1. Introduction: Hi. Welcome to my scooter class about crafting your running process. This class, we're going to focus and cooler. I'll teach you the color theory basics before we jump into how to create a color palette. My name is Stavros Human, Vicky's and I am an identity designer based in longer UK. I am the owner of Sign on Branding Creative studio that focuses on designing visual identities for entrepreneurs, startups and small businesses. This class is aimed at students with basic interest raters. So if you're a designer, freelancer, side hustler or even a hope based and you're interested in cooler and how to make a color scheme than these classes for you, by the end of this class, you'll have a better knowledge on the importance of cooler color theory as well as how to create your own color palette. If that sounds fun, then follow alone 2. What is Colour: hi and thanks for taking this class. Now let's talk about color. Color plays a vitally important role in the world We live in Koehler constraint thinking, stains, accents and cause reactions. You can irritate or soothe your eyes, raise your blood pressure or surprise your appetite. Likewise, the colors used for a product, a website, business cards or a logo cause powerful reactions. People decide whether or not they like a product in 90 seconds or less. 90% of that decision is based solely on color, so a very important part of your branding must focus gets that right on color. In a physical sense, there is no such thing as color, just light waves of different wavelengths. The human eye can distinguish among these wave lands, so we see the world in color. Rays of light vibrate at different speeds. The sensation of color, which happens in our brains, is a result of our visions response to these different wavelengths. When taken together, the virus raised our eyes can distinguish are called the visible spectrum. These fairly narrow range of colors includes red Oren's yellow, green, blue, blue, violet and violence. Human eyes have three types of color receptor cells or cones read the green and the blue. All incoming light is reduced down to these three colors. All perceived colors are generated by a mixture of these three colors. People can distinguish approximately 10 million colors, which is the human color space. Not everyone's caller sensing cells respond alike, so identification off a specific color is highly subjective. There are two types of primary color. The additive and subtract are to be are the primary colors of pure light and are referred to as additive primary colors. This attractive primary colors, which are made from reflected light, fall into two types. The printers primaries with her CN magenta and yellow to form the C. M Y, and the artists primaries with her red, yellow and blue. They are wybie. Visible spectrum colors are pure and represent the greatest possible brightness or intensity. Designers working with rays of colored light as on computer screens use additive colors, or RGB. When these colors overlap. Other colors air produced all objects have physical properties that cause them to absorb some color waves and reflect others. Caller, when applied to a surface such as paper, has the same characteristics. The sensation of quarter is produced when the surface absorbs all the wavelengths except those the eyes proceed when color is experienced through reflected light, it is called so attractive. There two sets off so attractive primary colors. The artists primaries red, yellow and blue. As we said, the are white B and the printers primaries, which are seeing magenta and yellow. The CME way, coupled with black, known as K, we get the same way K or four color process. Eight Hours B is a subjective system that describes caller in terms of hue, saturation and brightness. Here is the common name of a color that indicates its position in the visible spectrum or on the color wheel. It is another word for color. Saturation refers to the intensity or a brightens of a color. A vivid color has high or full situation where that one is de saturated. Such reason is a measure off. The returns of the cold brightness for value is a relative degree off. Lightness or darkness off a color or it's reflective quality or brilliant color can be described this either light or that, for example, light blue or dark blue. The brightness of the color is changed by mixing it with white to form a tent or black to former state. This course I'm going to use the color will called the Subtracted Artist Primary Colors We airway be because picking the colors is the easiest with the set of primaries. A caller Will, which was originally developed by Sir Isaac Newton, can be constructed with the use of a few quarters or can be more complex if it includes many color variations. Perhaps the most useful version is the 12 step color will that contains 12 equal, distant, pure, huge, as shown below. It is constructed with the use of the primary colors, the secondary ones and the nurse. Everyone follow along. Since I'm going to show you later on in this class how to make your own 12 step color will in Adobe Illustrator 3. Colour Harmonies: in this section, we're going to talk about color harmony. What are color harmonies? To put it simply there. Successful color relationships you can give similar huge, which are usually shooting to the I or even contrasting ones that excite the I. The color choice can be subject to your personal preference and done to your gut feeling. However, the study of art and design has given us some specific color theories or guiding