Hello, I'm Adam Chraibi professional graphic designer and video editor based in Casablanca, Morocco with more than 5 years experience in freelance work.

I went to art school when I was a 15 years old where I studied the basics of drawing, shadows and light (Mangas style) and after that I went to law school where I got my bachelors degree in private Law.

But my love and passion for art and animation was bigger than the love for law, I wasn't feeling conformable studying it but it was too late I couldn't just drop off I told myself at least get the degree and then do something else.

So I switched my career into doing what I love and passionate about which is all the digital art stuff. That when I worked 2 years as social media manager and designer for an airline compan... See full profile

1. Course Introduction: Hello everyone. My name is Adam on the professional graphic designer, an animator from because I'm blocked on record. In this course, you will learn how to make beautiful 3D shapes and inside Photoshop. So we're not going to be using any 3D software. We're not going to be using 3D workspace in Photoshop. It just going to be shapes and the pencil. So for this closer, you're going to need Photoshop. Of course, any Creative Cloud version of Photoshop is fine. If you're never touched Photoshop before, this course may be a bit challenging for you. So by the end of this course, you should be able to make these beautiful 3D abstract shapes inside Photoshop. Who get to make the sphere and the cube and the pyramid. And using the techniques that you will learn in this class, you should be able to make any 3D shape that you like. So if you're looking to get creative and Flakes, does Photoshop muscles, see you inside the course? 2. Download project files : Before you start the class, you want to come over here to projects and resources and then click on Download exercise files here. Lawsuit click, you're gonna be prompted to this window. Double-click on this file, and then download right here or I hear, okay? If you have any questions, you can come over here to discussions and then start a conversation or ask me a question. Okay? Once you finish your projects, you can share projects over here. 3. Creating the isometric cube in Photoshop: Once you open Photoshop, you wanna go ahead and click on Create New. And a universal size of a poster as A3. Okay? And the equivalence in us as a tabloid. So you can choose either a3 or a tabloid. It's the same thing. If I change inches to millimeters, you can see the numbers. They're quite similar. Okay, so I'm gonna click on tabloid. Continue. Now, this is my odds boat, and let's start by creating our cube. Selects your rectangle tool by clicking New on a keyboard. Or just come over here, click and hold. And then you can choose the Rectangle tool. Click once on a canvas and enter the same value as I will write here. It's very important for the width. It began to be 100 thousand edit to. For the height's going to be 10000476. Click okay. And here we have our rectangle. Go to View and make sure you have the same settings here. So go to show, and you can see that I have smart guides checked. You can also check pixel grid. I have snapped checked as well. And if you go to snap to I have grids, layers, documents, bounds, okay, very important. Also, if your workspace doesn't look like mine, you can come over here to window workspace and you can see that I'm working with graphic and web loss. We finished with those on a click if seven to open my layers panel. Select the rectangle. And then what I'm gonna do is go to edit, transform perspective. Okay? Then hold this angle of the rectangle and then just bring it down 30 degrees. Okay? It's very important that you bring it down 30 degrees if you want to give it that's isometric. Look and feeling a 30 points one, that's fine as well. Like Okay. Now hold olds or option on your keyboard and then just duplicates this shape. Okay. What did duplicated shape cell selected? You go to edit transform again and this time flip horizontal is like that. And you can see that the Already snap into each other. So I'm going to select the right shape or the rise rectangle. And then just give it a darker value so we can see the difference between the two. Make sure before we continue to click on Control Command S to save your documents and just give it a name box to yeah, you can see that I was working with the box before. Now. Just training for the course. Now select the rectangle one and then just give it a name so you can recognize it after. So this is going to be rectangle rights. And this one is going to be rectangle. Left's. Okay, just like that. Now, what you wanna do is hold, again optional olds grabbed rectangle writes and then just bring it down here until it snaps. When the left rectangle. And you zoom in to see what's going on. And yeah, you can see that it's snapping perfectly. Now I'm gonna do the same for this one. Hold alt option and drag the rectangle lifts and make sure it's snapping here you can see it's snapping because of these smart guides. And now release and you can see we have a beautiful cube. Now what you wanna do is give a name to the bottom rectangles. So this one is the left one. Rectangle lifts copy. I'm just gonna remove call P inputs here bottom. And then I'm going to bring it all the way down like this. Whereas you gotta want it here. So I want to bring it down here too and change the name to bottom it. Okay. If I zoom out so you can see our beautiful cube right here. Now it does look like it not snap in 100%. So I can just select this and this whole shift and