About This Class

The whole of the German language can be broken down into several different structures. If you take any sentence from any German book or any utterance, you will see that it fits into one of these structures.
I remember one weekend, I was writing some lessons for the week ahead, when I suddenly realised this. I noticed that there are a certain number of structures in German, and that every sentence follows one of these structures. I spent the rest of the weekend working out all the structures, and I wrote them all down.
Every structure you learn gives you the ability to say a huge amount. Some structures are used more than others, but all the structures together make up the whole German language. Once you’ve learnt how a structure works, all you have to do is insert different words into the slots and you have a sentence.
This course introduces you to structure 1. I’ve limited each course to one structure so as not to overburden you. By looking at just one structure at a time, you can really get to grips with it and understand its usage. It will help to clarify the German language and make it more like a reflex rather than something you have to think about as is it were a maths equation.
Each structure can also help to propel you to fluency; if you can manipulate the structures at high speed, you can start to say anything you want without having to thing about how to say it.
This course contains plenty of practice opportunities for you to revise what you’ve learnt and it also contains some hints and tips on how best to learn and memorise the structures and the vocabulary that goes with them. You’ll learn how to make questions out of structure 1, how to make statements and how to turn positive statements negative.
The Building Structures in German series is set out using the same learning techniques as the 3 Minute German courses. You can work through the course in three minute chunks, enabling anybody to learn German, no matter how little time you have.

1. German Structure 1 Introduction: hello on to be common. Hello and welcome to building structures in German structure one. I'm Karen Andi. I'm a language tutor based in the UK On I wrote this course to happen to speak German. The whole of the German language is made up of a number of structures. I remember one weekend I was writing some lessons for the week ahead. When I suddenly realized this, I noticed that there are a certain number of structures in German and that every sentence follows one of these structures. I spent the rest of the weekend working out all the structures and I wrote them all down. Once you know what all the structures are, you convict begin to learn them. Every structure you learn gives you the ability to say a huge amount. Some structures are used more than other structures, but all the structures as a whole make up the whole German language. Once you've learned all the structures or you have to do is insert different words into the slots on. Do you have a sentence? These structures also helped to propel you to fluency. If you can manipulate the structures at high speed, you can start to say anything you want without having to think about how to say it. As I said, each structure enables you to say a huge amount. So I've limited each course to one structure so as not to overburden you by looking at just one of structure at a time. You can really get to grips with it and understand its usage. It will help to clarify the German language and make it more like a reflex rather than something you have to think everything through like it's a math equation. Before you start this course, let me share with you an extremely handy learning tip that helped me to progress quickly and effectively in language learning. When most people start studying for anything, they tend to spend the first day or two studying for hours and hours and get through loads of work. However, very quickly this begins to dwindle. You might feel like spending hours studying German, which is great, but you want that feeling of motivation to continue and it won't continue if you actually spend hours studying. Limit your story time to chunks of just three minutes. No more if you limit your studying to three minute chunks. There are three things that will happen. You'll maintain enthusiasm. If you want to learn anything, you have to maintain enthusiasm or else you won't continue. If you limit your story time to just three minutes, you'll keep gem and fresh and exciting. Andi. You'll be eager to learn. If you spent hours studying very quickly, you'll get bored with German, and it will turn into a chore. You will study more consistently. It's much better to study for just three minutes once a day than to study for three hours once a week. A spare three minutes is relatively easy to find, even in the most hectic of schedules. If you make sure you complete at least 13 minutes to recession every day, it will quickly become a habit that you'll do without thinking. It's much easier to fit a daily three minute habit than a weekly one hour. Have it into your life. By doing this, you'll become