I'm a graphic designer who predominantly designs law goes for a living. When a design my law goes are always ensure that a use capable vector graphics software. There are a few great vector graphics software programs on the market, but non offer the same attractive asset is ink scape. Escape is free and always will be free to date. It's the best free graphics program, which allows us to create attractive vector graphics in a suitable for Matt. I'm going to reveal to you the entire process of professional log or design from start to finish using ink skip, which you can acquire without dipping into your wallet. This means you can start a local business for nothing, or you can design the local for yourself for nothing. Creativity shouldn't be restrained nor delayed, so let's dive in and get creating 3. Toolbox Overview: Okay, so now we're gonna have a look at the tools. The tools are located at the left hand side. This is called the toolbar or the toolbox. Now the unique thing about Inc scape is when we mouse over to it actually tells us what the tool does. So you say the 1st 1 tells us that it selects and transforms objects. The next one tells us it edits paths by nodes, so you'll find it has a pop up for each one of these tools, which is handy. Also free. Double click on any one of the tools it brings up. Preferences pop up on weaken. Set various parameters within this. For now, we'll focus on the core tool, and the 1st 1 that we see is the selection tool. This is denoted by a black arrow, also on the pope. You'll see that we have F one stated. This is the keyboard shortcut, so pressing F one would select the selection tool nexus and nor, too. And this has the keyboard shortcut F one as it states this at its paths by Nords. Basically, we can use this tool to edit the Nords on a curve for example, the next is the tweak to honest weeks objects by sculpting or painting on the keyboard, Shortcut is shifting F two. Now this is basically usedto on kind of distorted. A factor. Shapes is one example. It can be used for a manner of things. It's not something I use often, but it is there anyways. Andi, the next is Zoom Tool. I think it's a self explanatory keyboard. Shortcuts F three and it to used to zoom in and out of your work. Next is the measure to basically this is just used to measure distances on the art boat keyboard. Shortcut for this is M. Next is the rectangle to Andi. This is used to create rectangles or squares. Keyboard shortcut is F one. Next is a three D tool, and this is used to create three D boxes. Keyboard shortcut for this is shifting F four Moving on to the next. We have ah, circle tool or a lips to this used to create circles and ellipses on the keyboard. Shortcut is F five. We can also create ox with this tool as stated in the pop up. Moving under the next. We can use this tool to create stars and polygons. Keyboard shortcut is star moving on to the next? It's a spiral to obviously we can create spirals with this on and cable chocolate is F nine . Moving on to the next is the pencil tool, and this is used to draw freehand lines of stated keyboard. Shortcut is F six. I don't tend. It uses often myself, but it is useful if you do have a graphics tablet or, if you wish to do some free handwork. Next is the best year curve tool, and this is used to draw paths, straight lines or curves. Keyboard shortcut for this is shifting. F six. Moving on to the next is a calligraphy tool, and this is used to draw brushstrokes, which is similar to that of a calligraphy pen or fountain pen. Cable chocolate, for this is control and F six Nexus the text tool, and this is used to create taxed, particularly useful four documents or log or designed to name a few keyboard chocolate for text is F eight. Next, we have the spray tool on the cable chocolate, for this is shift in F three, and that's gonna be used to spray multiple objects under the canvas. Say, for example, you created a party hat is an object. You could spray multiple party hats on the canvas. Next is the race. A tool hasn't imagine this is used to a raise work or raising paths on the keyboard. Shortcut. A shift and a next is the fill tool, and this is used to fill objects with a certain color cable chocolate. A shift F seven. Next, we have the Grady in tool. This is used to create Grady INTs on object, say, for a gray to black blending nicely. This would be used for that purpose on the keyboard shortcut for the great in Tulloch's control and F one. Next is the eyedropper tool, and this is used to pick off select colors. Too much keyboard shortcut is F seven. Finally, we have the connect the tool. This is used to create diagrams and floor charts, not something I use it all. But that's then on the less if you have a use for it. So that covers the overview of the toolbox on. We're gonna explore each tool in further detail 4. Vector VS Raster: One major benefit of escape is that we can use it to produce vector graphics vector graphics of great a benefit over raster, or