select both. And then just with my right arrow on the keyboard, click once. And here we have it. Okay guys, now I'm going to select Rectangle lifts, bottom, rectangle rights, bottom, right-click, and then converts smart objects. You're going to see why in a moment, okay. 4. Liquefy Image: Okay guys, so now what I'm gonna do is go to file, open on my computer and go to the exercise files that I told you to download earlier and click on this image right here. That's a download it from on Splash.com. Okay, double-click. And here we have its. Okay, so you can use pretty much any colorful image. The next thing I wanna do is duplicates 2D image because I like to work non-destructively in Photoshop. I'm gonna hide the background for now. And then just key did duplicated image. And we're going to do two things. Maybe we got to liquefy this. Are we going to apply the oil paints filter. Okay, so gotta filter liquefy. Okay, this is the shortcuts. If you want to use the shortcuts. And then make sure you have the warp tool selected and then just star warping the image like this. Okay? And I want you to go in the same direction, okay? Don't go all over the image. Just go from left to right like this. You can make the brush even smaller. Once you're happy, you can go ahead and click OK. Alright, so I'm gonna go ahead to filter again, stylize oil paints. And here are the values I'm using. Okay? Now it's applied. And you can see this already or right-click and then convert it to a smaller objects. Okay, so the reason why I am converting into smarts object goes a, because we are going to be killing it's up and down and distorting the image. So by converting the image to smart objects, you make sure that you preserve the same pixelation of the image. Okay, we're not going to lose any details or we're not going to lose any pixels from the image. Selected. Right-click here. And then Duplicate Layer and selects which documents. So I'm gonna duplicate it and the box space to documents. Now I'm just going to scale this down to make it the same size as the box. Click on the Background copy and then control command J. So duplicated three times, then among others. And then just keep this one. No need to give it a name this time for the colorful background. So I'm gonna clip it to direct tangle left first. And then again, I'm gonna go to edit, transform perspective. And this time bring the angle of the picture up by 30 degree. Like this. Okay, I'm interested, just It looks perfect. Maybe. Resize picture bits. Ok, I'm happy with this. Select the second one and bring it down, down here on the top of the rectangle rights. And this time what I'm gonna do with this picture is go to idiots transform and then just rotated 90 degrees clockwise. Now hold olds or option, okay, and then just hover between the background and the rectangle. And then you're going to have like this sort of white square with the down arrow and click and it's gonna clip, it's OK. Maybe keep this thing like this. Now for the final one, grabbed the last copy and put it on top of rectangle rights. Bottom. Rotated. 90 degrees, hold Shift wild, rotate him. Okay. Again, hold alt option and then just click and it will clip it to the bottom rectangle. Okay? Now for the bottom pots, because this is a 3D box, I wanna make it darker hair. So what the background copy selected? I'm gonna go ahead to the Adjustment Layer exposure. Make sure you have clip here. Okay, so we're just gonna affects this picture inside this layer. And then click on Presets and minus2. Slack that if seven for the Layers panel again. Okay guys, and here we have our beautiful colorful abstract 3D cube. I'm going to select everything. Right-click again and again. Guess watts converts us most objects, yes. Just like this. Now I can move as freely. You're not having to worry about anything. Now let me go back to this picture. High dispersion, break my original one back, hold it and then just drag a drug, a drug it here. And the release it's here. I'll now go full screen again. So if you wanna go full screen on your Photoshop, just press or click F on your keyboard. And I get down here. Then just adjusted to the spot. Okay. Now I'm gonna go through the adjustment layers, go to vibrance, clip it to my cube, and then just add some Vibrance and Saturation so I can separate the background from the foreground. Okay? Okay, the next thing I'm gonna do is add a layer beneath the cube, selects my brush. You can see that I'm using a normal brush, okay? As selfish rounded brush, opacity 50 percents. And if you look here, you can see that the brush size is almost the same as the cube size. Okay, so just click once. You're going to have this sort of white circle behind its filter, blur, motion blur. I'm just adding two whiteness behind its soils can contrast a bit with the background. And again, once you're happy with, maybe just increase the opacity of bits here. 96, maybe just decrease its 50%. So it's going to look, now that looks fine. Now selects the three of them. And again, guess watts Yes, converts a Smart Object. So I can now duplicate this one, make it smaller bits spit here. And then again duplicated down here and make it even smaller like this. Okay? And now it looks like we have three giants boxes. Move in in the space. We don't know who's come in. Okay, so that was it for this lecture and see you on the next one. 5. Make a Neon rope and add text: Okay guys, so for this lecture, watts we gotta do is apply our neon rope and our texts. So first thing first, what I'm gonna do is just add a new layer. Then click pizza, grabbed my pants or we'll make sure you have