1. Intro: Hey guys, my name is planktic, but gala and I welcome you all to discard your tutorial for beginners course. I've been an online instructor for a number of years now. And in this course we'll take a look at discord. In this course, we will not only learn how to use Discord as an end-user, but you will also learn how you can create your own discord server. We'll take a look at how you can create text channels, waste channels. We'll also take a look at the different roles and permissions that it can use. Also take a look at how you can go live in Discord. Also take a look at how you can use Discord bot with your server. And let's talk about who this course is for. This course is for anyone who wants to learn how to use this quarter beat as an end-user. So if you want to join our discord server and you don't know how to use this course. This course is for you, and this course is also for you if you want to create your own discord server. Thing to note here is that you don't need to be a gamer to use discord. Discord is a communication app is though you can take this course and use this code even if you are not a gamer. But yes, predominantly discord is used by the gaming industry and gamers. Now let's talk about what you should know to take this course. Now, basic knowledge of using a computer is enough for you to take this course. The teaching environment for this course is Windows 10. So I'll be using Windows 10. But if you have a Mac, you can follow along as discord is platform agnostic. With that said, I hope you guys are ready to learn all about discord and I'll see you guys inside the course. 2. 02 intro : In this video, let me go ahead and give you a brief introduction of what base64 days. If you take a look at this court on Google, you can see that it says that it is a pretty voice and text chat for gamers. Let me tell you this right off the bat that this court has grown beyond that. It's not just for gamers and it's not just a voice and a text chat apps. Let me go to the discord website and you can see that it's sort of directly competing with Skype as well as team speak. But with this court, what you can do is you can create a community with roles such as moderators, members, and admins. And you can create a community where everyone from anywhere in the world can join and you can chat directly with them. You can share images, videos, and not only that, you can have Weiss chat with them as well. In the course, we will not only talk about how to use Discord, but we'll go ahead and talk about how to set up this quarter as well. And later in the course, we will go ahead and take a look at the Discord server of a gamer, as well as the Discord server of a lawyer. So as I said, that Discord has grown beyond the gaming industry. Not only gamers, but lawyers are using these court as well. So make sure that you don't have this preconceived notion that the score is for gamers only. It is used by each and every profession that is out there. So with that said, let's go ahead and installed the score in our next video. 3. 03 creating an account : Welcome back guys to the courts. In this video, we'll take a look at creating in accounting this course. So head over to these four type.com and we'll click on Login. Let's click on Register. I'll go ahead and paste in my email address. I'll select a user name. So for me I'll select this my name. Then let's go ahead and type in a password and click on Continue Play Card. I'm not a robot. Select the images to bridge the contrary Pi. And just like that, our account has been. And now I'm going to skip this step and you can see that our account has been created. So let me just close this and we have to again, go to our email and verify our e-mail address. So I will go ahead and quickly do that. So now that I have a very in fact, my account at the bar that goes displaying here goes away, and this is the dashboard of her discord. Now before you go ahead, I want to point out that you can use discord in three ways, using the web browser as I'm doing right here, using and next top app. And using the mobile app now the interface for the website and the app is exactly the same. Actually, let me just go ahead and show you the desktop app versus the web browser. So there's a web browser and I have logged into my desktop app using the same account. So if I pull it up, you can see that this is the desktop app. Now it's exactly the same as I already mentioned. So I'll be using both of them in this course. So I'll be switching back and forth between the web browser as well as the desktop app because I'll be using do accounts to demonstrate the executable be doing in this course, but it's exactly the same. And if you are planning to use discord, which you are taken this course, I highly recommend that you use the desktop app over the web browser, because the desktop app is more convenient as it will have inbuilt notifications as well as a feature to go live, which is not available in the web browser wars. So I highly recommend that you use the desktop app. 4. 04 ui : Hey guys and welcome back to the course. In this video, we'll be taking a look at the user interface of discord. As I already mentioned in our previous video, that the user interface of the discord app, as well as the web browser version or the website is exactly the same. So in this case I'll be using the app here. So to better understand Discord UI, let's go ahead and join us server, so we have something to work with. So I'll open up my web browser. And as you can see, this is the YouTube channel of Dynamo gaming. It is a gay Merce channel. But if we go to one of the videos of this channel, let me just quickly pause this. You can see if we scroll down, this person has this discord link right here. So let me just copy the link. The copied. We go to our discord, click on Add server, click on Join us server, then paste the link right here, then click on Join. And just like that, we have joined the dynamo gaming server. Now, I'll take to note here is that we got this message, direct message, which appears like this by me six. Let's open it. And it says that you have joined the dynamo gaming server and it welcomes us light. So now let me go to the server again. So here in this array you can see that we cannot access the channels here. So if we click on Verify here and in this channel it says that react to give yourself a role. And you can see that you do not have permission to send messages in this channel is written right over here. So this is something that we can set in the settings that anyone who is added to our server or our discord server, that is, how will not be automatically able to send messages. We will see that in later videos in our courts that the user must have these cold email or must have verified cellphone in order to join our discord server. So for this particular server, let's just click here to verify and give ourselves a role. So as soon as we do that, you can see that we now have access to all the channels that are available here. So as you can see on the left-hand side, we have a lot of channels that are available here, and this particular server has a lot of channels here. So these are called channels, and we'll dive deeper into what channels are and what they do later in the course. But we are taking a look at the user interface in this video. So these are the channels. You can see that we have some direct messages that are available here. So if I click on this, this is the mean six, but it has sent us a message that, hey, hearty, welcome here and you can customize all of this. Again. I Yak, PDB bought is this one. It gave you a role. So we got the verified role because we clicked or we reacted to that verify message previously. So these are. Boards, as you can see that it is a labeled as bots. Now, going back, you can see on the right-hand side we have all the members of the server right here. Some of them are online by the clean indication, you can figure that out. So then our online on their phones, some of them are idle, some of them are in do not disturb mode. And you can scroll down and take a look at the entire list. And there's a huge list. So we won't be doing, we won't be scrolling down any person. So coming down you have uses settings, deafened and mu. We'll talk about what definite and B are. Duke later in the course. Let's take a look at uses settings. So going into the User Settings, we have our accounting information here you can click on edit and change your name, change your email address or password. You can disable it or delete your account. And I highly recommend that you enable two-factor authentication. So if you are using this code, in this case, I won't be enabling because this is for the tutorial purpose, this entire account. I have created it for the purpose of this tutorial, but if you're using this code, I highly recommend that you enable two-factor authentication. Now let's Exit out. Let me go ahead and show you one more thing. If we go to our web browser and we added ourselves to the Discord server or dynamo gaming. Now I want to show you one more thing which is this discord server or the YouTube channel or VM core design. Now this is a YouTube channel of a lawyer and he also uses discord is the reason I wanted to show you this is because I want to highlight the fact that this court has grown beyond the gaming industry. This is the YouTube channel of e and cosine, and E is a lawyer and ease using this chord. So let's go ahead and add ourselves into his channel. So this is discord link. We can click on this discord icon right here. And if I copy the link, let's go to Add server. Let's go to join. Let me paste the link and we'll click on Join. Then as we say that the link is invalid or has expired later in the course when we create our servers, we'll see exactly why this error happens and how you can avoid it. But for now I already know a link for this server and a link that works for this server. So let me just go ahead and paste it here. And now if we join, and then we have joined the server of lawyer e and cosine. Now, we got a message from the die. Nobody's saying that you're welcome and this comes in the welcome channel. So here, clearly you can see the difference between the two servers. The gaming server has a lot of icons here, a lot of graphics. And if we scroll down, you can see that there is a dedicated music section also. And we'll see how to set up all of this later in the course. But if you go to the EM cosines discord server, you can see that he has very few channels here. So let me just click through each and every channel and you can see that not a lot is going on here. It's a very clean and simple discord server. So focusing on the user interface of the score, it's pretty much the same. The channels appear on the left side. The central part is for the messages. The right-hand side you can see the members that are on the channel. And you can see all the different servers that you have joined at the extreme left, right over here. So that's your basic inroad to the user interface of discord. 