1. Horse Ink Materials: all right, so let's get started with our alcohol in course, and you can print out the pdf for all the materials you'll be needing. For this course, you will need some additional items if you have taken some of my other courses in the past , and the optional one would be the blender pen made by chameleon. You'll also need it's a masking fluid or frisk it, and you'll also need, lastly, a mini Mr by Ranger or some other type of very fine mist sprayer for your alcohol. You may skip this section or use this part as a refresher. If you have taken one of my previous alcohol in courses. This is what the alcohol inks look like. This is made by a ranger. Adirondack, which is by Jim holds, and they come in these little kids of three colors. You also can buy them separately. The colors. They do a nice job putting the colors together so you can't go wrong with any of these three colors that aren't kits. So I'd advise you to pick your favorite colors, and you could see that these little bottles or small they will last you a little while though, putting on how much you use for your backgrounds but their 0.5 fluid ounces and they are flammables. They do have a warning on them. This is something I wouldn't recommend, usually with the younger kids, and it does have a warning on the label. But alcohol, ANC's based clear their permanent there very fast drying their A Dye Inc. And they're formulated to create colorful Polish effects on non poor services. And they give you lightened and blended, and you could remove some of the colors of the depth of the colors with the alcohol blending solution, which is what this is. And a lot of times I'll use this just for my backgrounds. And I'll use regular 91% alcohol isopropyl alcohol if I'm using it to either take out paint or if I'm cleaning my brushes. So what will be using for today's class is you po paper, and sometimes it is hard to find, but they do have them online. You could order them in these little pads. This is little five by seven, their pre cut their fairly thick. They're shiny, and they have a non porous surface, so they're cut glossy and like, if they come in this size five by seven and they also come in some other sizes, I have the larger one here, and they come in pads as well. Or you can if you really enjoy it, and you're not sure what size you want. They have the sheets that are 22 by 30 as well as full roles, which are about, I think, 60 60 yards. So there's some opportunities for some different sizes, so you could paint any size you want. But what I'm going to start with is a five by seven, because I'm gonna show you here in a eight by 10 Matt. So, as I said, we use 91% isopropyl alcohol and we use 91% rather than 70%. Is's. It just does a nice job lifting. And if you want to use this in place of the blending solution that does a little bit better , job with the background and really what that does, is it or the blending solution? What it does is prevents it from drying really quickly on you. We'll also using a little fine detail brush. You want something with a nice point on it. So something very small and this is a zero or a size one, which would be fine. Also, you'll want some gloves because the inks, as I said, do stain. So you want something that's gonna protect your hands, and it does get a little smelly with the alcohol base. So, um, sometimes people will wear masks when they're using this if it really bothers you. But make sure you're working in a nice ventilated room or a bigger space when you're using the inks. And you also want to have either a roll of paper towels or untold towel, something that you could wipe off your brush as you clean out each color with the alcohol. And sometimes I'll put a tissue down or paper towel down as I'm doing my backgrounds and the way the excess ink and drip off onto my paper towel. And what I have here is a mat set in a backer board, and this is an eight by 10 Matt, which has an opening up of five by seven and eight by 10 backer board, and this is a nice phone board. You could really use anything for your u po paper to tape it down onto, but I would just recommend that you do tape it down onto some things that you can turn your painting as you move along in the painting process. And I'm using some blue painter's tape that I'll be taping down the U boat paper onto that board with and I have two cups will be using this to Philip with the 91% isopropyl alcohol . And this is a Sharpie, a black Sharpie thes air, great to use with alcohol inks, their alcohol based, so they work very well with them. And I'll use this to either sign my work or, if I have some fine detail, black lines I need to put into my painting. This is great for using and not only the black, but I'll use the white if I wanted to do some highlight areas, and this is a gel pen, this one. It's made by signal, and sometimes you'll find that it gets a little gummed up with the NX, So having a extra spare piece of paper to see what kind of scribble on get that pen rolling again. It's always nice to have next to you now these air spectrum Nawar about markers thes I don't use a lot, but again, if you need to get some fine details, you have a hard time with using the the small detail brush and the inks are blooming on you a little bit too much. These give you a little bit more control. They're not necessary. But they might be fun just for you to try or have in your your back pocket, so to speak. If you really get into the inks and you want to learn, learn about a little bit more and play a little bit more with, um so our final material that will need and this is once we're completely done with their painting and we've let it dry for 24 hours. This is cry Loncar, Maher varnish, and I have to say this is one of the Onley ceilings that I've found that works with alcohol inks, and you're gonna spray this a couple of times. Gonna do a couple coats. Once you let that dry, you can do a final seal of the UV resistant clear spray. This is just a coating that will protect it for light and for the sun, and I would also recommend, if you do frame years, that you frame it using an ah museum glass or ultraviolet glass to protect it from fading. 