How to create educational portrait for Instagram? But before I teach you how to make them, let me tell you why are they important and how they helped me gain more than 300,000 followers on all platforms in just 2 years.

Ok so what are educational portrait videos? These are the videos which all the mobile first platforms like Instagram, Tiktok, Pinterest and Snapchat etc prefer and promote. Since they are mostly short and easy to consume on mobile, they get tons of views and engagement. And to be honest they are the reason of my own success on Internet as a creator.

So, that is why I created this mini course in which I will walk you through my own process of making these videos. What are the tools which I use, how to set up any software for portrait recording, how to record these videos, and finally how to export them in best possible quality for any mobile first platform?

Can’t wait to see you in the course and I hope that you really love it :)

Teaching design in my passion because in my early years as a designer I always wanted quick and easily tutorials through which I could learn design but there was no platform like Skillshare in that time. So, I took on the challenge to teach design with short and to-the-point tutorials here on Skillshare.

In terms of Design, I have been employee, employer, a failed business owner and now a successful teacher. Basically I have been in all the positions and I know exactly the problems people face in terms of design.

I'm located in Pakistan where there isn't value of design. So, I took on the challenge to educate the local audience but then ended up having thousands of students from all over the work.

1. Introduction: How do great education portrait videos for Instagram? But before I tell you how to make them, let me tell you why they are important and how they helped me gain more than 300 thousand followers on all platforms in just two years. Okay, so vata educational portrait videos. These are the videos which all the mobile first platforms like Instagram, Tiktok, Snapchat, and Pinterest, etc. Prefer and promote. Since they are short and easy to consume and mobile, they get tons of views and engagement. And to be honest, they are the reason of my own success on Internet as a creator. So that is why I created this course in which I will walk you through my own process of creating these videos, which are the tools I use, how to set up any software for portrait recording, how to record these videos. And finally, how to update and export these videos in the best possible quality for any mobile first that form. So I can't wait to see you in the course and I hope that you really love it. 2. Download Required Softwares: Hey guys, welcome to the first class of the course. And in this class we are going to learn with softwares. Do we need to start making portrait tutorials and how to download them basically. So if I come over here, if I click on this tutorial on my profile, you can see we are going to make something like this over here. Why is it taking so long to load? Okay, so you can see that I have Photoshop over here, and this is a tutorial I made on photoshop. And if I open Photoshop over here, you will see that this is the interface of Photoshop. So how did I make this tutorial over here? So that is the whole purpose of this course. Let's download the software which we need. Let me minimize this. And you can see we basically need to software. And the third one is optional. And let me show you what they do. Okay, So the first one is OBS. I am already recording this whole video on OBS, so it is a video recording software. The second one is After Effects. It is for editing videos. So you can use any video recording software and then any video editing software. Basically you need these two and the third one is sought soft. So what does sorts of do? Let me show you. If I click over here, you can see that if I want to point out anything, I can simply press a key on my keyboard. And you will see that soft sorts of is showing it like this. Let me restart this because when you change the resolution, it messes up the whole thing. So let me show you again. So let's just say I want to point out over here when I will press the key, it will show this part. So yeah, let me come to Chrome over here and let me show you how you can download the software. So simply write OBS. On Google, click on the first link and you can download OBS. And depending upon your OS, if you're on Mac or Windows or Linux, you can download it. And similarly, you can write After Effects. And you can get Adobe subscription and download After Effects if you want to download the crack equation, I wouldn't judge you built I wouldn't recommend it because it is highly unethical. But yeah, I would recommend you to get get it from Adobe. And the last one is sorts of, so you can write WO already. So FDA just one word, sorts of simply click on this. And you will have to just download this software over here. Simply click over here and you can download it. Yeah, This was very simple. And just this editorial was just to let you know how you can with SOPHAS you need and how to download them. So I guess this is pretty much it and I will see you guys in the next class. 