5. 05 nitro : You're watching the discord tutorial for beginners course in this will be 0. I wanted to talk about this coordinate row. So let me go to my user settings. And you can see that there is this section called billing. Now, why do we need to add a payment method or why is this section even there? So the reason for this is, so discord is a free app and a service for you to use and there is no limit or a paid limit. So why is there a payment method? And this is because of this coordinate rho, as you can see here. So if we click on this, you can see that the brief introduction to this coordinate grow and what it is, basically what this coordinate rho is, is a way to support the discord team. So in exchange for your subordinate, you will get some of the perks that I mentioned here. So you will get custom tags, you will get a higher resolution when you share your screen or go live, you'll get some higher upload limits. Though, if you scroll down, you can see that this is the classic support option or the nitrile classic option in which you won't get the server boost, but you will get all the chatbox, right? So this is the chatbox, so you will get all of these. But you want gave the server bush so you can decide whether you have to support the team that way or not, or if you want these books or you can choose the entire package by selecting these payment options right here? No, All in all, discord is a free service for you to use. There are no different pricing models or uses limits. As per the developers of discord, discord is free to use and will always remain that way. But you can show your support to the developers of this chord by purchasing this coordinate row. And you'll get some of the parks that are mentioned here. 6. 06 sample : Welcome back guys to the course. In this video, we'll go ahead and take a look at what a typical discord server looks like. So in our previous videos, we join two servers, one of which is dynamo gaming, and another one is a lawyer, e and cosine. So let's go ahead and take a look at the dynamo gaming server first. So on the left side you can see that this is a category and it has a few generals under it. Now we can't access this channels, but it is here just to show what the subscribers are, what the views are, and how many videos this person has published. And we can collapse the category by clicking on it. Going down, you can see that this is the welcome category. So this is an architecture of typical discord server where you will have multiple categories. So you will have typical welcome category. You will have a welcome Janet year where everyone will be welcomed. You will also have rules channel here where some of the rules who would be written rules for this servers or general rules such as treat everyone with respect nor has meant no backseat, a modeling, et cetera, et cetera. And everyone will have different rules. So if we go to the other server, which is z and cosine, we see that he also has a welcome General. He also has a rules general and eight is pretty concise. So these are the rules that at this particular channel has. So if you break the rules, one of the moderators or the admins of the server will take action against to you. So I highly recommend that if you join us, first, go ahead and read the rules that are mentioned. And typically every discord server has rules mentioned. Again, going back to the dynamo gaming server, you have a live section made is probably for the live gaming that this person does. Some important announcements section is here. Lobbies year, lobby gallery, and scrolling down you can see entire category for contact. So you can support feedback, complaints, etc. All of these comes through this channel. Going down. You can see there are some channels for this particular clan or this game. Let me just scroll down even more. This entire section is for bots, so it's for bot commands. As you can see. Let me just minimize that. If we scroll further down, you can see that it has music category as well and a music channel. You can play music and we'll see all of this in this course. So we'll see how to set up music channels, how to set a bot that play music. Scrolling down. You can see that there are certain channels, certain voice channels, and that you can differentiate between voice and text channels based on the logo that is mentioned here. So if we have a hashtag, that means that it is a text channel, but if we have a speaker icon, that means that it is a voice channel. So it is the wise channel and it has a limit of like two people can join in here you can see that two people have already joined. This is for squads. So you can have three people in here, you can have four people and all of that. So this is a typical server on discord, a typical gaming server, and this is what you will encounter most of the time and everything will be categorized here by the admin send the bonds. Now let's take a look at the other server that we have, which is the lawyer said one which is Zm core designs. So in this somewhere it is pretty limited and you can see it has a welcome general it has rules, central jet or a general jagged where everyone can join me then Jack. In the YouTube category, it has announcements, videos, I think the person we don't have permission to post, but the admin or the owner has been mission to pause. So they are just posting their YouTube videos here. You also have channel for legal templates. So you can sort of download the templates that are offered by the lawyer and give away that he is doing. So these are the channels that this particular server has. The point of this video was to show you how different Discord servers can be from person to person. In his case, I showed you an extreme example by showing you the Discord server or for gaming channel versus the Discord server off the lawyer. And these are two extremes, but the point that you should take away from this is that each and every discord server is unique and each and every beast courts server will have its own thing. So later in the course when we create our own discord server, I highly recommend that you add your own flair and create your Discord server in your own unique way so that it stands out. 7. 07 lingo : Hey guys and welcome back to the course. In this video, we'll talk about what different terms in Discord mean. So we'll talk about what is a server, what is a channel? And we'll also talk about the permissions and the role and how they play a role in this court. Essentially, we will be understanding discord, that we'll do that, we'll take an analogy of school. So in a school, you have a classroom, teachers room, game room, a lab, or principles room, and so on, right? In this school, the principal will have access to each and every room. The teacher will have access to some of the rooms, but not all of them. And the student has a pretty limited access, right? So taking this analogy and applying it to Discord, as there is this cool and there are different rooms. We have a server in discord and different channels. So there is a general, general there is an admin gentle music channel and now Live Journal and an owner's room, right? So just like as we saw, the different level of access the principal, the teacher, and the student has inside of a school. Similarly, we can implement that model inside of our Discord servers. So we might have different roles. Like one rule is the owner role, the admin role, and the member role, the owner role. We'll have access to everything. The admin role will have comparatively less access and the member role will have even less access to. In this analogy, we compare the Discord server to a school. As there are different schools, they have different type of rooms, different type of facilities, and they are different from one another. Similarly, there are different type of Discord servers. They have different type of set up and they have different type of channels in them. They have different dipole roles such as Margaret, members, visitors, whatever. So basically what I'm trying to say is each and every discord server will be different in its own unique way. But understanding the basics of discord with this analogy that we just did in this video. We'll give you a firm grasp of the workings of the score. 8. 