About This Class

I am so happy to have you here, here’s what we are learning in this class :
In the first section of this class, we'll be learning about colors, starting from the basics we will understand about two different sets of primary colors (cool and warm) and then we will closely study how they mix to create all other secondary and tertiary colors.

We will be then comparing and contrasting the two color wheels to better understand what causes a dirty/brownish/dull looking colors and what constitutes a vibrant/clean looking color. It's important that you take advantage of the real-time class and complete all the exercises along for a more in-depth understanding.

We will then take this knowledge forward to create a split complementary color wheel that will have the cleanest hues.

Towards the second section of our class, we will be looking at neutrals and understanding how to mix our own earth shades with just using our primary colors. Once we have learned all this we will be moving towards mixing soft pastels and moody vintage/muted colors using three different methods for each.

We will be concluding our class by briefly touching upon color schemes and a handy color tool which helps in picking color palettes to ensure they are cohesive.
Now for the sake of simplicity I have limited the color palette to primaries however I encourage you to apply all these techniques that you’ve learned to each and every color in you paint box so that not only you will get to see the limitless possibilities of all the colors you can create but also you’ll become even more comfortable with colors.

This class is designed to be enjoyed by both beginner and intermediate artists and is in real-time so that we can join along in every step together and complete all the exercises. So what are you waiting for? Grab some watercolor and a beverage of your choice and let the color exploration party begin :)

Please note, If you have any questions at all, you can always leave a message for me here or on Instagram @thewhimsicalcreative and I’ll be happy to answer them.

I welcome your questions, comments and feedback.

I was always the kid who would be tucked away in a corner of their home with painting supplies and a huge creativity book, whereas that kid in me never really grew up my love for art just kept compounding over the years and even though as I was pulled towards the corporate world in lieu of adulting, the art crept in and continues to blossom every day.

I feel am a student of life, I love learning new things (have learned so much... See full profile

1. Introduction: I everyone this smaller street, the artist behind the physical creative and I'm back with my second thousands. Keisha. This time we will be exploring all things colors. Now color is such a huge and complex stopping that When I was starting out, I struggled a lot with it. I struggled with finding the right color, it says, and how to avoid those dirty looking money. Also, to create a cohesive color palettes for my compositions. Well, in this class, I'm going to attempt to simplify all that. I'm blown about colors into easy, actually steps that's gonna make you comfortable with things. This class is divided into two sections. The first section will be going back to the basics on. We would learn all about a crime. Are two different ships really warm and cool way identity? Acknowledge forward and create our own televisions in between two different kinds of colors . Between comparing, contrasting. You understand how certain Carlos give lobster remixes and then, on the other hand, and when you make certain other colors, you end up having wipe mixes. Once we had done deciphering factory on avoiding all sorts of money, donors way would then be created are split time they believe on. You would understand why this column is so unique. On important was the second section of this class we would be looking at how to create our own neutral colors. Just by using the primaries, we would be briefly touching upon of the new skill. I used vintage fellows in my work a lot on If you want to my profile after in second Creative on Instagram, you can see a lot of my florins are heavily influenced by these vintage stores, so we would also be learning how to make our colors 23 different methods, like So really, you're a huge fan off those soft, dreamy pastel colors. So we would be learning how to make our own pastors again music. Three different methods. And we would then be wrapping this class out, discussing different bonuses color schemes and how we can incorporate them in our composition to create more harmonious looking art class is suitable for all levels. Even if you're big enough, I'm sure you'll find this class extremely helpful on consumable. All that means that you'll be learning in this class can be applied across different mediums. We will be learning in this class, particularly with watercolors. But if you work with tomato medium, make sure to learn statements and applied to that chili work just fine. So I'm so excited to begin this color exploration with you. Join me, just gather your supplies and let's get started learning all in sculler. 2. Supplies: before we begin, let's have a quick look at the supplies that we will be requiring in after days. Class First thing is our watercolor people. So the people that I'm using today is our essentials. Watercolor people in 300 GSM 100. It's important you're more than welcome to use any people that you have. Just make sure that it's three energy s a manhunt for is important and it's gonna work out fine. Next up, let's discuss up pain. So for today is classy. Will be actually using two different portions of our primaries. One cool portion in one form ocean People be learning how to identify a cool version and a warm abortion in the next lesson. So don't worry about that. So we'll be using a cool version that is a cool blue. This is my fellow blue, which is why I sent earlier on. And this is my algebra deep again by Senate here. So my warm for our dreads will be using the cool shade a plant that is off Peru's on corruption gauges and French four million. This is these again are by Senate near Next up, we have idea lows. So for yellow will be using for shade lemon yellow, that's my whole yellow. And then, senator a light, which is gonna be my warm yellow again by seven year apart from does, we will be using the's colors, which is a white watercolor by sent clear. It's called Fighting in White Back Titanium by Daniel Smith and a white wash five Internet Again. You don't need to have these exact shape colors, because what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna show you the outcome off using these colors so that you can go ahead and take an informed decision. But you wanna work with them into them in your college or apart from that we have on truth . So we will be using coal and timber, throw sepia and burnt sienna. Don't worry if you don't have thes, because we will learn also how to mix them. But if you have any standard water color palettes like 12 article said, or 24 I'm sure you'll have one or two chosen it. So just for that and then for our sort of thing, we'll have our optional set of pains, which is yellow open in the tone. Blue on Ellison trims and deep. These are our colors, which we will be mixing s well, apart from this. Usual A. Possibly a brush. I'm using a Princeton brush inside. Six. It's from their headed Siri's. You can use any brush that you have. It's gonna work out buying we don't require some people don't dive off our work. Apart from this, you'll be riding a jar of water and then lastly, we will be using a palette. So I'm gonna be using the ceramic. Found it. You can go ahead and use any sort of talent that you have, even if it's a plastic pallets. Or you could also use a settlement. Played everything off that sort, both sides. So that's it for our supplies. Let's get started. 