principles that help us make effective decisions about how to best use the colors in a composition. Color perceptions If dynamically. When combined with other colors, you can affect viewers impression by simply altering the color combinations. We're going to talk about six basic color relationship concerts that can be applied to an infinite number of color combinations. The complementary these air cooler pairs that are directly opposite it. Southern on the color With these produce the most contrasting relationships. The use off two complementary colors will cause a visual vibration and excite the I A split complimentary three color schemes, in which one color is accompanied by two others that are spaced equally from the first colors complement. The contrast is toned down, providing a more sophisticated relationship. The double complimentary. This is a combination of two pers of complementary colors. It's compliments increased the apparent intensity off each other. Be aware, but not on color. Sets will be pleasing. Avoid using equal volumes off the four colors to make this Kim place Dari the analogous these air combinations off two or more colors that are spaced equally from its other of the color wheel. These colors have similar light ray wave lands, so they're the easiest on the I the Triad IQ. These air combinations of any three colors that air space even in the color wheel. Triads with primaries Air Gary's. But secondary and tertiary triads provide softer contrast triads, in which two of the colors are a common primary. For example, Purple Endurance Sir Red may seem more pleasing and finally the monochromatic. These air color schemes made up off SAIDs and tens of a single color using hue and explore variety and saturation and lightness to Forman Allied combination off similar colors 4. Colour Meanings: hi. In this section, we're going to talk about color, meanings, the human eye n brain experienced color physically, mentally and emotionally. Hence the colors themselves of meanings. Color symbolism is open. A cultural agreement and opinions about the associations may differ. Let's have a look on what the primary and secondary colors are associated with. Red is associated with fire, blood and sex. It is positively associate it with partial love, blood, energy, excitement and hit, whereas it is negatively associate it with aggressive hunger, revolution and immorality. It is negatively associated with trendiness and loudness. In Northern Ireland, it is associated with the Protestant movement, whereas in the Netherlands it's a national color 5. Seeking Inspiration: Hi, and thanks again for taking this class in this section. I'm going to serve with you some tools that are used to create my own color palettes and also draw inspiration from the first is that I'm going to show you is called coolers. Let me show you how easy it is to use it. So by clicking the space bar, it will give you different color options. And let's say that I really like the one on the left. If you click this color, you'll notice that there is a lock icon, which is highlighted, which means that by pressing the space bar again, only the other four colors will change. Let's say that I also really like this one, So look it us well. And let's say that I like the 3rd 1 but I would like to use different states, so by clicking this icon, it gives you different state options. Let's go for a darker one or let's say let's pretend that were not yet satisfied with it, so unlock it and keep president the space birth till we find something that we want to work . Another pill option is that there's thes adjust bottom here where you can say the hue, saturation and brightness. The RGB values C M y que values and told So uh, peak a cooler from the spectrum here and told to have the names about different color books and different sets. Another thing that you can also do is by clicking the drug I can hear. You can always change the order of the colors. Let's say that we are happy with this and we want to keep exploring for the other two, not something so vibrant. And for time's sake, let's say that we really like this one, the gunmetal one, which is, by the way, really nice feature of coolers. So apart from the color hex coat and the color itself, it also gives you a really cool name that comes with it, which is always very important for us as designers, when we present cooler oceans, our clients so nothing. I have locked four colors. Let me find the final one the last one, and let's go take for thes this one here, and let's say that I want to export it. If you click experts, then you have different options will exported as an SBT And if I head back to my downloads , uh, click and drug to my illustrator documents, you see, this is an SPT You can cope with that and paste it to your document. Let me make thesis rectangles. So we have our first color palette there. Moving on to our next to that I'm going to show you is the one that is made from Adobe the adobe cooler, which is out there for a few years now, And the how it works is as follows. So you first have to choose one base colder. And let's a that my day schooler I want to work with Easy is green here. If you want to change another call and use that as a base, you just simply have to click this triangle there, and this will become your base cooler. And what's the importance of the base color? So let's pretend that this is the base color that we want to work with. Then, on the left, you have several options concerning the color harmony so you can have analogous options. Monochromatic options. Try