About This Class

Hello and welcome to my second class here on Skillshare.

In this class, I will share the steps I take to create digital planners using my windows computer.

You can follow this course using your computer or your android device. (or apple device)

I will be using the application called "Google Slides" and then testing our project using the application called "XODO"

I wanted to make this class as easy as possible while using free resources to share the step that I personally take when creating some of my customized digital planners.

I focus here on a  basic design. However, once you know the basic steps the options are limitless.

  • Before we get started, please make sure to have the application Google Slides installed in your android device or if you will be following along using your computer, then be sure to be signed in to your Google account and then find the Google Slides using the applications menu on the top right corner. Right under your account id-picture.
  • If you would like to test the project with me, then also install the application XODO on your android device.
  • Instead, If you will be on your computer, then you can simply search to import and test our project.

* If you prefer to work on your iPad, I have a fun and easy to follow the class on how to create a digital planner using an iPad, you can join that class here;

I will love to meet you and share our projects and planning tips over at our social media channels.

1. Intro and How to get to Google Slides: welcome in this class. I'm gonna teach you how to create a digital planner using a Windows computer. If you happen to own in Io's divisor an apple device. I do have a class right. Show you how to do this using my iPad. And I'm gonna add a link to that course below. Hello. My name is Daisy and of a productivity coach. I focused on helping individuals like you to create an actionable plan towards a successful life and career. Gonna be using a Windows computer. The application called Google's Lights and the application Cold soda to teach you how to do this. Using my Windows computer. I am going to share my screen before we get started. I want to invite you to followers and social media invites searching, predictive planning and also learning about us in a little bit about us in our programs at predictive Planning Coach. Okay, so we are ready to get started designing our duty to planner using the global slights. As you can see, I am already in Google's lights. But you, if you haven't gotten to this part edge, you will have to log in to your Google account. Then go either right here to your abs and file. Find slides. And if you happen to be in another area like Google documents or another, like Dr Works, whatever, you can go here and then select slide, right, so that's what we need to be at to start creating the plant. As you can see, you have used us before. I have created a variety of planners right here. These ones right here are a little bit more complicated because they have in village men's to the actual planner. Additional tabs. They have decorations for the death of different backgrounds out to simulate a desktop. So this is going to be a class for some of the day. Today we are going to focus on creating one of these two, which is the store actually the same. The difference is the sizing and the position of the planner on the screen. Again, they are basically the same. They are basic digital planners. It is a good idea to start basic to just kind of get familiar with the designing process and where the tools are and how you want to export the planners and how they look. Once we export all of them and all that stuff. So that's what we're gonna be focusing today into creating a basic planner. 2. Setting up our Slides to Begin our Project (170): already. So now that we know what we're gonna be working on, we are ready to get started. And to get started, we need to go up here and click on the plus sign to work to begin our work with a blank presentation. Can see right here you have a blank slide. It has some area for you to add some text. He gives you the ability to change the background. Um, before you even get started with the rest of the so you have the same background or design throughout your presentation. But for this case, we just need a very a completely blank slide. So we don't need this for we can close that we can go ahead and select all of this and delete. And before we begin to add additional slights, we want to make sure that we work in honest eyes on a slide size that we need. And to do that, you can go appear to file, go down to patients, sit up and then from here you can select a preset sizing for the slide, Or you can just add your own or create your own. In my case, I like to go with a living by eight, just as a regular page for a printer page in case I need to print I paid from my planner or in case I need to work with anything that it's printable. All right, so once we have that set up, we have the blanks light. We have decison that we need. We can go ahead and add the additional slides that we're gonna be working with in this case for the the course purpose. Since we're doing a basic planner, we are going to be focusing on creating a cover page, the front page in 12 pages for the 12 months. So we're gonna need fourteens lights down here for us to work with. So to do that, you can select Make sure you have this one selected, so it's gonna highlighted in orange. You are going to do seater ale si for copying and Ctrl V for pasting. And you're gonna do this until we hit 14 slides 3. Designing our Planner Cover (171): already. So we all ready to get started with our designing to start with the bones off the planner? We I like to start with the cover design and that gives me the idea of how it wanted to the overall look of it, what colors I'm gonna be using and all that stuff. So to do that, I used to shape up the shapes up