08 creating a server : Welcome back guys to the course. In this video, we'll go ahead and create our first discord server. Now before we go ahead, I want to mention that I have created another account and logged into it. So on the left, I have my Discord app, which is running my account, which is my name brand thick, well Kayla, and this is the account that we have used so far in the course. So we have joined the two servers with this account. On the right, we have another account that have created, which is the demo account, and it has just a course test server. It was just a test server that I created before recording this course. And you can clearly see the difference between the two because on the left I'm using the Discord app. And on the right I have the account logged in using the web browser. So from here on in the course, this is the way that it will be. So whenever you see me using the web browser, assume that I am using the demo account or the secondary account. And when I am using the Discord app, I'll be using the primary account. So now let's go ahead and create our host discord server. So we'll do that in our primary account. So we'll go to the plus symbol here. Click on Add server. Then instead of joined, we'll click Create a server. So here we'll give our server a name. So let me just give it a name of funny bunch. We can change the region of our server by clicking on change and selecting any of these regions. For me, it's India, so I'll keep it India. And we can change the icon as well so we can click on it and select the icon image. I'm not going to do that in this video. Let's click on Create. So our server has been created and this is the link to our server. So let me just close this link and we'll get back to it. As you can see that it says that you can invite people by clicking on date. If we click on, that, window pops up again. So let me just click Close, Close this messages. Well, our server has been created and we have entered our server. As you can see, that there's a server and it is between these two servers. So if we want to push it up, we can just drag it on top. Now we have automatically joined the voice channel here. And you can see that by the speaker icon at the top. So in order to exit from this voice channel, we can just click on disconnect at the bottom and it will exit as so as you can see inside of the general journal, we got a message from the client bought. Now we haven't added any bought. This is the default message that shows up by the client bot, which is run by discord. So to invite people on tours server, what we can do is we can click on the down arrow right here and click on in white people. And this will give us that link again. Now, as you can see here, it says that your link expires in one day. So what will happen is if you paste this link in your profile or give it to someone. And they use this link after one day, then they will get that error. That link has expired. And we saw that error when we were joining the Discord server of the lawyer E and Goldstein, right? So what we can do is we can click on this checkbox. It will set the link to never expire, or you can click on Link settings and you can customize the link as well. So it will expire after six hours, 12 hours, one day. Maximum number of uses. So how many people can use the link so it can be clicked, be 10 times, 20 times whatever the number. Let me just close this. We let me just copy the link. So click on Copy. Let me exit out of this. So what I'll do is I'll invite the other account that I created to join this server. The few different ways you can do that, one of the way is that you can just go to the other account and just click on Add server, click on join server and paste the link layer. Another way we can do is we can add this account as a friend of this account. So what we'll do is we'll click on Home, click on France. And here we will need to add the tag of a friend or a DD score DAG a friend. So to find the discord tag, we'll go to our second account. Click on User Settings, and this is the core tags. Let me just copy this. I'll paste the tag here, click on Send friend request. And just like that, a friend request has arrived here. So let me click on it. Let me accept the friend request. Now what I can do is I can message this account, the second account as a friend and send the link to my server. So what I'll do is I'll click on online. As you can see that this person is online. I can go to the direct message option and I'll paste the link here and send it. So a message has arrived in this account. If I click on it, so you can see that a message has arrived and it automatically picks up the link and it displays the link inside of this interactive box. And you can just join the server by clicking on joint here. So if I click on it, just like that, I have joined the funny bunch server that we created. So that's how you create a server and I invite people to join it. Coming back to our main account, you can see that all the users that have joined the server and not online that I mentioned here. This person is the server or not, so a crown appears here. You also can see that the message that demo has joined is also mentioned in the general chat as well. So in this video, we saw how to create a server. We also saw how you can add friends to your Discord. We also saw how to use invite links as well. One important thing, as I mentioned, is to pay attention to the exploration of the link. If the link is set to expire, it will expire and your users won't be able to join your server. So make sure you use the link settings according to your needs. Most of the time, you should set your link to never expire. 9. 09 roles in discord: You're watching the discord tutorial for beginners course. In this video, we'll talk about roles and permissions. So let's go ahead and create a few roles. So what we'll, what we'll do is we'll go to the server settings and our server, and we'll go to roles. So you can see that this server already has a role by default and you cannot remove this role, which is at everyone. You can change the permissions of this roll by doubling the permissions here. And we'll take a look at that in just a moment. But let me just go ahead and add a few roles. So the first one that I'll add is all none. And let me click on save changes. Let me add another role, which is admin. Click on save changes again. And another role is Moderator. Click on search engines again. And one last role, which is member. Click on save changes. Now, you can change the order of the role by just clicking and dragging and dropping the sequence here. And we'll take a look at that and why it is important to have this hierarchy. In a minute, let me just click on save changes before we go ahead and let's take a look at assigning roles. So we have created these roles, right? Let me go back. And what we can do is right-click on a person and you can go to Roles and you can assign them different roles, right? So this demo person, now I am the owner. So if I click on myself, you can see that I don't have any rules for Dagens do is I can give myself roles as well. So I can give myself the owner role. And the other person, which is the demo account. I will give that person the member rule. So that person has the member role. If I click on it, you can see that it has the member role and this account has the owner role. So now let's talk about the permissions. If we go to server settings again, go to Roles. And let's start off with the owner role. So what we want to do is we want to have this role members separately from online members. And we want to allow this role to mention anyone using the ampersand symbol, right? We want this to, this role, the owner role to have this. We also want the owner to have admin permissions. We also want the owner to have access to the audit log to manage the server. And basically we want to grant everything to the owner because we are the owners, so we want to be able to do everything inside of our server. So let's click on everything and click on save changes. If I go up, you can see that this is the first one which is display. Roles separately from online members. Let me show you what it does. Close. If you go back, you can see that now Owner appears in its own category here. So apart from the online members, you can see that the owner appear separately and you can do that for each and every role. So let's go ahead and do that. I'll go to Roles. I'll go to admin now. And what do we want our admin is to create separately. We want our admins to have the ability to mention anyone. So this is the administrator permission and it is a dangerous permission to grant with. This is because people with this permission can delete channels as well. So you want to give out this permission cautiously. So what we'll do is we'll run this permission to the role. But we'll give this roll out cautiously to the people we trust, right? We also want the admins to sort of view log, manage the server, manage roles so they can assign other people's roles as well. We want them to manage channels so they can delete or edit the channels and create new ones as well. We want them to keep members, we want them to band members. We want them to sort of manage nicknames, emojis, basically, all of the permissions that the owner has will sort of give it to. The Admin says, well, now that I've given at the same permission as the owner, what I'll do is I'll scroll up and I'm having second thoughts, right? I don't want to give my admins the administrator permission, so I'll remove it. And I'll also remove the permission to manage animals. So I don't want my admins or the people who have the admin role to manage channels as well. Or that is the permission to create new channels and edit and delete the channels. So I'll remove these two permissions. Click on save changes and this leg that our new permissions have been saved. Now let's move over to the moderator role. Now the moderator role. Again, I want this role to be displayed separately. I want the mods to mention anyone. We don't want the admin permission. We want our model to have access to the audit log and we'll take a look at what are the log is later in the course. Then we don't want our modes to manage the server. We don't want our model to change the name of the server and the region. So