Hi and welome to my new Skillshare Class  on how to create Happy and Vibrant Paintings using Procreate. Make sure you read all of the description below before starting the class.

This is a funny self portrait I made for my 50th birthday. Just one big party right?

I just love to draw in procreate, but I also love the authentic look of real paintings. So why not combine those two?

In this class I will teach you my way of creating a colorfull  bright and happy painting in a loose and sketchy way using procreate. In this class I will be providing a canvas with texture and also a small brushset to give your painting a realistic acrylic look and feel. I’ll teach you on how to achieve a random colorful happy background which you can use over and over again with some minor changes to get a different outcome every time (now that’s a time saver if you want). I show you the perfect way to let go of your perfectionism and let the paint do it’s magic. I also show you on how to choose an object and translate it onto your canvas, how I choose my colors and how to give it all some extra energy and movement.

Any drawing experience would be great but we will do it step by step. And if you are totally new with loose drawings I would advise you to look at my Sketchy Doodling using Procreate class first. It will help you a lot for this class.

This class is specially made for the Procreate user, so you will be needing an iPad with the app Procreate on it and a pressure sensitive stylus. However… you can also translate this into a real painting using acrylic paint. Procreate is just my to go medium ;)

I think this canvas and brushset I provide are realy important to get a realistic and non digital feel. You can find them in the class project section. Make sure you are in your browser (like safari) to download them and not in the skillshare app.

You can choose to draw with me step by step and create the same drawing with me to learn from but you are also very welcome to only use the learned skills and create your own subject

This is a class any level of procreate users, though a bit knowledge is very welcome because this is not a class about the program itself.

1. Intro: Susan. Hi, and welcome to my Skillshare class. My name is Brenda Bucher and I'm from the Netherlands. In today's class, I will tell you and teach you all about my way of creating decorated with paintings. You using acrylics in Procreate. I'm going to teach you all about creating a happy and festive background full of confetti and full of joy. So after we create a background, we're going to create a sketch of the item we want to draw. And it could be any item, but I've chosen three for this class. After you made the sketch, we're going to color the peace. Use light effects and dark effects, creating some shadows. And then when we're all done, we're going to add some highlights. And after data, we're going to create all festive BCE around it again. And just when you think your drawing is ready, we're going to do a value check. I'm going to teach you an easy way to do that to create more interest to your work. This class contains three projects. The first one is easy flowers you can draw, but using the same technique. It's an easy project to start with. The second one is a sheep. That's a little bit harder, but I'll take you by the hand and we'll do it together slowly, step-by-step. And third project is a bonus projects, and it includes Christmas ornaments. So if you're ready for some fun and if you're ready for some color and brightness in your life, then let's hop into this class. 2. Downloading Canvas, Brushset and Colorswatch: So before we can start, we have to get our canvas and smoke brushes. I've provided them for you in class. So make sure you go through your browser and Safari is the preferred one for this. Go to the projects and resources section of this class. And here you find your oil and acrylic canvas and you're happy painting brush sets. So for the canvas, you tap on it, click Download, and you will see it downloaded here. Once it's downloaded, you can click on it. Hit it. It will import right away into your procreate. If you go to your calorie, it will be the first Canvas you'll find in the upper left corner of your Procreate gallery. The second thing we need to import is to brush and just tap on it. Hit download. You can see it working here again. And once it's downloaded, you can click on it. It will go to your downloads, and you can find it in a recent downloads and it will be in the upper left corner as well as your canvas. You can click on it and it will import right away into your brushes. And you can find it if you open any Canvas in the top corner of your brush library. So you can click on it. And here you can see your brush set. So I will walk you through slowly. The 6 B pencil. It's just the 6 B pencil for Procreate, so nothing fancy. Then we have the BB acrylic all-rounder in one color. This is the one we're going to use mostly in class. And this is an extra one for the choice that you make. I will choose a color to demonstrate what it does. So the one color, it just us one color. And you can see you have a little bit of texture in it. But when you press harder, texture will be gone. And when you press lightly, you can see depend first showing through. So it's a mixed acrylic brush. So as well as with acrylic and dry acrylic, by using different pressure on your brush. So the other one with color, It's a multi-color and it's a little bit of a difference. So every time you tap, you can see a slight difference in the color, darker, lighter, and a more saturated color. And we use these brush. Third and bonus class of this class. The outer brushes. Let me see. Can I swipe it away? Yes, the assignment works. I have a messy drip liner. That's the one we're going to use all the time. It is also very pressure sensitive. So when you solve the pressure, you have a small inking line. If you do the hard pressure, it will be sicker and it will be more messier than what you want. So like, for instance, if you want to create a funny background flower, you see in some of my works, I'm not doing this one in class, but you can see it in a background of some basis I did. You can see when changing my pressure, you get a lovely and messy flowers as well. It's a bit of a messy ink brush, so I like that a lot. And then I have created some splitter brushes. I will walk them to quickly, quickly because I will show you in class. The first one is a splatter brush I make from real ink. And you can see it has joined splitter here. So if you use these a lot, you can see the same pattern even though it's twisted, but you can still see the same shape. And because this is fun to use, but also annoying when do when it's too much. Here you have two random splatter brush. It's approximately the same, but without the joint part. So here I've erased that part so you can use it more often. And nobody would recognize a pattern in this one. But I felt the little happy accident was very welcome as well. So then we have a small spray brush just randomly spread all over. And the last one is my fine dots brush, which you can use to your own liking. So these are the brush and of course, of course, I also provide a swatch, a color swatch. You need that for this drawing to follow along. So you can use any color you like, but having a swatch is easy. So just click on it to download. You will see it work here. Once it's here, you can tap on it and it will come into your downloads. And if you click recent download, you see it here already importing straight away. And you can find it all the way at the bottom of your color palettes. So there is for you to use. And now let's get started for real. 