2. Horse Ink Sketch: All right. So I'm gonna have you go ahead and sketch in your horse. And I do have a pdf printable copy for you. This is the original photograph that I used and his name is Timmy. And you can go ahead and print out this original photograph. I've added a pdf for you on the bottom here, and this is the original painting. All finished, and I just wanted you to see what it looks like. What I did initially was I went ahead and free handed this entire horse before I did the painting. And once I had it completed, I went ahead and grab some translucent, you po paper. And then what? I did. Wasit grabbed the U PO paper and laid it on top of the original painting. So I was able to trace that out for you. So we will have a pdf also of this particular print. And that way you don't have to free hand this one. You could just take the extra time and practice on painting rather than drawing so you can see hair. I'm just basically taking a number two pencil and just laying that on top and sketching out all these little details and you can get it is detailed as you like. It's a little easier to be more detailed. Go for it. And I did the original painting on a heavyweight. You bow paper. Either one will work just fine for you. And you may need to use either a light box or a tracer if you decide to use the heavier weight paper. So go ahead and print off that pdf sketch and it's underneath. The downloadable resource is of this section. And go ahead and get that sketched out and one quick tip before I have you go, you can make yourself a wonderful color chart for alcohol. Thanks very simply by just grabbing a piece of that you po paper and setting your colors up in sets of three, most the time will come in those sets of three and that we have a good idea of what your colors we're going to do. And if you put your colors together, you could see how they're gonna blend in together 3. 1. Start by masking in your Sketch: All right, So we're going to start with outlining our painting here with some masking fluid, and you can get this. Any local art supply store and masking fluid is basically it's called Miss Get. Sometimes it's just more like, er, like a rubber cement. And what this will do is keep the area white on your paper, and it's gonna turn kind of robberies if you've never used this before. Well, I usually do is try to pour it into a cap that we only have to use just this little bit here. And if you have a second container to cover up your bottle, that works great. Or have you have a little, um, container to put it in? That works best, so you don't want to use a really expensive brush for this. You want to use kind of inexpensive brush because it sometimes it can ruin your bristles if you don't get the masking fluid out in time. I have heard other artists say if you dip yours in a little bit of soap prior to putting the masking fluid, it makes a little bit easier getting the brush off. We don't have too much soap on their because you don't want bubbles. So one other thing is, when you're putting the masking fluid on, you want to make sure that you don't shake the bottle because then you could get a lot of air bubbles in there. So a nice, just real gentle kind of up and down motion to get the bottle going. So all I'm doing with this is just basically outlining the horse, and this is going to give us a nice little barrier between our background and our horse, even though I'm doing this basically with the same colors E I just want you want you to see how it looks. It makes it kind of pop because you've got the nice, bright white right around the frame of the horse. So once I've got that all done, you can go ahead and just pop in a few little spots of the areas that are gonna be more highlighted or white. And you could see that my pen that I used unfortunately is actually mixing in with this blending solution a little bit. So we're gonna see how this turns out when this is all done and hopefully this will lift the black great off of here. And if not, we always canoe. Snow capped to cover things up, so don't worry about it too much. So these are just little areas that I see in the original painting that are more highlighted or left white. So once you are done and I did this fairly quickly, so I know I did. It's not going to dry on because this stuff does dry a little fast, but by using the coverages, dumping what I don't use right back into the bottle, you want to make sure you clean that out really well, because that does get all rubbery and sticky. And then just place that back on, make sure you wipe around your edge of your glass so your jar is well to make sure that you don't have anything on there when you goto screw the top back on and that is it. So the next step we're going to ah, go ahead and start with our wet and wet section of the background 4. Alcohol Ink Practice Background Pour: Let's try a practice session with a wet and let background. So I want to start with Here is we're gonna be doing a poor without using blending solution . Now you can try this on you bow and you can try it on tiles. In that way, you can kind of see the difference in how the inks work. And this is going to drive very fast. This doesn't matter. What colors you use were just try some basic mixtures from the color wheel. I'm gonna be using watermelon and pull blue for this for this demo. But you can see here how they really kind of don't blend really easy. When you don't use the blending solution, you can see how intense that colors are and how dark they become. When you're mixing them together, course a red and blue makes purple and you can see where I have some drips here. It's not flowing, really the way I wanted Teoh forgetting some streaks in the paper is are the inks trying on the paper really quickly because you don't have that added blending solution. So the blending solution really slows down that Dr process. Let's just try, add some blending solution what we have here, and you can see how it reactivates the inks. It does make them a little lighter, and you can see how it's really kind of flowing and moving now so we can kind of take our brush, and it was kind of