About This Class

Overview

Join vlogger Brad as he shares his personal experience trekking one of the most physically challenging jungle treks, the 96-km Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea.

Trekkers are usually confronted with leeches, wild boars, heavy rain, dozens of river crossings, malaria, and dengue fever.

On this 8-day trek, you will see Brad experience everything from gastro, severe chafing, and even collapsing on the trail.

During the trek, Brad was pushed beyond his physical limits where he had collapsed on the trail, unable to feel his legs and feet. He also suffered gastro and severe chafing.

The days are hot and humid, with the nights being freezing cold.

Day 1 of 8: Ower's Corner to Ioribaiwa Village

Brad begins a 3 hour drive from his accommodation in Port Moresby to the beginning of the track with his guide and food porter. On the first day, Brad and his team had made over 20 river crossings with undulating muddy terrain. There was torrential rainfall on the track and throughout the evening at the camp site.

Day 2 of 8: Ioribaiwa Village to Naoro Village

After a long day of hiking on day 1, Brad is feeling the pain in his shoulders. They set off for a full day of climbing and descending through muddy terrain, grass fields, and push through Brad's onset of chafing. Brad's air mattress also blew out which meant having to sleep on the hard ground.

Day 3 of 8: Naoro Village to Brigade Hill

This day was one of the most challenging days for Brad. The day began with severely muddy conditions and mosquitoes, followed by the amazing river and creek crossings. Later that day, Brad would be pushed to his limit during the steep climb to Brigade Hill. During the climb, he had collapsed from exhaustion and not able to feel his legs and feet.

Day 4 of 8: Brigade Hill to Efogi Village

Due to Brad being physically exhausted and with severe gastro, him and his team spent the morning at Brigade Hill. The site of one of the bloodiest battles between Australian and Japanese soldiers during the war. It was a short trek to Efogi village where they stayed the night, sleeping on his first mattress since the trek commenced.

Day 5 of 8: Efogi Village to Camp 1900

Brad and his team set off for another big day of climbing and descending the harsh terrain along the Kokoda trail. After arriving into Camp 1900, Brad decided to jump into the frigid waters of a nearby creek.

Day 6 of 8: Camp 1900 to Eora Creek Village

At 7:15, Brad and his team depart for Eora Creek Village which is about an 8 hour adventure through the Kokoda jungle. They will cross some spectacular bridges and see some incredible nature along the way.

Day 7 of 8: Eora Creek Village to Isarava Village

They set off for Isarava Village with a short detour to check out the Japanese war memorial. The area where the Japanese soldiers had abandoned their ammunition. It would also be the first day since the trek commenced that Brad will see other trekkers passing in the opposite direction.

Day 8 of 8: Isarava Village to Kokoda

The final day of the 96-km Kokoda adventure. Brad is in good spirits as him and his team are on their final stretch to cross underneath the finish line (arch way) in Kokoda.
