About This Class

This course is aimed at those with absolutely no prior experience in AutoCAD. It is also helpful to those who may have learned the software in the past but forgotten how to use it.

The course is designed to get you up & running with AutoCAD quickly by teaching you the things you need to know without long-winded explanations of techniques and commands that are no longer used.

As a CAD engineer with over 25 years of industry experience, I have taught many people to use AutoCAD over the years. I still use CAD software every day on major engineering projects and am shocked when I see the items still being taught in schools, books, and other online courses.

You do not need to enroll on a 2-year course, read a 500-page book or enroll on an online course that is over 15 hours long. Much of this is padding to make the course look more comprehensive by teaching commands that nobody actually uses in the workplace.

AutoCAD can have a reputation of being complicated but much of this is down to the fact that so many are teaching out of date techniques. Also, many of the teaching materials insist on beginning the course by explaining what every single button and command does which is unnecessary and tedious. Other courses like to start each chapter with a new example and this constant restarting means the student never produces anything substantial and easily gets bored.

Over the years I have refined my method of teaching CAD software so that I only teach the techniques that are required and none of the outdated methods that you will never need. My method of teaching is not just to describe each command separately but to get the student up and running early in the course creating a realistic project. This project will grow as different commands are introduced and in this way the student can see clearly how the different techniques are actually used rather than just copying small examples.

Throughout the course I am available should you get stuck to answer any questions you may have.

I look forward to introducing you to this software and getting you up and running quickly.

**Please Note: This course was recorded on the PC version of AutoCAD. If you use a MAC then the commands and locations may vary. I do not have a MAC so am unable to help with this but a quick Google search should help you.**

1. 01 Intro: Hello, Unwelcome to this course. My name is Mike Freeman. I've been using also does products for over 23 years now. Originally, I started on the drawing board being trained in classical technical drawing. But around that time, auto cattles just coming in Andi, I think that was released. 10. I started on originally quite basic compared to the auto cadre health today, and I've used pretty much every version since one right up until article 2018. In this course, I'd like to teach you the basics of Alter Cat, which is enough to get you up and running, allowing you to then go on to one of the more advanced courses or to have confidence to just find your fate on learn as you go. I hope you enjoy this costs. I have a different way of teaching it to other people, which else explain more about in the next chapter. Andi. This seems to have worked well in the countless people have trained over because of my career. So let's get started. And in the next chapter, I'll explain a bit more about the cost 2. 02 Course Structure: Over the course of my career, I've taught a large number of people to use auto cut software. One thing I have noticed is that a lot of the courses and books out there tend to go into too much detail at the beginning, in every single button some books will spend with first to a free chapters going through every single command, telling you what it does to someone who hasn't used cut before. It's no good teaching somebody water Button does. If I don't know why you would do that. The way I like to teach auto cut is to get people drawing as quick as possible by actually creating something and learning as you go. I think it helps understand concepts far better than just learning every single command before you even know what you're supposed to do with it. So that's the way this course is Structured will be drawing this single story office building, starting with basic commands in the model spice such as Line Polly Line, etcetera, and we'll be joining to scale and learning how to use tools to specify certain lengths and angles. We'll find out details such as for Windows and the doors and learn how to create blocks moving on to look at cut standards and why and how we should put things on certain layers and give them certain properties. After that, we'll move on to the paper space and look at how we can turn our model into an actual drawing, which could be published with dimensions and text. This should give you a sound basis to create drawings of your own. They'll also be some more advanced concepts later in the cost, which can really help speed things up. So join me in the first chapter where will begin to look up, creating the main outline of our building. 3. 03 Basic Navigation: welcome to this first lesson in the Beginners Guide to also cut 2000 and 18. So, as I've said before, this course will aim to get you using card as soon as possible. I'm not going to go and talk through every single button on the menu and bore you to death . I want you drawing as quick as possible, but first we do need to go through some specific tools for navigating and basic commands. So, first off the mouse, most people these days will have a wheel mouse. Andi, you need it for all took out. If you don't have one, I highly suggest you go and get one, because it will make your life so much easier. Andi, I'm going to demonstrate how to use that now. So let's just come appear on. Draw a basic rectangle. Click on the rectangle toe Klik wants with the left button. Click again with the left button. Don't worry the size. Anything like that. It is just as an example. So in your mouse you have your two buttons and you well in the center. The left button is remained selection tool, and if you were to hover over this shape now and click it with the left button. What highlights? That you would select it. Press escape to cancel that. Okay, you can also do what's known as a window select. So if you move your cursor to a top left of a shape, click the left button, drag the window down over the entire shape and you'll see as you go over the shape. It kind of highlights and click, and you've selected. Okay, Now press escape to de select it. So we'll do that again. But this time we're gonna draw from the bottom, right to the top. Left. So quick. Left button, no. Is that off? Covering the whole square like we did when we drew from a top left. When you go from this way, you only need to touch a shape to select it. So you can literally just do that. Okay? Un escaped. So this way you have to cool with the whole shape to select it this way. You just need to search Andi. That will be comm useful later on when you have drawings. Very busy drawings. We have different shapes everywhere, and you want to select individual pieces. But That's selection. Okay. Now, while we have this square, we're going to look a basic zooming punning. So use your wheel on your mouse. You come wheeling on, wheel out, simples up, zooming in, zooming out. Now hold down the wheel and keep You'll see the pun icon comes up a little hand keeping it helped down. You can move your mouse, and as long as you keep up, we'll help down. You can have pan around, okay? This zooming and panning you will use all day long. Okay, there, uh, of a views over here So you can zoom extents when you and you can click here. But generally, people, this is what you will use. This is, you know, all day long. It'll be so much quicker. If you zoom in and you want to see the whole picture again, double click. You will. And it will zoom extents that zoom to be extensive. Your drawing again. If you zoom out too far. Sometimes what can happen is you zoom out and you have lost your drawing. Where am I? Where am I? Well, DoubleClick There you go. That's double clicking the mouse. So you've learned how to select something dese. Let any time you stuck in a commander, I want to do so. I just escaped from the keyboard on your compound, holding my wheel zoom in and how little clip wheels in extents. Okay, that's the basic navigation tools and you'll use up all the time. So in the next lesson, we're gonna look a tsum joints and basic shapes. 4. 04 Basic Coordinates: Okay, So before we get onto drawing basic shapes, I just want to talk a bit about coordinates on the coordinate system we use. We used the Cartesian system, which is the X and Y coordinates on dure. Probably used to this if you've if you've used gonna mapping or something like that. But basically, X is very coordinate along the bottom, and why is up beside? We tend to specify the X coordinate first and then the y coordinate. For instance, if we were to draw a rectangle, we would choose this dimension. First, let's say foul. And then we would choose this dimension two fouls, and that's how we would draw it. So you're X is this white under specified first and why is that way And when you're using X and white 00 point is where this icon ists won the drawing. So if you wanted to draw from 00 and you could specify by where it's his first point in the box zero press top zero on that, we'll start you off. At that point, I'm then Ravan specified dimension. You could actually specify a coordinated to finish. Usually, you would use that if you were doing some kind of topographical survey on the coordinate system would be project specific, but that's something to get into late. Don't confuse yourselves in a moment with that. Just remember for now, X is that way. Why is that way, onder? When we draw rectangles of things, give him a dimension on both sides. The art of it, We do it so this side comes first and then that side, okay? 5. 05 Drawing Basic Shapes: Okay, So in this lesson will start drawing some basic geometry and shapes. First, I want you to check. You have these settings on Andi, Don't worry too much about what they're showing. I'll go throughout late, and it will become much clearer later. For now, I just want to make sure they're turned on so that you can follow along to what I'm doing. So this circle here, that should be blow. Okay? And when you quit the arrow, it should be at 90 degrees. This one. That should be blue also. And let's go ahead and turn that one blow on. We want endpoint intersection. I'll do. Okay, so make sure those air on and you will be able to follow along with what I'm doing. Okay, so let's start drawing some basic German tree now appear for simplest of them. All the lying to mount. So left click. I mean, using your curse, I just click anyway in the screen. Okay. Now, if you move your cursor around, you'll see you can use any angle, and in this box, it will tell you the angle, but you're going to draw that line up, so that will be zero. 45 degrees. 92 degrees. Okay. And what you will notice is when you're on 90 degrees, 1 80 degrees to 70 degrees, it will what we call snap to it will kind of find its own way to it and put this green line on. Okay? And that's this command we turned on down here that helped to draw horizontal and vertical lines, which most, most of the time, you do one. So that helped. You can turn it off on you can change the angle if you want to say you want to draw at 45 degrees things like that. But for now, we've got our snaps to 90 degrees. So we drew our lines. So we've clicked once with the left button would cook again. A man you to end a command, you can even right click enter. Oh, you could just hit escape on the cable. Okay? No, remember, we could select by just drawing a window and touching it. Let them on press delete on the keyboard to delete tonight. Okay. So again, we're gonna draw a line. This time, we're going to draw it a certain length, so click anywhere on the screen and then hold it horizontal. Now my joint is set up. Two millimeters I drawing millimeters all meters. I'm in the UK in the USA. It tends to be feet and inches. It doesn't really matter. In AutoCAD drawing units. Onda, a unit to me, could be a millimeter to someone else. It could be feet and inches. Okay, so for the for this demonstration, because it's easier for someone who's used to feet and inches to learn millimeters because it's 1000 when it sees it, I'm going to use millimeters. It's a lot harder for if I did it in feet and inches. For those who use millimeters, believe may. If you're not used to using feet and inches, it's baffling. Okay, so throughout his cost, I'm going to use millimeters. But it's it could be. It could be whatever you want, and we'll go through that later, and I'll show you how between put feet and inches instead and the correct way. But for now, for this demonstration, I'm just going to stick with millimeters. So supposing we wanted our lying to be five meters long, which is 5000 millimeters. We click the start point hold on my house. I'm just hover along this We get a green snap line as long as we're along that with type in 5000. Okay. And that is a five meter long line. Next we want to go going to degrees from up. So we have a nine degrees. It's snapping to the green line. Maybe this is six meters. Our next line we want at 45 degrees. So we're not gonna stop to a green line because that's 90 degrees we're going to instead. And don't try and do it small. Even if it's a small any dry and you may make life difficult, Just drug it right out. Get your 45 degrees. Hold your mouse that typing. What did I say? Let's say free meters for this one. Okay, a man 20 Command, It's escape. Okay, now that's a line command. Next to that, we have a poli line command. So let's click that and I'll show you the main difference. Okay, we're going to just draw just roughly by hand. Don't need to type anything roughly after a similar shape and we can right click into all hits escaped. Finish your command No. Before you click a line, you will see, but it's elects h segment individually. If I was to change this, it would only apply to that segment off the line, even though we drew it at the same time. With a poly line, however, it selects the whole thing. Any edits we do to this apply to the whole line here applies to the that segment only, and that is the main difference between Polly Line on line there are of the differences. You conduce overhead. It's fervor. Edits to appoint live thickness, things like that, which will go over later. But for now, the main difference doors will be a poly line remains just one item on a line. It's multiple certain. Okay, next circle to draw a cynical left click left click in the screen, and that's a circle left look again to finish it, drawing by I us. That's all there is to it. Very, very simple. Now, if we need a circle of sets in size, Jim, really, you would have a diameter or a radius, so you have the option here. Supposing we needed a circle which waas free meters diameter clippers center point typing 3000. That's a free meter. Damage to circle radius. Same except all free meats is now is a radius. Could I? Easy oak. It's just a curved line as it looks on the picture. It's free points. You quit a three point, so one to free. That's Iraq. That's over is to it. Now. If you pull down these hours, you have further options. It's just different ways of joining Arc. I suggest you stick to a basic ones for now, and we'll get into those later. Okay, rectangle again. Easy left, click on the screen. Draw a rectangle square whatever. Click again when you don't joined by I. Easy. If we need a certain size left click on the screen now you will see we have this text box here. We can put in a measurement and remember the coordinate system. Expect X comes first. Why come second? So the first dimension it's asking for is the length in X, which is along the bottom of the rectangle. So if we want a five meters with type five meters, don't press return press tab, and that takes us to the second box. Now let's make about free meters. Okay, I'm now. We have it. And you contest it with this measure tool here. Five meters by three meters. We can draw the loops which again click on the screen. Make it with the size you want. Every time you draw something like this, you will get a text box up to give you a dimension. I'm easy now. I suggest the best way to learn these shapes is just to drop. I could go through every single type, every single style. It would bore you to death the easiest way. So just click on, click on a circle, draw some circles, draw some squares, acts lying's poly lines, awesome ellipses, try and draw some different styles. Different ways off, creating it. You're not gonna do anything wrong. You're not going to change any settings. Polygon Number of sites. Let's say six. Okay, he's grabbed in. Circle around. We'll get. I'll show that later, but click any of them for now. I'm not saying a polygon again. Just click around on for now. Try and draw some random shapes using these commands. What's the best way to learn on in the next lesson will look at some basic modification tools 6. 06 Basic Modify: Okay, so in this lesson, we're going to look at the modify box on. We're gonna learn the basic modified tools again. This will just be a brief overview. Will do more when we actually draw something. But I'll just show you the basic tools to get started. So let's draw a rectangle. So for thirst, ALS is move on and this will move an object basically so quickly object You'd like to move on. It will ask you for a base point. Now the base point is just where do you grab the object from? It can be anywhere. It could be a corner midpoint any way you want. So let's usually if you have nowhere else to go, use the bottom left corner and we have our object snaps on. Remember? So we are snapping. We set this to snap to the end point on the intersection. So here it will snap to the intersection or in point. Same thing in this case. So we have a base point. Where do we want to move it to click again? And that's it. That's a move. Command. So it's move. Select the object. So what? The base point move it unusually when you using this? Okay, you would have another object so you could grab it there and you would move it to that end point. So you actually move it to somewhere? Okay, let's move. Now. Copy works in exactly the same way. The only difference is it's copying rather than moving. So the original stays where it waas and you create a copy, but you grab a base point and you put it somewhere exactly. Resembles a move. Command. Okay. Tight again. Slightly objects again. Sort the base point. Andi. It's just rotate. And again these angles, his green lines, he snaps will come on and help you all. You can type in an angle so you could typing 45 degrees on it will rotate it around the base point 45 degrees. Okay, Um Mira. Slightly object instead of a base point. It wants a line. It wants a mirror line to mirror it across. So if you want to mirror image it over this line, then you will select two points on that line. Now, do you want to raise the original? I'll keep the original. So let's keep the original. Probably No A very good example of a mirror because it is just a rectangle. So I'll just show you again, maybe draw something like Okay, so, Mira, select the object and you can slept as many objects as you want. Merrill line is, uh could be it don't have to be The end of the line. Could be anywhere. As long as it's on my line. Every subject? No, I'm a of a mirror image. Okay, so that was a mirror scale. So say it a rectangle. And you just wanted to make it bigger. Quick, Real Jack face point. So what, you want to scale it around now? Scale isn't really It's not a good idea to use it with the mouse moving a mouse. You do want to type in a an actual factor for this scale factor. So if you wanted it twice as large typing too. I'm There you go. You can also find out. You can scale it to a specific dimension. So what do I mean by that? Well, this drawn, accurate rectangle first, So this rectangle will be 1000 by 500. There we go on. So far like varies 1000. Suppose we wanted that to be 2500. Well, we could scale it by 2.5. Oh, we could quick scale based point. Now, down here, whenever you do a command, if there's multiple options, it will ask you which one which option you want to do. And if you look, the capitalized letter is the command. So if in this case we want to use reference a reference dimension, which is this so it's capital are select reference length. It's battling for and now specify new length. 