1. Welcome and Course Overview: Hi and welcome to basics Off key note. I'm your instructor shoving Bandaranaike. This entire course has been designed from ground up to help you leverage and get the most out of keynote. From looking at the interface to finding out how to design breathtaking presentations as well as do any nations for a few advanced techniques as well, this course will take you from zero to hero off key note. 2. Creating a Presentation: in this very first lesson, we're gonna begin our course by starting a fresh presentation off the ground. Now, the very first thing that I want you to do is identify that on your desktop. You have your doc at the very bottom. You might have adjusted it to your left or your right. In any case, just go towards your doc. And most likely you will find by default the keynote application right in the middle off it . Um Now, if you can't find it there, there are two ways in which you can access it. One is by scrolling all the way to the side until you come to launch pad once again on the dock. All you can hit the F four key on your keyboard to launch it straight out the back. So I'm gonna hit that. I'm gonna hit a full the moment I do that you get your launchpad. If you're familiar with the IOS system as well is very similar to your iPad or the iPhone as well. Now, on this screen, I would like this cruel to wherever keynote is. And then I'm gonna fire it up from this point onwards now the moment you fire up keynote for the first time, you'll be presented with a dialog box, a window, so to speak. This window is where you start your presentation, and it'll quite rightly so Mentioned are rather ask you to choose a team. Now they're a bunch off pre defined templates and teams, which are available on keynote. You can go through these on your own time, primarily because there's a lot that you can work with in terms of foundation ing. The presentation you want create, but for the purposes off our course will actually go with something blank now. Two things I want to outline before proceeding. Firstly, you'll notice that there are two tabs to sort of selection boxes at the very top, the standard and white. The reason why these two out there is primarily, for example, the standard format. Off the presentations lights that you see here are what are known as 4 to 3 ratio slides. Now all the projectors. If you've seen those a DLP projectors in offices and corporate institutions, they emit a resolution off 1024 by 7 68 which has ideally afford three ratio. Hence why it's much more boxy. Um, the wine aspect. If you click on white there, you notice that the presentations are structured in different way. This is if you are presenting something on an LCD. One of those big, large four K displays Anything which is wide in aspic. Reissue 16 by nine Offer the nerds among you for our presentation for the purposes of this , so that we can present it in a very wholesome, high definition manner. We're gonna go with white, but you're perfectly all right. Even if you go with standard all the features of the same, it's just the way in which it is presented and my new whichever one you select here, you can change it later on in the application itself. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna select wide and then I'm going to select a white backdrop because we've got a blank canvas to do our tutorials and the course here in. And then once I've done that, all I'm going to do is click on, choose at the very bottom right off the window. Once I do that, you'll be presented with our main workspace. This is going to be where we do most of our work and will be going through the interface and the structure off this before we proceed onto the detailed aspects off key note and our course that'll be in our next lesson. 3. Slide Deck Controls: in the previous lesson, we went through how exactly we can fire up keynote by either accessing it directly from the dashboard at the very bottom, off the screen or through the many white him as well. Once we did that, we are presented with this blank canvas upon which we are able to create any type of presentation. Now, in the next few lessons, we will be looking at the introduction on the basics of the interface itself, the various elements that are there in this particular interface and the workspace and how you can utilize them to create breathtaking presentations from the very simplest off them. Two very complex pieces of animation in this and in other courses as well. Right now, to go into this properly, I'll just give you a very basic outline of what we're dealing with in the beginning, and then we'll proceed on to more detailed aspects off the interface. The moment you fire up keynote, you will see on the left off your screen an entire pain that's allocated to your slides. At this very moment, it is selected into the first light, and you notice that in the main workspace it just say's double click to edit. Um, in two different formats, this is known as a slide deck, and this is where all of your slides will live. Now, once you see this very first slide deck, you are able to do a multitude of tasks. For instance, you can right click on whatever the slide deck that's currently selected, and you'll be presented with the sub Manu, in which you can create a slide. You are able to skip slides, you are able to duplicate slides and so on. I'm gonna hit commands ed to go back and undo pretty much everything that I just did. Now, apart from this, the slide dig also allows you to do a number of things, including completely remove it in order for you to focus on the work space right in the middle. Now, the way you do that is right above the very first slide, you will have a drop down menu known as view. Once you click this menu, you'll be presented with several options, including just to have the slide alone. Now. This would eliminate the slight that can give you a bit more screen real estate toe work with now. I'm currently working on a 27 inch cinema display on. Therefore, there's plenty of room to go around. But for instance, if you are on the go and maybe creating our editing, your presentation on a laptop while it's flying from one location, the other chances are you need all the screen real estate you can get. I'm gonna bring this back so that we can have a stable on a steady template to work with. Now that we've had a basic understanding of the slide deck and how this sliding operates in the next lesson, as we continue on, the introduction to the interface will have a look at the different tools that are available to you. 4. Tools Overview: okay, in this lesson, we're going to look at one of the fundamental areas off key note in this introduction course to keynote as well, Primarily in the previous lesson, we had a look at the sidebar which outlines the slide deck where you can control a multiple number of slides. You can create new ones, you can duplicate them or you can skip them, as you might see in this case, which I have done for several slides that will be going through later on in the course as well. But before we proceed, I just want to outline something really quickly. Um, just before we proceed onto the lesson at hand on the different aspects are elements off the toolbar at the very top. Primarily this major workspace screen that you see, this is what you get by default when you start up when you fire up presentation. But this can actually be easily changed because we need a blank canvas for the remaining elements are right. Remaining lessons in this course. What I'm gonna do is show you how, exactly that's done before we proceed on to the next spot off this lesson. So the way you do that is on your right hand side. You will see under the format pain at the very right, most corner off the display. Once you click that, you'll notice it coming and going. You see slide layout. So what I would like you to do is click Change, master. And then from this, you'll be presented with a number off different master slides. In this case, we've selected the title and subtitle, which comes by default. So I wanted to go all the way to the bottom and then click blank. And when you do so, this entire screen will become a blank white canvas. And this is what we will be primarily working with throughout our course. Okay, now that we've got that out of the way, let's get into the lesson properly. Um, in the previous lesson, we went through the slide deck. Now, in this lesson, we're going to go through the toolbar, which appears at the very top off your workspace. Now there are bunch of different things and elements that we need to go through, so we'll go through them one at a time. First and foremost is a very quick introduction to this particular tool. But on the left most corner, something we went through initially as well when we went through the slide deck. You'll obviously have what are known as different aspects. You can look at four year slide as well. So at the moment we have a navigation pane, which means the full Monty off the workspace. You can also have slide only, which means it will just become the slide. And you would have noticed earlier on the very corner, most right hand side when I clicked on format. You can remove that as well, taking a lesser space. I'll just keep that there. Similarly, you can have a light table, which is basically a quick overview off everything your slide or your presentation has to offer. All of your slides are visible in one go. I'm just gonna get back to Navigator here, and there's a bunch of other formats that you can go through in this context. This is your slight control, the slide deck control, which provides you with an opportunity off going through different aspects, including your notes. Any comments that you have included for maybe a collaborative would look at and so on were not going to go into detail about about everything here, because that's for another lesson. Altogether. There's just an overview next to that you have something that you might see in other aspects of the I work infrastructure in Apple. In other applications, like pages numbers and so on. This is your zoom level. Now the zoom levels are basically for your main workspace. So at the moment we're working with 100%. You cannot be steep, go down to 25% or you can zoom all the way up to 400% and so on. This is quite important in the context off, you know, detail ing out certain aspects of your presentation. Now, apart from the cinema display, just as my personal work space I use on Apple magic track pad as well. And what this allows you to do is if you go into the middle of the workspace apart from the tools that are provided to you on that top left, you can also pinch to zoom, and you can change the zoom levels off your presentation much more fluidly and accordingly , and you'll notice at the very top zoom level as well is going up and down in a much more on stagnant man and rather than the default that have been allocated for it. So I'm gonna leave this at 100% and the next to that you have a very simple control, which is adding slights now adding slides as well. Once you click it, you'll notice that you're presented with same slide options off the mast options that were provided to you under formatting on the right side pain Just the one that we changed from title Subtitle So you can add a title subtitle I'm just gonna hit Command Z to go back. Similarly, you can have a multitude of other presets. I always recommend going with a blank canvas and then adjusting it accordingly. Right? I'm just gonna click that and go back. Now, apart from this, you will also be presented with what is known as play and keynote life. I'm not gonna go into keynote life because that's another lesson, all of itself. And this is basically a system by which you can have multiple collaborators looking at it at the same time. It's somewhat like a broadcast, but play as the name itself suggests once clicked. It will just go directly into your presentation, whatever that appears here, including animations. Everything will play as according to how you've timed it for your actual presentation. I'm gonna hit the escape key to go back. And once you do that, were brought back into our workspace. Now, in the next lesson, we will go through each off the tools available to you in the toolbar from this point onwards, one at a time, and I'll show you how, exactly they fit into this particular workspace and what options are available to you in order to edit it as well. That's in the next lesson. 