Ronny works at Canva as the Head of Communities and have been creating courses about Canva for over 2 years now. He runs 4 Facebook groups for Canva + his own community together with Diana. All of these are, of course, about Canva and how to become a better designer with Canva.

Diana is a Canva Brand Ambassador (a Canva Certified Creative) and creates online courses about different topics like Instagram marketing, photography, personal branding and Canva.

The objective of this class is to teach you how to create an eye catching Resume. Whether it is a resume you'll use to find a job or a resume you are designing for a client. 

We will be using Canva from our computers, and we recommend you do the same for this class as we will be doing precision and alignment work in Canva.

The class is going to be a mix between Resume theory and strategies, but also hands on practice in Canva where we will be designing your CV.

1. Introduction: Hello, everybody. This is runny and welcome to this class about creating killer resumes with can va. First of all, I want to welcome you to our home. This is where the and I and I live in Sydney. So welcome to our living room. Jenna is here with me. She is behind the camera and we are going to be teaching you today how to create a very good resume using canvas. So we'll be using Canada exclusively as the design platform for creating that resume. But the course is much deeper than just creating a resume. We will talk about the different sections that your resume must have. Based on the analysis off dozens of different resumes, we have come up with the pattern. With the trend off, what are the sections that need to be in your resume? All right, so in this course, I am going to start by teaching you by showing you 10 tips that I have observed, like 10 trance 10 do's and dont's about creating your resume. We'll start with this because it gives us a good foundation to start creating our resume, then denies going to show us and talk about the different sections that need to be in your resume. So she has analyzed a bunch of different CVS and resumes and and she knows what are the sections? What are they must have sections in your resume, and then we really jump into Canada to start designing your resume. So we will be using canvas to create a beautiful resume based on my real life resume. We are going to reproduce my resume that I have been using for the last couple of years. I don't know. I don't really need it anymore. But this is what's on the program for you guys today. And then, of course, we will talk about the class project to wrap up this class. All right, so who is this course for? Maybe you're looking for a job. Or maybe unfortunately, you lost your job and you need to be looking for not a job. Or maybe you are thinking about maybe adding the resume creation to your range of services that you sell to your clients. Whatever the reason might be, knowing how to create beautiful resumes can be an asset either for you or for your clients . So this courses for anybody really who needs a C V or who needs to know how to create one? We will be using the free version of Canada so you don't need to have Canada probe. But it is recommended that you have a computer for this class because we are going to be a diving a bit deeper into, like the nitty gritty off like alignments and precision work. So it's easier with a computer. So if your guys ready, I suggest we jump into the 10 tips in the next lecture because I think 2. 10 Tips to Create a Killer Resume: Alright, guys, let's start this course by 10 tips that I would like to give you before we jump into a designing or your resume before we get into really like the different sections of the resume. Even there are 10 tips that I researched and that I think are very important to discuss even before we get started. So let's jump right in and these 10 tips will help you definitely create a better CV, create a better resume and also have a better understanding off how you should tackle this project. Okay, so let's go. The tip number one is to show your passion. It is very important that you find a way in your resume to express your passion. You need to tell you employer, your future employer what you want in life, what you're passionate about, what your career expectations are. So, of course, here, you don't have to start like writing a novel about your life, what you want or anything like that. But you need to, through your design, through your the physical appearance of your resume and through the wording that you use, you need to let that employer know what you're passionate about this is super important, and that's my tip. Number one Tip number two is to show your impact. That's a common mistake that many people do in their resume is that they stick to the facts . Okay, So I did this. I did that. I worked for this employer for so many years, and 90 that in that. So that's good if you want to be average. But if you want your resume to stand out, you really have to focus on showing the impact every position that you will list on your resume. Every professional experience you need to give in a very succinct way, an indication of the impact you've had during this period of time occupying disposition in this company. So this is super important. Focus on showing your impact. That's tip number two, moving on to tip number three and that's a design tip. Use colors to stand out, so don't be afraid. Don't go for the black and white resume. Um, and of course, this has to be balanced by who are you applying with, like you know, like, what company are you applying for? What job are you applying for? Your resume should not be the same if you apply for a creative job or for an accountant job , right, So two very different worlds. So it is up to you to really understand the culture of the company you want to join and you apply for and to translate that into your resumes design. If I could say so, color is here a very important I like to use my personal brand color in my CV. I didn't create a lot of resumes myself, but recently, but before I did create a fair bunch of them. So I like to use colors to really add a new element off. Yes, like something different, something that the person who was reading and going through a pile of resumes will not see in every sheet something that would jump at that person's face. And that