2500 come there ago. So what we what with amaze? We've scaled it, and we've told it this reference length here, which is now 1000. I want it to be 2500 it's been it for us, so I've actually easier. If it's not. If it's, ah, certain distance and it's Robin do a calculation. If you double the size, you just typing to scale reference of to again. In that case, it probably would have been easier to talk in 2.5, but it could be wanted to fill an actual dimension on the drawing, and you just click those two points again was Marvel one way to achieve the same result, which is the same for lots of commanding. Cut. No a command you'll use a lot. Is this one officer which does exactly as you can probably guess. So first it asks you for the dimension before you slept An object. It asks you for a dimension. So I want to offset this 1000 first return. Now select the object outside all that side. Let's go. OK, so that's offset. Something to watch out for here. Remember of a pulley line when you slept? Upali line. It selects fall of it. So if you want to click offset, it would offset the whole line. Okay, It was just something to very much and same as anything else. Right? Click, enter or escape to get onto the common. One thing you can do if if you drew up Polly line and you wanted it to separate it into individual lines, we have explode. Click, explode, Clearly object, right click. No, you have exploded that into its individual component parts, and you can use that on anything. So rectangle explode and now it's falling. It's not a rectangle anymore. You can slip it multiple objects slightly. Objects first explode. Now you've got lots off individual blinds. Explode is a very useful command, but it's also quite dangerous in certain situations. Sometimes it's better to leave it as of poly lines. So you have control. Fitness is and things, um, certainly never exploded, Hotch, but we'll get into that later. And then we have this, which is a race. So these, as you would expect, click on that slightly object. Oh, slightly object click. It's the same. It's just pressing the delete, but and I think, Well, leave modify commands there will get tomorrow those as we actually draw something. I don't want to confuse you too much, but their basic ones. Okay, so again, have a play about those. Get used to the basic modify command Best way toe. Just have a play about draw some random shapes, rotate them American, got being moving, and I'll see you in the next lesson. 7. 07 Project Overview: Okay, so now we can get into the actual drawing on, create our project. So if you downloaded the resource file, you should have the pdf showing our room layout with the dimensions. What should look like this? Okay, now, anyone who does count for a living, you may do that after this course. This is a kind of markup you would dream about. I mean, this is already and cut, so chances are you would join it anyway. What you tend to get given often engineer or a civilian is a piece of screwed up paper, some rough sketch. It's probably got his dinner on it. It's got coffee stain on it. You can't read any of the text. It's just a mess. Usually, I mean, you would dream of getting remarkable likeness, but for the purpose of our example, this is what will use. So it's a single storey building, rectangular external walls. It's 20 meters by 10 meters, and we have seven rooms and a reception. Single dolls at 900 wide main entrances to double doors, 1800 white on being turned walls or 100 thick on the external walls. I think freely fic some of the windows here to meet along. This is just basic, very basic Usually detail the door frame and things, but this is just an example. So I tried to keep a simple possible and we've got our lights there Well out of the end. So what we're going to do is going to stop by drawing the outline of the external walls fitness. Then we're going to have the internal walls to the correct dimensions. A lot of doors and windows hatchet in that delights which would be blocks put on the Dotson dimensions, text things like on. Yeah. I mean, this is this will teach you all you need to know to big producing two D drawings. Really? They are people who do this kind of thing for a living. Lots of people on. I'm gonna teach you all you need to know to do that. So let's get started 8. 08 Building Outline: Okay, so now we can actually start drawing up our project. First thing we're going to do is draw the external wall, so we'll click on rectangle and we want to start on this zeros their origin point. So we zero top zero hundreds. So we started from this point here. Then we put in our ex dimension first, which is 20,000 top and then 10,000 which is alway dimension. Remember the coordinate system. Then we press return. Okay. To get our world 300 millimeters fake. The best way to do that is to quickly officer command typing free 100. Click on the on the outline and make sure you off certain inside. I mean, left, click, right, click and enter. And that's our external wall. So first thing to do is save up. I'm just going to say that documents us building 01 save on. There we go. So in the next lesson will start adding the internal walls 9. 09 Internal Walls: Okay, So now we're going to add our internal walls here, and we're going to use to new commands to do this or to help us do this. What did the trim and we extend command? Very simple commands. I'm just gonna demonstrate these. You can follow along if you want. You don't have to. I'm just going to draw lying there and then I'm gonna draw one line. Finished right. Click another line. The click. OK, so two lines. And now imagine. We want to both these lies to stop and meet this line. Okay? This line doesn't quite reach it. It stopped short. This line goes over when we can change those by using our trim on extent. So trim first thing we do we select our cutting line which will be this We left click a lot but right click object to trim. We contribute outside all outside. So click right click Enter. We've now trimmed back back to this cutting line. Okay, If we changes to extend same process that we extend it toe that line. So we left. Click it right Click. What line do we want to extend? We extend this one. Okay, right and then you go. So both lines. Now meet that line and stop just filling up. Okay? So I want internal walls. I'm going to stop from this side. Grant slut. Polly Line. No! We want our first room to be 4100 wide. My wall will start around here. But how do we get that exact? Did I mention 4100 from here? We could offset, but because this is a poly line, it's a rectangle. It would actually offset the whole rectangle inside. What we can do is this clever Auto command. AutoCAD command. Okay, so to do this, click on Polly line and we hover over that going. Okay, changes to end point. We then move along that wall, Onda, We typing our distance from that corner, which is 4100 press return. Now it will start our wall from that position. Okay, we've outlined down again, but when it hits the other side, we get this green cross to show it snapping into that wall click up, right click enter on their we have is our wall, and we can check that We've measured command, so Yep. It's for files on 100. No, we can use the offset command. We know the internal walls are 100 millimeters fic, so type in 100 return. That will all make sure we all set to the correct side. Click. There we go. Right Click. Oh, in next room. It's 6006 meters. So again, offset type in 6000 And, uh so let this wall. There we go. Right click and now offset. 100. And, uh, there we go. Right quick. Now that will give us our six meter wide room. The next room is six meters again. We could repeat the process. We just did. But in auto cut, there's always more than one way of doing something. And in order to get quick at drafting you, you kind of come up with new ways of doing things and saving time. So because this is the same dimension is but last room. But where I would do this, I would click on copy a copy of that wall. Right click Select. That's is a base point. A copy of that, Ondo, we've copied right six meter. Well, okay, now we should have according to our survey free meters. We can measure that with our measuring till yet free meters. Okay, so we now have our wall's running off south our internal walls. Now we need to create this corridor down the middle and we're going to PRESUME is down the middle. Surveyors, actually, Mr Off, but we will presume it is right down the middle. And it's two meters wide. So what I would do this is to first draw a line straight down the middle. So we click on polar line Now, how do we know our line is down the middle? We're snapping to the and points. I mean two sections. Yeah, and remember that we turned that on in our objects now, and we have lots of object snaps. You can snap to the center of a circle midpoint of the line quadrant of a circle perpendicular. So we want midpoint. If we turn midpoint on, then we'll see. We also get this green triangle now, which is the midpoint of the line so we can click. Buy. I'm get Ana Vilma. Right click. We now have a line running right down the middle of our building. So our corridors two meters wide if we now offset Andi typing on a meter 1000 and officer, both sides that will give us our Cardo. We commend. Delete this original line. From there we go. We now offset on 100 millimeter internal wall. Make sure you officer, at the correct way. Right click. This will give us our corridor down the middle. Okay, but our internal walls at the moment look quite role. They basically going through each of it. We've got walls in the middle of a corrido, so we need to use our trim Kanaan to trim these out come true on I'm going to select these two worlds here. We want these walls really north south to stop. But these points Okay, so right, click a man. We can select H wall individually. We can also use our remember our window selection tool we can use up so it don't do it that way because you would have to cover all the line. But by going this way from this corner of puts, all we have to do is touch anything we touch. We will trim out, right click And where you go? No, We have ended up with these parts. We want to take these parts out is a so we can trim and you can slept more just like we did last time. So let Marvin one trim line at a time. So we're gonna set. All right. Click. I'm and I'm just gonna go through on take out, please. Good equipment. That looks a lot Tidier here. If we look at our services actually open, we don't have a wall here. This is a reception. So this is correct. This wall should end enjoying that wall. Okay, so we could extend this line. We could extend that line to vitamin treatment, both files. OK, It was a quick away. Philip, Command fill It is just a corner. Okay. So quick, Not Andre will ask for radius. Okay, So if we wanted a nice curved wall around here, we could we could tell it. We wanted to meet to damage to curve and gives a nice curve corner. If the radius zero, which defaults to and it will give us a sharp corner like that, which is what we want, we commend. Just delete this one on. There we go. So we now have our reception area and we have our walls on in. The next lesson will add Vidal's so I'll see you in the next lesson. 10. 10 Adding the Doors: Okay, So now, with ready to add the dolls onto our layout, let's have a look. I was sketch. Okay. Okay. Let's have a look. I'll sketch. So we got 1234567 Internal dolls on Dvir doubled off. Will concentrate on the single dollars first. As you can see, these free here could be married to create these ones. I'm adult is 900 wide, and it is 100 mil from the wall. I will take that dimension to be correct for all of them. So I'm going to Jarvis one first 100 millimeters from this world. So, using the same command we used previously for, the walls will hover over here. Click Polly Line before. Sorry. So we'll hover over here and then move out along that line typing Want hundreds return press return. Okay. No. Going to go straight up full of a green snap line on the door was 900. Okay, right click to come out. So that's Aladar, which is 900 long from this point. And it's 100 million off foot wall. Okay. To put may the swing on the door, I'm just going to draw a circle from this point to that point and then used the trim command cutting line will be up blind on this light here, then, right click. I want to do it. Right Click. OK, no, we've got the door. But we need to an opening, so I could extend this door down and use that you can extend the curve, but it would be would be full of a sweep. It would still be a curve because I want this to be a part of a wall, not the door. I am going to draw to new lines just straight down. So what I'm doing is pulling line. Quick. Start straight down. Snap to the opposite wall. Right click and okay. And then we can trim windows. Let those two lines right click Good right click. And that we have our door. Okay, Going back to the sketch. This store here is basically a mirror of that one. So we need a line in the middle of this wall. Easiest way to do that is to draw a temporal line here. Right click in tow. Then we select mirror. We'll copy all these. So the doll sweet plant on these two world lines. Right click now, especially if I first point of the mirror line will be. We have our mid points and upon so midpoint of their click and then just go down and make sure you're on the green snap line. So it's vertical click again. And Ray saw subjects. No, on there we go. The man and would condemn the same trim with the window. Right click. Okay, that we have our doors. Now we've got the door swinging each way. We can just copy this this lot here. We'll use that point and we will put a swan. It goes like on visiting. Born that. Okay, Right click. And before I forget, I'm just going to delete this temporary line. Withdrew. Okay. On way. Well, trim out these parts, so select cuts denies, right. Click training, training, training. Dream, right click. Ok, so to mirror vase, it will be the same as we did of a single door. But we will select that dog. That doll, right? Click Mira line midpoint to make a point. That race all subjects? No. So now we could just go for a trip. Well, we don't need to be to full spectrum like that Doesn't matter If we select something else, we could just draw a window on the whole lot. Right click. Andi, usually of a window select method just could come out right equipment. Okay, So that siren turtle dolls now on, we need to add the double dolls so we can copy one of A's on. I'm actually going to copy that piece too. Right click I use This is a base point for now. I'm just going to move it over there. That's great part for moms. Okay, with rotate this first 90 degrees so we can snap to his green line. Last 90 degrees Van mirror. It's free lines. Andi have has been very point again. Keeping a maligned No, no, this should. If we put this point here on the midpoint, that should be in the correct place. Let's say so, Right? Click based point there. Midpoint? That's right. It is in the center. I know we need to do is extend. It's about line. Right clip And you can see trimming and extending quite a lot. That command does get used a lot. Um, and you do You probably hate my mouse clicking away. That's me. Left clicking right clicking It will be slow to start where, if you do have to think about a my left clicking all right clicking here. But eventually the more you practice your fingers, eventually just going to start clicking away on their own. You don't need to think about it. Ravan Press return. But you just right click in all the time. And if you can hear me clicking and going through the commands and you can't keep up, that's majors. Right? Clicking. Basically, Um, you'll get used to that. You get usedto you'll be doing it yourself in no time. So now again, we will train right click to return left click to select right click to return. Okay, Eyes, no adults. So in the next listen will put out windows in which will be a similar method and, um, drawings almost complete already, so I'll see you in the next lesson. 11. 