1. Introduction: create your own mockups in photoshop. So you have this piece of art that you want to display in your online store, and you found this image that is perfect. Sourcing Images - Lesson 1: so welcome to lesson one, and in this lesson, we're going to be talking about sourcing your images. and also, what image makes a good image for a mock up? If you decide to purchase your images for your mockups, then you really need to be thinking about value for money. This image, for example, is a good value for money image. You have two areas that you can mock up on. That's the picture frames, but also at a later date. When you master the art of doing mockups, you'll find that you can mock up the wallpaper, area, the curtains and also the cushions in front and maybe even the floors. That's what you want to do next. You need to think about how we're going to use your image. and also, what style is your image? I love seeing other artists work in progress drawings or their sketchbooks. And, also I like to display on my social media, my sketches or my work in progress on, and this image is perfect for that because you can just pop in any sketches that you've done. They don't have to be finished, And put them straight on to your social media and they Just look great. Everyone loves to see a work-in-progress shot. So if you can find an image of a sketchbook like this one, for example, you'll find you'll get lots of use out of it. So now let's talk about backgrounds. I love to use different flat backgrounds like this one. For example. This is perfect because it has a big blank space in the middle. Basically, you can just pop whatever you want straight in the middle, you can put, for example, this card would look perfect. So, for example, you have some greeting card designs that you'd like to display in your Etsy store or your website store. This is absolutely perfect, it's a great image to use. You can find lots of images like this completely free on the Internet, I've actually attached the file in the class Projects tab. That foul is a full list of all the stock photo, the free stop voter websites that I use myself on. Also some information regarding copyrights, which you need t read up on Onda and know all about before using any images from the website for free on one final tip I'd like to share with you is to look for images with plain backgrounds you made you see here. If you were to find this on you think great. I'd love to use this. But you have artwork in the picture frames already. You could remove the artwork, but then you would you lose the shading inside the frames on. It just becomes more complicated and more time consuming. Eso moving onto this next image, you can see this would be Farmall suitable. You can see it's completely plain white background. I'm ready just to get started straight on on your mock ups. So that was just a quick run down off how to source your images for your mockups. Andi, let's get started in the next lesson on actually creating our own mock ups. Let's see them 3. The Selection Process - Lesson 2: so welcome to listen to andan this lesson. We're going to learn how to select the area that we want to mock up, ready to pop her artwork into. So, first of all, if you're new to photo shop, when you first open photo shop, your screen should look roughly like this. If it doesn't just go to the top right hand side to this drop down menu and just click onto essentials. Yours maybe emotion painting or maybe just in start. But just click onto essentials, and that should bring your screen up looking roughly like this. Um, it's the left hand side. You'll see the tools panel on and on here. There's there's all different tools that will be used in. We won't be using too many in this first lesson on, but should be on the left hand side, on to the right here. You should have your layers panel. If you don't see this layer plant panel, then you just need to go to the windows tab at the top here. Just click that and this will bring up this drop down menu and just scroll down two layers and just tick the layers on. Then that ultimately bring up this layers panel on the right hand side. Okay, So to select the image that we want to work in today, um, first will make sure that you've downloaded them from the class projects Tab Onda, um, and decide which one you want to work in their to mid images. I'll show you if you go to the file here, just click file Andi open, and then that will bring up your folders on. You need to find where you've saved the images. Eso I have two images here that we could choose. We could use either this one here image which it will be labeled image number two. Um, well, we could use, um, this one, for example. I'm going to use this one because, um, the picture frames air at a slight angle so I can show you how to get your images into things that slightly angled that have, like, a perspective that we need Teoh work on. So just click image one, and we can work along together and click open. Then that should bring up your image. Um, in your workspace here. Okay. So just a quick run. Throw off the tools that will be using just in this lesson. Because this is a beginner's lesson. I'm gonna keep it simple, and we're just going to use the three icons to click onto every time we need to use it all . There aren't keyboard shortcuts that you can use, but we're just gonna keep it really