3. Creating the Whimsical Confetti Background: So before we get started, after we, we imported the canvas, we are going to make a duplicate first. So you always have a spare one ready. And you're going to draw on one you've duplicated. And the canvas, I will explain a bit about you've got a failure layer. We're coming to this at somewhere in the class, a texture layers, which will provide the Canvas. Look you see here. And we've got the drawing layers. So everything underneath the texture layers dare you can draw on. So make sure you're always there. And let's get started with creating the layers for the background. The background for this piece of art come together with a couple of layers. And that's why I created days. This color swatch for you. You've got a lot of bright colors. So we're going to create a background with all of the colors of the upper row. Or when you think they are too bright, you can always choose this one, but maybe you can also change the saturation afterwards. So let's go and grab the first color, red. I'm going to pick the acrylic all-rounder, one color. That's my color. That's the brush I used the most. I've also got one made for you with multicolor, and it will get you some different color variations. So every time I pick to brush up with this red one with a one-color, it stays in one color. When I took it up with the multi-color brush, I get some different shades, some lighter, some darker. And maybe you will like that. And the next layer, so for this layer only, were we going to use the first one? So let me clear this one and let's go to the one color, make it a little bit smaller. We're going to make some small colors and blend them all over the fields of the canvas. So just randomly create some colors. And this is a very boring job sometimes. But you will see why we need that. Don't make too precise shapes. Just pick here and there on your canvas and leave some space for the other colors. And if these things happen, it's just funny. So let them be there. Some greens, some blues, pick some random fields, just not too much blue here and no blue there. So let's keep that in mind. I'm going to paint over some colors again, that's now harm. I think this is fine. And go to the purple. And we've got some line. Sometimes that's funny too. And some writer pings. You see these were interesting, so just let that happen. Maybe hear some purple again. And make sure you've covered the whole piece here. So that's also nice. So this is your first layer. And we go to a layer on top of that, and we're going to decide what color background I like. Well, for this particular painting, I'm going to do red, orangey. So waste my bright red. Maybe a little bit tone down. So I could go a little darker here, so I can see the changes with the red on the backgrounds because I liked it. So make sure you're on a new layer on top of that. And what we're going to do now is to fill up to cover all those where they connect all those lines. That's the first thing we want to do so and also make sure you're going over the outer lines. So just here and there, just block in those lines. So those lines well be seeable anymore. And this is a pretty boring things sometimes. So if this part is too big, ID divide them into, so don't be too hard on yourself. I hold my pencil very high. So here so I can do the tip to the work. So I'm not going to be that precise because when I'm too precise, I don't like it as much. I don't like the color I already see. I don't like to color, but I'm going to make some changes because I'm on a different layer and I's also could play a little bit with the US saturation and the brightness of the words. So I don't bother too much at this stage. And you see I go randomly just by tapping and dabbing some colors, go the lines. And just randomly let that happen. Also when I see a color come through, just let it be, it will add more to the painting afterwards. And this is a rather fun technique because when I do some random splits, when I decided to draw a background in this darker red color. And I would like to do some random splits. They would not end up so randomly as I wanted to, because I always overthink too much. And this is a fun way to get rid of that overthinking. So now I've got all over pieces. Let me see if I can change that color more to my liking and what fits the background. Or maybe I can go over it with some orange again. So let me see. Maybe I want to save it. So I'm going to duplicate this first. And I'm going to get rid of division of this layer. So let's play with this other one. So maybe I can bump up the saturation a bit. Yes, like here, this is already much brighter, but I can still see the difference between the red. So I think I'm going to keep it like this and now I can get rid of this one. So I'm going to create another one on top of it and do the same with an orangey local color, maybe a little bit brighter. Like so. And my only new layer first, let me check. Let me check. Yes, I'm on a new layer so I can always make changes to that layer again and also get rich of it if I don't like it. So I'm going to do this randomly the same thing again. But now I'm going to be less Civic. So I can see some red somewhere or maybe I go over some colors again. And it's just randomly. Again, I have my pencil very high and let my fingers just scribble and dribble over to Canvas. And you think what weird piece is this? But I think we're getting there and it's rather fun to see this happening. And I can also make changes to this. So when you play with your use saturation and brightness, you can see a lot of different things coming and sometimes they are very happy little accidents. I've come to those myself and I like them very much. So maybe this is not as interesting as the other one was, but let me duplicate it first to keep it safe. Get rid of the layer and now I can play with the top one. Like for instance, let me check. You see like a whole different color variation happening only if you took the saturation away. But you can always also play with lightness of it, the brightness, or you can change the whole color. So what if I wanted a lighter or darker one? Pinkish one? Play a lot with that. And then you can play also with the one on the back. So for instance, let me check, I don't like this color, will. I hated? In fact? Let me see where we go from. Let me go back first. So from here we got let me see. Let me just with the other one around here from the back one. So before we go into play, duplicate it again so I wouldn't have thrown it away so quickly, but that's not a problem. We always get duplicate again. So let's see what we can do by playing with the one in the back. So let me see if we change that. You see, that also makes a lot of difference, but I think the red one was right choice. So I keep it like that. And I think for now, I'm just going to leave it like this. Yeah, I think I'm leaving it like this a bit. Maybe a little bit red. Maybe me more reddish. Let me see. Yes, now I bumped it up. So it's a little bit more red, but not as red as the other one is. And you can still see the orange and you can still see the red. So I think I'm keeping it like this. So it's just to your your own imagination or your own things you prefer. So let me check. This was the yellow one. I did the orangey yellow one. I created this one on top. And I can also play with make it a little bit more shine through so you can do anything, you can. Maybe I'd leave it like this and use OSU layers. So that's okay. So this is just a background you would like to play with. And on top of that, we're going to draw something. So for now I'm going to group these together as C, it is the backgrounds. Top, it's one word, right? Let's go and create some other stuff. 