1. Introduction: Welcome to the cast. I am signed my job as an online educator and a self taught illustrator. I'm excited to be a part of the skill Shia community to share what I've learned so far in this class. Will designed imagines using different tools off Illustrator I also share the technique of creating a pattern tile for a seamless baton. I hope the process is going to be simple and straightforward. We are going to test our time and will apply different color combinations to it. The classes for all those who are familiar with illustrator interface and its basic tools. So let's get started with our first pattern in Illustrator and head on to the next video. 2. Creating a Basic Pattern: So let's begin with a new document of any size going to the preferences. I'm inject the anti realized artwork. Now I'm going to create a simple pattern. Using an Elop stool, which is located in the tune spanning, you need to hold shift to make a perfect circle, just giving it a backfill and no stroke. I'm going to duplicate it by selecting edit to copy and based in place. This will give me an identical copy of the Circle drone, decrease its size and give a white Phil and no stroke. Now that we've created artwork, we need to group these elements by selecting them and going to object group in order to save it, simply click and drag to the sorters fan. A new pattern. Swatch is created in the sort of spending giving the original artwork to one side create a new rectangle, as that often are more size to apply up back in storage and click on it. The rectangle is no food without patron, but one thing that I want to mention here is that if I drag, the patrons watch from the swatches panel, also bring the original artwork close to it and seeing dark Ein Mord. Well, just notice that there is a box around a patron swatch. This is a rectangle of border, actually defining an area around it, so to control the space around it, we'll draw a rectangle or a time behind artwork with northen and no stroke. Keeping this in mind, I'm going to create a pattern of black strives with a line segment tool, so selecting it from the stools panel and holding shift to draw a perfect vertical straight line as that of the height of the art boat, I have increased its stroke and assuming that a patron is created using strokes, we need to expand it so object but outline stroke. I'll draw a rectangle with a rectangle tool to form the basis off a pattern time and giving it a Nofal and no stroke. Either Jews object, arrange, send it to back, are simply right, click and arrange it, sending it to back off all the elements. Now we're going to align it both horizontally and vertically, with G object selected in the line spanning. So, like both of these and click and drag to create another battles. Watch now, just we are going to keep it aside and the best are reserved. We'll draw a new rectangle with a rectangle tune and click on newly created patron Sorge. And here we go with black stripes Pattern made an illustrator in order to get the diving aligns press are for the rotation tool and press enter to get a dialog box entering the value off the angle and inject transform objects. And here we go similarly press s to get the scale toe and press enter to get the dialog box and enter the value to scale it up or down as you wish to do so. So we are able to create a pattern in a simpler way and just explore the other ways in our next videos. 3. Creating Motifs (Part I): we can create our motives using any of the illustrator tools. So let's get started and choose the brush tool from the tool spanning. The stroke is highlighted and just give a random stroke and grab the rotation tool click months to set a reference point and press all shift drag or auction ship and drag to duplicate it. Now to repeat the same action, press control de or command E several times to complete our motive. Jews Object group to group the elements. I'm decreasing its size. One way to get access to patron options is to go to Windows, Select Veteran options and make patron apartness Watch has been added in the swatches spending. We are now in the pattern budgeting more. I can come here down at the bottom of the pattern options plan to dim the copies and see my original group elements in the center. I can also check the copies section and began set to three by seven seven by seven five by five, and simply click done. We can delete it, but I'm just want to keep it to one side. Now to create another motive, I'm taking the rounded rectangle to from the tool spaniel to draw the shape with blacks will and no stroke and using an eraser tool to erase a certain part from the shape. And interestingly, I'm going to create a pattern out of these elements on decreasing its size a bit. So selecting both of these go to object group and choose object veteran make options done to save it and create any object to apply this pattern. This pattern has no background, so it's been applied, and now we'll see that this pattern has no background. So click on the parents pan, highlight the feel there, click onto the new film icon to duplicate it and choose a random color from the swatches Ben and drag this for live beneath the original one. And that's how we can get a background to our design pattern. Battles can be applied to a closed part and to an open path such as a stroke. So let's see. What do I mean? Take a line segment, too, and simply draw a line segment and increase its weight and the stroke still selected. Click onto the pattern Sorge, and it's applied to the straw. Now I'm going to create a pattern