1. Digitizing Your Artwork: Hi, I'm eating. Welcome to my class on how to digitize your our digitizing Your at work is bright either If you just want to have an archived collection of your work Well, if you're hoping to make reproductions and future in this class will be going over The steps to digitize your at work successfully will cover the scanning basics calibration of your monitor finding, cleaning and sizing prints and photo shop understanding resolution and how it can greatly impact the quality of your reproductions. How to digitize an A three at work on an a four scanning beard. I'm really looking forward to sharing these ideas with you. Let's get started. 2. Amending Your Background Colour: calibrating your monitor before scanning your at work. It's a good idea to recalibrate your monitor. There are two parts of this process, the first being amending the background color of your disk pop. The background color has the ability to skew the way that we perceive colors of our digitised at work. Amending your background toe a monochrome time is your biz bit to reduce the skewed perception. If you use further shop and full screen mode, you may not need to amend your monitors background and just to me in the photo shops background color. Instead, you can do this by right clicking the bet, crowned within photo shock. 3. Calibrating Your Display: calibrating your monitor, display calibration and finding your white point. The white point is the color temperature for your monitor. Your monitor may have a warmer temperature that looks more yellow or a cooler temperature that looks more blue. Ideally, we want the color temperature on our screens. Toe Best match The color of our Prince. If you've researched a little more about white points, you'll soon realize that it can get quite complex. There are even calibration programs you can use to get the white point just right for your environment in particular situation. And this class will be looking at White Point very briefly and doing some basic checks to ensure that our prints look great. Let's get started and set up a color profile for your display. It's likely that you'll need to set up a new profile that you'll use just full. When you're creating prints, you can always change it back. Once you're finished with working on your, I recommend starting with the color temperature at 5000 K This is standard in the printing industry. If you have a professional at printer and able to make some taste prints, this is a good idea you can then play around a little more with your target white point to get it spot on. When comparing your original to a monitor or your prints to your original, make sure that the light you're using to view your physical work is neither too cool nor too warm. The reason for this is that the colors in your print or original artwork will appear to change, dependent on the color of light that you're using in the room. 4. Cleaning the Scanning Bed: scanning basics. Cleaning the scanning beard skin is a great for digitizing out work, but only if they claim there's nothing worse and spending time skinning in a piece of art to notice later that there's a large smudge across your image, we're never going to be able to remove all the dust. The idea is that you get rid of any visible smudges, dust or lint that could impact the quality off the scan. If you'd like to use a glass cleaner, make sure that you're not leaving any streaks on the glass and the glass is dry before placing any at work on top. Once it's clean, close the lid to avoid any further dust landing onto it. Don't leave it open for extended periods. 5. The Overview: the overview. Firstly, open your scanner software. You should be able to locate your scanner under system preferences on a mech or on a windows. Choose us that devices and printers. We will be using the Skinners Overview feature to help get us started. An overview scan is a low res image created by the scanner very quickly. Using the overview is not a compulsory step, however. It is very useful. Most skin A software will begin by giving you an overview scan. This is a quick way to determine whether the at work is a line properly before we go ahead and commit to a skin. If yours does not open with an overview automatically, this should be a button you can press on the screen to ask your scanner to do this. If you're still having trouble getting an overview scan, I recommend Googling your scanner model to locate the skin is manual scanning adjustments. I suggest leaving it as is, and doing any amendments or adjustments and Photoshopped or ever other program that you used to eat it. It is completely up to you either. Do not scan your at work and as a J P G or J P E G J pigs degrade every time they're opened and so are not ideal. When you're wanting to digitize or create quality prints of your at work, scan instead to PNG PST. Well, pdf at a stretch I'm not able to scan to PSD, which is a Photoshopped file, so I can scan to pee in G and then converted to PST when I entered the files and photo shock. 7. Resolution: resolution resolution is a very important part of digitizing you. Our getting this right will ensure that you can make great quality prints time and time again. If you have ever seen a piece of art to a printer and it came back fuzzy or low quality, chances are you either had a dodgy file time like a Jay Peak had a low resolution or both. You can use a 300 DP I if you're planning on creating prints off your ad that match the true size of your at work. For example, if I painted a four piece and I only ever wanted to make a four prints or smaller, a 300 DP High resolution would work perfectly if I wanted to double the size of the original at and create an A three print A 300 DP, I would not allow me to create a clear, crisp print. I wouldn't see it double the resolution and scan my at work in at 600 dp I to ensure that the quality of my at remains consistent, even wind blowing it up larger, double the size, double the resolution with a 300 DP. I always being the base for skinning at original size. Once you're happy with how your image appears in the overview, it's time to pre scan. 8. Digitize Large Artworks (A3): how to scan and a three sized at work skinning oversized at work. The average size of a scanning bid is nine by 11 inches, which is slightly larger than in a four. This causes a little bit of an issue when wanting to digitize. Larger pieces of our will be going over how to digitize an A three at work by using a nine by 11 inches skinning beard tips to keep in mind. One. You can scan the A three piece in at 300 DP I If you're planning on making prints, either the same size or smaller, if you're wanting to make an A to size print, go for 600 DP I. If you're going to make a one size prints 1200 DP, I would be your best choice to make sure that the light in the room stays the same during this process. Do not scan of the sun is rising or city when using natural light, or turn the lights on and off if using artificial light. Three. If you find that the exposure between your scans is different, you may need to do this process over again. So put extra if it and to keep the light consistent. Scanning the outward as an a three piece of art is essentially to a fours. We will be treating it as such. For the scanning process. Take your a three at work and align it in, portrayed on the scanning beard. As the paper is large, it's easier to knock it or have it slightly misaligned itself. When closing the lid. I do my best to reduce us by walking my fingers back on the paper while