5. Table: in this lesson, we will begin our discussions on how you can bring in different elements onto your canvas onto your presentation and begin sculpting or designing it, so to speak. Now, to begin our discussion, we're going to start off first with adding one of the major characteristics are one major type of element which is a loved and keynote, which is that off table Now, in order to bring a table in, What I'm gonna do is on the chop toolbar on the the tools that are available to us. I'm gonna just click table, which is the first selection. And the moment I do so, you'll immediately notice that there are a number of styles which are available to you. You can scroll through these, um, and you can pick one that, um maybe works for you. But in the context off our lesson, I'm gonna go with something as bland as as blank as I can, so that then we can show you we can discuss rather how, exactly we can manipulate these tables. So somewhere in the middle, I found one. That's to my liking, which is this one. I'm gonna just click on that and once I left click on this, it'll appear right in the middle off my canvas. Now, you notice that the moment I brought this in, it's broken down into four columns and five rules. All of this you need to understand is amendable. You can change everything about this and the way I'm going to start amending this first and foremost is I'm going to resize this. Um, the way I resize this is you noticed on this particular table, there are several bounding boxes around the table as well. I'm just gonna go ahead and select the one at the very bottom, right? As you can see you with here, and there's two ways to go about it, you'll notice if I just grab a hold of this and move this around. Um, it does so in a non constrained manner. Now, this is not the output that we want, and many things in keynote will allow you to do it in this way. However, if I want to constrain the proportions, let's say I want to keep this particular aspect where it's double the width. Worse is the height. Let's say all I have to do is while holding down this particular point, this particular constraining point on the table. I'll hit the shift key on my keyboard, and immediately you'll see how it goes back. And it snaps back into its constrained proportions. I'm gonna do that right now, so I'm just gonna hit the shift key and you'll notice the moment I do. So there's a yellow line diagonally that appears, and I am able to resize it on that axis alone. Now, this provides great opportunities on re sizing any element, actually, And we look into that, the more we do and the more elements we bring in. But for now, I'm just gonna resize this to something like 1 to 50 points with and 640 points height. They're just gonna let it go. Once I do that, the next thing I'm gonna do is I'm gonna move it somewhere in the middle of the middle of the cameras, the middle of the work area. Now the way I could do that is by going to the top left corner off the table and you'll see there's a slight circular symbol or icon on top of that. The moment you do So you see the diagnosed or rather, the directional symbol appears. Well, I'm just gonna grab that, and I'm gonna move it where I want to move it now. Notice how, as I'm moving it around the canvas at certain places, it snaps into place. For instance, In terms off, it's more tickle positioning as I'm somewhere right in the middle in context, to the canvas as well as the table. There's a yellow line that appears. And as I'm moving across this line, another one snaps into place. Now, this is dead center off the, um off the canvas. So right, We've brought in an element we brought in a table. The next thing I want to show you is how we can manipulate the design off this table. We re size it. We brought it to one place. Now we're going to this much more in depth as we do a separate lesson on it. But you notice on the right side of the right pain, um, you are indicated several different aspects or several different features or formatting options available to you. And this is a relative pain. What I mean by a relative pain is that this Spain will change based on the element that is selected on screen. For instance, if I click outside onto the cameras, you'll notice it just completely goes off. And all you can see is a slide loud, which we've been through in an earlier lesson. But the moment I click the table, it comes back into something specific for the table. No, the few things that we can do here are in relation to the cell as well as any text which is inside of it. Now, what I want to do is wild format is selected. Make sure you select sell on that pain. And the very first thing I'm gonna do is I'm going to go and change the fill color and the way I'm gonna change the field colors. I'm just going to select the drop down on the field color pain, all the fill color dialog box. I'm just gonna go and see no field. The moment I do that, it becomes a completely transparent backdrop and this is much easier to work with. Apart from that, there are so many other things you can do with the table as well. For instance, you'll notice just below that, you're provided with what is known as a border Now. This, in turn, relates to the different columns and the lines that are provided to you on this stable. I'll go through one example just to show you how exactly you can manipulate a table. Let's say, for instance, I wanted to select, um column or are the cell C two, which is this the moment I do. So once that is selected, I have the option off selecting either the left most, um, boundary line, the right most run the bottom, the top or the complete one and then manipulated that cell alone. Let's say, for example, I wanted to emphasize something in this table specifically in that cell. I'm not only able to change the color from the field to whatever color that I want, I'm gonna hit commands that to go back. But I can also increase the wit off the boundary. I can change the color off the boundary. I can even change the type of style the border itself to a different either dotted line or something which is completely solid and so on. I'm gonna kit Command said once again to go back to where we were when we started. Okay, so that by and large is a very quick outline off what you can do with tables. Apart from this, you are clearly easily able to amend the dimensions of each table in terms of the columns in terms off, the wits end any and all things are possible. And if you are familiar with other applications as well, not just in the Mac or the apple infrastructure, but also in that of windows by and large the same thing. But it's quite easy. For example, let's say I want to add another column here if I want to do so. All I do is go to the right most pain where you see these two lines, and the moment I click it, I will have an option off adding more columns to it. Now, notice how the columns are added within the boundaries we have set for this table, we provided 1000 to 50 with, and within those 1000 to 50 with you have the opportunity of adding a number off. Different columns will bring this back down to four. Similarly, you have another one at the bottom left corner, which gives you the option of increasing the lion items. A number off the number of lines are the rules as well, right? We'll go through maybe a sample project towards the end of this course where we can go much more in depth the different types of features, like establishing how exactly text or typography is going to be amending here, or how we can arrange this, align it with other elements as well. But for now, there's a quick outline of table, and in the next lesson we will look at how exactly you can bring in another element through the toolbar, which are charts. 6. Charts: in this lesson, we're gonna continue our discussion on the overview and the basics of the different tools that are available to you in order for you to structure and outline your presentation. Now, in the previous lesson, we had a look at tables and how exactly you can bring in a table, resize a table on Ben, you know, format it in a way that is most appropriate for you later on. When we do, a sample project will go much more in depth into how exactly you can formulate in structure it in the best possible manner for any given scenario moving on with the next lesson. In this particular instance, we're gonna look at how to bring in an interesting and quite an interactive element as well , which are charts. Now, let's get straight into it. As you noted earlier on the worry top the middle top off the tools panel, we looked at table initially. Now we're gonna have a look at charts and just like table. When you click on charts, you're gonna be presented with a number of different styles and elements. I'm not gonna show you exactly how you can bring in something from a different application such as, for example, numbers. Let's say in order to get the chart made the way that you want to. But in this particular instance, what we're gonna do is we're gonna bring in a chart, include the date or the details in it at this point of time, dynamically. And then we'll go through the different examples and the different outcomes that can, um, be entailed from that point onwards, right? Just as I noted, much like in table, you have a multitude of different variations. There's different versions that you can go with as well, apart from this, mind you. All of this is amendable plus changeable later on, and I'll show you how to do that as well. But for the purposes of this lesson, I'll just taking a simple chart a simple, um, vertical bar chart, which is the 1st 1 here. And once you click on the bar chart, it'll appear automatically on the screen, and in this instance, it's quite perfectly placed, and I don't need to really edit or a just a form at the chart at all. And if you're familiar with any other application or the concept of charts as well. You're not here. These are just defaults that they have included. All of this once again, just like with the constraining charts are a mean amendable. You can move these around command Zet, go back slightly. You can, you know, compress this in the way that you want. And so on. Apart from that, if you would pay attention, maybe to the right hand pain off the formatting section, you notice how I'll just click outside to show you while it was slide layout. Before the moment the chart is selected, you get a plethora off formatting options right there on the right hand site. You have things which are simple like, for example, changing the style off the chart where you can change the color. All of these are amendable. Once again, you can add titling just above the chart. You can add a border around the child. Just click outside to show you on. Emphasis on that on. Let's remove that. You can add a legend based on what you're talking about. Here you can change the front completely. Throughout this particular chart on, there's a bunch of other options that you have one thing that's quite interesting to me is in relation with the design off the various speaks here. So if I select the entire shot, for instance, you see right, Say's under the chart formatting pane rounded corners. So here I can actually take this slider all the rate of the corner to round each individual vertical bond. That's quite cool. And in itself, I can even make it so that the bottom half doesn't really corner route. It just flattens out towards the end. But it looks quite rounded at the top Now. All of these things, including the background color, for example, everything is amendable, everything, including the lines as well as the backdrop. I'm just gonna hit commands that go back on everything here, including no background filled. Right now, you might have noticed. I'm still working on the defaults here. There's nothing specifically mentioning that this is my shot. The way you change that, apart from bringing in debt from outside, is quite simply, you'll notice while the chart is selected, there is a button at the very bottom Writers edit shot data. Now, when I click any chart data, it will open up a separate dialogue box, and this is quite akin and quite similar to Apple's I work numbers. Or if you're familiar with the Microsoft Windows infrastructure, it's similar to an Excel sheet. This is where all your information on the chart can be changed. So, for instance, besides saying April, May, June and July, let's say, keynote hopes, numbers pages and let's let's actually say you Demi, since it's on a course as well. Once you do that, you'll notice how it reflects automatically at the bottom Israel, and you've noticed how each one is different. Same goes with the numbering Israel. You can change the numbers and you can change everything in this particular chart. The beauty of this is you can always revisit this even after the presentation has been completed. In this context, it's always amendable. Apart from this, what I would like you to show like to show you rather is how this type of chart is also amendable. To a great degree, I'm just gonna close this dialog box and notice how, underneath the chart pain underneath the formatting sharp pain, you'll have shocked type. Now, the moment you click that you'll be presented with a number of different options. And if I scroll down, you'll see there's two D, the ones that we selected, which is the default to the column chart that we select it and there's three D, and I'll just click that to show you an example. This is also quite amendable in itself. You'll notice