1. Introduction: Welcome to the course. My name is David. I'm going to show you how to create a website and blog using is a feature-rich website builder that combines domain name registration, web hosting, and the content management system known as WordPress into one easy to use solution. In this course, I'm going to show you everything that you need to know to effectively get started with I'm going to show you how to create your website for free. How to design your website, create individual blog posts, professional backend settings, as well as the pros and cons of using So if you've been looking to get started with his impressive or website builder, this course is for you. When you're ready to get started, click that next video and I'll see you in the inside. 2. Getting started with Welcome to my laptop. Let's begin. So this is And to get started is very simple. I have to do is click on the big blue button that says Start your website. Next is going to have you create a account in. So just sign up with your e-mail username and choose a password. So let me go ahead and do that. Okay, So once you sign up to, you're going to be looking at page like this where it says, let's get your sight to a domain name. Now. But this is going to do is going to register a domain name through WordPress, which costs $18 a year. I get a free for the first year, then it's 18 hours for every single year after that, you totally don't have to do this. You don't have to register a domain name. If you want. You can just back out of this and just navigate back to You can also check your e-mail because you should have a welcome e-mail that says click to confirm it now. And so if you click here to confirm your email, what's going to end up happening is it's going to bug you into the WordPress dashboard area anyways. So it's totally up to you. So anyways, let's just do this for fun to see where we end up. Okay? Okay, so right here, I have put in a domain name and now it gives me a bunch of different extensions. And so right here I can choose what I want to register. So if I want to register that dot, et cetera, can do that. Obviously, you should go for, but again, you can just ignore all of this and just go right here and click on select for free. And so if you do this, then it navigates you to this page where you have a bunch of different options. So personal premium, business, e-commerce, et cetera. But you can completely ignore this and just click this link right here where it says start with a free sites and go ahead and do that. And then what ends up happening is it directs you back to this page right here. So that's functionally speaking, how you set up a accounts. So your website is created. And so what's going on right now is like you have your website, dot, and that's it. overview. So once you go through the process and set everything up correctly in your site is ready. This is your dashboard, okay, So make sure to check your email so you should get an email that says Welcome to the family. Congratulations. Your website at is up and running. Right now we're on the home tab in my home tab is just your hub for posting, editing and growing your website. So over here we have the site setup, and this is kind of a beginner friendly step-by-step instruction about things that you should do. So they create your say, name your say, create a menu, wants to say, et cetera. Not a big deal. Now over here in the left-hand sidebar, you have access to your stats. You can upgrade your account as need be. So right now we're on the free plan. So if I wanted to upgrade the plant is something else, I could go and do that. If I wanted to buy a domain name through, I could do that rates here. Now you're going to be spending a lot of same over here in the site section because this is where you can edit pages and posts. Now a page, it's anything static on your website, for example, wake the about page and contact page. Those are pages, post or blog posts. And posts are organized hierarchically speaking within a category. And so that's the primary difference. Media just refers to any type of media that you've uploaded like an picture, for example, comments or comments on your blog post. And that's it. Okay, then you have jetpack and then jetpack provides an activity log and backup. But again, you're on the free plan. You don't have access to in these jetpack features. Now with the design tab, you can customize your website from here, and you can also install a new theme as well. From here, you are eliminates what themes you can install. So for example, like with a shared hosting account, you can upload any type of Wordpress thing you want. With In the free account, you get access to about a 190 or so themes that you can select. They're all pretty good. But you can't install your own theme. So if you want to install your own theme, you have to be on deep business plan. Okay? And so now we have plugins, import, export, same deal. So you can't install plug-ins unless you're on the business plan, not the free plan. And then right down here we have managed so hosting configuration domain names. Again, this is for like if you're on an e-commerce plan or the business plan, you have your domain name, sheep or GoDaddy, et cetera. That's what this is four. And the last is you have WP admin. And this is very, very helpful because now you have two options for how you want to like control and design your website. You can navigate everything from this dashboard right here, which is your WP admin dashboard, which I personally like US and prefer. Or you can still create your safe from this interface as well. It's totally up to you. These are just two different options. I personally like this one because it's just logically it makes more sense to me, but it's totally up to you. You can still access everything that you need. For example, like you want to change themes, you can just click over here to navigate to themes. If you over here in this dashboard, then you just do the go to appearance and then go to themes right there. So it's functionally the same. It's just presented in a different way. Wp admin is typically what most people use to manage their