Sourcing Your Spices: Sourcing your spices. Tips for sourcing safe spaces. When possible, by whole spices and ground them yourself from maximum freshness and shelf-life. Some ground spaces can contain other ingredients such as salt, rice, or flour. Since regulations do not require this to be listed on the package, buying whole spices can prevent spices from containing these hidden additives.