closing the lid, attempting to keep the paper flush to the edge. Create a new document at the same size of your original pace. Match the resolution off the new document to the resolution that you scan them and there's I scan this Payson at 600 dp. I just in case I wanted to get even larger Prince made at a later day, go back to the first scan, select all and copy bean paste into the new document, Click and move it over to the correct side of the page. Do the same to the Knicks can select all copy and paste into the new document. At this stage, you'll notice that there is a peace in the middle that over Lex. Next, align the pieces as best you can just by using the move tool on the separate layers, then a mini rapacity off, one off the layers. Now, with one layer more transparent, you will be able to match the two scans together. Even more precisely, zooming in can also help with this matching. Sometimes imperfections on your original might even help you to align your work. Here. I'm using an accidental spot of paint to align my pieces. Later, I can remove it, but for now it's helping. It's important to note that even if one area seems to match perfectly, it may not appear that way. On another section off the peace. This can be frustrating and is most likely due to the fact that one of your skin's would have been slightly skewed. Don't worry too much about this. It's often normal for the edge of your scans to be a little blurry, so choosing which layer goes and fracked can be important as this will impact, which it gets a snap. Make sure you're on the right layer and select a strip of the at work with the space either side of the scan line. You can hide the layers to check whether you've got the right layer and the right strip of painting. Selected delete the selected stroke. If you get this bit wrong, remember that control Z Undo is your friend and do the cut and then choose the other layer and try again. YOU'LL notice is no longer Opinsky. Noticeable Scan line Something else you can play with depending on what your artwork looks like, is deleting certain strips with the two of your A. Once you're happy with your matching, it's time to merge the layers. Hide the background layer right click on one of the visible layers and select merge visible . You've just created on a three print off to a full scans. Pretty cool 9. Resizing Scans: creating different print sizes. This piece of that is seven by 10 inches, but for reproduction purposes, I need it to fit into an A full size. This means that I will need to do some cropping. The best way to fit in a regular sized work into the size it needs to be for printing is to open a blank document of the correct size. Alongside your scan, I'm opening a blank, a four page. Next, select your scanned at work with the rectangular marquee tool or click Select All copy and paste the outwork onto the blank page. Then use the free transform tool apple or Control T by dragging one of the corners. Scale the at work to fit correctly sized page. Do not pre shift while adjusting the size as this will skew the image. As my original outwork is longer than in a full page, I will need to choose which parts of the pace will be cropped. Once you have size the scan with the free transform tool, you can cook on the image and move it up and down until you're happy with how it's framed. Ultimately, it's a good idea if you're planning on making prints to paint on paper. That is the same ratio as the print you're going to bank. That way, you don't need to fiddle around as much at this point or crop out pats off your beautiful outward once you're happy with how it's situated, preset tech at the top to confirm. Lastly, even if your original at work was done on the same size of paper that you're wishing to print on, it's always a good idea to check. You can do this by following the same process. We adjusted the seven by 10 inch paper. Ensure that your blank page is the correct paper size and resolution size. I'm using pixels as my units here, but it doesn't matter if you use this unit or not. So long as the size of the paper is correct, you'll notice here that once I paced the at work onto the correct paper size, it doesn't quite fit. Lucky, I checked use a handy free transform tool to resize image, just like we did before. Now I've chosen to rotate the image so that its landscape, as the true image is made to bay. This may feel like an an important step, and it may be for you, for me and helps me to see the artwork properly to ensure that everything looks okay for reproduction. If you're planning on printing these yourself, ensure that the paper sit up is correct. If you have scanned your at work in at an appropriate resolution, you may want to size up your pace. This April piece has been scanned in its 600 DP I, which means I can double the size of the outward without it losing inequality. Simply select and copy and paste at work into a blank a three page. Then use the free transform tool to size it up. You can rotate and free transform mode by clicking off the image and dragging upwards or downwards with your mouse. Photo shop will then snap the image into place. Win straight. Now you have your a full peace sized up to in a three again. If you're printing at home, check that the orientation is correct when you go to print. If it doesn't fit it all, it's likely you'll need to click print seatings and adjust the paper size 10. Using the Clone Tool: cleaning the print clone toe. I like to claim my skin's before I do any re sizing. It's easier to do cosmetic touch ups to your heart when it's at its largest and most rule. The only exception to this is with my oversized or a three pieces, as it's important to have one complete pace before doing any cleanups. Don't try to clean the scans before merging. If you need to merge, firstly, check to see that your skin is striped. You can either re scan it if you find it skewed, we'll do some planning to fix it. Or you could crop it out so that it appears straight and this Listen, we will be fixing the skew by using the clone tool. Get the clone tool. Make sure that the opacity is sit toe 100%. As we want full coverage of the white section. Zoom into the area that you need to fix Ochlik above the white space. This indicates the original point of cloning. Click on the white space and drag your mass across to fill the space. You may need toe Ochlik again at some points to make sure that everything aligns 11. Using the Crop and Healing Tool: zoom in on your at work. This will give you a close look at any imperfections before we start removing misplaced paint splits and stray bits of fluff that have made it into your scan. Keep in mind not to go overboard. You want to end up with a professional, clean piece of art that can be made into prince. What you don't want is to do so much cosmetic work to your piece that it no longer resembles your original outwork. Select the healing tool. The healing tool takes the information from around the cursor and fills in the space where you click it. This is why it's perfect for removing little pieces of dust that should not be in the image . You may need to adjust the size of the tool, depending on what you're trying to heal or fix. - Specks of dust are going to show up more on DACA areas of your at work. You can choose to go in and remove them all, if you like. Doing this would probably make the reproductions look much more professional. However, it's a good idea to keep zooming out to inspect your work every now and again. Once you've cleaned the hour, go ahead and save it 12.