WordPress website. But again, it's your say, whatever you feel comfortable with, you can use. Okay, So let's begin the process of customizing our websites. So we're gonna go ahead and ignore this section, this my home setup section, because this is for complete beginners who don't have any sort of process to follow and kinda need to be told what to specifically do next. Anyways, we're gonna go ahead and click on site title over here. Now this is where we can view what our website looks like. And so you can view your URL dot You can click on Visit website. Now over here you're going to notice it says a launch site. You're gonna be like, isn't there a site already watched? Well, technically, no. Because you're allowed dinner, able to view your site. But if you've logged out, which are webs, it's going to look like it's this. It's going to have this big coming soon splash page. In order to get rid of that, It's very simple, we just want to say, now I would recommend launching your sake when it's ready to be launched. So let me just back out of this. Now if you're curious, is like how do I change the URL structure? Like what if you pick something you're like, actually, I don't like that. I'd like to change it to something else. How do I do that? We have to navigate to where it says upgrades, open up, then click on domain names, okay? And right here is where you can edit your domain name. So if I go here, then I can edit settings. Then this is where I can change these sites address. Okay, now let me go back to this. Now if you click on this and add a domain to the sites, where you can do is that you can have a custom domain name. But please note that you can't have a custom domain name on the free plan. You have to upgrade to the personal plan in order to have a custom domain name like your, if that makes sense. So if that's important to you, then you got to upgrade because you're not allowed to do that on the free plan. But if you just want to change it instead of it being this dot to change to something a little bit, something else that you like more, you know, again, just navigate to domain names, click the little dots over here, Edit Settings, and then there's change it to whatever you want that's available. 3. Essential Settings for Your Website: Essential settings for our WordPress website. So let's continue with customizing our website. We're going to say goodbye and farewell to this dashboard. It's too simplistic and so I definitely recommend navigate to the bottom, go WP admin, right-click open in a new tab. Then over here just click on a visit sites. And so you said your site open in one tab and then you shave your dashboard over here. This way you can kind of just hop in, reload the page whenever you make a change, you just want to get eyeball it. Because it just a little bit easier because we've come up here. This is the thing that you have to click on to navigate back to your website. And what this does and navigates back here and you have to click on visit, say anyway. So that's why I say, keep this open and then boom, I navigate everything in here. Okay, so the first thing that I want to do is I'm going to change the theme. So let's go to Appearance, and let's go to themes. Now, here is where you can navigate and pick the theme that you like. You can select from trending, popular and newest, all free premium, okay? And that's it. So we're on the free plan. So again, like you can't upload your own custom theme. You can't buy a theme like the Divi theme. You have to be on the business plan to do that. So you're stuck with just the free themes that come with this in with your account. Now not all free, some more premium actually that you can take advantage of. Anyways, I just recommend like click on trendy and click on popular. Take a look and see which one do you weigh? Click on free and just do your best and kinda sort through and play around and pick the one that you like the most. So I'm gonna go to trending. And I'm gonna go ahead and click on this, activate the 2021 theme. Okay, So I successfully just installed the 2021 theme. I'm going to X out of x. I don't want to customize it yet, but anyways, let's go back here with three load or say Can't take a look at it. Alright, that looks, that looks good. Weibo, it does need a lot of work that we need to adjust things with. Not a big deal. So that's number one. Okay, pick the theme that you want. Next. You want to navigate to where it says Settings, okay? Settings first you want to navigate to general, right here, say title, that kinda changes this right here. So you can either add a logo or you can have it be a text logo completely up to you what you want to do. A tagline. A tagline is just like texts, it'll appear underneath the title. I typically don't use a tagline. I mean, like I could if I wanted to, but I literally never like I like the logo website grey probe, that's it. I don't want a tagline to appear underneath that, so I want to clean logo. So that's why wouldn't really worry about putting anything a tagline. Anyways, you can adjust the time zone, date format, et cetera, as you see fit. Okay, so come over to writing. Okay, So writing right here we have format and convert this kind of texts into emoticons. Yeah, so definitely would leave like that. Now the default post category is uncategorized, okay? So when you publish a blog post has to be under a category. So again, let's just open up web, say create a was navigate to the blog. There we go. There we go. Okay, so these are my categories on this, say like content marketing, domain names, tutorials, web hosting, etc. And so you actually have to create those categories. So if we come over here to post, we go to Categories. There we go. So we have one category. Now I recommend creating like 34 categories max that you want to have on your site. So whatever your site is about. So I'll just call this maybe vlogging cameras, okay? And we'll say add new to, add a new category in here. Okay? So we'll say vlogging gear will say we're making a website on vlogging for example. Again, we do, go ahead and do that. And then I'll say like tutorials. There we go. Okay, great. And then I can come