we don't want that. We don't want them to manage roles as well. We will keep this permission to the owner and the admin. We don't want them to manage the channel. We want them to keep members and we want them to band members as they are moderators, we want them to manage the nicknames. So someone has a nickname that which is against the rules of your servers. Someone has a lewd or an abusive nickname. That nickname can be changed by the moderator. We want them to manage emojis, we want them to manage their books. I don't really use web books. I don't really know anyone in this court who uses where books, but we want them to give this permission anyway. We want them to read text channels and C voice channels, send messages, sent text-to-speech. Now we don't want to give this permission to anyone, so as the admin and the ordinance, so we'll remove that. So we do want our moderators to delete messages of other members. So we'll give this permission to our modes. Scrolling down everything seems to be in order. Otherwise permissions we will keep our modes, the permission to mute members to different members, to move members as well. And we don't want to give them priority speaking, what this does is when inside of voice channel, when there are people talking, if this priority speaker is activated, that person's volume will be automatically pushed up. So we want this permission to be with the owner and the enemy or not the moderator or the member or anyone else. We don't want our model to go live, so we will remove that permission. We'll click on Save Changes. Let's go up. Let's click on member. Now, we want our members to appear separately. We don't want our members to mention anyone using at this role. So we don't want our members to just keep on messaging anyone so we will not turn this on. Scrolling down everything seems okay. You want them to change their own nickname? We want them to create an invite. Scrolling down, we can read text messages in voice channels. They can see them. You can send messages. We don't want them to send text to speech. Moving down, we don't want our members to a data files. They can read the messages tree. We don't want our members to mention everyone. So using at everyone or at here, they will be able to mention everyone. So we don't want them to do that. Scrolling down. We want them to connect to voice channels. We want them to speak, but we don't want them to mute or definite members. And this is pretty much here to the end. This is the permissions that I want. So I'll click on Save Changes. And let's click on everyone toward this, everyone means is anyone who has not been given any role, they automatically get this role. So when a person joins your server, they will be under this category because they won't be given any of the roles. So what do we want them to do is we don't want them to have any permission. So we will remove everybody. So in the everyone roll, we don't have the permission to message the text channels and y's channels, and we don't have any permission. So let's go ahead and take a look at this in action. Now, coming back to our server, as you can see, we have our second account which is here, and it has the member role. So what we'll do is we will remove the member roles. So before we do that, let me go in and login to that account. So here I am in the browser, and here as you can see, I am able to message in the general channel. So I can say, Hey, how are you? And that message will go through, because members are allowed to send messages right here, right-click here, go to Roles and the select this or removed the member role. And it will automatically get the roll-off at everyone. And as we already said, that at every one won't be able to send messages. So now, and also they won't be able to see text and voice channels here. So I cannot send anything here. As you can see, this is the second account. I cannot see anything. So what I can do is I can go to my server settings, will do roles at everyone. I can allow this permission so I can allow them to read text panels and see why cells click on save changes and this like that, that permission has been applied so I cannot access any voice channel because we have disabled the voice permissions, so we don't have the permission to connect all speak, nor do we have the permission to send any text messages because that permission has also not been given. But we do have the permission to read texts channels and C voice channels. So these are the permissions that are applied. Now, let me just go back to my app. Close this. In this video, we saw how to create different roles and give them different permissions. 10. 10 Create text channels in discord: Hey guys and welcome back to the course. In this video, we'll take a look at how we can create our own text channels, and we'll also talk about the channel specific permissions as well. So here I am in my home tab. And what I'll do is I'll go back to my server, which is the funny one server that we created. And I can create a text channel by hitting the plus icon here. Or I can go down in the drop-down menu and select Create Channel. Now in this video we'll be creating a text channel, so it is selected here. You can also select our voice channels. So if you want to create a voice tenor, but we'll be doing with the text channel, going with the theme of our server, which is the funny bunch server. We will create a channel for people to share jokes, right? So we'll say one liners. And I think to note here is that space is not allowed. So if I put a space here, it automatically hyphens it. And so far as I remember, you cannot capitalize the first letter. So if I select it and capitalize it, you cannot capitalize it. But what you can do is you can insert images here. We'll take a look at that in a minute. What do we can also do here is we can make this channel private. So if I click on this and I select any one of the roles which we created in our previous videos. Only that role will have access to this channel. So I don't wanna do that. So I will uncheck private channel and we'll say Create Channel. And dislike that our channel has been created, but it has not been added to any category. So these are the categories text channel and what external other categories, but it has not been added to any category. We'll take a look at categories in their own separate videos later in the course. For now, what we want to do is we want to add some emojis. So if we go to dynamo gaming server, which we are looking at, you can see that there are a bit of emojis that this server has. So to add a flair to your server, you can add emojis to your channel. So to Jane's the name, again, what we can do is go to Edit Channel and we can change our general name here. So to add an emoji, what you can do is just copy and paste the image from the web. I am using a Windows PC so I can use an emoji keyboard that Windows 10 has. So I'll press Windows and the full stop button and I'll get an emojis panel here. So what I can do is I can just pick any emoji just like so. And that is our emoji. And we will click save changes. So while we are here in the overview section in our text channel, let's talk about some of the settings here to pause to one is the slow mo mode. So inside of here, as you increase the time, the members will be restricted to sending one message per the time interval. So if you select it for 15 minutes. Everyone inside of this channel can send one message per 15 minutes. You can also set the channel to have age restriction over here by checking this button. And now going to the permissions tab, you can see that we are presented with a somewhat similar permissions panel that we had when we created our roles. But important thing to note here is that all the roles that we had and all the permissions that we give to those roles will be overturned by channels specific permissions. So let's take an example here, right? If we take a look at our permissions. So if we go to our server settings and if we go to Roles, and you can see that the members are allowed to send messages and do everything right? If we select everyone, you can see that everyone is not allowed to send messages. So they cannot send messages, they cannot connect to a voice channel and all that. So we can override this in our channel specific permissions. So to do that, what you can do is go to the channel, click on Edit Channel, little permissions. Here. You can add the roles here I am in the Everyone's section, right, everyone roll. So now let's give the read messages permission as well as the send messages permission for everyone in this channel. So let's click on save changes. So what essentially we are doing is that we are overriding the role specific permissions for everyone in this specific channel, right? So let's exit. And this is the second account that I created. I if I go to Roles, it hasn't been assigned any role. So by default it will get the at everyone rule. So let's go ahead to that account. I will go to my server, and instead of this channel, I now have the permission to send messages so I can send messages year right? Now. Let's go ahead and change this. Now what we can do is we'll go to our Channel Settings, go to Permissions and keep this in neutral position as it was right. Click on save changes. Now if we go to the same account, you can see that I no longer have permission to. I send messages to this channel. And also one more thing to remember that I can no longer read messages here as well. So if there are new messages, I won't be able to read them. Now let us go back to our channel settings. And here, going back to the permissions tab, you can see that these are the list of all the permissions that are available here. Now let's add a rule. And to do that, we'll click on the plus icon here and we will select a role. And that the admin role comes here. You can also select individual members. So what we can do is click on the plus icon and you can see that all the members will be listed here. So you can drill down to each and every member and give them channels specific permissions here, going down to the inlet section, you can see that you can create an invite link and anyone who uses that invite link will be added to this channel. And there's the same kind of format as we saw while creating our server. You can use the general level inwards to invite people to join directly to this channel. But most of the time you will be using server level invite links which we solve and we created our server. Moving on, we also have web hooks now where books are a way to automate stuff. But most of the time you will be using bots to automate stuff. There are very limited and very few instances where when if a bot doesn't work, you can use a webhook. So webhooks are here if you need them, and you can delete the channel from here if you want to. So that's all about creating texts channels. Let's move on to creating voice channels in our next video. 