that there's a treaty wheel in the middle. You can touch different cool ways that it it makes sense to really use something like this . Depending on the type of presentation you're working with. I'm gonna hit command set, go back and commands that once again to go back to a flat form it. Now what's interesting or what's most opportune here and we'll go through when we do animations a bit later is you have what is known as an interactive chart. I'm going to select an interactive column chart, which is that the way bottom here And when you do so you notice immediately that the charge just changes completely. And the reason why is this text data from the different regional data sets? I'm just gonna hit any data shot once again, and you'll notice that there are specifically too rosy a region one and region to and what effectively, But the interactive column chart does is it'll activate this mechanism off interactivity so as to be able to go through this slide at the very bottom and look at each one separately. Now, this is quite important if you're trying to bring in a form of movement and fluidity, specifically when you're doing animations later, I'm gonna leave this at this point because when we go through animations, this is somewhat advanced in terms of how you can manipulate it. But by and large, those are the fundamentals and the basics off shots. You can bring them in just like table or any other element. You can amend them. You can colorize them and format them to whichever way you want, And you can always change things about as well. Um, take some time on the right hand pain to play around at some of these aspects as well, if you're going through keynote at the same time, is you're doing these lessons as well. For instance, everything, including these sliders, even are quite amendable. So just have a look at those, and when we meet in the next lesson, that will be quite comprehensive in relation to typography and text. 7. Typography: in this lesson, we will continue our discussion on the various tools that are available for you to structure and design your presentation. Knowing the previous lesson, we went through charts, and even before that we went through tables. Now we're going to start looking at some of the elements that, by and large, will be using quite significantly when you are doing a presentation, starting off with typography or text. So to begin our lesson, the very first thing I want to do is reach out to the very first, are at the middle off your tools bond. You notice that there's something that says text and just simply left click on it the moment you do so the first thing that you will see is just a text box that appears right in the middle off your canvas, and then your right hand pain gets automatically adjusted accordingly, relatively to the element that has been selected in this case, the textbooks. I'm just to show you once again how this changes once you pay attention to the right hand side. If I click outside anywhere on the canvas, it disappears. When I click on text. It changes once again to style, text and arrange. I'll get to style a bit later. The first thing I want to go through is text, which is by default what you see when you bring in a text box into the canvas. Now there are multitudes off different options available here, things which you can play around on your own time. But I'll show you the major elements and some off them you might be familiar with if you've gone through other applications as well, such as, for instance, in Windows you have word, Excel, PowerPoint and so on. But essentially, this is quite simple to navigate around. One of the major elements you see is font, which is the main section underneath this text pain. Then you have alignment and spacing front. As you might know, it's basically where you can select the front off the typography off the face that you're working with. I'll keep it that Helvetica, which is the default here, then the style off that fund can then be selected by word shoe off the different options that are available. Let's make it medium for this. For this instance, you'll see how were relatively changes in the text box just so that we have a little bit more to work with here, Let with no real estate work with. I'm gonna increase the size from 30 points toe 100. There you go. Now it's nice and large, something that we can see and to continue on our lesson as well. I'm gonna type up something. And the way I do so is once this text boxes selected, just simply click once again, it'll go into the curse unmoored. Um, let's go with basics off key note and I can hit carriage return or enter to come down with Shevin Bandaranaike. Okay, now, since we've created this, I'm gonna click outside and it will go back to the default view. And when I click, this is just like any other element. I'm capable off moving this around and snapping it into places, so I'm gonna bring it right in the middle and snapping it into place. Beyond that, there are a bunch of different formatting options you have for typography as well. You'll notice here that on the top left, I already have something that says typography set. And this is a locked piece of text. So When I click it, you'll notice the boundary box is very different. You won't see any off the for mating sections on the right 10 site. And that's a locking. We're doing it. The way you do so is you select the text box, you right click and then you simply say, Look, once you do that, you can't really amando do anything with it. I'm gonna unlock this since we need an unlocked version toe work on this particular typography set. Once I've done that, I'm gonna show you some of the other features as well. Very simply, you can make these things bold as well. There's a short cut for this on your keyboard just so that you are a bit more productive. And that's command be so every time you hit command be can I? The bold on on bold bold on on both. Same goes for italics. You can have it selected their itself or simply command I to go. Right, Alec? Um, another option is to underline it once again. Come on. You for underlying. It's always good in order for productive 86 as power users go to have a set of shortcuts ready at hand whenever you want to use. Apart from this, there are some interesting features available when you go to the fourth option, where once you click it, you'll have some advanced features or advanced options appear, and I'll go through each one quite quickly. Firstly, you have character spacing. What character? Spacing this for graphic designers and designers in general among you is basically it's Kerney. Each correct. Each letter has a specified distance between each other. So once you increase this value, so would the distance between each character. So just to give you an indication, I can slowly increase from this method and you'll notice how it just, you know, divided Servet current. It seven stretches itself out, right? I'm gonna bring this back to zero. Baseline shift is idea when you have two lines, one after the other and you want to increase the size among them. Oh, are other distance among them. So if I increase the baseline shift, you'll notice how the distance between the two lines increased from one another. Once again, I'm gonna bring this back to zero. There are instances when you might want to show dates and specific period so Let's, for instance, say, Let me keep this somewhere down here and let me copy and paste it. That's command C Command we and then move it right up here. And let's just say, um, let's listen first of January, first January. Um, now, in this context, you'll notice that s t here the first. It's not necessarily the best former that we can or we want. So the way you do that is you superscript it and you might be familiar with this from other applications as well. What I would do is I would highlight the letters that I want super scripted or brought above. I'll go to my formatting text Spain hit the cog and then Goto baseline and then superscript . There you go, right, Perfect. Let's move this slightly aside so that we can focus more on this. There are some basic examples as well. Basic options, rather where you can change color just like we looked at in several of the options. Um, you can have a bit more controlled aspect of the color as well, so that you have by and large of better options in, you know, portraying the characteristics that you want But then again, you can play with this on your own time. Let me select something which is there you go no. Apart from this, there are multitudes of things you can do with typography, things that we will go through when we do a bit more in depth or advanced sections. Off key note. Israel. But what I would like to leave you with is a few other options available to you in relation to style in relation to color and how you can use it to propel your designs to the next level. And the way we do that is apart from text in typography, there will be another element that's that's noted as style when you go to style, just like we looked at in terms of table or even in charts that are number of options that are available to you. The one thing that I want to show is the ability for us to fill the void that exists around the bounding box off this particular typography set, or the text that reviews so as to emphasize is a bit more. And the way we do that is under filled, you'll have a little box which has no Phil already on it, and you can select the color that works for you. In this case, I'm going to select something like Dark Blue and then you'll notice how it's manifested itself. In this way, there are several other ways you can do this as well. You know, to have a title may be made up and so on, but we'll go through those. Once we do those separate sections, you can have borderlines going with different colors. Schematics like Red. You can control the different wits, the type of line itself. You can go pretty, pretty well, crazy with what you are capable of doing with keynote. But for now, we're gonna leave it at this point because it's easier for us to ascertain what it's possible with keynote from this particular typography is set. And then when we do any missions and other sections, including what we're going to go through next, which are shapes, we'll do a bit more advanced techniques when it comes to form a team that is typography and text as basics to keynote. In the next lesson, we will go through ships 8. Shapes: in this lesson, we will continue our discussion on the different tools that you can use to design and perfect your presentation. Now, part of this point, we looked at how we can bring in different elements, like tables, charts on in the media preceding lesson typography. In this lesson, we're gonna look at shapes now. What I would like you to do is first and foremost click on the shape symbol right on the tool bar up above, and immediately you'll be presented with this dialog box, which has a number of different shapes, as well as to that you can use to shape up, so to speak, your presentation. So much so that apple and keynote have provided you with the search bar to choose the type of symbol or shape that you would like. So, for example, it's a book will provide you with a book a car will provide you. It's so many different types of cars. I mean, this gets cards and carbon as well. Just government delete that. But the first thing that I want to outline in a number of different shapes that we're gonna talk about is that off a square which is the simplest shape and outline how, exactly you can manipulate it as well. So go ahead and click on the square symbol right on the shape to about, and it comes into focus. It comes in the mainstay off your canvas now, much like in table like we looked at in a previous lesson, you are able to use the bounding boxes around this ship to first and foremost, rearrange or reshape it on. And just like in table, you're also able to resize it based on a constraint, because in this format, when you're re sizing it, it's effectively becoming a rectangle, and there's no bounding box. But if you hit down the shift key while doing so, an immediate access will appear and you'll be able to resize it on one particular access, thereby making it a square for the purposes of this. Listen, what I'm gonna do is I'm not gonna bound this to a square. Just gonna leave it aside and I'm gonna make it into a rectangle that's there's something like that. Okay, I'm gonna bring this to the middle. There you go. There's a reason why I'm doing this. So a bit later, on. You'll notice now. Once we've got this shape down, you know it is just like in every other element that we brought in. There's a right hand pain that provides you with so many different options to fill the color out to something else. You can even have Grady ins in place. You can go more specific with color veal as well, which are not going to do. In this case, you can add borders just like we looked at earlier. You can include shadows, for example, Drop