Project Description

Learn about color using a hands-on approach: Collect color swatches and wheel and do some creative color collecting to start integrating your color mixing knowledge.

For the class project, you can do as many or as few of the exercises as you'd like. In the first part we'll be doing a deep dive into collecting tints, shades, tones, hues and complementaries to complexity your use of color and train your hands & eyes to find the colors you're looking for. 

Color Swatch Collecting

  • Collecting grays - color swatches
  • Collecting tints & shades - color swatches
    • White + Red
    • Red + Black
    • White + Yellow
    • Yellow + Black
    • White + Blue
    • Blue + Black
  • Color wheel with 3 primaries—> 1 or multiple 
  • Warm/cool exercise

Creative Color Collecting 

In this section, you're going to be creating a bunch of different paintings using specific color palettes and a variety of prompts to keep you inspired! Challenge yourself, try different things, view them as experiments & explorations along your artistic journey of creative color collecting.