a much more consistent later on DCA. Consistency is the key to success. Thirdly, you'll achieve more effective memorization. This is my favorite reason as to why you should limit your study to just three minute chunks If you study something for three minutes every day, you will trick your brain into memorizing the information more quickly than if it were to see the information for hours each day. It will think I see this information every day, so it must be important, but I don't see it for very long, so I better hold on to it and make inter memory fast. You'll be amazed at how much more easily things tend to stay in your brain if you limit yourself to just three minutes a day, so three minutes is the key. Set a timer and want you reach three minutes to stop. Then give yourself at least half an hour before you do another three minutes. You should aim to do at least 13 minute junk every day, any more than that is a bonus. But one is fine. Just work through the course and completely exercise it. That's all, and you'll be amazed at how much you plan Duncan 2. German Structure 1 Chapter 1a: structure. One, the whole of the German language is made up off different structures of words. If you know the words and you know which order to put them in, you can speak the language. Let's learn the first structure. Structure. One consists off just three parts, and here is an example of it in years vast volunteer Essen, Vast warranty s. And it means what do you want to eat? Vaz Warren's E s in. Let's break this structure down into its three components and give each component a name vests, volunteer s and so vast Means what? Andi? It is a question word vests Volunteer. He means, Do you want volunteer E? And this is called an infinitive carrier. It's not actually called an infinitive carrier. That's what I call it, and you'll see why soon. It's really name in. A grammar book is a motile verb, but an infinitive carrier fits with these structures. So volunteers e we shall call an infinitive carrier and then s and Essen means to eat. Andi, this is an infinitive. Now you might be wondering what an infinitive carrier or an infinitive actually is, but we should look at these shortly So those are the three components A question word. An infinitive carrier. Andi An infinitive. So let's look at what an infinitive is. An infinitive is just a VEB. Abed is a word you comport to in front of for example, to eat, to drink, to speak, to smoke, to go, to be to here, to arrive, to leave something and finish it. An infinitive carrier is any word. You comport an infinitive on the end off So a word that carries the infinitive in English. We have things like I would like Do you want and I'm going. This is because you can put infinitives on the end of these. For example, I would like to eat. I would like to drink. I would like to go Or do you want to leave? Do you want to call? Do you want to eat? Or I'm going to arrive. I'm going to go. I'm going to dance So I would like do you want and I'm going over examples off infinitive carriers which are phrases that can carry an infinitive. Onda an infinitive was just a verb. We can change any of the three parts in this structure. For example, instead of saying Vaz at the start, which means what we could change it to rule, meaning where so instead of vast born Z s in, Which means, what do you want to eat? The question would become vote violence the essence, Which means, Where do you want to eat? Or we could change it to Van, which means when so Van Warranty Essen means when do you want to eat so we can change the question word? And did you notice how the rest of the structure it stayed the same? That volunteer essence part didn't motor at all. Just because you changed the question would at the start. So that's three question Where's we could use at the start off structure one vote meaning where vests? Meaning what and van meaning when. Let's add a few more infinitives. Andi infinitive carriers. So we can really start to manipulate this structure 3. German Structure 1 Chapter 2a: using structure one. Here is a list off a few question words. A few infinitive carriers on quite a few infinitives. What we're going to do is use this list of words to get used to structure one by making up some questions. So Harrison question was, We've already had vole meaning where and vast meaning what? Well, this next one whom v feel your in V 30 year means at what time? Whom at V field literally means how much here means oclock at how much oclock at what time ? Envy. Fear. Van we've already had means when, and V means how v. So there are five question words. Now let's add some infinitive carriers. Can you can e means Can I can e Can I So the ch in e It's quite soft sounding. Can e volunteer E. We already had What do you want? Volunteers e and vowed in Z means Are you going? Valence e read it means will you vowed in the And now let's add some infinitives S and Essen means to eat s and I think in I think in means to drink tink in Bush Stellan best Ellen means toe order Bush Stellan. Poor beyond poor be oven means to try poor be on. We get the word probe from this very poor beyond. Because if you imagine proving something, then you're trying. It'll testing at poor beyond means to try but silent but silent means to pay. But Sahlin, the zed in German sounds like a T on an esport together. But silent means to pay Mushkin Mushkin means to do or to make it could mean both things that muck in to do or to make meeting means to hire meeting father father means to go Fallon name and means to take name, and Harbin means tohave Harbin and end down. End down means to change. The A hasn't what's going onl out, which is two dots on top of it, and this makes the A sound like an air en down to change. 