over here and jump into m categories in change it to something else so I can click on quick edit changes from UNC categories to make. Maybe we'll just call this category of see like YouTube for example. And I'll go ahead and click on Update category. And there you go. So as you notice that I can delete this and delete this and delete this. And I can't delete this because this is sets within the settings over here that we just, I just showed you under the writing that you have to have a default post category because all blogposts most be categorized in a category you don't have any choice. This just something that you have to do and that's it. Okay, so go ahead and sit up a couple of different categories and you're good to go. And I definitely would recommend three to six, like three to seven, don't not ten, and not to. Just a few categories that make sense for your website. Okay, so let's come over here to reading. Okay, so reading settings your homepage. Now by default we should already have a go home page sets, but if you don't, then you can set it here. But, you know, I have the home as the homepage post page select. So I'm gonna go ahead and select the Plogg to be the post page right there. Now, let's come down here. Site visibility, massive, incredibly important, allows search engines to index the site. Yeah, okay, by default with, This is selected where it's discourages search engines from indexing the site. You must change this. Otherwise you're not going to get search engine traffic, okay? Alright, so related blog post. Now with your site, you get really a blog post for each blog post. So for example, we open up this, let me just go ahead and open up this one. All right, so like at the bottom of this blog post, we come all the way down here. There we go. So here we go. So blogposts bug was blog post. That's what this is. And so use a large, visually striking image. Good. Show the category if you want. I personally would not show the date. So I kinda would just remove everything and just show the image and the date, the image and the title of the image right there. And just leave it at that and then come down here and make sure to click on save changes. So everything is sets. Okay, and now we're ready to design our website. 4. 4 Homepage design: Let's customize the homepage of our website. So this is the homepage of our website. I went ahead and change that horrible green to gray, so it looks a lot nicer. And I want to show you how I did that. So first off, navigate to appearance and then open up customize. And there he goes to the customizer role load. And this is where in general, within WordPress you can adjust colors and font styles. Now if you open up, say identity, this is where you can adjust the site title again, just like you didn't WP admin. Over here is where you can add in a logo. So if you click it, then you just drag and drop a logo that you've created right there. And don't forget, right under here is where it says say icon. So if you select say icon, again, you can change the icon. Say icon is this little thing right up top there where it says the w. That's actually really important because when people visit your site, it's going to save the site icon on their mobile device. So you just want to have something that Brant brain double for your sites. Okay. So let me just navigate their butts back on this. Okay. Now colors in dark mode with the 2021 theme. This is where you can change the background color. Again, this depends on the theme you chose. Ok, So I went ahead and just select the color and I selected a light gray color. Now dark mode support depending on the theme. Again, dark moon means like if someone has their phone set to like a dark mode. So when they're visiting your website, it's shows a specific mode That's a little bit easier on the eyes of someone's laying in bed at night trying to read your website for some reason. Okay. Anyways, background image, that will background image does exactly what it sounds like, adds a massive background image to your entire website personally on a 2021 theme, it doesn't work. So again, I could keep saying it depends on your theme that everything's going to have the same options. Okay? And so then we have menus. You can adjust your menus from WP admin, which I recommend any of your content options in this really helpful because you can hide post details like the date in the categories which I do recommend. But we'll get that later when we begin the blog post section. Back on this. And then you have your widgets. Okay? And so here you can add widgets. So add widgets to appear in your footer. Now what is that? A widget is just a little thing that you can add to your website. And so your website and your theme is going to have different sections that are digitized. So in the 2021 theme, the footer right down here is digitized. So I can add in a widget here. Again, like I keep saying, depends on your theme. So some will have a widget in the sidebar over here. Some will have in the footer, some won't have any widget sized area, just depends. Okay, so it's back out of this. Okay, Then obviously homepage settings, just like WP admin homepage, it says home is as the homepage, Blogs says the blog post page, et cetera. Okay. And that's it. Okay, That's all I recommend doing. Kind of adjust the colors and that sort of thing as you see fit. And, and that's it. So that's a backer. This, now I want to adjust this homepage. Now, you have a few different options. So let me go to settings, let me go to open up the reading tab and let me click on pages. Now if we're in the reading tab, we have home says the homepage now, home is an actual page on our website. Okay. And so home is right here. Okay. Right here we have Home and go ahead and just trash that. Okay. So home is what we have said. And so if I want to adjust home, I can just click it. And then it'll open it up. There we go. So now you can just edit as you want so you can change the images in and out. You can go ahead and delete things. So for example, if IQ like this layoff or whatever, but you want change the image, you can do that. So like all you have to do is I click on this image