is through the use of color through the use of good design. So use colors to stand out. All right. My tip number four is to research your potential colleagues, So researching your potential colleagues will give you an understanding and could bring you an edge in the company, Meaning if I know for example, I'm gonna go ahead and apply for a position at Cannes, Va. All right, so I would like to kind of know a few people who already work at Cannes, Va. So I'm going to go to LinkedIn and start researching can va and trying to see there are some people in my network who currently work at Canada. And if they do, I will try to see if there is any way I can approach them in any way. I could maybe talk to them so that they can give me an indication off what this position is all about. What? How is the company's culture? So depending on how well you know, these potential contact that worked for the employer or the company you wish to apply for depending if you know them well, if you have already met them in person, you could go as far as maybe calling them or maybe having a coffee with them to kind of, Yeah, I gather some information about the company in the position you are applying for. If you don't have anybody in your current network that worked at that company, you can still research so researching. Today we have social media. It's like super detective out there. You can go crazy on just finding these people on Facebook, finding these people. Arlington Finding this, these people on Twitter see what they tweet about. So it's always good, especially if you know who is part of the recruiting team. If you know who is part of the H R team, the human resource is to kind of research because if you can, like hit, accord off something that one of these people who are is going to read your resume is interested about. If you know there are interested in the sports team or if you know there are interested in this particular type of literature, or I don't know this type of software that they've been using, then you could try to add one of these, like to mention one of these hobbies or skills or whatever in your application could be your resume or yoke of your cover letter. But that could make a difference because that person will see, Oh, we have something in common, like we both like to play baseball on the weekend or something like that, you know, so researching your potential colleagues, always a plus and me since I work at Cannes, Va. I have been receiving now Lincoln a couple of people who were trying to reach out to me for this exact same reason. I have one here, one named the person's name, of course, but the message goes like this were connected via linked in and it looks like we share common, believe in the power of business to make a difference in the community. I'm reaching out as I've applied for a role off blah, blah blah at Cannes, Va. Which is a roller, is currently being advertised be Arlington Super Keen Toe work at Cannes Van. I'm really attracted to the company's purpose batterer, and that person finishes the message by saying any feedback. Oh, intel you could share would be greatly appreciated and look forward, having the opportunity to meeting you in the near future. So she is reaching out, which is totally okay to try to get some more information about basically anything. That person is casting a very wide net. Any intel, any feedback would be very appreciated, so that's a very good message, in my opinion, reaching out, I unfortunately didn't have the time to answer that person because, to be very honest, I didn't know her. I've never heard of her before. I didn't take the time to do it, but she tried, and I wanted to give that person credit for trying, and I believe it is something worth trying. If you really want to get that job, that shows motivation as well. All right. Moving on to tip number five. Be confident that is super important. Your resume needs to breathe confidence, you know, like it needs to show you as an expert at your position at your role. It doesn't mean you have to lie about your skills or your competitive sees, but you need to appear as someone who knows his stuff, like you know, someone who knows what he's talking about, someone confident. So by showing your impact by showing by utilizing some strong action words and verbs, you can achieve this result off sounding super confident. So I always try to appear and to sound very confident in your resume. That's tip number five. Tip number six make every section count, so we will have an entire lecture about the different sections of the resume. Denies going to talk about this. I believe in the next lecture. But basically this point. This tip means this information that you are mentioning in your resume is not so important . Just don't include it. All right? So every section needs to count. Meaning if it's not Super 11 just don't inserted here. Your resume should contain only the super necessary information. So that's tip number six. Don't add anything to fill up. Usually it's the other way around, right. You are struggling to make all the information fit into one page because it should fit into what page? And so there is this dilemma. What could I get rid off? And so that's a good dilemma. You have to go through this. Like what? Could you get rid off on this resume? What information is not 100% necessary? So go through this. Once you have written the whole thing and try to keep only what is super Uh, this is sorry. Alright, that's tip number six. Tip number seven. Customize your resume for every position that is uber important. Super important, indeed. Because of a couple of reasons. First, you don't want to make any blooper, I would say like sending a resume and then you realize Oh, no, I forgot to change this. So I forgot to tweak this. I forgot to personalize this. That would mean immediately that you don't get the job. Second, a lot of companies, especially bigger companies, use software called eight Yes software and 80 s stands for applicant tracking system. So these are basically computer programs that will scan a resume and search for relevant keywords, especially keywords that appear in that are important in the job description. So if you apply, for example, for a copywriter position in a company, it's a news company on that copy writer position has important key word like editor in chief