Project Description

Complete one ten-minute exercise on your path to Must.

Your assignment is to create an artifact that represents your path to Must.

We'll be completing the class in two phases: PLAY and FOCUS.

01 — PLAY
In PLAY, the first phase, we will diverge. We'll work with prompts that branch us into many possibilities. Think quantity over quality. You'll harvest a lot of stuff. This phase will feel fast and fun because that's the spirit of Must. It loves chaos, mess-making, and seeing things in new ways. In this phase, you will complete four different exercises for ten minutes each, creating a rich, bubbling subset of content to work with.

02 — FOCUS
In FOCUS, the second phase, we will converge. I'll walk you through a series of exercises that help whittle and edit through your content from the first phase. Focus is about seeing more clearly where your Must is headed. Here, we will eliminate, combine, and focus your intentions by completing another six exercises, also for ten minutes each.

These exercises will give you many entry points for your journey, and you will ultimately land at a final artifact that will guide you on your path to Must.

Materials you'll need:

  • Regular sized black Sharpie marker—having a few is always handy!
  • Unlined notecards—I prefer 4x6
  • Push pins—I like these
  • Timer—this one has magnets, a little stand, and counts up and down
  • Computer
  • Printer (color is ideal) & paper
  • Your smart phone

Upload at least one of the 10, 10-minute exercises you have completed.

If you complete all exercises, upload the artifact that represents your path to Must. This could be something you make, a ticket stub, a piece of writing, or a rock you picked up — anything that represents your journey. Remember that you can update your project over time: I would love to see your progress on each exercise!