right there, then click on Replace, and then open media library and then select your own image to replace it with something that you like. And you can just do that with both of these. Or you can just delete everything and start from scratch if you want, or you can come back. Okay, let me go back to All Pages. Or you can just go back and add it, add in a completely new page. Now one thing that's really cool about is it comes with default templates that you can just install on your site really quick. So let me go ahead and show you that. Because if you go like the self-hosted route with a blues are safe ground, et cetera. You can go to add a new page. You have to add a new page that's completely blank and from scratch like this. So you get a, just a blank page and you start from scratch. But with, it's really helpful where it comes with templates for your About page templates for your blog post page templates for a gallery page templates for services, templates for contact templates for homepage is awesome. It's awesome because it makes designing a website really easy. And so right here, just click on whatever one you like. And it's gonna show wake what it actually looks like would look like on your website. So we can come here like we click on this and see what this one looks like or maybe this one looks nice like that image. I could replace it with my own image and change it and make it something a little bit more impressive. Over 10. Okay, so like right here, this looks really nice. That white image looks good. Right down there. So you just go through this and you just pick the one that you like. Okay. So we come here to haver travel. You know, it's really nice so you can just select, self-select the one that makes the most sense for you that you want to add to your sites. So like this looks good. Anyways, I think I'm going to have the Overton in, so I'll use the Overton, the layouts. All right, so now that we've added over 10 over tins, now in drafts we have to publish it because it's not added to your website yet. So right here you just jump in and you change things as you want. So this is your H1 title tag. So you gotta make a decision. Let me go ahead and click on Preview. We're actually on that. Let me go here and we go to permalink when the open-up, that's okay. So first off, let me go and inspect. So this is going to be your title tag. So I wouldn't recommend having this be H1 here. Probably want to make this your H2 tag. To go here. Make this your H2 tag. Why H1 means header, so this is your header, okay? So your options are either just to delete this and just don't have this here at all. Or use this as the header. Again, it's up to you. So I'm just going to leave this here like it is. I'll just call this like vlogging, Made Easy, whatever. All right, So if like from breakfast, whatever, I'll just leave this like it is. Alright, so to adjust things, you just click it. Okay, now you're editing the block so you gotta make sure that you're on the block section because you have page, page adjusts everything for the page. We want to adjust the block. So here you can change the font size if you want extra small, large, extra large. However, you want to set this up like extra large. There are maybe I'll make it huge alchemy, but maybe not huge, extra-large be even come over here to like, custom size may go a little bit bigger like 45, whatever. Now we have the link right there so we can adjust this if I want to link this off to something. So if I want to link this to like, okay? Then if you link off your website and make sure it opens in a new tab, hit Enter to add in that in. Okay, so now we have an image right here. And so with the image, we can adjust this image as we want. So I can, this is right now a cover block. So you're like, what's a cover block? Let me go ahead and show you. I'll start a brand new section. Let's come all the way to the bottom right there. Okay, so actually let me go here. Alright, so let's add in a cover image just for, just to show you how that works. So we cook your cover. Now with the cover we can add in media, media library. So drag and drop a cover image into place like they're like, that's and there we go. Okay, so now we have a basic imagery here and so we can adjust things as needed so we can change how it's laid out from my align center align, right? I can make this full width. And that's functionally how this little sections working there and they go ahead and let me remove that block. Okay? And so like this is a cover image and it provides a nice little way to like break things up. So make sure to click on it and then make sure you have black selected. And over here is where you can change things. So it, for example, fixed background. If I don't want that repeated background, et cetera, then we have the color and we have the opacity. So I can adjust this as needed if I don't want any opacity, et cetera. So let me just go ahead and do that. And let me go ahead and remove that block. Okay, And so that's kinda like what a cover images and that's how a WordPress functionally works. We can just add in blocks. So I can say like view our courses. I could just say something like that. You can type whatever you want. If you really liked the way that this image is laid out. Quick thing is just click on Replace open media library. And then you can kind of select the Media Library and select the image that you already have uploaded, for example, and just change it as you see fit. Okay, and again, you want change it right here, come down here and add an opacity if I want, make it a little bit easier to read, changed the color, little things like that. Now if we take a look right here, now we have a bunch of different blocks. We can kinda just jump in and then you can change the text as you want. Now one thing that's also cool about WordPress is like you can highlight the whole section right here, and then I can press this up and down section right there. They kind of move things as I want so you don't have to worry about copying and pasting things into place, you know, that sort of thing. All right, so now we have a blog post section still a ways from the blog post. This