and options complementary compound and say another thing that you can do is completely customize your product, which I wouldn't recommend for. People that begin that are beginners, and they don't have vast experience in working with color. So this is not the safe option to you for them. But with this one, you can literally combine any cooler, Um, like likewise here. Another cool thing. Let's go back to our analogous harmony is that you can know. Receive these and let's say that I won't save Jesus Killed, sir the to, and it will save it to the color libraries. Which means that if I go back to my document, you have these color skin here, and you can use it throughout the Adobe street in Photo Shop on Illustrator October 60 wherever you name it. Another cool thing about this website is that it has three different sections, so it has the explore section where let's say that you're seeking for something for a vibrant color palette. So if you click vibrant, then it will give you results off vibrant color combinations from different users that they have attacked their color scheme as vibrant. This doesn't seem to work. Um, let's I want to serve with the Trans is well, so this is really cool because gives you the trending colors in different industries. So in the fashion industry. Graphic design industry illustration. So let's say that you're working for a logo. It's always nice to have, you know, to get some inspiration, other what other designers use. Or, if you're waking, for example, in fashion or ah, editorial. It's always nice to, you know, to draw inspiration from other designers that are waking in the same, uh, short of industry. Then there's the my theme section, where you have all the themes that you have saved and let me try once again the explore attack. So let's go with yellow. So if you click your low yeah, um, it will give you different color options based on yellow. Or if you go to a Mexican, for example, it will give you different corruption, different color schemes that were attacked as Mexican, which is really cool to have. So almost exactly the same to uh, there is in within the Adobe Illustrator software, and how you can find didn't work with it is by clicking window and then color themes, and it works exactly the same way. So this where you see the triangle here is the base color. Let's pick that for times like this green. Um, you can change the color harmony rules from here. So if you want monochromatic options or let's say complimentary, these are the options that you can have. Um, and it works exactly the same way. You can always explore as you did on the website, and they also have a look on your themes, but you have saved through time so that this works exactly the same way. And another, um, fairly simple to. But I used to use in the past. It was gold color supplied coal, and this is more straightforward and more simplistic, I would say so. There are different color harmony rules. Let's let go for analogous for this time. And then you can drug and position the corner that you on the color competence that you want on the color with and by clicking that down, up and down arrows on your keyboard. U um, navigate through these cooler options here and also the you know the Aikens below the graphics below will change the color according to these options, so that you have a better understanding of how these corals work together. Another one fairly simple. If you are in the need off, choosing one color is the color picker. You can simply type that on Google, and then you'll end up with these two where you can, you know, find one cooler, and it gives hex code there to be the values that seem like a values eighties Viant. Eight or so and last, but not least also something that I always do. Huge splash, which, uh, is the website that has amazing stock free images. And let's say that I'm working on a Mexican, uh, project. So for foods, let's say for food, Um, that has, like, Mexican roots, and I want to use to get inspiration from Mexican from the Mexican culture so you can type Mexican get the seam. It's many, many callers. If you cope it and go back to your illustrator file and make that smaller, Um, yeah, so you can simply pace that to your document and then let's say, create some circles here and get quarter combinations. By the way, what I'm doing now is I'm using the eyedropper to which you can find on the left here, or by simply clicking I. You see that this icon hopes up and you're gone. Get your creator palette. Like what? Go for these yellow Oren's green one, This one well, and let's say this one off course. There are also other tools that I used to draw inspiration from and these air. Like Pinterest. I use a lot, especially for mood boards. There's ba hands tremble. There's design inspiration, but more or less the logic is the same. You get your inspiration, get some images you create your mood board, you paste aim. It is to your illustrator file and then, by using the eyedropper to you, can always, you know, create the base or the basic color palette. And then you can explored by tweaking the coolers. But you have, and that's it. I'll see you in the next section. 