11. 11 Create voice channels in discord: Welcome back guys to the course. In this video, we'll take a look at creating wise channel. It's similar to creating a text channel. So we'll go to our server drop-down menu, and we'll click on Create Channel. And we'll select voice channel. And we'll name our voice channel as stand-up that. Now, here as you can see, I can have spaces between words. So name the channel, stand up and as well as I can capitalize the first letter of the channel and make this channel as public. So we'll click on Create Channel. And just like that, our channel now has been created. Now, if we go to Edit channel here inside the general overview, you can edit the channel name. You can also change the bit rate, which is the connection speed. You can also limit the number of people that can join this channel. So this is typically useful when you have water for Gary okay. Channel or some kind of a general where a lot of people will join in. So a lot of people won't talk over each other. It's a good idea to sort of limit the number of people that enjoyed a particular channel. But if it's just a general journal where you want users to interact with one another and have opened organization. You may be better off not putting a limit on the user's. Moving out to the permissions section. We have somewhat similar permissions that we saw with the texture. And you can edit them if you like, and customize the channel as per your needs. Similarly, we have the inlet sections where you can create gentle specific invites for your users to join. So let me just exit, exit out of here. Now let's go ahead and check that we can connect to the newly created a voice channel or not. So I can go and connect to this voice channel. And the other account that we had does not have the permission to connect to this channel because it has the everyone enrolled applied to it. So if we go to that account, you can see that I cannot connect to this channel, but we set up the account so that they can view which voice channels are there. So I am able to view this wise channel. If I remove that permission under every one role, a new voice channels, I won't be able to revoice channels. So I am not able to connect to this channel, but who is inside of it? I'm not able to connect through this channel as well. Attempt to note here that the permissions that we give to the rules are being applied here. So we haven't set any channels, specific permissions here. We can do that if we want, just like we saw in the text channels video. Now coming back to the main account here you can see that I am connected to this channel and it is also reflected at the bottom here you can see the general name appears and the server name appears here. Now we fervor to go to different server. You can see that I am still connected to this channel and this server. So I can just click on it and I can come back. If I again go to different servers, you can see our logo appears at the top of the server on which my voice channel is active. So this means that I can visit multiples servers, but still have Weiss channel enabled in a particular server. So this indicates that I can visit different servers, but still be connected to a voiced center on a different server. So let me come back. Do exhibit this voice channel. All you have to do is click on Connect button. And just like that, you have left the waste channel. In this video, I'm going to talk about two options which are milled and difference. So these are the two options that are down here. So if you mute, that means that other people won't be able to hear you. And if you're deaf, and that means that you won't be able to hear other people, right? So if you are in a voice channel, like so, and if I click on the mute button, and if I say something, they won't be able to hear me. As you can see, it is represented like so. And if I click on defin, I won't be able to hear them, as you can see appears here, and it is represented by these icons. So that is the difference between a mute and deaf and instead of voice channels. So before I end this video, I want you guys to remember to disconnect from a voice channel as soon as you're done using it, people often forget to disconnect from a waste channels. So make sure you disconnect from a voice channel and don't accidentally send audio or be connected to a voice channel that you don't intend to be in. 12. 12 categories in discord: Hey guys and welcome back to the course. In this video, we'll take a look at categories. So what are categories? Getting arrays are a way to categorize your channels. Now category's also have a set of their own permissions. We'll also take a look at that in this video. So let's go to the dynamo gaming server, which we are looking at as an example. And you can see that it has a lot of categories. You can collapse and expand categories by clicking on this arrow. Now going back to our server, we have two categories by default, which is the text channels category and the waste channels category. So let me go to the server drop-down menu and click on Create category. Here, let me create a category named funny corner. And again, you can make this category private and allow only certain members to access it. Let's just keep it public and click on Create category. And just like that, our category has now been created. So let me click on Create channel here, and I'll create channel, texts channel here. Let me name ID sample channel, and click on green channel, and that channel has been created. Now what we'll do is we'll right-click here and go to Edit category. And you can see that you can change the name of the category. And here we also have our permissions tab. Now what this means is this is the overall permissions for all the channels in this category. So let me show you what I mean. If we go to the sample channel and if we the channel and look at its permissions, and you can see that the permissions are sync with the funny corner category. And here are the permissions for everyone. As you can see that everything is in neutral state. So what I'll do is I'll exit out of here. I'll go to my category. Click on Edit category. And here I'll set the permission of same message to false, right? So deny sending message for every one year. Then we click on Save Changes. Let's also do wanting. What we'll do is we'll add a rule here to this category as well. So we'll roll and roll of owner. And we will allow order to send messages and allow them to read messages and click on save changes. So I'm this basically making some changes in the category. Now let's exit out of here. If we go to the channel, click on Edit Channel. Take a look at the permissions and you can see that automatically those permissions where trickled down to this. So the owner, as you can see, has automatically appeared here. Because the channel is in sync with the category. You can override categories specific permissions in the channel. So if I sort of go to the owner's role and click on the permissions like so. Click on save changes and you can see that now it's not anything it says to sink. Now, if I click on this, it'll go ahead and sync the permission with the category permission. So seeing this channel permission to the category permission, right? So this works in a disruptive way as well. So let me show you what I mean If I add a few rules here. And if I make changes to those roles and save changes. Now, if I click on sync now and glick the same permissions once more, you can see that the moderator role was removed. So let me just close this now. The categories are a great way to categorize your channels. In this corner, you can not only set channels, specific permissions and roles, specific permissions. You can also set category specific permissions as well. Make sure that you pay attention to category specific permissions and customize the channel specific permissions according to your needs. 13. 