here. If you click here, it gives you the traditional shapes that gives it. The square is the circles and stuff, and then down here, it gives you additional shapes. Obviously, you can create your planner. However you want it to look, you keep created to look like a triangle, like a square like a heart. Whatever you want for my in my case, I like to go traditional. So I like to use the rounded edges rectangle. And to do that, you select the shape up here. So, like the shape that you want and go up here and place it in your slide. So what that's gonna do is supposed to show it right here. There'd Oh, there we go. This is the shape of a planner on. In this case, I have selected around. It itches, so I can't adjust that to my liking and not like to set it to be a little bit round it on the ages, just not too much for a more realistic look. And then I like to stretch it to be as large as possible. But I always like to leave some space around it, in case I want to add buttons at the bottom or in decide, or if I want the taps to overlap and kind of show a little bit on the side and or if I want to add taps at the top. So I like to keep it about this size, and then you can use the guided, um, the guides right here, too, to align your planner. All right, so now it's centered, and now this is going to act as the cover of our planner. Now you can go ahead and change color you can. At shadow, you can add embellishments. Some people like to add stitches, stitching to about to the borders. Some others like to act texture to it, um, again, for the purpose of the planet. The course. We're keeping it simple, so I'm just gonna go with color. And to do that, you go up here, select your shape and go up here and select whatever color you like. I am going to go with the light or inch, and I am going to add some optimum shadow to it. So by selecting by making sure that you keep your shape, select it, go up here to format, and this options are going to show for you go down to drug shadow. All right, so right here you have the option to kind of play around with this tools right here and set up the shadow as you like it. I like my shadow to be around the planner in that way. Um, it's just kind of shows around the planner. It gives it gives it a realistic look. We can also do the angle shadow, like you can see if I totaled here. If I move it around, the shadow moves towards the left or the right of the bottom. So definitely play around with this and set it up to your liking. All right, so I'm happy with this one right here with the shadows as this and now we can go ahead and close this. And there we have it. We have some shadow around. We have the color, and now we can add the, um Actually, this is the cover of our planner. So whether you want it, it's important for you to know if you wanted to create a landscape planner or a regular size or traditional sides like a new book planner. In this case, we're creating a new book, kind of planner. So we do have to it just this one to be abouts half and then center it You could let leave it as it was. And then that will get the created illusion that you have a landscape planner in case two are wondering and in all the steps that we're going to do in this class would apply regardless off this style off the planner. So you kid leave it like that if that's what you want and we are ready to add the ribbon and two at the ribbon. I used the line tools right here. Go to line. And then you know that you have a selected when he has that cross. Okay, so then you couldn't have place it. Whatever you want it to be at. If you want to know that it is straight. If you click here, if you click on the line and you move it a bit, you will see that it it pops a blue line up here and that tells you kind of helps you, guides you to create a straight line. Now we can at just dis icing. We want this one to be a bit wider so he can represent our ribbon. So to do that you will go to the line, wait and at just dis icing to your liking. You can also adjust the color by going here to the line color, and I'm gonna go with a darker orange. Let's see how that looks. School darker thing, that it's good. And then you want to take it to the border off your planners or to the edges of your planner. Right Here's an edge, and it it's OK if it shows a little bit. Tours a little bit over the edge. It gives it the three d kind of look so that it's good. You can also add a shadow to this ribbon. If you wanted to add that additional touch by going to the format. Make sure you had the line selected, which is the ribbon now. So like that to go to format and they go to drop shadow and then right here you go tours the left if you want it to be darker. Well, you were happy with the result. All right, that words for me. So we have our were planner. We have the ribbon to open. And then you can also add a little line here to represent the binding off your planner and that it's always an option. It's optional. It doesn't really do anything but just create the look off a finding for the journal. All right, so now we have the cover of a plan already and ever ready to move on and start reading our pages. 