Hannah has been avidly knitting since she was five-years-old. While teaching herself various techniques and styles of knitting she realised how sometimes the written patterns didn't quite suit her needs, so Hannah began writing her own fashion accessories patterns in 2008. She sold the items and gave them as gifts and now sells the patterns.

Always being the one who her friends turn to in times of knitting crises and having taught a few people from scratch, Hannah has begun tutoring professionally and is passionate about securing the art of knitting in everyday life for generations to come.
Teaching online began in March 2017 with a  YouTube Channel and ecourses, here on Skilshare and on the Knit With Hannah website. You can see more of her courses, and get... See full profile

1. Beginner's Baby Beanie: Introduction: welcome to this niche of Hannah course, where you will learn to net a simple baby beanie. This course follows the 1st 2 beginners courses which give instructions for a guard hostage scarf Onda customized smartphone case with buttonholes. By the end of this project, you'll be able to do a new cast on method. You'll be able to decrease the number of stitches in a row on dso longer seem, then we have before so that it is invisible from the outside. You'll be able to repeat this project on its similar projects confidently as an independent letter. In this course, I will firstly guide you through choosing your materials, your needled yon on whatever items you will need to help you As we get through the project . The next videos will focus on casting on knitting polling. We will then shape the crown in two stages and we'll finish with mattress stitch just so up the same. This course is perfect for you. If you have completed both of the other beginners committing courses that I have created, you'll have all the skills we need as we start knitting. This will also be good if you are someone who was miss it in the past, I would like a walk through reminder of the techniques were covering here today. Thank you for watching this introduction video. I hope you're encouraged to join me for the rest of the course. Blue's post Any of your comments or questions below. You can find the late to the rest of the videos in the course, of course, there, too. 2. Beginner's Baby Beanie: choosing your materials: Hi everyone. Welcome again. We are looking at materials in this video festival. I'm just going to show you my choices off. Yon we're using aren or worse to Joan again, which is a medium thickness young. I have got here two different types off natural fibers we have. This is definitely a budget. You on the 65% war on 35% out Packer. If you're looking for baby, then maybe avoid the wall. However, with the Al Packer and it it's just a case of feeling the on yourself, which it really does show how ideally is to go to a shop and choose double yourself rather than if you're especially if you're a beginner rough than necessarily Gene on the Internet This has got 35% Al Packer on our package on does tend to have good natural oils in it, so it is softer. What I also have here slightly more expensive option is cashmere merino silk yon on that's 50 grams both of these 50 grams. We certainly will not used the whole bowl. Um, Andi, I mean, there are other options out there. You could choose a cotton yon, especially ideal if you're knitting for some for baby for the summer, so I'm probably going to use this one just because the colors neutral are rather like it's , um, we're also going to need scissors, measuring tape and, of course, the tapestry needle. Andi, just as it says on the four band here, we need five millimeter needles, and this is exactly what we've been using to make the scarf on the smartphone case, so you don't need a lot more bits and pieces to keep you going. We have five millimeter short bamboo needles, and they will be more than sufficient to knit this. I'll see you on the next video when she found your young and your needles. You could get started with the next video, where we will be casting on 3. Beginner's Baby Beanie: Casting On: Hello Again. Welcome. We are looking at casting on today. Andi, here we have the young I'm choosing. I'm going to take the band off. And as I've done before, I'm going to take John out of the center of the ball to get me started. There we go. Just so that the ball doesn't roll everywhere. I can put that side. Now, I know that I'm starting with this little bit here. What we're going to do today is a casting on that will give you a much looser effect on the brim of the hat. So it would be a lot more comfortable full, um, babies to where? Only one toe wear. Really? Um and I do you find that just knowing a couple of ways to Castell can be helpful. So let's have a look at this now. We need quite a long length to start because part of the length that we have when we make the slip stitch, it's gonna help us create the stitches Still get us going. So I'm going to I just do a few lengths like that. That's about four times the length of my knitting NATO. Okay, on. And here we go, let's make a slip stitch to start with. And you may remember this is 22 fingers over the fingers by the tips of the fingers over the fingers by the knuckles and then use one of your NATO's to put underneath the 1st 1 over the second World and pull that 2nd 1 through. I just show you that again. So over the fingers, by the tips over the fingers by the knuckles underneath the first ditch with the needle over the second stitch and pull that second stitch through. There we go. We have it. So I'm going to show you how we get going with this. Now you're going to hold the needle in your right hand this time, Justice. If you were knitting. So we have the needle in the crook of your thumb in between your thumb and your first knuckle there. We're going to hold the yarn again in the same way underneath around that little finger. Andi underneath the 2nd 2 over the first. So we're ready to go with that. Just tighten that you're on a little bit. So it's nice than got a bit of attention in that there on. Then we're going to hold this loose piece of Fred in your rights left hand. And now we're going to do a trick with the thumb. This is called thumb casting on, So we're going to wind the own around the thumb underneath. On