1. Introduction: Colorful visuals reflect the spirit of the destination. They keep your memories alive and inspire you to explore further bring magic to your travel moments with the colorful drill posters illustration. Hi, I'm Eva and I am a creative entrepreneur, illustrator, and teacher and host of outside of live broadcast. In this class, you will learn to create the travel poster illustration, either as an everlasting memory from your favorite city you visited in the past, or as a visual inspiration for the travel moments you want to experience in the future. The travel poster you will create can be a great addition to your portfolio, online job or an awesome present for your family and friends. I will take you through the whole process, starting from brainstorming, then sketching, creating thumbnails, digital painting, the final details, and pictures. Brainstorm: First, I would like us to think about, what is the iconic for the place you want to imagine when you think about this destination? You can do a visual brainstorm or work with words. Words at least are good to generate new fresh ideas, and you can even combine these two, whether or makes you feel more comfortable. For 5-10 minutes, I'm thinking about, what you want to research? For our illustration, I want to use return as a reference, specifically, Zurich. So think about the climate and geography. Is it iconic to have snow or more summery feel in your destination? Because Zurich is near the mountains, I can even choose a combination of snow on the mountains and spring with little bit of flowers to have a nice composition and combination of these two. Then you can think about, what is the traditional food in this location? You can decide to include food on the table, on the travel illustration, or the character is holding food. For example, for Switzerland, I can include cheese. Here, you can also call it a lot of reference images or chocolate. Here, you can brainstorm more on other food ideas. You can also think, what is the fashion in the location you are drawing? For my illustration here, I would just go for a modern, up-to-date fashion. You have a lot of options here. For example, what would be your character wearing? You can think about trending outfits as well, details like big heads, skirts, patterns, or jewelry. The next thing I would like you to think about is to notice the architecture in the place you are going to draw. Are there a lot of modern buildings? Are there in art deco style, old buildings, church, maybe a lot of angle grooves and chimneys? Or what are the details you are going to implement in your illustration? Also, will the buildings be full of color, maybe with wooden beams, DLT droves? Are they very colorful or monochromatic? All of these ideas down before you start illustrating so you can choose the most iconic visuals. The next part is to think about plants. Here, you can think about, what plants are in the location? Does the location have a tropical field or a European plants? Or you can do your own research. What are the most iconic plants in your preference in either flowers or greenery? Another detail which you can add to your illustration is transportation. In this part, you can think about old-school trams. Is there a lift, new or old cars? Are there lot of bicycles, for example, like in Amsterdam? Here in Zurich, I know they're also boats. A lot of people are also on the bicycles. They are old streams and other details like this. There is one more, which are animals, because you can also implement some animals in your travel poster. If it is very tropical, you can add parents, for example. I know that, for example, in Zurich, there are lot of swans on the lake. That would be very iconic for this travel posters. Animals. You don't have to force animals in your travel poster because of these location in Zurich is very iconic to see swans and ducks on the lake. I will write here swans, and you can spend more time on the brainstorm and ideas and you can right away do some sketches and little doodles near your words, whatever fits you the best. But for now, I think this is good enough for me to have a list of things, whether I want to include in my travel poster. Let's look at some reference and start sketching. 3. Sketching: Okay, and now let's start with some sketches. We already did our brainstorm and now we will implement it in our thumbnails and we will put down some first ideas on the paper or in the digital form. I will create a new file and I will make it custom-made, even though it doesn't matter for the sketches, but I will have already the file created. If I want to sell the artwork or print it in the size which can fit in the traditional frames like for example, what IKEA has, or whatever you get in your local store. So I will go for European A3, which is 11 by 16.5 inches. So I will just write it in millimeters. So let's call it A3 canvas. Here you can change to millimeters, so, I will change to millimeters. Here you see it's too large, so the width, of course I googled it. I don't remember these exact numbers. So you can google the traditional sizes and you can decide on your own, what size is the best for you. So I will go for 297 millimeters by 420, and here I will have 26 layers as a maximum, and if you want to print it, don't forget to have 300 DPI for the highest resolution, or of course you can have a higher one, but 300 DPI for print is good. I am going for RGB color space, which you can see here. You can