11 Adding the Windows: Okay, so we're gonna talk to the windows. Now, take a look at some of sketch. So we've got for windows in the no fall on the south wall. Two meats is long, so they're all the same. So what would be a a good way off creating May as well. We want to start from one edge. We have the Dimension 900 to me to window 362 meters. So a good way of doing this could be a to create the window and then copy it multiple times to do that, we need some kind of reference point measured out. Remember when we drove the dolls? We did one. We didn't just want to create the window. We wanted Enver walls. Well, so I do want to job these vertical lines. Um, so what I would for what I would do this would be to get one of these vertical lines in a man, offset it and get all these closed the walls off, using all these lines first, and then adding the windows later. And I'll show you what I mean by that now. So we used the same If it is before we hover over that corner and move along and typing 900 . And then we snap down to the upset wall click. And that gives us our first point. You can now use the offset command. I'm a first dimension 2000 for the window, Oliver. Okay, right. Click. Enter right. Click again. Repeat offset. On. This time it will be a free 600. Stir right click ends up, right. Click bait this time. Another window. So 2000 right click and toe, right click. Repeat this time is 4100 Antam, Right click. And so right. Click. Repeat. Offset of wind out 2000. Right click and on. You can see how fast you can get with these right clicks as you're doing. I can't to 500. If you do go in an office was lots of cut. Guys, you can hear clicking. Going on sometimes. Sounds like a lot of sewing machines going away. So and repeat on the last window is to So we've got our window positions now. I'm That means we can close our walls off. It might sound a bit confusing, but I show what me I want to draw the window separately. So I'm going to draw a rectangle in one of these positions and you can move it out unknown to put the detail. And it's just it's just a line. And quickly and I'm going to offset this. A 50 Dave aside. Okay, so I have a line here, which is the wall opening, and I have a number line here which will sit over top, which is a window Andi I wanted to do is because I want the window to be a natural object. That will sound confusing now, but it will become clear later on when we start putting things on different layers. Amusing blocks. Okay, this will be a block eventually. So if you've already got a bit experience, I'm wondering why I'm not doing that. I will be eventually, but I want to teach people as I go along. So for now I'm just going to move that into the first position. I'm better good to copy. And if you just selected something when you want to slip this a game ravin actually selected you can just type t which stands for previous. So you're selecting the previous election. First return and you see it's highlighted. So the last thing you selected will be re selected by typing paid for previous right click . Select our base point and I'm going to copy will just keep doing it. So you finished base that you can copy as many as you want, OK, right Click. And now we have our windows and we want them in the same place down here. So you can probably guess what I'm gonna dio a couple of ways I could do actually copy them and use. But Mick Point here is a base point for mid point there, but I'm going to mirror of them. It's just good practice. If fees were a bit more detailed, his windows, you would probably have some kind of window cell detail here and maybe outside, which will be different. The external would look different to the internal part of the window, so she was to coffee would end up with them. The wrong way around the mirror would be the best option. So then the external part is on the external side because it mirrored so in this case, it is a matter. But that's just way. I'd prefer to do it so a mirror along the center point. You raise objects? No. Okay. When we have our windows now. So we've got windows with walls with dolls. So the only thing we're missing now I think off our sketches were lighting which would id like that on the dimensions and text will be done in a different way. And I'll show you that and following lesson. 12. 12 Creating Blocks: Okay, so in this lesson, we're going to look up blocks on. We're going to use blocks to improve these windows on. We're also going toe adv allies as blocks. Okay, now what is it? Block? Okay, So if you're drawing a particular object which is made up of a collection of line circles, Well said that you you don't want to be drawing that over and over again. If it's something that's going to be copied in multiple places like these windows, for instance, on maybe the doors, then the easiest ways to create a block okay on it that will turn a collection of objects into one object. I'll show you exactly what to Maine by up. So let's copy one of these windows first. Let's just move it out. Okay? Quickened. Now, if we go to the insert command at the top and weekly come create block there we get this dialog box, which may look a bit complicated. It it's really not. But where you just got the one, these things come up, you just work your way through them. What's the best way? So name? Well, obviously we'll call this window and it's always good practice to give him a number. Even though we've only got one type of window. Maybe something's added later. So we'll call it window one, even though it see anyone. Okay, base point. Where do we want to grab this window? This is important, because when you bring in multiple instances of this block, this is it where it will come in. Easiest way. Pick point on we're going to use has no but left corner. Okay, The unit, that's in millimeters. That's our drawing units. So that's already noted. Shouldn't need to touch. Okay, objects. We're going to select objects. Just draw window around the right clip. Okay, ignore this box for now. Let's see advanced things. We don't need to dio what we want to do. We want to convert it to block, okay? And description. If you've got a big project, you got a large drawing with lots of different things. You can type in what it is here. In our case, we've called it. We know that's pretty much what it is. I think about self explanatory. Okay, so we're gonna click, OK? No, Remember, we copied this out. If we click on this is made up of individual lines. OK, if we click on this, it's just one object. Now he only has one nice point. That is just one object. Okay, go home. And if we want to move this, we could just move it as one of Jim. So it's much easier to deal with. You can't accidentally grab one of these lines and moving out of it. What I'm going to do now, I'm ready to undo what we did. Have a greatest lesson just to show you why a lot is better to use a block. Okay, so too late. I didn't draw it. Life is straight away because I'm tryingto progressively teach you things, okay? And I'm also trying to show you ways of our people. May have done something. When you going to a job using card, you're going to come across lots of drawings, but we're what can I say? Just not not done very well. Basically, people have all sorts of funny ways of using cat on a lot of people. Cut standards don't apply, so you will see things, items that could be a block drawn like that. And so Yeah, I'm This is why we put these extra parts into official for Well, so the way I would do this now, I would you could just grab this copy just like we did before. On you can put blocks that's on creating them is a block. His moves again. If he's if these have pain different on one side of me ever would have put with blocking him and marriage become mayor of locked. Yeah, So good in this case is a much, But we have Windows has blocked us now. Okay, So what else do we need to do? Well, if we look here, we've got our lights spaced out these lights to show him a room. I don't have any dimensions of space. They are quite indicative. Really? So I'm going to draw a vase as a block again. Okay, so a symbol for a light would be something like, Let's make them right. Click and toe good to offset 100. Andi, I'm going to draw a line to okay. What I'm going through isn't going to scare this fine and actually make it 1.5. Actually, I do. I'm going to make it twice the size click. It's like the midpoint talking to a man you hear about. Okay, Hopefully you followed along with us. There's lots of different ways you could have done it, but basically, this is a shape we're looking for. Then we're going to create block on burns. Call this light 01 I take the point. This time I'm going to use select objects. Okay, so now you can say this is a bluff. So we've got we got four lines of these, which are old space, the same. So if we create this top line of lights, it should just be a case of marrying on copy on this one is in the center of the room. As is that one. These two spaced again. It's just indicative, really? So we can draw a line destroyed diagonally. And this is just to get again. In this case, I'm going to delete these visa just for setting out. It doesn't matter if it's a line or a poly line, straight right click. And we will move this by grabbing the midpoint. Andi, Now this is stop it to a midpoint because we just drew this lining anyway. Really, The midpoint is there. I won't miss about here. What we can do, We have another one of these snaps cold nearest, and that will just go. So a line a point nearest to your cursor. So wherever I put my cursor, as long as it's on the line, it will snap to there. And in this case, I'm only interesting getting it in the center this way, so anywhere of his line would do. But I want to probably around that I'll do OK. And then we can slip made under leaving. No, we will. Right. Click up. We'll click. Copy. Select Right click. And I'm going to do is buy. I I'm going to pull it escape out. Okay, mirror less one and the winds mirror on the window. So we're going to marry this one. But to use the window as a midpoint snuffle grade line graze objects. Okay, so these air are based positions here? No, we can a copy these rooms of the same size so we can use up. Okay. Here. We need the middle of this room again. So same thing we could We don't need drug. Definitely. As long as we get a little, we can do it. That life we want If you you the nearest snap remembered service snap on the nearest it can . You've only what you're always going toe. If you try to do a midpoint, Say you're always going to get your nearest come on. Isn't so It's gonna be harder, so I tend to turn that off after I've used it. Nearest snap. Now we can get a midpoint on snap along the green line. Okay? And now we could go for a midpoint of what that will do, does it? Look, it was a midpoint in here in this room. Now we can copy a light. We can tell the midpoint here. No, what I want to do is put up on the Lima so a little gray line just snapped, and now we know it is in the center room. We can believe these lines. So physical construction lines lines you draw in, just tow line something, and then usually there is actually a construction line command. But I don't know anyone who actually uses it. People just officer know all the lines or use lines and poly lines from here. Okay, but this gives us our layout, and now we can just Mirrlees. If we go this way, we won't slip the walls. Remember? If I was to sweat that way, we would. So everything we touch so we would slip walls. So we will do that way we can use one of these walls. Have a midpoint from the green line. Your eyes objects. Now I must give us all of the lights. No, it's just a case of copying. I don't right click And okay, so now we have our windows as blocks and we have our lights in. I would have probably been tempted to do with dogs blocks as well, but I think I've shown you how to do that. So that's enough of this lesson. I'll leave it there and join me in the next lesson. 13. 13 Creating Layers: Okay, so welcome to this. Next lesson on in this when we're going to talk about layers and I'll show you what layers are and how we can use. Okay. So you'll notice we have a box appear layers. This is this allows you to create objects. We have different properties that can easily be turned on enough. Now, what do I mean by that? Let me show you the easiest ways that you show you and we'll do it together. Okay, so I'm going to click It's lay of properties box and you get this box struck out. I'm just gonna make it bit bigger so you can see this may look a bit confusing. It's really not again, but more you use it, the more sense of these things make. So we've got one layer in this drawing that is layer zero, all drawings. When you start, we have layers, Aero. Everything we've drawn so far has been layer zero has been white. It's been a continuous line type, which means that the light of his dashed are dotted. It's just a continuous line. It's a continuous thickness. Okay, we're going to add some layers for our different objects here. We cannot lies by clicking this new layer Tough. So click it first thing asks for the name of the first layer. We're going to call external walls. External bulls. Okay. Now, when you move into a complete, there will have their own way of creating layer names of typing lay names. It may be certain numbers. Some companies you worked for, they have a whole book full of layers. I've worked for large airports and things where there was thousands of layers. Okay, they would have a code and underscore under certain way of doing it for this demonstration , which is going to type in what is valet will be cold water is really okay. So, external walls, we'll create another one internal walls again. You can type whatever you want. ERM, you can use under skulls, whatever. I use ICT use capitals for new word. No space press return to enter it, and they turn again to create a new one. On this will be dolls, percent percent windows and, uh, don't to that. So if you want to, if you accidentally go off it, you haven't typed in the name. Just double click the name standard windows. Think. Okay on. I'm going to call this lighting. Okay? I am going to create some all for other objects we're going to create. So I'm going to create I'm going to create one called patch. If you notice what to do that, try to double click on it to edit it quickly, too fast. So it puts Green arrow. The green arrow means it's the current layer. That means when I draw now, anything I draw will automatically be on this layer hatch. I like to keep zero as the current layer. That's good practice. So double click. It will be okay. Double click slower and u Conn name. If you double click fast, it will set. It was a current layer. Okay, We will be adding Somalia soon, but for now, this is only let's make them different colors. OK, so we just quit his color box here. So windows quick. I went to Betty's green. Doesn't matter which green you pick for now. Just pick 92 random. Okay, um, lighting. I'm gonna make that orange. Okay, Hutch, I'm going to create when he's graze here. 352 I see stonewalls until doors. I'm going to close its blue here on 50. Okay of a color for our purposes. It's just going toe. It's going to be that cone screen is going to print that color when you work in a company that they will usually set their print styles as cause. So this 1 50 maybe a thick line. This may be kind of transparent hatch. They will have their own print tables and you'll be given a list a book, And it will say, if you want a thick line, do it. This collection of Finn lined up his color, all that kind of stuff first. For now, it doesn't really matter. I just want to show you how you change things. So we're gonna create these cause line time. Okay? We're going to keep always a continuous. If you wanted, you could load on AutoCAD come surveys so we could change some of these. I am going to change a line time. I'm going to show you that. But we don't want to live up by later. This is things you change it here are done by layer, so they will apply to everything on that layer. Okay. You don't need to do it that way. You can just click on the line and change the line type There, the things you change in this box, the things you want to apply to everything on that layer. Okay, so some of the of transparency, obviously, is it has it got transparency setting? Can you make it 50% transparent plot styles print. You can set things. So for some reason, maybe we wanted to whenever we printed his drawing. We don't want the doors to print on it. We don't want the lights to print. You know, it wasn't this was going to the manufacturer of the internal walls. He didn't need to see the lights. You can just set it. So nothing on the light in label print. Uneven, but showing it won't actually print. You can turn things on and off. It's probably best if we put some things in layers first and I'll show you that. Okay, so for now we can close out down. So we've added Elias, cause up here. If you look waken click on any line, we could change that line to a certain color certain thickness, certain lying time or we can set it on by layer. That means it will use for properties we've just set in here. So the walls will be set to the by layer settings which we've set in here. Okay, so I like to create layers afterwards on a drawing likeness. Andi, because I'm showing you how to use layers. It's the easiest way to do it. In this case, if you get to a point where you've got a drawing, you need to put on actual layers or change allays. I'll give you a ticket to do. But the way I like to do it, if we open this again all the layers I've created I actually turn off and you can turn them off by de select emits light bulb image here. Okay, close up. No. Nothing's happened because all our items of stone layer zero Okay, this is a block so we could change. The layers appear if we click on the light, but I would like to look. It will say one or more objects. Friends. What's warning is that that has been putting away of its turned off. Okay, well, that's what I want. So you could girl and slept all these lights. An easy way to do that. And cut, click and object right Click down here. Select. Similar that will ultimately select all the similar objects. Okay, look easy. That's a great command. And we'll put those because we've turned very named layers off. Now you can see exactly what you haven't haven't given a layer name, which is why I like to do it. So I will. Right? Click select Shamila. Okay. Not slept all those acts. It probably wouldn't work for a because of a moment. Easy. Just lines again. Probably if we had more time, I probably would have made these doors a block. I mean, it would have worked. Okay, I will put those on the dollar on you. See now why we like to watch these end pieces and close the wall off. Okay? We can use select similar for our windows. Oh, again, you can see why we voted vz now because when we turn the window off when we know where the windows were and it is still part of the wall. Okay, so now we can select those make Remember to slip this part. I'm todo o k and all that's left is to put out now onto the external wallet. Now everything is gone so we can open it last time. All on and we know. But there on the current land. Okay, One more thing. It's good practice with blocks to put the items inside the block. This block is on that layer, but the atoms inside it should be as well. Okay, you can edit a block. You can change a block by double clicking it. We've got our blocks. It got light. We okay that now it opens. It looks like a new drawing is just a drawing with this block. Okay? And you could see if we highlight these when we go, but I hope they are on layers. Air of a block itself wasn't lighting, but the components from zero. So it's a good idea. It's good practice to put components on me as well. And usually you would create. You do that when you create the block. It's just because I've been doing it a certain way around to introduce principles as we made him. OK, so what goes on that layer About two block at it and we want to closed toe. Do you want to save the changes. Safer changes. Okay, We'll just do that again for the lights in double click windows. Sorry. Double clue windows. Put it on me. Windows, layer. Hopefully understand what I'm doing here. It's kind of a roundabout. Where? Don't again. Because I'm trying to show you gradually introduce concepts, but we just making sure every part of it is on the windows. Liar realize what would have happened if we, for some reason, turned off layers? Aargh! The individual components itself up might have disappeared, but that's it. So eyes are dry now, so in the next lesson will look at hatching in these walls. 