13 mentions in discord: Hey guys and welcome back to the course. In this video, I want to talk about mentions. So what dimensions are that even directly tag other users in a message? So let's go to the general channel here. And I am using the Discord app and I am logged in using the first account. The second account is will be in my web browser. So if I wanted to sort of tag and mentioned that account. So what I can do is I can say just type in a message just like so. And type in red. And you can see that a few mentions pop up and they are defined right here. So I can tag a role or mentioned or role. So everyone in this room will be notified of my message. If I do at everyone, which means that everyone in the channel will be notified about my message. If I do add here, which means that people who are online and here in the Discord server at this moment will be notified. And I can also do just the particular user. So I'll do the particular user in this kids are, so let me just click on this and let me click Enter. And that message just appears here. So let me log into the second account and let me show you how that appears. So you can see that as these account was mentioned, badge appears here with the count of the unread messages. So let me just again send a few messages here. And you can see that even though I've sent another message, the message count remains the same. So this badge only appears when somebody has directly mentioned to you, this Bede's account will also increase if I do add everyone. So if I click on everyone and say welcome and press Enter, you can see that that beds counting now as the user is being shown online. So add here will also work. So I'll do add here, which is the online users. So the click Enter and you can see that that beds counting is. So if I click on this and as you can see, I cannot view messages that were mentioned to me. This is because of the permissions that we said. This particular sound does not have permission to view any messages that were sent to this channel, even though those messages were directly mentioning them or directly targeting them, right? There's a good idea to have a channel where you can sort of send messages to everyone and everyone has the permission to read messages in that channel. That way, it becomes easier for the server owner to communicate to everyone in the server. 14. 14 ban/unban user in discord: You're watching the discord tutorial for beginners course. In this video, we'll go ahead and take a look at kicking and banning the user. So let's say that this user is posting something that is not along the lines with the rules of our server and we don't like it, right? So what we'll do is we will right-click on it. We can either kick the user or we can ban the user. Now what kicking will do is it will just exit the user out of the server and we'll kick them. But they can forge your, rejoin your server if they have a valid link. What banning will do is that will prevent that account from joining your server again. So what they'll do is we will go ahead and bandits. So as soon as I click on ban, window pops up and it asks me, what do you want to do along with the band so we can either don't do anything. Well, we can delete 24 hours worth of history of this particular user, or we can delete all the posts of this user for seven days. Also, we can add a reason for the band. Now it's a very important thing to add a reason. So let me just go ahead and the reason so I'll add the user was using too many images. Let's click on band. And just like that, that user has been banned in the US, disappears from the right users panel. So if we take a look, you can see that we are no longer inside of our server. Essentially, we have been given from the server as well as we have been banned from the server. So if we tried to join the server, again, it will say that you don't have permission to join. The link is invalid. Please contact the server or not or something like that. So now what we'll do is we'll take a look at the unbending process. So let's say that someone or one of your admins or your mods. And the thing that at the band was too harsh and unjustified and you want to unbound this user. So what you'll do is you will right-click on the server, go to server settings, go to bands, and you can see the band accounts appear here, so you can click on the account. And this reason shows up here. So that's why it's important to add a reason here. You can just click on Done or click on Reebok bands. So in this case, I will click on very woke bang. And that user disappears from here. Let me exit out of here. Now if we go to the second account, you can see that we haven't joined the server automatically. So you want be able to join the server automatically. You will have to rejoin it using a link. So we'll go to our direct messages where we send the link and we'll click on Join. And dislike that the user appears here and has now joined the server again. So in this video we saw how to kick and ban an account from your Discord server. Just make sure that you add a reason when new band someone from the server, this makes it a bit easier for you to later some point in time, considering revoking that band. 15. 15 Go live/ screen share in discord: Welcome back guys to the course. In this video, we'll take a look at how you can go live in this court. So what I mean by going live is you can screencast or live stream your game to a group of 10 people in a voice channel. So for that, you force me to have the permission to go live. So if we go to our server settings and go to Roles and go to owner, you can see as I'm the owner, I have the permission to go live. Along with the Go-live permission turned on. You also need the Connect permission as well. So you're going to turn it off and this one stays on and you can go live, you cannot do that on. Both of them have to be turned on and then you can go live. Also, make sure that inside of the channel, the voice channel you wish to go live in, that has the permission as well. So this has the permission here, as you can see, if I turn it to neutral, which means that the permission that we set on the roles will be applied here. So there are no channel specific permissions here, right? So let me exit. And the way we go live is we go to our user settings, we go to game activity. And this code automatically detects the games. If it doesn't, you can go to add it here and add the VM that you have opened up. Now as you can see, not only games you can live stream any window here. So let me click on the Google Chrome tab here. Click on Add again. So it adds Google Chrome as a game. And now I can live stream what I do in Google Chrome in this channel. Let me exit. And now what I'll do is I'll join the general chat voice channel, General voice channel. And here another option opens up. I can click on Go Live. It asks me what I'm streaming. So I'm streaming the Google Chrome window and I am streaming in this channel. I can click on Go Live. So just like that, you see a little preview of my Google Chrome window. Now if I were to focus away from discord and click on Google Chrome, you can see that the stream is paused. So this happens because it's saving resources, but the stream is continuously on. So the people who have joined this voice channel can see that the stream is Lyme, but for you it is paused as you have moved away from this court. Now, coming back to this chord, you can see that it appears that you are live. It symbolizes that you are live with this badge right here. And also on the right, it says that my name is screaming Google Chrome. So if it was a game, it'll appear here. Now to stop streaming, you can just go back to this icon and click on stop streaming and this will disconnect to you and stop the stream. But, but, uh, thing to remember here is that you are still in the y center and the y's connection is still so people will still be able to hear you. So to disconnect from the voice channel, you just click on disconnect and now you are completely disconnected from the voice channel as well. Now an important thing to keep in mind here is that the Go-live feature is only available for the scored apps, that is the desktop apps here, it's not available for the mobile labs as well as the browser version of this chord. So keep that in mind and that's how you go live in discord. 16. 16 what are bots in discord: Welcome back guys to the course. In this video, we'll take a look at what our discord boards and understand the working of discord boards. So let's say that you have a discord server and there are a lot of members inside of your Discord servers and you have assigned them different roles and different permissions. So you have an owner, you have an admin, you have a moderator and so forth, right? Or Discord bot is nothing but a script and some code running on the web. What we do is we invite that bought to join our discord server. The same way we invite other members and other people to join our server. We invite them to join our server. Once the bot joints our server, it'll do its thing and do what it's supposed to do and what is written in the code of the BOD, right? But the important thing to keep in mind is that if the web code or the web script, for some reason stops working online, the bot will go offline as well. So for our bot to be active in our server script and the piece of code needs to be on an active on the web. So that is the basic understanding of working of this court bots. Now let's go ahead and get started with adding these cardboards into our server. 17. 