1. Introduction: Would you like to learn how to make an animated stylish story advertisement? Then this course is for you. Hi, everyone. My name is Diana Karlova. I'm a motion designer with a strong background in videography. I've been in video productions for 10 years in total. Right now, I work with the different international teams and sometimes individually. Animation was always my main passion. It is just incredible that using animation I can create anything I want. I can share my thoughts, ideas, ideology, sense of style, and so much more. So do you. I'm super excited to share with you some of my skills and help you to dive into motion design. In this course, we'll start with a simple task, 15-second story animation for Instagram. This course is for beginners, illustrators, designers, or business owners who would love to know how to create unique, stylish short advertisement for the Instagram. This class will teach here how to get inspiration using resources with visual content, how to create design concept for your project, combining different inspirational ideas, how to prepare the storyboard for your dynamic animation, and finally, how to animate selling story for your Instagram in Adobe After Effects. I believe motion design will only gain momentum in the future. Animated advertisement grabs our attention most effectively. This is why big, modern brands use it. Try out to create your own animated stories to promote brand event or service. Start with the idea, concept of your style, create dynamics even for 15-second story, learn simple techniques that you'll be able to use in many other different variations. Welcome to the course. Can't wait to see your result. 2. Class Orientation: Hi friends, in this course, I'll show you all the way from the very start, the brainstorm process TO the result that build professional stylish and will convey the idea. This course is mainly for beginners in motion design. If you've never tried to work in Adobe After Effects, I'll give you some very basic knowledge of this program, and I'm also going to inspire you to continue your learning. We'll go through the research stage to find inspiration. Because it's motion design, we'll search for a style concept. For your project class, you'll create two different stories in this course. The first one is quite simple, minimalistic, and easy to use for different purposes. The second one is a little bit more complicated, but knowing how to create such story, you'll be able to make so many others. Just learn the techniques, be creative and use your own imagination. By the way, I don't mind if you create the same animation as mine. You can copy it and practice. But if you have your own purpose and most likely will be different, so you will change some details like photos, text and shapes. Moreover, I hope that using these techniques you'll be able to embody your own ideas. We will work in Adobe After Effects and Adobe Photoshop. You might also need a pen and a paper for the brainstorm process. The main idea for this course is to show you the instruments and to inspire you for your own creativity. I can't wait to see this splendid results you'll have. 3. Finding the Inspiration: Hi guys. In this lesson, we are going to talk about finding the idea for your animated story. Story is short, therefore, we need to make these 15 seconds bright and colorful, memorable, easy to watch and to deliver the message. The idea doesn't always fall on our heads. We can create new concept using something that already exists and inspires us. We can put it all together and create something completely new. Let's start with some examples. Here, you can see a few industrial stories with different ideas, purposes and potential audience. This one has three photos, text is changing, it has a website on the top and a call to action which is another way to say, swipe up, discover, it is really great. This ad is quite simple actually and it's really cool. It has some action, nice bright colors and lots of information on it. Animated text appears with the call to action, it is just perfect. This ad is a super stylish animation. It doesn't have a call to action. It looks more like here we are and here's our style. It works the best for the big companies but for the smaller projects, it is much better to tell the audience what do you offer using text overlays. Like here, there is a lot of text, you read this and you know what it's about but the speed of animation is too slow. We can lose attention of our potential client during these seconds without much actions. Remember, everything is accelerating nowadays. This example looks good and has a lot of text but it is just two seconds instead of 15. Why don't we use all the potential? It doesn't grab our attention on a particular part of the message. Similar to the previous example, looks good and animation is nice but it is just a few seconds. The message isn't clear. Well the good thing, it has is swipe up. To find some inspiration, I usually go to Pinterest. I scroll the content until I find what I really like. When I create a beak animated project, I spend more time on Behance or other resources. But for the short story, we'll find plenty of ideas in Pinterest. Here's what you are looking for style in general, color palettes, video/ animated content, collages, fonts, and shapes. The content that inspires us. I like this style, colored text looks unusual. I'm pretty sure I can use such effect in my second story and I will show you how. Here we see some products art, looks very inspiring. This is a stop motion. We want to use this technique in our animation but I like the idea of products movement. We can use this. This is a great example of movements and I think I'm going to use such movement. I will add some shapes and different colors to it. For the second story, I like very much such color palette. I like shapes they use here and the way they put photographs in it looks amazing. I like this design as well, black and white illustration with a bright background. Here is a black and white photo with colored shapes. I'm not sure how I can use something like this in my animation but this concept is very close to mine and I really like it, which is important. I like this plant on the back and I'm definitely going to use flora in my concept, this is amazing. As for the Skillshare by the way, with the photo and texts movements, just perfect. Finally, here are my references for the first animation. I'm going to use folders of product similar to these and here I like colors and the smooth shapes and the thin white line. In this video, I like the object movements. I will try to do something similar. Next references are for the second animation. Here colors are great and once again, photos combined with different shapes. I like this design idea. I also like this little plant on the left top corner and I'm going to draw plants as well. Here we can see another plants and nice colors, I like it. Before you move onto the next lesson, find time and do your research. Inspiration is a very important part of the creative process with the idea of the result which we want to achieve, it is much easier to move to our goal. If you already have the idea and all the necessary references, then you're ready for the next lesson. 