path here, okay? No shape. Then what I'm gonna do is click here and here, and curve. Then here, curve. Okay? So I'm doing two ropes, okay, 12 for each box. Same thing here, like this. Oops. Show again. Like I'm curve and curve and curve here. And then click here and occur. Okay, just like this. Now after you finish three senior path, like before the brush tool come over here and I select the brush. Change the brush to hard, rounded size to 40. Okay? Opacity to 100%, you can leave flow and smoothing the same doesn't matter, and make sure you have color wives. Ok. After you do this, when I go back to the pencil, right-click on this path and then stroke path, selects a brush. You can see that you can say like lot of things, but selects brush. Okay? And you can see that we have our probe here. Once you have the rope like this, right-click on its again belief path. Okay? And then you're just left with the rope. Now with delay or a selected the one with the rope, double-click and go to Outer Glow, selects the color, whites, leave any color bots I think quite is, makes more sense. So blamed mode, make sure it's set to screen. Opacity. I'm gonna increase it to 100%. Noise, 0%, that's fine. Size Let me try 2040. Range. Maybe 60. Jitter are going to leave it's 50. Once you're finished, click OK. Now, the next thing to do is to grab the Lasso Tool and you can click L for the Lasso Tool. So we want to make it look like this rope is wrapping around these boxes. And the way to do it, as I'm just going to select parts of this rope and delete them. For example, it starts here and it goes like this. So I'm going to delete this parts right here using the lasso tool. Gauges like this. And then you can press backspace on your keyboard. Once you finish Control Command D to Deselect. Same thing here, that's going boom, boom, then Room. And then here. I'm gonna cuts again. And then boom. Here. Monocots again. That's why I told you that at least you should have two ropes for one box so you can keep one and delete the utter. Okay, now I'm gonna go back to the brush tool. Like B increases a bit like this, give it a nice, a nice size. And then just click here 123, like this. And same thing here, 1234. Okay, so you can already see that it looks, it looks very good, man, it looks okay. Once we finish at time to add the text. Now you can see that these 3D boxes look like they come in, out of space. Okay, so I want to use a text that's gonna convey the same feeling, the same fonts that they use in Star Trek is going to be like a diametrical space looking fonts. So what the text selected right here, you can click T on your keyboard or just selected from the tool panel. Change the color to whites. I'm gonna give it a number here. 007. Go to properties. Or you can go to Window and find properties. And Tunisia there two orbits. A try orbits, bolt. It's black. Medium. Medium looks okay. So I have the number here, 007047. And then I could just again do the same. Click t for the time, and then just type whatever I want here. For example, space, space. Lynn, box. Select the whole thing like this. Come down here and then just left, align the text. I'm gonna go back here and then just adjust the leading bits. And you see, it looks good. Space traveling box. The next thing you can do if you want to just double-click on the text layer. And then you can try and add the Outer Glow as well. And then just see how it looks. To me like this. If I increase the opacity bit looks good. Click OK to see. Looking good. Looking good man. So once we finish, I'm going to select everything but the text and the background, group them in a folder, then just bring them down a bit like this. So we have some symmetry and a poster. And he, you have its menu goods ago. Alright, so that's it for this lecture. On the next lecture, I'm going to show you how you can create other shapes. Ok, we gotta do a pyramid, and then we're gonna do is fear. 6. Making the dark pyramid : In this lecture, we will make our pyramid or 3D triangle. So making through the triangles and Photoshop is a bit tricky guy. So you may want to pay attention to this. And if you don't sound the sound that anything, you can just leave me a question and I will reply right away. So come over here to your transform tool and make sure to select the polygon. Then come over here to the canvas and click once. I'm just going to enter some values here for the width. Heights, same values. Numbers of sides, three. Make sure you have start shift. No need to check smooth corners and smooth indents. Okay? Now that we have our y triangle, I'm just gonna come over here and change the color to a darker value. So let's my move tool and then just move it a bit here, rotated 90 degree hold shifts one or tasting guys. Then just make a bigger bits like this. Okay? The next thing I'm gonna do is add a couple more layers. So no need to name these layers because I don't think you're going to get lost. And I also don't want to waste time just naming these layers. The next thing you need is rulers. And you can see here that's I already have my rulers on. The way you put your rulers on is by clicking on Command or Control R. So if I click command, control are gone and now they BEC. So bring this one here and put it down here. Also on jaggedy out alone from the side here. And put it to rights in the middle. And it's going to snap automatically. If it doesn't snap automatically to the triangle, you probably want to come over here to view and make sure you have Snapchat, okay, SNP2 and here are the settings. I think I'm going to bring described a little bit more down like this. And