simple, which is gonna go to the toolbar here and click whichever told we need to use throughout the true took tutorial. So the 1st 1 which we need to know, is this one on the top left hand side and this is your move. Tool doesn't move anything about on your screen. If you don't see that, you need to just click your mouse onto it on and it will open up other options on. You need to just find it there. So which is Click pat. So that's already activated on the second tool, which will be using Is the political less so tall? And that's here. You may not see that immediately. It may show up as the less so tall or the magnetic lasso tool. So again, if you just pop your mouse on top, click it and hold it down and it will bring up other options. If you just click onto that, that will help you zoom in and zoom out, Teoh to your image. You just click that and then you take your mouse and you move your mouse and that will zoom in. What I always like to do is make a copy off my image, and to create a copy, you can simply right click on da click duplicate layer. Alternatively, what I usually do is just click on the layer and I drag it down to this icon here second in from the right, and that will create a copy of the layer. So I'm just going to click with the mouse on, drag it down here, and that will automatically make a new layer on top of the original layer. Um, so I want to keep the original layer intact. So, um, I'm just going to switch the eye off here and that will That would deactivate that layer and you won't be able to see it. Also, this padlock here was stopped the layer from moving on and deleted and deleted by accident , for example, On this is a new layer. We want to work in this new there. So we want to be able to activate that buy just unlocking it. So we just click the padlock on that will unlock it, and then we'll be ready to use it. So I'm gonna click the layer that we're going to be working in, which is this new layer. I want to zoom in, so I'm gonna just zoom in to the area that we're going to start mocking up and I'm going to start on the smaller picture frame here. So I'm gonna zoom in as close as I can get so that I can really see the edges on and pick those edges out. So I'm gonna start in the top left hand corner and I'm gonna take the mouse is closest. I can to the corner. It's gonna zoom in a little bit more, Andi get It's accurate, as I can write in the corner there. And if you just click it, you'll see that it brings up this, um, this line here, Andi, just move along. Move your mouse along until you reach you over and you'll find at the screen. We'll just move with your mouse. And then I reached the of Akona and click, and then I'm gonna go down to the following corner here, click into that corner and then across to the bottom left hand corner and again click it in , place away up until I meet the other end on. As the two ends meet, you'll see that there's a little circle and that tells you that that meeting on just simply click it and then you'll see if I bring the screen out a little bit, zoom out just a little bit. You'll see that it's highlighted the area that we want Teoh to use with this'll running ants going all the way around. So next we need to, um, fill this area. Andi. Um, To do that, we need to make a new layer. So we come down here again. Andi, instead of copying the layer, we just wanna come straight down here and make a new empty layer. So we're gonna click this icon, and this will create a new layer. It's the 2nd 1 in from the right at the bottom, and you can see it makes a new layer above the other two. Now, um, you can see the Stewart, the running answer still selected. Um, Now we need Teoh to fill this area with what? And to do that we need to go down here to the bottom left hand corner of our screen. And this is your color palette and just select the white here. If you don't see the white, you may need Teoh Tuggle this on or on or off the arrows here. Alternatively, just double click, and this will come up with a color palette. And you just select the color that you're looking. Looking forward. We're looking for white and click. OK, so that's activated. Then we need to just go to, um and it said it on and Phil, and this will bring up a new new box on. We just want to be sure that says foreground color before we click. OK, you see the drop drop down menu come up with other options. We need foreground color, which is already selected. So I'm going to click, OK, and then you can see that automatically fills that area. Um, and this is your area that will be filled with your art. So before we can do anything mawr with this area, we just need to go to our keyboard and click control de and that will de select the running ants that are around the the image. Um, and then just go to the pool bar on the top line from left hand side and used click back onto our move tool. Um, so the last thing we need to do before we select her image to go into the picture frame is to, um to make this area transparent so that it's like the other pitch frame here on, and it will show through the shade in and look more realistic. To do that, we go to the layers panel here, make sure that you're clicked in to this layer that we're working on and then go to this second drop down box here. Andi, scroll down to linear burn. Now you'll see automatically. What that's done is that's made this area transparent. Andi. So when you drop your image or your artwork, whatever you're gonna pop in this area or the original shade in was show through Andi. It will make it look more realistic. Eso that's it for this lesson. And in the next lesson, we're going to be putting our artwork into the picture frame. 