14. 14 Hatching: Okay, so in Miss, Listen, we're going to look at hatching, and we're going to use that toe hatching the walls in a kind of solid gray which is usual for this type of drawing. Let me show you. I'm going to show you first by just drawing a basic rectangle over here. There we go. Okay. So, hatch, we can access for Hatch Command by clicking this one here in the drawer. It's this hatch. You can also press h Ritzer and does the same thing. And we have this box of ribbon changes to these commands. Okay, so the first thing we want to do is select our pattern. There's lots of potential by clicking Miss Darrow, you can expand base of it so we can see Onda. We have all sorts in here. So it hatch which is what we're going to use. We could also do lines so you might want Dagnall lines. Or you can have vertical horizontal lines. It's the same command, but lying command. You can have brickwork. He's gonna have concrete. This is a standard hutch for concrete. Has all sorts of materials here as dots. These grading hatches. So it kind of gradually goes darker. It also shows you could have met trust hatching zig sex double lines. Okay. And I'll show you those now. So if you wanted lines you could put up okay on. You have two options to slightly object. You You can select an object like a rectangle, uh, right click. And so Oh, what's that? Or you could pick an internal point so you could pick just inside. Okay. Now, this works best when you zoom in on you of it on screen. If you would zoomed out and you were trying toe picking side walls, you can see you might pick their or their by accident. So don't make life difficult for me to do it. Okay. What's clear, Andi, we'll slip home now. We select lines here, but this looks like a solid hatch. Wise up, when you use a pattern, you need to give that pattern is scale. Okay. So the scale could be set here. Scale of one delight. What's happening here is the lines are so close together. It looks like a sword hatch. Remember? Were working millimeters meters of 1000 units on this drive. So one is very close together the gap between the lines is one. So it should be more like, Let's use free 100. Okay, now it's far apart. Sorry. It's probably too far apart. So that scale is important. You may want to use something like 50. I'm not gives you a nice Okay, okay. I'm not something to remember. If hotch, you can change it now, you've got your scare, right? Double lines crosshatch. You could try. Always. I got Haven't played out. Draw a rectangle, have a play about with the hatches. See what you go out with. Um, for this drawing, I'm going to select. I'm going to select. No, I could put a hot June. I'm insulate the hatch and put it on the correct layer. Oh, I'm easy. Option, if you know you're going to do that is to she was hatch here. That puts hatch on the current layer. Same is when we double clicked it so hatches anything we draw. Now we'll go into the hatch layer which will make our lives easier. So we draw hatch, we're going to select. So it and we're going to pick points on. We're going to pick into these wall spaces here Okay, That's our external walls Now, right, click. Enter and we have our hatches. Okay, We'll do that again for the internal walls. It remembers your last your last Hutch. So we'll click into space again. Zoom in it quick. Don't forget to this place. Okay, so that's we'll right click into that's our walls hatched in and that's Hatch. Have a play about With that, there's all sorts of things you can do, Dr Rectangle Circle whatever and practice hatching, wearisome, advanced things you can do with it. But that's for an implants lesson. So well said, Really, I'll see you in the next lesson where we'll start turning it into an actual drawing, okay? 15. 15 Model Paper Space: Okay, so we're getting prove its course now on. We have our drawing, Marlys complete. This is our building. Wow. What we need to do now is look at getting this on an actual drawing on. Do let me explain the difference between a model and a drawing, because this is going to be quite important. OK, so in count, everything is drawn actual size, but something to remember. Whoever is a building layout, a machine parts. However, it's your piece of paper that you're going to prince out with your drawing board. Ron. It's all drawn actual size. Okay, so we've drawn this building week. I knew something was five meters. Is building was 10 meters by 20 meters. You know, we drew it to actual size. If we were to print this out and printing actual sites, it would be the size of a building. If there was a printer, a piece of paper that big. Okay, obviously that's not going to be a very good idea. Usually in this day and age, people like to print on a free sheets. It used to be a one a over big sheets of paper. The fashion now is more towards a free sheets. But either way to get something this big in real life onto a sheet of paper you need to printed at a certain scale, obviously, and I'll talk about scales. But first, I really want you to understand the difference between the drawing drawing being a piece of paper with an image off this building. I on a model. This is a model. This is modeled actual size drawn, actual size, and it's in. If you look down here, it's a model. This is called model space. This area where we've been drawing and doing are laughing. So far. This is called model space. Okay, this is infinitely big. We could have the whole town in here if we wanted from zoomed out enough, okay? And it's all actual size. So this is 10 meters by 20 meters, and it's our model. If we click down here into one of these louts, let's click layout one. You'll see our model hit. You'll see that it's going white. Okay, now what I want to do is select this bold around me outside on. Just delete that for now. Okay, so in Lower One, this now is called paper space. Okay. And this is our sheets of paper again. It's actual size. So we tell the computer what size paper we want to print. And I want you now to open up the resource file. And if you downloaded the resource, then you will also have a drawing when the resource is called title book. Okay, have open already. This is what you got. Okay, so your should look like this. Now, what is this? When you you've probably seen Adjoining may work with joins already and ballooning cap so you can create them yourself. You may be used to see Miss. I'm going to explain it anyway, just in case, you know, usually you would have a tighter block on the drawing, so you're you're drawing would be in this space here, and Title Block is just to tell you what it is, so you'd have a title drawn by which br initials on date you created it. The scale of drawing which will look up the drawing number. Any company or project has its own numbering system. They could get quite complicated revision. So, like a document of your revised first revision will usually be one or letter A and then, as you revise it will go to BCD or 12 free. That's true. Okay, here you have the verses. Descriptions of revision. The first revision. Why was it revised by who? On what day? And you're feeling this box as you go. But for now, what's important towards is to remember that this is actual size. This one here is an A For because I wanted you guys to be able to print it. Most of you won't have a free printers. So a four title block and this is actual size. If you measure vests, see, it's 261 by 1 18 OK, so is drawn to fit onto an a four piece of paper, Basically. Okay, Now, what I'm going to do is just select this under the home I knew you could go to. Yeah, this is copy we talked about. Okay, these are our tubs of the joints we have opened. So this is our building. We can check there now. Okay, so then we click on we under place. We have the arrow pace to original coordinates, but we'll bring it into the same coordinates as it wasn't a previous drawing. Okay, Miss Dashed Line here is the prince area, which we will change when we set to talk to our printer. So don't worry about that Now. Go back to the title. Bought drawing Weaken. Close up. Don't save it closed. Okay, so now we have our model space of our building drawn to actual size. And we have our paper space with our title block, John to actual size. Okay. And that is papers based on a model space. It's a really important concept. A lot of people, a lot of companies who used catch and have them for a long time don't understand this. And don't use it correctly. I suggest you do get into the habit of using paper space on model space correctly because it will save you a lot of problems later on on In the later topic, when we look at problems you might encounter, I'll show you some of the issues you can get. But for now, just remember, everything is drawn. Actual size for model is drawn actual size of model space. Pick for paper is drawn out for size paper space called louts now. But this type of space is noticed. Paper space and usually pepper space will be white like paper on this will be black. So you know the difference. Okay, so in the next lesson, we'll look at how you can actually get our model onto the paper. 16. 16 Viewports: Okay, so now we have our paper space on our model space. We need a way of viewing our model from the paper space. Okay, when we do that by creating what's called a view part. So first I'm going to show you how to put a view pot, and then I'll explain it to you. Okay. Okay. So in order to insert a view port, we click on this layout. Here, we get out of you, pull the news. For now, we're just going to click on Rectangular View Park. So as it sounds us a rectangular vieux port, and we want to in service into our viewing area. So our viewing area is this big space here in the middle of our title block, and we will. We'll click on the level F gana on the top right corner, and you will see that our model appears. Okay. Now, if you double click into our into the inside of us, you conceive a border goes quite fic, okay? And now, if you zoom with your wheel, you can see your model moving in and out. We have this grid on here, so I want you to press f seven on the keyboard. Just turn that off for now. Okay? A man just click outside this lot. A double click turn elf are now explain what we've actually done here. Okay? So as we said in the previous lesson, we have model space, which is our model drawn on actual size. We have loud or paper space, which is our piece of paper. A four paper drawn at actual size Have you pull is a window that you put on the drawing that we've just inserted that lets you view from your paper into your model. Okay, when we double click inside it were actually going into the model space, but we're looking into it from paper space, so that might sound complicated. Think of it like looking out of a window. Okay. If you look out of your window, your window frame may only be a meter by meter. But when you look out of your window for building over the road, which is 20 meters, how you can still see within your window frame and that's exactly the same kind of process here. We're drawing a window which allows us to view our model fruit The window at a certain scale. If we made actual size, it would probably be would be huge on an a four piece of paper so we can scale it down. But we know actually changing the size if we go to measure this wall is still for 0.1 meets us, no matter how big we make it. Because we're just changing the view. Okay, we're scaling it. We're not changing the model itself. If we were to draws a circle in here in this model space in this window, okay, and go to model space that would appear in model space. So let's leave by double clicking into this window, we can view and edit our model fruit this window from paper space. Okay, that is really important thing to remember on. We will use up a lot more. You can. But on a basic drawing, you would have one view part, Okay, But it's possible. And I'll just show you day after day yourself. She and it was an example. It is possible tohave multiple view ports on your drawing with different scales. Okay, I'm just showing you this because an example, So you could have so So our drawing on a drawing, remember, is a piece of paper with items on it. Our drawing shows us. The flowing out was a home zoomed in image of this room. So it can seem Ardito a zoomed in image of reception area and zooming image of this room here. I don't mean kind of building. Wow, but it is all one model If I were to insert a circle in reception, you'll see it comes in here, Aunt, if I move it. All right. Yeah, over. So we do still have only one model. Okay, with a view port is just a way of viewing that model from your paper and you can set different. You could have as many of you parts is you want you can set different scales. You can do all sorts of things. Okay. That's why it's important to use paper space of modern space. This allows you to draw everything actual size, and it allows you to set different scales in multiple views. Okay, so for now, I just want you to use your mouse on. Just don't worry about actual skill. Just get your building to a certain size. Okay? So what scale do we want to view? Is that well, that depends really On the size of your model on the size of your paper. There are certain conventions and certain scales that except for the main scales, when you see 1 to 100 or 2 50 1 to 500 for large areas of maps maybe 1 2000 For small details, you'd be looking at kind of 1 to 10 with five, sometimes actual size for small details. Something like this. We got an A four sheet, which is quite small. We've got 20 meter building. If you click down here, you can set your scale. Make sure you double clicked interview parts. You've got a bold bold around the and you're inside your view port. Okay, go down to here and you have some presets scales. You could do it scale to fit, so it would just fit in the sheet. But really you want to be using scales wake and it means someone who comes along and measures at drawing and it all it is a correct, accurate scale. Okay, so 12 58. Well, that's too big. It doesn't fit in. It's only an A four sheet. 1 to 100. 100 is perfect. Okay, so that is absolutely breath that you would use up is 1 200 now. Okay, click outside the box. And now you're totally set in the and you can work in paper space. In the next lesson, we're gonna work in this papers based. We're gonna fill out some of these details. We're gonna get out. Title block. Looking good. We're gonna look at putting some dimension in Texas, okay? 17. 17 Editing the Titleblock: Okay, so we have our paper space set up. Now, we have a model space here and we have our title blocking ready to go in this lesson, I'm gonna talk about text on. We're going to fill out these boxes. Okay, so in AutoCAD, we have two different versions of text and they can be found up here. We have multi line text and single line text. Okay. Multiplying text is your typical text editor. Click on that and then draw a rectangle. You can change that later. If we put in tech, start typing percenter. New line, weaken. Typed paragraphs, paragraphs of text. Okay. Okay. Now we have all the normal text editing commands, so we can put it in the middle. We have a side. It could be bold italics. We have our fonts. It's just like any other word editing package. Okay, Size symbols is like word. It's like all those kind of things. Just a normal Windows text editor. OK, free clothes that if we just click it, we can change signs of our text box. Okay, that's multi line text. Do it. You have a text. We have a single line text. Now. This would be used for things like these boxes where you don't need a paragraph. You're not going to be put in a new line. It's just one simple piece of text. Okay, your height, Right. Click on verities on. So if I want to put my initials in, I'm going. If I was to put a date in So Okay, Andi, our scale, Which we would write 1 to 100. Okay, I'm I'm just click off it now the persists Good, because it's single on text these free, different pieces of text. If we move one, it only moves up because it's single line. Okay? And that's all single on text days. No. Any object whether it's a line text, circle anything. If you want to change certain night parts of properties of up, right click after selecting it, click on properties and we have this box here. You will use this box all the time and cut. Okay. So if I click on object and then right click and go to properties, it brings up this box with all the properties of that item so I can change things like the height. I could change his text height to say 2.5, I can change color. I can change the layer. Okay. I can change a scale. I can change the text type on. This is the same for anything. So if we were to draw a line to I can change the lay of this line his own. I can change the color, all these things. You can do it over here too. Okay, but his properties box puts everything in one place now with single line text. What is it Makes it easier for change of things like heights, that kind of thing. Ok, okay. So I just wanted to show you that we can delete those now in our title. What? Titled what you brought in. We have these hashes, please are actually text. So it's ready to go. Generally kind of where a text would be put in for you already toe edit. So double click on those and we could just spend it that so we could put in. I'll put in my initials there. You obviously put in your initials when you've done, it's just click out right preceding today's date. Just put in scale, I think. Want to 100 accounts of it. Drawing number. Well, first it was just put the world one revision on this will be revision A drawing them. But again, house would be a project kind of specific to a project or whatever you choose. In this case, it's just a example. So it doesn't matter. Sometimes when you work on large projects, the numbers are very long. They have codes, references, depending on what part of the project. That could be very, very complicated. But usually you will be given it by a document control of that kind of thing. Um, title. We will just call this building plum. Okay, now that obviously states moving into there. Right quick. Repeat, move. So Okay. Over here we have our revision box. This is revision a description. I'm just going to call this first first issue. It's the first issue of the drawing. It's not actually a revision. It's the first issue of drawing. Is a my initial in two days straight. Okay, that is outside. So block all title blocks. A different When you work in a company, they will have their own title block, but it's it will be similar. But maybe a symbols on heaven, maybe scale bars. It could be loads of notes that need putting on. This is a beginner's course, so I just wanted to show you the basics of text editing and title blocks on. That's it. So okay, in the next lesson, we'll go inside a bit more text. We're gonna put some notes on this drawing on some dimensions, so I'll see you in the next lesson. 