pixel based graphics instead of pixels. Vector graphics are mathematically calculated by the computer, which rear enders the lines and curves to any chores and size, whereas the roster or pixel image can only be in large using the information that's already they. In layman's terms, the raster image is made of pixels, and those pixels can only be enlarged. The end result is a blocky image. In this example, the graphic to the left is a vector image. On the one on the right is a raster image. Here you'll see as a Zuman. The vector image retains its full clarity. The lines and curved or is pronounced is the original state, whereas the pixel image begins to blow. Because of this trait of vector images, we have the capability to print images of literally any size suitable for shop fronts, three day silage poor sinners and vehicle graphics to name but a few Learning vector graphics is the way forward in graphic design, and it's the ultimate requirement for those interested in local design and branding 5. 3D Tool: exploring the three day, too the keyboard shortcut for the three day tool. A shift and F four. So we're going right had and doing this on the canvas, you'll see that it draws a three D rectangle. We can use the points that either side perspective ponts to adjust the shape as you'll see . And we can use the ones at the top to adjust that shape on the horizontal and the vertical . So this is used to create three D blocks, you say. If we double click for the preferences, we also have the same style options as we do for a rectangle. We can use the last style use, or we can set a default style. You'll see that it set currently at the default style, which is a kind of lilac color. So that's the three day to You may have a use for it. You may not. That represents the jest of it. Nonetheless 6. Caligraphy Tool: Next we have the calligraphy tool, which can be found here in the toolbox. Or we can use a keyboard, shortcut control and F six as Din ordered. It draws Kala graphic or births strokes. Andi, I want to show you how this is done by selecting calligraphy to ongoing the converse and drawing out a wiggly line here at the top and the tool control options. We have a range of options, including whipped, fending and angle to focus on the 1st 3 Now, if we increase the width, this increases the width of the pen as it sees in the pop up there, so demonstrate this will take it up. With 70 on, we'll draw up to see him weekly lying again, and you'll see it has this effect. It's actually a lot more thicker now. I want to delete these, and I'm gonna show you the other options. Selecting the calligraphy tool again. You see, we also have an option called thinning, as mentioned, and this, as of the pop up states, is how much it's gonna thin as you go faster with the mouse so a lawyer can't see the speed on drawing at. Apart from what's on screen. I'm going to increase this. The 80 Andi. See if you can north difference now. It's not something you can really spot, so hence the thinning option isn't something I use often. It is important for those who use a graphics tablet, but I is a log or designer 10 years and mouse more often than a graphics tablet. So four wasn't on the other options for the calligraphy tool. Selecting that once again, we also have angle. This is the angle of the pen's nib. Now I want to draw out another line with its set on 30 for the angle. Now will enter 90 for the angle, and I'm gonna draw out that line again. I will say the angles changed to 90 degrees. The pattern neighbors basically a vertical line. Another option is fixation. This is something that tends not have such an effect. So on the old time, what do you use the calligraphy to? Its very rarely, if ever. I'm going to use this fixation option. Next is caps on the Pole of Dictates that it's increased to make caps at the end of strokes . Now caps are rounded, nous or go on to show you this. I'm going to draw a line without cap set. I want to take the caps up to 10 or rather five, because that's the limit by the looks of it, and you see it gives it a rounded end to the line. Now we also have trama wiggle and mass trauma gives strokes. A rugged feeling will go ahead on and increase this and you'll see the effect that has now , this is just messy in my eye. So not something I use it all. Let's try the wiggle. This is to make the panel waiver, as the pop up tells us so you can see this has a similar factors. Trauma. Taking that back down will finally go on to muss Andi, This stipulates increased to make the pen drag behind as if slowed by inertia. Now I've got no use for this and know right off the bat. But let's take it up and see what effect this now has. I'm dragon fast with the mouse. The cursor is actually in front of the line, so that's the effect that must has now. Once again, I have stated numerous times a calligraphy tool isn't what I use as a log or designer, but for general graphic design work, that tool is there, and you may find a use for