4. Drawing the Quick and Rough sketch : For the first drawing of this class, I decided to take this one, which I made a couple of days ago. And it's a very easy and simple drawing of simple flower. So it's an easy and fun project to start with. And I will show you how. So we're going to a new layer on top of the group from the background, I'm going to take my pencil just to six B or any other pencil you would like to sketch weights. And I use a black color because that's way, way more feasible. So I've got a flower somewhere here and somewhere here. And I want to make it energetic flowers. So I just create the shape from this one. My heart of the flower will be here. And from days one, my hearth the flower will be here. And then I'm going to Bain some randomly leaves and make sure they old points to the heart. You some different shapes and sizes. It doesn't matter if it's loose or if it's tight, but I like it more loosely and not create every petal the same. So some will be on top of the other ones and some will be on the back. So you can have fun with that. So to stem is always coming directly from the heart of the flower. And here we're going to do that also. So, yes, some randomly, some are larger, some are thicker, some are shorter. Some are longer. Just play with that. And from BaseOne, age will be coming like this. I can energetic shape of the flower. So I will be using it more from this angle, I think, or maybe somewhere like here. So I'm going to get rid of the other ones. I don't like little bit too much and it is too less. So this will be approximately those flowers. So I will lower the opacity of this one. And I'm going to create better feasible sketch for you. So I'm going to draw on top of these again, on a new layer. I'm going to draw the heart of this flower. And just, you know, I'm not pick up, I'm, you see me picking up my pencil because I don't want the leaves to be too round. And it's just to make them more whimsical. And otherwise you get all those drops and I don't like that, so just have fun and they don't have to be precise. So like this one nears stem of the flower, just some quick lines. You can always undo them. But if you overthink them too much, they won't be as fun to look at. And they don't have to be precise. So now I can undo my work of that one. So now we've got our sketch ready. We're going to do some coloring. 5. Adding Colors to the Flowers: For the coloring, I'll be choosing the same brush like we used, like we used before. And I'm going to choose white. I'm going to draw on top of my sketch layer. So the lines won't be feasible anymore later, but that's not all no harm. So I'm going to draw some wide leaves. And for those leaves, I would like you to not be precise and make some use of the colors behind it. Don't worry if you pulled into much wide because we can always pull in some color again later. So let's get start to paint. So not too big. What size do I have? Like 14 percent. For this one, it's very important you keep your pencil straight of your Canvas straight because the texture is made for the Canvas. So you see when I move my canvas, the lines will be ought to Canvas. So just keep your Canvas straight and that's something I wasn't used to do. But for this one, you have to just color in some leaves. And that's why you make the sketch already. And sometimes tilt your lift your pencil bit. So you can see the texture from the canvas brush. And now you can see already come in a see-through of the colors behind it. So that's very lovely. At least I think it's lovely. So use that. Those are marks you can't be doing afterwards. You can add new colors, but you can't get rid of colors. So make sure you don't wish to your Pentheus. And four here we do the same. Just let those colors shine through. I'm on the correct layer, yes. Sometimes I have to check because I want these on different layers. So here you can see as much line and it will give exactly where the flower petals. So that's just awesome. So use those smudge lines for your end results. And it's hard. I'm holding my hand back because otherwise I will turn the page too much. So I'm holding my end very awkward right now, just to keep myself from turning the canvas. So now I've done that, I'm going to maybe add some more color to it. So I'm going to take the blue one and make it a little bit more gray because in these kind of petals, the shadows will be great. I will keep my sunlight coming from up here. So my shadows will be also in the heart of the flowers. But also little bit on this part. So maybe some here, just some timing and dumping. And I'm going to smudge that with the same brush shall hold your pencil at the smudge tool, and it will turn into the same brush and just pull it in and out. So tapping, Do you hear my brush? So there you can see to get more color into it and just play with it. Just don't go all the way this because you get one smear and I don't like that. So play with it but not too much. And you see it's just a messy kind of coloring. But I like that. If you know me by now, you know that I liked it a lot, just let go and let things happen. Don't be too specific and let go of your perfectionism. And I think I would like some more blue in it. So I choose my stripe blue and give it some depths every now and then. It's hard to stay random. And because orange and blue are the opposite colors of each other, the complimentary colors I also like to add in some orangey right next to it or near it. And I will do the same like I did just now. But very careful because you don't want to smudge the blues and orange together. So just make it happy little accidents. Complimentary colors are perfectly fine next to each other, but when you blend them, equal gets a nasty color. So that's why you don't want to have them blending too much. So like for example, I'm pulling this up and pulling these orange down. And it'll all make sense later. Maybe not now. I maybe saw very bright pink Much them as well. Make sure you're much in the direction of the petal. That's the best way to smudge. So don't go sidewards, but always in and outwards. So I think I like it like this already. And now what I always do, and I don't know why exactly. I'm go over it with white again, but just with a slight Dutch, because when you do a hard line, it will get liked it, but if you do a soft line, you'll see the texture. So make sure again, go sheet or your hand or whatever to keep the Canvas straight. And I couldn't do this in the same layer. I can do this also in an audit layer, but just by going over it slightly. I'm also pulling down the colors when I'm in the same layer. So I'm just going to make it align that with white again all over it. And I'm pouring a little bit of the color in like this. So just softly. And there you have your painted flower. And let's go and do the heart of flower. I'll go do it at all, Not layer. So I start with a darker color below and I'm going to lighten my color. So I think I will go for, does one make it a little bit more brownish with the same brush, again, just the lower part of the heart. So just like this shape, stepping on dubbing, I'm going to go to an orangey color, make it smaller. Tipping a dubbing. Make it more over oval shape again. Going to bright yellow and then go into some white. And here I guess I have too much white, so I go back to my bright yellow again. Just very soft touches. Everything will come back later. So now we're going to do the stems of the flowers and forward flowers. We are going to go and make a layer below the flowers because the stems are behind the flower. And this is an easy one, and it's very quickly. So we still have our same brush. We go to