round it comes we're holding neon with the four fingers there. The sun goes over on around the on that we're using this as if it was a stitch. So we put the young the needle through the young loop there and then we knitting it. It's a simple as that we put the yuan around with the right hand and there you go. You now have two stitches on the needle. Let me show you that again. We have the on in the left hand, the thumb as around three young light match picks it up on in the right hand. Needle goes through that loop on. We knitted Muzzi on around the nasal and pull that loop from the thumb off. There we go. Let's do another one. Why don't you get the hang of this? It can be quite fast on what we're actually doing with this first row is knitting the first row. There we go on. The difference here is that the stitches will be on the right town needle rather than the left hand NATO. So we need to keep going with this cast on until we get 65 stitches. So just keep on going on and I'll see you when we get to the end of the road. There we are, Then I have 65 stitches on my needle. I'm going to count them again. I always suggest counting them twice, just in case you measure mistake on what I have this money. Stitches on the needle actually count in five. So there's a pack of three in a packet, too. So that's five turn 15 20 25 30 35 40 45 50 55 60 65. I find that easier because I'm more likely to lose count if I count single stitches. So I definitely have 65 stitches on the needle. Unlike I said, where you have missed the first row andan, usually the stitches now on the left hand needle instead of right hand needle on. I'll explain what we do about that in the next video 4. Beginner's Baby Beanie: Stocking Stitch: we're ready to start missing the bony. Here we go. So we have all of the stitches cast on. And like I said unusually, they were on the left hand nature when we cast on. So a soon as we move it to the left hand needle, you can see that we actually have all of those bubbles that suggest we have just knitted a row. So what we going to do for the first drove is poll? Andi, we did Purl stitch when we were making the smartphone case. But if you can't remember, I will show you. So you hold the yohn in the same way wrap it around your little finger underneath the next two fingers over the forefinger on you got the needle between your phone on your first knuckle. So we're holding everything there. So for pearling, we have the needle underneath the yarn on the right hand side and we put the stitch to the front, the needle right, her needle to the front, off the left hand, NATO through the stitch. Now we move Theon run like that. Here we go through the front of the stitch around and pulled out stitch off the left hand NATO there we go around. I'm pull that left stage off the NATO. You may find it difficult if these ditches are a little bit tight to you'll write her needle through the stitch. But that's probably just for this first row. Every girl you see, I'm struggling. I'll see you at the end of the road. There we go. I'm almost finished. Two stitches left and that's the Pearl Road, and you can see what fun it is when you're just stuffing Internet something like this with so many stitches, it all gets twisted as it goes around as you move along the Natal. I'm just going Teoh under fill that every guy. So that is the first row, which is Appel Room. And now we're going to do the net. True. And this is a simple as it gets for this Beanie. We're going to do a poll row thin and it true than a pearl row than a Metro and a pole row than a metro. Andi, the, um, main schools will be learning once we get a little bit further, is to shape the top of the hat so this bit is not too difficult. Not too taxing. So we have a net, bro. Next, let's get going. Holding the on in the same way, holding the needles in the same way. This time the right hand needle is over a young. So we go through the stitch underneath the left hand. NATO instead of on top on around with the young around Are we discard that needed the state chopper left hand needle around. I would remove that stitch. Riffat Stitch. I was going to make this, Roy. So once we've done the pole No net row Purl Row Metro. We need to know how far we're going. Andi, for this beanie, it will fit a newborn to about three months. We need to do about 12 centimeters to that is coming up for five inches. So 4.5 or five inches. Andi, I will see you when you finish that. You'll be pleased to know that if you have any problems along the way, if you get confused, whether you're knitting or pearling on the next row, whether you drop a stitch or whether you actually next the wrong stitch and you need to unpick it, they're worth three videos coming up, which will help you remedy those problems. So I will see you. If you have a few first problems, watch those videos and I'll see you after you have stocking. Stitch your way through 12 centimeters. All forage record interests. 5. Beginner's Baby Beanie: Shaping-part one: Hi, everyone, Congratulations. If you're back watching this, it means you have knitted your 12 centimeters are going to show you how much I've knitted for May. I have gone over 12 centimeters because doing the last two rows meant that it went over 12 centimeters. Previous to that, it was about 11 and 3/4 centimeters. So I'm happy with that. Baby can always wear it a little bit loose, but if it's too small, then it really doesn't work. What you need for the next road is toe have this side facing you. It has to be a metro first, and if you've got a pearl site health side next, then just do one more row on. You'll be ready to start decreasing the stitches to shape the crown on. What we're going to do is do a decrease rope. I'm in a poll road, a decrease road on, then a Pearl road. So it's a very simple system. Andi. As we get started, you'll probably be able to work out what we're doing. They began to learn a couple more things. Andi, we'll learn Cem very secret knitting code. I'll put it up on the bottom of the screen here so you can see where it all is and what we're doing. So the first and the last touch of every rope will be knitted. If it's a nit row on Bold, Obviously it's a pearl road, so that's the first stitch for the next. Two. Stitches were in it together, which means