1. Digital Portraits Intorduction & Trailer: digital art is all about unleashing infinite possibilities, which, as a tradition artist might be impossible. Hi, guys. My name is large car coercion, and I'm an artist, magician, designer and creative entrepreneur. Understanding human face and structure would be a daunting stuff, but it would seem like translate with this process. I believe in simplicity, in sickness in every task I do. So I tried to build an easy mechanics, which can be fold quickly with definite results. In this course, I will walk you through a step Bester process in illustrating abstract portrait with your own photograph or reference for rap using procreate on I petro with apple pencil. You can follow the same mechanics if you're using some other application or device already been illustrating. Base Photo: the first step will involve finding a photograph, which you can further evolved into additional masterpiece. Composing Canvas: since he had chosen Now are ah, photograph that you're going to further evolved into the final artwork. So just adjust your image layer, um, to fit and compose it on that canvas. Ah, you can repeat the door, you can keep it straight and just try to align it in the best possible fashion that you feel that people be a good composition for your canvas. So yes. Ah, the mean contours, the main shapes, Like right now, after making the face shape around, I'm starting with the hair. But the one thing that you have to make sure over here is that whatever shape that you're making, you close it and I will tell. I will show you later why this is important. But but the thing is that what you have to do is like you have to crap the solid shapes like if you see the faces. One solid shape defined by the line and the hair in itself is one solid shape that we have constructed over here. Do not forget to close the shape. That's very important. I will tell you shortly why, but please cause the shapes for sure. So now I'm going to continue forming the different shaped blocks for I pros. Ah, for nose for nose. Oh, are like a lot of friends, but what it can do is like you can create an abstract texture within the hairs so we can subtly create like a lot off lines. Or maybe some abstract shapes when it comes to here and feel free to experiment and see what the O. R. What shapes you would like to create the while working in the hair. So mix off taking thin lines and maybe some interesting shapes in the in the bigger part. Uh, so I think that will create that magic. So now we have created our skeleton Lehrer and created some abstract shapes beautiful, defining our basic sketch. In the next lesson, we will be working with base colors, feeling all of these shapes and giving them a solid feel 5. Base Palette: in this step will be just feeling based. Color off our artwork so well we make the firm, you'll be choosing the color planet and then picking of the colors to fill them roughly. It's no detailing record just filling them roughly. So first step is to open the layer panel and duplicate the sketch layer so one of them can be kept as a safe layer. So now we're going to go to the color palette and choose some colors to be put in our artworks. Right now, I'm building my own color palette here, choosing some star colors like being purple, yellow orange ricos. I think these are the colors which will create the drastic effects on this portrait because these are the colors, which usually are not normally available as a skin color to usually the skin colors or die the dark tones off brown or skin color like those colors. But these will be like dramatically different. So what a day and doing is I'm dropping, uh, scratch. Ah, like I'm choosing the color swatch and then from the round color picker, just dragging and dropping inside that shapes to get those shapes filled with these specific colors. And that can only happen if you have closed the ships, so if the shape is opened and the color leak all over the place. So that's why I wanted to assure and mention that earlier that whatever shapes your drawing , close those shapes. You do not have to now ah, color or paint like that. You can just drag and drop, and it's more faster bay off coloring our basic ling or basic color foundation. So keep on dropping the colors, these Villiers shapes, and I'm choosing specifically different tonality of colors and making eat segment different . So the idea is like you should not color a distant segments are in the same color. So for example, if one section one segment is that a yellow now the lips of the joining a distant segment. So you make it think. And now the lips further has a incompetent, so you can color them either in purple, so make eat segment off different color like the distant segment. Also do not use too many colors so ideally, like your whole at work and have perhaps 6 to 7 colors. So I think that's ah good way to look into, uh into the color Ah phenomena color Torrey. So let's safe on the face we're using like that four color so that is perfectly fine. Don't overuse the colors because then it will start to look like too much. Not in sync. Cross city and ah, let's in are the body if the body were using the purples and the ah don't off purple. So try to use similar kind off and loggers colors to build the body parts and further and you're going to color here. Then you can use maybe some other kind of color palette, which can be entirely different from our body and Murphy's. So I opened back. That emits so you can read for a real time, and we can see like what particular parts can be or what particular colors. So it's completely your inspirational like thought process or whatever you feel like if you're justifiable in terms of choosing the colors, filling the part so it doesn't need Teoh Theo the phone or the color skin off your original folder actual form. So feel free to experiment here and make her own color palette and use the colors that you feel or which are personal deals. For example, if you were making some artwork for, Ah, some specific purpose, or maybe let's say you're making the artwork for or getting