our greenish color and just fill in the shape. I'm I on a layer below the flowers. Yes, I am. So I guess start behind the flower. So that's not hard. So and for these ones, I'm going to do a two finger swipe to the right, so I have my alpha lock on. You now see a checkerboard right here. And that means I can only draw all the pixels shown on these layers are only I can draw between the lines, between the green lines here. So I can take a slightly lighter color green. No, I want a darker color, green. You know, my shed of my light was from here and my shadow was from here. So I've got make already a dark line here. And a little bit of dark where the flower is on top of the stem. And I've handled it also here. This is my dark line, but here we get sham light again. So here it will be darker on this side and four, even brighter color. I'm toning it to a little bit yellow, green. And I'm going to blend that in. So that's why I chose to, um, do an alpha lock so I can stick between these lines and I could easily blend those. So I go to my smudge tool again, and also in an upward and downward moving. So to complement the lines your stem is growing in, so don't go all over again. And I think this one is finished. So let's go to give some more energy to this painting in the next chapter. 6. Adding Outlines for Expression and Fun to the Flowers: So we're now, I don't need those sketch layers, so I'm going to put it off and we're going to create a new layer on top of everything we just painted. We go to black. And if we go to the messy drip liner. So this is a brush which is also pressure sensitive. So when you put a hard line, it will leave more stains. And when you pull soft line, you won't see it as much. You can play also indifferent. Six of the lines. Maybe I use nine or eight, something like that. And we're going to roughly fill the shape of the flower. So like a petal, we don't go check it out like this. Now, we're going to do it roughly. So well. Fast lines make a variation of your pressure sensitivity. And for this, you can easily twist your Canvas, does no harm for deaths. This wasn't good at all. Make sure you can do this. That's fun. That's fine. But make sure you don't stop here. What I did, so learn from my mistakes. So Just and sometimes you have to undo that very much. Make quick lines and make it fun. And organic looking. Too big, but a little bit bigger is okay with me. And sometimes why you don't see the line where you want that you can always make adjustments later. That's okay. And I want to give it more energy, so I'm going to do it again, but with a slightly bigger, like 12 or 11. And go make some ones around them. Which is totally out of shape, but still come in from the heart. And we're going to erase what's in the heart of the flower, so don't bother dead too much. So I can erase now these parts and the flower, flower, I don't want it there. And I think I've already created a nice one. So let's do the stem right away. And you can create some lovely shapes in it. And just some green goals like you used for me. So now we go over to this one. Just with fun and 0s, don't worry. It's not that precise, but it has to give you the right feel. So check every once in a while if you like the lines, you drew. The second layer of lines. It's just a fun and messy way of painting. So like days, we go old way again here and just create some sketchy and fun lines would in It's just gave it to swing. And now let's go to the heart of the flowers. So there's a little bit of darkness go along here, just scribble and table and let your brush do the work of randomness. Let me just end up here and there just to give it some texture and movement. That will be fine. And now let's go to a layer on top of debts. And we're going to do approximately the same to the flower with a white color. So I do it on a different layer because sometimes I don't like it or sometimes I want to make adjustments so I know where to draw or erase, but not erasing the brick black lines. So because they are very energetic, that would be harmful. I went Coby a slightly bigger 13 percent. Because why it isn't as feasible. And you see it instantly gives another dimension to the flower. Again. You see it's already brightening up the drawing. And this is so much fun. I like this brush so much. So make sure we go into erase the part here. That's why we were on a different layer. So now it's time to add some more fun. 7. Spice up the Background with Stripes and Splatters: So for the fun part, I go back to my black again, make sure I'm on the message lip liner and I'm going to follow the strokes of the leaves a bit. So I'm going to give it a lot more movements. So I'm just sketching some stripes like so. And following the path of the petals. And I think that's enough around the flower. Maybe I want a bit thicker, almost too small, maybe a little bit more feasible. So I go to 18, Let me see. Yes, that's what I like more. And I'm always also going to do it randomly in the back. Like it's a windy day and a festive confetti behind it. So, and I'm also going to do that. White. Just some random stripes in the back. Close white will brighten your painting. So just a few. And now let's create another layer on top of dead one. And let's go to the splatter brushes I created for you. I know I have to name them. I will do that for you. So the first one is splatter brush, which has these dots connected. That's fine. But if you do more of these platters, I hope I zoom in. If we do more of the splitters, it will be annoying because they are repetitive. So it would be fun to have done, but also fun to not have them. So I erase that part from this one. So now dare lose. So it's more random splitter. I will call it random and joint, joint and random. And this one is just another brush with a lot of other templates and define dots, you know, for me so you can point it where you want. So let's get start, started and let's get Dose splitters going on. So I start with the first one. Let me see. What color do I want to use? I want to use my blue because blue is opposite color of orange, the complimentary color. So blue will jump out. So I start with that one. Let me see how big do I want it? Yes, there. And they're just randomly type it in. It will be festive anyway. Also, I want to have some orange on the flowers. You won't see Orange Fairy year very much here. But I can use some yellow. And I go to my next brush because I don't want them to be all the same. So when instantly it will already be very festive one. So let me see what I can do next with those fine dots. Let me see. I can do some of the really art pink. I think I like that and maybe I do it on a different layer. Within the flowers. Just little bits. And always the latest I'm turning into why it again, right? And a lot of your painting. And I think I already created a one festive party here. But now, now let me show you what the value layer is all about. I will show that to you in the next chapter. 