4. Storyboard for Product Advertisement: In this lesson, I'll show you the process of creating the storyboard. Yes, that's right. Even for 15 seconds of animation, you might need a storyboard. Why so? Because we need to create a dynamic animation that people will watch in one breath without a thought to switch to another account's story. I will create three slides, five seconds each, and it will help me to visualize the process. I will draw on my iPad. You can draw using iPad, tablet, mouse, or on the paper. It doesn't really matter. What is important? To draw three rectangles, it is a story format, and to put text and objects in it. Why it is important: because we need to have a concept before we start to animate. Here are the products that I am going to promote, and these are my main references. I start by drawing the first slide. First slide is the beginning of animation. It should grab our attention right away, have important information which entices us to keep watching. Here, I will start with the logo type, and the product will appear at the first slide as well. I show direction by arrows. Second slide should contain the main information about the event, product, or service, and now the product will appear. [MUSIC] Either have a text here as well: sale, 70 percent, and I showed the direction. I will have a third product here. The last seconds should have a call to action. The way you write these can be very different. Try to be original, simple, clear, and laconic. Either have a text overlay at the end: buy online and the website. You may add a logo and the website at the last slide, and a clickable link with the swipe option. It is actually the best. Here it is. My storyboard is ready, and now it will be much easier to animate because everything is planned. But of course, I'm still open to any changes during the process. Now, here is a task for you. Draw the storyboard for your own animation. Plan all the movements, appearance of objects, describe all the details. When your storyboard is all planned and when you have the idea how it should work, you can move to the next lesson. In the next video, you will learn how to bring your idea to life and how to create a quite simple animation for product promotion. [MUSIC] 5. Product Advertisement: Position, Parenting & Expressions: Hi, guys. In this lesson, I'll show you the process of creating a simple story advertisement for a product. It can be any projects you want. The main idea is demonstrating the object. All these pictures have a white background. For my animation, I need to get rid of it. Let's start with the product 1. To get rid of this white background, I will use Magic Wand tool. I need to select white background and it's ready. It works just perfectly. I just need to push the Delete Button, it's ready. When we see this chess board on the background, it means there is no background at all. I need to save this project as a PNG format. We will name this product, product_1ready for animation. Let's do the same with the second one. I also choose the "Magic Wand tool" and select the white background. But here, I can see some roughness at this part of the product. I need to change the tolerance here. Let's try 20 and 20 works just perfectly. There is a very smooth selection here. I push the Delete Button, and here is a product. To delete this shadow, I need to create a new layer and I need to use a Paint Bucket tool and color it with black color, which I need to push on the back behind our main product. To delete this shadow, I will use Polygonal Lasso tool. To delete this shadow, I need to be sure that the layer 1 is selected. Push the Delete Button on my keyboard, and here it is. Now I don't need this background anymore, I can just delete it. Finally, I have a product without any background. I save this image as a PNG format. I name it productive2_ready to animation, Save. Let's do the same with the last one. We opened up After Effects. We create New Project, New Composition. We'll call it Story Product Ad. I switch these perimeters, 1080 and this 1920, 25 frames per second, and duration will be 15 seconds. Here is a format for the story. Let's go and check my storyboard. I start with a logotype and then my products appear. Because I don't have any specific logo, I create my own. I will call it her. Using a Horizontal Type tool, I write this word, and here, I change the color. It will be dark gray, then I want to make it bigger. Then I choose "Selection tool". I want this word right in the middle of my screen. We can go to this parameters, Align. I choose here "Align Horizontally" and "Align Vertically". I can highly recommend you to use grids, guides, or rulers. You can find it over here, choose and try different types. It is very useful tool. There are also grids that you can use to create summary decent geometry. For now, I will use only Title/Action Safe. Right here, you can see the center of a screen, and here, you can see edges. It is better do not place objects or texts beyond these edges. I'll choose "Type Tool". I will change size of my text, 150, and I will write cosmetics online. I will change size again because it is too big. I don't like this font. I want more thin actually so I will choose another font here. I want this text to be aligned so I need to make it little bit smaller. I go to Align again and I Align Horizontally. I need to move this text little bit up closer to my logotype. I open up the Settings, I open up Transform. Here we can see Position and two parameters; x and egric. Now I can change my parameters and move my text. I want this second text to be connected to the main one. Here is very important too in Adobe After Effects, it is parent pick whip. When I select here, I need to drag a mouse or touchpad to the layer that I wanted to be connected. Right now, it is connected. You can see this information here. I want to start with the movement. Here's our timeline. We open up this settings. We go to the Transform, and we can find position here. To set the first frame, we need to push here on a watch. We have the first frame at the very first second. When I work this Current Time Indicator, I can choose another place to set their frame. Here you can find zoom for your timeline. I want to put my Current Time Indicator at one second and I change position. I want this text move up. This movement is very robotic. I would like this movement to be more smooth. We can change the parameters for these keyframes. Push right button and you will see this menu where you can find Keyframe Assistant. For the first frame, let's choose "Easy Ease Out" and for the second frame, let's choose "Easy Ease In". Now we see this movement is a little bit different. To explain you more, I want to show the Graph Editor. It is over here. Just push this Graph Editor and you will see the curve that shows speed changes. Here you can change this curve and you will see how the movement changes as well. Slow here, and it is faster in the middle, and slow here again. Next thing that we're going to do, we will add our products. I chose my products here and I drag it to the project. You can see all the products in the middle, but they have different