6. Creating a Colour Palette: Hi and welcome back to my class in this section. I'm gonna show you several ways and how to create a color scheme in Adobe Illustrator. What I've done already have pasted three different images as I showed you in the previous section. And I'm gonna show you once again how to create your own color palette by picking collars from these images. So what I'm gonna do now is create five different circles. Let me resize them so that they have the same length as a Nimitz, and I will start picking colors from the same. It's so let's click on the first circle that I have created Click I for the eyedropper tool that you can also find here on the left and start clicking and picking colors on the emits . So I have let me pick dark hair blue I have the blue have the pink Let's have the still one or the took was one the yellow and the more vibrant yellow Perfect. Now let's create five different squares and let me duplicate them By the way, I click saved and option and drug please. So let me show you again Click safety and option and drug to the right and then command d to duplicate these order his command and I will use again the eyedropper tool to get colors . The colors that I like from the aim it zoom in a bit. I would like this one. I will that this one and I will add as well I again this one here and once again on, by the way, you can use any kind of safe. This doesn't really, Mother. It's a vector shape anyway, um, to create your own color palettes. This this depends on the branding depends on the scope of the project. But you will be able to find what's, you know, more relevant to your needs. Okay, I have the five stapes. So it starts getting some callers from the emits. Maybe a lighter green making these don't here and once more. Maybe these gray over here, another went to get inspiration and create your own politics by picking colors from a mood board that you have curated. Andi, I'm not going to show you how to do it because it works exactly the same way as I've showed you with these images. So you choose your states, you click the Eyedropper tool and then you grab the course from the move board. What I'm gonna do, though, is let's pretend that we really like this color palettes. So I'm gonna drug these there and make them larger so that you'll be able to see. And we want to further explore these before doing that. Um, a trick that I always do especially for seem like a values. If I have to print something, I always try to run up the numbers, the same white K values. So instead of 46% off magenta, I will decrease that down to 45 than 18. I'll do the same for the other colors as well. 30 20 75 25 20 50. And from the yellow, I will do five, then 100 we're ready to go. So another thing that I do, um, is if I want to further explore the some colors and corruptions. Um, let me drug these Exactly the same spot on the new Alberto will coffee these, and by clicking the Newark airport and pressing command, see if the it will pace them exactly in the same area on the new artwork So let's say that I want to further explore these color ways, so I'm going to choose the 1st 2 drug them down position, please, as the last one. And then I'm gonna use the lento, which you can find here or by simply clicking w If you double click that, you will first come up with a smooth, colder option. But for this instance, we're gonna use the specified steps. And since I want three colors in between these two, I'm gonna choose three. So, having these clicked, then you click Once, click twice and the magic happens. You have three colors. You can see the transition from this color to this color by generating three brand new colors. What you have to do next is expand and then on group by clicking command C G and you're ready to go. Now let's let's do that quickly. Let's choose the first and the 3rd 1 and drug the 3rd 1 on the on the right, and then w one to and that's it. Expand. And then group I wanted to for the other two Kuncoro combinations. That's drug, Please. All right, w one to object. Respond. Let me breathe bring these a little bit higher. And the first in the last one w one to object. Expand. Okay, I'm group and we're ready to go. So you can see here that we have created 25 colors. We had initially five. So we created a new additional number of 20 different color options, which is always useful if you won't have, you know, a different a slightly different you different stayed. Or maybe, you know, a transitional transition presentational process off color. Um, So what's next? Since I have already rounded these numbers, I will show you how to add it. Colder to your short is in converter to a global color. So I will have this. And here. It gives you the option to run thes up then. But I have already done this. So we're set to go, I click. OK, and this is now added to my swatches. And by the way, if you cannot find your Schwarz's Bunnell than you, click Window Schwartzes and then this will show up. Okay. Another thing to do is choose your whole color palette. Click new color group here. Let's name that my excuse her class. Make sure to um, to click the convert process to global and hit. OK, so now you have these color look, there have already created twice, but that's fine. And what's what's really important about, um, let's say Global colors is that when I'll show you straight away? So when you, um, have, let's say and not work, um, that's, you know, you huge Thies this caller. In many different instances, it allows you to attain that color globally, and I will show you what I mean by that. So let me create another circle by hitting the scale button, Smaller one, and let me give these different color and again maybe a smaller one. Yeah, that's creating that and give it another corner And let's say so. We have these kind off teal color in two different instances. Um, and we're no longer satisfied with this color. What I can do is I just even click thes Schwartz here, double click it and let's say