you put the needle through both stitches at once. Andi, it's a simple as that. Which means that you've created one stitch with two on, therefore your decreasing. On this first decrease row, we're now going to net five, run to three for five and now we're going to niche to together again. Both stitches go on the nasal Onda. We decrease it toe one and then we do another 51 to three full five. I guess what we do next we need to stitches together again. And it is just like this all the way across the road. 12345 On. Then next to together brunch. I'm going to do this all the way along the road knit, two together, knit, five knit two together. Next five until we get the last ditch, which is knit one stitch. Okay, after we go last five, 23 for five and then it the last stitch. There we go. And so I'm now going to turn this over on pull the next row. And now, once we do that Pearl Road, we turned the missing over again, and this time we do a knit stitch of the beginning. Again, we do another knit two together on. We do knit full and then another next to together, and it's four Onda knit two together all the way along the road. It is net for next to together. Niche. Four knit, two together. Andi. We keep doing that until we reach the end of the road where we do and it's one. And you may have gathered that there's a pattern to this because after every poll row, the next decrease row has won fewer stitches in between the niche to together. So once you've done this and you've done a Pearl Road, you will then be doing Net two together. Niche three. Niche to together niche three. And keep going with that until you get to niche to together Niche. One. I'll come back and show you have to finish 6. Beginner's Baby Beanie: Shaping-part two: Welcome back. We now have 20 stitches on the needle on. We're going to just finish off decreasing. So we've done Net five knit two together. We've done it for knit two together. Next free knit two together It's to knit two together and it won the two together. And now, because you hadn't guessed, we are now going to do the last wrote off. Decreasing which is in its one and then all the way across the road to the last ditch we do next to together. Let's to together knit two together, knit two together. Let's to together No, it's too together all the way along On. There we go. We have 12 stitches on the needle if I'm not mistaken, see? 123456789 10 11 11 stitches on the NATO. So what we do now is got ready to finish off Beanie on. We do that by just cutting the your on here. Could be a good length so that we've got something to sew up on. You take the tapestry nature. Andi put that young Trudeau Nigel that if I could just through a Dutch, did he go? Andi instead of using a knitting needle to take the stitches off. What we're going to do is just use this tapestry needle. Andi, I'm going to go through these structures a few at a time. One, Teoh three and then I'll take them off the needle at once, so it's more even. You see, we're not casting off here and I'll show you why. When we take that you on through there, we now have a tight top to the crown that makes it very neat and tidy. Onda, we can start sewing up the same. 7. Beginner's Baby Beanie: Sewing the Seam: So here we are ready to go to sew up the same off this hat on. And we're going to use the threat from the top that we've just used to finish that last. Rome. Andi, we're going to use what is called mattress stitch so you can stay because we don't stocking stitch. The, um wool is the fabric is kind of curling at the sides. So I have to be quite canny in the way you hold it. I just tend to hold it so I could, but my fingers underneath it and my son on talk if that makes any sense and I will try and zoom in here so you can see your bitch easy. What I'm doing now. When we were decreasing, we had one stitch on either side of the road, which means we can use those stitches with mattress stitch to so up the same. Are we going to do this like this? We're going to take this threat and put it into the side. The young in between the last two stitches here, I put it through. I'm not going to take that through the yon of the last two stitches of that row on this side now and pull that true on, then we just go from side to side. It's just finding those last two stitches on the road or the 1st 2 stitches on the road on finding that little piece of yawn that connects them and then moving through that I'm finding that on the other side are going through that Andi ferreted again in between those last two stitches, there's a little bit of young and there it is. There you can see that that Excuse me if I hit my camera again and we got I hope you can see that so one bit at a time in between those two stitches is that little bit of your own on. We can see that there on that. I'm going to continue doing this all the way down to where we cast on originally as I'm finishing here. I'm just going Teoh, move this young through both sides, off the cast on Seem. Here we go. I'm joined it up with a couple of stitches tethered. It looks nature. And then that is finished. That is mattress stitch taking you through all the way down that scene on matching it up for you. And this is so that you don't have to use a circular need or if you're a beginner and it's a great thing to learn, because if you do end up wanting to make larger items, then the likelihood is that you will need to seem so just another little skill under the tool belt. And I will just pull those yelled through. That's the cost on threats as well on and there we go. Just secure them out the back. Andi, I have made baby tax with seems for many years, and I never have any complaints. It's the simplicity of the patterns and the softness of the wall. I think that makes the difference. Um, Andi, like I say, nobody has ever said that the baby doesn't want to wear it because there's a seam in it. It doesn't matter. I have hats with. Seems in on I don't mind at all. I don't think it I've got sensitive skin. I don't think it matters at all. It's the it's the you on. I think that matters more and whether you initially neat texture and this is certainly comfortable. So there we are we have it just so knows two threads through the seam there, which is very useful. Think I just finished baby hat to be proud off.