shadows, contact shadows or my favorite actually curves shadows where the shadow is curved or other shadow is more distant towards the end and somewhat a shallow in the middle. And I'm gonna leave this particular shadow and show you a few more options in relation to that as well. You can increase the offset value, so this would mean the total distance between the element and the shadow, and there's a lot that you can play around. Believe this. At zero, you can increase or decrease the opacity how visible the shadow is. For instance, let's leave it around 75% and you can edit this just by punching out the numbers on it as well. You can change the color and the angle as well. Now, in the previous lesson in terms off typography, we looked at how you can fill out typographical box the text box itself with the color Ah, much more clean. A way of doing it is to actually incorporate your text inside off the box that you want to use. Let me explain now that you have this particular rectangle, what is capable with this is non infinite. Um, once you double click this particular element any predictor shape for that matter, you'll notice that a cursor appears right in the middle off it. In essence, you can convert any element any shape, for example, to hold on its own any piece of typography, any text for that matter. So in this case, let's say, um, basics off shapes, and you notice how it's much more cleaner in the sense that the bounding box can be adjusted this size that you want. So, for instance, once I've done this, let me highlight it just like a normal textbooks and you'll notice here on the right hand pain besides the style. Now I have a text element as well text formatting option as well. And just like we looked at in typography that Texas identical here you can increase the size. Let's make this about 100. That might be too big, Let's say 60. There you go, the colors already selected. I can make this bold. I can change the font and so on. What's more, if I have aligned this to the center, you'll notice there are three other options which are also available in terms of typography . But this is in relation to rare on the box vertically, the text will appear. I'll leave it in the middle. I'll just click outside. Once you select this, you are able to amend it even further. This is a true that I use constantly in relation to making sure that I have something that looks quite professional and quite nice in terms off. Ah, heading something that will pop out when and if I run this as a presentation in front off others that we bring this back to the middle, right, so this is one predictor type of shape. Another type of shape that you can actually work with is something which is not pretty find . So if I'm to move this aside somewhat and then click on shape once again, you'll notice that on the right top corner there is a pencil, which provides you an opportunity to draw through the pen tool. If you click this particular simple, you'll notice that a slight pain or a tip off a pen appears, and you are given an opportunity to draw Freehand. Now for the purposes of this lesson, I'm just going to draw something quick, very simple, and in essence, you are supposed to have different points, which make up a shape. So I'm just gonna draw one point at a time. Let's do something to that effect. And then, once I'm done with my shape, all I do is go back to the inception point and you'll see how it snaps as I go near it and then simply click once again and then once this is completely done up, you are before you close this particular shape up. You are even able to adjust the shape as well to give you a better perspective. Here, let me just zoom in slightly more and move this around slightly and you'll notice how I'm able to not just adjust these shapes. But as I'm going through the lines, you'll see other points appear as well. And I can further elaborate the ship into how, exactly I wanted. Now in an advanced listen. We'll actually be looking at how we can utilize this to create some astonishing animations by covering up sections of images. Israel. Ah, But for the purposes of this lesson, you notice how the pen tool can be used to make custom shapes off this caliber now. Another interesting thing is, each of these points need not be so rigid. If you notice as I'm moving this around, it continues to keep at the 90 degree angle. If I right click any given point, you'll notice that there is a subsequent menu that appears, which allows me to change the type off point that I'm working with right now. It's a sharp point, however, notice how, if I make it a smooth point, the circumstances differ dramatically. Okay, now, once I'm happy with shape that's been created, let's make something that create some semblance of fluidity. All have to do is hit the carriage return or the enter key and the shape is done. Let me zoom out of this so that we can see the whole entirety off it. There you go. And now, once the shape is completely done up, the beauty off it is. It's amendable in terms of for mating and color just as much as any other ship. So you'll notice the style pain appear. I can fill the color up to read all that yellow, in this case, just to give it a different outlook. I can not have a line it all if I told want to, but let's keep a line. Nonetheless, I can have shadows going down like a curve shadow coming in. Let's command Z to go back on that. I can move this around and what small If I double click on the ship, it's still the same as before. I can type up, um, custom ship. I can type up whatever I want and amended, just as I did the rectangle before in the previous ship. Now you might be wondering whether the shape that I've created remains the same way, Not entirely. So. What you can do here is once the shape is done up in this way you can right click on the shape and you notice in the menu that appears along with shape. There is a selection that says, Make any trouble the moment you say make creditable, it'll go back to that same bounding box and I can adjust the shape here and there you go. And then I hit Enter once again and it becomes a solid ship Now. What's interesting is the same is actually true about the shape that we created before. Although it's not a custom shape, you still have the option of right clicking, saying, Make edit herbal and making those edits yourself. I'm gonna go back so that we can keep it where it waas, right? One final thing in terms off shapes before we proceed on to the next lesson is that apart from the different shapes that you are loved or you can create through key note, there are other mechanisms by which you can utilize, for example, lines which are dynamically connected with one another. Let me elaborate. So for this particular example, I'm gonna bring in a text box which appear somewhere there, and let's a 0.1 after I do so let me copy and paste this control C control be and I'll bring something. Then I'll say point to now let's presume these are two points in a particular graph or a scale, and I want them to be connected with one another. The usual way you could do this is you could perhaps go to shape, bring a line item in. You can bring the line all the way to the middle and resize it or shape it up. And it's completely fine, right? But the problem is, let's presume I have to move this around. I have to take 0.1 here and point to their now. If I'm trying to reconnect them, I have to go through the hassle once again of doing so. But what if and I'll go back on this rather than having to do that, Let's presume there's something dynamically connected, and that's where dynamic linking comes in. If I delete this line once you go back into shape, the third line gives you that dynamic linking option or a connecting line. So what I'm going to simply do is bring that into the foray. Bring that into the cameras, I'm gonna bring it all the way over. And unlike last time, I'm gonna take one point and I'm going to go all the way up 2.1 and you know how it's you see how it snaps. There you go. Onto that particular point, I'm gonna leave it there. I'm gonna take the other one and snap it. Did the other one? No. At this point, I can readjust with the green point and it will snap back into being a solid ship. And let's say I want a bit more room between the line 0.1 and 0.2 Israel. All I do is I go to arrange on the right hand pain and you notice that styles appear for this as well, just like any other element. And I'm gonna offset underneath connection, um, each start point. Do something like 15 points by 15 points. No, since these are connected, I can move any of these things around, and the connection will remain. And that's the beauty of it. Imagine having some sort off spider graph or let's say, a mind map that you're creating something we will look at towards the latter part of this course is well right So that was a succinct overview, and the basics off shapes off what you can do on. And we went a little bit in depth and somewhat advanced in shames of in terms of the custom ships as well as the connecting lights. In the next lesson, regular round off of a discussion on the different tools you can use to design a presentation by looking at media, the types of media you can bring in the controls that you'll have and what else you can do in order to enrich your presentation. That's in the next lesson. 9. Media: in this lesson, we're going to continue our discussion on the different tools which are available to you in Apple's keynote in order to enrich and design your presentation. We've currently looked at how to bring in a table and manipulated. Same goes for charts, typography or text sets and shapes, and how to even create your own shape, so to speak. In this lesson, we're going to continue that by understanding how you can bring in one of the primary assets or an element that we use on a day to day basis. When designing presentations, either to present all to manipulate video for an introduction, for instance, and which is media assets, no media assets account, fall images, videos and audio files. We're gonna go through one such media as it, and I'm gonna show you where you can bring those from how you can do so and what manipulation techniques or what anything methods are available to you. So if you have to get in straight to the lesson, I'd like you to go up into the tool. But once again, and the fifth option that's available to you is media. Once you click on media, you're provided with the list off different aspects or different things that you can bring in from photos. You can access the image gallery you can bring in movies and music. All of this refers primarily to your apple infrastructure. Eso If you've already set up my photos, or if you set up iTunes, the music library, as well as any video assets which are there within the apples infrastructure ecosystem, you can directly bring it in from there. However, nine out of 10 times you won't really access any asset in the ecosystem. By and large, you'll find something online. You would have downloaded something, and it's in your file system, and you just want to bring it in to, um, the canvas to keynote too many pill it. So I'm gonna show you three ways in which you can do that. One of the major ways you can do so is after you click on media. You can straight off go down to choose, and once you do that, it will open up a separate dialog box within keynote, and this gives you access to go in two different parts off your file system and select which of a file is required. So I'm gonna go into death. Stop here and you'll notice that it just accesses the file system completely. And then I'm going to select Leonid us. And once I select the file that I want, one quick tip is if you're not sure about what the file is, you can always hit the space bar. And when you do so, it will show you a quick preview off the image that you're trying to bring in S. So this is this fantastic image off Leonidas, which I've been using to do another course for a fellow instructor. So I'm just gonna bring that in, um, as an example. So once I've selected that, all I do is just click on insert on the bottom right corner, and it'll quickly import the image. This off course is a high resolution image, so there might be certain Jeter's. But the better the resolution, the better it is for the presentation as well. Now, this is one method of doing it. I'm gonna show you two others before you proceed, so I'm gonna delete this for now. The other way you can do so is to simply drag and drop from the desktop itself. So I'm gonna move over to my other desktop. You go and you'll see that Leonie does is selected. I can simply take it and drag it all the way to my canvas. And once I'm over the cameras, you see, like a plus addition symbol, which is provided for me, and I just let go, and it will add it onto the canvas as well. Same process. Um, the third way in which you can do so I'll delete this once again is you can search for something online, and rather than having to save it on your desk top going