8. Use the Value Check for a more Interesting Painting: So for this failure layer, which now is turned off, when I turned it on, it will make your painting turn into black and white instantly. For now, this looks like a very happy and bright picture, but you will see it's very flat and colors only the white and black a stand out. And here we have a lot of colors that are the same. We have to play a little bit lighter and darker to make it more interesting. So maybe behind the flower here a little bit of shadow and America more highlight on top of deaths and here, so also a bit shadow. So what I'm going to do for debt is go on top of your background, but behind the flowers there I'm going to create an overlay layer. And this is very fun because the overlay layer will darken or brighten the colors which are underneath when you use black and white. So it brightens with whites and it makes it more popping out. And also the darker colors will get more saturation. So let me start with black first. And I'm going to my acrylic all-rounder, one color for that. And I'm just going to end up with a larger brush size behind it. So you see instantly. It gives me more excitement to my painting. And I just do it randomly. I can smudge. It's like sometimes. And also it's fun to do it on if you have a bright spot, just do it also on top of death because you will now won't see it very hard. But there will be slight color difference, difference in that one later on. Also, this one is bright. One color week. And now I'm going to use the white one on top of that. And you know, it's lighter up here. It's just some fun. And we're going to smudge that a little bit in a big size, but dance much it out because I want to leave those textures of the brushes in it. So and now today, let me, let me look at what he has done for your picture. So turn it off again and you're instantly see that your picture is Brighton so much. So now you can I will show you what it what it was before. It was this. And I would say this. So that's very interesting. And now you can play with that, or if you want to make some changes to it by erasing, well, maybe some stepping and dopamine the same brush will do the trick for you. When you think there's too much going on. And smudge a bit where again, we don't see much of the color variation there, but maybe I've smudged it already too much. But I think it's lovely and festive anyway. So now you see what lighter and darker colors can do to your painting. So I do this a lot with paintings lately. So I put a layer on top of it with color with turns you into a instantly into black and white one. So now this one is way more fun than this one to look at, you know, directly, this is an interesting piece because it's interesting already now it's even in black and white. So with or without the one, with or without the one. So you see what a huge difference it makes for a painting. This is fine, but this is way more sparkly a festive. Oh, I see. I've forgotten something. I want to have some fine dots in hearts as well. So I go to my heart and go on top of deaths, go to my fine dots again and make them sign. That's why they called fine dots. I'm going to yellow and black and go to white again. On top of that. I am a physical layer. Must be feasible, but maybe not feasible enough. So let me check if I can move it on topic. I think I'm way under the sketch, the sketchy lines. So I'm going to move this on top. Yes, Now I see them more here. All the way out. Play long enough. The results, I'm looking for a little bit of bright pinkish. And now I have all the festive colors again. Yet. Now I'm happy with it. So I hope you liked this class and learned a lot about how I do my festive and heavy paintings. I will walk you through one again, once again. So we created a background first, which we make a lot of these layers which will turn out as these confetti later on. When you will do this on a background you've totally colored in. You will never get the randomness like you do this time. So that's why this technique is so very fun to create and just let it happen and go with the flow. So every painting would be different. No matter what. You can also copy these layers for a new painting. Make sure you're going to twist it or flip it, or turn it around so you don't have every painting with the same colors. I made some mistakes and if you watch closely, you see me do that a lot. You can use this one, you can even copy this one, or you can create a new one like this on top in a different color or different shapes or make this smaller confetti or whatever you want, but keep this safe so you can always reuse it later. It's very, very convenient to have this because when you have to do this all the time for every drawing, it's very, it's very boring. And I don't like boring and I like to do quick paintings and quick work. So we did the background first, then we did a sketch of our subjects. We did color it in, and then we did the outlines and the messy outlines from it. And we created some lovely dots of splits and energetic lines. And for the last part we played along with the value layer and with an overlay layer directly beneath the background, we played with light and darker and more popping colors. So that's a quick recap of this class, and I hope you like it. And for these kinds of paintings, I always like to give my signature. And I do this a little bit bigger. Mostly I do. It's mostly I do. It's very small. About for these ones. I like it bigger on a new layer all the way on top. Let's see. Because it would look more fun this way. My name could be on top of it. Your name in your case, but when you do it slowly, it's doesn't fit the drawing, I think so. When it's like this, it's hmm, I don't like it as much and I like it bigger, maybe even bigger. So that's fun. And you can also write on top of it. So if you'd like, go to your inking and choose your dry ink brush. I used a lot for it. I will put it in afterwards because I've played with it too much. And you can write something like happy birthday or something. So it's way too big. I've played with mine, so I don't yes. And write that with playful letters as well. Because the painting is joyful and full of energy. So create like this. And on a new layer, put birthday, I hope I have space enough. It just came around quickly. Bigger and small letters, whatever you like, just play and make it playful. Oh, I forgot an H. You know, English is not my first language. Well, you already guessed that, I guess. So I make a selection. You see my mistakes. Move it there, cause lamb maybe there, I can put it back anyway. So I can pop in a letter h where Earth Day and bulk days right back by selecting it again. And now I think this won't match too much. So I can play with this again by selecting the a and the y. And so, and I can play with the whole word and make it fit a bit like so, maybe a little bit bigger. So and when I'm happy with that, I'm going to group this and go into flattened days. Duplicate. Go to the one below, create a black one for that. So to choose black top, select step, fill layer again. So my line underneath is black now. And now my lines are very more feasible by tipping to move it a little bit more to my shadow side. So now you create it's an awesome birthday card for someone. But when you do that, make sure your name then is very small because you are not seeing yourself a happy birthday. So just a quick fun cart for you. You can mail it to, you can print it out and send it or do it on the print on-demand service for you. So now you have collected a very festive guard in just a couple of seconds. So I hope you liked this projects. Let's see if we can do another one. 9. Project Sheep Part 1: So now let's create an animal and we're going for sheep. So I'm going to duplicate the Canvas first. And I could totally draw a new background now, but I'm going for speed of this class to copy one from a former drawing. I did. So I go back to the bottom layer. I hit Copy. Let me see copy. Go back to my gallery and go to my Canvas and hit paste. So I now instantly got this as my own background. And if you have your own background, you can also twist it around, like rotate it, or flip horizontally or vertically. So you don't have exactly the same background every time for the college at the same spot. So this is my first layer and I'm on top, I'm going to draw a bluish one for this guy. So am I only new layer? Yes, I'm going to go