reactivate What we have up here, you can see it's a little thicker cause it's had a little dry time here. Let's just kind of blend that out, and you could see where the you put paper kind of stains, but once you place another color on top of it, but the light stain, you really can kind of cover it up. We'll go ahead at the blue and add the red underneath here and where those two meet obviously is gonna make a purple, depending on if you have more blue, you get a blue purple if you have more red and be more of that reddish purple so you could really adjust the the color purple that you want. So now you can see where I just kind of tip this up and down. You can see where this is really kind of giving a nice blend much better than what would you do without the blending solution, and that top purple is a little bit drier, So I'm just going to kind of blend that in just a little bit more. You could see where it's got some streaks now. It doesn't have that nice smoothness to it, because I've touched it once I had the ink down. So what I'm doing now is I'm kind of tipping it, and this makes the blending solution kind of flow towards that direction so you can reactivate those colors if you get that texture in there and you really want to smooth it out. So as long as you have the blending solution in here that it's wet, you can really make adjustments to this, and you could see that this is now running down here. But again, it's blend, blending still still wet so you could see how you can smooth it out. So don't panic. If that happens, so want you to go ahead and try this just a few times on your own. You can kind of cut up your ah, you put paper into little sections and give it a shot and try to try a few different colors . See what your colors will mix as on your paper, and I'll give you an idea. You know what you want to do for your your color choices for your painting. Now you have a lovely wet background. So before you start again, go ahead and just try this a couple of times before we actually do the original painting that get you comfortable with it. 5. 2. Adding the first layer of Ink for your background: right. So hopefully you've kind of played with the practice session on that wet and wet background and ready to go ahead and pour our first layer of color on the background of our works here . So I have for colors and I always say this in all my classes. Really, It's all about you and your own color choices. I'm just showing you what I'm using. And this is a nice easy mixture because you don't have to worry about everything really blending. So I'm using Pool Blue and I'm using Twilight Purple for this. So I want to start by wedding the background with the alcohol blending solution, and it will crease that dry time for you that you have to work with background. Now, we've got the masking fluid already around here, but you still need to be careful that it doesn't get too thick, or else it will believe a bleed into, um, right over the masking fluid. So just be careful when you put your alcohol blending solution down as you're adding the ANC's and I do go over this, I actually ah, put a little bit too much on here so you'll see as we go through this process here, I get a little bit on the horse, but it's okay. Eso added the pool blue and I'm gonna go ahead and throw in a little bit of the twilight in there as well. And again, if you like more of the purple go with more of the purple twilight. So I'm just kind of tipping my U boat paper here and you could see that's where my little spot was. I go over not worried about it. Just kind of tap your tissue on there. You kind of white that up and the horse is gonna be the same colors anyway, so we're not worried about it. So now I'm going to take my brush because I need to blend us in a little bit, just kind of kind of going around this entire part here, and it's still wet. So this is just kind of kind of floor it back in. Just make sure you hit the little spots that are white, kind of just spreading this around the entire horse area here in the background. And you will notice that I'm using a larger piece of paper for this and it's not taped down . This is, um, nine by 12 paper. It's just so I could make a little bit larger for you to see. You could practice doing this the first time on that fight by seven that I showed you. All right, so we have, ah, this all down. It's blended quite nicely, like the colors. Remember it. As it starts to drive, you attempt to put more color into this. At this point, if that blending solution is drying, you will get the spots and it will reactivate the inks underneath. So they do lighten. So I talent you just to put the inks down, let it go, and try not to go back in and add more ink to this at this point. 6. 3. Now lets fill in the first layer of inks on your horse: All right, So let's start with our first layer of inks on the horse, and I'm gonna grab my twilight purple here, and you can see where I'm just using the very tip of my bottle of ink just to place this where I want it. And this is just the initial layer. You need to work quickly. Eyes just sprint it before the inks dry on you because there's no blending solution with us . We're going straight with the ink, and all I'm doing is trying to get the shadow shadowed areas of my horse when where were its darker filled in with a nice light layer of this purple? And you can see how this just really kind of spreads around. Wherever I spread it, though, you'll see how it's a little bit lighter. So keep in mind when you first start getting your areas that are the darkest with the ink first, and then you can kind of take the paint that you've got and move that around to the other areas that it might be a little bit lighter, so let's go ahead and add a little bit of blue to it now, and you could see the blues even darker. So I kind of hit those areas the same areas where I want the deeper shades. My adding a darker section gives me a nice dark value, or these two will mix together. And again. I'm working quickly with this continuing to make of those colors together. Right on our paper. Yes, a little white section Jing, go ahead and fill that in and again you