go also for CMYK, because CMYK is the best for printing, but platforms like Society6 take RGB, so, here you can change it depending where you are printing. Dimensions, we have this here, so, 297 and 420, and A3. So let's create, and we can start sketching. You can choose any of the Procreate brushes. There are a lot of great ones. So for example, 6B pencil is very nice, and you can create your own folders, but I talk about it in the other course about the Procreate and the settings, so, you can check out that one as well if you want. Now let's do some sketching. I will change to gray and I will open some reference images on the phone or you can have it on the computer as well. So you can start quiet small, so you don't have to create something super giant or very detail. I suggest you to do at least three sketches so you can explore more options. So here I will be looking at the reference images, choosing some of the iconic things and implementing it in my sketches. We also have the notes, what we did before. So you can look for details in the reference images. So in the first sketch, I want to implement the church because it's very iconic for Tarik, this church with two towers. I probably implement these detail into every sketch. Think about the details of the church. What is the most iconic there? Maybe the round windows and the two towers are the most iconic for this building. So definitely don't have to include every detail which is there, because then it would be too complicated and we want to have a balance of details in every part. So if you include small windows in one building, may be you can reduce the amount of windows on the other building and balance it out, for example, with a bridge. Because the view to the mountains is very nice, so, let's include also that part. You can add some greenery and simplify the mountains. To balance it out, we can add some clouds. We would want to have some texts also here at the top, so, think about that one, that this part shouldn't be too busy. As we talked about the transportation, what is also quite iconic for the Zurich Lake are the boats or the sailing. Now this will be my first idea. Let's do another one. I will add little bit of greenery on the side because you can see there can be some greenery here. I can add a character looking through the city with a head maybe, as we talked about the fashion, maybe what is the trending fashion? A lot of people wear hats recently. I will add again the bridge, what we talked about, and part of the transportation we talked about boats. So let's add both, with the tourists, and we can have the small swans there again. I also really like the mountains as we had before, so, I will add the mountains there and the clouds to balance it out. And some small buildings here too. Maybe you can add greenery here on the top to frame the image, so, you balance it out. If you have a lot of greenery here, you can add some greenery here on the top as well. Another idea can be a close-up. So the girl with a head can be right next to the river, so, we can have bigger swans here. You can be right there. You can, of course, lookup references for swans, so, they can look like ducks at the beginning. Again, you can add the iconic church in the background. You can already start thinking, what will be the balance of the contrast in the composition? Which parts would be the darkest, and which parts would be the lightest? Okay. Let's do one more sketch before we move on to colors and redefining the sketch. We can flip things around and we can put our character on this side for a change. I will keep again the church, but it will be a little bit closer to us now, and later on you can add these type of buildings as well because they are quite cute with these nice rooftops. So don't copy just one image, but be inspired. Of course, if you make your own photo, you can take exact reference from your own photo. Here I can bring the background lake closer with some sailing boats, and I can make the lake a little bit more visible. I can have a boat again and some swans. They will be smaller because we have the boat here and the mountains, and again some greenery to balance our image. Now we are done with the sketch ideas and we can move on to the next part. 4. Cleaning up the Sketch: Here are the sketches, what we have, you can also make more thumbnails and more ideas. But for now, I think this is fine. Now I will select one of the sketches, I will make it bigger and then I can start defining it a little bit more. I will take one of the sketches. You can do, cut and paste, you can hide all the other sketches and make this one bigger and we can redefine it. What I will usually do with redefining the sketch, I will reduce the opacity, I will make it fit my window, and I can move around with the composition because I still want to have text here. I need to make space there so I can move the whole thing a little bit lower. I can start a refining on a separate layer because I really like this layout. I will have a text here, so I need to make space for this. I will redefine the sketch based on the references. I decided to go for a longer hair instead of the head, and then the girl will be leaning on the fence. Here I decided to add some greenery with sunflowers, same also on the other side. Here I want to align the two sides of the river to fix the perspective. Here we can add some houses because you can see there are a lot of houses on the banks of the river. The