17 How to add bots in discord: You're watching the discord tutorial for beginners course. So in order to add discord bots into our server, we need to enumerate them to our servers. So to find this got bots head over to this website called Discord bots.org and search for the bot you want. So we will add a bot called me six AM WE? And six. This is the bot that we want. So before we go ahead and add this to our server, I just want to show you one thing. Let's go back to our discord app and we go back to the server of V and core Zang. You can see that a bot appears here. It is denoted by these label called bond. Now the name of the bot, you can determine the name of the bot by clicking on it. And this is the original name of the bot. The name that appears here can be changed. So this is the original name. And also here it is mentioned the website of the bot as well as help command that you can use and type in any channel to get help from this bond, right? So this is our boards show up in a server. So let's go back to our server and let's go back to the website, it, and we will click on invite for this MRC spot. And now we're taken to this page. And here, if we scroll down, it shows you what the bot is all about and how you can go about using it. Now let's invert this board to join our servers, so we'll click on inlaid, and this brings us to the website of the bot. And usually all bots have a website. So this website will contain all the details about the bot and all the commands that you use for, for this board inside of your server, right? So usually it's a good idea to go ahead and read all about the bot that you are adding to your server. So for now we'll just go ahead and click on Add to discord. Here. I'll just go ahead and enter my e-mail address and password, and it automatically detects our server. This is the funny bunch server that we created. If you had multiple, it will show up here. So we'll click on our server. And if NZ that we will be adding it to our server and it needs to following permissions. And we will give it the following permissions. So we'll click on Authorize. And you have to prove that you are not a robot to a bot. So we'll click on I'm not a robot. Select the capture images and the notification pops up and the MSIX bot has been added to our discord server. So if you go back, you can see that we have now joined by the MRC spot. So let's go to the dashboard of the MRC spot. So we are now logged in and this bot, particular bot has a dashboard and not all boards have dashboards. So what we can do is we can create a custom welcome messages for new users, right? So what we can do is when a send a message, when a user joins to server. First of all, we'll go ahead and check this and this message that the bot will send to the user and is the channel. So you can select a channel. So you can probably have a welcome gentle where you want to sort of send welcome messages. I'll, for now, I'll just select the general texts channel. Let's save changes. Now what I can do is I can go back to my Discord and let me just put it in this screen. And this is the second account here. So what I'll do is I'll leave the server from my second account and then joined the server again. But this time when I joined, I should get a message from the MSIX bought welcoming me to the server, right. So I joined. And just like that, you can see that the message appears here that hey, welcome to the funny band channel. The message does not show up on my second account because I don't have permission to read messages here. But if you have a dedicated welcome channel, so that message will appear here to everyone. So the message does show up and the bot does work. Now again, going back to the MSIX Bart's dashboard, you can see that this board is a pretty versatile bought. It does a lot of things from sending welcome messages to giving users new role. So if a user joins, you can give that user or new role when the user joins, right? So you can give them a sort of a member role if they join. So you can do all sorts of things in this board. Let me just canceled it. Again. If I go to plugins, you can see that it has custom commands section here it has a levels section. And all of that can be customized, be using this dashboard right here. Make sure you go through the settings that this board has and customize it according to your server needs. 18. 18 Discord server settings: Hey guys and welcome back to the course. In this video, what I've done is I've gone ahead and sort of organized and created a bunch of channels and four categories here, as you can see on the left. So in our previous video, we added the MSIX bought and it didn't have a welcome channel to put welcome messages in. So I went ahead and created mock-up server and created a bunch of channel and as our server is named funny bunch. So I thought that I would go ahead and create a server for people to join and share jokes and stand-ups and tickets for standards and so on and so forth, right? So what we've created is a welcome channel, rules channel. Then inside of the announcements section, we have server updates. So any update to the server will go inside of this channel, our new shows, so our new show about stand-up or something like that will come here. Then details about ticket sales will come here. So I have a duplicate server updates channel here. So let me just go ahead and delete it real quick. Then going down, we have a member's club category and we have a member jet here. Then memberwise chat category. There we have member talks only members can join here and have a text chat here, and members can have a voice chat here. Then we have a funny corner category where people can share sort of one-liners and stand up bits here instead. Or they can sort of joined in and do sort of why stock and stand up here. So instead of the admins only category, we have two channels had been texts and admin Weiss. So this is for admins only, so only admins can join. And I have another category called backroom. And inside of there I have snippets channel. This channel is only for me, the owner. So I, if I have some snippets or some commands that I want, I can sort of keep it in this channel, keep it pasted in this channel, and nobody will know that this channel exists. So now let's head over to our other account and see how our so what looks so as you can see, the backroom doesn't even show up here. So the person that joined server, server, or anyone else other than the owner will have no knowledge that category and channel exist here. What we can do is we can go back to me six, go to welcome section, and we can select the welcome channel here. And what we can also do here is that we can change the welcome message. So what we can year add is that we can say, and we can reference a journal inside of a text message by using the hash symbol or the hashtag. We can say read the hashtag rules. So this will refer to the rules channel that we have, which is this one. So we can say welcome to the server. The rules. Before posting anything. Let's click on Save Changes. Let me minimize this. Now what we'll do is we will go to our other account. We will leave the server and we'll join it again. Let me first to go to the welcome generally or so. Then we'll go ahead and join it again. So you can see that this message shows up here. And if we go to the welcome channel, you can see that we have our welcome message here. And it says that read the hashtag rules before posting anything. So if we click on this, now this becomes link. So if we click on this, it takes us to the rule channel here because these are the rules that are taken from the EM co-design server just as a template, just to show you guys, is that as I mentioned, I have created this server targeting stand-up comedians and somewhat of funding community. Make sure that you customize your server according to your community and your needs. 19. 19 Music in discord: Hey guys, and welcome back to the course. In this video, what we'll do is we'll go ahead and add music bots to our app. So what I've done is I've gone ahead and Google bots for discord. And this website came up in our previous video, we saw a different website. So I just wanted to mention that there is no official website for discord bots. There are somewhat of a community maintained websites. So what you can also do is just Google the name of the bot itself. So if we go to the music category here, you can see that this rhythm bot comes up and I know that this is a music, but so if I just go and google rhythm Discord bot, you can see that the website of this, what comes up. And another bot for music is the groovy music board, which is this one. So we'll add both of them. So let me just go and add rhythm. But first, so click on the website, click on invite rhythm. Entering my email and password, select this server and click on Authorize. And this leg that even see that the rhythm bought appears in our discord or notification appears. Now we can go to the features and commands section of the rhythm box. Let me click on that. And here you see that we have a range of list of commands and features that this part has. So what we'll do is we'll just go back to our server and take a look at the body in action. So instead of our server, what I've done is I've created a category called Music, and I've created a text channel called Music commands. And I've also created a voice channel here, which is listen here. Now one thing to note that the rhythm bot is currently offline. You can see that it appears like so, but let's go and try to play some music anyway. So the way that rhythm but works is we have to type exclamation, lay, and the name of the song or a URL. So here I'm just going to paste a URL that it took from YouTube and just hit Enter. But the Board doesn't do anything as the bot is offline. So let's go and add the second music, BAD, which is groovy. So we'll go to the website of the bot. Will click on Add to Discord. Server, click on Authorize. And degree we bought has also been added. So we can go to the command section and take a look at the commands. So here it uses the dash play c'mon to play the song. And it also uses a link and a search query. So let's go and take a look at how this works inside of our server. So we'll go back and you can see that the groovy bot is online. So the reason I added two barks from the beginning and I showed you two watts was because I knew that rhythm what was offline and I just wanted to showcase that what happens if a bot is offline? It just stops responding to your commands end. It doesn't just work, the bot just doesn't work. As we saw that a bot is just a piece of code running on the web and it needs to be online in order to work. So the rhythm, what is not working, but the groovy board is working. So what we'll do is we'll play the song again, so we'll say plane. And this time I'm using the command for the groovy bought. And we'll insert the link again. And it says that you must be connected to a wise channel to use that command. So let me join this wise channel called listen here. And now if I type in the command again, it starts playing the song. Now I can make