About This Class

Learn how to make a beautiful Pinterest Graphic with Canva, a free software platform for designing expert looking graphics in a short amount of time!

One of the things that draws people to Pinterest is the amount of information that you can get visually in a short amount of time. Pinterest has provided a wonderful platform that is great for social media graphics and infographics. Because of it’s longer image size resolution, it’s important that we use a proper template to ensure that it looks good on desktop and mobile.

When you are finished, I encourage you to upload your image to this class for the rest of us to see. Getting feedback from other students is a great way to learn what looks good and what does not. It’s also very motivating to get your creations out there and share them with the world.

1. Introduction: in this lesson, we're going to be creating a Pinterest graphic. Pinterest is a social media platform that uses images and graphics toe help spread awareness of businesses and brands. So it's important that we create a good graphic to help captivate our audience and toe learning more about or business or brand. First, I'm going to show you examples of some great Pinterest graphics. I'll show you some graphic design principles that go into creating these graphics, such as color, typography, composition and more. After that, we'll use camera to choose some pre made templates of some great pinch s graphics so that you can easily begin creating your own. After that, I'll show you how to export that as a low resolution j. P g file. We want to use a low resolution J. P G file, since we will be sharing this on the social media platform, and this will just help make it load faster, especially since Pinterest graphics are usually larger in size. Finally, at the end of this course, I encourage you to upload your pen trust graphic to this course so that both me, as an instructor can see, and other students we can give you critiques and feedback on what you can do to make you're a graphic better in the future, and it's very motivating to get your graphics up there and out in the world. So if you're ready to get started, let's go ahead and jump right in. 2. Examples of Pinterest Graphics: before we begin creating our Pinterest graphic. Let's go ahead and take a look at a couple of examples, and the first thing that I wanted to show you is inside of the camp. A program. If we go to Social Media Post, you can see here is our Pinterest graphic at a resolution of 735 pixels by 1102 pixels. Because pin dress typically likes a longer type graphic. Now, you can actually use an even longer graphic than this. But as of right now, camera is using this dimension size. But please note that they may update this in the future. Or they may add another template to support the even longer graphic styles. And I'll show you those in just a moment if we click on this is going to bring up this page where we begin designing, and I just pulled up one of the templates so you could get an idea of the size here. Now this is at 50% and this is just a basic template that I pulled up, showing some some ah color codes and different things here. If I zoom into 100% you can see the size that's actually being used. Now, if we go over to Pinterest, I've pulled up the graphic design boards and you can see some different ones that we have here and this one in the middle. It looks like Sarah here made some graphic design inspiration, and this looks more of the size that Canada uses. So this this will be the size it will be using for templates. But you can see that, you know, with Pinterest, it's very image based, and you can use all kinds of different things. You can use it for just displaying, um, inspiration. You conduce any type of artwork or cool things that you're creating. Pinterest is great for design and D I Y and culinary cooking. And what have you, um, you can also see it's great for Blawg Post or any type of branding. So here's 40 floral typography designs, and they have this great graphic called into the Wild. And then another great thing that pen dresses used for are these infographics. So here we have a visual representation of information amusing design. So Pinterest is really good with any type of design, um, or any type of images. So it's gonna be really cool to dive in here and create some things inside of this. And I really encourage you toe come up with some different types of designs and definitely share what ever it is that you come up with. So let's go ahead and get started. 3. Using Canva to Create a Pinterest Graphic: Okay, now that we've looked at some examples, let's go ahead and begin designing. So we're going to go to the Create a design section and we're going to go down to Social Media Post and we're going to select Pinterest graphic. And when we do this is going to open up the design dashboard. And as you saw it before, we can make all kinds of different Pinterest graphics. We can do just standalone images, images for a blogger or business or brand we can do tips or tricks or productivity hacks, infographics all kinds of different things. So let's go and see if we can find something that we can use here in a pic of free image. I like this culinary one, um, culinary D I Y food does really good on Pinterest, so maybe we we have something in the culinary niche that we would like to use. So let's go to elements on the left hand side and pick out an image. Now, of course, you'd probably use one of your own images or, um, a free image that you have. So, uh, this looks cool. What? This image of these blueberries I really like this color. If we double click on this, we can move it around. But I think that right there in the center actually looks pretty cool. And like, I just really like the color of this graphic. I think it's working really good. So then we could change this out and say something similar. So, um, maybe we were talking about different ways that you can use blueberries for your diet or the health benefits of them. So maybe we say something like that. 10 health benefits of blueberries and it looks like that's a little too big. So we'll need a take it down a font size. Okay, so this is working really good. And then let's give it a subtitle. So say, um, let's see, add fresh blueberries to your daily diet for healthier lifestyle. So and then I mean, that's just as easy as it is is coming in. You can adjust these templates, change out this information. We could change out these fonts if we want to. I think this fun. It looks really good with this image. I think it's working out. Okay here, Um and then, of