Is there anything else you can do to enhance those photos in anyway? Oh, I'm glad you asked why. Yes, there is. And in this section, I'll show you some tricks to make your photos even better. I'll show you how to use software programs like Photoshopped Elements and gimp to manipulate your photos, make them poppin, come alive. Now this is easier than you might think. We'll go over how to do color and level correction as well as cropping and re sizing, too. Now, although this section is optional and not absolutely necessary, your photos will definitely benefit from these enhancements, and it will give you an advantage when posting your ads. I'll also mention that making software adjustments to your photos can be addicting, and you can spend a lot of time tweaking and making things perfect. But at this point, it's best to stick to the basics, so I'll cover just the essentials to make these quick adjustments so that you can move on. After all, you want to get your products up in selling, right? Of course you do 2. Software: in this lecture will go over two of the software options that will be using to make photo modifications and adjustments. Now, before we get into the details, you'll need to install one of these popular photo editing software packages. Please refer to the manufacturers installation instructions for details. If you happen to have another software program that you'd rather use, all that's fine, too. See, many of these features are generic across multiple programs. The 1st 1 is Photoshopped Elements that this is really a fantastic software packages made by Adobe with tons of features. Not to worry, though, we'll only need to use a few of these. The list price on this is roughly $75 here's the URL and the other software program is Gimp . Now this is an open source program with Justus. Many features is Photoshopped elements, but the best thing is it's free. And here's the link 3. Color & Level Correcting: So what do you do if your product photos look kind of plain and drab or colorless? Is there any way to fix these problems in this lecture, I'll show you how to use color and level correction to breathe new life into your lifeless photos. Now, despite all of your best efforts to get enough light on your product and make white balance adjustments, there are times when the color and brightness and contrast of your photos just don't look quite right. Now, in these cases, you can make adjustments using software level and color correction options. No, I will say that brightness, level and color correction is really an art unto itself and could really justify an entire course. But for the sake of our lesson, we're only interested in the basic settings now. There should be more than adequate for our work on Craigslist. Luckily, both software programs offer really fast and easy automatic adjustments. I'll walk you through how to do this with our example product, using both photo shop and gimp with your photo open and Photoshopped do the following to make level corrections, select, enhance, and then on all levels with your photo open and Photoshopped Do the following to make color corrections. Select enhance in auto color correction With your photo open and gimp. Do the following to make level corrections. Select colors levels Auto button with your photo open and gimp do the following to make color corrections. Correct the white balance First, to help enhance the colors. Select colors Auto white balance now with more color is required. Select color, auto and color Enhance now, as you can see, the adjusted photos are more appealing and should help draw more attention to our product. 4. Cropping: Okay, So what do you do if your product photos contains some kind of a distracting element around the edges? Does this mean that you've got to start from scratch and take more photos? Definitely not on this lecture. I'll show you how to remove those distractions very easily by cropping. So cropping is basically the process of isolating your product within the photo in a way that removes distracting elements. And as with staging cropping, your product helps draw more attention to it in the photo. Chances are, if you stayed show product correctly with the proper background backdrop and framing, then you really won't have to bother cropping your photo. However, if your product is large and couldn't be staged correctly, well, you had trouble framing than this step may be necessary and definitely beneficial. I'll walk you through the cropping process with our example product, using both photo shop and gimp with your photo open and Photoshopped. Do the following to make cropping corrections, select image crop and then dragged the corners and edges to the right location and hit the check mark to confirm your changes with your photo open and gimp do the following to make cropping corrections, select crop tool and dragged the most across your image for the desired crop area. And you can make adjustments by dragging the corners and edges to the desired location and then hit the enter key. As you can see in the example, the cropped photo is more appealing and should help draw more attention to the product. 5. Resizing: you may have noticed after loading your product photo into your software application that they look huge. If so, that's most likely the result of your cameras resolution setting. Is there any way to make these photos smaller? In fact, there is. And in this lecture, I'll show you how to reduce your product photo file size. He also wanted to talk a little bit about photo resolution. You may be wondering if there's an ideal photo resolution to use and, as we mentioned earlier in the camera settings lecture, as long as your photos have a resolution of at least 640 by 4 80 that they should be fine for posting on Craigslist. What's really interesting is that Craigslist doesn't actually specify any dimensions for photo uploads and through some trial and error, I've actually found that when you upload a photo of any dimension larger than 300 pixels wide by 225 high, craigslist actually automatically re sizes and compresses it so that it's with this 300 or high. It is 2 25 whichever is greater, and it automatically keeps the proper aspect ratio to Crixus doesn't resize any photos smaller than 300 by 225 pixels. Although there's no really absolute need for re sizing, you may want to do so for a number of reasons. See, your software program will have much easier time dealing with smaller photos and uploading smaller photos to Craigslist will be much faster, too. Smaller photos also take up much less space on your hard drive and other storage media. I'll walk you through how to do this with our example product. Using both Photo Shop and Jim with your photo open and Photoshopped do the following to resize. Select image resize image size and make sure that the constrain proportions check boxes set . No. If the initial pixel dimension with is greater than the height, set it to 300. If the initial pixel height is greater than with, then set it to 2 25 and then select OK button with your photo open and gimp do the following to resize your photo. Select image scale image. They make sure the constrain proportions is set toe locked. No. If the initial image size width is greater than height, set it to 300. If the initial image size height is greater than with. Set it to 2 25 and select scale button. Now, as you can see, the new photo file size has been drastically reduced. 6. Save For Web: you may be wondering if there are any other tricks you can play to help get smaller photos . And of course, the answer is yes. In this lecture, I'll show you yet another option for photo file size reduction. The safe for Web option is a really good choice. This method allows your photos to maintain the same dimensions, but contrastingly reduced the amount of information it contains with no real loss in quality. As with re sizing, this option makes for faster loading, both in your application and on Craigslist. It also reduces storage space on your hard drive in other storage media, and we'll walk you through how to save for Web. For our example. Products using both photo shop and gimp with your photo open and Photoshopped do the following to say for Web, Select file safe a Web, select, preset and choose J pay high and then select the okay button. The safe Web option is not actually part of the GIPs Native program. In order to take advantage of this feature, you must first install a plug in as follows. You want to download and unzip this file here, and then you want a copy the Web export dot txt File to your personal plug ins folder and then restart gimp with your photo open and gimp do the following to say for Web, Select file Safe a Web and choose J pay and then select the okay button. Now, as you can see in this example, the safer Web option has drastically reduced the file size. 7. Take Action: Okay, Now it's your turn to play. If you haven't done so already, please do the following steps. Install whichever software you plan to use. If you don't already have your own program. Now, crack open your software and make any enhancement. You feel unnecessary. Now, I'd like you to take your enhanced product photo and posted in the discussion forum. This will be a final comparison to your original photo. After comparing the two photos side by side, I'm sure you're thinking Wow, what a difference. Look how much better it is now. Now, I'd like to congratulate you on a job well done. You're doing things that will set you fire apart from the average seller on Craigslist. No, I'm really looking forward to seeing your finished photo, so please share and post them in the discussion for him following along. In our course example, you can see quite a difference in the final enhanced shot compared to the photo when I first found the product, take a look at the supplemental material section under instructor example number six