18. 18 Basic Annotation: Okay. Welcome back on board. We are now going to add some text and some dimensions to our drawing. So we have our plan here. We can see from our view, Pop, we have our title block. Now, if we were to a text onto our model things like room names, that kind of thing, you could imagine if someone was to come on and do a different layout and do a different scale view part say, we just wanted a plan of that room text would all be a lot bigger than it would be on this . So we don't want to put text in model space. You will see people doing this. You will see companies during it. A lot of people believe in putting text in model space. It's it's wrong. As far as I'm concerned. All text should be in paper space because everything is drawn. Actual size piece of text should be drawn to the correct size to the piece of paper it is on. You don't want to have lots of different sizes of text on the same drawing, and you would have difficulty model space and you had lots of different scales. So attacks should be in papers. It's part of the paper. It's part of the But the layout is power vis drawing plummet. You're creating. It's not part of a model. Okay, so let's at some text. We're going to put some notes on some room names on here. No room names would probably be good as single line text. Okay, so I'm going to want one piece of single line text Onda. We will call this. Let's just type pain room 01 just quick. Often on what I like to do is just get the text in that I'm a notice it so put. But it's obviously too big. We can click on it. We can come over here to our properties again. If this isn't turned on, it's right. Click properties. I will make it a 2.5. Okay. Don't move that. Okay, now what I want because this is going to go in the middle of each room. I want to justify this to the center, which means if we put essentially in the room, it will be in the center of the room. No, you will see what's happening here. It will only let me move it along these 92 degree lines, that is, I will also always turned on. Okay. Also is for setting. That only lets you move under the green lines of green snaps that came on Only letters move along those lines. So if I try to move this of here, it won't it cleave ago. Not what I that way that way. Okay, but when you turn it on and off is your pressing F eight key So f eight F eight. Now what? I copy it. I could move it anywhere I want. Okay. In this case, I'm going to leave it on, because that way, we'll make sure over text is in line. I'm going to cook it again. Now, what's happening? We're trying to snap. Remember, we had our endpoint midpoint. Intersection is trained to take his vets trying to snap to it. OK, which in this case, we don't want so to turn that off its f free Okay, f free. So press, that's free. And now we can click anywhere on the screen. Copy about on. I'm going to copy it multiple times across there. Right click enter and then I'm going to copy again. Full down. Okay, We commend DoubleClick each of these pieces of text and just change the text seven. And then we have our reception here. Okay, So that single line text and we generally use that for things like labels, room names, in this case, that kind of thing. Okay. Okay, so now we're going to put a label on here. I want to label this as main entrance, OK, whenever you see labels on a drawing usually has an arrow to the object. And that arrow is known in card as a leader. Okay. And you'll see that appear leader. So if we click, we click our object in this case, the entrance. You would usually come on angle. Okay. And then we go to just type in there main and, uh, entrance. Okay, I'm just click out of It's way too big. Another easiest waste drawer in I meant edit it after. So again, if it's boxes and already there, most people just all a lot of just leave it. You can right click and click on properties. Okay, again, Some people just leave is open all the time because you use it so much So we click on our label on We have properties, general properties, which is things like cola lay a line side We have properties for the leader of a leader being the arrow. So we have different styles of iro. If I zoom in, let me show you so we could have This is a closed filled arrow. We could have a blunk arrow, so not filled some people like dots. Usually that would be to specify an area rather than an object. Um, you're most different hours bases fairly self explanatory. Most of the time, people use close field, OK, and has a few of the properties in here. You can narrow this down a bit if you can't see the properties, Don't bottom. You can scroll down or you can just minimised. So the text properties, we want our heights to be 2.5. Okay, Now view this way to edit, Miss. On the way it looks. We're going to get into grips later. But wherever you get the blue square or narrow, you can grab it. You can grab that and you can move it so we can click that arrow. We can move in. Uh, okay. You can click the square. I'm going to move this and it moves the arrow to match. We could move that to point to something else. Okay, so with these, we use these things to just draw it as a leader, type in your text and then edit it afterwards, I might know and joins are sometimes covered in notes. Okay, so you might have notes down this side. That side always arose. If you look, a complicated drawing will be arrows pointing everywhere. That's generally how you do it. So it's just a leader with text. And now we're going to look at dimensions. Don't mentioning can be quite a can get complicated on more complicated drawings. But I'm gonna teach for basics because this is a basic beginner's course. Okay, so which is going to look at this one here? Dimension, click him up in Pape space. You click on now, make sure also is turned on For this press a free or click. Make sure that is blue. Now make sure your object snap is turned on for this objects that room. That is where we snapped two endpoints and mid points. You don't just want to be clicking anywhere because you'll get random dimensions. So you press that free to turn that on. Make sure that is blue. Okay, you know it's on because you'll snap to that in points. So you click on an plate click on the over end where you won't ever end of your dimension. You'll see we have a damage. Now it's asking where you want, not in relation to the war. So okay, I'm just quit. Unlike its 20,000 millimeters, 20 meters will do the same here. That's not okay. I'm not gonna put in dimensions of always walls because that was Vega's plan to let us know how to draw it. All we want is these two dimensions here. Really? Okay. But I will show you some more dimensions commands. So let's breast exit to get out of up. Andi, Let's draw. Let's just draw a line. Uh, a man. Repeat, I'm very drawn. Another line from that angle. Okay. Doesn't matter If you want, you can draw certain angle table that's drawn it 30 degrees. Okay, so I mentioned that's the basic Dimension Command. If we were to dimension here, Andi, on this wall, we clicked on either end to remember. Click there and then we draw dimension. You can click an object. If it's one straight line, you can just click. Okay? It will be intelligent enough to know you mean the Inter find. This is the old version of Cabinet about. But you can do it now. Okay. And again, this one, we'll do an aligned dimension. Okay? And that is what is called in a line dimension. Because it's not. It's not 90 degrees. This is horizontal. It may be vertical. If it's an angle like this, it's aligned to this line. If we look under our dimensions here we have linear dimension on aligned dimension. So I'll show you the difference. A linear dimension if we would do this line. Okay, so we go from that and so that in and it wants to measure hot way. Or it wants to measure that way because it's linear. It's Eva, horizontal or vertical. Okay, we don't want that. We want the length of this line. So a linear dimension is no good for us in this case. So what's escape out of up? You would want on allying dimension here, which will give you up like, okay. And then the all divisions can You will have to choose between linear and aligned In the newer versions, You just have dimension, which is intelligent enough toe workout. What you actually want on it, will. It will put the correct dimensional. And you can, even if you click dimensions. If you were to quit that line, I'm not like it. Work out that you need an angular damage, so that's very good. That's really good. Otherwise, you have to choose between the different times. Okay? And you can dimension are clings. Radius is damages again like we did with the modification. I recommend just getting used to the dimension types. Use this one if you want, so you could specify diameter. Oh, you can go outside inside. You could do that single. Okay, I'm a reason we get in Sunny. You know, this is a rounded office because we just drew anything. But I recommend I wanna play over dimensions. It's quite it's quite self explanatory. Really. Okay, So I think I was drawing is ready to print in the next lesson, will look at Prince in the South 19. 19 Basic Dimensioning: and now we're going to look at dimensions they're mentioning. Can be quite a can get complicated on more complicated joins. But I'm gonna teach for basics because this is a basic beginner's calls. Okay, so which is going to look at this one here? Dimension. Click him up in pipe space you click on. Now, make sure your object snap is turned on for this objects that room. That is where we snapped two endpoints and mid points. You don't just want to be clicking anywhere because you'll get random dimensions, so you press that free to turn that on. Make sure that is blue. Okay, you know it's on because you'll snap to that in points. So you click on one plate, click on the over end where you won't ever end of your dimension. You'll see we have a damage. Now it's asking where you want that in relation to the war, So okay, I'm just quit. Unlike that, it's 20,000 millimeters. 20 meters will do the same here. That's not okay. I'm not gonna put in dimensions of always Walt because that was Surveyor's plan to let us know how to draw it all. We want. Is these two dimensions here? Really? Okay, but I will show you some more dimensions commands. So let's breast exit to get out of up. Andi, let's draw. Let's just draw a line. Uh, a man. Repeat, I'm very drawn. Another line from that angle. Okay. Doesn't matter If you want, you can draw certain angle. I'll tell you what, Let's drawing it 30 degrees. Okay. So, Dimension, that's the basic dimension Command. If we were to dimension here Andi, on this well, we clicked on either end to remember Click there And then there were drawn dimension. You can click an object. If it's one straight line, you can just click. Okay? It will be intelligent enough to know you mean the Inter find. This is the old version of cutting wood about. But you can do it now. Okay. And again, this one, we'll do an aligned dimension, okay? And that is what is called in a line dimension. Because it's not. It's not 90 degrees. This is horizontal. It may be vertical. If it's an angle like this, it's aligned to this line. If we look under our dimensions here, we have linear dimension on aligned dimension, So I'll show you the difference. A linear dimension if we would do this line. Okay, so we go from that and so that in and it wants to measure hot way or it wants to measure that way because it's linear. It's Eva, horizontal or vertical. Okay, we don't want that. We want the length of this line. So a linear dimension is no good for us in this case. So what's escape out of up? You would want on allying dimension here which will give you up like okay, and then the all divisions can you will have to choose between linear and aligned In the newer versions, you just have dimension, which is intelligent enough toe workout, What you actually want on it will. It will put the correct dimensional. And you can, even if you click dimensions. If you want to click that line, I'm not like it. Work out that you need an angular damage, so that's very good. That's really good. Otherwise you have to choose between the different times, okay and you can dimension are clings. Radius is damages again like we did with the modification. I recommend just getting used to the dimension types. Use this one if you want, so you could specify diameter. You could do that single. Okay, I'm a reason we get in Sunny. You know, this is a rounded office because we just drew anything. But I recommend I wanna play over dimensions. It's quite It's quite self explanatory. Really? Okay, So I think I was drawing. Is ready to print in the next lesson will look at Prince in the south. 20. 20 Printing: Okay, So now we have a drawing is ready to print for this lesson. You might get some variations. Everyone has different printers. You may have a big drawing plotter for printing the large A 10 sheets. You may have an A free plot printer or in a four printer for me at home. I'm using a stun the day for printer. I'm going to show you that way. Hopefully, you can copy this in an office. It may just be a case of slightly different plotter or printer, So Okay, so we're going to click on this print button, appear on becoming another big dialog box again. Just work for it. So page settle. Okay, Well, if you just printed something and you wanted to do exactly the same settings, you can just click previous plot. Okay, But we're going to set this up, so I see printer we want, and in this case, it is What? This is my print here. Okay, so select your printer from a full. What? To plot allow. If it says lout, it means this tops are everything there? Um, depending How yours? He sets up a lot of people, choose window when you've chosen that, it will ask you which we do see you draw a window from bottom left to top. Right? Okay. So you could choose display, and it would print whatever is in the display of the moment. Extents. Okay, so, on a layout on a title block, extent is a good one. Let's choose him going to his window. I'm going to pick a window, and it's going to be outside the block. Okay, We're gonna print in the center, so we wanted centered. Want our selection centered on the paper? Now scale 1 to 1. Remember, it's drawn actual size. The title block on this is full on a four sheet. So if you wanted to prove it's on a three piece of paper, you could just click fit to paper, and it would It would enlarge it to fit. But you need to watch out if you do that. Remember this scale that you set in your view part is only relevant if you print it at 1 to 1. If you print this to fit on, a larger or smaller sheet on that scale becomes irrelevant. It is no longer to scale, so you need to watch for on the larger drawings are usually on another. If this was a working title block in an office, it would probably say a free a four whatever on here. So people know. OK, so if you get a drawing and it says it's an a free and you've got a piece of a four paper scaled to fit, you know that scale is not correct. OK, so we'll do that 1 to 1 in an office in a large complete would have plot style tables that as we spoke about earlier, that is that's what tells a printer. Okay, Green is going to be this color. Red is going to be sorry. Green is going to be this fitness Red is going to be a certain fitness. Maybe Blue is really Finn line Red is a really thick line and all that is set up in these plot tables. Don't worry about now. We don't have him. Okay, Normal quality. If you've got photos on there, J pegs, you might want that really hand quality of the presentation doesn't matter for lying joins like these just leave on normal. Okay, again, these more advanced settings don't worry about those portrait and landscape. Fairly self explanatory. Okay, so you can preview it. That looks fine. Okay, right. Click Accept. Now, if we wanted to print press okay. And that will print it out of your printer. If you want to say this so you don't need to set it every time you conclude comply. Toe layout. I'm not remembers it. Okay, so that's so now, even if you cancel to print press, OK, don't want to print. This comes and you'll see it actually changes its dotted line to show where the people be. That's saved. Now, that set up, save your drawing. My safe. Okay, that's printed. 21. 21 Using Grips: Okay, so now we're going to move on to some more advanced tools. As I always said, I like to get you drawing to learn the basics. Hopefully, in creating this plan, you've learned a lot of basic commands. Andi. Some people that, you know, that's for basic covers. Awesome people known. That's all some people use. And you can go away and create many drawings using what we've learned already. You know how to do lines, you know, to do blocks, you know, to work with snaps and all foes. And you know how to put in text putting a view port, scale it. I see lots of people who don't know paper space don't over differences toward everything. Any model space that you already well ahead of those people. So now we're going to look at some more advanced commands that could make your life easier . So make sure you've service. We will close this now we will brand new drawing. Okay. Are we back in model space? Ready to jargon. So? So I'm going to show you first. We're going to talk about the grapes now. If we draw a rectangle like so Andi, it's dry circle if we If we highlight an object, we click on objects. One of the easiest ways to manipulate objects is by using these grips on the grips. Are these blue squares that come up on you? Get from on the edges on the intersections. The end point on the mid points. Okay, If you click one of those, you've now grab hold of it. I knew could move. It's about you could manipulates it like so. Okay, if you hold down, shift key on moving, it will snap. It will be like turning on all foe. So it's at 90 degrees. Okay, so if you want to move this straight up straight up the page where hold on shift and you can move it up. I just You can also slept more than one. Okay, so if you hold down shift before you click it, you can select more than one. Let go shift. Thank click one of him. Now you've grabbed hold of it, but both of them are moving. Hold down shift and you can move it in a straight line. Okay. Saying with a circle a circle generally stay as a circle so you can move his outside wants to change the size of it. The you know, one will move the position of it instead of selecting V's to here. Remember, we held downshift and selected to If we wanted to move a whole side, we could just let this one okay again. Holding down shift will keep it. But we're 90 degrees. Okay, In more complex shapes Strong Mr Roof shape. You might want to keep certain parts for same, for instance. And I'm holding down shift and clicking. So this were mountains. Keep this profile the same. Well changing of the sides. Okay on you can do it. You can You can really use grips Full things of time Where grips really come in handy is a few a tough say plus turn off way We had a world doing something like that square here Now we wanted this square to go in touch this world okay, You could to communicate so lining things up really, really easy with grips So groups are really useful for just manipulating certain parts of objects. Just grabbing them, moving them about and you will use vessel You will okay, not scripts 22. 