in the job description this this 80 s software. So this ah, tracking software will go quickly through your resume trying to find that same keyword because it means if you have Bean editor in chief at another news company, then you have experience. So then you pass the first I would say barrier off selection, the first round of selection. So if you don't customise every resume for every position, there's a good chance that your keywords are not going to match perfectly with the keywords in the drug description. So that's a no important reason why you should customise every resume for every position. I'm not saying you should change your entire resume. You should probably customize a couple of sections a couple of key phrases of key elements on your resume. So very important. Another's tip number seven Tip number eight used reverse chronological order. What does that mean? Very simply, for your experience, start with the most recent job that you've had the most recent experience. So if we are in 2020 start with the jobs that you that you went through that you worked at in 2020 and then just go backwards on, go back in time and maybe list the three or four most relevant experiences. But, yeah, start by the most recent one. So that's what it means. Tip number nine. Yes, Super important. Clean up your social media profiles. So your resume, especially today 2020 is only the beginning off the investigation, right? If the employer, the company really wants you, they will go right after reading your resume in your cover letter, they would go Maybe even before that they will go check you out online they would google you and then they they would try to find your Facebook, your linked in your everything. And they will go through that meticulously. So make sure that before you start applying for jobs that your social media are on point. So get rid of all the like the partying, the drinking, the crazy photos that the strong opinion pieces, like all of this, needs to be cleaned up and needs to look professional. OK, so pay special attention on Facebook on how people can see your profile. There's this option on Facebook. It's it says, See, as so you can observe how external people can see your profile. So people who are not your friends, how do they see your profile? So this isn't entire course. It could be like the topic of an entire course, how to clean up your social media, how to optimize your profiles and how to basically manage your online reputation. That's what it is about. But here is just going to be one of the tips. Clean up yourself in media profiles. It is super important, especially today, that we rely so heavily on these social media profiles in my case, You never apply for drug. But Canada Canada found me via social media profiles via my Facebook group. So that could be another reason. Like you should clean up your social media profiles even though you're not applying for a job because who knows? Right on, then my final tip. Tip number 10. A very practical tip. Name your fives properly. So once you have created that beautiful resume, once you have created that very motivational cover letter, don't just leave it like that and send it to the employer attached to your email and send it with whatever name the file might carry at the time. Go through the extra two seconds that it will take you to right. Click on that file and rename it. For example. Your resume should say your first name, last name and then resume and your cover letter the same. So, for example, runny. Underscore mosa on the score letter or resume because once you will apply with these fires attached to your email, then maybe someone on the other side, like in the company you applying for, will download that to their desktop, and they might not be super organized or something might happen like a phone call or something happens. And then if the file is not properly renamed, then they might see a file their under destined, but forgot to bring it to the folder or forgot to, you know, 1000 different reasons. But if your name is there, then whoever is going to open that document, they will know. Okay, that's a candidate running Hermosa. And that's his letter that his resume. So that's what I had for you guys. 10 tips Before we start designing our resume, I think these 10 tips already give you a very good sense of where we are going with discourse. We are going to create a very awesome resume. So stick around in the next lecture. Jenna is going to talk about how the different sections off your resume, Theo. 3. The Sections of your Resume: Hello, guys. And welcome to this lesson in this lesson. We are going to talk about and mentioned the different sections off your CV in order for your resume to be very complete. So let's go to the first section off your rescue me in the first section or the first part off your CV. You shall have your name professional title in contacted. So I want to go straight to the examples I have for you. And what I mean by this is like thes for section on top of your CV. And one tip that I want to give you is not just to put like the title curriculum vitae I or C v or resume. Instead of that, you can use your name. You can also add your professional title and it would be really nice if you can also add your contact details like for example, here we have unexamined of what not to do and one example off correct. Use off these dub part of the beach. The second section off your CV ah should contain your personal statement or career objective. So I'm going to show you an example here, like two examples actually here. You can see these about me section and here. Summary. So this is just like a short paragraph that can give your employer or hopefully your future employer some more information about you And like what you are all about, the thirst section is about the experience and employment history. So in this section, we are going Teoh least all the different positions that you have had and why not? You can also put some keywords like key responsibilities, skills and achievements. So here we can see some examples we have here the job title. We have the employer. We have the dates. Ah, where this person worked in this place. And we can also see some responsibilities, some achievements, and we can see some other skills mentioned in thes places or in this section of the city. Next, we have education and qualifications. So, in thes sections off your city, we should see the institution where you studied and the dates off course. We can see here the dates not next to the name off the institution and the qualifications and greats that you achieved and this least should be positioned in reverse chronological order, meaning that you should put the most recent information on top of the list. And Leslie, we can have some space for some additional sections. So here we can mention some of our key skills. Maybe you can outlying four or five. We can also mention some off our hobbies and interests, and you can also put some off your references, like I know that sometimes when you are applying for a job, they are requiring you to put some references so you can add these in a new additional section off your CV, and that's it for these lesson. Let's go to the next one, where we're going to talk about trends and inspirations for your civvies. 