size. First of all, I want them to have the same size. We go to the settings of the first product, go to Transform. Here we can see Scale. Drag this number to the right and it will change the scale. For the first slide, I need only one product. I will hide these two and I will use them later. I want to connect this layer to their text layer here. This Current Time Indicator should be right here where is the last frame. I need to parent this layer to the text here. To check this, I go to the very beginning and see there is a movement. Let's connect the second product here. Let's turn it on. I put this Current Time Indicator to the third second. I choose the first product, and I add the first frame for position right here. I move this Current Time Indicator to five seconds. I change the position of this product. It will go up and to the left. The direction will be like this. I want to change a keyframe, go to the Keyframe and choose "Easy Ease Out". Here, Keyframe Assistant, Easy Ease In. We go to the Graph Editor and we'll change this curve little bit. Now it will have a very nice movement. Then I move my Current Time Indicator to the last frame and I connect my second product by parent pick whip to the product 1. Let's go to the beginning and see the animation. Great. Let's start on this third product and check the storyboard. The third product should move to the right top corner. What do I do next? I choose the product number 1. I move my Current Time Indicator to the six second and the keyframe right here. Then I move my indicator to the eight second and I change the position of the product. I drag it up and to the right. We can't see our product, but I still see the frame away. When my Current Indicator is right here at the last frame, I choose the product number 3 and I click the "Parent pick whip" and I connect it to the product number 1. The other thing that we need to do to change this Keyframe Settings. We go to the Menu. Choose "Keyframe Assistant", "Easy Ease Out", and Keyframe Assistant", "Easy Ease In" here, Easy Out, Easy On. Then we go to the Graph Editor and change these curves a little bit so the movement will be more nice. Let's check it again. What do we do next? We need this product to go to the left top corner. I choose the product number 1 and I add keyframe at nine second here to 11 seconds. I push the Time Indicator here, and I change the view. That way I can see everything, and I change the position of product number 1 to the left top corner. I need to change Keyframe Settings. I go to the Keyframe Assistant, Easy Ease Out, and here, Easy Ease In. Great. I go to the Graph Editor and I do the same pattern here. I go add text by using this Type Tool and click here in the middle. I will write buy online. I choose a dark gray. I change the size of it, then I go to Align, and I put it right in the middle. I also need to add another text. I click here and I'll write the website. I choose the Evolventa font and I change the size of text. I want to move these phrases by position. I push P on my keyboard. I see position settings here, and I need to put a little bit closer to buy online. I also want to put buy online a little bit up. I will connect the website by parent pick whip to buy online text. I move buy online and the website moves above. When the Current Time Indicator is on the last frame, I can add this text to the product number 1. We go back and see that text moves as well. Right now, I want to add Dynamic Damping that will change the movement of objects and it will look more interesting. To create Dynamic Damping, I will use a script. You can find this script in your resources, save it, and use it. Dynamic Damping might be also used for scale and rotation transformations. This script is very useful. Let's start with the text. Choose the position and click the "Alt" on your keyboard, and at the same time, click on this watch. You see this window where you can put the expression by Copying it and Insert, scroll up. If you want to know a little bit more about expression, this is explanation what these numbers mean. This script works only when the second frame as it looked before. To do so, we need to click "Command" on the keyboard and click here two times. Now we see the previous shape of it, and you can see a small bouncing right now. I also need to add this script to the product 1. I copy this. I click "Alt" on the keyboard and this watch at the same time, and I insert this expression here. I also need to change every second frame here. I click "Command" on the keyboard, and I click here. To change the parameters of this bouncing, you can change these numbers and experiment with the result. As for me, I like the way it is right now. We already have covered, so many interesting aspects in this video, try to repeat it in your project using the same tools. practice and always works very well as reinforcing the information received. If you've already figured out and practiced all these techniques, you are ready for the next lesson. 6. Product Advertisement: Color Palette, Pen Tool, Fill & Stroke: In this lesson, we continue to create a simple story advertisement for a product. I've already covered the beginning of this process in the previous video so let's see what we can do next. For now, I need to create a color palette. I will create it by using the Rectangle tool. I hold Shift on the keyboard and I draw I a square, then I change the color by clicking "Fill". Here you can choose any color you want or you can drop it from anywhere. You can also write the number here. I have a particular colors from my reference so I will just type it here. This is my first color. I select this rectangle and click "Command C", "Command V". We just copy paste. Then I open up this rectangle and I can find another one inside so I just need to put it here. Now I have two rectangles. They are right here, one on another. I just need to take this rectangle and drag it to the right. Then I got to Fill again. I will write another number from my reference and I go to Rectangle, Command C, Command V. I have the third rectangle which is hiding here so I just take it and drag, put outside. I have three rectangles, the third one is here. I just need to drag it to the right and I go to Fill and the write the third color. This is my color palette for this story. Colors look very different in different combination. This is why it is important to think about your palette to choose the best colors that you will use. But to speed up the process, you can use the pallets that already exist. For example, for this story, I decided to use the palette for my reference. You can also find plenty of combinations in the Internet. Right now, I need to rename this layer. I click "Enter" on the keyboard and I write palette. Another great tool that I want to introduce to you, it is a Pen tool right here. This instrument is one of the main in Adobe After Effects. There are so many ways to use it. For example, you can use it to create a frame-by-frame animation. I will use it to create a shape. Before this, be sure that there are no layer selected here. To deselect this layer, you need to click in some area without layers. For example, I open this settings, and I can click