1. Capturing Your First Camtasia Studio Screen Cast: Welcome back in this lecture, we're going to cover how to use the can Tasia recorder, but we're going to begin by setting up what we're gonna record. Now. Here I have the blue screen of just a neutral screen. Pick a background, but you should have just a neutral screen to begin your recording. You shouldn't have all kinds of stuff. All of your desktop. Let me show the way that you get rid of stuff on your desktop. If you're running in Windows seven, which I happen to be, you go to the desktop right click under view. You can come down and you can unclip the show desktop icons you could see if I click that on. I get a lot of icons about all kinds of stuff that I don't want you to necessarily see, so I can easily disable that the same with, Ah, what are they called? Desktop gadgets. You can turn those off it also that off as well, so that you have a completely clean screen to begin recording now when it comes to showing you using the Camp Tasia recorder. Unfortunately, the Camp Tasia recorder is rather persnickety when it comes to recording itself. So I'm going to show you the Camp Tasia recorder through a series of clever Power point simulations. Here it comes. You begin your recording of your camped Agius session by going to the camp Tasia Editor. This is the green icon, as opposed to the white icon. If you're looking at that way to distinguish the to the actual video editor throws up a whole screen like this that we're going to get into when we actually edit videos, which I guess isn't long since you're about to capture one. To begin capturing a video, you click on Record the screen in the upper left hand corner of the video editor, and what you're presented with is the Camp Tasia video recorder. Now it won't be quite as large is this, although there will be a dashed green line all the way around the screen that you could barely see. Okay, let's look at the components of the camp toe. Tasia, video editor and I think as you look at it, you're going to realize it's a lot simpler than it looks at 1st 1st of all, you have the menus up on top. I went over them. When I first started using Camp Tasia, I haven't used them since, never used them at all, not going to introduce them here. When it comes to selecting the area you would like to record. You have your choice between full screen and custom, which is something smaller than full screen. Why you would pick something smaller than full screen and I have no idea. So I suggest that you record in nothing but full screen rather than custom leave that option alone. Next. As we move to the right comes the Webcam. I haven't seen any you Demi presentations or lectures that use picture and picture webcams of the author. Actually speaking, they're all screen cast like what you're watching right now, so I never use the Web cam during recording. The one thing that I do set is an audio source. You'll notice that by default, the Camp Tasia recorder comes up with audio off. Go ahead and position your cursor to the options. Next. That, and click to see the menu. Here's a larger view of order you'll see on the menu. You'll have options of by default. Clicked will be. Do not record microphone you need to resolve that, too. Actually record the headset by clicking on headset microphone. Instead, my my headset microphone happens to be a logic text stereo. 86 50 e If you're looking to duplicate my environment, just below that is record system audio. I don't like recording system audio. It just produces another track encamped Asia editor that I've got to deal with. And it doesn't add anything. I never hear anything. It's supposed to be mouse clicks and keyboard clicks or whatever I set. Well, I don't like all that noise, so ayan click that. Don't worry, it's not a disaster. If you don't unclipped record system audio, you'll just have an additional bar in the in the camp Tasia video editor and you'll know what that means later. It's just some additional work, but it is very important that you click your audio source and get that set before you record. I don't know how many times that I've recorded brought up my recording in Camped Asia and seeing that it has no audio because I forgot to enable my audio headset. Okay, once you select these items and enable your audio audio source what you're going to see is the full camp Tasia recorder. Ah, bar. And that will include a little audio bar that shows you your audio as you're actually recording. That should fluctuate as you speak into your microphone. You're going to see that audio is on and you are now ready to record. All you've got to do is take your cursor and press on the big red record button. And first it tells you to press F 10 to stop recording at any time. Then it begins a countdown. 32 one and we are recording Congratulations. You just started your first recorder. Now, when you're ready to end, just press F 10 and we'll move on to the next lecture. But wait before you go, I wanted to talk with you about what happens after the F tennis struck. Imagine there's all kinds of magnificent stuff going on on the screen. This is the recording of your lecture. You have ah, vibrant voice describing exactly what's going on in the screen as you lead the user from point to point using your mouse. Now you're done with the recording and you ready toe kind of put this lecture to bed. What you do is you hit F 10 and what happens after that up, pops the recording screen camped. Asia will begin showing you what you just recorded. It would actually be playing in this window if we were actually doing this. Now notice your options for what to do in the lower right hand corner. With this recording, you have the option to save an edit, which I highly recommend directly produced. That means throw it out onto the