4. Resume Trends & Inspiration: Hello, guys. Welcome back to the course. I'm here, Indiana. And now we are going to tackle transit inspiration when it comes to resume. So I'm going to talk about general trends. And, Deanna, you are going to talk about the sign friends, Zion, respiration and inspiration. So this jump right into it. Dinner. So the first trend for me, which is a general trend. I already mentioned that in our in our first lecture chronological resumes and to be very precise, reverse chronological resumes. That means when you talk about your job experience, experience like you're different positions in other companies or as an entrepreneur, always start with the most recent experiences. First, why is that? While simply because they're probably the most relevant somebody evolves along his career or her career. And so it is normal that the last job that you've had is probably the most relevant to the human being you are today. Eso start with these most recent job experiences so we can see here a couple of like this one, for example. It starts with the most recent, which is the present job. Some of them, like the middle one here, is actually using a timeline, which could be an option for design. But I'm not talking about design inspiration. That is Dennis job at the end of the court at the end of this lecture s. So let's move on to the next trend. Yes, to write a professional summary. So what is this? A professional summary is basically a little introduction to your resume. Just kind of like what you have on Lincoln. You know, you have these two or three lines attached to your profile, and these lines are going to be displayed everywhere. Eyes kind of like your your bio on your instagram on your facebook page. So your professional summary should should be super attractive and also give one or two of your most important accomplishment. It should also be filled with your main key words or keywords related to the job offer. And so why do you need to create a professional summary? And why is it trendy to create one in your resume? Well, simply because the average person that will review your resume in a company will spend about six seconds on your resume. So that means if you don't catch that person's attention very quickly, there's a good chance that your resume is going to stay at the bottom of the pile or forgotten forever. So Jenna is going to talk about different visual techniques to get people attention. But after catching the eye with a nice visual, it is super important that the first thing people will read actually gives them a good reason to keep reading. So your professional summary has to accomplish exactly that mission. It has to give the viewer the reader a good reason to keep reading. So here we can see a couple of examples once again so you can talk about your highest qualities. You're like your most accomplished in terms of professional career, like 10 years of experience in this or here we can see extremely motivated in tow, constantly grow professionally. So these kind of strong professional skill or attitudes or even accomplishment if you have accomplished a lot of things in your career, have to figure have to be in your professional summary, all right, so that's kind of like your hook for getting people's attention. And then the next trend is to spotlight the right skills or the right key word in your resume So how do you spot light? How do you highlight these keywords? And why should you do so? I think I already mentioned it before, but there is a such thing in bigger companies and corporate companies called a T s applicant tracking software. And what doesn't 80 s software do? Well, it will scan your resume very quickly. It's like a kind of like a Google spider that's called this cross the content on the Internet. This software would just look for specific keywords that are probably closely related to the job description in the applicants resumes that have been submitted. So it is important that you make it easy for the software to find your your specific keywords, your specific skills. Okay, so you can highlight these keywords in different ways. But the most important is that when you read that job description, you understand what the most relevant keywords are. I would take a marker and just highlight all the keywords in the job description, and these keywords absolutely need to figure to show in your resume. So here we have two examples. Eso the key words that have been used, for example, for the first person is complaints and customer flows. That's probably a position someone working with customer service and the second in the second resume here we can see senior and workshop. So probably we are looking for someone who is an executive at senior level who will be able to conduct workshops. Eso very important. And you can also add a touch off color or or play with the design on your on your resume to kind of highlight these keywords. I guess that he was attending through these keywords in the previous six section that you were showing us the profession that resonate. Yes, yes, I would say so. I would probably use the most important keywords in your professional summary related to the job offer. And that's also why guys, you should always always customize your resume every time you apply to a different job offer. Because of that reason, because of the 80 s software that is Darda lager going to track your your resume