3. Cool vs Warm Primary Undertones: before we begin any further, I want us to cost. Learn to differentiate between cool and warm tones of primary colors. Now, this is something which is gonna come with a lot of practice and keen observation. The more you interact and explore your colors, the more you'll be able to at this time that what could be a cool don't primary and what would be a war crime to simplify it? For now, I have placed two yellows that we're using right next to each other. You can see that this lemon yellow is quite cool in comparison to the Senate earlier yellow light, which is a bit warmer color it has. It's off red in it. You know, That's why it looks more warmer in composition to this yellow. This yellow reminds you off. Maybe lemons, right. And this yellow would probably remind you off, right? Yellow, like maybe sunflowers. Okay, so this is how you should think of it. Now let's look at our next color, which is gonna be blue. So blue is overall a cool color. Yet there are warm and cool under. Don't stupid. This is the tale of blue and this is our ultramarine t When we put it next to each other, we can clearly see the Taylor Blue is a more cooler blue that is ultra marine. Deep is more warm or it's more dancer on and it is more, you know, it has hints off died in it if you really look at it. So this is how you could differentiate became to blues and then we have our reds. So we have our eventual 1,000,000 then we have opera. Does this oneness quite easier? One so you can see our Paros is more towards, I think, which means it does read, which has a little bit of blue in it, and hence it you know the reason. That's why it's kind of that, as if you look at French four million, it's a very deep, reddish orangish color, right, because it has not afraid to it. It's very dense. It gives you a very warm feeling, whereas this one gets your very cool feeling. So this is how essentially you would differentiate between warm and cold on primaries. I would be explaining them more in depth along with a lot of fury in our future lessons, So I think the concept of cool and wandering primaries will become even more Caro as we complete different exercises and go to different lessons. I hope this kind of gave you over to gauge for color is cool or warm tone so and excites, I would suggest for you to do is go ahead, take out your watercolor set and lay out all the colors on the sort of yellows. You have different views that you haven't constraints that you have and try to go to each of them and see in the fall under a cool don't primary or a warm don't trying. Okay, so that's it for our color temperatures. For now, let's get started with our next lesson. 4. Creating Colour Wheels Part 1: Now we will begin creating our color. It's the first Halloween that will create is for our cool primary colors, which is gonna be the lemon. You know, operas, the local. The second color wheel is gonna be with our warm primary colors, which has spent millions and yellow, light and ultra. Okay, so a template for the scalability is already present in the project. Resource is, you can go ahead, download that file printed out and probably trace it over. You want about people all. You're more than welcome to create your own that also, So we will be filling these bigger circles with our primary colors. And then we will see how the primaries mixes to give secondary colors on Gore Street. So starting off with this one, I'll be filling it with a Perot's. So I have my offered with you. I go ahead and fill it with poppers. I would recommend that you do this exercise with me because this is such a great way to get to know your colors up close, see their different properties and how they interact with other colors. So just grab your pains on your watercolor people and let's get started with us. The 2nd 1 that I'm gonna feel is this yellow, which is gonna be our them And you know somebody which is right here. I've actually squeezed out my paints in these. How offense. That's what I'm using. So this is the lemon yellow sheet. Okay? Now, what we're gonna do is we're gonna date these 25 colors and then create a second drink alone. He will achieve that by mixing equal amounts of these two gunners to give us the center color. So I'm gonna go ahead on at my lemon yellow here like so. And then I will go ahead and take my own curls. Kind of. I feel that it us a little bit more orange doing just so. This is our secondary color, which we get upon mixing are off rules and in equal proportions. This is what it now what I'm gonna do, issue would want to divide this color into office. So this is what I'm gonna do. You and then 1/2 you will go ahead and add more than and that village towards your local. Because this secondary star, Cherie Cano, basically tertiary colors when you take a primary and mix it with a second recover. You get a grocery cart, this star street color leans more towards yellow because we have next yellow in the secondary color and you can see Looks like a warm yellow tens will put it next to our lemon . You know, now we will go ahead and makes the second Ricardo with this crime related, which was our rose to give us a tour streak alone. It should be leaning towards this. So go ahead and big makes it to the other top of this. This is the color of that we get. It means more off. This is a now we will go ahead on bailout. Are Taylor blue in the SOCO? Don't you? Okay, this is our love. No. Right here. Now we will go ahead and start mixing fellow blue, and you know, it's mixed them in equal proportions to get our secondary color. This is the color that we get. This is gonna be second element now again, divide this color into parts. Okay? So just creating for lying on your settlement factor would actually buy them. Arts I hit makes one part with more off slimming to give us another shoot coming up, does she? It's a beautiful lemon green. What we do next s with a car second Rebello and makes more off. That's what Get a very beautiful next. What we will do as we will now be mixing our operas. But that you do. So let's makes them in equal amounts to get the second Ricardo. See you and then infinity. So then let's