About This Class

I am excited to share some of my tips for character creation. This class is less focused on artistic approach, so students are encouraged to try the assignment in their own personal style with whatever medium they choose. This course will also be helpful to writers who want to communicate the presence of their character in writing, or if they want to commission an artist to draw their character.

I have been drawing and creating characters for as long as I can remember, so when I discovered the need for character creation and concept art, I was ecstatic. I have had so many people ask me to draw their character, but when I ask even basic questions about their appearance, they answer with "I don't know." Here, I will be sharing some of the questions I use to guide myself and anyone else who commissions me.

However, this is still an illustration class, so I will go over some approaches to things like pose and expression that can help communicate your character's personality and background.

I can't wait to see your characters!