that I want to convert it to a purple fish corner. So if you do that, you can always hit preview, and it's saying this to all vain two instances that they use the same color so if you hit. Okay, Then it changes it to your swatches panel and told her to your color groups. Let me hit. Undo. And we still have the same word. Uhm, and another thing to explore. And another thing Why? Um, the global cars are really important is that you can create. Let me do that horizontally. Different states off the same different things of the same color. So when the color is global in Adobe Illustrator, then you have this t bar here when it says where it says 100%. So if you decrease this number 2 80 Ethan, uh, you actually decrease the K number. So you decrease the black that it has and it becomes a teen and let me do that 50 and do that 20. So now I I showed you how to create tents off one specific color. The same principle applies for the other colors as well. If you can experiment yourself and try things out, and that would be it for this kind off section in the next section, I'm gonna show you how to upload your colors to your libraries in order to use them throughout Theodore piece rate. Thank you. 7. Adding Colours to the Adobe Libraries: Hi and welcome back to my class in this section. I'm gonna show you how easy it is to out your color Schwarz's to your libraries so that you can use your colors throughout the adobe. Sweet. Remember, we have already added these colors to our Schwartzes, and what we have to do next is go to our libraries panel. If you can find that, then you have to pick window and then libraries. Then in the library, Sponder click. Create new library, give it a name, and then what you simply have to do is choose your Schwarz's and then click the cycle, which actually adds the Schwartzes to your current library. That's it were said to go. Now we can use these colors throughout the adobe Sweet in Adobe Photo Soap illustrator X'd and any other software for this project. I have added next day an empty XZ file where I can show you how to use thes library in this file as well. If you click commands. If l. Then your creative plot libraries will show up. And if you click my skills class, which is the latest library that we have created and for the time think. Let's create for rectangles. Five tangles. I'm sure that was And give them the colors that we have. Perfect. Just remember, if you're in adobe, easy to remove the border now by having these selected. If you click, add these ads the scorers to your document and you can use it throughout the document. Aziz. Well, um, that's it. I'll see you in the next flask. 8. CMYK to Pantone & RGB: Hi and welcome back to my class in this section. I'm gonna show you how to convert your colors to the relevant Pantone RGB and see him like a ones I have already coping. The previous colors came that were used in the previous section and let me duplicated based it three times Perfect. What I'm gonna do now if I want to convert these values to the these colors with irrelevancy and why cave I use? There are two ways to do that. Either click the global corner that have coping and click the cycle, which says, See him like a click to convert or excuse the corner that you want to convert and go to edit edit colors. Convert to see him White Gate. This gives exactly the same results. Now let's say that we want to convert our callers to the relevant Pantone ones what you have to do. It's click edit, edit colors, recorder at work, then two more steps to go his exact and then click this icon over there. She's color books and choose the relevant color book that you want to convert your callers to. I'm gonna choose Pantone solid, goaded and hit OK. Now you'll notice that five new colors were generating the Schwartzes panel, and you will also notice that they have a wide triangle on the edge and adult included in it, which means that they are Pantone colors, and indeed, you can double check that. If you click one of these colors, they there now having a Pantone reference, and you can double check with the other colors as well. Perfect. And now let's say that you want to convert your colors to the relevant RTP ones what you can do. First of all, since we are in the same y que color mold, you have to change your mode, so document color Mogo to file document color mold, choose RTB and then choose the scholars it edit, and it colors convert to our TV. And in fact, if you go to these colors and choose the RTB one, you'll notice that you'll have the RD values and the hex coat underneath. 9. Conclusion & Project Time: thanks so much for watching my class. The most important thing to remember is to keep it simple. Bear in mind that the more you practice with cooler that better you'll get in this class. We discussed about color and its properties, color harmonies and color meanings. I've been served with you how you can find inspiration to create your own color palette. Then we don't in Adobe Illustrator, where I showed you several ways to create your own color. Last but not least, I said with you how to convert your callers to the relevant Pantone in Rdp ones as well as how to have your colors, your libraries and used them throughout the adobe. Sweet. I hope you had fun and have a lot of new ways to create your own unique color palettes. Now don't know the file that you can find under the Project and Resources Section and create your amazing color palette. I'll be there fomenting and providing. I'm super excited to see what you guys have come up with. Thanks again for watching my