take some. Make sure to has to get right. Sweet. This is the blood on that we get. This is our second. Now you want to do by that cover parts trucking straight up. One part that's makes board off this offer foods. And this is the kind of car you get building store streak under closer to those because we mixed operas to our sick injury. And that's how we got Mr Street. Hello? Now go a hit on next. More off. Stay low Blue in artistry silicate something You on my brush makes it get a nice navy shape like so each on. That's it. Our first school primaries gallery The sub fleet Now it will be moving to our warm premise can reveal 5. Creating Color Wheel Part 2: What? That what we have to do is again gonna fillings time with friendlies. The biggest of us. So let's start first with our trench. Four million. I'm gonna fill it here. Okay? Like so. And then I'm gonna take this 78 year low. Gonna fit trying to you, Senator. Right now, what we're gonna do is we're gonna take equal amounts of this these two primaries on makes them and creators for secondary color. So let's do that here. Student mixing these doing equal pounds. Get this right. Orange condo. Yeah, I think it's two. Or tree. It's just final. Bring more. This our first family. A beautiful bright orange color now even divided into two parts. Go ahead. Three line No J French, four billion and mix it with one close. It means more. Okay, this is the color. This seems more towards French. Four million. You can see now we re taking the other half of this shit right here and mixing it with our give a light. Give us a very beautiful yellow shape video. Love to get in shape now, even call it and finish this primary color with our ultra deep like so and this we will be going on mixing them in equal proportions to create our for sick and Chicago on this side Any beautiful clean, which is bit muted. And we will learn why it is so then be complete Discover, baby. Actually, comparing took on real Cincy. Why did we achieve certain goals? So now what we do has been divided into two parts this second Ricardo right to you and I'm gonna fill. I'm actually gonna mix wine with some more yellow. This is my little makes one really loathe get So I get a nice you did Washington self. And for the other half, I've been a It's more like So next up, what you do is really mixing these two primary colors to in equal amounts to create our second recover. Divide this color into Hobbs on even being mixing one with French four million. So dividing the second chicanery, mixing by half but some mortar eventual millions and putting this color next to the French . This is Dr Sheik now for the other half will be taking some artillery and mixing it up with that metallic notes. And now we have completed for the kind of things we are ready to compare on contrast them. So that's what we're gonna be doing in our next lesson. 6. The Theory Behind Colour Undertones: So now that we have created our Duke Wallabies, let's have a look on compare and contrast them. So the first thing that we observe in this Pahlavi is generally the colors are very vibrant on their very bright in comparison to this allergy where the colors a little done on slightly muted. Okay, Another thing that we know this is the oranges that we got in this Pahlavi are a little stated the ones that we got here, they were extremely right on. If you have the greens, when we come there that these greens were extremely vibrant, right. But as thes ones were quite done on, there is a striking difference between the kind of violence that we part here. The ones with poetry got it quite right. Whereas these ones are extremely leaning towards crowds. And if we look at it, we would realize you did not get a true opal color right on. Now we will look into so as by these dispenses happened in the color on what is the reason behind. So let's zoom in a pit on. Have a look at the primaries that we took, Let's try and this time, the purity Now, if you look at these time Connors, for example this yellow I've actually put here on them in yellow, on suddenly a light. Similarly, for here, put our barrels on bombing in. And that makes those to get straight for this blue. We have actually used to do it. So what we understand is that all these families that we had a had a bias to them, they were either cool or they were either, right? What it means is they had a little bit tiny amount off the other primary. So, for example, if you look at this yellow and if you look at this, you know, this one has a little hint of blue in it. But it's this one. It has hints of red in it. If you look at this opera Rose, you will realize that has some amount of blue in it. And if you look at this eventual 1,000,000 condo, you would know that cars yellow in it. And if you look at this blue halo, you would see that it has hence up yellow in it. And this ultra marine blue had already discussed it, had hints off. OK, so now let's come up with a cool for this yellow. We can call it why? And then for this yellow, which is a warm gun over in college by our for this rain which is a red off speaking, which is what it means is is red with Chastain's and then for four million, we can call our why Similarly, But this blue we can call it be by and then this one as we are blue Chastain's of Reagan. Now that you have actually given that these symbols now you'll see how easy it is to anticipate and break down how we got whatever color mixes regard here on this color. So with this knowledge with this story that we have now, let's have a look at this color be forced. So we have our this kind off which is actually are being This is my whole red which is ready, which has hints of blue and the yellow that we have is actually are by B which is my yellow which has since this blue that we have is actually blue which has hands of okay, opinion first as we took our 100 on a cool yellow and mixed it together to get these covers . So the colors that you see here on this side off they are basically a mixed off R B plus y b. And you'll see that even though we were trying to mix are red with yellow in Advil errantly , we have also mixed tiny amounts of blue with them. Hence the colors that we have. Corton they are a little faded. They're not as vibrant as these ones because what we did here Waas This was our read which have yellow undertones. This was our yellow which are treated undertones. So when being mixed thes colors, we actually makes very jean covers. Why? Because this was a mix up our by less Why are and you'll see that there was no blue in it, right? There was no finding Your hands are amounts of blue and hence the colors that we received so vibrant. Okay, these are the orders just actually Now if we look at this blue color, this was our blue which hard red hints to write and then be mixed us red which had the elegance to it and Louverture virgins to it. Baby actually got quite a bit of muddy violet Brownish Collins, right? Why? Because we were actually mixing red with yellow and blue with red. So if you look at it, we have actually