to my brush again and my one color brush. And I'm going to do the part all over again. And we're back. I've sped it up a little bit. So the smaller oh, I see. I missed some points at the top. The smaller you create your field below, the smaller your confetti will be. So make sure you create some difference in the two have for you to grab instantly. So that will be fun. For this one. I'll keep it from here and I'll show you what I do with the next layer. I'm going to add a photo, go to the wrench tool, go to Add, insert a photo. And here there are some photos I've picked from Unsplash and D. These are free to use, but make sure you don't copy them exactly. Like for instance, I've got this one, mix a little bit, always does one for my sheep. And I also looked at other sheet because year has a lot of more wool on its head and here it's fully covered. I like the black nose from here, not the Weidner pinkish knows from here, but I like the fact he had his tongue stuck out. So I'm going for this photo. So I select this photo and I import it. And you could eat, you could draw, but if you're not such a good drawer or you can play with it a little bit. So what I did was I took it and I move it a little bit like this. So that's one happy sheep. And I think it's funny because its ears are a little bit outside of the page. So that's what I like to make it more whimsical like so. And I'm going to lower the opacity a bit. So it's barely visible again. And now I'm going to trace it roughly because I don't want an acceptably replica of the sheep. So I'm going to create a new layer on top, go to black at my pencil. And I would say, the nose will be around here somewhere. Here is rough shape here. We use mouse, the snout and they speak. Ers is some rough edges. He's eyeballs that are very well-known for sheep. So I would suggest you have done covered so. Well down there. And four here we go. Gets some hair, some wheelchair. Here is his job. Somewhere here and here is all will again. So that's the rough sketch we're going to use for this one. Is even his mouth hair and is little tongue sticking out. Maybe you can move it a little bit sideways so not not to straits. I'm going fairly quickly here, I know that, but it's just to keep the speed of the clause going to move like a dam because it slips. So I think this is a pretty brutal sheep. Some eyelashes here. So we mustn't forget that. And then we could get rid of this one. We're not going to use it anymore because I don't want it to be too precise. So we're going to roughly paint along this drawing. What I'm going to do for my reference is just Canvas and do my reference and add in the same sheep so I can look at it whenever I want. So import image. Go back to the same sheep and now I can pull it sideway. A little bit smaller will be easy. Yes. So now it's just there for me to glimpse at if I want. So let's go back to this painting. I know I want the wall to be white, but I want the sheep's head to be colored. And you see here is some lighting from the sun and he or she shadow. So we're going to use bright colors, but we're going to do use the cool colors on the left side and the warm colors, more warm colors on the right side. That, that's an overall look. So I could easily add a cool color on the right side, but the most of the colors will be the warm colors. So I hope I explained that well. So I'm going back to the lower part. I edit this one, this word colors, which I used before, and I know they will be correctly. So use one we used for the flowers and is this more saturated color and this is a little bit in-between that so slightly different columns, but you can play along with what you like. So first of all, I'm going to shade if sheep's head and I want to add some color into his face and I know I want a warm and bright colors on this side and what cooler colors on that side. So let's add in some color and my own new different layer. No, I'm not. I'm going on a layer below my sketch because I want my sketch to be more feasible, but I'm lowering the opacity. So it's not way too much in my face and I'm going to turn it to multiply so it will be feasible at all times for me. So now I'm going to my all-rounder one color and I'm going to coloring somewhere here. And again, I'm also going to play with the layers underneath. So sometimes I let them shine through because that's what I like. So I put some yellow here and I also, I'm going to put directly some yellow on the other side. So I still have a bit of yellow there as well. And a little bit on this air. It's just to keep the drawing imbalance so more here, but also a little bit there is to keep it a little bit balanced. And I'm going to use some here. And some blue is not much feasible, but it will be here. Adding some blue. We're adding some purple is just a little bit of laying down colors now so far. And I'm going to do some pinkish within the ears. It's rough shape, you know, not to art. And to go to the purple again and adding some darker color in here as well. And we can play it along with that. I can play along with that four hours. So little bits of shadow. So a cooler color here and play a bit with orange, because I like that being in their orange, purple and yellow are complimentary to each other, to the purple. Towards the, I think it was yellow is the purple and the yellow are complimentary, but I like to put in some orange as well. And maybe some red. Play little bit with the color variation and the size of the brush. A little bit pink here again. Just so you've covered the ears and the face is covered. Now you can play along with some brighter and lighter coat colors to mix them up. I want to use snouts to be, snout to be pink as well. To make it all pink. And I'm going to dive in with color afterwards. So some slider pressure, you know, here, some blue is see-through, but I like It's like this, so I'm also keeping the red here. I like a little happy accident, so that's what I do. I'm going to play with some white on top of it and just mix and match. So I know, for instance, as a little bit more light here, I'm going to play with my blue, are going to play with my yellow here. Mixing. This would also be a little bit lighter, catch more light here also, and this whole side base. So now I'm going to blend that. Remember, step in depth. Don't smudge it too much. Just play with it. And you can always easily add in some more color if you like. So you see with the blending, I got a little bit more colors in here and I like that. So I'm going to leave that. I like those happy accidents. Seems like it was done on purpose, but it isn't always that way. Especially not with me. It's just lucky coincidences. And it's just enough blending to you like the color. I can't tell you exactly when to stop or not. And I can keep playing with this for hours. So I hope I'll get there in time. So I get more joy out of this for you. So brighter yellow, some more lighter yellow, maybe almost to whites. And mix and match that again, just keep those strokes happy. Well, I guess you see what I'm talking about here. And it's weird now, just like this, but it will all make sense in the end. 10. Project Sheep Part 2: I'm going to layer on top of this, I'm going to leave these rest for a little bit. I am going to create more sheep like shapes. Now I'm going to add my white. So I will get a clear or more clear vision of how the shape is going to be. And I'm going to pull that on in round strokes. So some harder, some lighter, and just keep a little bit of color shining through. So that's okay. Just circular shapes. And suddenly you're already an F color variation in your role. So that's fun. I'm going to do the snout right now, the nose of the sheep. I'm not