22 Editing Polylines: Okay, So envious lesson. We're going to talk about the poly lines and more about the play lines and how to edit Poly Lines. So I'll start by just drawing a random boy line. Yeah, okay. The modify. We have this person here, which is edit. Fully line select a polo line on you will be. You'll get all these options here. And this is what makes poly lines more powerful than just a line. As well as being multiple segments, you can also change certain properties. So which is when I use a lot click out at last Friday value. Let's just put 2 50 This is just units go. So we give it a wicks. Its now a sick line. Aneel years vase too. Make high areas stunned out. Highlight certain things. I use this a lot. We could also go but edit polar line. We could close it. So if we have an open area like this and we want it to be closed up, you can click close and it will close it up for us. It will draw the last segment in Okay, I'm we could open it again. You could also split. And a split is like a curved line, so you can turn it into that. There you go. We can take of it. Fit is another type with just a different type of curve again. Deke of it. Okay, um so say we I say we drew his polar line and we thought, Well, actually, I want to invest to come out and have a another kind of kink in it here or something. You don't have to delete it. You can go to Magic Bullet Line and edit Vertex. Okay, Now Vertex is the points where it changes. So that would be a vertex. That would be a vertex that would That was okay. And you can insert vertically Incident Verte sees after you've drawn the object. So when we click edit Vertex it's taken us to the 1st 1 click. Next, next. Ok, Andi, Now we could break so we could split the line there. Um but where I usually use this is to insert an extra one on its asking. Where do you want it? So we'll put it there. I'm well in certain of one and insert a newborn. Okay, And they will exit and but has increased Vergis is in your bulletin. It's added an extra part to your Polly line. You can see. But it hasn't broken out. It's still one, Pauline. It's still the original. Pauline, You just added in ways that one to free extroverted sees. Okay, let me believe up. I never another time. I use this a lot is to join Polly Lines. So if I draw a line man joining for polar line, Okay, if we could edit ploy line, we only saw it select one polly line at the turn. What I'd like to do is to create to turn it into one solid Pioline, this whole shape. OK, so using our grips press afraid to turn your snap on. I put it put together like that with the grips. Okay? It's still to fully lines. Okay. Bands of touching. So now quick, kinetic polar line on before you select anything you see at the bottom, we got an option, capitalized them for multiple. So we pressed them, and, uh, and now we could involve a one polly line. We slept those two right click and we can click on joint first distance again. Not see the distance between the points, Just enter up okay and you could close it the ends of adjoining, so you weren't actually seen a difference, but it will be closed. Okay, exit out of that and you can see now you click on it. And it's one item us just one party line. So I used a lot for joining poly lines. When you're sticking things together, especially if you go to a hatchet, you'll find with hatching, sometimes with complex shapes. It does expect to close polar line trouble, especially fans don't meet. You've got to think of hatching like Phil in an area with a liquid. If he's ends, didn't quite meet a new hatched it. A hatch would bleed through that gap and hatch What's outside as well. So you do want to be making sure the ends touching and closed, which is good Drafting practice anyway, Other things you can do with the poly line at it if you want something like that, if we go to our properties. So remember when we gave this a whip this line 2 50 We have a thick line in the properties box. You have your wit here. You can also have a separate a different start and end with. So if you wanted alignment tapers, you could set Mr Zero. And you've got a tapering line. FIC on gradually gets infinite. Okay, on. That's the basics of Polly line. You can see it is more powerful than a line and fitness. You do use up or I use a lot. It's good for highlighting things like external walls, that kind of thing, Okay. 23. 23 Linetypes: Okay, So in this video, I'm going to talk about lying types, and we'll look at some basic line types. OK, so up until now, line up fully line again. I tend to use pulley lines. We've only really done continuous line times. So that is a line is just a solid on broken line. Okay? And we can change our line type there. Let's pull down menu and you'll see you have to You have by layer by block and continuous by Leah. Remember when we worked on the layers? We could set a line type to a specific layer. Bil'in means keep this line type on the the lying type for the objects layer. So this is on layer zero. If we look at our properties and Mr Ryan lays a row is default. A default is continuous lying type. Okay, solid line. If this was dashed line type, let me load winning. So by default, when you starts a new joint, it has no line types loaded into it. Anything you loading tojoin line times, textiles. It all gives it extra file size. So by default you have just the basics. But you can load and Katt comes of all these already, there's always different line times. So if we use a dashed line, type on for dashed, I actually prefer the one that's labeled hidden Ravin Dash just May, but we can lead by Okay, so for layer zero line type is hidden. That means if this is set to buy layer, it's set to hit him because the layer line type is, and it it's not looking like that. I'll show you why Now. Okay, line types have to have a scale dashes. You might want to be different sizes. You might want long dashes representing one thing shot Dash is another thing, and it depends on the scale of your dried how they will show. So we'll line times need a correct line time scale, which we can see here again. We're using millimeters of units area. We're talking fouls, and so figure something like 500. We can see up starts to look Britain. A massive dust lines are, and we can make those dashes bigger. So sometimes in a drone use lines to represent certain things. It could be a hidden wall. It could be electric cable it could be, could be anything. And usually you would have a few line types in, say, in a K or something like that. So this one, my represent electricity cable. This one might represent reinforcement. Something like that. Different projects in different countries and different standards. Okay, for, uh, specific line sounds for things like gas. But for now, I'm just going to show you these built in ones. So what you could do, you could change the scale so this might be 1000. Let's make it to found. And you can see this line looks a lot different is the same line type. They're both hidden light tight, But because the scale is different, it looks a lot different. And you could use this to represent something completely different to that. And it would be different enough that people knew. Okay, I'm in. You might want if you click on over, you want to load something else you might want, say, adopted life, Dr. Lines, you need to be careful of a bit. If you see that looks OK. But if this was on a really faint color that set him a printer, you might not see it. Also, if it was on a very large scale. Yeah, you've got so few dots you probably won't even notice. It was a so dotted line tends to hurt best. What? It's quite a small scale. No house. Yeah. And again for click load. We have lots of different line time. So you get these kind of dash stop. Dustin, don't you see that a lot. Okay, so yeah, represents. So you could see it can have all these different lines who don't use that a lot, as it suggests, shall hidden items. So if you want to show something that's hidden behind a wall, but you still want to show it, you could put it in dash, that kind of thing. I'm not a long time. You could apply line type two over different shapes and squares of poly lines. It's just changes for lying time. Okay, but make sure you said your scale, right. Your scale should be something like the drawing. So if you're joining units, you're gonna MILLIMETERS and you're joining thousands of units. You're probably gonna need a lion tile line. Tight scale of around 2000 if you're using meters is units. So you're only driving one. I just use something around one and sometimes commit of trial and error, especially when you open someone else's drawing. There's not paid much attention to the scale. Sometimes you put in different scales. You might try one that solid. You try. 112,000. You try not 0.1 sometimes was a bit of traveling area with other people drawings, but that is the basic idea of lying types, and that's how they work. 24. 24 Layer Styles: Okay, so we can close that drawing, and I want to go back. So our building drawing in cats if you pull down this here open, Okay, It gives you a list of the last few joins you worked on. So call this building 01 I did. This is a drawing. We work done before. I want to talk a bit more about layer styles. So if we bring up our layer properties again, Okay. Remember this box where we set our different colors and things like that under layer properties? Bring up this. What I'm going to do now, okay, is I'm going to look at how we can change the settings and why we need these layer settings in here. I've already gone through a little bit to show in more detail. Now, I've got some settings to play with. So you do this model and someone says I don't need to see the lights, OK? We don't want to delete them because the chances are the same guys gonna come to Tokyo in an hour's time and say, Where are the lights? OK, what happens? Double click to go into the into the model space. This is called tiled model space. By the way, this is model space. This is paper space as well. Being through when you double click to work through the window, it's called tiled models Place. Okay, Andi, I will show you when you work in this. It is easy to move things about. Okay, Now, because you are texting, dimensions were drawn in paper space. If you move, your model is really going to mess things up. Okay, So if I under that if you're going to work in this space, the first thing I recommend you do as you come down here and you'll see a little picture of a padlock click up Tony blue. Now you cannot plan or anything that you basically locking that view. And if you've got your dimensions and text in paper space, which I believe everyone should, then you want to lock your mobile views. Your titled model space should be locked. Okay, so someone comes along, says I don't want to see the lights. You don't want to delete them because you've got them on a correct layer. And this is why we use layers are one of the reasons you can now so enough. I'm gonna go. OK, now they're not deleted. You've just turned off the view of everything about later. On any point, you can turn it back on again. Okay? Okay. So that is the on layer on layer off command. And you could do that. You don't? Perhaps so maybe he didn't want to hatch it in. Maybe it did. Concern about enough. This is why we tend to use layers. Okay. Probably should be thought. They should be another couple of layers. I would usually have dimensions on a layer and text on the way we put those on after over and showing you how to create him. So I didn't do it If you want to. If you want to use this drawing, you can other never couple by clicking up. Call it one dimension. Put these on there again. You just slept, actually. Well, let's do so. Did I mention and, sir answer again? This one will be text. Okay. And I'm going to make I'm going to both of these whites now. You see, white is actually showed us black. That's just what happens when you're in paper space because you've got a white background. You don't want to be joined white on a white background, but you won't see it. So why it becomes black when you've got a white background? Something captors automatically you don't need to worry about. Okay, um, number in slut years. So it's similar. Come on. Okay. And then changed the layer to text. Here's our dimension. Slow it down the dimensions and I'll change too. So you might want the dimensions off. You might want to text off. We can do it. Okay. On a big drawing on a bigger project, you might have room named layer on text layer. Um, some projects have thousands of layers. I've worked on projects where you had for a tree, you would have a local branches and a layer of leaves. Seriously, you could turn all sorts of things on enough. So types of book is currently it's got a take on it. It's good practice stuff. Zero is a current layer. Why did you stop joining things a minute somewhere only. Okay. We now have freeze freezing a layer. Looks like it does exactly what turning layoff was a few Freeze it. The disappear, hutch. So it it looks like it's doing exactly the same. Tournament won enough. The main difference is when you turn something off is still there to water. Cut. When you turn a layer off, you are telling auto cut. This is still the majority. I just don't want you to show it on the screen, okay? You're turning it off and you're turning the visibility off. We freeze. You taking out withdrawing temporarily until you turn it back on. It is out of the drawing. This isn't much of a problem these days. Eat a lot of commands and can't go back to win. You didn't have much computer power even have this space. A lot of it was geared towards getting up file signs down. Uh, these days, you don't really need to worry about things like that as much. But just very mind if you would if you were to delete everything if you were to typing, which you can do if you If you were to type into cash, you have to click delete when it asked for objects. And you can do this with any command, you just type all okay. It's gonna slow everything in that space. So everything in paper space has been selected. You don't want to do that. But if something was turned off, if a visibility was turned off, it would still select it. If it was frozen, it wouldn't selected because it's not actually that until it some frozen so hopeful explained it doesn't really matter these days. I think people tend to free stuff more often. But anyway, looking, Elia, no drawing like this. Let's fellas go to model space. Maybe you just wanted to select certain items in the rooms, but you didn't want to slip the dollars in the rooms of that kind of thing. You can lock layers. So if I wanted to be able to select things without selecting the walls and the doors, I could go $2 I could lock that I could go to internal walls and I could lock that. Okay, now, if I draw a window, it looks like it selected everything. But if I was to click command, if I was trying to leave up, it would tell me 56 were in a lot wear. So everything I've locked couldn't be so it couldn't be selected. Okay, it selects it, but it won't do. They actually work deleted. It will copy it all every invested to do. Because it's on a lot for you. That does green 100 when you've got bigger drawings and you want to just go and select a load of things and certain at certain items you want to leave in and knocks like instead of going to go from zoom in and pick out individual objects. You can just look layers. Okay. Color with being through it just changes the color of the line line type. You know what? Now give it a line type line. White line way, its thickness. Okay, So like we did with a pulley line. When we get a line of thickness, you can say that all the dimensions I want to be of a certain thickness. Okay? And it will do. Amis. Go back. Teoh. The old days on the drawing board would have pens in these sizes. So you have a big box full of your drawing pens. What you drew within these will be the size of the nips. I'm not sorry. He's lying. Waves come. Okay. So you can do that by layer again. Just like the line type all you can do it here you can just online way show you lie in Wait If we go to let's draw a line. Remember, in the poly line command, we give it thickness. Well, we can give anything fitness by just specifying the line. Wait, have a lie in Wait is the thickness first thing we need to do on your new install of cat lie in wait may not be turned into display, so it will just display all lines is the same thickness If you quit this button here, What this does is it asks you which of these buttons you want to display on the bottom as you get more advancing casual display more or less on the bottom line, right, for some reason, isn't one of the option to the default options. Return on, Make sure is blue. Now line waits will be shown. So if we give this, let's just get the thickest line right 2.1. Say I was given I still really sick now. So again, you can change that. Here are you can change it in your layer properties so we could make all our external walls went free. Five thick. Okay. And you conceive, I've gotten quite fit. Quite good. What you leave on? Okay? Transparency, Maybe with this hatch. And if you had items in the wall for some reason, you are maybe some kind of detail, something going into the wall and you want to share with fixing into the brickwork. You could set the hatch tohave a transparency 50%. That means is basically seafood. So if you had something going to the wall, you would still see it and it was still print. It makes it kind of 50 c for 50% plus style we touched on. That has to do with the plotter. That's to do with company work for all of our employees. Down with whatever colors create certain thicknesses. Robin, given it line way a lot of the time. If you don't use line waits in the drawing, everything is set to default, and then they'll use it with colors in a plot style. It varies from complete company. Okay, now, this is something I use a lot and I need to show you is in papers place. Okay. I want to select this view part here, but every time I drink another view part is in the square. Every time I try and click, it's selecting Teitelbaum Okay, now that is to do withdraw order. We're going to go for that endeavor lesson. Okay? One thing you can do is just drawing down. It will slept everything. And here you can specify which one you want to slip so you can specify the view part. Okay. Oh, nice one. I will just I'm going to send retitled Blocked the But I know I can split with you, Paul, and I'm going to talk about you part. So I want you to imagine. But this is one big drawing and we've got two different. We've got two different fuse in this one drawing of the room. Plus one plan to not have the lights again. One plan to have him. Okay, If I was to go to layers and turn the lights off, it turns it off in both from because I'm a planet to everything. Same with any of these. But what we do have is these ones here and I'm going to explode, etc. Conceit, view part Freeze! Okay, you poor freeze. What? That will do it I will only freeze in the view port you currently. So if I ankles toe click on the view port freeze here the lights would go off in the view. Paul, I'm currently I'm currently looking for whereas a missile it's not. This one is on, and this one is no really good. Well, you've got complicated Jorn and you, so we may have this one loud. I'm in another part which showed zoomed in detail of the room, but it's got other parts we don't need to see so we could turn them off in different view pots. And you can show all different things in different people. We're going to get untied to an infant in the advanced course. For now, I just want to show an overview of layers, okay, and that's where we will use. On the rest is pretty self explanatory. It's the same thing. You can change colors in a specific view port lying waits, lying times, all in a specific view part so you could have the the lights started in this view part but solid in that one. Okay, again, I don't want to get to advancing the speaking his costs, but that is an overview of the layer style commands 25. 