makes all three primaries together. We were trying to make straight in blue, but inadvertently also mixed a little bit amount of your loss. So with this color and hence the color that you get looks like so you know, it's muddy and brownish, okay. Whereas if you look here, more people trying to do is way. We're trying to makes RV plus B y, and we got this. So even here we have mixed a little enough yellow. If you want to create a true purple, you would want a pool red and you would want a warm, basically Alger Marine. And this red, that is opera lows would want to create a purple on the kind of shade that you get when you mix them. It's gonna be even more brighter than these funds. I mean, I assure you I have a tear. So yes, this is the kind of color you will get when you mix. Op arose aan ultra marine deep. So you see, this popal is very much brighter than any of the colors here because here also inadvertently, you make slight amounts of yellow, which we did not intend to. But because this blue was more the words, you know, yellow, it had yellow undertones to it. While mixing it, we ended up muting these colors of it very slightly, but still right. It's quite evident now if we look at some of the greens that we have here, even for the greens, you will observe what we did here. Waas. We used to blue, which are yellow undertones to it. He used a yellow which are blue undertones to it and hands big art clean mixes. There was no read and write for the colors. They did not have him suffering, and hence because beautiful, clean greens. But if you look at here, it's quite different. These kind of greens. We actually had a blue which had read in it, and we had a yellow which again had regulate. And that's why we ended up mixing accidentally on the three primary colors. We not only makes blue and yellow what we make slight amounts of bread, also, with hence the kind of greens that you get, they are quite knew that you and very so I hope this gives you some on next swears to what happens when you make certain kind of colors on this symbol is gonna come up very handy for you. Okay? Because even before you makes a color, you can anticipate the kind of collectible received. For example, let us see that if I were to mix yellow, which is red based on I would makes blue, which is a yellow based blue kind of color I will get is probably it's gonna be a dull or muted three. Why would that be so? Because you can see here that I'm mixing not only this yellow at this group, but side amount of red also in it. So the moment you makes all three primaries, you'll end up getting muddy or dirty colors because all the team might families, but they're mixed together. They give you either like the Doc Brown's or warm brown or a black color. So that is why that's the difference and reason why you get muted tones when you mix to families which have are different undergoing the different temperatures to them. So if you wanna make scullers, which are extremely clean, extremely vibrant. Mix the primaries, which has same color temperatures, are undertones, for example, blue and a yellow, and you get beautiful, cool, clean greens. I hope this was helpful. Now what we'll do is we will be combining these two Bolivians together. That is, we will be taking the best off both calories on reminding them together to create our split time ecology, which will not only have beautiful, vibrant purples, but we'll have to greens and clean oranges as well. So let's go ahead and create are split primary Collopy. 7. Split Complimentary Colour Wheel: So let's get started and create are split prime ecology. So again you can find this template in the project resources. Feel free to print it out or trace it on your water. It's a couple of things to consider before we begin. Our split trend can be What is the spirit trying recover? Basically, we will be combining all six apart primaries both warm and cool tones into the scallop e on . If you remember, there were certain parts of Calabria which turned out quite right. And then we will be capitalizing one that so we want this color being. You have the most cleanest and brightest mix of gunners. Okay, so far stopped maybe again filling this with our primary colors. People be dividing them into two parts. So this party believe we will be filling it without whole yellow, which was are lemon yellow and for the spark will be filling it without warm. So let's begin. So let's first fill it without cool, which is are lemon yellow. So I've marched up you and see whatever mark see, make sure defend that half your full time on the other heart with your warm crime. Okay, so I would again and gratitude do painted along with me Because again, this exercise is gonna show you how beautiful are split from primary color really captures all the vibrant cheese. So we had done no battle. That is when on the other side, Teoh Next up they will be filling our look here. So again, cold blue on the site and form on this side Here I'm taking my ultra Marine deep finished on this side. Nice. So and then we'll be feeling the other half with our whole job, which is out taking our things flow off course. Make sure that you wait for the colors to dry. Otherwise Palin's might bleed into each other and also make sure to use very less water. Don't use too much water. Otherwise these candles would I believe into trouble. And then with distinction. Now what we're gonna do ISS we will be using operate ALS on French. Four million to fill up this. Okay, so let's begin by creating our second Ricardo by mixing the school. You know the school We are sick. Kendrick alone which we get. I'm mixing these two primaries. 11 no oceans. Now we've been divide this into two parts and thanks. Some extra yellowing, One part and something in the other person says already just blue. I'm gonna go ahead and mix it with this to get this scandal. Just gonna be a bluish green This is we're gonna do is ask more yellow to the screen So and this is the color that we get It's a beautifully I'm in get Why make second the ocean decide off Help me That's pretty much done. Could be moving on toward this side We have been mixing are warm yellow without trying to get some beautiful Just so what I'm gonna do ISS Let's have our orange color like so And that makes what I do divided in arts And then in one party Go ahead and four million adding yellow to the other. Now we'll be looking at up opals If you remember in our previous color beans, we did not have a very clean so that's going to get solved because to make a very clean for you need a cool and a bomb. So let's take some ultra marine you And now I'm gonna take off struggles, mixing all girls with to create a beautiful clean. This is the life that we did not have a nomics in, the previous column said We created largest shape. Let's divide this into parts almost dividing. It makes more glued to it. It's gonna turn into. Maybe this marks the completion off are split privately. Gonna, being the basis of this entire color wants to create colors which are most