church, I will move a little bit lower because of the text. Here, I will add the lake and a little bit of the mountain range. Here we can simplify the mountain range because we have a lot of details in this part with the buildings. You can have this part more smooth and then add more sharper mountains in the background. Try to add variety because right now as I made the mountains to straight, it's not very pleasing to the eyes. I can make these mountains higher and then it can go lower here and balance it out there. There are many mountains here, so this is how you can balance it out. I can add some clouds in the background to balance this part. As you see, this part is very empty right now, so I can add some water reflection so we can work with two different colors on the water in this part, and then we can add a lot of different swans. We will balance it out nicely. As you can see, this part is also quiet empty, so I can add some arches in this part too even though they are not there in the real life. Also some detail and some storytelling in this part would be nice so let's add some sailing boats here, and snow on the mountains because that was the iconic part, what we looked at, which defines, so it's quite nicely. From the nodes, what we took, we had the plans, we had some European bushes, we have a classic girl character, nothing too specific because I didn't find it very fitting for this image, but you can decide on your own. I can add some traditional lamps here as well to add to the architecture of the bridge. I think that would be a nice detail. Then we have the transportation, which are the boats and sailing. You can add also tram here on the side if you like that part. Then we have a traditional architecture and the climate with the snow. Here I redefine the sketch a little bit more, as you can see. For example, I redefine the character where I want to have the shadows, more plastic hair. She'll be leaning towards the fence. I added few details as lamps on the bridge. I also fixed the perspective. These two lines are aligned. As you can see, for example, on this image, the perspective is that the curve of the island, is here, and then we have more or less straight line for the lake and the mountains. This is what I did here as well. Here I curved it a little bit, so we don't have too many straight lines because we already have this one on the bridge. To break the line here, I added the boats here. Here we'll have more details on the mountains like snow. This area is more empty and the cloud area is more empty. We have these nice balance here. A lot of details are in the city. That part will be balanced with the characters. There is a point of interest here and here. I am also already thinking where I will put more sport colors, which will be probably on the flowers so it will be warm tones. People are usually more drawn to the warm tones. There'll be some on the roofs, and the character will have dark hair, and there'll be a little bit of dark colors here, so the higher contrast here. If you want to know a little bit more about color and light, and why I'm doing these decisions, I also have a color and light course and how to implement it in storytelling, if you want to check that out. I have my references here. As you can see, I refined more the sketches on a separate layer. Now I can merge them, and I will set this layer to multiply. I will reduce the opacity. This layer I can delete, and I will start building our colors from back to the front. We will have background layers, mid the ground layers, and foreground. I will be using the selection tool for coloring. You can also color with brushes if that's your preferred technique. But in this example, I want to show you how you can have a crisp nice edges with the selection tool, and then add the dose and bank shares at the end. 5. Background (Mountains): For the town posters, I created this color palette. You have some green, brown, and some things or warm tones which are like this orange brick tone because there are a lot of them on the roofs, but I still want to have a limited color palette so that's why there are not more colors, because you can see there are more greens, more blues and everything. You can create color palette like this. You can take print screen and pick and choose the colors as I showed in my other classes as well. You will just import the photo, use the color picker, and then create a color palette. Let me set this to default and we can start coloring. I will start on the background colors. I will create the layer here and with the selection tool. Now the rectangle is good enough for this part. This will be just for the background. I will sell like a light blue and for the bottom part, you can just do random color because it doesn't have to be anything very defined so I can take something beige or maybe gray, so it's not so distracting. We set up some background color and for each element, I will be creating separate layer so it's easier for us to color and change the details if we need to. Clouds, and here I will swap from rectangle, to free hand, and I will hand draw the clouds. I want the selection to overlap the other parts because they will be on the layer on top. The clouds will be a little bit lighter than the background. First, we want to create the mountains because the details like snow will be on top of it. [ MUSIC ] Now, this one is not so visible right now, but we will create the snow and it will be more visible. All of