brush. So dragging out my pattern storage onto the art board and to open up the brush band, go to the windows. Men and Jews brushes are elements still selected. Simply drag and drop it off in the brushes panel. Click OK as a patron brush now creating a rectangle with stroke only and North Phil and click on our new patent brush. And here it's applied as a border for best results. Try to use Phil Pattern to fill objects and brush patterns to outline objects. See you in the next video as I'm going to create more motives using a basic shape. Oh! 4. Creating Motifs (Part 2): Welcome back. Now I'm going to create a diamond shaped pattern, so let's take a rectangle to and hold shift to draw a perfect square off any size with black fill and no stroke. Now rotated and click onto the scale to make sure the reference point is in the center of the shape. Now read the uppermost Noto uppers, and the shape will alter itself into a diamond shape to set its bounding box. Go to object, transform, reset bounding box press, old shipment drag to create copy. And I'm going to make more copies to form a group, selecting all and resize it or decrease it size and select object Patron make. We are inside the baton editing. More great option will be available at City for time type, and we can change toe any other options available. And the new pattern has been added. I can go by Hex my column. I can go by any other option, and even I can modify the width and height off the tile. So by entering our values, we can create more space. For instance, I've just increased the space around our time type. Simply click done. Now I'm going to test our patents wars by creating a rectangle and simply click on it now to edit my pattern, make sure nothing is selected. Double click onto the pattern short and we'll be back in the pattern editing mode. So I'm going to assign a different color, simply selected and choose whatever color you want from this watchers ban began also juice eyes tied to work and move without to increase or decrease the horizontal and vertical spacing around the time. And I'm going to save a copy off it. If I like any other color, we can choose it from the swatches panel and save as many copies as you like and simply click done. Now I'm going to take the rectangle tool again. Hold and shipped to drop off it square and her did by holding shift to 45 degrees press, pour shift and drag or option shift and drag to make a copy off it. Now, selecting both of these and choose the shape builder cool from the tools panel and press old or option key and drag to minus the desired area. And so we are left with this kind of a shape, so I'm going to make a back amount off it, and it's been added now in the swatches fandom. At this stage, I can even dry out, duplicated by pressing all shift or option check and drag and reducing its capacity. When you're happy with the results, I can save a copy off it. Even I can change to any odd Akala so I can save as many copies as I like. Now I'm going to create a baton using a right angled triangle, create a perfect square and use delete anchor point tools from the tool spanner to delete an anchor point. So we are left with the right angled triangle, creating more copies and re sizing its size, selecting all and make a pattern out off it. I can try out different options. I can go by brick by column or any other option. We can change the offset values by selecting you with the selection tool. You can increase its size. We can rotate it, we can produce the capacity and save a copy off it. And doing for the modification will save another copy for us if you wish to do so. So simply click done. Now we can test our patents, watch by creating an object and simply click on it and dry out different baton sorters here , make sure nothing is selected. Double click onto the patterns. Watch, and we'll be back in the pattern editing mode. We can transform it in any off the waves. We can scale it up and down began to replicate it. I'm rotating it, and by selecting one off our elements, we can press all shift and drag, duplicated and assigning a different color. We can add or subtract one off our elements into a selected tile and create more versions as we like. At any point you wish to save it, then you don't need to click down. Choose save a copy and it will be saved as a new version in the shorter span. 5. Exploring Adobe Pattern Library and Creating Complex Patterns: in a straight also provides us the building patrons. We can get access to it by clicking onto this icon and Jews open swash library patrons Choose any off the options here, for instance, I'm going to choose decorative legacy. Click one by one to choose them, and they are going to be added into the swatches Spanish. Now we are going to create a rectangle to apply these patterns. Watchers. We can transform these we can use the scale to. If you want to scale it down or we can scale it up, we can enter ah, higher value. Using the bare in Spanish and duplicating the filia. Simply click on so they're saved back in soldiers and we can play around with different settings and combined them to make more complex patterns as we like. So thanks for watching hope that you've learned from the class. See you soon 6. Creating a Pattern Tile for a Seamless Pattern: welcome back in this class. We are going to create artwork and identify a square or a rectangle area for a repeating pattern and finally crop everything else out to get a tile that we can save it as a patron . Swatch. I'm going to use grades. So let's begin and create a document off 1000 pixels