cleanest, most y print, as you see here. And then we divided our primaries into parts just to make sure that great using clean balance to make. So, for example, used to read which tracks flew in that used blue, which had slight amount of read in it. And there's no yellow presented, both of them heads beautiful by French left, and similarly, we did it for on the government's. So now we're done with our pretty much solitary on creating handle feels Let's look at another mixing 8. Mixing Neutral Colours: So let's look at creating some upon neutrals first, I will be explaining in fortune out neutrals. The first we have is Winsor and Newton set me off. You can see here. Let's take this out and sort No. Let's see how we can make sepia suppose stop for mixing. All the new Jones will be requiring only mostly are warm primary colors. I'm taking a little bit of yellow here, my family a yellow light, which is my home, you know, And a little bit of this, which looks like almost right. And now we are going to do it. If you remember the Lawrence that if he makes all three colors together, we would need to get a black or a play or a brown in this case. So that's on you trolls on me. Let's make a little bit of this on C. I think it still bit more Your laundry mixed, More blue. A little bit of hydrated. No. Okay. No, it's too much red. So let's make a better. So we have to get to this shape, okay? No, it's this throne. So just for Cynthia, he will be mixing very tiny amount available to us do it. That's yes, Almost coming through. It just makes big more. I don't know. I have forward on the spark, so I have to mixing again. That's a bit tricky to makes. These colors are cure. Surely Get there again. I think no one needs just a tiny bit of most people very close to our city. You can see this is what we have created very similar. Okay, some of this was our superior just market. So that's how we created Tapia. Next color that will create is born dumbbell. So let's look at watching the book number first. This is my winter. Newton. Bartman weren't on board. As you can see, - this farm work. So to create the sculler, we will be needing normal, you know, injured. I'm putting this against you know, two million and in your eyes it's almost there when it's good. Yeah, maybe just those are Carlo, which is number you can see this was my born with that? No, um our next colors Rumbo, which is why they knew No stick. See how that smart girl number is absolutely, absolutely stunning. But you see, and this Watch it out. This is a girl. You can see the gorgeous brother and it has. That's a grid summits trying. Next I'll be using, you know, let's off red just better here and rain just slightly bitter because we want just anything and we're almost getting Germany and very little bit of staying. In the end, you would need, of course, but more so. This comes with a bit off hidden trial. You will have to Nixon tree colors. Sometimes one color would become to mustard with over bubble. And that's when you will have to get a bit and see which were so finally happy with it. I just got We're just gonna be almost like lumber. I feel maybe it's a bit lighter. So for that, when you see if I can mix this, they blew again. And this one million on just a bit of, you know, mix it on. Yes, I think I quite like it before. No. Okay. It's quite a dogs to get eggs and helping. Just moving. Okay. Yeah. Yes. So this is my you see. So just play around with your colors a bit, and you will know which one makes the last color that be drinking at IHS are full in Sienna . We just fine sent India and this and so very well browned services majorly I'm gonna be are yellow and red mix a little bit of ultra marine blue to neutralize it. So let's start creating this. We could be using our again home your warm trimmer going to utilize it all. I think we're almost there. Yep. It's just our order to see enough. Okay, so now we look at how to create our with the colors. This was an important part. If it because we've been alone that creating windage colors there are two ways to it won us two neutrals and then the others by picking off fourth color. So let's look at that. Listen next. 9. Mixing Pastel Colours Part 1: So let's get started with our pastors. Let's see how we can mix best ALS before we begin. However, I would first want to talk a bit about values. So what is the value when you talk about watercolors? The new is defined by the paint, the water issue that a certain mixed hat. So if you have more saturated paint mix, then you're gonna have a higher value of that. Gonna that. And if you say have more water in a paint, next thing that's going to give you your donor value. Okay, so let's look at this color you. This is our French four million on. I'm gonna create its highest tonal value, which is gonna be this color right here. You can see that this is extremely dense and rich. This is a very high donor. You now to achieve a tonal value, Lord, in this, all you have to do is make some water, and then the color that you'll get will be lower in value. So this is the scandal that you get. Then what you're gonna do is keep fixing more water and you keep achieving more lighter values off the same Cardinal Hume Now, when we speak about pastel colors, they're basically very soft colors. So one way to achieve pastel colors is to use a very light value off the watercolor that you're using the skin book for watercolors. However, if you're using some other medium, this may not work back much. So I'm just gonna keep on creating values that isn't just adding more and more water. And the amount of pain is getting lesser and lesser, as you can see. And then we're almost at our lightest from you, which is like so so this is called our values. So these are different values that were important. So these are our, um, darker values, and these are our light over the news, and this is called our value scheme for more gunners. So you can observe and see that if I want to create our pastel shade for this particular color, I could very well go ahead and choose the lightest value of that cargo. And that could pass off as a beautiful pass turn shape. So this is also one day you can approach pastors with watercolors specifically, let me put this aside and let's discuss our first method which is gonna be by adding and mixing white water color so you can see here in my palette, I have by watercolor. I have my back titanium, and then I have my white wash. So one big on into is we're gonna take couple of colors. I'm going to limit myself to our primaries so that we keep the class pretty simple. But you're more than welcome to pick any color of your choice. And you can do this exercise with that color and you'll get similar results. So, for example, let's again look at our four million shade. I'm gonna put it in three, um, places and we're gonna see the kind of colors we get. Then we mix it with different colors. So this is our true war 1,000,000 shape right here. Okay. And we'll see the kind of colors we get when we mix it with different kind