here, then you will create a new layer by drawing the shape. If you never had any experience in Illustrator, it will be a little bit challenging for you because when you draw by this tool, you click and then you drag these handles. You can change these handles by clicking here and changing the direction. I go to Fill and I will choose color from my palette. I will also give it a name, blue 1, and I deselect this layer. I create another shape, I name it blue too. I deselect the layer and I draw the third shape over here. I name it blue 3. Then I select all these three layers, and I will choose here the color. It will be very useful to save these layers on the timeline. Right now, I need to drag these layers behind all others. I can see the product here. I need to find on the timeline the product_1. Then I take parent pick whip and drag it to the product_1. It means that these shapes move with the product. Great. Now I will draw similar shapes for other two product. When you use a Pen tool, you can hold Alt on the keyboard and you will see that the cursor has changed. You can change the direction of all handles when you start to drag the anchor point, or you can change only one handle. Right now, I have shapes that are connected to each product. I will also add shapes in the last slide here behind the text. If you need to add another point. For example, here, you see this plus and you add this. If you need to delete this, click "Command" or "Control" and you will delete this. I also need to connect these three shapes to the main text on the last slide, which is buy online. I want to add animation to these shapes. For this, I will use Pen tool and I have to choose the shape at this panel. Then I need to open up the Settings, Content, Shape, Path. I click at this timer and I set the first frame, then I move my Current Time Indicator a little bit, but my shape is still here, and then I need to change the position of each point here. To do this, I need to click "Add Selection tool" or simply V on the keyboard. When you see the cursor like this, it means that you can choose a particular point and change only one point. You see, this one is selected and this one is blank. It means it is not selected. I change positions of each point. I even can move handles a little bit, and as a result, we'll see some movement. Then I can move these frames on the timeline, the way it can be seen while the shape is still on the screen. I will also copy this first frame and I will put it here so we'll have three changes. I will do the same with other shapes. At the last frame, I would like to have more of this yellow in this corner so I will move this points the way to look nice. To make this movement from one frame to another more smooth, we need to change the settings of this frame so I select all of them. I go to Keyframe Assistant by clicking right button and choose "Easy Ease". I do the same here with the pink colored shape and with the yellow. I will also add some movement at the last slide. Don't forget to change settings. Go to Keyframe Assistant and choose "Easy Ease". Then I want to add animation to these small shapes. I'm going to show you another way for this. When I choose this shape, I open Position Setting, I hold Alt and I click here. Here I can post or write any expression. This time, I will write a very simple expression that called wiggle. When I start to type, you can see suggestions. I will write these numbers. You can try any other figures as well. The first number mean frequency, and the second number means amplitude. You can try and experiment with this. I will add the same expression for another small shape. Now you see, they have some movement. I'll do the same with other small shapes. Now you know another expression. To find more about expressions, you can click here. It is Expression Language menu, and you can find all the possible expressions here. Another thing that I'm going to do, I would like to add a thin white line here so I choose the layer blue one. I click "Command C" and "Command V" which is copy paste so I have the same layer. On the top of this, I go to the Fill and I choose now fill here. Then I go to the Stroke and I choose the white color, and here, I choose "Stroke Widths". Let's try five. I can't see this stroke because my layer is already here. It was copied and it appeared here. Right now, I need to change position by clicking "P" on the keyboard, and then I drag it up. But I also would like to rotate it a little bit. I click on the "Layer" and I click "R" on the keyboard. I open Rotation Settings and I rotate by changing these numbers. Because I have a new layer, I need to parent this layer as I parent all other shapes to the product 4 as well. I can drag this or I can also just choose here "product_1". But the great thing about this is that this stroke has the same parameters as other shapes. It changes shape. I will add the same lines on other product. It is very important to know that this shape has a center and this center is anchor point. It means that this shape rotates around this anchor point, but you can also change it by clicking "Y" on your keyboard. You see that your cursor has changed, and now, you can change a place for this anchor point. For example, if you put it here, when you rotate the object or a shape, it will rotate around this anchor point. For now, it looks great. I just need to add a few details for these text. For example, I would like to add this Motion Blur, and I will also add the same for this text. The last thing I would like to add a shadow for the product. I go to Effects and Presets, write shadow, and I choose "Drop Shadow" and then drag it to the product_1. I will change it the way I like more and it'll change the distance, opacity will be 15. I will also add some softness to it, and I will add the same effect to others. The final crucial part is to add the right music to your project. I found this track. I will use 15 seconds that go really well with this story, add this tract to the timeline. It is actually a video so I click on this "i" and I turn out the video. Now I have just sound. Open this, I go to audio and to Waveform. Here I can see these patterns and it is very helpful. It will be easier to find the moment that I need. I will add the keyframe at the beginning and it will be minus 30. Then in a few frames, I will add a zero keyframe. I do the same at the end. For the audio track, better to use audio without copyrights. I use the quite popular website, Artlist. You can also find a good music for free in the YouTube Audio Library. Here is my final result. You did a great job. Don't forget to pass your result. I would love to see what you have done. In the next videos, we'll go further and they are a little bit more complex animation that you can use for any purposes. 