4. German Structure 1 Chapter 2b: The reason why I have put the tube in brackets on all of these infinitives is because sometimes in English we say to But other times we miss it off. For example, what do you want to do? Whether we have the two in that sentence, what do you want to do? But then what can I do while the two disappears in that sentence? So what do you want to do on what can I do? We have do and to do rise in German, they would both be just makin so. What we can do with this fare structure is start to build up questions using the three parts a question word. An infinitive carrier. Andan infinitive. So how would you say in German? Where can I pay? Vote can eq. But Salin Volcanic but sodden. What can I eat? Vaz can in essence. Rask Antique Essen, Where do you want to eat? Vote. Vote is es in Vogel is the essence. What do you want to drink? Vast volunteer tank in vast volunteer drinking. What? You're going to order? Thus batons debates Chelan vast, verdant zebra. Stellan So the s and the T sound to get the sound like a ship. Bush Stellan means to order so vast bad NZ based on what you're going to order. Really? VAT in Z that means will you so literally in German, you're saying, What will you order of us? Vanzi Bush Stellan By building questions using structure one. You'll not only get yourself more familiarized with the vocabulary and the structure, but you're also without even trying, reduced the time it takes you to string a sentence together in German. The more you practice, the quick you'll get. So let's do a few more. What are you going to do? Vaz Verdi. Machen. Vast Vanzi Mackin Literally. It means What will you do best? Vanzi Muffin. How do you want to pay V warranty but silent Viva Lindsay, but silent. What can I try? Vaz can seek Formula One. Vascular palm, Biafran. Now, so far, I've said that the first structure is made up off three parts. However, there is 1/4 part, which I'll call extra information on we look at this in the next lesson. 5. German Structure 1 Chapter 3a: extra information. The fourth part of structure one is simply extra information such as noun adjectives or time words in English. We can add the extra information onto the end of the question. But in German you have to put the extra information just in front of the infinitive. For example, Vast. Born in the Essen means what do you want to eat? Vast. Born in Essen. But vast volunteer e muito are Bint Essen means what you want to eat tonight who are binned means tonight We literally it means today. Evening goiter, Armand. But you put it just in front. Off the infinitive on the end. So vast volumes E twitter Armand s And what do you want to eat tonight or vulva? Lindsey Morgan s in roll Volunteer Morgan s means. Where do you want to eat tomorrow? So Morgan means tomorrow And it goes just in front Off s And the infinitive on the end. Vast volunteer Yyets Tamarkin vast volunteer yyets Tamarkin means what do you want to do now? So yet means now in German. The letter J in German is pronounced light in English. Why yet massively is yes Tamarkin, What you want to do now We've had a few question words a few infinitive carriers on quite a few infinitives. So here is some extra information words that you can add Morgan Morgan means tomorrow, Morgan Rita Oita means today quitter. We toe Armand whereto Armand means tonight literally. It means today evening and the D on the end of our bent is pronounced almost like a t oId to our bend. And because a D in German went in the end off a word is pronounced almost like a t yet yet means now Yet imagine saying yet and then Estonian. Yet she beta beta means later skater enough Bellen nuff Belden means two billion nuff actually means towards enough so it means towards 1,000,000,000 or two billion in Bellion where this means en Velin in Bellion. So we had enough. Bellion is two billion on in Bellion is in Berlin. It's the same with countries like Nuff Deutschland Nach Deutschland means to Germany or towards Germany noth bushland, whereas in Deutschland means in Germany in Deutschland 6. German Structure 1 Chapter 3b: in a restaurant in a festive hunt means at the restaurant or to the restaurant in a restaurant. Ins is a contraction of two words in which means in and dust means the Indust of Esther Hunt means at the restaurant or literally in the restaurant. But the in on the dust joined forces Andi become intense. That's Hensh in. Thus Hensh in means the chicken that's pension