in any other area in your fire system, you can directly drag it over from the browse itself. So right now I am on this safari browser, you'll notice that it's the same image. I'm just going to simply take this image, and I'm gonna drag it and you'll notice it automatically creates a J pic file there. I want to drag it all the way on to the cameras, just like I did for the desktop image as well, and just drop it in there, and the moment I drop it in the bank. Once again, it's on the canvas, so there are merits and demerits to this. So, for instance, you notice the moment I bring this down on the formatting pane on the right. It no, you notice that it says file in for it says pasted image DOT tiff. So you can manipulate this later as well. You can take this file and copied somewhere else. But by and large for organizational purposes, I mean, if you're working with a lot off assets, a lot off elements, a lot of images and videos, it's always a good rule of thumb to keep good naming conventions to keep everything organized in the fold and so on. It's very difficult to sometimes track certain images, and certain assets means once your project becomes large. So as a rule of thumb, I'm risking unduly this. I'm going to go into my desktop and bring the file that we selected earlier. You go and you notice once I bring that in once again, it just stays on the right side. Leonie Death doc jpg So that's a good rule of thumb, right? So now that we've understand how the different ways that we can bring these images, and I'll go through the edit herbal modes. Israel, Just like any other aspect that we've gone through. There are bounding boxes here. You can just simply click and drag them to make it smaller or larger. Apart from that, you are able to mask out areas in these images as well. So, for instance, let's say I don't need this whole image showcase. I just want let's say I'll zoom in a bit. I just need Lien this unit ass's head on. Only that, um, within the context off this image. So all I do is I was select. While this is selected while the major selected I'm gonna double click on the image. I'm going to make you notice that the bounding boxes themselves have become black and it's a different mood altogether. So I'm gonna bring this down all the way down and you'll notice as some off them disappeared. Same works wherever you can outline whichever area that you want to use, so bring it all the winning of the face and make this the context or constrain it to the proportions that I rich to use. And then once I'm done you notice on the bottom. It gives a small task, but and I'm just gonna say, done. And there you go. It's basically just the face, and I can now manipulate this just like I did the previous images. Now the beauty of this is as we go on to more advanced lessons, you notice that we can do a lot more with these images as well. We can outline them using the pen tool. We can create animations, but that's for a different lesson altogether. Apart from this very simple, very simple change that we did to the image you'll notice on the formatting pane. Once again you have a set of relative options or formatting options that are available to you, for example, on the style you have the general editing capabilities off adding a border. Um, let's come on Z to go back. You can add curb shadows just to give it a little bit more depth and bit more idea. Apart from that, though, you have somewhat basic image manipulation options as well. So if you go into image on the formatting pain, you'll see adjustments which provides you with an option off increasing exposure. Maybe you want a black and white image, you can completely bring down the saturation all you have much more advanced anything an adjustment features that you can think and play around with to get the optimum output. Now, the best part about this is when we do animation, we will look at it in our sample project as well. All of these are most of these features. Most of these options are actually creditable in a timeline. So you can any meat, for example, the capacity shift you can enemy movements you can animate how the shadow represents itself on the emergence. So on there's a lot you can do. I'm going to reset this image to its original context, and I'm gonna leave it there. Apart from that, the same process applies even if you're bringing down a video. Even if you're bringing down audio files as well off course in terms of audio and video, it's about the duration and how much offered on screen that you're going to see. In a more advanced lesson. We will go through the manipulation techniques for video and audio as well, but up until now we've gone through the tool, but and from the next lesson onwards will go into a bit more complex subject matter now that you have an understanding off. How, exactly? Keynote operates in terms of its interface and how to add elements from the next lesson onwards will work on any missions before we go on to our sample project. 10. Animations - Project Overview: In this lesson, we will begin our discussion on animating objects and different elements in your presentation through Keynote Keynote In itself is a powerful timeline based animation tool which not only can be used to enhance and leverage your presentations to make it cutting edge and next level, so to speak, but also a zoo, much as I use it personally to make animations for videos and different introductions as well. The best way to go about this is to actually go through an actual sample. And in this course I have provided you with course content and material, which you can download and think on your own time as well. But what I would like to do in order to go through the different features off animation, which is available to you and keynote, is to go through one sample on emotional introduction, and you can you can try it along with me as well, and we'll try to recreate this particular sequence, which I have created for another instructor for another video for an instructor, right? So what I would like you to do is have a look at this animation, which I'm playing. You can open it up on your end as well. And then we'll go through the different parts of it with this animation or with this slide selected, I'm gonna go into the any meat tab which is on the right most hand, the second option, actually, after formatting and all the way at the bottom off the Spain you'll see build order. So I'm gonna click on build order, and this will open up a separate dialog box on the side. And the very first thing that you will see is different elements specified to you in a certain order with certain effects on the site. Now, we'll go through this in detail a bit later. The reason why I have put this up is I want to show you how this animation works just so that we have a little bit of room. I'm gonna bring this all the way to corner here, and I'm gonna zoom, um, have a screen our canvas, and I'm going to just preview this just so that you have an understanding. Now, this is basically what you will see when this is animated, when it's playing on a screen somewhere and I played once again and you notice how things appear. Eso As Leonidas comes across from the right, he reveals the name and the subtitle. Just Leonid Dust agreed Spartan. And then he becomes bigger after a certain period of time and then wipes the whole thing across the screen and goes out of screen. Um, there are a bunch of things happening here, but this animation, by and large from the get go, has been created in keynote, and there's a lot that we can go through here as well. What we're gonna do in this lesson is to just look at the elements that have been mentioned and then we'll recreate it in the next lesson. A zoom out once again so that then we have a little bit of room to work with, and I'll bring this build order here. Now there are several elements on the screen which I'll introduce you. One is you have an image which is animated. You have one text box which has Helvetica bold and then here another text box with Helvetica light Notice how, since we're in the animation pain on the side, it doesn't show you the options. If you want to look at the options. What you do is you go to format, and then every time you select, you will be presented with the same title formatting options which are available, which we've gone through in a previous lesson. Israel. Right. I'm just gonna go back to an immediate and you know that each of these elements as I'm selecting them on the build order on this right, most on the different window that disappeared. As we do any mission, you'll see a number off them appear. And what these are in chronological order are the actions themselves. So, for instance, if I click on the very 1st 1 Leonidas J. P. G. It will indicate to me on the side that there is built in action build out and it selected build in by select action and build out. There is action later, but there's definitely no build out, Roughly speaking, just to put it in a nutshell, build in action and build out refers to what happens in the beginning, what happens afterwards and what happens in the end. I think of it like a three act structure, so to speak. In this off course, we have this one effect that we have created essentially, what we've said this make. Surely any dust comes from the right hand side and ends at this particular location, and I can preview this action alone and you'll notice how it's coming in. And then it's stopping right there. And then it's connected to the to the scaling and then wiping off completely. This particular option has been given to us so that we can select which form it. It has to be the duration, and so on. All of this will go through the next lesson. Once that is done, I have given any instruction that along with that, as this is moving across the screen, the great Spartan should appear within a certain timeframe once again, coming in from the right to the left. As that happens soon after that, the word Leonidas should come in. Once that is done, you keep a small delay, as you can see on the bottom, about half a second, and then you make sure that the Leonidas image, which is now on the left most site, becomes bigger in scale, effectively 450% in scale than what it's original. Iwas and then, along with that, it moves across the screen. And while it moves across the stream, I want Leonidas and the Great Spartan to wipe out as well. So you have the wipe in effects in the beginning and then the wipe out effects at the end. All of this, combined in sort of a harmonious balance, so to speak, gives us this whole animated effect, which is somewhat cool when you consider the fact that you're making this out of a presentation software. Now in the next lesson, we will recreate this particular animation on its own from scratch, and you will understand how exactly timing plays a critical role in animating on keynote that's in the next lesson. 11. Animations - Designing a Sequence: in this lesson, we will continue our discussion on various animation techniques available to you in keynote . Now, in the previous lesson, we had a look at this particular animation. If I just going to build order here on and play this or preview this if we figured out exactly what's going on in this particular animation, how each individual element is connected to one another and how, in fact on the animation takes place in this lesson, what we're gonna do is we're going to recreate this very animation, this very sequence from scratch. And what I mean by that is from the elements on it to the animation presets, the build in action and out effects as well as you know, putting them all together. Right? So the first thing that I want you to do is since you have this on your course material underneath the material in this particular Siri's had likely to open up the presentation that's provided to you along with this video and on the right, most on the left, most pain rather on the pain where you have the different slides. I'd like you to go ahead and create a brand new slide and we will have a fresh slide, something which is completely blank canvas, and we'll try our best to recreate each of these elements in the previous slight. So the first thing I wanted to do is let's write Lien itis the great Spartan easily. I could copy paste it here. But for the purposes of this lesson, I'll go from the very, very beginning. So the first thing is, I'm gonna bring in a text box. I'm gonna go into the formatting pane in terms off, no change in the text here. And I'm first and foremost going to make this about 100 points in terms of its size. And let's keep it that bold. And I'm just going to write Leonid us like So, uh, I might be tweaking this a bit, So bear with me just so that I can get it to the optimum size. There you go. 75 looks good, and a good rule of time is whenever you have something already built up in terms of size and when you just need to change things here or there, a good thing to do would be to copy pace and then change what it is necessary. So