by 1000 pixels in Illustrator, Go to the preferences and select guides and Great and set it 200 fixes and then subdivisions Joe's view to enable the option show Great and snap to grid. Now press control are or command are to show rulers in order to get a central point. I'm going to drag Ah, horizontal and a vertical guide with the help off an ellipse stool with black fill and no stroke breast shift to draw a perfect circle off 400 pixels by 400 pixels. Now duplicate this by pressing old shift and drag or option shift drag, selecting board off these and duplicate again Select All and Jews spot find abandoned from the Windows menu. Two. United into one ship. I'm going to resize it by entering the values off for 40 pixels off width and height in the transform spaniel and position it so that it just touches the edges off. The guides now selected and make three more copies and positioned them into the respective sections as shown. I'm going to assign a different color to each off the circles to get an idea as to what we're trying to achieve. So I'm going to create a rectangle with a rectangle tomb off the same width and hide as that often on board and giving it a color, too. Align it to the article and send it to back. Now select all the elements and Jews object group. At this stage, it's a good idea to duplicate your artwork, but I'll proceed further. I'm going to drag more guides to get the exact center off each off. The elements now hold shift to create a perfect square on top of these grouped elements, off for 20 pixels by 4 20 pixels, and we can check this Britain height in the transform Spanish now select the guys one by one, or use shift key to select them and delete right away because we never saved a pattern that contains guides. However, if there are any strokes in the design, we can choose object path out kind straws to convert all the strokes toe outlines. Now I'm going to select the group elements and the top most rectangle and opt for crop function in the Pathfinder banner. The crop function will completely remove the areas off the pattern outside the repeating time. So it's not a good idea to use clipping mask to create a pattern tile because everything hidden by the clipping mask will be included in the swatch, thus leaving with lots off, unwanted by its space. So this is a patron tight now to create a seamless back. I'm going to select my are bored with er bakun and resize it accordingly to the wit and hide off my patent time. Now zoom out a little bit and selecting the design rest all shift and drag to duplicate it and make more copies and arrange manually to show how a patent tile works. Rent. It is repeated. It gives us a nice, seamless baton without and you get. I hope you've learned something new from this lesson. See you in the next class 7. Using Re-Colour Artwork Tool: We can also arrange manually by making several copies off it. But to define a pattern, I'm going to choose object pattern mink. Ah, patents watch has been added in the swatches ban. We can play around with different settings and began saved. Several off are edited copies in the sort of Spanish great option is available by the fort . Try to save a copy first and then edited. Let's edit the design and give different shares off green by selecting its individual parts with the selection to save a copy and press OK, you can see other options, too, and save as many copies as you want named. The pattern and click Done. We can delete it, but I'm keeping it to one side. And to test our patents watch, create a rectangle as an object and click on the back. It's watch and we can also see are edited copies off the same design. We can scale it down by selecting the scale toe press enter to get the dialogue balls and uncheck, transform objects and click OK, so here we are with different versions off the same design Re Connor artwork tool is a powerful tool in illustrator, as we can experiment with different God of groups and produce many virgins off the same design to use it. Selector artwork. First, we can either choose edit, edit colors, re color artwork or click onto the artwork to from the control spanning. Click on with this arrow to get a desired color group and click on this death to randomly change the color order. Make sure they are signed, more is selected and review is checked to see the desired results. If we choose edit, we can see the colors we've assigned to. Our artwork is represented by thes circles. Click OK when you're happy with a certain color, and that version will be saved in the swatches panel. We can also get access to the recall artwork tool from the color Guide panel, Jews a group of color and click on the icon, and we'll get the options now and we can have as many versions as we like. We can also go toe edit ended colors and Jules just got rebellions and make sure the previews own and move the sliders to get your desired result and click OK 8. Class Project: Now that you've learned the technique of creating a pattern time, I encourage you to create your own style, using basic shapes to make a seamless baton. You can follow the steps shown in the previous video. The process is quite simple. All you need is to open a new document, create a great based design and use part. Find the crop function to get a pattern tile. These jail you're working posted in the class project. I'm excited to see your bathrooms. I hope you have enjoyed the class and learn something new. Please leave a review so that others can discover it. Thank you so much that you're joined in and see you in my other upcoming classes.