Diffa, kata difaa kata means the ticket de far kata Fear Powell. Fair power means for Paul Fail power and here in German means here, here. So now you're armed with some extra information words. You can make your questions a little more adventurous to learn all of these words. What you could do is use a little tool that I like to use. Cue cards. If you get a cue card down the center of one side, you can write any English words that you'd like to learn in German and so you can put all the extra information words. For example, you might need two or three cards for all of these words, But in a column down the center, put tomorrow today, tonight, now, later, etcetera, then turn the card over and write the German words on the other side. Morgan Goiter with Arvind yet Shater etcetera. What you should do to learn these words is look at your cue cards every day for a couple of minutes and go through the English words and trying to remember what the German wears were . So you'll see on the English side tomorrow. And you should try and remember what Morgan was. So how do you say in German? What are you going to do now? Vast veterans yet smack in Vaz Vanzi, its mark in What are you going to do for Paul? Vast Vanzi feel power back in Vaz Varinsky filled power market. Or what time do you want to eat? Later, in English we put the extra information words on the end. So later in English goes in the end in German. Don't forget it goes in front of the web. So what time do you want to eat later from vehicle heir Boran Dish Beta s in victory. Herbal Lindsay Shater Essam 7. German Structure 1 Chapter 4a: manipulating structure One you can manipulate structure one in many different ways. For example, you can take certain bits out to make different types of questions. You don't always have to stick all three parts together. Let's see what happens when you don't put the question Word on. How would you say in German? Do you want to eat Warranty? Essen Volunteer Essen. And so you just say one of the s and do you want to eat? You haven't got to put a question word at the start. So you only have the infinitive carrier on the infinitive. Warren C s and or how would you say, Do you want to eat here? Volunteer Here s in volunteer. Here s a So even if you take the question word off, the extra information still goes in front of the infinitive. On the end off the question, Von easy here. Are you going to pay, Vanzi? But Solon Vanzi. But Solon. Well, how would you say? Do you want to pay the bill now? Volunteer E. D. Hackman, yet? Spertzel Warren Zd Ackman yet spits Allen. Now let's see what happens if you don't put an infinitive on the end How would you say in German? What do you want? Vast born NZ vasavada urgency now earlier when I said that an infinitive just means a verb . However, it's specifically the whole verb, which in English has the word touring from two bit but not always in German. Infinitives will always end in the letter end. So far we've had Essen thinking best, Ellen por Be Evan Bit Silent Muffin meeting name and Harbin and End Dan. So, other than end down on the end, all of these verbs ending letters E n in German. 8. German Structure 1 Chapter 4b: And remember, an infinitive carrier is basically a word or expression that can carry an infinitive. So it's followed by an infinitive on. I've only given you a few German infinitive carriers so far we had can e meaning. Can I vat NZ? Meaning are you going or will you volunteer e. Which means do you want? Well, you can put any infinitive on the end of these inventive carriers to make your question infrastructure one. So, are you going to eat? Are you going to drink? Are you going to pay? Are you going to go? Are you going to try? Well, there are a few more inventive carriers that your meat in later lessons in this course on their make life much easier for you. Now a question word doesn't really need much off. An explanation is easier just to see what they are. So far, we've only looked at five question words, but there's only a small number of question was altogether anyway. So what we'll do is learn the more now. So we've already had a vote meaning way, Beth, Which means what when Visa here at what time van? Meaning When? And V, which means how well we've also got Velicka America, meaning which or which one Velicka vow whom volume means why volume we feel we feel in German means how much let a V in German is pronounced like an F in English V field v Fieler means how many v. Fieler so I feel is much v feel. How much and feeler if you put an E on the end of field means many feeler v feel. How many v. Langer in German means How long? V longer and then vein vain means whom vein. So let's practice those. How do you say in German? What do you want to do? Vast policy. Marken Vaz Warranty Mackin How do you want to pay the bill v. One z Direct number, but Salan Veba, Lindsay Diokno but salan 9. German Structure 1 Chapter 4c: Which one do you want? Very equivalency. Welcome. Ah, Lindsay, why did you want to hire a car value? Mbola Easy. An outer mitten volume volunteer e an outer mitten. So I'm out or is