is being powered by the blog post style block. So again, WordPress works with by way of blocks. So for example, let me just come down here. If I was to type in say blog, then we have blog post right there. I can just add in my blog post by clicking this button. And it's really that simple. So anyways, I kind of like the way that this is looking. Good. Me go ahead and publish this. There we go. Okay, so now this page is live on our site. So let me go ahead and click on the w. Let me go back to All Pages. All right, so now we have our homepage, but now we need to set this as the homepage. So go back to your settings, go back to your reading. Okay, now go here to home and then select the page that you want to set as your homepage. Okay, let me click on save changes. There we go. Okay, let me reload. All right, and so now we have a new brand, new homepage, okay? And that's functionally what you can do. Adjust things as you, uh, once for each different section. And that's kinda like how you can make a quick custom homepage really easy. Just go to the Pages function, add in a new page, select a template that you like, maybe adjusted just a little bit as you want. It's really that simple. And one thing to note is that because I'm using the 2021 theme because I have a dedicated homepage set, it automatically hides the page title. So that's why you're not seeing like the page title right there. I definitely would recommend coming down here and making sure that this is actually one in knots each two, okay? Because since this is set as the homepage, just by default it's going to hide the page title. So let me go ahead and update that and let me reload that. Okay, there we go. So let me just make this a little bit. Let me make that a little bit bigger. Huge, okay, not that big. We'll just reduce the size just a bit. There we go. Okay, let me go ahead and reload this. And I think that looks really nice. One title tag for the header for our website. 5. Designing Your Blog Archive and Menu: So now you have a good idea about how to use different templates for specific pages. And so I just recommend doing that for the blog page about contact page, et cetera, going forward. So just jump into each of these pages. So let's navigate to our blog page. Now this is what our blog post page looks like, OK. And now it looks like this with this specific column design. Because over here, Let's go into our settings. Let's go into reading. We have a blog page sets. Okay? So when you set the post page is just going to have this type of structure where it's just a blog roll. That's what this is specifically called. But if you want to have a more fancy design per se, you can do that. So again, just follow the same process as before. So go to pages and again, go to add new. Okay, so now you have your option to have a blank layout and then you can customize using the Gutenberg editor as you want. Or you can come down here to where it says blog and then just use any of these templates. And they all look really nice. So we can just come down here and I like that looks good. This one looks nice. Like this one looks nice. Okay. So I think I'm going to, I think I'm going to use this one right here. I kinda like this with this call to action right there. And then we have the, a blog post that we have right there. So let me go ahead and use a blog layout. Okay. So let me call this blog too, okay, Just so I know. And so now the URL slug is blog to kill me, go ahead and publish. Okay, so now if I come back to my all pages, Let's go back to the dashboard. Okay, So now if I come to settings and I come to reading, and then I come here blog and I select block 2. Let me go ahead and click on save changes. Let me reload the site. Now if we click on blog when we reload it. So now that I have, there we go, okay, now let me note now that we have the blog post page sets. Now we have to add change the menu item right there, so it's sprite now it's still set to blog. Okay? And so to change the menu item is very easy. So again, you just have to come up here to appearance and then come to menu's. Alright, and so down here I can change this and just change it to a different page so I can go ahead and remove this. And I click on Blog where I can view all blog posts too. There we go. Okay, and then we'll just call that blog. And I'll click on Save Menu. And there we go. Okay, so let's go ahead and reload the same. Okay, so let's navigate over to blog too. Let's click on it. Alright, so now you notice that, hey, it's still has this archive. Leo, what's the deal like I have this big gorgeous doesn't. Well, that's because let's go over to settings. You have it sets. Go here, reading. There we go. You have it set to the postpaid right there. So you have to just go to this, unselect it. I know it's a cork. That's just a little quirk of WordPress. So I'm showing you this section. So just go ahead and take care of that. So click on Save Changes. Don't have a dedicated post page because it just doesn't work correctly. Now if I reload the site, There we go. Okay, so now we have blog too. We have a dedicated blog post page. It looks really good. Now, obviously, I don't suggest using the URL of a blog dash T2. So what you'd want to do is you want to navigate to Pages. Then just go ahead in a trashed your original blog post page. Okay, then go into block to just edit it. And then just change the URL structure. So it makes more sense. There we go. So change that and I'll change that. And then I'll click on update. And that's it, adjusting your menu. So as I alluded to earlier, this is your menu right here into find it. You just have to go to appearance and then go to menus. And then right here, this is your menu. You can add and delete items and you can change the order that things are appeared in. And you can also create sub item. So for example, like if I have a home link right there, I can make the about page and this will be a drop-down for example. So I can make a long drop-down. It can make this be a drop-down of this, etc. Now, in general, I suggest having like four to six items. I'm not a big fan of having a home link because people can click on the logo