Internet or YouTube. I highly do not recommend that you throw things out onto YouTube or the Internet without even looking at them or editing them. So that option is out. Forget the 2nd 1 and deleted if you know it's total garbage. If you actually terminated your session early cause you don't know what you're talking about, you delete the thing and move on. Now let's say that we pick save an edit. This is actually a decent recording that we would like to save is one of her lectures. You go ahead and click on save and edit, and up comes the standard windows. Pick your directory and pick your file name, type of save window now in the next lecture, we're going to talk about how to organize your stuff because you're gonna have a lot of stuff coming your way. You're gonna have power point slides. You're gonna have graphics. You're going tohave recordings from sessions. You're gonna have projects and you're going to have MP four produce productions that you're ready to upload to you, Demi in the next lecture, we're going to talk about how to organize all that. So it's nice and eaten clean. 2. Organizing Your Stuff: Hi. Welcome back in this lecture. I'd like to talk with you about an important subject that is organizing your stuff. Because when it comes to one thing, you Demi is the best at generating stuff. I mean, producing a you Demi course, you're gonna have images. You're gonna have recorded projects. You're gonna have t wreck files. You're gonna have this. That, um So what I'd like to propose is that you get your act together as faras organizing up front, and we get that out of the way. You know, I sometimes think that producing a you Demi course is little more than shoveling stuff. One place to another. So let's go ahead. And we'll look at how to make neat piles of all this stuff First. I want to talk to you about directory organization. Now, you Demi or not, you Demi. I'm sorry, but camp Tasia on my computer likes to save things in a directory called Documents Camped Asia's studio. If you're a PC user, you're gonna be familiar with this. Hopefully, if you're a Mac user, the installation of Camped Asia's studio or Camped Asia for Mac Rather tells you what the equivalent directory is on a Mac anyway, there's no better place to start putting your stuff than the default Camp Tasia directory. Whatever it might be on your system. Now, Within that directory, I'd like to create a separate directory named after the course that the directory is going to contain for information for frac for instance. The information for this course is going into a directory called You Demi Camped Asia Power Point, which happens to be the name of the of course with all of commas and Anne's removed. So organize your directories in this way. Now, what do you do with in the directory? I'd like to use Camelback naming for my files. Let me show you quickly how that works, and then you'll more understand when I show you my directory structure. The first rule of Camelback naming is capitalized. All but the first word that should say all but the first workers and the second rule is to remove all the spaces. So let me give you some examples. If I'm putting together a file name for an XY F file, which happens to be a gimp file for ah, the lecture called course overview, I would call it lower case course uppercase. Oh, verve you dot Exe cf Okay, in the beginning would become lower case in upper case t the upper case be beginning for a T wreck file. Organizing your stuff would follow the same naming convention. This is called Camelback Naming. And this is what I'd recommend for your file names. Now, the final rule in organizing your stuff is to give everything the same name. If I'm putting together a course overview and I have gimp files involved, I'm gonna call them using Camelback naming course overview dot xy f and course overview dot PNG thes air to common graphic file formats. If I have power point slides, I'm gonna call them course overview PPT X for Power point slides. Camp Tasia recordings would be named the same way. And you just keep following this naming convention for all the files that you put in there . And in this way, related files will be grouped together when you look at the directory contents. Finally, if you have more than one occurrence of a file, don't sweat it. Just give it a number. Like if I happen to have two recordings to produce a Camp Tasia project. I'll just put a two on the end of the name for the second T wreck file and I'm done. Now, What I'd like to show you is what this all looks like once we come down to some kind of a browser of our operating system. Here I am in my documents directory, and I have a Camp Tasia studio directory. I go in there and in here is a separate directory for each of the can or the U Demi courses that I've created. I've given them each a separate folder. If I go into any one of those folders like the folder for the course I'm currently recording, I'm going to see actual directories for some of the names because when you save and you Demi mp four files, it actually, by default will create a new directory. So they're just directories containing MP four files with the produced out. But along with alternates of P and G's T wreck files, ah, power point presentations, all named using Camelback naming so that they saw it together. When I look a directory listing of them, so begin to organize your directories early, using the points that I've given you and you'll be OK in the end when you have hundreds of courses 3. Capturing PowerPoint Presentations: Hello. And welcome back in this lecture, I'd like to talk with you about how to record power point presentations. Now, here you have two choices, and I think they whittled down to more or less the same. I can't really see a difference using the two methods. One is