4. Placing Your Image - Lesson 3 : so welcome to listen three. And in this Listen, we're going to put her artwork into the frame area that we mocked up in the previous lesson . So we need to go to file at the top here, then scroll down to place embedded. Then we need to choose the illustration. Um, artwork. Whatever you gonna pop into that area on, I'm gonna choose this'll it'll pug illustration and click place, and that will place the image straight on top of this. This mockup. Now, what we need to do is to resize this illustration roughly to the size of the picture frame or the area that we need to mock up. So to do that, I'm just going to, um, drag the corners in and hold down my shift key at the same time. So if you take a mouse, Andi, hold the shift. Que onda take one of the corners and just drug it down roughly to the size of the picture frame. Okay, that's roughly about the right size. And we're just going to click the move tall and then pop bad in place. We need to go to lay off, create clipping mask on a Z you'll see. What that will do is that will pop that straight into that clipping mask we made yesterday . Andi, already It looks great. But what I'd like to do is also to show you how Teoh play around with E uh, the transform tools on. And because sometimes you'll find you'll have a new image that doesn't immediately look good in the in the market up area. So make sure that we're on the layer off the artwork that we've just placed in. And then we go to, um, at it. Andi, you have a few choices here. You have the free transform tall on that simply just allows us to make this bigger or smaller or to rotate it. But what I want to use share with you is the the one underneath it says transform. And when you click on to that, it will bring up another list of all the different tack transformation tools that we can use now for this one, because the images slightly in a perspective, I'm going to show you how to use a perspective tool. So click the perspective on that's just zoom in and show you how this works now you can just take one corner with the mass on moving, and you can see how that changes your perspective off your image. So what I'm gonna do, just go with the shape of the picture frame, So just going to take the the corners, bring them up slightly. Oops. Okay. And I think that looks pretty good. Andi, just to put that in place again, we go to the move tool, click it and click place Andi. Then you can say that that's looking a lot better. Just go into move it into the center slightly just to make it look better. And there you have it. That's your image, your first image mocked up. And I think that looks pretty awesome and you can see because we made the lay a mask and we use the linear burn all around. The edges were retained the shade in, so it looks completely realistic. So now images in place and everything's mocked up. We want to be helped Teoh reuse this image again and again. So later date. When we open a document, we want to make it really easy for ourselves to just go straight in on swap the images over whenever we like Onda To do that, we use smart objects. What I do is I go onto the layer where the the artwork is in this top layer here and on this area to the right earthy box I'm going to right click and then I'm going to scroll down to convert to smart object Going to click that And what that does is that automatically converts it into a smart object on. Basically, it just remembers and retains all the information regarding this image. So if you have any mistakes, you can go back and you're not actually going to lose it. Um, So Okay, so we've done all this on. We want Teoh, close it. And then later we want to open it back up again on we want to change this park for another image. So now that we've converted this to a smart object or we have to do is double click this square and that will open up a new windows. Andi, um, you had the image that you had originally aunt to replace that all we do is go to file place embedded. Find on your image. I'm just going to use this one and click place ons. You can adjust that just by holding your shift key down and your mouths at the same time in dragon, the outside corners, Onda K that looks OK and then click here. You'll move tour and click place and then always remember to go to file and save so that will say that information. So when we go back into our original and image, which is this one here, you'll see that it's replaced it with the new image. And that looks great. I think it might need to just rearranging a little bit. So I'm gonna just tweak it a little bit. I mean, some thought times you may find that the image that you have simply just does no fit into into your mock up. It just is not the right dimension orientation on. And you just can't use that particular markup for your art on this one. Just about squeezes in there, and that's okay. So then I'm going to just place that because I've got this cross the line. I need to get rid of that by just clicking, move, tool on place on dso There you have it the new image. You can see how quick that is