the song stopped by just saying stop. And it stops the music. So you can go ahead and take a look at all of the commands that both of these parts have. One thing that I want to point out is that the rhythm, what has this feature called blacklist. So what it does is that the blacklist setting allows you to blacklist all the other channels except for a few channels so that the bot will only take in commands from that journal. Let me show you what I mean. If a user say, for example, comes into the member chat, right? And if the user just types in, say play, and again, that link, you can see that the music does start to play inside of the Groovy bought. Let me just drop that again. What's happening here is that the groovy bought is reading commands from all the texts channels and acting accordingly. But we only want the bot to read commands from this music commands channel. That's why we created it, because we want to keep things organized in our server. So the rhythm, what has this feature called blacklist. So instead of the rhythm, what we can do settings and blacklist. And as you can see, nothing happens. Let me go to my music commands section. And we can do again settings if I'm not mistaken and blacklist. And this doesn't work because the body is applying. Let me just go and take a look at the combined. You can see that it is settings blacklist. And then you can add a channel names. Or what that'll do is if you do something like this, settings blacklist and then add a channel name called rules. So for example, so what it'll do is it will blacklist the rules channels. So anytime if someone types command for the rhythm body inside of the rules channel, it won't be read and it'll give it a message that you cannot use. The rhythm combined here. So that message will go out to that particular command. But as the bot is offline, this doesn't work right now. This is something that only the rhythm bot has, the blacklist preacher, the groovy board doesn't have this feature. So what if we want the groovy bought to have the same functionality? So we can achieve this by setting up the permissions for groovy boards. So currently grew, he bought enjoys the administrative permissions because we gave it the admin permissions. So what we'll do is we'll go to the server settings, go to Roles. And inside of the roles of Groovy, you can see that it has the administrator permission. So take it off, click on save changes. Let me exit out of here. Now what I'll do is I'll go to the member chat section. Here. What I'll do is I'll edit the channel, go to Permissions, add groovy here. What I can also do is I can go give a role to everybody, like every music bot can have a role as well. And I can edit the permissions of the role, but for now I'll just add the groovy bought directly. And then I'll go ahead and remove the read messages permission and the managed messages permission and the read messages tree permission. Now only removing the read messages permission will do, but I'm just making sure that it doesn't read any messages. Click on save changes. Let me exit. Now, if I tried to play the song, again, this should not work. So you can see that this text only appears as a link and the groovy, but doesn't play anything here. So you can go ahead and sort of blacklist and take over permissions of all the journals where you don't want people typing in music bot commands. So you can only have people come into this channel and sort of type the command here. And the, you can see that the bot will go ahead and start playing the song again. So let me just stop that. One more thing I wanted to mention here is that we are connected to a voice channel, as you can see. Now, instead of this voice channel, if you have the permission to speak, other people will hear you because you are connected to a voice channel. So what you can do is you can go and take away the permission for all the users who are inside of this voice channel to speak. That way, everyone can only listen to the music, right? If you are creating something like a karaoke channel where people can sing along as well. In that case, you can keep the permission to speak on for the users in that channel. Another important thing I want to mention here is that the music bots will start playing music inside of the wise channel that you are in. So currently I am inside of the allison hear a voice channel, but let's say that I was inside the admin voice channel, right? And I typed in the command to listen to music. The board joints D channel and starts playing music. Let me go ahead and stop the music now. So you saw that the joint, the music. So you saw that the bot joined the Weiss Jenna and started playing music in it. And there's something that you might not want, right? So in order to stop bots from joining any wise gentle again, we have to set up the permissions for the bot, just like we did with the text channels, right? So what we'll do is we'll go to the voice channel that we don't want our body to join. We'll go to Edit Channel 0 to permissions at the role. And what I will say that you don't have the permission to speak. So the board won't be able to play any music inside of this channel. Let me save changes. And now let me post, move the bot to a new channel, which is the listened here journals. So you saw that the bot moodier and I can move the bar or any members like so because I am BI Server owner as well as the administrator. Now, as you can see that I am inside of the admin wise channel. And if I go and play the music, you'll see that it gives us a reply that I do not have permission to speak in your voice channel, which means that it won't be able to play music in this voice channel. So in this video, we saw how to add music bots. We also saw what happens if a bot goes offline. And we also saw how to make the music board read messages from a specific channel only so that it doesn't clutter up all the other texts channels that you have. So that's how you add music bots to your server. 20. 20 Notifications in discord: Hey guys, and welcome back to the course. In this video, we'll talk about notification settings for this course. So there are two notification settings that you guys need to know about. The first one is the user notification settings. So let's go ahead and take a look at that. So we'll go to the User Settings, click on notification. So you can see that these are the notification settings that we find under User Settings. So we have control over the desktop, no deviations. We also have control over the badging and the symbol of flashing on the taskbar scrolling down, we also have control over the sounds that appear for different activities in this course. So you can go ahead and take a look at those. You also have control over the away from keyboard timeout setting here, and also the text-to-speech notification setting as well. Now let me just close and exit out though the user settings. Now let's go ahead and talk about the cetera specific notification settings so we can customize what we want to receive as a notification for any server that we are in. So we are inside of our own server, which is the funny one server. We are also inside of the gaming server and another server on E and cosines. So let's go ahead and take a look at the gaming server. And what we can do is right-click on the server, go to notifications settings. And here we have the settings dialog box presented to us. The first one is to mute the server entirely so no notifications will come up. We'll take a look at that in a minute and why that is important. Scrolling down, we can also set the server wide notifications so you can see that I've set it to nothing. I can set it to add mentions here. We can also go ahead and suppress at everyone and add here. So by doing that, what will happen is that if you click on this, then only the ad mentioned by our name will come up as an OT deviations and not the add everyone and end here will show up, right? We also have control over the z being mobile push notifications for this particular server going down, we can also see that we have gentle specific notifications as well. So these are the service-specific notifications and the general specific notifications will override the several specific notification. So let me show you what I mean. If we go to the gentle specific notifications and you can select categories here as well. But let me go ahead and be a general sale, the announcements channel. So this person or this server is sort of having some announcements and doing some giveaways. And I want to receive notifications for that particular channel. So what I'll do is I'll click on Announcements. So my default, what it's doing is it's mimicking the server settings. So it's by default it's taking this cellular setting, but we can override that, right? We can sort of click on all. So what this will do is it'll give motivations for everything that's happening inside of this channel. But for the other channels, only at mentioned notifications will come through. Also, what you can do is add multiple channels here. So what we can do is let's say the feedback on complaints channel, we can customize that as well. So we can also go ahead and pictures channel here, and we can mute that generalize well. So we have a very minute control over the multiplications that we want to receive from a particular server. We have general specific control here as well. So if I scroll up and click on mute the server, and if I scroll down, you can see that we can no longer make changes to the jhanas specific settings here. So let me just go ahead and unmute this right now. So as I mentioned, you have very fine control over the notification that you can receive in this course. So make sure you go ahead and make changes to the notification settings as per your needs. 21. 21 End: This brings us to the end of our course. I thank you all for taking this course.