going all the way black. I'm going in with a slightly gray and I can use a black later if I like. So I'm going to color it in my own new layer. I'm going to create a new layer. It's a little bit over. What is it? It's kind of shaped like a heart shape. That's way lower than this. I can do it different ways. I could move it with liquefy if I want. So I'm going to pull this in a little bit. But sometimes you could easily lose texture. We can play little bit with it. And otherwise we have to do the line or we can erase parts. But I wanted to show you this is also an option. So it is a way to shape your nose again. And on top of that we're going to make something light. So a little bit lighter. I'm just going to mix it straight onto the color so it's very soft so you can easily see the, so all the way pull down. Like it's easily with this show see-through from the back. That's great. And I'm going to take it all the way. Black wave, very smaller size. And I'm going to dive into now SHE and make its nostrils very dark. And I'm also going to blend that a little bit. Smaller size. And here you've got this little nose already. It's not that hard, it's just having fun. I'm going to make his Let me see. I'm going to make it dark in here a little bit. You see these areas also little bit dark and around his mouth. And I'm going to do that with purple. Same brush still the same brush. I'm going to blend it in a little bit. Not too much purple, so I'm going to pour it a little bit back. Yes, a range of purple will be left later. And then now noticing I'm on the same layer as the nose is, but it's fine with me. I can all blend them in together. If I want to smudge them even more, I'm going to stop now. And I wanted to be a little bit read from the shadow underneath it. Maybe smaller. Makes it a little bits. It's just to your own feeling. This is just how I do this. There's no specific way in telling you how to do this. Adding some highlights on this size. And I think we've got that part covered. Two. I'm going to do the eyes. I'm going to create a new layer for the eyes. The eyes I'm going to do rather dark. Not all the way back, just yet, just darker. They are not all the way feasible justice triangle on this side. And let me see. And like this, some part of like so. And now I accidentally skipped a piece, but that's okay. There's something I want to be there. And on the other eye, it's also a triangle shape with part of also follow this triangle. And I will zoom in part of an oval. And you can see some reflections in it. So it's highlighted from the upper part and dark in the middle. And it's got a little bit lightens. On the downside. It's a fleshy it's reflecting off for, so we're going to do that. Maybe I'm going to smudge this one a little bit of itself. And so I've got a little lighter reflection. Simply, just a little bit lighter. On the bottom part. Makes his eyes more alive, slightly lighter. And almost whites. It's all parts. And I'm going to smudge that also a little bit. And suddenly when you zoom out a bit, he's got some nice colored eyes near. I'm missing the black part in the middle, so adding a little blackish and a super white dots at the top. Too large. So now he's got sparkling eyes allover. I want to make more contrast around the eyes. And I will do that with a red color. And I think this also wonderful with the purple. And I'm going to add some red here as well. Well, I add its sum here. Yes. I like red and purple together. I know it's not correct to the correct colors. I smashed in some black somewhere. What did I do? What did I do? Yes, it's new layer of the eyes. So I'm going to erase it. I think I moved something. And I think I now going to do the messy lines. Don't get rid of the sketch layer. And then I'm going to see if there's anything I can add to create some more movement. So I'm going to do this even less. So just like here and I'm ready, I've got a cheap pair. So that's funny. And go to my pure black messy liner, drip liner brush. And I'm going to draw some messy lines. I'm going to use them a bit thicker. I'm going to get rid for this for now. So I can see my lines a little bit. So let me check. Let's go here, there. And let just play with pressure and the movement of the brush. The ayes have that same line, that strict line that she pass. And a snouts will be like so too low. Maybe some little excellence in his nose right here. I can make some hatches weekdays to darken it even more. I can play with the outlines a little bit. Not from the wall because the wall will be in front of his face a little bit. So I'm going to let it be and create some circular movements and full of energy. I think that's very cheap like right? Well, at least in my imagination. And then we can create some scribbled lines like like so. And just, wow, this is sometimes I, I do something like this, no use at all, but it's adding some movement to it. So this is one I'm going to do on top of his face. It's just my way of drawing some lines. And sometimes I like them and sometimes I don't. I think the last one is with a bit too much. But I think it adds more. He needed lashes. I can exaggerate them. That's what I like. So, but the black isn't all feasible. So I turn right into white again to give it some extra movement. And if it's too wide, I'm concerning to black, That's lovely parts and we can always go back and do something on top of it again. And let me see what I have some bigger lines. Will think he had something right here. Let me make this larger again. You see these folds here. I like when there's no spots there too low, I think this was funny. Look too much in its way. And of course the outline forest tongue will be there. Okay, I'm getting a little bit thicker lines, maybe even thick and it's a little bit more. Yeah. The lines to dark into shadow underneath everything could be thicker. It's way more expressive like that, so we can add some more. This is too much. But you know what I mean? Just, just play and exaggerates and have fun with it and create some fun parts. 11. Project Sheep 3rd and Final Part: He also has a little bit of hair so you can make slide hairs. And the front part here, we can also see some, some lovely loose here. And round is chin little bit. So now I think I don't like that part. That's way too big. My eraser. I don't mind if it stays a little bit on there. That's fine. It's just happening. It's just the happy face. My former one, I gave a nose ring. I will I will show that to you. So I took my orange first going to create a new layer. So when I, if I don't like it, I can always erase it again. Go to my one color and light it up with little bit of yellow and some lighter yellow until whites. So now suddenly it looks like a golden ring. And dare you know, we have one fabulous brush in Procreate, native brush, It's called luminance. And there you have your flare. And that's something I would definitely want on there. Maybe not as big as this, but just to make it shine and book a little bit brighter. It's just the fun part in this painting. And I think we can create a little bit more festivity behind the sheep. So I think my sheep is now ready. We're going to do some sparkles. Let's get rid of this one again. Closed. So let's go and create some particles and festivity behind it. So we go on top of the background layers and create some movements, again with the crib liner brush. And we go create some lines and hey, it's party instant Bharti. A little bit black lines. Do we do some black lines? Yeah, we can create some small black lines as well. So in the shape of the sheep again. So that would be fun. And I'm going to create some highlights again for this, I'm all going to make some different layers on