these other elements will be in foreground so we don't have to worry about that part just yet. [ MUSIC ] Because we did quite defined sketch, I can just follow the sketch and not think about it that much. Because the snow is on the rocky mountain, I'm not using any curves. I am using only straight lines, so it looks more rough and sharp. [ MUSIC ] Here we will add white. Now we have from the mountains and as you can see, we are progressing quite nicely, to add little bit more detail to the mountains so they are not so plain, I will add little lighter spots which are the indication of variety in the mountain range, or it can look like rocks. Another layer, this will be above snow because I want to add some details here as well. Again, I will be using the same technique, which is sharp, but here I will implement also some softer edges because the mountain is not so sharp in this lower parts because we have the valleys and smaller hills, as you can see also in this referencing each. Then how can you simplify all of this, if you are looking at the real-life photo or when you are there in a real life, you can half close your eyes and try to see what shapes blend to each other. How can you simplify the complexity of the real world you actually see? If you half close your eyes and look at the whole mountain, maybe the whites of the snow will blend together and we will mainly see where the snow transform into the rock or the edge of the snow. You will see only the line of the snow. Here you don't have to be so precise because it's a mountain range and there can be lot of variety in these rock formations. Our eyes are not so used to seeing mistakes. Like for example, if you look at the human face, because there, if you move something just a little bit, everyone would see there is something wrong because we're so used to looking at these details. But in the nature, you can have an excuse of moving elements a little bit. [ MUSIC ] This should be lighter than the rock, but not as light as the snow. You can create some color which is similar or in between, your two colors of the mountain and the snow. [ MUSIC ] Now we have our rocks and now we can go to create some of the mountains which are in the front of the big mountain range and the lake, like this, we will fill in our background and you will build each layer separately. We have big round clouds, snow rocks melting, this foreground mounting, the other hill in front of a lake, the small boats will be as well on the separate layer with their reflections. Let's do that. [ MUSIC ] I create the shadows on the lake just to break the beak shape into smaller parts. Now, I will add the boats and their reflection to add a little bit more detail. Let's do boats. [ MUSIC ] I'm simplifying the boat quite a bit, because you can go overboard with a lot of details but here as they are so far away, you don't have to see all the details. As I was telling you with the example, when you are half closing your eyes and look at the things may be at the horizon or very far away from you, you don't see all the details. Your brain, will fill in the information for you. That's why we are drawing only the small triangles as boats. The reflection would be the same, but a little bit more squashed because the reflection is not perfect here. You can reduce also the color of the reflection, so it doesn't have to be pure white, but it would work also probably with white. We will drop the color also to our boats. That's all and I will make the reflections a little bit darker as I said, and as a last detail here, I will add a little bit of the water details. [ MUSIC ] This is the indication like when the waves are breaking and you see a little bit of highlight on top of the wave. Because the boats are breaking the water surface, so they might be creating these small waves around them. This is enough, I will color them. Sometimes if you cannot drop the color properly, you can just change your brush, make it big, and color it like this because you already created your selections. [ MUSIC ] We are done with the background, so we can move to the mid ground and the foreground in the next video. 6. Town: In this part, let's illustrate the colorful town or the city and I will start with creating a new layer from the base colors. I am inspired by all the orange roofs which you can see on a lot of the pictures. The roofs will be more orange in color as I showed you before which will be something like this and the base for the city will be in the gray tones to count everything down. Let's do that. I decided to add already the bridge to the base of the buildings, so we can start building up the shadows right after that. As you can see, now it's already starting to build up the shapes. I will add the roofs and little bit more color on the separate layer to break the shapes of these part without adding the details and shadows yet. Now I will go back to the building base and I will add the color to the lights. Now we want to add little bit more color to the base of the houses, so there is a little bit of variety here. Now on the additional layer, I will add details in shadows. If I will be, for example adding windows to the pink, I will use darker pink and if I will be any darker windows here, it will be darker gray. I will make it more subtle. Also for the yellow, it will be just darker yellow but more warmer tones. Because of the architecture of the city, there are lots of houses with the rounded windows, which adds to the