3. Setup Software In Portrait: Welcome back guys. So in this class we are going to learn how can you set up your software for recording portrait tutorials. So if I open up Photoshop over here, you can see that this is the interface over here. And if I open my one of my tutorials over here, you can see that this is the interface. So how did I do this? And this is the whole concept of this course. So let me minimize this. And before we start, let me tell you something that if you keep on working on this resolution, your icons will be really small. So you can see that they are very tiny. And they are not feasible if you are making tutorials for Instagram or any other ported platform. This might be possible, might be useful if you are using if you are posting your tutorials on YouTube. But for now we are just governing Instagram and similar platforms. So the one thing which I like to do is I right-click on the desktop, go to display settings. And over here I changed that resolution. Most other monitors coming these days are 1920 by 1080. I have the same one. So you can click on this, or maybe you have resolution of one above this. You will simply have to set it to 1280 by 720. So when you will click on this, the resolution of your whole system will change. Click on keep changes. Let me close this and you can see that everything is so big. No, there is one more thing which I like to do. I simply come to the taskbar and I basically turn on hide taskbar. So when I will click on this, you can see that the task bar is gone and we have really clean interface over here. We don't want our audience to see these icons over here. So normally I will come to Photoshop. You will see that everything is so big. So this is how you can basically set it up. But there is one more thing which we need to do. Let me zoom out over here. So there are actually two ways to do this. Let me show you the first view. So what you can do is you can click over here and you can resize your Photoshop like this, because you want it to be portrait. And you can set it up like this player only with the panels over here and you can record your tutorial. And this will be like the mobile screen. But how do you perfectly fit it into the mobile screen? Let me show you how let me make this bigger again. So what we're going to do is we are going to do some magic in Photoshop. So if you don't know how to use Photoshop, I have a complete course on it, but this is very simple. And I guess you might be able to do it on any other editing software as well. So what we're going to do is we are going to create a new document and it will be 1920 by 1080. Click on Create. And then I'm going to select the shape builder, a solution authority shaped tool. So click on a tangle tool and simply click over here. And the size of this will be 1080 by 1350. So high it will be 1350 and simply hit, Okay, I can change its color as well. So let's change it to this color. And now I will simply place it over here and then I will resize it. So press Control or Command T and then resize it like this. So this is actually 1350 by it and 80. And that is the size of Instagram post basically. So now I'm going to click over here again and click again. And this time it will be 1080 by 1920. So if you are into making instagram Reels, so this is how you will be able to make them. So this is just a guide Khaled me, show you how we are going to use this. So let me zoom in over here and make sure that this is set properly. Simply press Enter and yeah, let's change its color. Maybe yellow. Okay, So now what we are going to do is we are going to save it. So I'm going to save it on my desktop. And let's call it guide. And let's save it as a JPEG and simply click on Save. Okay? So here is where the magic happens. But you can do is you can right-click on this and set it, set it up as a desktop background. So I'm going to click over here. And you can see that this is my desktop background, no. And now I can use this bedroom as a guide. Let me show you how I'm going to open Photoshop over here. And what I can do is I can basically resize my Photoshop. So if I put it over here and you can see if I move it like this, this is where the 13, this would be the end-all for 1350 by 1080. So I'm going to resize it like this over here. And I can move around these panels. So okay. So you can do it like this, move around the penance like this. And what happened will, what will happen is that you will have a line of panels over here like this. You, if you are, if you watch my tutorials, you will know that how, what I'm talking about and why do have extra panel over here. Okay? So you can see that this is the screen over here. Let's create a new canvas over here. Let's create 1080 by 1350. And if I zoom in over here, so this, how amazing this, this, let me resize this a little. So this is your canvas and you can create a whole tutorial over here. And later on you can cut off all of this in editing. So, yeah, basically this is how you create Porter tutorials. So I guess this is pretty much it on how to set up your canvas. When you are done setting up the Canvas, your software. And you can basically do this for any software in the world. Let's just say you are into making video editing tutorials or you are teaching or Microsoft Word to people. You can set a word in the similar way and you can teach it on mobile. So you can basically create a porter tutorials. So this first pretty much it on how to set up your software. And in the next class we are going to learn how can you record editorial and maybe we will record a simple tutorial as well so that we could later on edit it. In. Edited edge. Maybe show you a final portrait. So I hope you guys really like this class. See you guys in the next one. 4. How To Setup OBS For Recording: Welcome back guys. So in the last class we learn how can you set up your software for recording portray tutorials. And now we are going to learn how to actually record the tutorials. So we are going to use a software called OBS over here. We have already downloaded it and now we are going to use it. So yeah, you can simply double-click on it to open it. I have already opened it over here and let me show you the screen. So I have obvious opened here when you will open OBS for the first time, this is what it will look like. Don't get frightened by the interface. It is very simple. So basically, you are going to put an input source first. You have to create a scene. So we have a scene over here already. If you