I'm gonna copy Leonidas. That's control or command C command. We to paste ops, command C command V and then I'm gonna drag across and you'll see how it sort off snaps into place. And I want to make this the alignment off this left so that it just starts from the point of where this is going to end. And I want to say the great spot right now. Notice how this is involved, as opposed to other initial version. So I want to make this into light. So in order to do so, I'm going to double click are the triple click on this particular typography set. I'm gonna go under the front and change this to light. Okay, Um, now we removed this slightly by dragging and selecting these two elements. I'm gonna move. It's like towards the left. Will will recreate this slightly a bit more, Israel, and we'll adjust it and tweak it as we go along. But for now, this looks OK. Now, the next thing I want to do is bring in Leonidas. Now, you'd notice here that this is actually one of the original images that we used in our tutorial. Set us well, but it's is shaped in a different way. It's masked, so to speak. Now the way we do this is this is a quite neat trick. Available in keynote Israel under shape. I'd like to take a circle. Um, it will appear right in the middle, and I'll drag it all the way to the corner Very want to. And while holding shift, I'll make this bigger so that I can proportionately make it bigger. Let's make it something like 25 to 20. Something like that. Okay, I'm gonna bring this down, and we can readjust this late as well. Essentially, what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna fill color off this. Now you notice with the circle, you can go into style and maybe change color alone. Right? I'm going to say command Z to go back, but what I want to do is fill this particular circle within the confines of the circle with the face of landed us all the way you do that is, while you have this particular circle selected, going to your desktop and select the image you want. In my case, it's landed us right over here, so I'm gonna drag it all the way into my canvas and you'll notice normally, when I drop it onto the cameras, you see a blue border appear on the canvas itself. However, if I bring it near the circle, you'll see that line disappears. And in this circle, you see a border appears a bit hard to see around because the color is somewhat different, somewhat similar, rather to the back backdrop color off the circle. But when you notice that, just drop it in and the first thing you see is it doesn't label processing and you'll see that it bounds within that particular circle, and the image appears behind it, except for the part in the circle which becomes prominent. Now this off course, just like any other, any other re sizing you can resize it want appears. I'm going to adjust it like so and then simply say that perfect. So that, by and large, is very similar to what we had before. Now I'm going to re adjust this slightly because it has to be started slightly small. It's about 300. Perhaps, Yeah, that should be good enough. I'll bring it somewhere here. Now, I'm gonna tensile this up a bit because it it seems quite flat. I'm an artistic to speaking. It needs to pop out of it. So what I'm gonna do is underneath the circle. Now we're working with the parameters of the circle on the right. Most pain. I'm gonna put in a curbed shadow just to give it that little bit of depth and you'll notice if I zoom in slightly That that shadow has now appeared. If I switch it off, there you go. And now with Shadow, um, I'm gonna keep the offset as it is. Maybe maybe slightly, slightly more rescued at about two, but reduced the A pass iti a bit to about 80%. Mind you, these are our preferences. So it's basically what you would want to see as an end result. I'm a bit pedantic kiss. I'm gonna make it 80%. I'm OK with the angle and what not. So I'm gonna bring this back into a visible place. Right. Okay, so now that we have the three elements, I'm gonna center these things. So to do that, I want to hit command a to select all. And I'm gonna drag until all three elements, according to their positioning assented like so 12. Animations - Build IN Effects: Now what I want to do is if we are to go back into the previous slide and to an emission and build order. What I want to happen, rather is this. I want Lena just to come all the way, wiping the two names in, say for a bit and then make it bigger and then go away to do this. However, there's a bunch of things that we want to do, and it has to happen individually before we connect everything up. So if you'd notice, the first thing that's gonna happen is Leonidas comes from the corner to where he finally ends up in. So let's do that a bit. First, I'm gonna go into our slide here and you'll notice the build order remains the same because I've opened up that window and here I'm going to select Leonid us. And the moment I select Leonid us automatically, the animation pain has the built in action and build out format already ready for me. I'm gonna say add effect and the effect that I want, Um, there are a bunch of effects that you can work with, but the effect that I want is to move in. Essentially, I want Leonie Dust moving from one corner did the other. So if there's a preview here, we can just preview it. So in this case, it's moving from left to right. So I'm gonna click move in and the first thing I'm gonna do is change the direction I want it. I want leading us to come from the right most end of the screen to the left. So I'm gonna click that and then say, right to left and then sit preview. So I've had the direction set up now, but you'll notice it's pretty fast and I want this to happen quite slowly. That's where the duration comes in. So I'm gonna change the duration here to something like five seconds and you'll notice how slowly it drifts into place and then it bounces. I don't want the bounce effect. I if you noticed in our previous version, you see that it comes in slowly and it stops it. It pretty much it's movement fades in at that location. It doesn't bounce. So to do that, I simply select on the you need us. And besides the direction as well as the duration you see there's an option that's his bounce. So I'm gonna speak de Select that so that it doesn't bounce. Okay, so we have the first sort off section sorted out. The next thing that we need to do is make sure Leonidas and the Great Spartan doesn't appear beforehand. I want them to come as legally dust comes across the screen. Now that's the tricky, because that's all about time. And in order to do so, the first thing that I'm going to do is I want to see, like, the great Spartan, because that's the first thing that appear as Leonid us, for instance, goes through as he goes straight. The first thing that would appears the end off Spartan and the sword. So I'm gonna select that when you go back into my build order. And this time, rather than moving in, I wanted to wipe. Essentially, I want things to be wiped into place, so you notice that there are some effects available. There's a bunch of them you can go through in your own time, but I'm gonna select wipe, and when I select wipe, you'll notice that it wipes once again from left to right. That's usually the default off key note again. I'm gonna make it so that it wipes from right to left. And I can preview that, but this seems a bit fast, so I'm gonna change the time into something like two seconds For now, I might have to readjust its, by the way. Okay, that seems like that seems quite good. Nothing else to do here. The next thing that I want to do is after that I want Lea an industrial be in the same exact manner. Eso I'm gonna go. Go ahead. Select Leonid. US build in, wipe from right to left. Um, maybe 1.5 seconds since is a smaller would if I previewed that You notice how it appears as well. So be mindful, by the way, in relation to the content that you're animating as well. If you notice this particular typography, you have one instance where it just has a few syllables, A few letters, another has. It's almost a sentence. It's It's a different phrase all together. So each thing will will react differently to the animations that you provide for it. Ok, right now we have three separate animations. We have Leonidas coming in. And now you notice we have separately, the great Spartan coming in. And then afterwards we have again Leonidas coming in in typographical fall. Now, this is not exactly what we want, right. We want everything to happen consecutively. How sequentially. Now you'll notice under the build order that each element here is separated by a space. The way you connect these is either by dragging and connecting it all, you can simply select whichever element whichever animation that you want to. Um, you want, activate and simply go all the way down here and select how you wanted to start. Now it says on Click, which means if you're playing this animation, you'll click either the mouse click or you'll have a carriage return or a space bar in order to activate it. But if you want it to happen automatically, what you do is you select by what you want to start and when you want to start it going to start and then say I the wit build one off to build one. So in this case, what it's effectively telling us is that we were gonna play the great Spartan, that particular typography either when the Leonidas images coming in or soon after that comes in. Now what I want to do is it ideally has to happen with the first animation. But you'll notice when I do. So let me just create the animation here. So I say with So you notice when I preview it. That's also not the way that we wanted to happen. Ideally, what we want to happen is we want to keep the image until it comes all the way up to end and then slowly started. Now, the way we do that is any animation has a delay factor, which you can add to it as well. So on the bottom, you'll notice it says DeLay. And right now, it zero seconds. So if you put this in tow into very simple terms, effectively, we're gonna tell the system. Okay, Play Leonie Dust or J P. G. Along with that play the great Spartan with a delay off X number of seconds. So in this case, I'm gonna first give it a shot off about one second to see how it works. I'm gonna preview it. Oops. Preview that. That looks quite good. Let's play it again. I think I think that works are pretty well, cause it's exactly the timing that we want, so we'll keep it at one second. Okay, Now, the next thing that we need to do is make sure the word Leonidas comes after the Great Spartan, and that's quite simple. The way we do that is just like we did before. You can either go ahead and say, start after build one. Which means after the great Spartan happens, all simply select and drag it all the way up until you see there's a connection mount there . Now, once you played okay, so you notice that that Leonidas comes in somewhat late right now. This is where the timing tweaks have to take place. Ideally, we need Leonid us to come immediately after the Great Spartan, and it effectively should happen. What we can do in this context is to make sure that the time that Leonidas is a word takes to manifest itself is short. So we're gonna go all the way to the right hand pain and you'll notice we've left it at 1.5 seconds. Let's try reducing it toe one second and see how it books still a bit slow. So what we need to do then is tweak it to a level where we have it's not. It's not too fast that you won't be able to notice it, but it's not too slow either. So one way to go about doing that is we can maybe make the Great Spartan slightly slower. Let's keep it at 1.8 or rather slightly faster around 1.8 seconds. That works quite well. Actually. You can keep playing around with this, and you can tweak it to such a level that the word seem to come in a certain order. Even a slight shift here will provide that for us. Let's try to do that as well. Perfect. I think that works quite well if he previewed once again. So this is all about timing now. This is a specific, pre defined method in which we've created this. It might be a different animation that works for you, and the beauty of it is we are more than capable of adjusting certain elements here even after the animation is done. So let's presume that you've exported this later, something we'll look at in a much more advanced. Listen, however, let's say you've exported this and you realize, OK, I want the phone to be a bit bigger. I want to spacing to be different and so on. You can always come back, do that and re export, and it'll still work. Perfect. Right now let's revisit other previous animation. So in this we've completed part one off it, which is okay, the great Spartan takes place, and then it's supposed to make become bigger and then wipe away. So in the next lesson, what we're gonna do is we're gonna Now that we've created the concept, we've created design and we worked out how the elements come on screen in the next. Listen, we're gonna look