typically to navigate back home, but it's totally up to you. I'm just going to leave it as is. Okay. So over here you have your pages where you can add in different pages as you once, okay? And that's it. Okay, now when you click on Manage Locations, we go ahead and click on Save. Let me click on Manage Locations. So right here you have a primary menu and you have a secondary menu. And so secondary menu, again, you can just go ahead and create a secondary menu. So you can click on this button right there where it says, use a new menu. And then you can go ahead and create a new menu. And so your footer menu will appear in the footer down here if you like. So it's totally up to you whether or not you want to have two menus or one menu, et cetera. So I'm just going to leave it as one menu for this tutorial. But that's in general, that's how you kind of just go about changing things. And in general, what I would suggest in the menu bar top would be like a blog about contact resources. Just again, four to six links next, you don't want to overdo it. You don't want to give people too many items to click on. Because then people don't click on anything, it becomes overwhelming. Just leave it very simple like this. For items that would be totally fine. 6. How to Create and Design a Logo and Favicon: How to create a logo and favicon for your websites. So you can just use the basic text logo like this, or you can go ahead and create a dedicated logo if you like. And then we're going to update the favicon, which is this little w symbol right there for WordPress, you want something to be our own website. So many ways. Let's first begin by going to You're gonna have to create an account. It's completely for free. So just go ahead and login. Next. I want you to just search for YouTube, thumbnail or whatever. Just, you just want it, you just want a blank section to edit textbook. That's it. Okay, So this is YouTube thumbnail. So I'm just gonna go to text. I'm just going to go to heading and I'm just going to type in the name of the website. So whatever the name of your website is, okay, So we'll just pretend that this website, it's called vlog a four. Okay. Log authority. There we go. So I'll make that a little bit bigger. All right, Let's highlight this. I'll come over here. This is where you can check, can't change the font style. So maybe I'll do Poppins lights. There we go. I'll maybe I'll make this bold right there. So it stands out a little bit more. Okay, and I kinda like that as well the way that looks, maybe I can change it to pop in some medium. I think that would look a little bit better. Yeah, that looks good. Okay. Now, the lettering is actually a little too far apart for my liking, so I'm not going to click on this where it says letter. I'm just going to click on negative 66 just to put everything a little bit together. And I think that looks really nice. It looks like a very simple mobile. So we're just going to make this nice and big. There we go. Now go ahead and click on Download and download as a PNG. There we go. All right, let me just drag and drop it over here. Alright, so let's open with now. Just use any image editor you want and just go ahead and crop, okay, cropped all the whitespace away. We'll bring that down to there and bring that down to there. There we go. Okay. And so that looks good. We navigate that and then crop that in. All right, good. All right, so it's a little bit big, actually not hurt a little bit bigger. That's a massive logo. So let's just reduce the size just a little bit. Okay, so that's a little bit more easier. I'll just, I'll just leave it like that. There we go. So click on X. Okay, I'll save it. So the goal is just you cut out the whitespace. That's all I want you to do. Now once you will goes like this, Let's remove the weights of background. So all you need to do is go to Remove BG upward. Okay? So Remove BG upload. Here we go. So you can remove the background of any image. So we're going to remove the whitespace. So go ahead and upload image. I'll click on that. There we go. Alright, there we go. Remove background in. That looks great. So let's go ahead and click on Download. All right, drag and drop that into place. And there we go. Okay, so that looks great. So let me go ahead and rename this logo. All right, There we go. Now let's go ahead and open it again with our image editor. And we just want to reduce the size like the logo is not a big thing. The logo should be pretty small. So I'm going to shrink this down to like maybe 250, about that size. There we go. 250 by 57. Yeah, that looks good. Click on Save. There we go. Okay, so now we have boom, we have our logo, our logos ready to go. So let's go ahead and create a favicon for a website. So fabric consist little image up top there. And again you can follow the same process. So again, we'll just click here deletes. Then you want to go to elements, okay? And then here you can just type in something that's related to like what your website is about. So if I add this was a vlogging website, Cambria later website. There you go. Okay. So it's like Okay, I'll take this. Yeah, that looks fine. I'm not picky. No, there we go. Okay. So let's go ahead and download. And again, just do the same exact process. So we'll download the image there. Boom, it's open it up. We edit the image as appropriate or the crop everything in. There we go. And there we go up that much. Okay. We've a little bit more space there. Okay, good. Now let me go ahead and resize this. So your fabric and typically is going to be a very, very tiny image like 99 by 99 pixels, something really small like that. I'm just going to make it a little bit smaller so I can just upload it to remove background. Let's go here. Let's go to Upload image. Let's go that, open that up. Awesome, great, looks good. So let's go to Download. And this is why like remove background because it's CL, sophisticated is it's like it uses machine intelligence, so it removes this background, but it kept this. I really like that. Anyways, let's go here. There we go. Okay, so follow the same process. Okay, so what's, what's reduced this in file size? Let's make it nice and