could see where they have that black marker. I did not use a black Sharpie for this one. I didn't have one in front of me at the time, so I grabbed just a regular marker and it's alcohol based, so it actually reactivates and you could see where it's a little bit darker in some of these sections where I touch it and the black kind of comes through. But again, I'm not worried about it, cause I'm just gonna go ahead and throw a darker shade over this anyway, with some with some black. You can see where that we little dot there blue. He's not where I wanted them, but if I just had a touch him a little bit again, the purple still wet so it just kinda blends in. Let's go ahead and add a little bit of the darker purple or darker blue on the end of the nose. Here is well, it was gonna shape at around the national areas. We're just getting a nice good coat of color on here. To start, we'll bring that hair down just a little bit more or his main and again just touching up here where I may have missed some spots. So we're gonna be using in the next section, some pitch black, and we'll get some really dark values in here next. 7. 4. Adding Pitch Black for the Mane: All right, So let's add some pitch black and the darkest valued areas on our horse. And I'm going to start with just putting a little bit on the tip of my brush here, and we're gonna hit this area. Read along with the main is and this is where it's gonna be the dark of shadows. That's where the hair, just like lies across the horse's face. And then underneath here is very dark as well. And this is where the jaw line kind of gives this whole shadow area. So let's go ahead and put a little bit of the main in here now. So I'm just getting some little wisps of the hair, and I'm kind of following the direction that that hair would be flowing. So think about that way you're using your brush work now, you probably don't want to do what I just did. Hi. Putting your pain directly over your painting. What I would recommend you do is have a plate or have a tile to the side here and put your drip your black into a paint palette first rather than directly over your painting. Yes, I'm doing on here s o I added a little bit more, and I'm just trying to get the shape of that main in here. Let's go ahead and fill in some of those real dark areas in the nostril area, and this is where the horse has some really dark areas on the face. And then along the jawline area here, these are all the main areas that are in shadow on him. Let's go ahead and fill in the harness area here. Also this and you could see where I just went over the area that I have masking fluid. So we'll appeal it off when we get ready to do that and then follow this line right along here on the July area. 8. 5. Removing Masking Fluid: all right, the next sexually doing some more details, and then we're gonna go ahead and remove that masking fluid. So I'm gonna go ahead and dark in this purple down here just a little bit more. And I had some black already on my brush still, so I didn't go ahead and clean it. I just gonna deep in this purple color by just having a little bit of black that's already on my brush. And you could see where I'm kind of blending this in together a little bit So you don't have that real sharp edge there. Some of the night is dark purple, and since we have that purple on hair tap a little bit more black and here we want to make sure that it stays fairly dark. And I'm gonna go into this little area under the eye here and just get a little bit of darkness around this area. They casillas, I'm touching it. The color underneath is reacting to it. Eso it's lightening up a little bit. It's not quite as dark is what I wanted here, so I'm just kind of waiting for it to dry a little bit more and I tend, you'll see him. You tend to move from section this section. If I'm waiting for a tap it and I find that it's not doing what I wanted to do. It's not quite thick enough for dry enough. Then I'll move on to another section, go back to its now. I'm coming back to it. You can see it's a little bit darker the second time, so that's more the look. We're looking for us. He had much darker. This is the second time I hit that, so it gives it a nice dark shadow area around the eye area. So now I'm gonna do is covers back on the inks here, giving this a little bit of time to dry. We make sure it's everything is dry on here before we go ahead and start removing the masking fluid. So I'm asking flu. It's pretty easy to real, especially on you po paper. You just want to kind of get it started on the one bottom corner with your finger, and you can just start pulling it, and you really can just kind of pull it all the way around. And then same with appear by the eye area. So the next step will be using a blender pen 9. 6. Using a Blender Pen to soften lines.: So this step we're gonna be using a blender pen, and I just want you to see where I have removed the rest of that masking fluid even up above the eye area here on the blender pen. If you don't have one of these, you don't have to go out and buy one. You can use a brush with a little bit of alcohol, and I say a very little almost dry so you would dip your brush into the alcohol tap of mostly excess weight a few seconds and you can get it so it's almost dry and you will be able Teoh lift off the paint without it blooming out on you. But the blender pen really makes it easy. Found a little piece of masking fluid in there I forgot about. So let's go ahead and get that off of there. And I'm continuing just to kind of hit those highlighted areas and the blenders just kind of softening those a little bit. You could see where each time if I pick up a lot of dark color in the paint on my blender pen, I'm wiping that off. Otherwise I'm just gonna continue to blend that color it around. If I want, I almost remove it. I kind of lift it and then bring it over here to my tissue or paper towel on the side and in White bought that excess. So it's just kind of softens these little feature, so they're not quite a stark again, wiping it off and Rick through a little bit of highlight in here. Now look at the original picture. There is some light on the horse that follows on top of that shadowed line on the jaw and then underneath. I just kind of shaping this. I up a little getting bit again. And I remember with alcohol inks, it's all about the layering. So it might look a little strange for you might look a very immature when you first start. But once you get all of these layers on, here really starts to come to life. So the next section will be doing is the I 10. 