25 Using Arrays: Okay, so we get it on to the more advanced commands. Now, by now you know how to do basic drawing commands. You could produce the drawing. Um, we're going to look at things that just make your life easy enough. So things that could speed it up for you. OK, so you could create a joint with what I've shown you so far. But it's all about how you can improve the time taken different is quicker and make your time more efficient. Okay, so let's draw. Just draw a basic circle. Don't worry about the size or anything. And supposing we wanted vase. Supposing rays will some kind of light in a building circular white. And we wanted them at certain centers. So let's say we wanted one of A's every meter in a in a grit. Okay, we have this command it right. You could. Well, you could copy. And some people, Davis, Believe it or not, you could copy. Turn off the one f eight. Remember? I'm type pain. One 1000. Okay, maybe the next one. Copy. Andi, turn on center. So you snap into the center of a circle, so you see the green snaps assumes you put in the circle. It snaps to the center. Amounted to before under no one. Because you've copied it and use this as a base point. It is during the meter for you. Okay? You could Dio we could then copy this whole line One mater. Okay, on van. Copy this line Snap to the center. Used that as a very point. Yeah, on what you would end up with is the circles at a one meter by one degree Perfectly, except for the way of doing it. If you was only do a small grid, it may even be a quick away, depending how quick you are. Okay, But in cup there is unease E way to do it. And it's this array command. Okay, You have rectangular right path. Bright polar. Right, So that would be a rectangular array. We want an X number Onda y number of items and there is, like, most commanding Cut it. It's just a case of following through seeing what it asks for giving it the information. So select object This object, right click. Okay. And it kind of starts it for you. And you can use these which we used. This is the old way of doing it. You would tell her how many rows how many columns distance between, but we can use grips as well. So where you've got the triangle? Great, but means you can adjust it. So we've got 45678 All right, Okay. Done. Rose 10. No, we've told it 10 by 10 but we haven't told it. We want with a meter apart. Well, you can do that with these ours. So distance this way. Just drug it out for now. Don't click anywhere in typing files. Same this word. Jack it up. Just type one way. Now have we have Martin before? We have time. My turn is what We have five for five before, but it's the same principle. You okay? You can do it this way so you can grab your corner. We have also turned on at the moment. If I turn off, we should be able to trust. Definitely. Just spread without, like, Okay. And you can see it's gonna fill your screen. So if you are, If you knew the lights were a meter apart, but you didn't know how many needed you just needed to Fillon area rather and get the calculator out and work out. You can just fill. Okay, So those and we knew we need to fill that area. We can do it. Okay. Uh um, that's rectangular array. Now. Sure, you look smaller. So we working with some kind of size no show you circular polarized. Sorry. So again, quickly object this time. Especially five. A center point of an array. So polo array is a rain around a circle, basically, and you'll see what I mean. If we slept the center point there. Okay, then what it's done is its Put them around the circle, using the sun to point I specified vest. You can change the angle, I say. So this is the angle between items. So wait, it if we could set, Let's put in 20 degrees apart. Okay, so these items in our 20 degrees apart, you convince Add Vernon provides of by clicking the and arrow fulfilling. So this would be good if you were drawing, say, some kind of posts posts. Were you having a circle, maybe? Or some decorative arrangement? Or you could be some mechanical se gi if you were drawing the control one, too. I mean, you could use this to do a gear lots of lots of different ways, depending on the discipline. What you drawing. But if you want anything in a circular pattern, it doesn't have to be arranged around a circle like this. It could be could be a line use right? Used. The end of the line is a center point, so it could be wanting something like that, maybe 20 that kind of thing. Anything where it's a rate around on angle, use polar and rectangular is a square power Ferree is, as you can probably guess, it's the same thing. I work for every detail, but it's the same. It's just a ring it along a path so you might have handrail. You've drawn your 100 on. Do you want to show posts on the handrail? Okay. And you've got post every meters too small. But if you had a post every meter or so, just scale up, then you could do you could have raped along the bottom. So you slept your object. I need to go under gang distance between Peter. I know you've got your posts along 100 so you can imagine how long it would take to drawer all those and get young girls. You, you don't need to. This could be a curved line, very useful command, quite new commands. I use just rectangular pedal. It's very good. I'm not very array commands or gained best way. Just start drawing. Stop playing with it. It's the best way to learn. I'll see you in the next lesson. 26. 26 Working with UCS: Okay, so we're really coming along now in this lesson, we're going to talk about another subject people do struggle with this Is the UCS okay? Now the UCS is it stands for user coordinate system. So we have been using the x and y coordinate system, your ex and why? And it's bean. You see the symbol hair So X is a little bottom. Why is up beside the coordinate system cut defaults to they called WCS, which stands for world coordinate system. Okay, that is my service when you work. If you work in a large project, it might have its own coordinate system of a reason it would do that is just so the coordinates could be more local. Basically, if you mean if you worked in London, the coordinates in London and I think around 52 something's on things on things, Andi it comes of it. It becomes a bit cumbersome. So London actually has its own coordinate system with 00 being if you look on a map south south west point of the London area. So the coordinates, although from there on the co ordinate don't get too big, and then areas like Heathrow Airport has its own coordinate system. So that again 00 is the southwestern point of the airport on big projects tend to do that. There's also problem where and it's probably best to show us as an example what we will do , we will open building. We drew. Okay, I've got a little spice. So we've been drive this building with X, and we've got why, which is what is great if this building was aligned North Self East West. Okay, no, chances are it's probably allowing something like that in real world. Okay, so you've probably got be a road running outside it. Uh, and maybe the building itself has some kind of down the red. Yeah. Don't you have to draw this. I'm just showing you. Maybe again. I'm not. This is just very, very rough drawing here. It's just to show you what I mean. So maybe it was a cop out. You can see us rotated. Terrible. Okay, but movie is a cop out on bond. Yeah. So you got your building here, and you've got some kind of This is a This is a boundary of a building. This is a car park So you driving off the road fruit here. Okay, But when you look at a map so when you look at that north on drawings, do you usually have enough? Our own impacts based models place. This is just for sure. North might be up. OK, so if you're using actual coordinates, as in survey has going to cite taken a GPS cordoned off this each corner to set your building out. Okay. You know, I'm going to draw your building. If you're doing accurately, he ends up like this. That's really awkward to draw it. Because when you turn off or on, well, your lines, I want to be wrist way. Okay. You could change your Rolfo around. Even so, when you offset in drawing things by limps and quarters, it's really awkward. If your co ordinate is different Deal building. So you create what is called the use of coordinate system. This is a world corner where you're building reciting a real world off a project coordinate system you create and you UCS a temporary one of these based on the corner of that building . Okay. And you do that over here. So pull this down. Quick. New year CS. Okay, so specified origin. So we want to use the bottom left corner here. Quit up. X comes first so our X axes will be along there a white axes and you could see everything now has changed Syria cycle. So I use Yes, he's actually this right on. By altering our views here we are now working. Um excuse. Yes, You can repeat the command Bucs command If we protected and a named when we can save this uses and it Oscars for a name, we'll call it building her. You see this? Honestly, it good to a fairly short time. Zyklon B 01 You seen this? Okay, now hear this change did say W u W c s for world coordinate system. It now says bees. Everyone uses our new coordinate system. We are working and we can change our view. So we're now aligned with this uses. And now we can work away as we were before. But once we finished our building, we can pull this down and go to Pacto world. UCS okay on Hung view. What should be Okay. So now we're buck toe in any time. We can change because we've saved in this drawing, we can change. You may work on large joins that have more than one new CS that have a few years. Yes, it's for different buildings within that project. Okay, So if you are six buildings here lined up each one. If there were different orientations, each one might have its own use. Yes, okay. But that is a coordinate system. It's a fairly advanced cut command. Usually you won't need it if it's just yourself joined for your own benefit or small, complete all you joined small projects and you tend to just use for world coordinate system . Okay, It's when you get to mapping and placing things in large maps and in actual actual coordinates from a survey. Then you do use you see us. So that is the overview. I hope that wasn't too complicated. Some people struggle with the concept again. The best way is just maybe watching video again and create some different aligned buildings and give each one the UCS and you'll get usedto how it can work. Okay, One thing you do need to make sure off we do a lot of copied and pasted income. We do a lot of stealing and got. Basically, if I was to started of withdrawing and I needed lights, then I might think, Well, I drew some lights this morning. I got up, so I opened this click a light. Copy it. Okay, starting you drawing. Taste it. It comes in. I've got light on. Diz brings in its latest layer with as well, So it's on lighting where? So it's is quicker to do that. Then draw new things and you'll do that a lot. You'll build up a catalogue of items and drawings and you you'll know where to get certain items from when you go into place things in you need to make sure that you paste and copy in it and pasted it on the same coordinate system. Okay, if this was the same project and I had lots of drawings of this building had electrical drawing, mechanical drawing, his architectural drawing, and I wanted to copy a door from here and put it into all the others, I could do that. This we would have to all be on the same coordinate system, or it would come in in different places again. Quite advanced concept. You'll you know, you'll learn up from Charl and error. Basically, all I want you to very mind is if you copy something, paste it and it doesn't come in. It doesn't look right, Has a chance room around coordinate system. The other common mistake is you've copied something from enjoyment still in meters and you've pasted it into a joint with stunning millimeters. So in one case it will come in really, really small down at 00 In the other case, it will come in huge here. That's because one of them is joining millimeters. So nature is 1000. Everyone's drawing meters. She's just one. See, you can see wherever that would confuse things. So that's it. That's a brief outline of UCS. Okay. Again, you may or may not ever use up. Good. It is probably something you might want to come back to if you come along. My problem. Okay? 27. 27 Working with X Refs: Okay, So in this lesson, we go to talk about external references or ex refs, for sure. Express just is this. It is a shot version of external references. You will have people talk about express a lot. You may have heard it already. You may have heard someone does. Can't save a Newton extra for next. Ref is missing. You may have seen air messages pop up, talk about express and not knowing what it was talking about. Some people get confused about it. Some people build it up into something complicated. It's really, really simple concept. Okay, The main reason behind express is on a large project with certain items that shouldn't change on with certain items. You don't need to draw every single time. So I want to show you this sketch we created in the previous lesson when we spoke about the use. Yes. Okay. If we were designing this building, we would have would have maybe a lot more around here. So we have the building next door just joined. Maybe so again, just roughly fate turn off. You might have a building next door. Uh, on that something for one. Uh, my baby have you had a big, long building behind our building here. Okay, so we're only interested in this part. We don't need to change any of this. This is how it looks. This is how it came. We're not doing anything here is gonna be the same, but it does need to be on lots of drawings. We do want any external plan, the landscaping, the car park design, any we might have a location plan and every drawing. We want to show this stuff even though it will never change. Okay, so before he this just crit and you drawing don't. I'm going to grab all this stuff I'm gonna make sure on will coordinate system. I'm going to cut it. I am a new drawing. I'm going to paced to the original quarters, making sure we're both from the same quarter system. Now, if we zoom extents, DoubleClick a wheel. OK, here's our plump. I'm going to save this now, and I'm going to save it as I'm going to save it as science ex riff. Okay, so this drawing now is our site background. It's never gonna change. It's just something we want to show all the time. we can close up. Say it. Okay, so when we start in, you join. Just come along. We want to design our building. First thing we do is we bring in our sight loud, and we do that as it by bringing in as an external reference. So let me show you. We go to insert and under reference here, it would go attach. I want to touch the drawing. Well, sign. Okay. We get a normal cup dialogue, books scale. We want the same scale. But rarely you will really change. This usually just set it on auto insertion part. You could specify onscreen in this case because it's to the same coordinates. We just want to have it have our based 0.0 Because that's the base point. It will be majority no rotation, and it's up millimeters. Okay, So really change anything really of them Take off. Okay. No. If resuming students, you could say our drawing. But we haven't paste addressing. We haven't inserted it in. All we've done is attach it. So I want you to think of this. Imagine if you were drawing onto tracing paper a new laid back tracing paper over top of a paper map with the buildings on. And when you drew your design on the tracing paper in the correct place. Okay, the map is sitting behind the tracing paper. It's not on the tracing paper. The only thing on your tracing paper would be the building, and you could take it on and off the map. Okay, That is what's happening in this drawing. If you try to sweat that, it's like the whole thing. This is being viewed beneath your drawing on. All cut is doing When you attach an X ref, you're telling card. When you opened this drawing, I want you to open. We ever joining the background so I can see it. Okay, So if we on our building drawing now, if we were to save this so you know, buildings right now, complete this. We'll do that again on here. We will go to insert touch, make sure it's drawing inside extra. Okay. We've always off okay. When it brings it in the correct place, the only actual drawing items in this little is the building. But when it opens this, it brings I'm about ground. Okay? Now, the main benefit doing this? Always a few benefits. Actually, you only have one file of this program. Okay, Imagine we have 10 departments in our design office architectural, electoral, electrical, mechanical and so on. And they all hot the design of this building world all working on the same design. And we all of this later if it's changed. If someone came along and says, Well, actually, we're going to change his car park, we're