to enter Cem export options, and from here we can export PNG file. So closing this down next is undue last action. This is pretty self explanatory. If you were to draw a circle, for instance, and we didn't want to draw that circle, we can click on Do On. It'll undo back to the blank document. Next is do again or redo, as it's commonly called in most programmes keyboard. Shock it for this is shift control and said the keyboard shortcut for the undue is controlled and Zet. That's particularly important because you will be using that often. Redo is simply the reverse off undo. So if I click, that's the circle would then appear going to the next. We have copy selection clipboard. You find yourself using this quite often. Keyboard shortcut is control and see to demonstrate this here we have a square on, and if we go to this option it's now in the clipboard and we can now pace this by going to paste. So there we have another square. Next we have caught. This works in a similar fashion. We can cut this. We can now paste it so nothing complicated there. The next is zoom option this convey found in the zoom tool options. Also, this is UMA Fit Selection on window. If we had the same circle again and we clicked upon this, you'll see that with the circle now fit wholly within the window. The next option, which is zoomed affect drawing in window works basically the same as the zoom option above . But it works for multiple objects. You see that if we have two circles on, we click upon this option, Zuma fit, drawing and window. You say that both are now contained within the whole page. Obviously this larger circles dictating the size of the view. So going back on and with the final option for the zoom weaken, select zoom to fit page and window. This is cable chocolate five. So the litanies will go on to the next option, which is duplicate selected objects using a circle again. If we click upon that, you'll see that we now have two circles. Next option is create a claw on and this works on a similar basis is the option above. With this, you can create ongoing patterns such as tiled formations. It's not something I use personally, and it isn't something of specialized in. But that is the function for this particular to next. You can create the same kind of effect by cloning again, but this option below treats each option as an independent entity. Next, we have group in the keyboard Shortcut for this is control and G you be using this often to demonstrate. I'm going to draw two squares as the stun. Currently, each is a separate entity to treat these both as a single entity. We highlight both. By dragging across Onda, we can click upon group. Now these objects will move as a pay. Next, we call Teoh the option below, which is on group The keyboard shortcut for this is shift control and G, and this works in a similar fashion, bringing back our squares. We can now click upon these on we click upon on group and now these are now separate and these once again. Next we have and it objects, colors, ingredients. The cable chocolate for this is chef control and F. If we click upon this, you say that we have various options for stroke and fill to demonstrate this. Let's go back to our Let's try star just for a change. Now you'll see that we can control colors of the star here in the Phil Top. We can also select stroke currently set on black stroke on. We'll bring it down to this cooler. That's change of Phil. Once again. After you click the stroke Stale top, you see that we're gonna lower the width of the stroke to make it finna. Also, we have options such as join and cap cap is a rounded end to align Onda. Square Cup is where there's a little bit more distance between the end point. On the actual end of the visual stroke, we can also add dashes. See, we are dashes to the star here, Andi, their markers below, which were a nod to each point. Like so. It's not something I use personally, but that is the fill on stroke panel, and that's activated again by shift control and F moving on to the next is the text option . Now this is used a hell of a lot in local design, as you can imagine. So if we click out now, type in some text and that in control it here in the text and font dialogue, the cable chocolate for this, a shift control and T I can type in my font name here to select that I can select this style of the frontier ongoing select size. Once this is done, we now go on a press apply now applies. That's to the text in the document, as you can see, so we now have a font called Ace up with the style of bold. So that's a text and font option. Shift control and T once again for the keyboard shortcut. Next, we have layers, which can be found here. Cable chocolate is shift control, and l, if it clicked upon this, will see that we now have the Layers panel pop up on. This is used to arrange work. Obviously, in the layers, we can have Leah's at the top layers at the bottom, etcetera and weaken group things within these layers in a nutshell. Layers is usedto organize work. So that's the layers panel on a shift control and l for that keyboard shortcut. Beneath this is view and edit the X TML tree This something a don't use, so ignore this entirely in graphic design, particularly in local design. Next is the align and Distribute Objects option, which is shift control on a on the keyboard. To demonstrate this, I'm going to draw a square. I'm gonna draw star. Now I want to click upon this and now you'll see we have a panel which pops up, which has an array of different options. You say first for the align options, we have a line right. We have a lying left, the line center, etcetera. So if we click and drive across seas to objects and we select send on vertical axis, you see that these two shapes are now sanded to demonstrate that again, click and drag across both Andi Select vertical center on vertical access, so these two are pulled into alignment. Similar to this, we could also highlight both of these shapes. Andrea Gordo, This option, which is center on horizontal axis, clicking upon that, you'll now say that both of these objects are now brought into alignment on the horizontal .