character of the city and the whole old buildings vibe. I am combining square windows and rounded entry ways and doors in details like this. Think about what type of windows are in the city you are drawing. Are the modern? Are they rounded? You can drag and drop the color or you can paint it with the brush like I'm doing right now. Make this house a little bit darker and therefore the details will be darker than on the other houses. You can also select the color of the house and on the color wheel, you can just move the slide a little bit to the door tones. Hear on the roof or on the towers, I am drawing mainly the shadows. Because if you would draw all the details, it might be too much. If you're having trouble with illustrating shadows, you can scrunch up your eyes a bit so the subject is blurry. This way you can simplify the blocks of shadows and this works for areas of lights too of course. This technique helps with simplifying what do you see on the reference image and really grasping the essence of an image and capture it in your own painting. Because I don't want to overload the illustration with details and too many colors, I am drawing only shadows here, not highlights or the light. In this case, if I would add highlights to this illustration, it might become too realistic which I want to avoid. I want to keep the style quiet simple. You want to add shadows under the roofs and also from the side of the houses like here. If our sunlight is from here, then all our shadows will be going this direction. That means also on the water, the bridge will be darker from the bottom end here and the shadows will be from this side. I am not drawing all the casts shadows maybe under the character here, but not on the streets. I'm creating the shadows and the lines on the buildings slightly lighter in color, then the windows on the buildings to create variety and also because I don't want people to mistake the shadows for the windows when they look at the illustration. I know this is not a big difference in color. But they find it different enough in this case. Here as you can see, I disabled the layer with my sketch to see better where I need to do some adjustments or edge shadows or details to divide the shapes. In addition to color change of the windows, I am adding lighter details in the window area with a brush with clean sharp edges. This brush is also from procreate so you shouldn't have trouble finding it. The details on the windows will create more visual interest and hint of realism in this area of the illustration. But because we are keeping the color of the window details similar to the building color base. It doesn't create too much contrast which is good because I don't want all the focus on the church in this illustration. If I would want to highlight this area as a main part of the illustration, I will create more contrast here. Now we need to add shadows to the bridge and details around this part. As you remember from the video with sketching and the base colors, I wanted to have lamps on the bridge to create more details in this area. The easiest way is to create one lamp with the shadows and all the details on a separate layer and then copy the object aligned with a bridge perspective. I still need to add some shadows under the rooftops and on the roofs. Let's do that. Because we said our light is coming from top right, we need to make the left side over the rooftops darker. These roof is casting a shadow on this one that's why it's darker there too. The shadows under the roofs are creative in the slightly darker and more saturated color tone compared to the base color of the building. As you can see from the reference image, a lot of the character of the town is created by the tilted roofs, small chimneys, roof shingles, and the roof windows. On the buildings itself, we created details in form of windows and archways and now we can add more details to the roofs in form of the simple lines which are hinting the roof shingles. We are not drawing every single detail on the roof either. As you can see on some of the houses, I'm adding roof, at the windows and small chimneys to create more visual interest. After creating a lot of these nice small details on the houses, so you can almost imagine people are actually living here. I decided to add a little bit more of details and create cleaner edges on the church as well. To balance out the contrast of the illustration, I'm also adding few darker lines on the church base color. As one of the last things to add to the town area, I need to Zoom out again to see where I need to add some of the last details, either to divide the big shapes or balance out the composition with details. If the lines are little bit vocally or crooked, it adds to the character of your illustration. Don't worry if something doesn't add up or it's not super perfect because it also makes it interesting. Now we are good to go with this town part and now we can move on to the river with the swamps and the shadows. Let's do that. 7. Water & Swans: Now we have to add water, which will be behind the building base. This will be for the water. You can combine the layer with background, but I want you to have a separated foreground, midground, and background, so I will create another layer just for water. The water shadow is breaking our image in this maybe less interesting area because otherwise you would want to maybe put the boat there or some other point of interest. Now, I will add swans. If you want or need reference for swan anatomy or shapes, you can scroll through many images and just get inspired by the shape of the Swan and how the anatomy looks like. Think about the silhouette of the swan. I think this is quite okay for the details of what we want to achieve because they're quiet far away. Now, I will just add some water splashes around them, the same as we added around the boats. I will have more of these reflections also around the bridge to have more of those visually interesting details on the water. I will add one more layer of the water, just something little bit lighter. Now we are still missing some of these midground trees of which we can add behind the town. We are done with midground, so we can move to the foreground in the next video. 