inspired from, let's say, the flag of the United States or maybe the flag off some other country. So maybe you can use perhaps the colors of all from that particular flag. Or maybe let's say you're making this piece of illustration for a particular brand. Let's take maybe Pepsi or maybe Coca Cola, Oliver McDonald's. Then you can use the color palettes for from the brand. So, for example, for Pepsi, you can use red blues and maybe tone and different shades of blue to achieve. Ah, specific illustration Spire for the brand. So feel free to experiment with color palette and choose different colors, which you personally can relate to. Or maybe if you're working again for some brand and something close to that no, uh, it's time to call her hair, so you're building color palette for the hair. So I feel like green is something which, although gela, pit this whole color skin because purple and green goes really well. So I have taken pre different shades of green. And, uh, we're going to add that over to our different shapes to make sure the right careerist lecher because else it will fill on the respective area and that that is what I was doing. You next lesson where we will be working on the highlight and fine tuning the whole artwork . 6. Building Effects: Theo. Now is the time to add some highlights and shadows. So how we constructed the base structure off her file. We will be using these layers to add highlights and shadows on our be sculler players. So now we open the layer panel and creating a new layer and slag blend more to multiply because this layer will help us quit darker cereals and top off our base layer so you can name it a shadows, because that is what we're going to do, and you can choose the same colored palette. But just tune the brush to brush color to a darker version to select that same color palette, the same color snatch and, uh, make it a little bit like dark promotional. That same color. You can try it out how the color will look like. So I choose the same script brush and increases size to the maximum and destroying it out. How it will. So I feel the need to make the color little more brighter and little more darker to get that high, that shadowy effect. So that's what I'm doing, like trying to find that perfect blend off color. So now let's try and being tipped the area so you can refer back to your originals with and see where there are more shadows and there is more lights right now. Just focus on shadows and try to color those areas. Ah, without worrying too much that it's moving here to try to construct a game like simpler shapes. Ah, and more like feel free to use a single stroke to make that highlight and shape, feel free to move the brush and create these strokes. Do not worry. You can undo any time and just believe it tried to create a free flowing strokes. Do not think too much about that, whether it's going in the same pattern or not, or whether it's like we're going too much out or just feel free to get that right car. And this is what I'm trying to achieve in all of these strokes. It needed map something perfectly fine, as similar to base here, but just right to create those unique strokes on free flowing strokes, a single stroke as opposed to being too reserved. I think now we should choose more stronger color, so we are going to find darker version off purple So instead of just working with yellow, because now we're going to color the party, so choose the darker version off purple move years later, A little bit the disk a little bit, too. You achieve the strong purple color, tried a couple of times. You feel that this is not working or this is too much dark, or you need to make it light her a little bit. Or, as you feel it's jelling of this whole ah, artwork. So feel free to, uh, experiment again and see what you feel works best. Its Continue creating these strokes in the body on the face now on the hair, so feel free to add all of these highlights. Rough ring back to the emails. Rough ring to your insights to your quickly, really, how you feel. I just feel freedom like given it, the stroke goes out. It's fine. Perfect. Fine, because later we're going to find you. So do not worry right now. If it's going off your frame mainframe of the base color layer. Just create simple free flowing strokes, that's all. I think this looks good and we're done with our shadows. Now it's time to create little highlights so later ah, worsens off your base color. Layers were on the image. We're seeing light falling. We're going to color that poor. So I have created one layer and have chosen the blend mode to color dodge, and I'm going to rename It has highlights. So using the same color swatch, the one which we created earlier the other one when I'm painting with same scratch on this layer because Ben mood is color dot so you will see it all medical. Give that lighter tones. You don't have to ultra colors too much, just paint using seem swatch. Just refer back to the image and see where you see that, uh, highlights those light reversion in the image and being that over across your ark work. So the interesting thing about highlights is that they can exist in itself as simple shapes . So on chin on the cheek, you can make these little circles than can extend them further to make thes nice looking shapes, which looks abstract as lance and, well, character. To our portrayed, it's going to the eyes and add these little shiny pupil a car. The eyes are shining forward, so you can cross back rapture to the photograph to your own inspiration again and feel free to read. Thes highlights. Theo. Mostly now we're done with their highlight as the shadows. Now we just need to find to all of these colors, which ah, are the highlight and shadow layer, which got out or escaped out from the base layer so eternal the base color layer so you can evidential seat against the sketch layer and taken a razor to and start raising them slowly , slowly and finally. So now after this stage rear focusing more on the details. - So now we're pretty much done with cleaning all those fonts and the I think it looks really nicer closer to