7. Adding the eye: right. So let's go ahead and add some I detail in here with some pitch black to start. Now, you may want to just go ahead and fill in a little palate here with some black instead of dropping it on directly onto your painting. If you're new with this, I'm just gonna go ahead and drop it in here because I've been using that blender pen. So it's really kind of made a little pocket for that black to sit in. I've got a lot of ink in here, and what I'm doing now is just taking my brush and lifting that out to give myself a little bit of highlight in there. This is how you could get that glassy look for your eye. So you really gonna have to play with this, wait for the ink to settle back down, and then you can go ahead and lift it out again. So what? That's drawing when you go ahead and you a little bit of snow cap here on the bridge of the nose, and it's kind of blending this in a little bits. Well, a little bit up here is well, it's a little highlight. That's a pair by the I doing this very softly. Not a whole lot of ink on here. And as I blended in, you can see where it takes on a little bit of that purple hue color. So it softens it a little bit back into this again, that still derided fairly dark. And you could see where I'm kind of blending that out just a little bit like a little bit more on here on the picture. It's a little bit more white, and I was gonna soften those edges. And by adding a little bit more of that blue, we can again blend that in just a little bit where that white is, So it softens it and you will see on right here that I have accidentally got a little spot on here. Well, just blend. That rating is This is actually a darker area on the horse as well on a little bit of shadow in here, and we're on to our next step will be adding more details to the mane of the horse 11. 8. More details on the Mane: All right, let's add some more details and some layers to this main, and you can see where I've got the black and then we've got the blue got the purple on. Whether we're going to do now is just kind of layer that, and we're gonna pick up some of those other colors and reactivate them, so this is gonna flow more naturally. And I like to have other colors in here when we do this, because you'll get a lot of nice variations and shades with us. So I'm just taking my brush with that pool blue and just kind of pulling it through and giving ourselves, um, little hairs that stick out here and there. I am just reworking what we have here and just kind of blending this in. You'll clb use this that same motion you want. Can I think of how that hair falls and it's kind of got this nice little pattern to it as it comes down, and it's really long on this one side. Then we've got this little bit of ah bang here where this kind of flips over to the side. You were just softening some of those edges you can see where I put each layer in here. You can really get the shape of this hair. Lengthen this down a little bit down here, and I'm just reactivating and pulling it through that entire section. Let's try a little bit of purple in here. A swell. You can see how you get a get a little bit of highlighting here. We'll put a little bit more gun in here. I'm always moving my brush in that direction. How that hair would fall, so it's very wispy. No, you can see where I continue to add just a little drop of ink here and there as I'm doing this, because we want to keep this slightly wet. And it's one of those things you have to kind of play with. You'll see as it starts to dry. You might get little streaks and what I'm doing here. You can see it's quite wet. Still, it's not really, really wet, but it's what, enough so that it's still continuing to move. And then you can always skip over, because is your breast starts to dry through. That gives you a nice chance to be able to throw in a little bit of shadow on the edge of the nose here, and this will give me a chance. So that doesn't reactivate the ink underneath because it's a little bit drier. So the ink is thickened a little bit, and once thicker like this, it tends not to bloom quite as much. Let's go ahead and just a little bit more purple in here. Blend a little bit of the shadow area again underneath. And remember, if you know if you're new to the inks or you're uncomfortable with dropping the colors directly on your painting, go ahead and and use either a tile or a paint palette and pour your drinks into that and use it from the tray rather than going straight on. If you're comfortable on, you kind of have a feel. Franks. You know how they're gonna work and how much they're going to spread on you. Then you can go ahead and do it right on your painting here. All right, we'll be moving on to the next section will be doing some more blending 12. 9. Adding more details with a White Gel Pen: Okay, so let's go ahead and add some more details to this. This is looking pretty good as is, but I'm gonna go ahead and show you how to use a white gel pin as well with this, if you want to give it some highlights and what I'm grabbing here is the blender pen. Really Quickly. Just want to lighten up this I a little bit. I'm just lifting again. Just a little bit of ah of highlight in here just softens. It gives it more of a glow. So now Ah, was a little bit of white just highlighting the eyes. You can see wherever you put this white in the I really can change the look of your of your animal. You can see where it placed the highlight near the bottom center of the eggs. That's very reflections going to bay. There's gonna soften that little spot up right there. So I'm gonna grab my white gel pan here and put some highlights in. It's a nice little flowing waves of hair here, and this is optional. You don't want to