at the build out effects or how exactly this animation is going to end. 13. Animations - Action & Build OUT Effects: in this lesson. We're going to continue our discussion on creating the animation that we were doing thus far on Leonidas as appearing from one side and then wiping out his name as well as his description and going towards the other. Now, up until this point, we've created off, designed the animation or rather the the sequence that we want and we've built it in as well. So if we if we watch this slightly, I'm just gonna go to build order here. And if we watch the preview, you notice Leonidas coming and wiping across the great Spartan and his own name and stopping as is now, if we just visit of a baseline or the benchmark that we're working with the previous slide , you notice that the full animation would be that he comes across wipes across the description and his name stays for about a second or two, makes himself bigger and then wipes across the screen once again. So now what we're gonna create are these build out effects, so build in effects are effectively what brings in to the canvas whatever elements which we've done thus far, action effects which we will touch on a bit is what happened after it has come into place and build out effects is what will take place at the end. It's almost like a three act structure. A narrative. Okay, so now that we have an understanding off how exactly this has to happen, we're gonna go in and try to mimic or recreate that by completing this animation with the build out effects, I'm gonna go back to the slide that we've been creating the animation that we'd be making thus far. And the first thing I want to do is complete the animation off, lead us off the image, so essentially make it bigger, and then move across and out after canvas to the right side off the canvas. Okay, So to do that, I'm gonna first of all, select the image and you'll notice the moment I selected Not only within the build order would that particular J peg of the J. P. G. File be selected, but also on the right. Most pain on the animation pain. You see that the build in effects are selected. Now, what I would like to do here is to make sure that Leonidas becomes larger than life bigger , almost cover from top to bottom. The canvas on the way I do that is I'm gonna shift from the build in effects, which we've been working thus far into the action pain, and the moment I go into action pen, you notice that there are no action stipulated. What I would like to do is to make limit us big. He needs to expand any skill needs to get larger. So I'm gonna add a new effect and you notice that the actions available much less than the build in. And as you would see the build out effects later as well. Now, from this list, I'm gonna take one of the basic effects, which is to scale. Um, you need us the picture. So I'm gonna select that, and by default, you'll notice that it will slowly become bigger. And what's most interesting is you see two aspects here because we've added this effect. You notice the image right in the middle and what it would become upon any meeting. So if I previewed this, that's what's gonna basically happen. And we need this much, much bigger, and the way we control this is on the right pain. As soon as we've selected scale, you you see duration how long this is to happen and the scale, how big this is to become. There are few other effects, such as easing in the animation as well, but we won't go into that at this point. What I'm gonna do is I'm gonna adjust the skill to fill in the entirety off the screen. Something like that. Now you notice it goes across the board, it goes across, um, it goes across the pivotal points off the canvas itself. So, ideally, if I play this now, you'll notice how it becomes extremely big. Now, this is just stage one. So one off, the things that needs to happen is for it to become bigger. I can obviously change the duration here, and just to test it out, I'll make it, let's say two seconds and enter to confirm. And then I'll preview that. So it's taking two seconds in order to become big. But for the purpose of of our animation, I'm gonna leave this at one. You notice why I'm doing so after I do this? Now that I have this one particular animation in place and I can preview it one last time to see the next thing that I want to do is I want this particular image or whatever that has expanded now to move across the screen and go back to where I came from, which is the right most side of the canvas. Now, to do so, we're going to do what is known as, um, build out effect, which is also an addition to this particular scale effect. Now, the effect that we're gonna work with is going to be compounded one after the other. And what I mean by that is we want these two things to happen simultaneously in a specific way. Now, the way in which that happens is you notice under action. There is an option that says add action. So these are compounding effects. I'm gonna add an action here, and the action that I want to add is move. I want this to move across the screen and out from the right side. So I'm gonna click on move and you'll notice by default it will go a certain distance. But that isn't enough, obviously. So the way we go about this, unlike in scale is we're gonna actually select the secondary image, which is duplicated on screen here. This is just showing the part that it's gonna take and you'll see a red line that's going across screen as well. So I'm gonna pick up on that and I'm gonna move it all the way and you'll notice how, even if I'm moving up and down, it was snapped where I wanted to moving all the way to the corn. Now, if you feel that screen real estate, it is not sufficient. You can simply zoom out a bit and you can utilize the screen. So I'm gonna do that right now. If I preview that, you'll notice he just moves across. Well, will make the duration of how long it's gonna take slightly longer. Let's about three seconds. Maybe about two seconds. Bit too slow. I feel, um, speaking about two seconds and preview that as well. There you go. Now, by and large, we have much off of animation sorted. We haven't going across, but I want this to happen consecutively and in a certain order. So as we looked at in the previous lesson, what I'm gonna do is first I want to skill to happen soon after the wiping effect as at least with a slight delay. And then along with that, I want the movie effect to happen as well. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna drag the scale and you'll notice it's a scale on the right. I'm gonna drag it and connect it to have a previous set. And then I'm going to say for it to happen after to start after everything else has come into place. But I wanted to stay that I wanted to scale soon after about half a second, I wanted to stay as it is for half a second and then only do the scaling aspect. Once that is done, I want to connect the move to that set as well. Now the difference here is I want the move toe also happen simultaneously with the scaling . So I'm going to say with build four. Now we've built four beating built for as in the scale. So let's test this out for now. So we see Leonidas coming into frame and wiping. All of that is about half a second and it becomes began, goes off perfect. That's exactly how it should happen. So we're OK with timing were okay with the order. Order of which it happens. And there you go. So now the only thing left for us to do is to make sure that along with Leonidas going across the screen, we need the name and the description to wipe off Israel. Now, the way we do that is to reconstruct how we brought them in. Essentially, we wiped them in from right to left. So we need to wipe them out from left to right. Simple. So with that said, since we've gotten everything sorted thus far, I'm gonna come on s and save this. Always make sure you do. So whenever you're doing sequence base animations, I'm going to select Leonidas, and I'm gonna zoom slightly in here and you'll notice all of our previous aspects go off on Lee. When you select the relevant item, you'll notice that those animations come up. So I'm just gonna select Lee any dust, and I'm gonna go ahead and on the right. Most pain. I'm gonna go with build out effect. So build out, as I noted earlier, is pretty much the inverse off built in. It's just taking everything out off it on. And I'm gonna recreate what we looked at in build in, but conversely so I'm gonna add a new effect. And the effect is wipe and the way I won't wipe is from left, right? It's it's done it already for me. And right now, if I preview this, it's effectively just one second indeed, wipes across. Same thing we're gonna do for the Great Spartan as well build out effect at an effect and then wipe from left to right. Okay, Now comes the interesting and the fun part about putting everything together, so you'll notice that these two are isolated. I'm gonna connect this once again, just like before to Leonidas J P. G. Which is. I wanted to be connected to the set all ticket, and I'm gonna connect this as well, and then we'll sort of create the final animation sequence. Now, these last two things that have been mentioned here, they need to happen along with the scaling and the movie. It should not happen after these to take place. So I'm going toe select Leonidas, which is the word, and I'm gonna make it so that it's wit build for as soon as this starts. And the next one, the Great Spartan as well I'm going to say again, with build for what we will do do, however, is in terms off Leonidas, because you don't know what it's a slight gap when we do the animation where it sort of opens up slightly later. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna slightly delayed this by about 0.2 seconds out or 200.2 seconds. Rather. So if I preview this and we might have to change this a bit, let me just zoom out slightly and then move this build order. Let's preview this so it opens up and it brings into the frame okay, so you'll notice how there's a fairly in terms of our animation. You notice how both the Great Spartan and Lena does happen to get the reason why is because we've made sure that the animation takes place to get so rather than making it happen together, we need to nest or connect to different animations. Let me explain, Leonidas, which is the first word, needs to start soon after this scales up, which is fine However, the great Spartan needs to take place after Leonidas. So I'm going to recreate Connect that to reconnect that to after six after six, meaning the word Leonidas. Now let's played and see. So it comes into frame. It will become larger and wipe across. Okay, Um, by and large, we've got half off. It's sort of the one. Last thing do is the great Spartan and the reason why it's taking time. It's primarily because it's gonna have, um, it's a bit too slow in order to go ahead. So I'm going to reduce this timing to about half a second, and it's previewed again. This is more often than not a trial and error method toe. Figure out how well the timing should work and so on. Okay, um, let's try to adjust. A bit more may be reduced to delay as well. Okay, um, the the whole premise off, Um, this working in this way, rather, is that you need to have a system in place where you can do this on enough trying to figure out whether if at all, the animation timing works out for you, Perfect. So that, in essence, is how you work out the timing so that the animation falls into place. Even now, I see little gaps. For example, when you're preview this where Leonidas starts to fast so you can obviously adjust those little nitty gritty ease by. For instance, Leonidas, we can make the duration ISS 0.7 seconds. That way, even that little gap that exists goes above and beyond. There you go. Perfect. Okay. So that by and large is how from scratch you develop the design for a particular slide deck off vertical slideshow and the new animated in such a way that it comes into the foreground and then goes out. This is a great way in which you can create an introduction, for example, for any face to face video that you're creating, or even just for any presentation. Israel. Now that we've gone through animations, we've gone through design and the basics as well. In the next lesson, what we're going to do is showcase how this particular animation can not only be exported as a keynote file, but also as a separate video which you can take into, um, other applications like, for example, video editors like Premiere Pro, Final cut or even a movie, for that matter. That's in the next lesson. 