off whites from watercolors. Andi also from wash just watching out, scholar. And then one more right to you. Like so. Okay, so now for the 1st 1 we will be mixing the scholar with white water condo. So this is my white water color. I'm gonna take a little bit amount of that, and I'll mix it with this. So when you mix white water color with any other watercolor, of course it's going to make it slightly opaque. But you'll still have some transparency left because you're still mixing water. Connor's. However, it wouldn't be as transparent as it Waas only. So this is the government we get when we makes a little bit of fight. Now let's increase our amount of white more. So I'm increasing more white color and adding more bite color toe this French four million . And this is the kind of color you get. Beautiful beachy color. This a pastel hue you can see, and then you can also use the light of value of the skull. If you wanted, that is just a bit more water to it, and then you get even lighter shade. See you. And also you could just go ahead and add more right to it and make it even lighter. So it's this kind of very light powder being sort of shaped as a beach. Nothing this is gonna you get Now let's do the same exercise, and this time will be mixing it with our off find color, which is our buff titanium right here. So go ahead and pick a little bit of puff titanium and mix it with us French for millions. You'll see the kind of gonna get it's gonna add to its brightness. So because titanium has hints of yellow in it, it is actually a cream ish white color. It's gonna give you very unique mixes like you see this one here. It's very bright brothers. When we mixed just plain white to it, it became quite flat, and it's lacking those yellow undertones which are here. I'll go ahead and mix more buff titanium to this color, and then we will get a beautiful coral pastor Hugh. You can see here, right, and then we will mix Bit more effect on you will see it become. It'll become a cream ish coral like So now we'll be doing the same exercise with our white wash. So when you're working with wash, make sure that you're very careful because with caution, even a tiny amount can produce radical results. So you see, I disc used. I barely touched my brush to the white core. Sheer on already the color looks so lighter you can see on It's becoming quite a big and go ahead and add more wash. And this is gonna that we get and your big flat bastard Hugh a bit more. Do it. It's gonna light in it, even for Dole can really get a beautiful part of being shaped. So this is how you can create Paston shoots. Now I'll go ahead and experiment with Billy Westman so you 10. Mixing Pastel Colours Part 2: can. She was anything you want. I think I'm gonna go ahead, but are ultra marine blue and see the kind of mixes that we get. I'm gonna divide it again into three parts. Okay, Now, let's take our white water color. You make six. I actually ended up mixing too much, right, and we didn't even take us a week. That's just a swatch it out. Good night. Put more fear and let's just watch out. Are under marine first. So this is the true ultra marine shade that we have here. It's ultimately deep. This is the Carl ordinance entirety intact with no whites mixed. So let's do this. Okay? Now, what we're gonna do is because I makes too much, right. Suddenly, I'm gonna take some more intimidating and makes it here. And this is the kind of Carlo we get. Men be mix white. Okay? It's going and make some more bites to it. And you get beautiful. That study condo go ahead and makes even more right to it. That's when you get this right. No, we will be mixing buff titanium with it. So just a little bit of buff titanium with the central Marine, and we'll see how it response This is a tiny amount of off titanium to it isn't much of a difference right now. Let's go ahead and add more buff titanium, and you're gonna see the beautiful, different blue it will create, actually not blue but sort of a green. It will create the moment you increase the concentration of park titanium even more, and the reason for that is again. It has yellow undertones to it, and that's what is going to lend that beautiful greenish color. So right now it's still towards blue, this vehicle crash blue collar that we get. And then, if you keep on adding even more of titanium, that's when you get that beautiful green color, almost like bluish green color. Still a bit gree. Go ahead and a bit more to it on, even get that to come. But beautiful green gunner was talking about. You can see it's almost greyish green color, so this cover off titanium is very unique. I feel it gives you really unique shades when you mix it with other hunters. Let's try it with George, So I'm gonna take my white horse a little bit if it on mixing it with our ultra marine. Just a bit of Warsh and automatically you see a huge difference in the cargo so you can see here. I'm gonna go ahead and add more. Gosh, and we have a moral big. We're just gonna be are just gonna right here. Andi can go ahead and even more gorge to it on. We'll get a very or bake powder blue collar. You will see what I mean. See, extremely night. So this is basically, you know, different kinds of, please. You can create pastor covers. Now let's do it for one more color. Let's do it for our Perot's some taking our operadores and dividing it again in three barks . So let's first go ahead and makes white watercolor. Dude, I'm not gonna swatch out Up arose because you already know the color. Some directly going on. Go ahead and mix white to it the moment you makes right to ah Perot's you get a beautiful pink. Hello. I actually makes too much right and concedes, quite think, go ahead and makes it more right to it on. You'll see that it becomes even more like so. Then you can go ahead and use to make even more right for the movie. The color will become even more bigger. See right here, Right? No. With puff titanium, we again take a little bit of appetite in him, not too much and makes it with our our pearls. You get a very different kind of pink shade here, which has no slightly warm undertones to it. And when you go ahead and mix even more, we'll be transforming it into a beautiful quarter shape. Eventually, go ahead and add even more. But titanium on this is the cover of chicken. Let's try it out with wash. So for wash, what we're gonna do is we're gonna take a little bit, of course, and added to our girls immediately. It becomes video beak on tonight. We're not a bit more to it, and this is the kind of car you get. Finally, let's go ahead and a bit more to it. It's gonna become almost white, which has hands off, see. So I hope this exercise encourages you to explore your own watercolors and mix them with different rights or fights on even a whitewash. In case we don't have this particular shade of titanium. You can achieve it easily by mixing some light lemon yellow calo or maybe Naples yellow with this titanium white, and you will get the same cream ish back titanium. So that is one. Now that we have seen how to makes our pastel colors, let's go ahead and have a look at how to makes our vintage colors. 