it. 7. Elipse Tool: can out elaborate upon the ellipse to cable chocolate for the lips, stools at five with us to weaken, create circles, ellipses and arcs or selecting. At first I want to draw on the lips, playing out like so some may call it an oval. Next, I'm gonna draw circle holding control. I'm able to keep the constraint on Draw a perfect circle like so now to drawn Arc going to do the following. I want to grab this point that the right on site I want to click and when a dry ground like So now I have the Ark. We can also take the ship Onda. We can select that same point to make a kind of pat month ship, so that covers the Ellipse tool. If we double click, we have the same options last you style in this tools on style, if you wish that defines and default colors rather than just using the previous something worthy a mansion as an option in the tool control bar. If you find yourself having made a shape like this and you wish to return it back to its full ship, there's an option appear in the tool control make the shape hall ellipse, so clicking upon this returns the shape back to a full circle. Likewise, I can do the same with a shape down here with the Ellipse tool selected and click make the shape the whole ellipse again on It doesn't seem that returns a shape back to a full circle , so that sums up the Ellipse tool. Chances are you'll be using it quite often. Sort of Familiarize yourself, for that is advantageous. 8. Eraser : So now on the your razor, the Raisa has the keyboard shortcut shift and a and it's used to delete elements on the our port. Now, demonstrate this. I'm gonna place down three circles like so I don't wanna go ahead and select the your razor you see appear for the mortar. We have delete objects touched by the razor. Andi cut out from objects. If I select first, which is delete objects touched by the razor, you safer click with a mouse button. I draw a red line. Now this is the your A's line. If I click and have this line touch all these three shapes, it deletes all three shapes. If it just touches one shape deletes that shape, even if it just touches the very a few pixels of that shape. It will indeed delete that shape. So that's how the first moored works for the Raisa. Next is cut out from objects and you'll see this works like a traditional razor and that it raises where the actual or raise their cause through so that suggested the your razor. We can also increase the size of that line before you wish to make it thicker. like so, and it raises a great area. Theories is actually more suited to a pending style. So isn't something I use often in law Gore design. But there it is nonetheless, if you will, she use it for your artwork. Admittedly, the razor tool does appear at the glitch on a mock system. As you can say here, when I you raise, it gives a rough effect rather than a smooth the fact. So if you're running an escape on a Mac and your witness in the same problems, rest assured and professional log or design the You're a Zephyr Morse part is completely unnecessary, so that covers the eraser tool. How even use both boards to achieve different effects? 9. Eyedropper: next is the eyedropper tool, which is located down here in the tool box, which can also be selected with the keyboard shortcut F seven to demonstrate the eyedropper tool. I'm gonna draw out of shape on the converse here, and I'm gonna type some text now if I wanted to match this text with the same color is the star id Select with text Select Lee I dropped to and I click star and it much that text vice versa. If I wanted this star to match the color of the text, I'd use the eyedropper tool in the opposite manner and click the black text and then star would turn black itself. So as you go through the process of log or design, you will want to match colors up. So the eyedropper tool is it to let you be using quite often 10. Fill Tool: next we have the fill tool and the demonstrate this I'm going to use the pan in 22 draw out a shape on the converse. So, as you say, we only have the outlines visible here, and there's currently no fell to the shape, so to assign fell to the shape. I'm gonna select the fill two on the cable chocolate for the fill tool is shift and F seven . So selecting the fill tool from the toolbox, I can now move into the ship. Click inside it to assign a fill. Now, when we use the pen to or any of the shape tools when we draw something out on the Converse , we can assign a Phil just by clicking a color at the bottom here. But I'll show you the difference between using the fill tool Onda method of just shown you see when I've just clicked the color it treated as a whole object, whereas the color which have filled into the ship is treated as a separate, so you'll see I have my fill here under have my stroke. So that's the main difference between the fell to Andi, using standard fell simply by clicking on a color for a clause path, so that represents the fundamentals of the ink skip Phil to 11. Gradient Tool: now the Demonstrate the grading tool. Before I select the grading tool, I'm going to draw a star on the Converse on. We're gonna color this with a Grady int. Just place in this in the center. I was selecting the grading tool, which is located down here in the toolbox keyboard. Shortcut is control and F one. I can now click into the shape and drag across to create the radiant. Now, if a go to this icon, he on the right onside or the top dependent upon your layout. The edit Objects Colors ingredients option, which is shift control and F shocker on the keyboard. Clicking upon that, you'll say, are felon stroke options appear, and from here I can now select colors used in the radiant. So with this Nord selected here, I can now go on to assign pink, for example, with that stretched across, the grading goes from a red to the hot pink. Likewise, I can click upon this Nord appear on, then sign a color for that part of the Grady, and also so now the Grady inflows from the yellow to a pink. Now you'll see the tool control options up above we have two options next to the word new ones. Create Lenny Ingredient, which we have here in this star because the yellow, of course to the pink from left to right. With this option, select that radial Grady int for Click Upon This on the draw out another star on a go back and a sign the great. Didn't you see that it's actually assigning the greedy int from the centre outwards? That's to say that this star is mawr dark in the center, and it feeds outwards. If we go to the other options, you'll see we have select. When we have an array off Grady INTs, these will appear here. As you'll see we have to on the canvas and saw these two Grady INTs appear and this drop down here, we could also assign a stroke a great into a stroke. Rather, that's to say that the outline of the shape is subject to the Grady Int rather than the Phil. So those representing the main options for the gray didn't tool Andi. It's something you may using your log or designs, or you might wish to stick the flat colors, flag colors and logo design is something which you recommend, and it is typical of the current trend. Regardless, that is the ink skip grade in two, and it can use it as you see fit. 12. Measurement Tool: Let's go ahead and explore the measurement to measurement tools donated by a ruler in the toolbox. We're gonna go ahead and select that keyboard. Shortcut is M for the measurement to. So if you want to measure the square, I click in and you'll see a Red Cross. Appears this tells May have successfully click the top lefton Nord that move across holding control. I can keep it on the horizontal and I can move around until across appears for the other north point at the top right hand corner. Now you see have read out now of zero degrees that confirms on the horizontal on. Do we have a measurement of 251.43 pixels? Likewise, I could do this for the vertical Andi. I can also go ahead and measure angles. I will demonstrate. So I've clicked the bottom, going up to the top if a now drag out. You see, I have measurements for angles protruding from the right on side of the square, and I can also go into an obtuse angle in here Now you'll not in the tool command bar. We have the option to stay at the unit. So if you go on pixels, you can select anything from feet two inches. Two millimeters. With this drop down option, we can also increase the fund size. Now what? This is if we take a look here. We have a small readout here which states of degrees and the pixels. We can increase this font size sorta more readable. I've doubled its size here for click again. You'll see now that tax has doubled in size, so it just makes it more legible, so you can read more easily. So the measurement tools got various uses. I don't use it personally. I don't have much use for it and log or design, which is mostly the work that I do as a graphic designer. But you might find a use for it if you dio m is the short cut key on the keyboard. 13. Node Tool: Now let's go on to explore the Nord to. Before I do that, I'm going to draw out a shape with the pen to I'm gonna click onto the converse. I'm gonna draw kite chip like so I want to give it a fail. I couldn't call it down the bottom. Now I'm gonna go ahead and select the Nord Tool. How? I'm gonna click upon it Now you'll see you'll have four lords to the ship, one of the top one at the bottom and two with the sides. Now we can use the Nord cursor. That's the sharp carol that you see to manipulate any one of these nodes. So go ahead and click the one at the top. You can see out and dragging out here, Drag going on the side, one of the bottom. So I've got full control of those nodes and reflectively that shape by using the Nord to. But that doesn't end there. I can also go on to grab a path here. So clicking on the actual line in drag this out and or curve don't do that. With any lying on the shape, I can also go ahead. Click the Nord and use the control handle to further refine the curves of