8. Character: First, I will start with the illustration of the wall or the fence next to the character. Edge of these wall should be similar to the edge of the river to follow the perspective of our image. I'm using darker tone on the side of the wall and lighter on top, where the sun or the light affects the wall the most. Now, let's create the girl. Here, I am also starting from the base colors and then, building towards the shadows. I will draw her hair, her body, her arm, and face, and I will add shadows to her and under her body on the wall she is leaning to. When I'm drawing hair, I'm first thinking about the big shape and later filling in the details like shadows or highlights. In this illustration, I'm keeping it more simple, and I'm only illustrating shadows. Following the overall shape as I mentioned, and then later on adding curves. Now, I will create the base for the body. In this illustration, I'm selecting pale skin color, because it creates nice contrast with the dark brown hair. The pale color is similar to pings in the town, and the character looks a little bit like me. You probably you want to illustrate yourself as a character too. But please feel free to choose any skin tone or hair color you like for the illustration. You can for example, try dark skin tone with the pale hair, which looks quite interesting, and you can see this example in my Paris poster illustration. You can see the process of this illustration in the bonus video too. I can add the shadow. Here as you can see, face's a simple, oval shape with a little bump as a nose. Arms and hands are also simplified. If you have trouble drawing hands, just imagine gloves, and simplify the hands that way. We want to have the body darker than the wall so it stands out. Now, I will add a shadow. This is good, and because we are limited with the layers, you either work together on layers here or you have the smaller size of the canvas, or you can merge some of the parts you are already happy with from before. I can merge the hair because I think it's okay. Here, I will add a shadow on the wall, so here there will be a shadow on the wall, just tiny bit darker as this part. I'll go to the disk, make it darker, and paint over. Then, we need also a shadow here. If you are not sure how to draw the shadow under the character, just follow the shape of the objects near the character. Here, the shadow under the character on the wall is following the shape of the wall. We can add a small detail on the wall here to add a visual interest. I will just create a small line a little bit darker. I think we are done with this part, and now, let's move on to illustrating the bushes and the flowers in the foreground. 9. Foreground (Nature): Now what is left is foreground. So let's finish our foreground with some nice bushy trees, with flowers in the darker tones, as I mentioned before, to bring more attention to the foreground. So here, and I'm using darker green because we want to create this nice contrast between the foreground and background. Because of the atmosphere, objects and areas far in the distance are lighter because of the particles in the atmosphere which reflects life. So further you look, it will become lighter and less saturated. I have too many layers, so I need to reduce some of the older layers. Now I can create flowers. Here you can go more random because flowers don't have to have special definite shape as the houses. Because, if you create a strange shape, it will not look as out of place as if you would do a crooked house. Unless you go for that style with crooked houses, but they wanted them to look a little bit more realistic. So the houses are supposed to be straight, solid built, and the flowers can be more wonky than abstract shapes. I'm still following my sketch for the placement. First, I am drawing the base color and later I will also add a shadow. So they'll look little bit more realistic. First, let's add the base color, and I'm using a warm tone, because we want to bring the attention, and I think I mentioned it before, that warmer tones people notice much faster. So if we want to bring more attention to the girl, which is here in the foreground, we have to create more focus in this area. Now there is little bit more balance between the mid-ground, background and foreground. There is more negative space around the girl. Here are more busy areas with the flowers. Here's again, more calm and busy areas with the town. So you want to balance out these elements. Plus we have this mountain range, and this hill and the hill right next to it. All of these lines are pointing our view towards the city. So this is not like random placement exactly, because you want to guide the