a car and it goes in front off the the meeting Va home warranty. Why do you want I an outer mitten? A car tow higher volume warranty. An outer mitten. How much do you want to eat? We feel Warren's es and we feel violence es. And where can I hire car? Volcanic? An outer mitten. Voke Andy can out or meeting when you want to eat. Van Jones es van violence es What time can I go in V failure? Can each father v fill your comic fun? What you want to eat? Vast Ponzi s vast volunteer Essen. What you want to drink? Vast bone, lazy thinking, vast volunteer drinking. What do you want to order? Vaz Warren's Ebert Stanton vasavada Lindsay Bush Stellan What? You want to try Vaz Violence Depot be oven Basketball is a problem. What you want to do? Vast bowling team Akin. Vast born is a muffin. What? You want to make vast policy Mackin again? So mackin camion do or make Vaz warranty muffin 10. German Structure 1 Chapter 4d: what you want to take. Vast born NZ name and impassable. Easy name and what you want tohave basketball is a Harbin vests warranty. Harbin. What do you want to change? Fastball in the end. Down vest. Valencienne down. Where do you want to eat? Vogel In the s. And so violence es. Where do you want to drink? Vogel? Is the tankan vote born? Is he thinking when you want to eat? Van Bullies es and van Volunteer s. And when you want to drink, Van Balinese thinking Van war. Is it Lincoln? When you want to order Van Jones, eBay. Stellan Van Valen. ZB. Stellan, how do you want to pay? Viva Lindsay, but silent v volunteer. But salan. Why do you want to eat here, Val? Home warranty? Yes. Volume One is here. Why did you want to take the car? Volume wanted us out on Ayman. Volume volunteer us out or name? And what time do you want to eat in V? Feel terrible in the essence. M v feel terrible in the essence. Which one do you want to try? Velicka Volunteer Puppy Ellen. How much pizza do you want to eat? We feel a pizza warranty s. We feel a pizza. Policy Essen. Here we have the fielder. Which eyes? That means how many. But in front of the word pizza, you have to say we feel a pizza instead of v feel pizza. That's because the word pizza in German is feminine. And so the word Fieler is the feminine version off field as well as the plural. And so we feel a pizza means how much pizza usvi Fieler to mean? How many or how much? When you're talking about a feminine noun v feeler pizza? Bonnie's es in How much pizza do you want to eat? How much wine do you want to drink? We fear Vine volunteered thinking we feel vine volunteer drunken. What are you going to eat? Vast, barren TSN vast Abedin's es. And what you going to drink? Vast. Very easy to think in. How much wine can I drink? V fear vine Can IQ thinking v fear vine Connect. Thinking 15. German Structure 1 Chapter 5a: more words. Seeing as we've now learned all the question words, we may as well learn a few more inventive carriers and infinitives. Then we can start making up questions for structure want to our heart's content. So let's just have a quick recap off all the question words we had of all meaning where vast meaning what v feel Meaning at what time Van? Which means when v meaning how very for which means which Valium. Meaning why we feel. Which means how much v Fieler, How many v. Langer, Which means how long and vain meaning who. So let's let a few more infinitive carries we've already had in German candy can e. Which means can I can e well, if we change, it's likely we get Kernan Z. Kernan Z means can you Kernan Z Violence E We already had was Do you want a warranty? And Val Z was, Are you going literally? Vaginal Easy means, will you? Well, let's add two more infinitive carriers. Most e most literally. It means most I most e Oregon also mean Do I have to say most e most I or do I have to most e And if we change it slightly, We get Mussen sie mussen sie means most you or do you have to mussen sie so that you have six infinitive carriers. Now let's add a few more infinitives to the list that we already have. So we've already had s and meanings eat, I think in meaning to drink best Ellen which means to order por beyond meaning to try but silent which means to pay Muhsin meaning to do or to make meeting means to hire Fallon means to go name and is to take ha been is to have and n dam was to change So we've seen those infinitives already. Now let's add a few more Kalfin Kalfin means to buy Kalfin and Franken and funding means to start on Yangon design design means to be design 16. German Structure 1 Chapter 5b: our skin, our skin. This means to go out literally, where you can use it to mean to leave house gain literally. House means out, and gain is to go under the way to say Go. We already had Father, which was to go just a quick note. The difference between far in which means to go and again, which means to go, is quite simple. Gain is to go when you're going somewhere on foot. So if you're walking somewhere, you would say again, if you're driving or taking any mode of transport, you'll Seyfarth and so far and is to go more like to travel, I suppose. But if you're going anywhere other than