for specific keywords so you might have a very good looking resume and very like, appropriate for specific role or company. But it might be very different for another company. So if you're applying to different jobs. Make sure go the extra mile and you don't have to redo your entire resume. But you have to use different keywords. That's it for media. Now, maybe you can take over. Okay, so we arrived to the part off these Listen, in which I'm going to share some design trends and inspiration that I found. Okay, so the first thing that I found like after checking maybe hundreds off cities is that I found this trend where we can see really big, big names, like a huge name, actually, in these two cases. And I think this is also on a strategy for people to remember your name. So I remember when we were recruiting some trainings for our agency and we were receiving so many so many cities and these hills, Uh, the person who is hiring remember names faster. So I think this is very important. I think this is good. Uh, yes, for example, me, My name Ronnie. People tend to write brand new it ie when it is with Why or Ronald having a big name can help people remember your Yes. I think this it's something really interesting that you found out Then I also saw something that is trending and it's having round Portrait's. So I saw so many different designs and these wrong portrayed I So it's coming a lot, and I think it helps having the like that. He sang off your TV more stylish in a way. So, yeah, this is one of the trends that they found. I have a question here. Yeah. Do you recommend people to add their photo on the resume? I guess it depends. Like in my case, when I was recruiting some paper, it was nice to see the photo because you kind of have a human connection with the person you kind of like See who the person is and is not just a paper, but I understand that in some countries, they don't use for this. So when I was living in the UK, I remember all the cities were we doubt for the study? So I guess it that depends also on the country and maybe also on the job. All right, so yeah, defense. Whether is do you have for us? Okay. So next, uh, loading bars, I found that loading parks are a thing. I saw these bars like you see here. Like for example. Yeah, We see on this kills power. Mostly we see these bars on the skills bar. So here we have, like a CEO and Google analytics is not completely full social media. They are. They have more strength in that area. He's more week or Amelia is more week on their web development. So, like that, maybe the person who is recruiting can know or understand Where are these persons? Weaknesses and strengths. So I think this can be interesting. And yeah, I saw them a lot in different cities and rescue miss Interesting. So yeah, maybe this is an idea for you to create your CV or regime in. And then I also found out this Infographic rescue Miss and you can see here like we have the big name us. I already mentioned the round photo in this case, and then we have a bunch of different graphics, maybe explaining the story. What's my story? Like all the different job experience, just experiences in a timeline, which is interesting, and then combat competences and international experience. So it's more graphic, and the person who is hiring maybe will be will remember this person is here than the other cities that don't have this Infographic. But I guess when he wants to say something, I related to this. I think it really depends on what kind off position you are applying for a job. You're applying for money and they're so company because of different things. First, remember the 80 s, the mighty applicant tracking software. They would probably not recognize the images in your resume. So you still need the strong keywords. If you want to pass that first filter. And second, if you're applying for a creative job, then this is perfect. Like this shows your creativity. This shows that you are good with graphic design with infographics maybe can va or for a shop. It shows that you have talented and you have spent some time creating this. But it could be a double edged sword. Like if you're applying for a regular job on a regular company, then it might be seen as, oh, who is this guy? We don't need. This guy like this is too much. Yeah, maybe four roles that are more into the sign or marketing or creative. So yeah, and also like as when you were saying, Maybe if you know that the company is maybe like, us more company or you know that there is some human checking, actually, all the rest amiss. That's interesting, because if software or a system that is just picking up keywords maybe is not the best idea exactly. But I found that this was more like getting my attention faster than or their risk you because you're a creative person. Yes. Yeah. So here's another example. And that's the end of the list. Nice. Last life. Alright, guys. So we hope you learn something new in this new lecture and that you got inspired by think we have a lot of good like inspiration in there. And what's next? Designing your Resume with Canva : All right, guys, welcome back to the course in this lecture. I'm going to show you how toe design your own resume with Canada. So here on screen, you can see my resume. So this is a resume I created in 2019 when Canada asked me for one. Actually, I didn't reply for my job at Canada. I was recruited by Canada. So I guess my CV here was not so important to get the position because they were offering me a position, but they were still requiring a resume. So this is the resume that I had previously done for previous jobs I had applied to back when I was working with my non profit with which is called Fair Trade Connection. So this CV is very much oriented. Fair trade, fair trade connection, nonprofit. But it is my background is really information. So we are going to go over the C V. Because while doing this course, I realize I have been doing the right thing with these resume. It kind of checked all the different sections that a resume might have, so let's go over them quickly. Eso the first section that your resume must have is your name, your professional title and contact details. So you will see that all of this is basically everything that is here on the header off this resume so we can see my my name, professional title and my contact details here, and