viewer towards the interesting points in your illustrations. The same goes to this girl. I have the bush which ends right next to her, and another one goes right here. Because if I would cover her with this tree or a bush, we will not have such a focus on this character. So always think how this composition would influence the objects in your illustration. Leading lines, amount of details or the busy areas, negative space or more calm areas, and perspective and balancing it out with colors. Less saturated colors are less important in the illustration, and more saturated ones bring more focus. I will still add little bit more shadow to the flowers just to make them more realistic. Then we will move on to the last details and little bit of texture. So what I can do here, I will create the Alpha Lock and I will create the shadow right on the flowers. I will take the flower. Select darker tone. I am selecting the bottom part of the flower and the middle. Because if the light comes from the top right corner, it will be hitting the flower from the top and the shadows will be on the lower left side. The same will go for the bush, and as we have also here on the girl. So the light goes here. Shadows are on the lower left side. Here the shadow is just under the hair, because the face is covered from the hair. I moved some of these flowers because it didn't look very natural, to have so many big flowers next to each other because in the nature, you have big and small flowers. So it doesn't usually happen that you have all the time the same size of flowers. Now, let's add some details and textures to be finished with this illustration. 10. Details & Textures: Now let's add some last textures and details, plus the text and then we will be finished with the illustration. So I will select the bush because it's a very big part of the illustration and it has more solid shapes, so we want to break it apart with little details. So I will take some interesting brush, so maybe some of the screens, and I will take the greatest screen tone, I will go to the bushes, I will select the color, I will make it little bit lighter, I will do Alpha look, make the brush bigger, and I will add little bit of the highlight here. You can create also separate layer for this one if you are not sure if you like this technique, or if you like this brush for the highlights so you can change it later on. I will also add a darker shadows in these areas, I will also add some darker tones here, and I will add a little bit also to the bridge. So I will go to the mid grounds, I will select the building base, I will do also Alpha look, I will select the color from here, just to add little bit of the visual interest in these parts. That's why we separated everything into the layers, because now you can just paint over for the details, otherwise, you would have to do the selections again. We can add little bit also to this mountain, and I think that works quite nice. One last thing I would like to balance this corner, so let me find the wall. Here I will make the corner a little bit darker, and I will add a little bit of a highlight also on her head. You can add little bit of the sparkle like dots and dust. It's very small detail, but sometimes it's very nice, so you can add it also here to the wall, and here I just selected white, that should be it. The next thing what I want to do is to add little bit more of the texture, and you don't have to draw all the breaks, but basically we will just hint that the bridge is built from the breaks. You just want to be aligned with the bridge. Because if you would draw every break, it will look too forced and there will be too many details and it might steal the attention from the rest of the illustration. I think it works quite nicely and one last thing what I want to do is to add an extra layer with texture. So either you can go to one of the platforms like envato elements or some of these and download the texture which you can place over and add as a separate layer and that one you will set to multiply or overlay or some of the blending mode. But this one you have available right here, if you want to add a vintage vibe to your illustration, so we will select one of the grays, then I will check if the gray I selected is exaggerated either me need to add more blue tones or more other hills to my illustration, then I will drop it on my separate layer, and then I will add a noise filter and more you drag to the right, more of these small dots will appear. Depending how much of the vintage vibe you want to have in your illustration, the more noise effect you can add. But around like 30 percent is usually enough. Then you can go to your layers, select overlay, and reduce the saturation of this texture layer. I can also reduce the opacity of this layer, so we don't need to have such a strong texture effect on it. But you can check it, you can see these small dots. If I disable it, the dots will disappear. So I think these works quite nicely. The last thing we want to add is a text, so inside the text, we'll write Zurich. We can go edit style, writing Zurich, choose a font which you like, I like Avenir Font, and you can select a different color for your font as well. I will choose white, and I will drag the font in the middle of the poster. I can turn on also the drawing guide, to be sure if I place my text where I want it, if it is in the middle. I think these works quite nicely. Drawing guide turned off, and I think we are done.