unfortunate, say Father. But how skin is to go out or to leave? Really, it's used when you're leaving a house like on foot out skin. Bullingdon Barington means to bring banging house. Gave in. I was giving this means to spend money literally. House given means to give out that to give out money given means to give on house is out there. House caving literally, is to give out or to spend money from Bullingdon, FIBA, Lincoln. This means to spend time so house gave in was to spend money for Bullingdon is to spend. Time is a in Zeon means to see Zam and how often and often means to call an orphan belie been means to stay in Germany. Bligh been finned in means to find finned in and Z argon. This means to say or to tell his argon that's practice. Those new words. How do you say in German? When do you want to leave? Van Hollen? Zl skin van bone is the outer skin. Whom are you going to see? Vain. Van Zan Vain Renzi's Ian. What can I bring? Vast. Canny Clingan Vast Ganic Clingan, where are you going to stay tonight? So this one has got extra information? Said the word for tonight I would have to go in front of the verb to stay. So where you going to state in, like literally. Where are you going tonight to stay Volver agency with Arvind Blind men vote veterans The wood are burned alive. In whom can I call vain mechanic Unknown often vain can IQ unknown often so, to learn all these new infinitives and infinitive carriers again, you can use a cue card if you write all the English words in a column down the center off one side off the cue card and then turn it over and write the German words on the other side. Then when you're practicing, only look at the English side and see if you remember how to say the German word. 17. German Structure 1 Chapter 6a: as a non question. So far, we've only looked at struck to one in a question form it. However, you could also use it in a non question format. Let's start this chapter with a quick recap off the structure in its question form. So we've already seen that structure. One in the question format consists of just three parts Vaz Warren's E s in which was a question word, an inventive carrier and an infinitive on. Remember, we said you can also add an optional fourth part, the extra information so you could save ass volunteer who are bent s. And so the extra information has to go in front off the verb. So what do you want tonight to eat his height? You like to say this in German? Well, to use this structure when you're not asking a question is quite simple. You just take the question word off and flip the infinitive carrier around. You'll have probably noticed that the infinitive carriers are made up of two parts. When you simply flip them around to make them into a non question, let me show you what I mean. That's compared a question and a nun question in the structure. One format. So of us can e s and vast can eke Essen. I mean, what can I eat? Vast, canny Essen where we take the vast away and then flip the can eke around Then we get he can so he can Essence, for example, Means I can eat where we can add extra information to that reaches a pecan spate Essen. I can eat later So the infinitive carrier can e means can I? And if you flip it around, you get can, Which means I can so he can s and I can eat He can powers in. I can see pool he can. Morgan found I can go tomorrow. Let's look at two lists. The first list has the infinitive carriers ask questions. And then the second list has the infinitive carriers as non questions. So we've had can e which means can I I couldn't see. Can you violins e Do you want Vanzi? Are you going most a. Do I have to almost die? And moose Lindsay, do you have to almost you where we conflict these around? So can he becomes He can e can means I can. He can currency becomes Z Kernan Z Canon means you can see Canon volunteer e flips round to become Z Vardan Zevulun means you want ze volen vanden z, which means are you going flips round to become Zeev Adan which means you are going zivadin can also mean you will It doesn't really mean you're going in the sense of moving somewhere . It means you're going when it's expressing the future tense because we can put anything on the end of the vet Any verb on say you're going to eat or you're going to drink. Zivadin Essence Zivadin drinking So it's that sort of your going Not as in your literally moving somewhere, but you're going talking about the future tense. So in that sense, it could mean you're going or you will Zeev Adan. Then Moussi flips around to become Morse e most, which means I must or I have to and Mussen sie flips around to become Z mussen, which means you must or you have to z mussen 18. German Structure 1 Chapter 6b: let me give you a couple of extra infinitive carriers in the non question form that you can use it. Vin Ville means I want a ville. The W in German Sounds like a vi vill I want and each Vanda ik banda. Well, this is the same verb as when we had Zeev Adam and Steve Madden was You're going, Echeverria is I'm going to or I will So this week a bad a you can use to talk about the future of bad I will