1. Introduction: Hello everyone. Welcome to my first class of 2021. I hope this year treats you better than the last one. In this fun project we will be crafting up at gada cater by using different tools and techniques in Photoshop to exaggerate the cutest parts of the animal and present them to the world in the Vbc them. So let's get started. 2. Pet Caricature From Photographs: We're going to create a new file. Let's use one of the photo presets. And I'm going to select a five by seven. Right? Now, the most important part of the calculator is obviously the photograph. So make sure you take a really high resolution image and with good lighting and try to take multiple angles of the image. For example, taking the entire body of the PET and also zooming in to take the phase. Now let's go ahead and place our work file. I'm gonna go to File. Click on Place Embedded. Let's select our image, Doug Irwin. Let's transform it outwards to fill the entire region. Now since we have placed the image, instead of dragging it from a separate file, it automatically converts it into a smart object, which is what we want. Now, I have made some changes to this image. The original image had a different color to the background. It was quite warm and similar to the create and the dog itself. But I wanted some more contrast in the background to highlight the subject more. So obtain its color, a bluish tint. So if you want to do that and have a different background, it's quite easy in this image because we have a good separation between the subject and the background. So you can just use the Quick Selection Tool or reduce the burst size using the bracket keys and creator of selection. Now when it comes to ideas like these, which are quite blurry, the Quick Selection Tool is not going to work that well. So let's start using the pen tool for this. And just hit P to bring up the pen tool. And I'm just gonna create a reference election around these edges. Just click to create straight lines. Let's close it. Now to convert this pen path into a selection. Normally you would hit Control enter. But since we already have an active selection, you have to add this bent path into this active selection. So to do that, instead of hitting control enter, you just introduce the Shift key into it. So if we had control shift enter, the pen path gets included into the active selection. Alright, now let's creator hue saturation layer. And our selection is going to be added as a mask to that layer automatically. And obviously we want the inverse of this. We don't want to affect the subject, where does the wall? So I'm gonna select the mosque, the Layers panel and hit control i to inverse it. Let's go back to the hue saturation and double-click on the icon to bring up its properties. Let's just it up it is again, see you can give it any color you want. The original image was similar to this kind of a warm color. If you want that you can see it from here and try playing with the saturation as well. So this is how you change the color of the background. What for me, I'm happy with the blue color. So I'm just going to hide this use isolation layer. Alright, I'll let start with the caricature itself. When it comes to dedicate your all we are trying to do is exaggerate the most defining aspects of this object. It is mainly going to be the face. And within the phase itself, we will exaggerate different elements. I'm going to open up the second image we have of this subject is doe, go to o. This is the same subject in the same setting, an environment, but taken in with the zoomed in camera. So we have this nice depth of field effect with the body being autofocus and the head being in-focus. And we will be selecting out the head from this image and compositing it here to give a kind of a miniature look to our subject. Now if you're working on your own files and projects and do not have multiple images of the subject. It is still all right. You can just use a single image to get the same effect and technique. For example, again, select out the head and the single image itself. I'm doing the refs election year. Generally you'd use append to get a precise election of something like this which has quite blurry edges. But just to show the example, we can use our first image itself and duplicate it. And click the layer mask to separate out the head. Let's zoom out and transform it. Writing Control T. I'm holding on to scale it from the center position. It maybe increase it a bit more and give it a tilt. Right? And we can start working from here. So we don't need to have two images. But having a second image obviously gives you more detail and better depth to our composition. So I'll be using the second image for this. Let's go here and make our selection. That is our subject for the galaxy. We are starting this election with the pen tool. Might work here, but we are better off dealing with the pen tool and have a really nice and precise selection. So I'm just going to start off with the year. Just clicking and dragging out the handles. You make a mistake. Alright, our selection is complete. Since our backgrounds are matching up val and both the images, they are similar color. Even if the mask is not perfect, the subject is still going to blend in fine. So let's