want to create another scene, you can click on Plus and create our scene and hit, Okay. I guess by default you already have a scene over here. So if I want to record my screen, I have to add a source for it. So there are audio and video sources in it. So what you can do is you can click on plus over here. And while I'm over here, let me turn on sorts of S well, so that I could show you how it works. So let me come over here, open source software, and this is how it works. So let's just say I'm making a tutorial and I want to show you, you have to click on this. So I will press a key on keyboard. You can set up a key for any key for sorts oft. And it is showing you this icon over here. So this comes in really handy. So first I will come over here, click on this plus over here, and I will add a video capture device. So there are different, sorry, not video capture device but Display Capture. So we do have cherries. If, if you want to add a camera, a webcam into OBS, and I want to actually show my screen to everyone. So I will click on Display Capture over here. So simply hit Okay. And then hit Okay, you can set up their dimensions properly. It is already said to 1280 by 720, which is the resolution we set up. Hit. Okay? And if you want to resize this, you can simply right-click on this transform and fit to screen. So now when we will record, everything will be, our screen will be recorded. Basically. There is one more thing which you have to do. You have to add an audio source so you don't have to add her camera, so you just need an audio source and display source. So I'm going to click over here again. And I'm going to click on audio input capture. Simply hit, Okay. And I can select a device. So I, my mike is Blue Yeti, so I'm going to select this one and simply hit, Okay, so now when I'm talking, you can see that this is going up again and again. And if I come really close to the mic and talk really loud, so this is going to the red. So when you are done, all you have to do is you will click on Start Recording. And then you will come over here in Photoshop and you will start making a tutorial. So I'm already recording this. It would, it would be a recording on top of recording. So I'm not going to click on Start Recording. What I'm gonna do is I'm going to make a short tutorial over here so that we could edit it later on. So I have this basketball over here and I thought, let's make a simple tutorial. So let's just say we are pretending that we are going to record our tutorial over here. So I have this basketball over here and I'm going to create a reflection effect on this. So I will go something like this. Hello guys, we are going to learn how to make reflection in Photoshop. So the first thing which we are going to do is you're going to click the Quick Selection Tool. Click on Select Subject. It will select or basketball. Then we're gonna come over here, create a mask on disk. We can also apply the mask on or basketball and now we will convert it. We will basically create a reflection of this. So we can duplicate this by pressing Control or Command J. Then press Control or Command T and flip it vertically. I'm going to bring it down like this. Go to Layers and bring it down over here as well. Then I will create a mask on this, go to Gradient tool and create a gradient over here like this, I guess a little more. And we basically have a reflection of our basketball. Let me move this up on it. And so this is how you can easily create our reflection of basketball in Photoshop. Okay, So I have recorded the tutorial and I will simply click on stop recording over here. Like I said, I was already recording this, so I'm gonna click on stop recording over here. And when I will do so, this recording will stop and I will have debt video file. So in the next tutorial, we are going to learn how you can edit that video file because we are recording everything over here, not just this part, we are recording all of this as well. So how do I cut off all of this so that we only have this part, so and we will be able to post it on Instagram or any other platform that supports ported video. So I'm going to stop recording now and see you guys in the next class. 5. How To Edit & Export Portrait Videos: Welcome back guys. So in the last class we learned how can you record your screen for portrait tutorials. And now we are going to learn how can you edit your files as well. So let me click over here on afterwards because I like to edit my videos in After Effects. You can use any video editing software you like. You can use Premiere Pro, you can use Fillmore. And there are other softwares on the, on the Internet as well. There are also a lot of free software, so you can use any one you like. The concept in all of them is basically the same. So this is the tutorial, and this was, this was a small tutorial which we made in the last class. And let me open up the files over here. And this was the file, let me copy this over here. And this, sorry, this was the file which we created four or tutorial. So let me paste it over here. Okay, so there's one more thing in OBS. When you are done recording, you have to set up your export seen as well, not export seen where you have to export your files. So if you click on settings over here, you will see there is output over here. And in recording, you have to set up the path. So I have already set up the path of four my files. This is where all of your recordings will go. So I think there should be a complete course on OBS as well, but we're not getting into nitty-gritties. We basically are learning how can we use the minimum of this software to get the job done? So make sure that you get file from over here. Let me cancel this, let me cancel this. So after Effects is open now and now we are going to edit our clip. So before we import, let's import the file first. So this was