7. Event Advertisement - Storyboard : Hello, friends. In this video, I'll show you my storyboard for the next story that we will create. My main idea is to create some modern and a colorful animation. I'll use a text, photographs, and logotype that I'm going to use to promote this course. Let's see how we can put it all together. First of all, I brainstorm the idea. Let's suppose I want to inform the viewers about the course at Skillshare. Here are the phrases that I'm going to use. How to create stories in After Effects. Take an online course with Diana Karlova. Start learning motion design for free with Skillshare. As a content, I'm going to use photographs. I have a few photos from a photo shoot. I just need to choose the ones that have the appropriate mood for my idea. I decided to use personal photographs because it shows the personality, and such openness attracts people the most. I also have a style concept. This is my color palette, and there are some ideas from other pictures from the Internet, and now I start to draw my storyboard. I have three rectangles and of course, I use the same principles that we already covered in Lesson 4. Here will be my picture number 1. It will change the scale from the whole screen to the smaller size. Then I will have text, ''how to create stories in After Effects'," and I will also add plants in the corners. They will have some movements, and how slide will move to the right. My second slide will have a photograph as well, and I will also have a text, "Take online course with Diana Karlova." It is a very specific call to action. Here I also add plants and some shapes on the top. All these slides will move down. On the third slide, I will have another call to action. Here will be picture of me that will also change the size. On the bottom I will have plants that will have some moments as well. Here I will have a Skillshare logotype and I will have a text, "start learning motion design for free with Skillshare." It is a great trigger for free. Search phrase has more details and at this moment, I can add the link to a concrete web source, for example, Skillshare. It can have a clickable link with these five options. So here are three principles that are very important. My first slide will grab attention. Therefore, person can immediately understand the value of this content for his own interest. Second slide will contain the main information about the event, and the last slide will have another call to action. When we have planned all the process, we can move forward to animating in the next lesson. See you there. 8. Event Advertisement - Masks, Pen Tool & Alpha Matte: Hi. In this lesson, we will create animation with texts, photographs, and shapes for the first slide of our advertisement. I already created a storyboard in my previous lesson, thus I already have all I need, it is time to start the process. We start with creation new composition. I give it a name, Event Ad. I switch the parameters to the stories format, frame rate of 25, and the duration 15 seconds. Then I drop further to the project and I change size by clicking "S" on the keyboard. Then I also need to change position, I click "P" on the keyboard and I drag it to the left. I will also turn on Title/Action Safe so I can see composition better. I also need to drag my anchor point to this center of the image. I need to click "Y" on the keyboard and drag it to the center. Now, I will add some text by Horizontal Type Tool and write my text on different layers. Then I deselect the layer, then I write To Create, on the next layer, Stories, and then deselect the layer, In After Effects on the last one. Now I have five text layers. I need to have them in the center of this screen, so what do I do next? I click "Y" on the keyboard and I put this anchor point here in the center and on the bottom. I do the same with each layer. Now when I have this anchor point in the middle, I can select all text layers and I can go to Align settings and Align Horizontally. I click "P" on the keyboard and I drag it to center. I would like to add color patterns to my text animation like at this example, but I want these colors to move. I choose the Rectangle Tool and I hold it down, these different shapes appear. I choose Ellipse Tool, and when I don't have any selected layers, I draw ellipse by holding Shift on my keyboard so I have a circle. I don't need a stroke for this, so I write zero, and I need to change fill. I will choose another color from my color palette. Then I need to add more ellipsis to create a motion, at the mask for these texts. All these ellipses will have a different colors from my color palette. I finally have seven ellipses. I will give them a name. It is important to name your layers in the big project. It will be just easier for you to work with the layers later. I will add some motion to these circles. Because I want to add frames to its rotation, I need them to rotate around its axis. I click "Y" at the keyboard and I drag this anchor point somewhere close to the center of these ellipses. Then I click "R" on the keyboard and I add rotation frame. I click at the timer at the first second and here is the frame. Then I move my time indicator to the end, and I write here three. This number means three rotations around its axis during that period of time. I'll do the same with other ellipses. I also can write minus three, which means other direction. Now we see these movements. I want to be sure that I have covered all letters during this motion, so I will also add a big ellipse, and I will put it behind all other ellipses. They're great. Then I select all these layers, these ellipses, and I click right button and in this menu I choose Pre-compose. I write the name for the new pre-composed layer. I will use this layer as a mask for my text. I put it behind the text effects. Then I go to the Track Matte, it is right here, and I choose here Alpha Matte. Now you see, as a result, this text is colored and these colors have our movements. I select this layer, Ellipsis, and I copy-paste it by Command C, Command V, then I drag it under this text layer. I go to the Track Matte, I select No Track Matte first because it is a copy, and then I select Alpha Matte in after. Now we see it works. I do the same with all other layers. As a result, we have this wonderful text animation. Now, I will add animations to each layer separately, so I start with how? I click "S" on the keyboard, and by clicking on the timer, I set first frame, then I move it a little bit to the right and I write here zero. I'm going to use expression that we already covered in the previous animation lesson, the same dynamic damping. You can find this script in the resources. I click to the timer holding Alt, and here I add the script. Let's check what it looks like. I would love to make it a little bit faster. I will close up my timeline and I will put it here. The first frame, I click right button and I choose Keyframe Assistant, Easy Out. I like this movement more. I will do exactly the same with all other text layers, but they will appear one by one. This is what it looks like, some kind of ladder made by keyframes, and this is the motion. Great. I want to add motion for this picture, so I need to select all these text layers with their masks as well and to parent it to their main picture. At the moment when text appears, I want to change the scale of this picture. So I click "Scale" on the keyboard, then I add a keyframe in a few frames, I make this scale less. I will also add dynamic damping to the scale parameter. Click "Timer" with holding Alt, and I copy-paste it by Command C, Command V. Then I click