small. So let's go down to literally like a 100. Yeah, really like a 100. We want this to be like a 100 pixels. There we go, 90, 95, 85. Yep, That's fine. Alright, and they go ahead and click on C for that. There we go. Let me call this the baby had a con or fav favicon. There we are. Okay. Alright, now it's time to upload that to or S8. So again, back to your dashboard. And now what we want to go in and customize, okay? So to begin customizing, you have to go to appearance and then you have to click on customize. Okay? And now we want to navigate to say identity. And then we want to click on Select logo. And we want to go ahead and just drag and drop our site logo into place. That looks good. Okay, so give it alt texts. So we'll call it like log. Log authority. There we go. We'll click on Select, and we'll just make this full size right there. Actually, I'll click on Skip cropping. Okay, There we go up. So now we have the logo at the top right there. All right, so now display site and tagline. I'll uncheck that. There we go. And that's it. So now we just successfully uploaded the logo and now come down here and then say icon again, select Save icon. And again, same process, just drag and drop it into place. And then removed the title there. And alt text should be the title of this image. So favicon will click on Select. We'll say skip cropping. And there we go. Okay, so go ahead and click on save changes. And that's it. Okay? So that's in general how you can quickly and easily create a logo and a favicon for your website. 7. How to Create Blog Posts with Now it's time to start writing a blog post for our website. And so this is going to be a quick overview about how to blog properly. So I went ahead and already created like a draft posts, but you can just click on Add New to create a new blog post. Now your blogposts have to be organized within categories. So I definitely suggest taking a step back and thinking about like three to six categories that are appropriate for your website. You don't want to be creating a blogposts than putting in a random category. You don't want categories like thoughts or random. You want categories that are intentional and specific and descriptive of what your website is about. For example, like on web secret protocol mn, Here we go. These are my categories right up top there. There's only five. It's literally that simple. Okay, It's not ten, not 25. That's it. And so do something similar. So anyways, let me just go ahead and open up this blog post. Okay, so blogging is very intuitive and easy within WordPress, up top here is your header and your header is your H1 title tag. So up top there, okay, We come back up top there that your H1 is the title of the blog post. Then as you go about publishing content, you want to make sure to break it up with H2 title tag. So this is a subheading is a subsection of this main title. Then you also have access to h3, h4, h5. And so an H3 title tag is a sub-heading of each two. For example, if we come down here, for example, right here we go. Okay, so cyclin Plans and Pricing this h1, H2 title tag. Then right here it's start-up it because I'm going into something specific about this section. So this is h3 title tag. And so that's all you have to do, okay, Literally that's it. So just create content, use H2, H3, title tags, break things up. Now also you want to pay attention to your paragraphs. You don't want massive walls of text. So break it up like little paragraph space, little paragraph space. This is not English class. Yeah, It's okay. It's like you want, you're not publishing your research paper, you're not right, you're not writing for English 101. To make things readable, you need space. So just write like a sentence or two in space. Like literally this is just two sentences than space, intentionally done. So it's easier on the eyes to read. Okay, So just go through that and then don't just publish content as you know, as you see fit as you need it. Now. Now, you should always be creating content that people are actually searching for. And that's called keyword research. There's lots, I have lots of videos in the shin about how to do that. But in general, like you want to find, like for example, this is one of my favorite plug-ins. So if I do like vlogging camera, we'll just do that. If I type in vlogging camera, this is called Keywords Everywhere. Vlogging camera for beginners, backfired and best cheap vlogging camera, et cetera. These are kinda piece of content that you could potentially create for your sites. And so just go through the process and just like find content, find keywords that people are actually looking for and create the best in class. Content meaning like, take a look at what, what's ranking make something that's better. Okay, anyways, so let me just reduce that now. Oh, one little thing, the permalink, I personally like to keep my permalink short and sweet. For example, the title of this page is safe ground hosting review over eight are still an excellent lamppost. It's not safe ground hosting, review or grade or still an X and blah, blah, blah. No. I shorten it and keep it short and sweet and readable. It's not essentialist and elegant deal breaker, but it's just a personal thing that I like to do. Okay. And so I would just go through that and just shorten it the permalink as appropriate. Now one important thing is the featured image. So we're here with each blog posts. You can have a featured image to be associated with the blog post. So right here, these are all feature images that are associated with my blog post. Okay? And so if we open up the black hose, I personally don't like to have an image on the actual blog post. That's just me, totally up to you what you want to do. And you are probably going to be a little bit limited in terms of your flexibility with that. So that's just something that you got to understand. But anyways, feature image. Now where to get future images for a great starter spot is Unsplash. Unsplash has a lot of free images that you can take advantage of and totally upload to your website. And so one little thing that you gotta make sure. So let me just type in camera, okay? So