just to go back into the document. DoubleClick. I'm going to just go back to the original pug one to show you one last time. Double click. This time I've got the pug. They're still because we were working on it earlier. I'm just gonna turn off the eye for the German shepherd dog. And that will reveal the new layup, The old layer rather with the with the pocket. And again, I need to go to file and save. Always save. Then when I returned back into the original document, we've got the puck back in its in its place. Um, so before moving on toothy second picture frame, I like to keep my layers organized because the more layers you keep add in, the more confusing it can be can be a And when your first preparing your more cup Excuse me when you first preparing your mole carb. You may think that you'll remember where everything is, but then when you close the document and you open it back up two months later, Teoh reuse that everything's all over the place and it just takes twice as long, Teoh to add new images. So from the beginning, I think it's really good just to keep things organized. So what I want to do is for this small picture frame. I want to move everything related to that into folder. And what we do is we just click this the top image, which was the administration, and in holding down the shift key will click the layer mask underneath and that selects both the layers I want pop those both into a folder. Now, with those both selected, you just scroll down to the bottom here and you can see this'll image third in from the right. And that's to create a new folder because these two are selected. When you click this those to automatically you can see here, go into this folder. Now, toe open this folder. Um, we just simply click this arrow here next to the fold on the left hand that will open up, um, and revealed the layers that we were working on originally. Another thing that I like to do is also to name my folders, so we know exactly where we are. We can work more efficiently So to do that, just double click the writing on did rename it. I'm going to call it small frame. Okay. And now that's nicely tucked away into this folder. So when we come back in, we can go. Great. I want to work on this small frame. Click the arrow, open up your layers, and then you can come straight in here on double click your smart object and replace it with a new image. So I'm just gonna close this up now. And I'm just gonna talk quickly about the second frame. Now, to mark up this second frame, you work exactly the same way, which you did with the 1st 1 You go through the whole procedure step by step of the way that you've learned in the last two lessons. Andi, mock it up. Is that the same? Just make sure that when just before you begin your clicked on tooth, this the last layer the folder that we've made before you begin on on this picture frame on DTA do that. You're just add a new layer and then you can begin marking this layer up. I'm just gonna pop this on fast forward and you can just see quickly how I work exactly the same as the the original one. So you can see that was really simple to Dio. And the final thing that I want to dio this has been already converted into smart objects. All that needs to be done now is to select those two layers on, just pop them into a new folder, rename them large frame, and that's it. So now when we go to save our document and we open again in the future we opened, it is very clear is very clean. You can go to your small frame, you can edit that, or you can go to a large frame and you can edit that very simple, very straightforward. Crop + Save - Lesson 4: Okay. Welcome back. This is lesson for and in this lesson, we're going to learn how to crop. Our image is for this particular lesson. I'm going to show you how Teoh crop this image into a square on ready to display on social media. So to crop, her image would go to the tool bar on the left hand side on. If you scroll down here, you'll see this this image here, it's called the capital. Now, if you don't see it again, just hold your mouse down and it will bring up a menu off different tools that you can use . So we want this tour here, the crop. It'll okay with that selected? If you look at the top already, it has a set dimension. Now, to clear that, you just click this box here clear, and you can either put your own dimensions in or you can go to the drop down menu here, and it gives your choice off different dimensions that you could you could save it up. But just for this demonstration, I'm just gonna pop back in 1000 by 1000 and you'll see here that it will bring up this'd box that is 1000 by 1000 pixels. Now, just click on the screen here in the middle on that will activate the box, ready to adjust and just pop your mouse on the corner Any corner on just drug it in. We'll drag it out. Um, And then, if you're happy, say, but some people miss a little bit smaller when you want it quite tight inside the square, you can go to there and then you can move your image behind So Soviet some P. Maybe you just want to cut some of the picture frames out or you want to have them really quite central. Um, you can just have a play and just see exactly how you want to do it. Usually, I like Teoh to have it, Um, quite large. Like this example. If I'm going to crop in the square and then I like Teoh quite often, I'll put just here in the top left hand