to the Keyframe Assistant and I choose Easy Ease Out at the first frame, and there is a motion. I choose Rectangle Tool and when this folder is selected using these tile selection frames, I start to draw a rectangle. In this way, this rectangle tool works as a mask for this photograph. Great. Now my picture changed its shape. I would like to change this white background to the yellow. When there is no layer selected, I start to draw a rectangle by Rectangle Tool and I have a new layer. Then I change the fill. It will be yellow from my color palette. I will write name, background. I chose the color, and I drag this layer behind all others. Great. Now I will use Pen Tool and I'm going to draw pens just using this tool. If I start to draw in a new point in other shape, I will have all shapes here in the content. When I choose my plant, I can change the fill or I can change the fill of each shape separately. My plant is ready. I will just make it a little bit smaller. I click "Y" at the keyboard and I move this anchor point down. It means that this plant will rotate around this point. I put my time indicator to the last frame of motion. Then I go to the plant's rotation settings by clicking "R" on the keyboard. I set the frame here. I go back to this previous frame and I go to the plant and I set another frame here but I change the rotation; I rotate it to the left. Then I add dynamic damping expression, a hold Alt on keyboard and I copy-paste it. I will also change this keyframe to Easy Ease Out, and now we see that my plant appears. Then I select this layer and I copy-paste it and I have the absolutely similar one. I just want to change the position to make it a little bit smaller. I will also change the fill. I will go and change this shape, so I choose the Pen Tool again and I select the Plant 2, and then just edit this shape. I don't want them to be absolutely similar. I would like to add some plants over here. Our first five seconds of animation are ready. Try all these methods in your project. Make a pause if you need or watch it one more time to figure out all the techniques. They are really basic and important. Practice your new skill. As soon as you are ready to continue, join me in the next lesson. See you there. 9. Event Advertisement - Text animation: In this lesson, we continue to create short animation for the Instagram story. I already created the first slide. Let's start to create the next one. Now, I want this first slide go to the right. It will be transition to the second slide. To do this, I need to be sure that all my layers are connected to this yellow background. I need to connect this photograph to the background. I also need to connect these plants. When my timer is right here, I choose the background position, I click P, I set the keyframe here. Then I move my time indicator to the right, and I change the position, I move it to the right. I just will change this first keyframe by the right button keyframe assistant. I will choose easy ease out. I will also add my favorite expression to this motion, that you can find in resources. I hold Alt and click to position, and I copy paste it by command C, command V. At the end of this movement right here, I want to have some part of this yellow background right here. I take the pen tool and I click here, and I hold Shift, click here. It means then I selected these two points and holding Shift, I drag it to the left. It means it will have straight lines. If I don't hold Shift, it will be like this. I also want to have a dark gray background here. I choose rectangle tool, when there is no selected layers, I start to draw a new rectangle and I change the fill, then I can find my new layer. I called it the gray background, and I put this background on the back of all layers. This will be the background for my second slide. Then I choose a parent pick whip and I connect it to the yellow background. It means that it will move as well. The next step, I insert my second photograph. I need to change the size. I click S and then drag these numbers. I rename this image and I will also use a mask that we already covered in the previous video. I choose rectangle tool. When this layer is selected, I start to select the part of the image that I will use. Then I take parent pick whip and I drag it to the gray background. Now it moves with the gray background. Although here I can see this white line, it means that I need to change a shape. We already know how to do this. I just choose the pen tool. I select this point, and then I select these, holding Shift, and then I just drag it. Great. I use type 2 for the text writing. I write take online, then I select all, and then change the color. The first phrase is ready. Then I deselect the layers and I start to write course. It will be the second layer. This third layer will be with Diana, and the last layer will be Karlova. I need to line up all these phrases. I will start with the first one. It will be easier to line up to this title action safe lines. So I just select my text and I move its position. Then I select this layer and I change the size. The next layer, course, I move it to the right. I select all letters and I will make it bigger than the third layer. I move to the right. I will choose more thin font in the last layer. Although I also make it a little bit bigger, I will try to make it light. At the end I will move them apart from each other because now they're too close. I can also experiment and choose the last layer and change the [inaudible]. When we're on the second slide, we need this text up here. I will use the mask for the text motion. I choose rectangle tool, and when no layer is selected, I start to draw a rectangle upon the text, I will call it shape 1. I need to put this layer before take online. Here, I said Alpha matte shape fun. I select take online and I click B on the keyboard, and I set position keyframe here. Then I move this time indicator a bit to the left. I move my text down. Then I copy again my favorite expression, I hold Alt. I open up position expressions and I paste it here. Now you see the text appears with a dynamic damping. I will do the same with other phrases. Great, but I would love these phrases to appear one by one so I need to create something like letter here. My second phrase should appear a little bit later, and the third phrase should appear later than the second one, and I move the last one as well. For now I would like to add plant here, and a couple of shapes here. I copy and paste this layer. Then I move this layer up, because it will be just more convenient for me to use it here. I delete all these frames. I open up position settings by clicking P, and I move it down, I click R and I rotate it. Then I click rotation and I set the first frame, and then I rotate this plant like this. I also add my favorite expression, hold Alt and I paste it here, rotation. Great, I will also add the second plant here, one small and one big. Next step, I select these layers and I connect them to the gray background. Now we see it moves with the background. But, we also see these plants over here and we don't need them to be here. We just need to cut these layers, and it should start just at this position. To do