What? I'm going. So how do you say in German you can buy something here for pool And still when you have extra information the extra information So v in this sentence we've got you can is the infinitive carrier And by is the infinitive. Everything else is extra information. So something here for Paul is all extra information. Well, that has to go in front of the infinitives that the infinitive bye in German goes in the very end. So in German, you wouldn't say you can buy something here for pool. You would say you can something here for Paul by Z cannon atmosphere for power coffin is the current atmosphere for power. Kalfin, You can buy it later. Z Kernan s spate A coffin is the colonel s Beta Kalfin. I can see it. The first German structure in a non question form Z Kernan here s and you can eat here. So you've got an infinitive carrier. That extra information goes in the middle and then the infinitive goes on. The end is he couldn Here s and 23. German Structure 1 Chapter 7a: Let's do a quick recap of all the question words All the infinitive carriers in both the question and non question format. All the infinitives on all the extra information that we've learned in this course. How do you say in German? Where of all walked vests? At what time? In v feel when Van How v which or which one baker? Why volume? How much we feel. How many Wulfila, How long, Villalonga, whom vain can I can e Can you currency? Do you want volunteer? German Structure 1 Chapter 7b: to spend money House came in to spend time Fibber Lincoln To see Zan to call and wholphin to stay live in to find finned in to say or to tell Zaken Tomorrow, Morgan Today Goiter Tonight we're toe Arvind. No yet later Beta two billion knock bellen in Berlin in Bellion two Gemini Nothing. Deutschland in Germany, in Deutschland, at the restaurant or to the restaurant in Vester Hunt the chicken that's Henschel a ticket . And if I carta for pool £5 And here here. So how would you say in gym and what are you going to bring? Vasavada? Zeroing in vast Vanzi Blinken. What can you eat? Vasko in Essen Vasant Kuni Zs in you got to spend too much money is evidence to feel guilt House Kevin Zivadin So feel Get out Escaping. What can you see? Baskin and easy in Vast Cornyn's Easy in. When can I go out? Van Can a cow skin van can a cow skin? I can bring some wine for Helen tomorrow You can Morgan advice Find for heaven playing in it. Can Morgan at us vine for Helen bringing 25. German Structure 1 Chapter 7c: now. Usually, if you have extra information in German, if you got more than one thing. So in the center we've got I can bring some wine for Helen tomorrow. So we've got three bits of extra information, some wine for heaven. And tomorrow and usually if you have a time phrase. So tomorrow tells you when it's gonna happen. So if you have a time phrase or if you have some sort of phrase that tells your Winston is gonna happen, then that will go first in the extra information section. So, in German, you say the tomorrow part first can Morgan and then something for Helen Can Morgan, its first Muslim. Sorry. Some wine. Fallon can Morgan Adverse vine for Helen. Bringing after Aiken tomorrow Some wine for handed and bring How would you say? Can I eat at the hotel tonight? Can I quit our band in hotel s candy? What happened in the hotel? Can you call Maria at quarter past four? Corn is the on fetal lack fear. Maria Unho often currency on theatre in Aafia Maria on orphan. So here in this instance, we've got a time phrase at quarter past four and so that goes in front off Maria. So Maria Andi at quarter past four are both extra information. So you put the time first, can you At quarter past four core Maria currency on fearful Mafia Maria Ho often. And so Unho, open The invented goes in the end still How would you say? Can I pay the bill? Can each theory economic But silent can eat the technical but silent Where can I find it vocally? His friend in volcanic has Swindon! What time do you want to start in Visalia? Is the colonel s better coffin is the current Esh Beta Kalfin. Can I go out later? Can a spate of how skin can ish beta house can 26. German Structure 1 Chapter 7d: I want to go out later. Ecovillage, Beta out Skin a British beta. Our scan. Do you want to see it? Violencia Xeon Violence es Xeon. Do you want to try it? Volleys E s public Volunteer es pope Even which one do you want to hire? Very good policy meeting. Very modern zem eaten. Who do you want to see in Berlin? Van Volunteer in buildings in vain, volunteer and embedding thing. Whom do you have to see in Germany? Vain Mussen sie in Deutschland Zan vain Mussen sie in Deutschland Zan Who are you going to see in Berlin? Vain veterans Ian Bell dings in vain Renzi and Belling Zan says the fare structure And if you look at this on the screen now I've put an outline containing all the question words All the infinitive carriers, the infinitives on the extra information. You can download a pdf version off this structure after this lesson. But if you just look at the structure now on the screen, what you can do is use this to help to build your