top. So I'm going to my y's and I think I could use some white lines here as well. And here. And maybe something big. Nose to brighten up is day. Just to give it more light and tension. Sometimes. Where am I, where am I going to be on? That one? I want that layer to be feasible. When this is too dark at some highlights, when this is too dark at some highlights. So you can play along with debts. Some rim light we call it a and a dark side. You have some rim lights, so I like it like this, maybe a little bit blue in here as well. And this is the part I mess up with my layers constantly because I think I'm doing a great job and I think I can hit dead here and there. So it's just not thinking about my layers, just having fun with coloring and. Creating, so sometimes I'm way out of my head with layers. So maybe some little reds, epi, things also happening, do that on a new layer again. So if I don't like them, I could easily get rid of them. Some yellow shade, lighter color, so it will be more feasible as well. Maybe as much, that's a little bit. And now I'm getting to my newsletters, splitters, pledge splitter. And that I always do on a new layer on top. So I get some layers were empty. So I joined in with the colors I used. So mostly it will be orangey and letters that are in my way I can always erase because when something is in the eye or a denotes, I don't like erase them, so just, just have fun and play with them. And I saw something in and knows I don't like so I can get rid of them. I don't mind this one, but these are No, I don't like so much here. And take your other splatter brush and take another color, maybe some green. You haven't used green much. And always for me and with some white. The last one was too much. So I'm going to erase a couple of them, but assure wants a couple in his face. So that's why I'm doing it anyway. So I think we've got a shelves are crazy ship like now. And for the sheep, the very last thing we want to do is check out. Is it lovely enough? I see some dark, I see some lines, but it could use some more. So let's get to create a new layer. I'm doing this on top of everything right now. Put it on overlay because I don't just want to do the background, I want the whole beak of the sheep as well. So overlay again here it is, using the big brush, very large. And let's see what it does. We can also, because when I see it is now it's very light. But we can also see what it does when we and create more opacity on that. So let's just play. These could be very bright. And a little bit here. Here. Here I want some brightness, extra little base on this side. So and this can be brighter. And the darkness with the black, we can create it here. A little bit within the eye, ears. Little bit beam or ice. And we just play with that and it suddenly is looking more interesting already. So I think we could play with that. It doesn't do much on whites because it's an overlay. But I think that one was too dark out there. Let me see what it does. When I turn it off. Well, instantly, we already having another color and some more fun. But I think the wide is way too hard. So I'm going to drop the opacity like I told you, I think I would show you see it now it's just there, but not too much. This was without it. And now we have some brightening colors and maybe we can smudge that again. So get rid of this hard line here. Smooth now this one a little bit, not too much. So you can play. And it suddenly is more interesting than we had before. Without its, so these walls, how we'd once and with adding the overlay layer with dark and light, it's more enjoyable to watch, so it has more color and saturation and brightness in its now. So that's why I want to show you and keep that layer in your minds. You can use it on top of any canvas just by making a black layer and turn it to your color blend mode. Bonus Christmas Ornaments: And for a short bonus of this class, because Christmas is always around the corner, I will do some Christmas ornaments for you. So I duplicate McKeon first. First again, I'm going to do the easy way, like importing a confess I already made before. So I'm going to my layers, copy this one. So that saves me a lot of time. Also less boring for you. So I paste it in here. I'm going to rotate it two times, so it's different colors in different corners now. And for Christmas, I want a different background, so I'm choosing my black first and I'm going to do the magic again. Or I can import. Yes, I can import this one right away. Copy and paste. And now it's not fitting because, you know, I twisted it twice, rotate it twice, and now it's completely fitting. And for this one, I want it black, as I told you. So I go to hue, saturation and brightness and brighten it all down. I think this is a cute way to start my coloring. And on top of this one, I'm going to create bloop. And I'm going to create a darker blue, like a Christmas tree blue, maybe more bluish, like so. And I hope if I enjoyed this color, I will edit into you. In for you. I'm going to do a new layer on top of this one again, do my magic with my acrylic rounder or cheer like coal, the multi-color. Now, multicolor, we'll set up some different colors and I'm all show, I'm also will showing some black through. So this will be fun. So I'm tapping and dabbing now. And here you will see multiple variations of my blue. And I think this could be a little bit darker, but we can create another layer on top of that again. Or maybe this color will be fine. But you see with the same color pallets, you can get totally different backgrounds. And it's fun to see some black hair in there. Because, you know, for Christmas it will be allowed. And even those tiny little pieces can be in there. That's great. Do lift your pencil every once in a while so the colors will change slightly. It's just a very little variation, but I think that's how I did it again. Welcome in this color palette, I think that slightly color combination, changing seas roughly shaped around and I see some black here and there, but I think that's very funny for this one. So I'll leave it like this. So just a messy way of randomizing your background. And I think it's already thumb. So now I'm going to create the Christmas ornaments on top. So on this new layer, I'm going to draw my Christmas ornaments with the 6 B pencil and let me see what we can do. So I want a round ball. I'm draw very round shape. So some of them will be round enough. And here I'm going to draw some ornaments like this. Some smaller, smaller, and just adding some drop. And it's way hooked. So I'm going to use my liquefy again and put it all in the right spot. So it has to be a little bit straight, not too perfect, That's fine. Move a little bit more to this side. So they are approximately both in the middle. And I'm going to make them wide so it's more feasible for you. Selects and fill layer. So it's now whites to see easily for you. And I'm going to dive in straight in with a color. And I'm going to dive in with this big. So on a new layer, I'm going to dive in with the acrylic rounder one color. And again, it's fine if you can see a little bit of the blue and the colors underneath it, and it doesn't have to be perfect, so just make it a fun, roundish shape. Everybody will know what it has to be in the end, so don't bother too much. Just a fun and easy, quick drawing to ease your minds. And now we already can get rid of this layer. What I'm going to do next is instantly do the outline. So for me, it will be more recognizable what it would be. So I'm going directly to my drip liner and I'm going to draw a square on top of this rectangle. So where the ornament is hanging from the rectangle, I'm going to put in some little stripes.
