About This Class

Game Design:  You have to crawl and then walk before you can fly.  A good exercise (the "crawl" stage) is to modify an existing game, then playtest it to see what difference the change has made.  Use the nine structural sub-systems of all games by choosing a change in each one.

The class project, of course, is to design a game by starting with a well-known tabletop game (or at least, one that you know well), modifying one or more of the nine game structures.

This isn't practical with video games, of course, because most people haven't the skill to program changes, even if they had access to the source code (they don't).