the file and let me import it into After Effects. Let me put it over here. And now if you are going to do is in aftereffects or any video editing software, you can basically set up your composition. So I'm going to teach you how to do it in After Effects. And you can basically Google to learn in other softwares as well. It is very simple. So I'm gonna go to composition over here, and I'm going to create a new composition. And I am going to set this as 1080 by 1350, because by default, the width and the height, or for any YouTube video is 1080 by 1920. By 1080 by 1920 actually, the width is 1920 actually. So I'm going to keep it at 1080 and keep this as 1350 because I've already recorded such videos before, but that is why it is giving me this option. You can set up their duration to maybe like five minutes because you are going to cut off a lot of the clip. I'm going to click on, Okay, over here. And as you can see that there is this empty composition over here. And it is actually the size of Instagram, which is 1080 by 1350. So now what I'm gonna do is I'm going to click over here, and I'm going to drag and drop my video file over here. So this was the whole tutorial which we were creating. What you can do is you can click on this and press control or command, sorry, it's Control Alt Shift G. Or if you're using Mac, it would be Command Option Shift G. And this way it will fit the whole video into this Canvas. So I'm going to drag this to the left over here. The, drag it to the light, or you can align over here, so you can click over here, align layers 2 and left. And now when I will bring this forward, you will see this is the whole editorial going on when I will come to the part where we actually recorded the tutorial, you will see how amazing is this. So you can see that this perfectly fits inside or canvas. And I can start where I recorded. I started coding tutorial. So I'm going to start from over here. I'm going to cut out all of this. So I'm going to cut this part. Again. This is a whole different thing on how to use After Effects. I'm just showing you how you can do how, how you can record, edit your recording. So this is our whole tutorial. And I guess I'm going to finish at this part. Okay? And I'm going to cut this out. Now. I'm going to finish the competition over here. And you can see this is our whole tutorial. So let's cut it out from over here so that it would be under one minute. So I'm going to put it over here and we have a one-minute tutorial over here. No, I'm not considering how I started all left it off. I'm just showing you how you can do this. You can, later on check if the start and the end unmaking cents. So now I have to simply export it. So I'm gonna go to Composition, add to Render Queue or I can export it to any other way. And I'm not going to export it in front of you because it's going to take a lot of time. There are no special settings in exporting. I guess there is one small setting. Let me add it to Adobe Media Encoder. It's going to take some time, I'm sorry, or I will just be speeded up. So I'm going to speed this up and I'm going to show you in Media Encoder vert setting you have to slit for exporting your file. Okay, so I have Adobe Media Encoder opened over here, and this is a software for exporting your files. So you can see that our file is over here. There is one small setting which you have to consider. Over here it says H dot H.264. Basically this is MP4. So if you click over here, it lets you select MP4 PNG. There are a lot of things, but make sure that this is set to H dot to 64 because this is the MP4 format. Simply click on this and you can export your file then. So yeah, this is pretty much it on how you can edit your videos in such a way that it would be in portrait format. I will export this file. And in the next class I'm going to show you this file, basically the final version of this file. And also we are going to learn how to add captions at the bottom. Because if you've seen any of my videos, you will see that there are captions at the bottom as well. And they are really hook your audience into your video. So I hope you guys really like this. I hope you guys are learning. See you guys in the next class. 6. How To Add Subtitles: Welcome back guys to. In this class we are going to learn how to add subtitles to your videos. So in the last tutorial, we learn how can you basically recorded tutorial? This is the final version. Let me open this soda, you could see it properly. So yeah, we have debt video in portrait mode and now we can upload it on Instagram or any other platform which supports this kind of videos as well. So let me close this and let me show you how you can add surprises there at the bottom. And if you are wondering where is the audio I actually turned off on purpose because I am talking as well and it would be weird if I'm talking to okay, so let me close this and let's add some subtitles to this video on this. So I have a paid software for this website which is called vid dot io. Okay, So it is actually free if I know I remember this. But if you are using the period version, you won't get watermark with us as well. So how do you add subtitle studio videos? I'm going to click on New Project over here. First of all, you will go to V dot io and click on New Project or upload your video. Then you can upload your video. This is the final video which we created and double-click on this. And here is the option of Subtitles to. If I click on this, it will give me the option to auto-generated subtitles. It will only give me the option after the video is uploaded. So it is like 90 version as soon as it is finished now it is letting me auto subtitle. So when you click on this, it will lead to like the language as well. Since I was speaking English in the video, I will click on Start. So now it is listening through the whole video. And