14. Exporting - General Formats: in this lesson, we're gonna round off our basics into keynote Acela's animation and the slides that we worked on thus far. By looking at what formats and how exactly you can export what you've created now, by and large, many off you might be using whatever the techniques that you learned today through this course, to make presentations, to do pictures in front of plants or customers or just in your society or among friends and family, for example. But apart from that, the whole premise and the purpose of keynote is that you are able to leverage what is essentially a very powerful tool to do many different things. And therefore, by working off this fact by default, keynote provides for you a number of different ways in which you can export your creation. We're gonna look at a few off them. Starting from lets its simplest too much more complex things that you can do with exporting off content that you've created. Now, if you are following along with the material provided to you in this course as well, make sure you open up the relevant keynote file, which is available on the course summary page and you notice that immediately on your slide deck. Unlike before when I was going through different other aspects. You have everything that we worked on thus far from the table that we created to the charts , to the typography, to the shapes, media. And finally, the animations that we created, Um, the original one as well as the duplicated that we sort off mimic the original one with right. The reason why this is there s so that I can show you the different types of exporting options. Now, what I'd like you to do and identify is exporting goes to a different level altogether. You've completed your work. So the first thing that you do once you've completed your work after you've saved it off course, is to go up into file and then you see export to and you see a number of different options that you are able to export into. We won't go into everything here, but whatever its salient and whatever is necessary on a day to day basis, considering the fact that these basics to keynote, we will look at now. The beauty of this is whichever one you click here. Let's a pdf In this case, it will open up one static dialog box right up in the middle, called Export your presentation, and you see different tabs which are presented to you. So we look at each one in turn. The first option that we just clicked on, which is available to you is pdf. Ideally, once you've created whatever content, you can convert it into a pdf file, something that you can mail and what I would consider as being the widest. In terms of compatibility, you can simply create this into a pdf Emmett to anyone it's it's accessible, and it can be open on many devices, if not any device, for that matter. Now you notice there are few few options provided to you here. I will not go into detail, however, in terms off the options provided you can include. Let's see if you have notes included on your presentation, you can have different stages appear differently. For example, in our Leonidas animation, you'd recall that we have different stages. It builds in, there's an action and builds out. You can export slide separated to each page. You might have skipped certain slides like you would have seen in previous lessons. You can include those kip slides as well without having to go back into the presentation and unskilled ping those, um, let me just de select over that. You can also determine the quality off the image. Now, this is quite important in terms of its compression, primarily because if you're emailing something, going for the best quality might not be the most suitable idea, because there are limitations not just in sending large fires, but also receiving if you have company accounts. If you have limited access, your administrator might have reduced, um, the number off bandwidth that you're provided with. So this is there for that purpose. More than that, you can actually secure your pdf by adding a password as well. You can create a password, which you can later on, sent to whoever the recipient is. It just basically works out as if you'd create a normal PdF through another application, such as Adobe Acrobat, for instance. Okay, so that's option one. The second option is PowerPoint, so you might be familiar with Let's call it keynotes cousin on the Microsoft Windows platform, which is PowerPoint now, PowerPoint as well is quite a powerful tool in itself. And you might want to send this document the dot pages document as something that's accessible and irritable on a different black phone. Namely, that off PowerPoint. So here as well. Just like pdf, you can add a password, but more than that, you can make this reverse compatible as well. The more modern version of PowerPoint provides a doc PPT X format. You can always select something that is that is old as well. The dot PPT format that's up to you to do now the next one. Before I go into movie, I want to go into images just to show you an output in that context, So images is much like pdf. The difference being PDF will make one solid document imagers won't do so. It'll ideally export all off them as separate images onto a particular fold. You can upto either go with the entire set or you can select a range of images either from pages 4 to 7 or from 1 to 7. And so on. Um, here to just like a pdf, you can export different slide decks by worked you off the build order, so it landed us you can build Leonidas coming in a little export on its own and so on. You have an option of selecting different formats by default. It goes to J pick high resolution. But again, if you're emailing someone you might want to use a smaller fire size, you might want to use PNG if you have a lot off images which have no Phil, so it's it's a transparent background. PNG works well for those or maybe even higher resolution. Like Tiff, I feel into photography and so on. Okay, the most interesting one here, the one that is most relevant to us in terms off. What we created in terms of the animation because we want to see moving images, is that of a movie. Now what movie does is essentially, it exports this presentation as a video, and it's an auto played video. What I mean by that is, if you don't have any animation, let's say the ones that are their previous to the Leonidas animation have no animation whatsoever. It's just one slide after the other. If you have something like that, you can literally export it so that every five seconds the slide changes. Um and it will be exported into a one minute door. However, number off, um, slides that you have, so that's quite perfect. If you just want something to loop, let's say you want to create something that's playing at an event, maybe sponsorship banners or something to that effect. You simply plunk in the advertisements into different, slight and then exported as a movie with Maybe, let's say, it's cycling every 10 seconds. Similarly, you have this concept of Goto next build. This is when you have an animation, but each animation is on a click event, so it's not like we've set up it to be automatic. But there are some animations. You can make it so that it only takes place if you click or press a button. So in such situations you can make it so. The that either happens every two seconds, all of unused zero automatically. Again, it says, timings apply only to click it. Um, apart from that, you have the resolution, how you want to output This too. You can have the basic HD or the full HD, which is denoted by 1080 p, or you can customize the size that you want it as well, as well as the export format for Wyness compatibility. I always recommend the H 264 format because that provides something that can be accessible across the board. You might need to edit it later, but compatibility wise, that's where you're at. 15. Exporting - Exporting Video: in this lesson, we're gonna look at a very special way in which you can export your animations or your creation, which could then later be used in other applications such as Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro. Even I movie, for that matter. Now, if you'll recall and I'll replay. This is Well, um, of the animation that we did in a previous lesson off Leonidas coming across and then, you know, wiping across the screen. Once again, we are able to export this on its own as a video file, which can be played on multiple platforms and incorporated into other videos as well. Keynote, by and large is a great way and a supplement or substitute, for that matter, for other, more complex animation systems. Nonlinear editors. Israel such as, for instance, after effects. So the way we do this is after having designed and done up your animations, select only the slide that has the animation. You might have a multiple set as well. That's completely fine. But another example. There's only one, um, you go up in to file export to just like, usual and in select movie. Now from this, if you checked out the previous lesson as well. The general premise is that you can specify certain aspects of this. What we're gonna do is, since we don't have any click events in this animation, um, we're gonna just select five seconds. We're gonna keep the defaults here, and I'm gonna go ahead and select the resolution as 1000 ADP. That gives us full. Actually, um, there's a limit of her description that's provided on where this would work as well. But by and large, it would work pretty much on any platform. You can email these or even what set them, for that matter. If you really want to showcase your work on YouTube or anywhere else once that is done, all you do is you say next. Um and it'll pop up another dialog box where you get to select where you want, um, your sort off output. So in my case, I'm gonna go with the course that we went with, and I'm going to select somewhere outside here. Let's go to exporting. And you basically set up a name that you want. So in this case, let's call it Lian, lead us in true animation, and then once that is done. You simply see export and it will go ahead, open up a tiny dialogue box and then export out your movie. That simple as that Once this is done, all you do is you open up finder and in find it would have sent out the final output. And this is where it is and it outputs an impact. Four file. So it's it's quite widely compatible. And if we just previewed this by hitting the space bar, you notice it just plays the animation that we created, um, quite fluidly quite nicely. And you can now incorporate this into anything at all and just to just a point of note. You notice that before the animation starts as well as soon after it finishes. And we take this to the beginning and played once again. There's about five seconds in terms of a gap, Um, two seconds in the beginning, and then five seconds in the end. That's just a buffer that Kino provides you based on on the default setting. So if I had zero for those two settings initially, it would just start an end immediately, so to speak. Okay, so that by and large, is how you can export a video into, ah, full the structure into your system from keynote. In the next lesson, we're gonna look at how we can export the entire presentation and how we are able to were it on other platforms, including a mobile device that's in the next lesson. 16. Exporting - Exporting to Mobile: in this lesson. We're gonna look at how you are able to export the keynote file that you've been working on that we've been working on in this course to a mobile device, in this case, an iPhone and IOS device. Now, the way we do this is, quite simply, um, on the top, most pain off your screen. Each particular application has its own individual task bar. Go up to the keynotes, tasked by and all the way at the top. It says share. So once you click share, it will have a specific selection Racists in the copy in order to send a copy. There are multiple ways in which this can be manifested. You can send messages. You can upload it direct to YouTube in case of video and so on. But what we're gonna do since we want to send it to a mobile device, we're going to simply select airdrop. And this is the fastest way of getting this done. Um, once you click on air drop, you'll be presented with a multiple set off options or forms that you can export it. We want to do so on keynote specifically because the iPhone now comes Ah, pre built or pre included with keynote as much as other applications like pages and numbers and so on. So I'm going to say next here, in the moment that happens, a small dialog box will appear. And on that dialogue box it will showcase whatever devices are available for airdrop. Now, in this case, my iPhone is specifying here. So what I'm gonna do is I'm simply going to, um, press my face or click my face. So once the airdrop is completed on your phones and you'll be presented with options to open this with now, since we have keynote preinstalled in the iPhone, which it usually is now all I'm gonna do is select keynote, and it's gonna automatically open up the keynote application. And Walla, we are given the same output on the outlook that we had on other computer as well. So each slide as you can see is visible. Not only is it visible, you can actually plate as s, So if I play for example, the animation that we created at the very end, you notice how once I click event, it will play the animation accordingly.