that can't. Atia actually has plug ins in power point. But come under the ad in section here. So you bring up Power point, which is what we've got on the screen right now, and you go over to the Adan's menu and click on it. You're going to see ah, Camp Tasia recording tools here so you can start recording. You can control the mic, all kinds of things that you can do in here. Now. I've always just treated Power Point like any other presentation and displayed it on the screen when I was capturing the screen. That's pretty much what this does. I can't see the difference. So let me show you how I do. My, um, power point captures here. I've got my presentation that I used to do. Ah, organizing your stuff. So the first thing that you need to do is that this has animations to it. The first screen has the course logo animation, and if you play it, it looks like this. Now we want this toe happen on a mouse click so that I can be in control of when these things happen. Now it just so happens that if you look at now, remember how to get these Goto animations and say animation pane, Click that to get this pain over on the right, where you can do play and you can see each animation and you can see how long it's going to take. And the most important thing is what's going to start it. This first animation starts on click. Every other animation on the page is starts with previous. That means that runs the same time as the previous animation, so they all run at the same time with a click of a mouse to start the whole thing. Let's go to the next page. This has some more animations for each of these things to come. Each of these lines of text to come onto the screen they float in. Now each one of these is on click because I want them to come up a lecture point at a time when I click the mouse, you get that. So the lecture slides were making every item on click with the course intro were making the first item on Click, and everything else is with previous so that it happens at the same time. Once again, another lecture slide. We want everything toe happen on click. So it's gonna display here, let me show you. It's going to display the header. Then it will display this and I don't just play that, and I use a mouse click to decide when this happens. That means that I can talk leisurely and I can make the points come up when I make the point in talking. So we begin the Power point capture. It's actually already running now, so I can't start it again. So pretend like we started up the Camp Tasia recorder. Now all you do is you take a much times you'd like to go to slideshow and either begin from the current slider from the beginning, depending on if you're adding to an existing recording or this is a brand new recording. Typically, it's from the beginning, and what you get is a blank screen. Now I can take a long as I want. Don't worry about where your mouse is, because you could turn the mouse off in the camp. Tasia editor Once you get done recording, If I hit the foreword Arrow Key, then the first mouse click event occurs. Or if I click the mouse, I have a choice on either. Now I hit the forward key again when I'm ready to next slide. So let's say I'm saying Okay, we're gonna talk in this about organizing years stuff, and here we're going to begin with directory organization. Now, the first thing you need to consider is where to store your vials and ended at that. So you talk slowly, and whenever you're ready for the next talking point to come up, you just hit the forward arrow key. When you're at the end of of a slide, the Ford Arrow key will bring into the next slides. You need to be quick and double hit first for the slide, then for the title to come up. And then here comes the first slide item. Notice how these come up nicely grouped, and this that has sub examples to it. all the examples all come up at once. Isn't that nice? When you're done, go ahead and hit. F tend to stop recording, which is what I'm about to do right now. And then I'll show you this that we just captured in the camp. Tasia, Video Editor. Hi, Here I am in the camp Tasia, Video editor. Just as I said I'd be We just got done recording our power point presentation and you can see it up here in the demonstration window. Now, the problem is is that we have actually a captured the power point screen before the presentation started. So what you do is here's your play point Over here. This is your timeline down at the bottom, which defines where you what? You were looking at it as faras the time in the video. You can drag the play head along and watch the entire play of this video in the upper right hand corner. It's gonna go very quickly. Now, when we're actually ready to do the video, we place our head where it starts or play head. There we go. And we dragged the little green part of it all the way back to the beginning to make a selection. Then just click on the scissors and it's gone now when we play, which that was the playback of the video. Now we want to maybe chop off the end of the video. Here it is going all the way down through. Let's say the video is just fine. But one thing that we do have is we have our cursor jumping around on the screen. You don't exactly like that during presentations. So go here, tome or down. Here are your most common, uh, modifications that you make in camp. Tasia Cursor effects is one of them, and we will click cursor visible mouse cursor visible so that it is no longer visible. Now we've recorded a Power Point presentation that looks something like this. There you go, no cursor jumping around the screen, and the power point slides will come up one at a time. We can actually make this run faster by dragging the play point and seeing what it's gonna look like. When we're done, we go ahead and save the project and export. It is an MP four