they made them clickable. So let me zoom in a little bit on this so you can see name, professional title with a little statement here in my contact details. And you can see I left links to my social media profile to my LinkedIn profile to the instagram off Frederick Connection and also Facebook off Feterik connection recently in Canberra. I just slightly changed that. Let me show you. I slightly changed my contact details here for social media. I kept my lengthen. I added the Facebook page for federal connection by because this has grown along the years . So this is the only change I brought to this resume. But anyways, what I want to show you here is that, uh, this resume checks older section. The second section that your reserve Amos have is a personal statement or a career objective or professional summary. So this is to get the attention of people starting to read your resume started to really like scan through your resume so that they have a good reason to read more. So here, just right under my photo, where people's attention would probably be focused. My photo I have the about me section. And so this about me section clearly states who I am, what I want in my professional career, my ambition in what I am all about in terms, off work, right? So 30 year old from Belgium, I'm 39 now. So I think this is a good professional summary for me. Back back then, back in the time now I am or like can va oriented and digital media community building all these things. But back then, that was what I was really into. So that's the professional summaries. We checks that section as well. Third section is the employment history, older professional experience. So that's the section right here, professional experience, and we mentioned that this needs to be reversed chronological order. So that's founder and manager of Frederick Connection, was my lady's job after before Canada, then online instructor specializing visual marketing. These two, like they were kind of going on at the same time. So it's OK. You can choose the order in which you want to state them and then conference coordinator. All right, so the next section, the fourth section, is your education and qualifications. So education, of course, is your the studies that you've met. You might have done eso any kind of degree. You receive diploma, you have to state them here and then also quantification. I like to include skills and languages. Eso These are represented here on the lower bit on the lower part of the of the resume. And then the fifth section is kind of like additional section that you might add do. It might be some hobbies, some key personal skills that you have or anything that you really want to be on that resume that you haven't had any chance to put there. So, me, I added to things here in the pipeline. So those are kind of the projects I was working on at the time, and my personal is kids So I just give a bunch off objectives about me about my personal skills. That kind of give someone a good indication of what kind of person I am on a personal level , like human skills. So this is this the resume we are going to reproduce based on some canvas elements. So I suggest we jump into Canada and we start designing. All right, guys, we are now into Canada and let's get down to business. Let's create your resume, and we're going to reproduce my resume here. That has all five sections that we want to have in our resume. Let me zoom out a little bit to fit so you can see the resume. It's only one page. I just duplicated this page here, and I will come back to this later. But for now, this is how your resume or the resume that we will create together will look like off course. You have to fill it with your own information on here. For the purpose of this exercise, I'm going to be using this information of mine. Okay, so I'm going to be recreating it from scratch. But using my information off course, you would use your information. All right, so let's open a new tab all together. Okay? So here, going to Canada. And we are going to start with the template library. I want to show you briefly that if you type resume in the template library, you will find a bunch off resume templates. So off course, this is probably the best place to start from aunt to go get inspiration. That's what I did. When I started created this resume. I went to the temporary library. I found a couple of templates that I liked, and then I just started picking elements in this template other element in this other template until I get something I'm very satisfied with. So this is what I did. And for example, you will see this I d here with a little bowls that are kind of representing my level instead of a loading bar. Because we know loading bars are thing I'm using these dots right here to kind of show my level or my proficiency in languages. So this is an idea that I took from one of the resumes here. Off course, The layout, the columns, the photo, etcetera, all of this has been borrowed from some of the templates. So it's always nice to use and to pick the different things that you like in a template and the way to do it. You can just open a template, so you use as a template and you will simply if you like this title right here, for example, you will simply copy that you click on it. You can control, see, and then you go create a let's create and a four documents so off course, your documents should be a four. Okay, that's the standard for, like, normal sheet of paper correspondence. And I really paste and you see, that's how you can go to a certain template and just copy different elements and taste it in your own element. We're not going to do this. We're going to design from scratch, all right. But I wanted to show you the template library because this is super powerful and because you can find a lot of seats even like filtered, you can filter your resume. Infographic resumes, you can go back, and you can also search for CV works as well. See you will have the same filters. So graphic design CV. Then you get more creative stuff. So start there. If you know exactly what you want, you can do like we are doing starting from scratch and let's go. So I'm gonna close this and we are going to start designing this. So we see here the first section here that will have my name, professional title and personal details is a big frame with the photo in it. So