now it looks good. So selectively in number one, select the lasso tool. You can click on your keyboard or just come over here. Now, I want to select the edge of this corner and this point right here. And then here, and here. And even if you go out of the triangle is not a problem. I'm going here. Now. I'm gonna go to Window. Selects my swatches, selects a darker value, then the triangle. Click gif will depend Bucket tool. And make sure you have opacity 100s percents. Okay guys, very important. Click once and he habits. Ok, Control Command D to unselect and do the same thing for the outside. Now click Ole number two, click alpha, the lasso tool, and then do the same thing. Like here. Here, here. And here you have its gif will depend. Bucket tool selects a darker color and then just bent here, Control Command D to undo and off of the last one. Here. And here, and here, and here. You have it. Now for the last part, I'm going to keep the same color as I have already on my triangle. So I'm just gonna click I for the eyedropper tool, select it, click G, And then just fill it in with the same color, Control Command D. Now, what you can do is gets rid of the rulers. So control command to delete them from the workspace and then come over here to view. Then clear Canvas guides. And the next thing I'm gonna do is go back to the image I want to use as a background and clip to the triangle. So I'm Susan, this image right here, because of the overall feeling I wanted to convey from the post server. I want to have it, I wanted to have that dark sends writes into Sahara thing, you know, and dangerous a triangle moving in the Sahara. Very nice imagination I have going on here anyway. So click here, converts a smart objects. Then grab the image, put it here. Click f of the full screen. Then I'm just gonna duplicates control command J three times the image. Hide the last two. Didn't brag Background copy all the way on top to lay number one belongs, kind of resize it like this. Old some are optional, new keyboard and clip it. Can just grab it and then adjust it as you wish. I'm going to go to it, its transform perspective. And again, just spring this thing up a little bit like this. And we go through the same thing with background copy number two here, but this time I want to rotate it like this, minus 90 degrees. Okay? Clip, it's just resize, it's little bits. And finally, the same thing for layer number three. But this time I'm just going to rotate it like this. Just on the right. Looks good. Now, I want to darken some faces of this triangle to give it's more than 3D look. So again, select the background copy one, and I'm going to add a layer on top of its clip. It's now hold Command Control and click on the thumbnail of lay number one. Just like this. And we're gonna paint this thin black on this empty layer that we just added. So open swatches, panel B for the brush tool. I'm gonna make it big and then just select this value right here and the other side, I'm going to make it even darker using this buck color. So just click once, don't release the keyboard and then just veins over this. And then go to blend in mode and then change it to probably overlay or soft lights. Think soft light is better. Shell command D. And I'm gonna do the same thing for Background. Copy number two. The sign black, like this. Soft lights. Okay, guys. I think now we have it. I'm just going to bring the background now. Right-click. Duplicate Layer. Untitled. Ok. That is all the way down here. Full-screen mode. Now, the first polygon I can just hide its, I don't need it anymore. And here you have it, guys. Okay. Hey, you have it's it can adjust things now with the exposure, the levels, just as we did in the first poster. And then you can add your texts, two ropes. And maybe try a different color for the neon a rope. And you can still adjust D background and the pyramid using the exposure all levels. Okay, I'm not gonna do it. It's here because we did it's in the first, both Sarah and I just want to keep this lecture shorts, right? See you in the next one. 7. Making the Candy Glass Ball: Okay guys, now I want you to open your exercise files that you download it. Go to this can the image, right-click. And then open with Photoshop. First thing I'm gonna do is duplicate the background, hide this one. Now here's the thing. In this lecture, we're going to make a sphere. And you can either use a normal circle to make a sphere. Just like this. Then you can bring the Background copy on top of the circle and then just clip it. Then add the shadows and highlights and make it look like a sphere. Because if you've been to art school or if you took any drawing class, you know what as a sphere is just a circle with the right shadows and highlights applied. Okay? But what I found is when I, when I use the sphere rise effects in Photoshop, I have this more surrealistic effects and look to the poster. So I'm just going to undo everything and deletes the ellipse. The ellipse, sorry, the leads. And I can go to filter the salts and then apply this fear arise effects. Okay? And right away you will notice that we get a beautiful result. But this has an X shape and we need the perfect circle. Now if you're looking for a x shape, if you want to have an X-shaped like this, you can rotate it and everything. And that's fine. You can use a landscape or rectangular image. But if you want to have a perfect circle, you need to crop the image to be in a perfect square size. So undo again and what the background copies still selected. I'm going ahead the crop tool over here. And make sure up here you have square, okay? And