after listening, it will auto-generate the subtitles. This is such a handy tool and there are other tools out there as well because Robert, I think V dot io is probably the one which I like to use the most. So depending upon the size of your video, it can take some time. But for a one-minute video, it usually takes like, I guess 15 to 30 seconds. So yeah, Subtitles are generated. And as you can see that all the subtitles are over here. If I move this to the right, you can see all the subtitles over or over here. Also. I just said remember this V dot io is also a video editing software. So everything which I did in After Effects, you can also do it on weed. So this is very simple. So I'm gonna come over here and you can see that the, all the subtitles are over here. And you can also style your subtitle. So I'm going to click over here. If I simply click on this. First of all, you can basically edit your subtitles if you think if anything is wrong, and there is a possibility if you say a word incorrectly or if your accent is different. So you can change the wording over here. And also you can click on styles, and you can change the color of this as well. So what I like to do is I simply click on the eyedropper over here and copy the color of the canvas to get this gray color. I guess I'd written thing wrong. Let me go back over here again. So yeah, you don't have to change the color of the subtitle. This is actually the color of the text, change the color of the background. So I'm going to change the color of the background. And usually I decrease the opacity like this. And now you can put your subtitles over here. How cool is this? And you can also decrease the size as well, so you can make it like 36. And now, when you will play the video, you will see the subtitles at the bottom. So yeah, this is pretty much it. This is an amazing tool. After when you are done, you will click on Export and you click on Export Video. Bert, if you are not on the paid version, I have a paid version. I have a subscription with weed. And if you don't have a subscription, it will still lead to export the video, but they will be a watermark at the right top over here, like over here, maybe, I guess at the right top or left or right top. So you can export the video and your video will be exported with the the subtitles. And basically your audience will be able to read what you are saying. So yeah, this is pretty much it on how to add subtitles to your videos. This is pretty much it for the whole course. In the outro video, I'm going to give you some tips and tricks and where else can do use these videos as well. And yeah, this is pretty much it. So I hope you guys really like the course. I hope you guys really like the video. So yeah, see you guys in the outro video. Bye-bye. 7. Project: Hey guys, I hope you are doing great. So yeah, this is the end of the whole course. I hope that you really enjoyed it, really loved it. And now we are going to do a project. So usually my courses have multiple projects in them. But since this was a really small course, just a couple of videos, we are going to do just one project. So while we are over here, let me tell you, how can you submit your project and also what is your project? So we have already learned how to create portrait educational Porter would use for Instagram. And this is your project. You have to simply create a video like this one. You can make it for Photoshop, Illustrator on any other tool, whatever you want to teach on Instagram. And what you have to do is after creating the video, you have to share it with me as a project. And let me tell you how you can share your videos with me. Let me come down over here. If you click on Create, Project over here on Skillshare. If you click on this, you can add a title. So add a title of your video and then upload your video to Skillshare. The video should be no longer than just one winner because I don't want you guys to get too worried on how to create a long-form content, just one-minute video would do. And afterwards, after you are done, simply click on Publish. And I would love to see your projects and love to give feedback on her project. And it would really make me happy if I see one of you guys making amazing content on your staggered arm. So if you start an Instagram account, do send me a message on Instagram, and I would love to give you a shout out if you start making content like this. So yeah, this was an eternal class, a little video on how to create a project and also on what your project for this course is. So I hope that you guys really enjoyed the course. See you guys in the outro video. 8. What's Next: Hello everyone. Congratulations on completing this mini course. I hope you had a really nice time watching it. I know this was not a really big course, but if you use the material in it properly, it will really help you grow on any platform. Okay, so verts next, basically there are two things you need to learn to grow on any platform. Number one is content creation, and number two is content distribution. You have already learned the first one in this course on how to create content basically. But the next thing which I would recommend you to learn as content distribution, because it doesn't matter if you are making the best content in the world, if no one is watching it, basically if it is not being distributed properly. So if you want to learn how to grow on Instagram as a creator, I have a complete course on it in which I teach you everything on how to grow your account and create an online presence. Apart from this, I'm also creating a course on Pinterest growth as a creator obviously. And whenever I'm done with dad course, I'm going to update this video as well. Anyhow, I hope you really enjoyed the course and if you did kindly leave a review on the course as well, I would really appreciate it.
