Who is this class for?

This is a basic lino block printing class for anyone from beginner to advanced.

I'll show you how to make your prints by hand without the need for expensive studio printmaking tools such as a printing press. The printing method in this course is done using an everyday spoon!

You'll love this class if you

Students will learn

In this beginners class there are six steps plus an extras section. We'll cover single colour lino printmaking techniques from initial sketch to creating an edition of prints Including:

  • Lino block printing basics - tools, ink and papers
  • Brainstorming and sketching
  • Image transfer techniques
  • Lino carving techniques
  • Printing by hand

What do I need for this class?

Basic lino materials and tools:

  • Silk cut lino block
  • Block printing ink - or see my cheap homemade alternative recipies in resources
  • Ink roller or paintbrush
  • Lino carving tools
  • Ink rolling plate. Anything that is flat, smooth and non porous - for example: a piece of glass from an old photo frame
  • 300gsm smooth texture/hot pressed printmaking paper
  • Baren or metal spoon

From around the home:

  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Eraser
  • Sketching paper
  • Disposable plastic gloves
  • Water
  • Scissors
  • Sticky tape.
  • Box Cutter
  • Newspaper/Butchers Paper


Optional Extras

  • Wintergreen oil and cotton swabs
  • Carbon Paper

Hello I'm Sandra.

I love to decorate. And I love making stuff. So combining the two and making beautiful things to decorate homes makes perfect sense to me. Printmaking is the one thing I couldn't survive without. I've been printmaking since my early 20's when I discovered it at art school.