do this. You don't have to do this. I just like to have a little bit of highlight in here. You can see where I'm just trying to make that same flowing motion with my pen so that it looks like the main is just kind of flowing down here, almost like this little wavy motion with the with the pen and a few more wisps of hair. Here, go ahead and just highlight on the top of the harness or the underneath of the harness in the top. No, this is just like highlighting little buckle area here. A little highlight in the eye. Just a little dot riel. Bright highlight in here. That really kind of makes the I come to life almost like he's looking right at you. And I'm just looking at my picture and I'm seeing anywhere. There is more of a bright white and just hitting that with the gel pen as well. And this will soften a little bit. It doesn't tend to stay bright. Bright way. I was gonna go ahead and just touch up just around the mouth area here a little bit. And then over here on the nostrils, also down here, we'll go ahead and highlight the rest of this harness down here. So that pops out right back out and again, we'll highlight the buckle area. You can see I'm just not really drawing in the full buckle. I'm just trying, Teoh, Just give a couple little taps of white in here just to give the illusion that a buckle is there. And when I go ahead and extend that out just a little bit to the tips of those hairs here, give it a few more and maybe a little bit up here in the ear area just for a little bit of a highlight and then about the I. So if you need to pause that to look at the photograph again real quick, you can do that. Just back it up and pause on on the photo. If you need to look at it a little bit more on the highlight right along the jaw line here is well, I think that is about it. So the next step will be using a Mr Spray, but I want to go ahead and have you do a little practice session first before we do this on the painting 13. 10. Using a Mini Mister and Final Touches: All right, so let's go ahead and use the alcohol, Mr Spray, for the final touch ups. And I've slowed us down a lot. So you can see me doing this in slow motion. This is as fast as it iss one little Passover with that little mini. Mr. You could very slowly see that to start to react with the inks underneath, we'll get a little bit lighter. You could see where I tried Teoh trying not to get that center part of the horse. You could always just cover that up with a tissue if you wanted to. And now we've sped up to real time, and you could see how fast I just kind of brought that across the whole painting. So, uh, please remember that, um, when you're making your painting, you could make thes any size you want. So now you could just kind of do some little make little minor touch ups here and there. Very magical looking painting that we have here. And I really hope you enjoyed it. Um, if you want to grab your black pen, you could do a little bit of final touch ups here on if you want to sharpen this edge up a little bit. You could always go ahead and outline this with a black Sharpie, and it's just like a little a little touch ups as an artist, things you don't have to do but could kind of keep playing with your with your painting. That's always the key. That was when when to stop. So I'm just go ahead and outline this here and then maybe we'll throw in just a little bit more of the horse hair with a black and do a few touch ups just around some of the edges here. So let's go ahead and put in just a few more sprigs of that that mean a little bit extra hair there and then we'll deal about of touch ups here and there, maybe around the eye area here, just to define that edge a little bit more. And sometimes if you get the alcohol places you don't want it, you might need to touch up just a few little areas is to kind of sharpen that shape again. Bring that mean down just a tiny but more just a couple little little hairs that are kind of out of place here. I just find this end here a little bit more. Sealing Inks: And before you seal your beautiful painting, what I would recommend is doing some type of demo painting. So what I did here is I put some inks down on the put some saran wrap on the top of it makes us really cool little pattern, which makes for a great background. Or you can even really mat and frame this as it ISS thinks you can't go wrong. They're just beautiful, no matter what you do with them. But I'm gonna let this dry nice and thoroughly, and you could see that the inks will continue to move a little bit as this continues to dry . So you get there a few through Matt on that that's beautiful. Just does is if you want to take you through some Dragonflies in there, you could do some other little things to it. But for this purpose, I'm just showing you how you want to see all these. So once it's completely dry for 24 hours, what I would do is take the car Maher varnish and it's a spray can. So you're just gonna pop the top off of this and I'm gonna show you how quickly this is to seal this. It's not a real thick coat at all, so it's gonna lightly spray it all the way over, and that's it. And you're just gonna let that drive for about 15 minutes and you want to do this in a very well bedded lated area, cause it's very strong smelling, and you would go ahead and do this a second coat. Once that first coat is dry and what I want to show, you could see how glossy it is. It looks pretty. What I want to show you is if you don't use the car Morvern ish, if you just want to use another type of seal it. So this is a tile that I have here, and this is just a clear glaze till depending on what is in these finishes, the alcohol's will react to it. So for this particular one, if I spray a nice thick coat of this, you could see it reactivates the inks and they move on you. This is one of the number one problems a lot of people have in their first starting out with alcohol inks, and they ruin their pictures, so make sure you use that car more burnish. First let it dry and you could do a light coat of a UV spray, and then you could put this clear code on it. But what I would recommend is going ahead and for the U PO paper doing