how do you do this? You go to your elements and you said for a grid. And then once you get your grid, you can reduce it slightly like this. So here you can't have a couple of options. You can go with a photo like mine, and what I'm going to do is 47. I'm going to have the same Yes, same scale on both pages. So I know more or less what I'm doing can pull this down a little bit more so I can go with a photo. I can go with a plane. Color is really up to you. In this case. I'm going to see if I have a nice photo here. It's used this, for example, and I'm going to add a filter to this photo. OK, so I'm going to go adjust and maybe de saturate, and maybe you're so flip this. Okay. What I really like about this photo is that it shows me in a professional set up. Like I was being interviewed by the national TV in Belgium. So that was for one of the project I was running. So that waas kind of flattering, I would say. And I really loved this photo, so I used that on my resume. But of course, you can use whatever you want. In this case, I don't have the original photo, so I'm just going to use something that could work for this exercise. Okay. Like this one, for example, let me see if I have something even better. Well, yes. Did have this original photo. Let me see. All right. Here it is. So I can just take this and drop it here. You can arrange that if you want. So I'm going to make this slightly bigger, so I'm or kind of in the center. Okay, that looks good. All right. So that's the first part. Um, how we have to at some kind of layer on top of this to make it. Ah, a little bit darker. All right. So I can use this. I can create this effect by adding, if shape, direct anger shape, that is exactly the same size as my photo. So, like this covering it or and what I would do, I will go back to the photo, bring back the saturation in the adjust section, use this one, and we're going to select some colors for this resume. Okay, so if we look at this one, we can see consistent colors, which is this yellow. So I'm going to go with one color on Lee, which is going to be yellow, but we are going to use a brighter yellow, and then I'm going to use this color right here, which is the can va gray s. Oh, this is these two are going to be my main color, this bright yellow and this can back. Great. Okay, so for this rectangle, I wanted to be dark, so I'm going to use the great one, and I'm gonna add some transparency. Maybe 75 76. Bring that on top off my photo right here can give it a little bit more transparency. Maybe 70 even. May push it to 60. Yeah, that's still or right. Okay, so it's compared to the original. See? It's interesting. Yep. I can reduce the size of this slightly. And, of course, the other frame as well to give it a more panoramic kind of you. OK, that's pretty good. The next thing I need to do is to add my personal information in my photo. So I'm gonna add my photo first, which is a circle like this. Okay, make this slightly smaller. Bring it here. Okay, that is good. And I'm going to add this Cullen here. The yellow color column on the side. All right, so this is going to be another shape. Simply bring up a shape. Could be any kind of rectangular or square right now. And I'm just simply going to create that column, create that division in my resume and push it back position, push it to the back or right now and just need to make sure this is actually centered. You see, Canada gives me an indication that this is centered with my column here and change the color off this to my yellow. Okay, this starts to look good. And I need a good photo of myself to insert in that in that frame right here. So back to my photos on that. My photos to my upload. Sorry. Yep. And I'm going to add this photo that already has the little color things around it. So that's pretty good. Just that I need a different color of yellow too much this border right here. So what I'm going to do is simply grab that color with the color picker. Grab that yellow right here. And I'm going to change my yellow for this one yellow. So this is just because I had added this border to my photo. Of course, you don't have to do this. You can use whatever your brand or your dominant color is. But in this case, I want to kind of reproduce the original resume. So I'm going to be using this yellow color. Okay, good. So this starts to take shape, as you can see Now I have to add all the text boxes, this section right here, that kind of highlights my social media. So let's do this. I'm going to type are to bring another rectangle, okay? And I'm going to create. Now. This little box that comes right here about this size begins should still be able to see the reporter here holding the microphone. Kind of like this. And thats needs to let's zoom in a little bit. 200%. And that's something I encourage you to do is to zoom in on the different sections you're working on to make sure, because this is precision work, guys. So super important to have everything a line on your resume. Okay, so I will add all the text boxes later, but I'm just taking care of the layout off this resume for now. So this is good. We have our different sections. Now, one thing I see is that I have these lines right here to separate my resume into different sections. So I have three lines that are yellow, and I'm going to use these lines. I'm going to create these lines here. So how do you create light in Canada? You can surge in your elements for line, and this is okay. For example, it's in fort this line even for the line. You can change the color. OK, but how do you, like, make this thinner? You cannot really make it thinner. You can make it smaller, and then you can drag it. But it's is really difficult to make it really thin and and drag it as you wish. So the work around this is you could just import a frame. So let me go back to my elements. Okay? Let's use a great and it's fit. So, you see, we are what we are actually doing here. You see, I'm just importing a frame or great, actually. And this is much easier for me to work with. You see, in terms of size, I can I can pull it from any direction, basically. We're just trying to create the layout for our resume here. Okay, It looks pretty good. So one thing I want to show you guys, is it me zooming this part off the resume right here? This part I have to admit I didn't create this in Canada back then. Like