11. Mixing Vintage Colours Part 1: Let's see how we can make our vintage colors to choose. So before we begin that I want to discuss a bit about what are actually rented shoes. So when the shoes are colors which are be saturated and muted when you look at our color, we like the one here. You see that these colors are supersaturated and vibrant, right? And when you de saturate the color, you create a linkage tone of so how we can achieve back is again by actually three methods the post one is You can mix a color with mutuals seconds. You can mix it with its complementary color, and the third is you can actually take $3 a Z. Your primaries and whatever policy mix with them that would essentially give you all the bandage are muted. So now let's go ahead and see the nutrients that we have. So we have already learned how to mix these neutrals in our previous lesson so you could actually go in and makes your own neutral are you produce anyone you choose from these, so pick anyone that you want. If you want more, more, more muted tones, you could take a born number if you want more, more towards neutral. Not too warm not to call you a number. And if you want more doctor tones, you can go for sepia more. Piper Nugent. You want to go for a bond? Sienna Okay, these are nutrients are essentially mixes off all the three primaries, and hence whenever you make sectors any other color, it's gonna be such. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna be showing you how our colors get muted with the use of point number. This is the color I'm gonna pay again. I'll be limiting myself to our primaries, mostly just to make sure that the class is simple. So let's look at the first color, which we have here. We're using French for millions. Now, if I go ahead and pick a little bit of this burned off or should and makes it, I start getting a de saturated color, which is like, so so again, whenever you're mixing colors, make sure, but you makes slight amounts, okay? And don't go overboard with it, because otherwise you may end up losing the color completely and using it entirely. Now we take some more born combo and makes it again, but this get a Ford a muted. Eventually in shape, you can see some more tread, more muted color of the moon, you to color. You mix, the more it will go towards grounds. Gordon makes more foreign number, and you see that star leaning towards Brown Shoot. It's more on this becomes a video. This is how you can meet a color by mixing new transit that that's even upland. Hamburgo, Amba sepia are on CNN. Now. Let's look at the same thing again. Germany. And let's start taking on a bit of this is actually too much of tempo. You can see that automatically. The dieting started looking great. Put your money. Get a slight amount. Number two stay similar to devote and watch out money Here. This is how it feels without go. He makes more than Germany into this. Make sure you see that it comes slightly more might good. Let's increase and make some more. Become beautifully. Throw three actually like. So would it make some more of your number? I didn't start going towards on your truth like this. Okay, so this is our first better off leading with stones by mixing with us for a second. My therapy will be actually mixing complementarities. What it means is if I want to create windage muted. Don't support this Ventura 1,000,000 after actually mix it with its complementary color. So let's have a look at the complementary four are French. 12. Mixing Vintage Colours Part 2: if you don't get the color leave here. This was our French four million and the color right across or straight opposite to it is its complementary color, which is this dream. It was a mixture of Julia yellow and cool blue. So when he makes this green with this French, one million will get you difference. So let me go ahead and create this cream by mixing lemon, yellow and blue. Let's go ahead and get that. This is my lemon yellow. My low makes that gene here long and this is the green that we have. You can see it's this'll stream right now What we're gonna do is we're gonna take our French form. Okay? So again, I'm gonna create muted tones for French four million. I'm gonna swatch it out here as it's all by itself without any colors next to it. Like so. Then we're gonna go and take a little bit of this kind of a small amount and just makes it this French for move and see the kind of problem you get. It's this year to shape. You see, you can see how beautifully this color has now become so mean You go ahead and take a little bit more of this coming on. This is the shape you get. Then eventually, when you mix thes complementarities in equal proportions, you're gonna end up making sounds as if you remember. This is a mix of blue and yellow and this is your red. So essentially, when you mix equal amounts, you're actually mixing all three primaries together. And hence your creator, Brown. I go in and add some more to it on. This is coming. You get so adding some more. Do it and keep on becoming more Rome. Someone on you can see it's becoming more brown. More custom, it almost looks like. Okay, no, we'll do the same exercise for blue support our ultra marine blue. It's complimentary. Color is this orange color, which is straight opposite to it. It was a make sure from yellow on our eventual 1,000,000 are formula personally, you know, light. So let's makes those two colors to cap. So this is my senator light the warm yellow. I'm gonna mitt French warming again can create that. I think it means a little bit more yellow. I opened it french for me. Okay, this is the orange farmer to be wanted. This is our ultra machine. What did you try to you? Okay, so I'm just gonna swore, child, I'm Jim a gene, or by itself, without mixing any gunners you. And now we'll start mixing. So let's take a little bit of this orange and mix it with our ultra Marine and immediately starts becoming the saturate. You can see that this color is very similar to the one be mixed here. Go ahead and take summer orange. Mix it again. You get this deep, dark shoot. It makes spit more and you'll start making brown's a bit more see kind of groans you get So these are the muted tones that you're looking for which you can get by slightly adding or mixing in the complementary off the color that you want to meet. The third method is actually quite different. It is by mixing three different old. So these are the colors. These are old stones, as you can see here Needs to our by Daniel Smith Yellow car in Mentone flow. And then this satisfy Sam Ilia. Are Ellison crimson deep. So when you take three primary colors and your next time you will automatically have muted on terms. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna take to off them, ensure you how they makes on Let's take yellow polka on our in to create some of the greens . Let's see the kind of brings weekend with them. So first off, I'm gonna take some in dental on blue and put it here, kids, I did some more. So let's go ahead and swatch this out. This itself is an off color. You see, it's a muted low. There are more colors out there. You've been voted in, search more of those. I'm gonna take a little bit of coca and makes it here. And let's see the kind of color get I think I need more to start. Simply means yes, we have post cream. It's actually a greenish color again. You gonna just be attention? If you could see that sad moral which kind of clean we could know. You know, you look at the screen, it's free stream color here, many muted follow very de saturated. I'm gonna get some mixed now the kind of being that you get use again. The saturated let's go ahead and make some more to it. This is gonna get sort of thing on this de saturated or green And then I'm gonna show you what happens if you actually makes them Alison Crenson with this sort of. That's just what I'm actually running out of space in my device. This so again. Alison in Crimson is also a beautiful, earthy red color. It's the sculler all by itself, without any mixing. No, let's go ahead and make some poker. Do it. You see the kind of orange is it? Please? It's pretty much the same for was slightly more warmer, adding some more occur to it so you can see all these colors are very saturated. The reason for that is the primaries that we're using to makes them are the saturated or art don't primary colors, and hence all the mixing secondary in your street follows that we get would be again more. Let's go ahead and act somewhat good. This dream right here that we were mixing and see what kind of a weekend I'm guessing it's gonna be yellowish. Yep, many beautiful car. So this was our third method on learning how to makes vintage are or colors by actually picking three primary colors in our example, took a local in uncle on Ellison, consenting to create on these sheets. Next lesson we would be talking about how to bake or decide on Taliban. It's 13. Bonus Lesson Breif Colour Schemes: in this lesson. Let's have a look at different color schemes which are possible on are out there. That could also help you pick your color palettes. So the 1st 1 is we have our complimentary common scheme. That is, if you use any color, say yellow and then you use a color which is right opposite to it on the calorie Anarchist , this is proper. If you use these two together, they go pretty well because they're complimentary. Comments. Another way. If using this is the split complementary Palestinian, which is you really leave out the scholar, the compliment fellow, and instead use the colors adjacent to it so you could go ahead and use this. You know this beautiful violet color here and then this blue violet. And then again, the entire composition would look quite harmonious. Those card type off color scheme that we have is it's all. Try attic colisee, which is all the colors, are equal, distantly placed on the calorie. For example, this yellow red and this floor all these three creates that try attic color schemes. If you use this yellow, red and blue in combination in a composition, the resulting composition would turn out very pretty and striking with a lot of fun trust. Now the fourth kind is our tragic Pahlavi. It's off two kinds again, Bannister Square one great and all the colors are equal, distantly placed on it on, then the another kindness this rectangular one right here. So say this red and then you have this orange and then you have the screen and then you have this blue. Basically, it's a pair of two complementarities for blue. The compliment is orange and then for the red complimented screen. So that's what the color scheme is. These full color. If you use it again together, the result would be very harmonious on music. Apart from that, there is also a very interesting tool, which you can use to plan out your Palestinians and color palettes, which is a low card, as you call it. Why is this so interesting and important is so it has two sides to it. The first is where you get to know a lot about different ends, shades on and values off color. So, for example, this is there are blue. If you mix it with red, you're gonna get a while. If you makes a red violet with yellow. You're gonna get this beautiful brown a shape. So this is how it works. And then it also tells you what happens when you mix white with the color. For example, if you use a while, it makes quite with it. You get this beautiful lilac color if you makes black with the color what happens, you get a darker shade of that. So this is quite handy. In fact regard. Another interesting thing is, if you flip it towards its backside, what you're gonna get is again just what I explained to you, the different color schemes and this actually moves so you can decide safe. You wanna pick this color this audience right here. This is your pure kinda, and you wanna use it in a split. Compliments is king. It's pretty easy. You can go in and see that you can go ahead and use a blue violet with it on a blue green along with this orange, and that's going to give you a split complementary scheme. If you wanted to use a try and color scheme, you you can use this orange this violent and this sort of between to give you a triad economy skin off colors. So, yeah, definitely check out the stool. It's very handy. You can actually also use Lord of Tools on lying that this one application, called Cooler by Adobe Back also gives you a lot of different fellow combination and options. So there's one more scheme that I forgot to speak about, and that's called the monochromatic color scheme, which is basically, if you remember our value scale like so So it's essentially just using the same color, but in different variations off its tonal values, like so this is called a monochromatic philistine. Again, it's gonna look quite pleasing because you're using same color in different strengths. So that's that. I hope this class was really helpful to you, and now you feel more confident with your knowledge of colors on you. Go ahead and experiment a lot by mixing lot of colors in creating your own unique color combinations and Taliban. Thank you so much for watching 14. Final Thoughts: now that we have completed our class, I hope you have much more clarity about colors and what was behind cologne mixing. And you can create your own mutual self pastors. And nearly because, for the sake of complicity, be limited our Kalapana to climb trees in this class, I would encourage you all the techniques that we have learned all other colors that you own in your color and see the kind of results that you get. This exercise would help you become even more comfortable with colors as foreign projects you've incorporated flowed all common sense we explored throughout this class. Also, you can create your own Texas at your most project my brain section. Now, if you want to ensure your with me over, I would love to have a look at your work and share it with its Now, If you enjoy this class, I would request you to leave me on.