going to move this line out. You would have to go into every drawing and then change it with an extra. If you don't need to do about, we could open our site layout and we could say, OK, from now on, this car part is actually when I use grips Shift shift. Sorry. Shift. If this kind of talk is now only going to be half the size, it's just going to be like, you know, aside, extra George, I save it. Okay, everyone who's using Mrs an extra forget if I've got it open. Look at this little message. Reload. Click it to reload, and it changes. So it will. It will change automatically. Okay. And the next time anyone opens his drawing, it will it was just incorporate over changes so that change only needs to be doing. I'm not one, George, because we're viewing not joining my background, it will update automatically now. In reality, you would probably have this site plumb has an extra The design of the external walls and windows would be another ex ref. Internal out would be saved as an extra. So when the electrical design it came in, he would bring you cite little extra external electric, the internal electric, and he would just on his drive. The only thing he would add on his drawing would be lights may elect of electrical items. Okay, if the active vent changed, that internal wall may be moved it down here on his drawing. It would automatically change all we ever drawing because it was an extra. Yep. So I hope that makes sense that that is the main benefit of extracts. You only need to change the one dry and everyone else is doing changes. Little eyes on a large project. You have lots, lots of different versions. The fashion these days on larger projects is toe only draw but a particular item in that particular file. So the electrical engineer will only draw his electrical items, and that will be his electrical model. The architect will only draw his architectural items in his model. On so and so on, all those models will be saved and coming, brought in on other people's models and drawings. So what you have on the large projects is a drawing is just a collection of models. A drawing. Being the title block on the text will just be a collection of lots of ex riffs brought in lots of extra for models brought in. And then you can create, which ever drawn you one by using those extra s using layer styles, turning things on and off in view parts or in the model. I didn't text on the paper, OK, but you would do that by using a combination of X rift models. And again, you will. If you go into a company or you're in a company where they work that way, the best ways to do it and see it working for itself and it will become quiet is quite a good way to work. It does cut down on sizes. A lot of it's driven in this damage by the email. I tend to email joins around Robin printing a mountain, sending him. So you just need to email a particular model. Andi. Generally, people will have the site loud. So everyone working on the plan on the project will have the site layout on. The architects lower only get sent. The things they need that may have changed. And it's just a case of bringing him in your ex referee place in the old extra. Yeah, I'm not a no overview of extra s really is one of those things. You just get to know best by using it. But hopefully I've taught you enough so that you know what someone's talking about. If they tell you an extra fee is missing from a drawing, that is a problem. Sometimes if you were to some is drawing out as it waas. So you just saved it. You went to file, say, and you sent it and you didn't check the X riffs. Okay, so you could go to manage acts refs here, just do it close up properties box. So this is a list of the extracts in your drawing. So we have our drawing building on. Underrated. We have site actress. Okay, which is this? All this and that could be found been exposed. The extract can be found. Didn't matter. And again, on large projects, this could be a very, very long string of files and folders. So if you were to service drawn and send this one file building a one, it wouldn't include the extra. And you find Lord, that's how it would end up looking. So you do need to make sure if you want to send some of a full cut file and you need to send him the X refs as well. Okay. Well, look, it ways you can combine that in an advanced course, but for now, just make sure you send all the files. I need it. But then if you change for building, allow the next time, you don't need to send this because he already has the extra. OK, so what's the benefit of on lies? An overview off Petrus 28. 28 Working with PDF Files: Okay, So in this lesson, I want to talk about pdf files. These get used a lot. The reason being sighs if you want to send the drawing to someone joins could be very big as a file size. But also, you don't always want to sensible look, actual cut file. These fails are products of design that can be worth a lot of money. You don't necessarily want someone tough. All the information Let me open out. Building Layla again. So you might want to send someone room full. Maybe for a member of this election detail in here. So you might want him to see that, not see the rest of the drawing. If you send him a cut file, he has access to the whole thing. You can go in here. It can measure this wall. You could think. Well, I know what this window sizes. So I know what the lights are. You might not want that. You might want someone to only see this room. Probably not use that much in this sense, but certainly mechanical engineering you don't want sometimes the whole design, other machine or a machine part, you might just want them to have a new image. Just this drawing on when we talk about drawings, Remember, this is a drawing that is a model. So this could contain a lot of information. This is just what you see on screen. This is a drawing. You might want someone to only have the drawing. Okay, So what we tend to do is returned to export. It was a pdf on this is like printing. You get your options. Okay. Precision Expo. Current layout sets up. Okay. We're going to save it under all right. Documents. Okay. In their game safe. Okay. No, we have all paid death here. We could send out somewhere sunny 91 k b. Open up here is Mrs on the drawing. But you can't do anything with this. It's a pdf. You cannot change that. You couldnt opening, captain, start moving walls around things. It's an image. You tend to do that a lot. He turned to use pdf's in the industry. Okay, Now, what can happen is some fake and go the other way. Final Put a new George. You are going to be doing a lot of p. D. Efs asked for any of them Unfortunately, engine is surveyors, Whoever they just don't a lot of atomic don't in the stuff of difference between a pdf and a model style. Okay, Pdf, being just best model file being something in cut. But you can end it. Okay, so you'll get given one of these and pdf, I'm gonna say I want you to change the size of these rooms and you say, Well, I don't have the drawing. You say? Yes, you know it is here, but this is a pdf it's not cut from. In order to change this, you would need to You don't have the cup file all redraw it. Some companies don't like giving out cut files, and rightly so, if there's a lot of work and design got into it. So if you are given a pdf, you don't have access to that design behind it to change it. But you might, for instance, say you just wanted to show this as a background, just like we did with an extra. If you just want to draw on top, you just want to show that you are going to put a fire extinguishing this corner and maybe one here or a fire exit sign here or something on. You don't need to draw this, okay? No, because it's the drawing. Is pdf. It does have certain laws, and it depends where abouts in the world you over copyright issues because this has been drawn by someone being produced of his copyright there. So you do need to be careful using PDFs as the base of your drawing. Okay? But I'm just going to show you it may be you have. You can do this with, like, an old hands drawing, which was never in cut when you need it in caps. So you need to read producer. So it's the same principle, just like we inserted an extra. Okay, we could touch pdf smells so you could bring this in. Okay, I just leave those blank. And if we zoom extents, it looks like our original cut file. Okay, But it's superior, but you cannot select any of us. It's not extra if it's a is the actual pdf. Okay, You will see, because pdf itself keep some kind of some cut data in the background. If you have the pdf has just being saved from card. You can even snap to certain elements because it saves that cut data in the background of a pdf. If your pdf has been scanned in on a photo copy and it is a scan you won't be able to is never being cut. I could file. It's always just been scammed image. So bear in mind. But what you can do now is you can use our scale command. Okay, I remember I was scale reference. So we select the base point, we typing after reference. Okay, So what happened outside? It is. We now want it to be 25. So all you need is a dimensional drawing, and you can may not join to scale. So now where we measure, it's 999.952 nights. Never gonna be exact because you're scaling, but it is as good as 10 found. You could now put a fire extinguisher. We'll put fire exit. Sign on. You don't need to read your the whole thing. If you were to go to paper space press F seven, turn out. Great. How much? We had our own title block here. You could soon this in. You could change the view. Port so you don't see the original title block, okay? And it looks as good as doing your enjoy, but we only passed to yours in this drawing. Here again, this isn't to be used to steal anyone's work or copyright. This is for times when you don't have when it's an old hon drawing or you just don't have access to the file and you need it. Maybe you've lost your original drawing file and you only have a pdf. You save. This does come in hundreds. Okay, but remain time. Your work with PDS is to save us pdf and send them out. That is an overview off working with P D EFS. 29. 29 Extra Commands: So in the last lesson of his costs, I just like to show you a few extra items, but for every reason didn't fit into one of the chapters, but that will come in useful. So the 1st 1 and we may have touched on this already is draw order. Okay, when you draw in, also cut because it's Afridi Package as well as the X and Y coordinates. We also have a set coordinates. No, in this case, with excellent the bottom on. Why it besides, that would actually be coming out of a screen towards you. So if we look at one of the Freedy views, this is our drawing, you conceive, is that now. So if we take the corner of this world, for instance, Said would be where the purple line is, B. Afridi, the height of that wall. Okay, even when you drawing two D, which we've done here, items that are on top of each other. So let me draw a circle here. So this circle, this blue circle is drawn on top of this wall. The fact you conceive a blue circle means for Blue Circle is actually sitting on top of a war, even wherever in the same place. In the set, one has to be above fever in terms of the display order. Okay, so the blue is a both for white wall in display out Now. If I right click here, I could go to draw order. Okay. Click sent about. So what you can see here is the wall is now above for blue circle. Indra Order, display all that draught of your order. Same thing. OK, so it might be that sometimes you open a drawing and things looked like that. I just wanted to explain to you why you would say that, Andi, in order to change it, it's just a case of right clicking. Go to draw order. You can bring something above and other objects and under an object. Or you could just bring that to the front. Okay, so I just wanted to show you that in case you open the drawing and something wasn't displaying problem, that is what causes it. Another option I want to show you is something that you could turn on enough but really does feed up cat and you'll, if you go to someone's computer has been using cat for a while. It will probably be settled this way. Okay, so if we go Teoh Preferences and under use of preferences, you'll see this right click customization. Okay, So, up until now you've probably heard me in the lesson saying two under command. It's right. Click enter. Um, and right click. Repeat. Okay, if you right click. Right click. Repeat. You can imagine if you're doing a lot of work that can get that could be quite a lot of right clicking. So if you go to preferences, typing preferences, I got two years of preferences and right click customization. How a lot of people have this set up is this default mode will repeat last command, and then a command mode will be enter if we apply that. No, If I draw a line, right click finishes it, there's no menu and enter. It's just straight away. Right? Click finishes it if I want to repeat its right click. And now I don't have to go to a menu. As I repeat, it's just straight into the command. If you are drawing a lots of a lot of things, you can see how much faster that convey because, you know, having to bring up a menu all the time so you can still bring up right click menu. You know what the talking with properties of an item all may be to use the draw order. Yeah, well, one of the other options, but it really does speed things up. A lot of people to know you might want to try it. Okay, Just in the preferences that typing preferences. And it's under user preferences, right? Click. Try it. If you can't get on with it, turn it back off. But it's a good to Okay, I'm a final thing I want to talk about is the perch command, So cut files generally. As we've said, it's not much of an issue these days. It used to bay, but if you start bringing in lots of blocks and lots of lying types and lots of ways, you can end up with quite a large file size. You can bring in save its light, which brings in its layer with it lighting. If you mentally over lights, the layer may stay in a line. Type may stay in your drawing it, but it's not being used on anything and all the other information creates extra file signs . And then you go to email, a file and your email system at work. Say's Well, our limit is 10. Meghan your during his 12 megabytes. Okay, what do you do? Well, you can purge the drawing. So typing purge. Do you, uh G e and all these items here? Items that you've brought in on the ones you've brought him are not being used can actually be purged out. So if you were to call Pearl Joel and it will ask you about all the items, then you can purge out all the atoms. You know, using it might really get a file size down. OK, so that's just something worth bearing in mind again. It doesn't tend to be as much of a problem these days. Years ago, we pushed everything just to get it on a disco, ever. But these days, it doesn't seem to be as much of an issue. But it's just one of those things worth bearing in mind. 30. 30 Summing Up: Okay, so that's the end of the beginners auto cut 2018 costs. You would have learned a lot over this cost from the basic commands. They draw commands, line and polite right through to working with ex refs and pdf's. As you can see from a number of buttons and menus, there's a whole lot more to learn in order cut. It can get complicated, but it really is as complicated as you want to make it. Just using these commands and the things we've learned you can do most drawings ver main things on top of what Woodward today is for Freedy items. So this course was a basic two D costs. I'm a drawing we have done is a two D drawing, but also cut is also Afridi package. This office could have been modeled in full free day. The windows could have glass in. You could see for it. You could walk through it, fly for it. You could see how it will look, and you could render it photo realistically, even down to the decoration. In the color of the walls. You can even model the lights and see how the shadows will fall at certain times of day Article is a very, very powerful software, same up. Oh, I would say a small percentage of companies out there using or to cut use it to its full extent. What we've learned to his cost is probably what most of the people music for, which is basic two D drawings. I will be released in a course in the free day side of all time. I will be releasing a cost shortly, and it may already be available while you watch you miss. That will go into more depth. Andi will be Afridi costs as well. I will be released in the car shortly, but we'll go into more depth, and that will be aimed at people who want to really dive into these different options. Learn how to customize things. So set up your own templates. Set up your own textiles line styles have all that there. The customization side of also cut is something that can really speed things up. And if you're a cup manager, you got a few of a CAD technicians working with you having templates and your own format for things that text and dimensions really doesn't make sense it makes all the joys look the same. It doesn't look good, to be honest, in a company when everyone's using different textiles and sizes and dimensions, it just doesn't look professional. So you you do want to be setting up company standards, and I'll be showing you how to do that. In the course, I will be releasing a Freedy costs as well. So this will show you how to model buildings such as this in full free day. And we'll be looking at all the different options available for that and how you can draw in Freedy using auto cut. There will also be courses in Rev it, which is the BIM Autodesk's BIM software, which takes Freedy designs a whole new level as well as causes in me over or to death software such as Inventor, which is a Afridi mechanical design software. So look out for those courses that may already be available, if not probably coming shortly. I would like to create a bit of a community for people learning Autodesk tools, and people have done my coughs, so I'll also be setting up if it's not already set up a Facebook group where people couldn't ask questions, and I'll answer myself as well as discuss Autodesk products with other people who may have been the course. And I look forward to building up that community. So I hope you've enjoyed this introductory course on auto Cut. I know it's a lot to take in. It does take a long time to learn this software. The main aim of this course was to give you the confidence to just dive in and create something. And like I've been saying, learn yourself by clicking on the buttons I'm but really is the best way to live its software. You know enough now that you can create the George, and if you see a button, you don't know what it does. Click. It really is the best way. Click it. Find out how to use that command. See what happens on. Just get stuck in really accounts dress out of. So that's it for now. And I hope to see you in one of my other courses. Thank you