4. Designing our First Planner Page (172): we have the cover over, Planner. Ready. We like the colors and everything. So now what we gonna do is copy this and paste it on the second slide. And to do that, you simply go here and select. Um, just make sure that your your Indus slide not here, then Sitara l a. To select everything in your slide. Ctrl c to copy all of it a swell and go to choose like to and pasted by doing sit here. L V Okay, so now we supposed to We are supposed to create an open planner. We already have the cover up here. This is our first page. So it needs to look like the planner. It's open. Well, simply stretched this part right here to make it look like the planners open. So move this to the side, stretched your planner towards the left and make sure it's centered. Used this line to create binding. Actually, let's move this one to the right first. Okay. And then this line can't pretend to be the binding, but tours the inside binding. It should say, okay, there is in the middle, and we might need to move these later on So let's make it larger or towards the edge so we can see it. Okay, so now we have our open planner right here. Now we're ready to add our pages. We're ready to add tabs and anything else that you want to add That will be an interactive link. You want to add it here, and the page will simply be the same shape but different color. Whatever color you want to create your page as so copied This one. Copy Bite Sutera, Elsie Ctrl V to paste Make it just a tiny bit smaller and center it and then change the color. In my case, I like to go with the light gray or off white. And now you want this one to be under the binding line that we just placed in the middle. So to do that, make sure this this shape is selected or your page is selected. Go to arrange order and sent back. Do not do sent to back because this will send it all the way to the back So it will be behind you Cover. You just wanted to be under the binding line like so Now take some time to adjust your page . You can leave it like this to be this size. You can make it just a tiny bit smaller and center it again. I think that looks fine. And also right here. You can either leave the page like this to be to open in a double page as soon as you open your planner. Or you can create this page to be a one side page, Holy. And that will be by doing this years. Page will be towards the right. You have your planner open right here. You can just add your name right here. You can create pockets or other designing stuff, so it looks like you just open your planner in your first page. And this is the way I like to break my finder's. But you can also do it how it was before, because some planners do have a soon as you open the page. The planner, it does have a page is just kind of sticked to decide. But they some of them do have it. So it's up to you. So in this case, I'm gonna leave it like this. And if you want to create a, uh, a three d kind of effect. You can do this. You can leave it like this because they have the shadow and it looks neat. But you can also copy this one more time or as many times as you like, actually, Copy and Ctrl c ctrl v paste it. Make it just a tiny bit smaller and align it towards the left. I can't align a top left that see? And now six it to be touching the border. The bottom portion off You pace your previous page in this you can see on the right you will see double pages. So it looks like there are multiple pages, one on top of the other one. 5. Designing our Monthly Tabs (173): So now that we have the page ready, we're ready to start adding our taps for the monthly tabs or whatever other tabs did you wanna add here, you can add, um ah, subject tabs on the top. You can add the month here and other taps as you like. Just make sure you add them all in this very first page that we're creating. Okay, so now we're ready to start with the monthly taps. And to do that, we used also that shapes appear. You can create the taps to be any shape you like. I am going to go with the rectum, go the rend it rectal. And I am going up here, and I am going to go with, um, fairly small tab, because all I'm gonna do is add the initial for the month. I just kind of set it up. Appear to have an idea on how it looks. I can make it to look, to be flushed against the border off the planner. Or I can make it to be overlapping and kind of showing up to right. So now it's up. Do you do want to make sure that this edge right here. It's as close as possible Tours, Theo. End of the page. Not all the way out to the page or the border of the page, but close enough. And the reason is because when you're using your planner, whether it is with your if you're using finger to write or if you're using a stylus or s van or an apple pencil when you're writing close to the tap, it will tend to tab on that on the tab. And it takes you to that page. And sometimes we don't want that. We just writing closer to it, not necessarily want to navigate. Wait. From what we're doing so well, you want to move it slightly towards the ride towards the edge of the page, but not do not flush it with the page. Now we have the size that we're looking for. Now you can move it up here real quick and copied this one. We are trying to make this one to be first, the first tap. Then the second time will be under this one, and so want until we get to the end of the the taps. So you are going to copy this one seat here. I'll see. See Tero V to paste. And now we want this one on top. If you have this one here, it looks to meet your looks backwards. It looks like the taps are just wrongly placed. So we want to start with the taps on the top and then the next ones underneath the previous one. Now you can select this one and by pressing shift. So like the other one is well and copied This too, in place on top. Now we have four and we can copy this four and paste them two times to get our 12 taps. Now we have our 12 chaps. Now you can select all of it, all of them to move them and arrange them where you want them to be. But it's good for me. And now I am going to move this page to be on top of this taps. And that is another reason why I like to add at least two pages or to make it look like as I have two pages or multiple pages, because I can add this one or move it to the front just like this, going to arrange order bring to the front. Actually, you do want this one to be forward to fright. And it still looks like I have multiple pages because I can still see the bought the bottom page at the bottom. So it just kind of gives it that three D effect. Now we have our taps ready, and you can add whatever else you want here. If you wanted to add a pocket, it's fairly simple. You