speed in new things. Structure one. For example, Try and make his many sentences. You can using this structure just using the outline. So, for example, vole can Nick Morgan s. And where can I eat tomorrow and then say that one sentence out loud to yourself. Warkentin Morgan s in volcanic Morgan s in volcanic morgan s and again and again to help your tongue to get around the words. And then whilst you're saying it yourself, see if you can without stopping change one part of it. And so instead of saying, where can I eat tomorrow? You would say, What can I eat tomorrow? So start with where can I eat tomorrow? Volcanic Morgan s and volcanic Morgan s and volcanic Morgan s in vast Connick Morgan s and then change the vault of ass. But whilst you're speaking, and that helps you to change things in your brain without thinking and it happened to reach fluency more quickly. And so war Candy Morgan s and vast Connick Morgan s and vast candy coitus, and that's can equate to drink in. But vast cannot yet drinking and changed one bit of time. Andi, it has to get more familiar with the extractor. As you're saying the sentence, trying to think about what it is that you're saying in English to start to add meaning to the structure, along with the German 27. German Structure 1 Chapter 8a: turning it all negative. There's one more usual thing that you can do to this structure quite easily, and that's make it negative. You can change the infinitive carriers from positive to negative. For example, in English. Why are you going to Berlin with negative that becomes Why aren't you going to go in? Can I go with you? Why can't I go with you? When can you do it? When can't you do it in English? It's simply a matter of putting a little n apostrophe t after the verb. Well, it's almost a simple it in German too. Or you have to do to turn the infinitive carriers negative is port and neat at the end of it. Nique means not in German, for example, Valid in Z means are you going or will you varinsky nicked means Aren't you going or won't you? You can do this with any off the inventive carriers in the question form, for example can be neat means cont I currency meat. Can't you volunteer meat? Don't you want Valentin eat? Aren't you going or won't you most a neat don't. I have to. Merson's you need. Don't you have to? If you have any extra information in a question, then Usually the next comes after that, too. However, you should always make sure it comes before the infinitive on never after it. So how would you say in German? Why can't I go with you? Volume cannot commit in a Nick Fartman volume can admit in and Nick Father. So the candy it means Can't I saw? It means can I And you put a nick on the end? It means, can't I? But we have extra information with you. So can eq while the with U goes first can e mitt in in then neat father volume can t commit in a Nick Fallon If you put the nicked after the county and it would still make sense to so vow home can take nicht mit involved in. So you could say both Ray and German. Usually the next comes after the extra information. But if you don't do that and put it after the infinitive carrier, it doesn't really mean matter that much. What can't you bring? Vast, uneasy Next. Clingan Vast Kernis in explaining Aren't you going to buy something for Paul Vance? The atmosphere power Next, Kalfin Veterans, the atmosphere power Next coffin 28. German Structure 1 Chapter 8b: whom can't I call vain can meet Unho often vain. Can it nicked Unho often? Why can't you do it later? Va home. Cooney's es next Beta max volume currency s next debate A muffin. You can also turn the non question infinitive carriers negative again. All we have to do is place the word neat at the end of the infinitive carrier. And if there is any extra information, you can put the next after that to for example, Vanda means I'm going or I will. It's a very unique I'm not going or I will not. You can do this with any of the infinitive carriers in the known question form, for example, you can eat it can. It means I can't z can and meet You can't is evil. A neat you don't want is Eve. Add a neat You're not going or you will not. It must meet. I must not is immersing me. You must not a very neat I don't want very neat. I'm not going well. I will not. So how would you say in German? I can't do it today. Can is Hoyt Aneke Macken. It can s whiter. Nick Macken, You can't eat the chocolate. The current issue Kalata nicht Essen Is it Kernen de Chocola Nicked s. I must not spend too much money. It most nicked. So fear Guilt House Kevin It most sneaked to fear guilt else House Kevin, you must not call Pool is he? Mustn't power next. Unho often is the most in power. Nicked Unho Often I don't want to eat here. It will hear Mixed Essen. It will here Nicked Essen. I'm not going to hire it. I'm going to buy it it. Nevada as next meeting Echeverria's Kalfin. If there is next meeting, Havana is confident so that you have the structure one in the negative. Just put nikh after the infinitive carrier. Or if there's any extra information, you can put it out of that too. Thank you. 29.