course, maybe we want to put our name down here at the bottom. So I would do, um, my business or brand or my name. So at Jeremy Deegan is where you'd find me on Pinterest. Now, we are doing a blueberry graphic here, and so this is still has a hamburger symbol at the top. So I don't know if I would keep this, I'd probably actually just get rid of that. And I could feel something else in there. Maybe we can see if we can find something real fast. If If I don't find something right away, then I'm not going to stress it too much. But I could just do a circle might look cool. Um, because they are blueberries. So you could just do like a simple circle might look neat. So something like that could work. Let's do a search and see if we can find blueberries in here. Maybe there's, ah, symbol. Probably going to be mostly images, but sometimes they have some two D graphics or symbols. Yeah, it looks like it's gonna mostly be images of blueberry. So that won't work for so yeah, I would probably just pick a simple element like a circle, something that might resemble a blueberry like we chose there, trying to see if there would be one even better type in sphere And seeing how that that brings up anything and camera has a Thanh of images and graphics to choose room, you could literally come in here for hours looking at some of the stuff they have. So when we type in circle, we get some kind of cool things going on here. It's just a matter of going through and taking a look at these things. These colors, Okay, scene of the colors that that could be changed out. Sometimes they've got these images and you can actually change some of the colors and make him unique. That is not one. Maybe this circle would work. See, this is one where we could actually change out the two individual colors. So I'll try to find something in that blue range and then something similar but darker to give it that shadow. So that looks good. Um, we could also think about maybe changing this graphic and its colors around. Maybe we make this blue instead. Um, it looks like it might clash a little too much. With that. We could also, yes, see the yellows working really good because we're working with complementary color, so colors opposite of the color wheel. So we've got the blue, and on the other side of that is yellow so that yellow is actually working very well because those colors complemented one another. So I think I'm going to leave the yellow. I think that works good. Maybe we take this middle symbol here and change that out to one of the blue colors we used . And that just helps tie in that that blueberry and those colors. We could try the text and see if that darker blue works. It's not too bad, um, turned that back to that gray. So this provides some contrast and actually helps draw your attention to the word blueberries. So just by giving that a different color than the rest of the text that immediately make sure I look at that very quickly and pop straight to it. So that works, too. I really like the way that comes out 10 health benefits of blueberries at fresh blueberries to your daily diet for healthier lifestyle, and if you really wanted to get fun with it, you could you could change out blue Bears here, too, and it just kind of reinforces it. But it's not necessary. And it's not even that noticeable, but very quickly. You can come in here and you can change out some of these templates some of these graphics and pop in your own information. And then what I like to do is whenever I'm doing any type of branding, I'll pick a template like this. That's pretty standard, and I'll use the same template on Pinterest all the time. So always choose this template, and I'll just change out of the background image and the Texan and what have you And then that ways. I can always use the same template so people begin to understand that that's my style. That's my template, And any time that they see this, they realize that this is coming from me. Um, and all I need to do is maybe change out some colors. I change out the background image. Maybe I change this yellow to a different color toe. Compliment that background image and I changed out the text, but very quickly I can come in here inside of camera, create some great pen trust graphics and immediately have something that I can go start helping out my business and my brand 4. Exporting Your Pinterest Graphic: now that we have our pin dress graphic complete, let's go ahead and export this out. So the first thing we need to do is rename it. So I might just rename this blueberries or something. Whatever. 10 health benefits of blueberries whatever makes sense to you, and we can just click on the download button here now for Pinterest. We probably want to use the J. P G file. It's gonna be a little smaller file size. They'll have a little less quality, but it won't be noticeable, and I'll just upload and reload on the Pinterest website rather quickly. So we'll go ahead and click on that. You could do a, ah, high quality PNG and Pinterest will be able to handle it. It'll be a nice, crisp, sharper image, so you you might want to try either one of these and just see how they look. But I would go with the J. P G. I think that it's going to look fine. You're not going to notice a big quality difference, and it's just going to make it easier to upload this to your Pinterest account. So we'll just click on that one time and because we used a free template, and we use free graphics and images. We won't need to pay for any of the services of Camba. However, if you do use any, ah, images that are dollar or different template that you have to pay for, this is when it will prompt you to do that. So I just exit that out. You can see it downloaded in in the chrome browser. So now I can just click on this blueberries dot jp g file and there is our graphic, so it's ready to go. I can go ahead and upload that right to my Pinterest account pennant to a board. And, ah, just like that, we have a very quick, easy graphic made, and it's just that simple with camera. One reason I just love this program is it makes it so easy to use. It's fast, it's quick. They have a huge database of images and graphics and logos and, uh, templates and backgrounds, all kinds of different things that you can use to easily come out here and make your own graphics anyway that you want. So if you have any questions, feel free to ask them. You can contact me directly in the lesson in the course, Wherever you want to ask those questions, I'm always available and definitely upload your graphic to the course because we would all like to see what you've been working on. 5.