used your shapes and you go for whatever shape you want it to be. Actually, let me go to Global Two This shape It's not gonna be an interactive pocket owners you at lynx and other embellishments to it. But it's still of nice now, so people like to add an area for the name that will be just selecting a shape, placing it about this, finding a nice place for it. You can change the color if you want, and that's about it. You just center it with the page itself and that it's it. Now we are ready to start adding our links to the taps 6. Setting up Interactive links (174): we are ready to add the links to our tabs. And at the beginning of the course, we explained that we were going to keep that simple. So we are going to jump in right away into the monthly layout. We are going to jump in right away into January. So to do that, you will select on you will civic your tab. You can do see tear lk and that will show you the window for you to select a slide that you wanted link to this particular tab. We want to link this tap to slide three and you will continue to do this all the way down from to slide 14. So we started an four. We are ending in 14. Let's do one more time. Select your tab Ctrl Okay. And select Slide four apply and he shows right here. What's I just liked it. So it is a good way for you to verify that you selected the correct slide and you will continue to do this until again We get to slight 14. We have our taps ready. They are lined up. They have their particular length there. They have been assigned he particular slide. We do want to make sure that we have the ribbon also linked. I wanted to do something for me. So if I am in this page, I want this ribbon to close. My planner, you are going to select your ribbon. See here. Okay. And a sign. A slide in this case, I wanted to close my planner. So I'm going to assign slide one and that will be here. Apply. So now when I click on that ribbon, it's going to close, my planner and we want to do the same saying on the cover area we want this ribbon to do something for us. So you were going to go Ctrl K and assigned a slight in this case, I am going to assign slight to because I want this to take me to the very first page off my planner. Now when I click, it's going to take me to this page. Now it's done for you to decide. If you want to add text in here, you can leave it blank and then just write it down as you use your planner at stickers later on. Whatever you decide to do for the purpose of the course, I am going to add text just to show you how it looks 7. OPTIONAL - Adding Text to your Monthly tabs (175): you will go appear to the text box, click where you want to add it and arranged the text box. Then you will arrange it however you want, you can make it larger, smaller? You can make the letter thick. You can change the font. Just kind of play around until you're happy with placement. Do keep in mind that some initials are wider than others. For example, letter M will be wider than this one. So he will look a bit different on that tab, so you might have to adjust it as needed. So that is good for me. I am going to selected and was selected text box itself. He and copy Ctrl C in situ will be two to place it again. And continue that until you have all of your initials placed all the way down to 2 December . All right, so I kind of just the taps a little Baird and the sizing off the initials to kind of make look more symmetric ing We have are linked tabs. We have a linked ribbon. I think we're ready to copy and paste towards the, um to complete our other pages for the planner. So let's go ahead and start doing that 8. Final Steps Before Exporting (176): direct sewed, making sure that we have everything in place. All the length are set up correctly. All the pages that the shadows and everything that we want in our planner It's here, obviously. But besides the set up for the monthly, the actual layout for the pages, because that would be different. But you do want to make sure that all of your length are right here and they are set up correctly were rigged it that we went through them and make sure that thes tabs were assigned correctly to the slight that we wanted to be and that a ribbons were also ah, signed. If you wanted to have anything else in here, you want to add the links right now, if you're ready now, we can select all of this and pasted on flight three. So you are going to go with C T. R L A and Ctrl C and then go to slight three and see terror LV for pasting. Now we are ready to create the very first page for the various the very first month layout . In this case, we're working with January. So this part, we don't need it. You can delete that and what we are going to do. This is kind of like a short cut, so you don't have to redo the whole thing. Just make this one smaller so you can see the bottom one and stretch this one all the way to the side where you wanted to be and then do the same with this one. This part we don't not need it. You could leave it if you wanted to see border right here and kind of peek into the pocket . But you don't not need it if you're gonna have the page all the way to the left so we can believe that and make strategist one as well. Always leave in just a little space between this one and the bottom one. So you can have that that multiple page look and you want to send this one wants to the back. And that is on Lee to expose the, um, the binding line. Let's see if that works for us. No. Now, this. Don't do that. And let's instead selected binding line carefully and moving that one to the front instead . All right. And that again gives us the illusion of a binding. If you were creating a landscape version of this, then you would not need this part. So you can skip this part now. This is our very first month. So once we open our planner, we're gonna get here to the first page, and from here, you're going to probably select tap to take it to