our final artwork. Now, in the next lesson, you will be working on detail ing this Ferber adding smaller and finer details, and it will be really fun and creative to take this forward ahead 7. Refining and Detailing: Theo. Now comes the final part and you'll be doing detailing so little bit, raising little bit, adding details. And in this step you will start seeing the final outcome or something that you love, actually. So we start this by opening layer panel and creating a new layer and renaming it as detail . You will continue using the same pen which we had been using from the beginning. Just reduced the sighs off the pen. So this is the fun part. Now I'm going to look for all the imperfection. So you see the eyebrows and that's completely filled up with our purple place color, and something is getting out and flowing out. So now what I'm going to do is I'm going to construct individual shapes following these lines thes color in violations or disruptions and detail by trying simpler, simpler lines. So actually hatching it or if you want it for some other pattern, you can do that. But most of the piece I'm going Teoh do very, very lose one side hatching. So because I broz has that hair texture like the sharp pair veg is so that is how I'm going to follow in color the eye Pros Needle eyebrows First, you see, you can, uh, find in all these imperfections your advantage by making the unique, smaller shapes. So we're going to continue doing that, making detail and refining every aspect. And this is the best fun part that he will actually enjoy because it looked records, a little bit of patients. So it actually sort of fun part where you can connect all of the mistakes together to bring in new elements and highlight new things. Yeah, - so now you can sketch additional hair details So little slip ins little ah, here, coming out off the solid shapes of 15 feet of at like 10 lines, 10 strokes. Like tapering them a little bit from the start so that it looks like they're like some sharp pieces or edges off hair. I feel for your detail it as much as possible to your choice. So the more time you invest into this tomorrow detailing will come. There's no into that you can just deal it highly. Feel free to do as much as you like, because this is the last final step before we move on to detect Cering part where the whole final artwork will come into the collection or combination off along these different layers resembling your final art piece way detailing part. Texture Mapping: out comes the final part when you can experiment with Dexter's branches or different layers to overlay on top off the final piece to give it some Dexter and effect. So I googled some of the key words mentioning free textures free for shop press textures, free dust textures free. Additional people textures free postcard texture so you can go all of these free, full shop Texas stuff, and you will get a lot off free textures. So I picked some of them, which you can see over here some nights. Dust texture, some patterns to some of these dusty particles. That's one trees all of this lake was really cool to work with and get that final touchup effect to some of them. These rust cracks these rusty textures so you don't have to rest. Restrict yourself, Teoh. What I am recommending here. Feel feel. Choose your older certain off textures your own stuff and take this forward. So getting back to procreate again opened the rear panel, and the first thing that you're going to do is add texture on top of the base color earlier , and then we can truth for the travel on the other players ritual shadowing highlights. Just use the base color layer and click on, said things do add the photo that critical texture that you want to add on this particular earlier. So insert the file and ah, I am for speaking up something for the because I'm experimenting and trying to see, like what were expressed. So I'm going to choose one off this postcard texture and ah, see how it actually looks like. So I'm trying to skate it a little bit more and, uh, see how it works. I think I can put this on top off layer. Or maybe I can put one texture on the background. So I am destroying the opening plans. He what works best. So I put this on the back a za background layer, and I'm going to make a little adjustment and see how does it looks as a background. I'm just trying to match perfectly within the frame, uh, composing this. Now let's write about another extra and, uh, see how it Charles up in top off the solid base color layer. So only to that part where the body is I'm trying to just over late this picture that extend now, try to experiment different blend mode. I think. Let's see which one works best. So, uh, okay. No, I'm looking for more darker effect. I think this looks good for a meal that's private alone. Okay, I think this looks nice, color girl. So let's leave it like this. Now. What we need to do is you raised the part off this texture, so that doesn't goes outside that specified border area. So I'm going to do is masters on top off my solid base color earlier as this is now master , which you can see that it's including away. So now you can control that. You can see zoom in it or zoom out and see what fits best. So I'm trying to find the correct place, man. Correct size for the space and see how it works. I think this a little bit more. Ah, maybe, uh, I think this looks cooked. Perfect. Now what you're going to do is take in a razor and raise it from a lot of parts where I do not need this texture where it is going out on my player. So I just want this extra to cover the Purple Part, not the orange part, what you can see right now. So what I'm going to do is raise this over so that it becomes little more neat. Just cover the area where I wanted to be. Way have added one texture for clear. So I feel I need lived more dramatic effect on the rest of the face because we only the texture on the body but something for the face. So let's drive with this rusty threat, texture and change the blend mode to something which looks decent threats first places than skillet to the areas were we needed.