this was created for my resume. I believe two or three years ago, I used another program to you to create this. And I don't believe you can easily create something like this in Canada because you cannot curve the text so far, or you can. But it would take a long time to do so on also, I couldn't find this shape this diagram with the different sections right here. So my thoughts were Okay, let's go to Google. Let's find some other types of diagram. And I found different things. This is actually a canvas element. You could use that if you feel like this is your thing. I particularly used this one. I like this one s Oh, this is simply made out off Try Angers and circles. So this is completely reproducible in Canada. Or you could do something like this as well. So this is really up to you. This is my original shape that I imported. So I started recreating one with with triangles. Okay, in circle. And this is what I got to. So this was super easily done. Just found a triangle with rounded angers. So for this, I believe I went to my elements and I search for triangle. Try anger around something like that. Yes, and you find your triangles here. So you just import the same triangle and then rotate them in order to achieve this result right here, put a circle in the middle and then you can do we can congrats This and then you have your keywords. You can even have another icon hear in the media. If you want to add the heart that I was using and simply type in heart and find find a nice heart that you want to have here in the middle. Okay. For example, this one use your color so we would use the dark color. For example, this color right here. You make this smaller. It could be something else. Of course, it really depends. You have to see if this is appropriate also for your for this specific job you're applying for. Okay, so I have this now. So what I'm going to do, I'm going. I have grouped into Let me show you. And this one right here, I'm gonna look it too, so it doesn't get in the way. You see, when I select, it doesn't show anymore. So I recommend you lock your stuff so it doesn't bother you. But for me at all of this was very readable, so I kept it this way. Okay, Uh, next thing you want to do, once you have your color and your font is to have your font high, Archy. So you have to determine determine a style for these section headers. Okay, so these are No, no Wester 18.7. Okay. And you have old caps as well. So this is what I decided to go for our copy one so command, see, and bring it here. So I have my section header. Then you have to decide how you align it here. It is aligned with the line here. Okay, so it is aligned with the line. And also, you can see the textbooks is touching the line. So I will make sure the same thing is going on for the other sections here. Okay, so I'm gonna bring them education, bring it here, aligned with the line and touching it. Okay. And the last ones here, languages. Then we'd have skills over there. Keep putting it at the end of the line. Okay, this looks good. Resume is taking shape. One thing, maybe that I want to change year is the color off this black right here. I would, um, group this because I realized I'm using a different black a different gray than on the original CV, which is a little bit darker. So I'm gonna go with this black here, and I'm going to change it for Remember, I was using the camera gray color. Okay. And I will apply that to all so you can take this little box here and change all of this darker, dark agree or moose black color to this conv. A great change or boom and old are changed. Okay. This is me being a perfectionist. You might not have even noticed it, but I think it's important and that we re group this as well. All right, Now we have our resume taking shape or I need to do is tow yes. To create these little loading bars that will come here. Okay, so let's start working on these. So these were actually circles or little shapes round shapes. So I'm gonna open One, of course, is going to be way too big. And I'm gonna make it way smaller, something like this. And you would have understand that we need maximum precision for this. So I'm going to zoom all the way in okay to 300 and keep reducing the size of these. Okay, so this looks about right. I'm going to start here. I'm gonna change the color of this to be yellow. Yeah, and I'm going to simply duplicated so I can use my option or my key on my keyboard option if you have a Mac out if you have a PC. So if I hold it and move it slightly like this So I'm holding my out or my option key and just clicking and moving, You see, like this and I need five of these. And don't worry too much about the spacing for now. Okay? I need five. So the next thing you want to have the exact same spacing in between these lines, right? You want to make sure this is correctly spaced evenly spaced, so I'm going to select them all. Go use the position button, and then you have this button here that says spaced evenly, horizontally. I'm gonna click on that. And Canada is going to use it's intelligence to evenly spaced these thes little boards right here. Okay, Now I can group that perfect, and I can easily duplicate that, using the same technique, My option on my out key on my keyboard, I hold it. And then I just simply moved that Or you could duplicate There's so many ways. So let me show you another way. You could just simply use a duplicate button right here. It's the same result. You achieve the same result. Okay, this looks good. Now I have my little loading bars. All I have to do is to simply adjust eso the bright color the yellow color will be when you actually reach that level, and it will be black if you didn't reach that level. Okay, So for example, my Dutch is not that perfect. And neither is my tie. So I'm gonna add some little darker bulls here to indicate that I don't reach that level. So if I go back here Yeah, that's what I have. I speak English, French and Spanish fluently, and then the two other languages are not complete. So that's how you create your little loading bars. You can use something else. You can use whatever you like, you know? But I like to use these little balls. It added a little bit of character Teoh this section right here. So I can't even just use this and make it bigger if I want, or I just I just need to make sure I respect the font hierarchy.