January and then is gonna show in January Tab So you could at something here, you could use shapes to create you monthly layouts or topic area. Well, whatever design you want at here, you will do it here. And then once you click on this, tap it. It's going to show here because you're whatever you decide in here. It's going to be permanent on your planner. So we're ready. We have are linked tabs like three and all of the other ones are linked correctly. Now we're ready to copy and paste, so we're ready. This is January. Now we're ready to copy this one and paste it on the rest of our months. Let's make sure that we're selecting destroyed we clicking here somewhere and see trial A a copy. Now let's go to paste in. This will be our February tab. Now make sure that instead off matching destination, we want to keep the source formatting. This is a little bit tedious when you are pasting when you're because you will have to check on this one every time you paste. But you do want to take this additional step to make sure that your links do not move around. So let's go ahead here. Make sure you have keeps wars, and we're going to continue to do this all the way to slide 14. After you have have paste, a few of them do. Make sure that your links haven't move around, so you could do that by just checking the very first set. Make sure this is still slight. Three. This one still like four slights for slight five and so on. Um, it really doesn't hurt to double check. Now we have completed our finer. You can name it whatever you want. I am going to do a sample digital learner with windows, and I do. You could do a preview. It lets you see if your links are working properly. So let's try that and see how it works. So the links seem to be working. Fine. We are going to open our planner. This is our first page. We can close it again. If we need to open and go to the month and right here, we won't see much of a difference. Because again, we created the same thing all the way down. But if you had created a different layout for each of the months, then you would see the difference, right? So I think I am happy with this one. Let's exit from here and we're ready to export it. And we're going to do that by downloading this file and then open it. It it opening the file into Sodo. Let's go ahead and start doing that. 9. Downloading and Exporting our Completed Project (177): All right, so we made it. We have decided we have designed our digital planner and we are ready to download and import it into ours. Sodo Application. We are doing this where I'm doing this on my windows computer, so I I'm going to exported and imported into sodo dot com on my windows computer as wept. If you happen to be doing this in another device such as an android tablet, you will have to download the file and save it to your to your device, and then you will open your application Sodo and search for the file. From there it is basically the same thing is just looks a little bit different from the computer side to the to the application in an android device, but it's basically the same. All right, so let's go ahead and download the file where you have it ready and we will go to file download and you want to downloaded as a PdF document. So let's go ahead and so, like pdf and it should be downloading, and here you will select where you wanted to save it. Let's just make sure it downloads first, and then I am going to open it from DeSoto side, right. So it finished downloading he. Now, let's go to Sodo. And I haven't really opened its just by going to soto dot com. And this is what you will see. If you happen to have an account, then you can log in. I do recommend doing that because if if you're gonna be using this application often or you're gonna be using it for planning, then you want to save your progress. So do make an account and, um, and save the progress progress that way. If not, you can still use it as a guest. I am just not sure how well it will save if you're working with the planner using the application. If I have that makes sense, I recommend having an account that you can sign in, and you can also access it from other devices as well. So that is a pro. All right, so now we're here, I'm gonna leave it of the guest for the purpose of the course, and now we are ready to find the file that we just downloaded. So in my case, I have it saved to my desktop, so I am going to find under look file. I can go to quick access and it will show me the recent once. And this is the reason one sample d digital plan of Windows open and it will take me directly to the planet that we just create it and this part will be fairly quickly. I just want to show you how it looks when you imported into Soto and and we're just going to review and make sure that the links work in make sure that links are working just kind of over your planner with your mouth, and you should see the little hand that indicates that there is a link in here. So click here. And he worked the first link. The first linked the first link worked. It opened the planet for us. And that's what we wanted to do, that we can double check that it closed it a swell. And now we can check our monthly taps. And again, like I mentioned before, you might not see that much of a change in here. However, if you look from here in the back of the bar, you will see it moving. So that means that the links are working all right, so that it's pretty much get guys we meet. We made it. We had created a digital planner using our Windows computer, and we are ready to start planning. If you want to learn how to create a more personalized planner, do make sure that you follow our classroom and follows in Social Media. To know when that class will be up in that class will be showing you how I create my layouts for memorably plans. How I create customized inserts and extra pages to customize my planners as I took you for joining in today and enjoy your plenty.