this, I take this layer and drag it to this frame or I can just use cut keys on a keyboard. Then I want some shapes appear here so I select pen tool and I start to draw a triangle. Then I start to draw ellipse and another tiny one. I would like to use the same [inaudible] mask for my shapes. I find this ellipses' layer and I copy paste it by command C, command V. Then I drag it up and I change the position of this layer. I click P on a keyboard and I put it here, so it covers my shapes. I put it behind all my shape layers. Here, I choose no track matte for now. Then I need to give a name to my layers. Then I choose these ellipses and I choose here Alpha matte to triangle. I copy paste this layer and drag it. I choose no track matte, and then I choose Alpha matte to circle 2, and I do the same with the last one. Now all my shapes, they have this [inaudible]. Of course, I have to select all these shapes and ellipses. I select parent pick whip and I drag it to the gray background. I will add even more motion. I choose circle 1, then I click Y and I drag my anchor point to the center of this shape. I do the same with another circle and with the triangle. Then I select first circle and I click S on the keyboard. When my plants have animation at the same time frames, I add frame to the scale, and I do the same with another circle and with the triangle. I set a keyframe, then I move my time indicator to the left, and I set zero scale to all shapes, and I copy paste my favorite dynamic damping expression. I also can put these frames to different positions, not at the same time. It will have a random motion. Then I select triangle, and I would like to add some rotation. I click Shift and R on the keyboard, so I have rotation settings right here. I click to the timer, I set the first frame. Then I move time indicator to the last second, and I write two. I select this layer and I copy paste it. Now we see it is right here so I need to click P on the keyboard and to move it to the right. We cannot see this shape because there is no eye here. I click once and now we can see. I go to the fill, select none fill, and then I change the stroke, I write five. Now we see it moves together. I will just put it behind and I also open up rotation settings. Another thing I will do, I go to the last frame and I write here minus two. It will move to another direction. To these shapes, I will add another expression that we already used. It is a wiggle expression. I click P on a keyboard and I hold Alt, and I write here wiggle two and four. I do the same with the circle 2, wiggle 2, 4. Now we see they all have some movements. We have done the second slide, and it looks really great. I hope you are enjoying the process as much as I do and excited to complete our animation. When you have practiced enough, all these techniques, and are ready for the final part, I invite you to the next lesson. 10. Event Advertisement - Transitions: Welcome to the final part. In this lesson, we'll create the last slide and we'll merge all three together. It will have an organic transitions. For the third slide of this animation, I will move everything from here down. To do this, I choose my main background, which is yellow because everything is connected to this background. But before this, we have to be sure that everything is connected. For example, I need to check all layers, and here I see that my text layers are not connected. I go to the parent link and I choose here background. Then I open position settings, and click P on the keyboard, and I set a frame. Then I move the time indicator and I move the background down. This layer background already has a position expression. It will have a bouncing. I just set to the first keyframe and I choose easy, ease out and I put them a little bit apart. When this background goes down, I insert my third photograph and I change its scale. I click S and I choose the best scale I need. I might also need to change its position, I hold Shift and I click P on the keyboard so I have position and scale settings open here. I rename my image and I choose the ellipse tool. I will create a mask for this photograph but there is no layer selected. I start to draw a circle, so I have a new shape layer called mask for photo 3, I open scale by clicking S and we'll also move this anchor point a little bit up so it will be at the center of this circle. I set the first keyframe, I will change the size of keyframe like this and then I move the time indicator and I make it smaller. Then I go to the photo and I choose a track matte here, Alpha Matte "Mask for photo 3." I will also add dynamic damping to this scale changes. Go to the mask, I click here, I hold Alt, and I click here and I paste it here. Of course, I choose the first frame and I choose easy, ease out. Another thing I have to do, I have to choose these layers mask for photo and photo 3 and parent these layers to their yellow background. Now when we go back, it all moves together except we didn't need this picture to be here on the pure slides so I will move this mask a little bit at this moment. I open up position and I set the keyframe here, then I move to the left and I move its position. I change first keyframe to easy ease out, and I change the second one to easy, ease in and I click U on the keyboard and all my parameters, you can see here. Now I can try to move it a little bit and see what it looks like. Maybe when the picture changes its size later is really better. Next, I will add a yellow background under this photograph, I choose rectangle tool. First, I will choose a color. When there is no layer selected, I start to draw rectangle. I call it second yellow background, and I move it under the photograph. I also need to connect this layer to the main yellow background and I have to check what it looks like at the previous slide. I will just add a frames to its position. I click P on the keyboard. Then I go to this moment and set first frame here, and then I go back and I move it up and when I go through all frames, I can see some moments through this though, I just move it and set the next frame and I also will move it a little bit down here and up here. When you set all these frames, it means that you can control all the movements of the object. The last thing to make this transition perfect, I need to get rid of this house right here, I go down to the grid and yellow background. I change its shape without any frames, I just choose pen tool and I select this point, and I hold Shift and I select this point and then I drag it up, holding shift. Let's go back and check. Then I will do the same with this yellow background. I select this point, I hold Shift, I select this second point, and then I drag these two points holding Shift up. Amazing. Now it has a perfect transition. Next step, I will create circles around this. I take ellipse tool and when there is no selected layers, I draw a new ellipse. Then I go to the fill settings, I click here and I choose, no fill, and then I choose a stroke color. I pick color from my palate, I change its width. Then I call this layer circle 2, and I copy and paste this circle, I change its position, I click P and I put it here, I pick another color from my palate and I