corner just with this particular image. Anyway, my logo andan I'll save it for for my instagram feed s Okay anyway, So if you're happy with that, then you just go to your move toward just select that on. It'll ask you if you want to drop the image. If, by mistake you you press this just and you hadn't finished this click don't crop eso If your heart pages click crop, then you can see it's cropped into nice square. You can at this stage at any logo any infographics. Andi. Think you any message that you'd like to put if it's your online shop, maybe prices or whatever you can. Now add that on top. So anything that you want to add on top of this image if you just make sure that you work in the top layer by clicking the top layer and then just make a new layer. Andi, you can go to the type tour here, for example, and you can type something in or you can open your local logo, for example, on just click file place embedded, find your logo and place it in. Um, and then you're ready to save it. I'm going to save this for for my instagram, so oversee that some on the Web. So I'm going to go to file Andi Export and save for Web, and that will bring this screen up here on. I'm just gonna make sure that I'm on this second drop down menu here. I've got the J peg selected. And then also, you need Teoh change the image image size. So I'm just gonna make sure I've got the 1000 pixels in their, um before you actually click save, you can go onto this preview here, and it will give you a preview in your browser. So let's just click that on. That would just give you a preview of how your image will look in your Web browser. So that's great. I'm happy with that. You can also drag it around here in the screen with your mouths. Just put pop your mouse on and you could drag it around. Just have a quick look. See how that looks happy with that click save. And then it will bring up this window of your files on. You can say that. Make sure that you you name it so that you can find it again in your in a file click save replace, because I already saved one before. Um, and then when you go to open up at a later date, someone go to file. I just show you how that looks open. Okay? There is here. Saved in my documents. There's conflict that open it open in another window on. And that looks great. So that's your image. Ready to go? Ready to share wherever, um, on the internet. You can You can even print this up. But if you wanted to print, um, instead of saving for web, you go to file save as on this here highlighted in blue You need to click. And this will bring up this big drop down menu on. We're going to save it here as a J peg again. But this time, when you save it, just click save. Okay, so I've got this document already. That's fine. Ok, and then when you go to open it in the folder on do you want to print it? Physically? The image will be at a much higher resolution. With the cropping and saving. Andi, I see you in the last lesson. 6. More Fun Projects - Lesson 5: welcome back to the last lesson. Less than five on in this lesson. I'm just gonna run you through a few things that we can do now with the new skills that we've learned. First of all, I just want to show you how to, um, to put images on top of them over images. So s so, for example, you find a nice image like this on. Do you have a picture frame that you would like to put on this wall? All I would do is open up this image. Andi find Ah, a nice picture frame that I'm looking for and not that picture frame up. Um, like this one, for example. Um, with this, I would simply just make up this area in the middle. I'm gonna put this on fast forward now, because you know how to do that. So that's already a pop. My new image into the into the frame. Um, and now I want to put this picture frame onto this wall. Now, the problem is, I have this white background. So if I drag this whole image into the into the other image, I'm still gonna have this white background. So I need to remove that background. So to do that, I need to go to the original layer, which was the 1st 1 without all the de milk up. Andi, I'm going to take my same tour that we've been using all along. And that's the the hooligan. New less it'll now there's a few tools that we can use to remove the background. I'm just gonna quickly show you how to remove with e pelican a tort which would be news in all this time. Just take each point, select all way around the frame. Keep going until you reach the other point. Then instead of, um, pressing delete because that's going to delete the frame. We want to inverse it. So we go to select inverse on that will select the area outside of the picture frame, and then I'm gonna click my back space key on that's deleted this whole area. Um, I'm just going to come back on myself and show you now another way that we can delete the background on. That's to use this tall here, and it's called the quick selection tool. So if you could call, click onto this quick selection tour it may appear a za magic wand, So if you click on to the magic wand, it will bring up this little list of these two tools that you can use. So we want the quick selection tool literally. If we just drag your mouse all the way around the image, it will select any of this white area. And then again we can click the back space, and that will delayed the background. So So there's two ways that you can. You can delete the