your ceilings, making sure you have your UV spray on top of it once that's done, and then I would always protect it behind an ultraviolet museum glass and make sure you keep it out of the sun because the inks do fade in sunlight, so good luck with it. 15. Bonus Lesson Framing Final Video: so we'll need a few things for framing. Will need a backer board and, of course, your picture a frame. And then I'll have a list at the end here, with all of our tools that will need, um And also, of course, your frame choices an eight by 10 for this particular one. But you can use any size in the same thing. Um, and then there are a few different tapes that you'll need is well, so let's get started here with our arm. Adding, what we want to do is first just kind of adjust where a picture is going to go. And I've got this perfectly set into an eight by 10 map and then I have some artists tape and what I'm gonna do with this just kind of peel off just a couple little pieces here and I'm gonna fold this underneath, tuck it in under here, and just give it a little tab so I could get that stuck down onto my backer board. Do the other side as well. This is one of the toughest things to do. You going to try to line this up with your, um, your mats and you're backing, so you just need to adjust. Were ever You need to I want to get that. I think that's pretty straight. And then just match up and make sure that your mat well fit over the top of that. All right, so now we're just gonna set that aside, and I'm going to grab the mat again, and we're gonna use some double sided sticky tape, and we're gonna take this Matt down to the backer board, And this way, it's not gonna actually stick to the painting itself, will just have it on the edges of the mat. So if anybody ever want to change these out, they can easily do so without damaging the painting. Make sure it's all taped down there real good. And then we're just gonna peel off that back edge of the double sided tape each side. Careful, not toe lift any of the sticky tape. We want to keep that down there, and sometimes they're hard to gribble edges of these. It's gonna get your nail into their poll. So are you can see where the tape additional shiny hair. We're gonna grab the backer board again, and we're just gonna line that up. Be careful here, because when she put it down, it will stick and you can't adjust it, get it right where you want it, and then you can push it down when you're happy with where it's at. All right, So what I'm gonna do next, we have our matting already to go. We're just gonna clean our glass on a frame. Really good. Make sure you get all corners and edges and you just don't want to have a little streaks of little fingerprint thumbprints. All that good stuff once you get this all together. So I'm always double checking before I do my final seals here. I'm gonna flip it over. Get the other side as well. Make sure you get your edges. You can use really any kind of glass cleaner with this double. Just get the other side as well. One last before I place it inside. And I'm just double checking for little smears. Bring my frame over and we'll pop the glass right back in here and again. It's double check. The rest of those was once this the backing Zeldin and seal that you cannot you cannot take . Take it apart again. Toe fix these smudges without having start over. So I'm just gonna take our painting, and I'm flipping it over and adjusting it in here. You can see I have little tabs on this one. I'm just kind of pushing him down again. Double checking. Making sure there's no little hairs or fuzz is, er who knows what gets in there? It looks good. So now I'm just gonna flip it over, and I'm going to push down the little tabs. Now, this hurt your fingers. What I've done before is got myself a little butter knife. Or you can use, um, a flathead screwdriver just to help push those down. Then again, I'm checking to make sure everything's clean in there, and it looks good. So now we're going to start with our, um, our backing. And this is just a linen acid free backing. You can get these usually at any stores and craft stores or art supply stores. Then they usually coming rules. And again, we're going to use our double sided sticky tape here, and I'm just gonna put the double sided sticky tape down on the back of the frame. And I'm trying to give myself a little quarter inch away from the edges. And this is for when I actually do the trimming or the cutting, and you'll see that coming up here. We're gonna put that tape down on all four sides, get a little overhang there. But we can trim that up in a few minutes in the last one here. And make sure those air pushed down nice and tight on their You don't want that toe come loose on you. And there's a little tab. I'm gonna just kind of trim these off here. We'll pair of scissors and snip those a couple other little ones on the corners. Here. You can get those. All right, on, DNA. Now, we're gonna pull off the tape once again here. One more from that one up, Andi. Just making sure those air down nice and tight and I'm gonna peel that layer of the of the tape off once again. Began there. Sometimes a little hard toe to get going. But once you get your a little male under there, you can kind of pull it out. You're just gonna pull off each one of these again, making sure that you don't pull up the tape as you're pealing off that the top layer. Right? When I grab this last little piece here, pull that off and then I'm gonna take, um, my rule of dust cover paper, and we're very careful here. I don't want to touch the tape yet. I'm just gonna kind of pull this on over over the top here without touching it, being very careful. And then I'm gonna lay that down on top here and very carefully make sure it's nice and smooth. Kind of pull that little tight, and then I'm just gonna push down on this tape on all four corners here, make sure we got that on there. Really good. And then I'm just gonna take increase all four edges here, and this will make it easier when we go toe to do our charming with our cutter. Did you have a nice, sharp, clean edge here and then we're gonna just take off this excess here