hit Control enter or return the path into a selection. And I click on the Layer Mask icon here. Alright, and I'm going to double-click on the mosque to bring up the selected Moscow panel and adding some feather. For maybe that's too much. Let's try three. And given some smoothness, and just click OK. And let's select our image and drag it on to our main composition. It's quite big here. So I'm just gonna right-click, convert it into a smart object. Let's call it tau head, and transform it by hitting Control T. And hold down the Alt key to scale it from the center. Alright, hit enter. And let's ship the head a bit up. Now as you can see, it creates a really nice miniature effect with our pet having quite a small body and a really big head right onto our next step, which is to exaggerate the facial details on our subject. And I'm going to select the head layer and go to Filter and liquefy. Now as you know, liquefy is quite a powerful filter in Photoshop. And it is used a lot. Or maybe you can see it's kind of overused in lots of images. For our image, let's be subtle and we don't have to do anything else. I'm going to use the bluetooth and increase the size of the brush. And let's start off with the ice and exaggerate the features which make our pet look more cute. Lets exaggerate the eyes first. There's gonna click. Maybe increase the size a bit. In this, keep clicking on the center of the eye. If you overdo it, just hit control Z to undo. In this clip, let's do the same thing on the other side by adjusting the British accordingly. This clicking on that. Alright. Now the next thing, let's reduce the size of the nose. Increase over size and use the pucker tool here. And just click. Alright. Last thing is to adjust this jaw line. So I'm going to use the Forward Warp tool. Increases size. This click and drag a little bit on both the sides. Just clicking and moving in the left direction here. As clicking and dragging and level out the outright. Alright, let's increase the burst size. We are going to move this center region. Can say the cheeks. So let's have a big brush. Just try to hold it a bit towards the right time to give it a kind of a smile. Is do the same thing on the other side. Make sure you're not stating it too much. And of like balancing n. All right, and zoom out a little bit towards the inside. And mostly looking for some kind of a symmetry. Alright, let's click OK. You can see the difference. If I turn off the filter, the whole context of the image was kind of, you know, not interested. But now he is happy. Or I don't know, let's add some sparkle to the eyes. Not to do this. I'm going to create a new layer here. Name it, sparkles. And zoom in. And I'm going to use my ellipse tool to drag out a circle. Right now I'm going to be filling up this region with the clouds filter to create a texture for the ice. Cloud filter works based on the foreground and background color. So let's go ahead and select those colors now. For the foreground, I'm going to choose a bright brownish color. For the background. To the similar color. A little bit dark. Let's go to Filter and enter clouds. Clouds is a randomly generated texture. So on your foreground and background colors. Now to get a different iteration of this, can go back to filter and select clouds. Or you can just use the shortcut control alt F. And keep repeating until you get to texture. He like, so. I like this one. Let's try once more. Yeah, well, this one seems more. Can say balanced. So let's use this. I'm going to create a copy of this layer and turn off the first one. Alright, next, I'm going to add a blur effect to this. I'm gonna go to filter blur and choose radial blur. You'll be using these zone method. And among two, all the way to a 100. Now I'm gonna delete up the central part of this layer. Or to do that, make sure we honor the selection tools. Select it over here. Then right-click and select Transform selection and hold down the alt key to transform it from the center. And once you get the region, hit enter. And I'm just going to hit the delete key and get rid of it. Alright, so let's add in some levels adjustment to this, bring in some more contrast. Alright? Now next thing is to add in some noise to the layer. As you can see, it is looking quite smooth here. So let's add in some texture by using the nice filter. To filter lies. Add noise. We using the Gaussian thinker, monochrome is fine. Let's increase the amount. Maybe about four. Okay. All right, so our main sparkle Lear is complete. Let's duplicate it one more time. And I'm going to hide the main thing and rename it as a sparkle name. And this one, let's rename it as sparkled, right? Because we'll be using this on the right. I call it position this layer onto the eye. It control T, transform it and try to fit it into the hit enter. And tin the blend mode of this layer to Color Dodge. Alright? And we do not want this spilling all over dy, so add a layer mask to it. Select the layer and click on this Add Layer Mask icon. And use the brush to make sure a painting with black can hit X to switch between the foreground and background color. Let's use a soft brush with very low opacity. And start painting of a the details which is really important that you give a very soft and