if I open up this image right here, this image is like a 10000 by 10000 pixel. It's a massive image. Whenever you download an image from unsplash, just make sure to resize it. So literally, like reduce the size of your feature image does not need to be 2000 by 2000 pixels. That's too big. Let's just go ahead and resize it. So any of these, and they go here, set featured image in, let me just reduce that and let me just drag and drop this feature image into place. Okay, there we go. Now I can delete that. All right, so alt text, alt text should describe the blog post. Okay, So the all text is kinda like, uh, just helps describe the image in the blog post for search engines. So we'll just say logging camera will just say that. Let me go ahead and click on select. Okay, so now I have a feature image set. And there you go, Okay? And that's it. And that's it. That's really all you have to do with blogging. Just create content, use H2, H3 tags and make sure that you add feature images to your website because it makes it more visually appealing. So let me go ahead, click on publish. There we go. Okay, so let's go ahead and go to permalink and let's take a look to see how our blog post is looking. Okay, that looks really nice. So we have logged in camera review. Then, boom, we have the blog post right there. Good social media links, H2 tag, the title tag, et cetera. And that is it. 8. Upgrading Your Account Overview: Plans and Pricing. So I just want to give you a quick overview of the different pricing plans, my thoughts, pros and cons, et cetera. Okay, So right now we're on the free plan and when you're ready to upgrade, your gonna upgrade to the personal plan. And the advantage of this is that you can have a custom domain name, so it's no longer going to be your domain name dot You can actually create it like so it's your And then you get best-in-class hosting, which is unlimited hosting at just $4 a month. I think that's great. But the only downside is that, well, a website like Blogger for example, there's no personal plan that bloggers completely free. You can just get a custom domain name like Nim cheaper, GoDaddy, and then use your own custom domain name and that's it. You don't have to pay for anything. So I think it's a little bit of a deal breaker that WordPress forces you to pay $4 a month for something as simple as getting a free domain name. So just, that's just something to be aware of if you really do want to create a personal blog, I definitely recommend checking out blogger and said then using the personal plan here, but again, totally up to you. Now, one other thing I have to bring up is the free domain name for one year. Now free is not free, so it's free for the first year. But then after you have to pay $18 a year because domain names you have to pay for every single year. So you're better off using something like Nim cheap, for example, me just open up being cheap. You're better off using something like Nim sheep, where domain names are 88 a year, okay. Wordpress is $18. So it's quite expensive. So yeah, It's free for the first year, but then you end up paying that free, free price point for the first year in your second year pricing plan, then you just keep paying an excessive rate above and beyond. Anyways, now we have the premium plan right here best for freelancers. I'm still not that impressed by this plan means that the only thing that you get here is that you have unlimited premium themes. So I mean, I think most of the themes that you get with WordPress, even the free plan are acceptable. So for me it's like what the theme is like once you pick a theme, gets your theme. We're not switching around. For example, like I have, I use theme of phi ultra here on website create protocol. I'm not switching the theme. That's such a pain like so it's not, for me, it's not a big selling point. The goal, while I've access to multiple themes, okay? Well that you're not going to functionally use, that you're gonna pick a theme, design your website, get happy with it, then, leave it be switching themes. It's not something that you really want to do that much. And then obviously you get to remove WordPress ads at both of these, these price points. Now business, this is great. So businesses incredibly expensive at $25 a month. But you know, with the business plan, you get full access to WordPress. So I mean is like you can upload, you can upload your own WordPress themes that you get from a different sites. So they got theme forests. You can have your own plug-ins, know, like right here, install themes and plug-ins, SEO tools, et cetera. It's functionally speaking the same as getting a shared hosting account at Bluehost or say ground and just creating a website with them. And so that's why it's a little expensive because like right now I can go to blues, like we just open that up. I can go to Bluehost, we're here in let me just open up that. And so let me go here. 95 a month so I can just get a hosting point for 295 month and then I full access to WordPress. Whereas with the business plan I had to pay $25 a month to get full access. Now, again, the advantage is that you get unlimited hosting. So that's really nice here because, you know you're not going to eat. You could build a site to a 100 thousand visitors a month on the business plan, no problem. Whereas like, you know, if you're on this basic plant blows know you're going have to upgrade or move on to a different web hose. That's her thing. Then the last is e-commerce. E-commerce is obviously for e-commerce. So if you're willing to sell products and you're looking for an alternative to say like Shopify or, you know, GoDaddy e-commerce, then you can go check out this pricing plane right here. If you're interested in it, which I think is nice, you would get on the mid themes, get lots of storage. It can remove WordPress ads, you know, different types of integration with payment processors, lots of customization that lots of support, etc. So anyways, that's your options for pricing plans. 9. Conclusion: All right everyone, that's it for this course on how to create a website and blog using I hope you've got a lot of value of the course.