backgrounds. Sometimes the quick selection TTL won't work because off maybe the color differences between interior areas that you want to to delete eso. You just have to have a little play around to see which tall works best for you. Um, OK, so let's just go ahead and, um, delete that background control and de select. So now we have this picture frame on its own, ready to drag straight into the new image. So we need to do is to put these into a folder, so that's this'll layer this layer and this layer on. Then we just want to make a new folder so that we couldn't simply drag it around however, you could actually copy this and paste it. Or you could save this as a PNG and paste it into the new image. But I thought I got both firms screens open at the same time. So I like to just click onto this, hold my mouse down on it and drug it into my new image. And there it is. It's, um it's looking pretty good. I'm gonna put it quite large on. Let's just put it Central. Okay, so that's ready. Now, one final thing we need to do is be nice to put a little drop shadow around the edges, Onda. And we do that by just opening up. Just clicking on this layer. That was the the page frame. Onda. We double click when we double click. It will open up this window. Andi, if you can't find it here on the left hand side, we're looking for the drop shadow. Now Have one to here where I've just been working in them before. But if you can't find them, just click this box here. Effects on it will have a whole list of things that you can do. Click drop shadow and that will be selected on then that bring up this area here off settings. Now I just drug can say that you can dio all different things. I'm just going to take a quick look at where the light is coming from in my image here, it's so it's coming from the left hand side. So I need to remember that with this. So I need to have the light from here. And so I need my drop shadow here to the right. Um, OK, so this is this is your control panel on bond so that we can get this shadow straight ups that you can see what I'm talking about. Here it is here, So I'm just messing around with the distance here, okay? And we can do the spread here on also the size there's so there's all different things that you can do. So just have a play around, see how best it looks. Andi, you can see here we can mess around with the angle. But remember that the light was coming from the left hand side so we don't want it there. The light is coming from here the left hand side. So if you selected there to the left. You see that the shadow drops down to the right. So that's okay. Just for now, Okay? And it's too soon, and you can see how easy that is just to pop straight on top off anything. So now if I wanted, I could just click onto this layer here that I have already, and I can just drag that wherever on. If I have another picture open, I can drag it and drop it straight onto that onto that picture. So just taking this into, um, another image again. If give you another example, I drag this into here. You can see again how we can just play around with it. Um, applies. That looks great. Probably not quite the right frame to go with the set in, but it's just to give you an example. If I've, for example, just click onto this folder that I've dragged into here and I can play about with it with e free transform button the transform perspective here. Andi, if I just move it down a little bit, you can see how you can mess around. You can make it look like it's leaning up against the wall. Ah, that's another thing that you can do with that. Now, If I take that off, I show you another image that I prepared earlier this time without picture frame. I've just done canvas and popped my artwork straight into canvas. Um, and also at an angle, another angle. So you can see there's lots of different things that you can do with your markup on. And, you know, just by changing at the backgrounds, changing up the frames, it's just endless. Onda also moving onto this of a flat background, Um, a little bit Christmassy looking. And what I've done is I've taken this greeting card. Andi, I've removed the white background and have mocked up the greeting card area. Andi, I've just popped those all into a folder, and you can simply then drag it, place it straight on toothy flat background, resize it according to how you want it to look on and apply. And there you have another example off displaying you work. So thats final example want to share with you is to mock up a book on um, I wanted to share this because I realized that not everyone that has taken this lesson is an artist or illustrator or whatever onda. Sometimes we just want to use the markup for other projects. On dis is a fine example off that, um now again, the same thing. The same process applied to this as in all the other lessons, is to mark up the area that you you want to replace and your image in tooth eso You will mock up this area here and simply replace it with with your illustration or lettering or title of your book. Whatever it is you need to pop in. So again, I'm just gonna pop it on Fast forward, Andi, I'll be back in a moment. So there it is. The finish markup on ball I've done with E with the letter in is, I've just gone into edit, transform on perspective, and then you can mess around with the perspective the way that you've been taught in the earlier classes.