control handle are these things that emanate from the north. So there's one on either side here, so have the ability used to control handles to refine the curve. The one with right refines a curve at the right hand side. The one left refines this curve the left. So with the combination of these functions, selecting and moving Nords using control handles and moving segments, which are the paths, the lines are pulled out. You can make different ships from primitive ships, and you can also manipulate any shapes that you draw with a pan tool or the pencil to. 14. Pen Tool: So now, under the pen tool, the pan tool can be found here in the toolbox. Arning use a keyboard shortcut shift, and F six are stated. The pan tool is used to draw busy curves and straight lines. So let's go on to demonstrate this by selecting the pan to on moving under the converse, a click of the mouse for place and Nord on orders denoted by the little square box and from here, and draw a straight line or curve. Now, if I click again to create another lord, I can pull outwards with the mouse to extend a blue line. Now this blue line is called control handle, and the red line is called a busy curve. A straight line will also be denoted and red, also so pulling out with this and one A drawer curve. And I want to let go of the left mouse button and that finalizes that curve. It can be manipulated later, but for now I'm gonna move on to the next someone, pull out and draw another curve, letting go of the left mouse button. Click down here to draw another curve on the one seal the ship by clicking the first under last Nord. So I'm gonna click that and I'm gonna pull out again like so and I'm gonna left goal of the left mouse button, and this closes this path and creates the shape. Now you'll note that stroke is now applied, which is called black after the shape is closed now, now going to manipulate the shape and change the stroke by double clicking on stroke in the bottom left hand corner of a click stroke style. I can also increase the width of the stroke. So off a click lex, you'll see that the width off the shape and creases. I can also click the fill top and a sign fill by clicking flat color or a greedy an option . So clicking flat color here, you'll see that it's colored black clicking on any one of the colors at the bottom. Here, we'll also a color that color again. Read of the stroke by going with stroke style tab, the stroke paint Tar Brother Onda click nor paint. So this is a shape that's composed of bestir curves. As mentioned, we can use the pen tool, the drawer straight lines also, So I proceeded drawer ship, which consists of both Bethea curves on straight lines. To demonstrate this, you say I can our size the shape, using the selection tool on that moving anywhere. So wish. Let's move appear to make room for the next shape. So selecting the pen tool, I'm gonna click to create a Nord. I want to quit across to create another curve. I'm clicking across here. I want to create another curve clicking this Nord. If I hold control, I can snap less to the vertical and you see I draw a straight line regardless of draw a straight line anywheres until a click and pull out with the mouse. But holding control on the keyboard snaps it to these points as you'll see. So if I want to draw on the horizontal, Ah, hold down control on the keyboard, clicking here on closing the shape appear. Now you'll see withdrawn a ship, which consists of fourth busier curves on a straight line or series of straight lines, either side and at the bottom. We do have a mistake here, but we'll ignore that for now. We can still a sign of Phil to the ship by clicking the colors at the bottom. Onda. We can manipulate that stroke, as we did previously with the shape above. If you wish a drawer path with a pen tool that isn't closed, simply draw your path and press return on the keyboard. So before we finish up, like to redraw the shape here just to make it perfect. Pulling out the Bessie a curve, another click to the right, holding control to keep on the vertical holding control again. Keep it on the horizontal on, closing the shape appear and there we have it, the redrawn version of the shape composed of Betty A curves and straight lines. So that represents the fundamental functions of the pan tool, the pan tool of something you'd be using almost all time as a log or designer. Onda general graphic designer So be sure experiment with it. Eventually you'll come to master it on. It'll become second nature 15. Final Word: well done for reaching the end of the course. I hope the information has proven valuable in extending your skills. As a designer, I post new courses on a regular basis. So if you want to stay up to date, please be sure. Click follow next to my user name by clicking follow. You'll get priority announcements when I launch new courses. When I share. Resource is on when I launch contests. Remember, there are additional parts of this course, so we'll see you in the next.