smooth transition this color into the eye. Otherwise it's going to look really hard and I'm giving an opacity of about ten and slowly building out the effect. Alright, let's motivate to select our layer and use the arrow keys to see the before and after. And let's paint away some of it on the island. Selecting the mosque and painting are going to lead to the same thing on the left. I am going to duplicate the sparkle mean layer, rename it as sparkle left. I can hold down shift to move it out of proportion to match die better. Enter. And let's change the blend mode to Color Dodge. And let's create a mosque. Start painting away. Contain the pressure intensity by hitting a number on your I let to increase the capacity to 20% and start painting away. Alright, let's see. And before and after. The one thing we are missing on this left eye is a highlight like the one we have here. So let's create that. Indicate on a new layer. Name it as Highlight. And use our pen tool to create a box like this one. Let's fill this up with the light color and bring it onto our left, I transform it. And when it's already existing and increase the size a bit. But let's give it some blur. When I go to filter. Blur. Gaussian blur. Think a value of one. It looks good. Let's increase it to 1.2. Click OK. We'll zoom out. Get position it by using our arrow keys. A bit better than that looks great. And maybe it is the opacity a bit. I'm going to hit nine and the impact to reduce the capacity to 90. And that looks really good. Alright, now the next step is to use some Dodge and Burn techniques to increase the contrast in the image. So to do this, I'm going to create a new layer. I'll call it number and I'm going to fill up this layer with the gray color. Can press Shift F phi, screwing up the filter dialog box. And I'm going to use 50% agree from the content selection menu. And click OK. Now this is a nondestructive way of working with the Italian Burn tools. Since we have filled up this layer with GREE, all we have to do is change the blend mode of this layer to overlay. And the grey will disappear. And only the values which are brighter or darker than R3 will appear on our image. So now, when I use the Burn tool and start working on this darker regions, you can see only those areas get affected. And if you click on the layer, you can see how it's working. So let's click again to go back. And let's work on the Burn tool. The exposure is about 50%, so I'm going to reduce it to 20 and start doubting up the regions in the image. Slowly painting in really nice contrast to our image. The highlights. And again, let's reduce the exposure value. Alright. That's enough for the Dodge and Burn tools. Right now into our color and contrast adjustments, I'm going to combine the entire image into a new layer. So I can press control shift or ten e to bring the entire image into its own separate layer. Let's call it toggle. And I'm going to convert it into a Smart Object. And for this task of adjusting the color and the contrast details, let's go to the camera or filter. And this is one of the most powerful filters in Photoshop for adjusting your images. And it is a nondestructive. So the first thing is let's increase the vibrance in this image. And we increase it for about 60%. Alright? And let's add in some texture. The texture sitting here kind of increases the micro detail on the image and gives it a sharp look. And same thing with the clarity. Gave it about 10%. Let's go to the effect sitting here and use the wing netting and zoom-out, mediating that darker border around the image. If you go into the negative values. And it does the opposite if you go on the idea that a white border. So in this case we'll be adding a dark vignette, which highlights our subject much better. Think a value of about 40 is good. Alright? And we're almost done. One last thing I'd like to do is add. All right, we're almost done. One last thing I would like to do here is to add in some sharpness towards subject's face. I'm gonna duplicate this layer for Togo by hitting Control G. We don't need it to be a smart objects. I'm going to right-click and rasterize it. Let's rename it as sharpen. Now to add sharpness to this image will be using the high-pass filter. To filter other. High-pass filter works is similar to how we use the Dodge and burn techniques. We start off with 50% gray background. And as we increase the radius, the sharpness added to the image. Let's try a value of about six cookie cookie. And now to get the effect which we want, like we did with this Dogen one layer, select the sharpen layer and t in the blend mode to overlay. And if you turn it off and all, you can see a clear difference. And we have some nice sharpness onto our image, but we do not want it on the entire image. So I'm going to add a Layer Mask. And I'm going to fill it with black by hitting all tax piece. Since black is our foreground color. Let's select the mass. Allenby to bring up the brush tool and increase the burst size. Painting with the white color. Let's change the opacity to about 50 and bring in the sharpness to our image. Right? You see the before and after. Have some nice sharpness onto our image. That's our final composition. I hope you learn something new and have a nice day.