check deletes, cooperate pixels. Click okay, and here you have a perfect square image. Now if we apply the sphere rise effects again, whereas this sorts for ego. You can see that we will get a beautiful sphere. And now you can hit Control Command Plus alt option F If you want to reapply the sphere. But for me, I can leave it like this. It looks fine. Now we need the altitude to isolate the sphere from the background. Click on the ellipsis marquee tool, and then come over here to the corner of the canvas, hold shifts, drag all the way to this corner. And you can see automatically we have the sphere selects it. Now click here on a mask. And said exposed converts a smart objects. Okay? Now I can duplicate this then again. Whereas duplicate layers here we go and selects the on-site sold documents. Go back to it. And then just adjusted here, make it smaller lipids. And here we have it's okay guys. Now I can go to File Place Embedded, select the image. But here as a background. Here we go. Okay? So right away, I can notice that we have some problems. So this fear does not contrast enough with the background. Easy, I can just select the background. Come over here to the adjustment layers, open hue saturation, clip it to the background, and then just decrease the saturation of the background little bits. And now we're starting to see some contrast. Okay guys, think like this is fine. But it is not clipped or it's clipped. Now what I wanna do is just add more shadows and highlights with a sphere so we give it, or I should say, so we reinforced that 3D look to it. So I'm going to add a new layer. We put here, hold control command, and click on the thumbnail of the sphere. Bring the brush. Make sure you have black here. I need a black color 00 and a hex code. And then I'm just going to click once here, are going boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. Like this. Here. Okay, now, please click here. Blending mode, soft lights. Okay. So flooded scripts. All right. Now you can see that we have a pretty good thing going on here, guys. Okay. It looks good. 8. Mock-up poster: And this movie we're going to apply the mockup. So I want you guys to open the folder and open posts there, that's p is going to come here to our first image. And then just explored this image. So file exports, exports as so Formats PNG, transparency checked and everything else here should be the same as on your screen. Click exports, and then save. Now let's go back to our poster. I'm going full screen again. Seven for the Layers panel. So you can see here that we have different folders. We have filters, light set up, poster texture. We're going to leave those here for the moments. And the thing you're looking for is edit this OK. You want to double-click on this icon right here where it says smarts objects. This icon that looks like a folder or a piece of paper, just double-click. And you window is going to open on Photoshop. Make sure your hide this poster, we don't need it. And then go to File, Place Embedded, find the image that you exported. And right here guys, we can see right away that we have some problems. So we have these edges then we need to cover. Okay? I know some people will just go ahead and resize. The image source can fit the canvas, but this is very bad because we lose in details. Okay, or some other guys, we'll go ahead and look for another poster with the same dimension. But this can be fixed, guys. Okay, I'm going to show you how now. So click here on the Move tool, click and hold and selects houseboat. Now I'm gonna zoom out. And the way I zoom out as That's I press OLS or option and the middle button on my mouse, I'll just bring it's backward. Now click here on the corner of the image and then just drag, drag, drag, drag, drag until here. You can see that I did a good selection because of the guides deformed the cross and release. And here you have it, guys. Okay. Here you have it. Now, when I go back to my move tool and if I click Control Command S for safe, it's gonna save it. Now if I go back to my poster. Okay, you can see that it is fitting the post-survey. We have to fix those things right here, the shadows and the texture. So I'm analog filters and light setup. An open poster texture. It's okay and we want to just to reflection the shadows. And the BGN floors are not BG stands for. Anyway, if I hold this and drag, you can see that it's going to affect all the poster, everything in, everything under it is going to be affected. So Control Command Z to undo. And why you think this happens? Because look here on these layers, you can see these icons, ok, that's means these icons that look like some sort of chain. Chain. So not just chains, normal changed. That means that these are linked to this layer, which is the poster. So we need to select everything. I'm going to click poster shadows or poster shadow. Hold shifts and select all of them. Right-click and then unlinked layers. Now it can do the same hold control command and select all of these. And then hold shifts, and then just drag these. So it's configured to poster. You drag from the side just like this and just make sure you hold shifts. Okay. Once you finish, you can go ahead and unlock the filters and light setup and then just try different stuff. You can play with these filters. Here. You can also play with the lights set up. And finally down here you can change the background color. Okay, I'm just gonna make it a bit darker, maybe like this. And click OK. And he had his guys here. You have, it's once you finish file exports, same thing as we did earlier. Exports as and you're good to go.