with some scissors? Just cut the cut. The top of this right off. All right, so we're not gonna throw that away when say that piece for a minute, and I'm just gonna once again, Just kind of tighten up these edges, make sure that they're nice. And Scharping and clean. This will make it a lot easier with her cutting tool. So ready her cutting tool and these can be again purchased anywhere. I got this one. I think, on on Amazon. It's got a little blade on it. And you just had to be very careful in you. Line it up here. You're just going to kind of push down on that bleed. Watch up for your fingers. Dangerous with these things. It is going to give it a little light pressure and look hot rate through that. And you're gonna do this on all four sides. Say, I skipped a couple spots here, but you just kind of go back and kind of clean that up again, right back over it. Just make sure that that's down again nice and tight on the tape and just pull it all the way down. It's our last cuts and I were just gonna peel it off. It should come up very easy for you. The tape shouldn't be underneath where that is. If you put it close enough to the inside edge like is a nice clean look. So once again, I'm just double check in and making sure looks good. Make sure that tape is all their role while nice and tape down. And we're gonna move on to our little hooks. Andi, we're gonna It's wrong way. Flipper. L Nerio were just the's in about about two inches or so. I was gonna kind of lineup eyeball, and I think they look good there. So I'm gonna get my little ruler here and come down two inches and just make myself a mark right here with a pencil, Do the same thing on the other side, down two inches and make myself a little circle. And this is where and a little islets hold are gonna line up for me. So I can my screws in there on both sides of nature that they're nice, and even I have Ah, well, little screws that come with it. And when I grab my drill here makes it much easier. You can use a screwdriver, but, um, I highly recommend it. A power tool. Just get that in there, and we're just gonna drill those down in there. A little pressure. It's not getting in there real well, sometimes some of the woods for the frames a little harder than others. And I'm just gonna just this down just a little bit that moved on me. And then we're gonna go ahead and do the same thing for the other side here, Only justice again and keep moving on me. Yeah, we'll get this one screwed in there too. You can get it, Aereo. Okay, so those air both in there nice and tight, it was kind of pulling and make sure they're good, and that will be ready to with some, um, hanging wire on here. And I'm just using a This is a soft strand, which has, like, a plastic plastic coating around it. So you prick your fingers. What? You're trying to do these? I'm just gonna measure up just enough on each side. So I have a little extras, will be able to wrap these around, and I'm gonna cut this using a, um, a wire cutter. These things are great. It's a Leatherman that have been borrowing from my husband. It works so much better than what I have been using before. So we're just gonna slide these through on both ends, and I'm gonna tighten it up. Try to get it is even as I came on both sides. Pull it nice and taut and we're ready from here. It's start with one side and we're gonna make a loop entire little not in here on pull tight. And then we're just gonna wrap this around and keep going all the way around here trying getting it as tight as I can. Looping it doesn't want to stay in here and keep going around air. Just take this all the way up. If you have fun, you have too much, uh, wire hanging out the end. You can always shorten this a little bit if you need to. I think we've got a pretty good amount here. Other side I want to stay in. So we're just gonna work with blowing out here, just kind of tighten it up around and push it down in, and then we're gonna do the other side here. So again, slide it through and you're gonna tighten it, and you're gonna make a little not here. And this is a very light frame, so you could always double that will not at the other end as well. But this isn't a real heavy frame, so this this will this will be fine. We're just gonna again wrap the stainless wire around all the way going with it, and again feel free. If you need to trim some office, give yourself enough loops around here so that it has strength to it. He's gonna continue to wrap that right around you Could you'll find that with some of the bigger frames. If you want to leave yourself a little extra wire, you can do that because these could be adjusted if they need to. May. If you have, um, have it to higher to lower, going to adjust for your nail. You could do that. So I also have some stickers here and these air stickers I had printed up my local printer and I'm just gonna put those on there and then also with that extra piece of, um, backing that we have is gonna cut a little square up here and we'll rectangle and this just makes a nice presentation. If you're giving this away as a gift to someone, you could have a little nail on a little hangar to it. And that way, when they get home with it, they can just pop it right into the wall and hang it right up. So I just put those in the middle and I just kind of wrap it up a couple of times, make like a little envelope shaped for it on. We're gonna just take this and we're gonna just wrap it around the wire, and then I'll take some masking tape and I'll just attach it right to the backing wire. Here, just pull this over. Grab will grab some tape. That way it won't fall off. It's taped us up around here. Andi, they are ready to go. Hang it on. One last little final touch would be have these little little rubber silicone, self sticking self adhesive. And I'll just pop those on the bottom corners. Each one of these And this just helps. If you have something against leans against the wall, it won't scratch Your wallet gives it a nice little soft surface. And they have little felt ones of these as well and push down hard on those. And there you have it professionally framed. Well Ah! You ready to hang on the wall