will change its width a little bit, then I copy paste this layer again and I choose white color, and I will make this line very thin. I also change the position. I select this four layers and now I need to put them behind my photograph. Although the white stroke I will put on on top. Now I want these circles to have a slight movements. I open up position and I click Alt and I add wiggle expression. Yeah, I think 2, 10 looks good. I do the same with other two layers, wiggle 2, 10 and here position wiggle 2, 10. Then I shouldn't forget to select this three circles and to connect this to the second yellow background. I need to change the scale of this white circle, I open up scale and I set the first frame here, and I go back in the timeline and here I set another frame and I change its scale. Now I see it would be faster so I move this frame to the left and I need to add the same dynamic damping expression. Then I go back to the previous slide to check everything and here I see this white line. I need to cut this layer from here. It should start from this moment. I discard this layer, or you can just take this edge and drag it to the right and when we go back, there is no line here. Next I go to the previous slide and I select this plant. I find it here on the timeline and I copy paste it. It is right here so I take this layer and I put it here, and I move it on the timeline. I will have this plant on the last slide. I will open up position, scale and rotation, holding shift. Now I will just work with this settings. I want the subject to repeat the same rotation pattern. Now I have two frames. I select the first frame and I put it here. These frames are the same and this one in the middle is different. Then I choose all these frames and I click right button, and I choose keyframe assistant, easy ease. Then I go to rotation and I hold Alt here and I write another new expression for you, it will be loop out. These frames are too close, so I will just put them far from each other. It will have a slow movement. Great I will just do more of these plans and we'll change some of their settings. I like the way they move right now, and I just want to put them behind this photo so I select all plants and then drag them down. Now they appear on the photo. The last thing that I'm going to do with this story, I just need to add the logo type of SkillShare and to add a text. In the Internet, I found a logo type of SkillShare. It is a PNG format. It means it doesn't have a background. I just drag this image, I will put it here. Then I take a type 2 and I write start learning. It will be the first phrase, I will change it to bold. I will also change the size a little bit. Then I write the next phrase, hashtag motion design. I take this phrase and I put it down, and then I write the third phrase. It will be for free. Now I just need to add animation to these phrases. I use the rectangle tool and then draw such rectangle. I change the fill, it doesn't matter what color it is. Then I choose start learning and I go to the track matte and I choose Alpha matte, then I go to position and I set the frame. Then I move on the timeline to the left and I put my phrase down. Then I copy script, bounce expression and paste it to the position. I move frame a bit and I have this motion, then I just need to do all the same with other two layers. I'm done with the phrases and the last step will be motion for the SkillShare and it will be super easy. I just choose the SkillShare, then I click Position and I set my keyframe and I go back on the timeline and it will go to the left and I copy expression, I hold Alt, open up position, expressions and paste it to the position and it will have such motion. The very last thing that I need to do, I'm going to add some triangles here and text layer swipe up. I choose pen tool. Before I start to draw, I have to be sure that there is no layer selected, I start to draw triangle right in the center of the screen. Then I name it arrow 1. I click S and I change its size. Then I click B and then drag it down. Then I copy and paste this arrow and I click B and I drag arrow 2 up and copy paste it again and I click B and I drag arrow 3 up. Then I take type 2 and I write swipe up, I click P, and I put it in the middle. Then I select swipe up and I connect it to the arrow 1, choose arrow 2, arrow 3, and I connect it to the arrow 1 as well. Then I click position on the keyboard and I set the first frame for the arrow 1, then I move time indicator, and I move its position, and the next frame will be the same as the first one. Then I select all frames. I go to the keyframe assistant and choose easy ease and holding Alt, I open up position expressions and then write here, loop and I choose here loop out. I use this expression. Let's see. I select all these layers and I [inaudible] from the beginning. Finally, I have the result I wanted, and it totally reflects my idea. I hope you followed all the process and now you are really excited to create your own animation. Please post your animations and feel free to ask questions. I can't wait to see what you create. I also have a bonus for you. In the next video, I'll show you how you can improve your result by using the same simple techniques. See you there. 11. Final Thoughts & Inspiration: Congratulations, you've just completed the class, you made it. Now you know a little bit more about basic motion design techniques. I want to show you some animation and give you hints how to create sites by using the techniques that we covered in this class. For such story, you'll need to animate your text to create such colored background, use the Rectangle tool, and position animation. Then you can add videos instead of water and use masks. You can add keyframes for the path of mask as well. Here they use position animation for objects in PNG format. They also use masks for the photos on the background and animation of text position. Here you can see position animation of images in PNG format. The objects have a beautiful motion that you can edit in Graph Editor. There is also a text animation by using masks. This shape on the background, just like we did in a product advertisement, this picture also has a mask. To have such results, you can set keyframes for mask position. In here, we see scale animation and bouncing damping expression for the workout text with the small amplitude. There are also masks for some text animation, and this circle has position keyframes. For some text, they use effects which you can simply find in Text Animation effect. I hope that watching these examples, you have realized that using the same simple tools, you can create so many different projects in Adobe After Effects. Thank you so much for following my lessons. I hope you have fun watching these videos and experimenting with your project. Feel free to ask questions. I'm here to help you with it. Carry your projects and get feedback. When you share your projects, you inspire others for their creativity. You will have personnel feedback directly from me, and you can also have a feedback from the Skillshare community. Avicio and Lester says of new creative ideas. Thank you so much for being with me in these lessons and see you in the next class.
