1. Introduction: Do you see those motion graphic videos on Instagram and YouTube? And you go like, how do they do it? I was just like Q. I've tried so many tutorials, but once I see the complex interfaces and the processes, I just get so overwhelmed until one day I saw my mentor play a stunning presentation. So I asked myself, what if there is a simple and easy way to create such advanced animation? What if I don't have to spend so much time and money to learn such advanced applications. This is when I realized that secret animations that take agencies days to do. I finished in only a couple of hours free of charge and believe me with ten times less the effort. The good thing about this course is that it's quick and does not require any design experience. What can you do with keynote? Believe me, the list is unlimited. I want you to be able to create your own Instagram animation, Your Own Story size promo, or even a lower third animation for your YouTube video. Once you've learned the techniques that I'm gonna show you in this course, you'll be able to create whatever you put your mind into. I made sure that this project that we'll be working on together has most of these techniques. So I'll give you the sense of achievement. A dog lovers needs someone to mind is why he is on. And the back camera, navy core. In hiring the Irish community. The animation might seem a little overwhelming, so let's break it down for you. Our video consists of four different scenes. We'll do 123, draw, animate, and then add audio for the draw part will draw C1, C2, C3, and four together. Then we'll animate seeing one will animate s2, s3, and for, and for the final touches and adding audio will use Apple Motion. 2. What can you do with Keynote: What can you do with keynote? Believe me, the list is unlimited. I want you to be able to create your own Instagram animation, Your Own Story size promo, or even a lower third animation for your YouTube video. Once you've learned the techniques that I'm gonna show you in this course, you'll be able to create whatever you put your mind into. I made sure that this project that we'll be working on together has most of these techniques. So I'll give you the sense of achievement. This is why I am using the newest version of keynote to utilize the latest improvements that were not available before previously. If I wanted to animate a line from start to wind, this is the closest I can get to. Doesn't look good. Now with the latest improvement, I can animate the line perfectly from start to end. Another improvement was to animate an object along a path. But you see how in this example the car looks funny. Now in the latest version, you can align the car with the path as it moves along. Keynote also introduced a very important feature that I've been personally looking forward to have for a very, very long time, and it has to have a video continuously playing across multiple slides. You see how this video of the hearts are continuously playing, Even when I move between slides. 3. Requirements: There are requirements, only three things. One, any kind of Mac OS device, iMac, Macbook Pro, MacBook Air, or even Mac Mini too, for animation, we'll be using Apple keynote, which comes bundled for free with your Mac device. Three for the final edits and adding audio will be using Apple Motion, which is also available in the app store. The reason why I'm not using iMovie is because unfortunately, up till now, it does not support custom size videos like Square and vertical videos that you see on Instagram. You'll find all the download links in the description along with the practice files. 4. Interface: Once you launch keynote, you'll be able to choose between a variety of preset templates. Your screen might look white and it's okay. It's just that my Mac has embarked mode, so no worries. I always choose the basic white template for videos. So let's go ahead and click it. There we go. Keynotes interface is quite simple. The top part has the toolbar. On the left, we have the slide thumbnails, just like the one you see in PowerPoint. Next to its, you'll see the object list, which is basically the list of all the layers we have in this light, in the center, we have this light or the document that we're working on. And on the right side, we have the most important part, which is the format and animate panels. So let's do a little sweeping first, I'll go ahead and customize the toolbar. So we only have what we need, please right-click on this part, choose customize toolbar before we select our tools, let's remove everything by dragging each tool anywhere outside. Now, we won't be using all of these. So I want you to take your time to arrange these tools to look like the screen you see now. I'll give you some time to do this. Very good. This is to play the slideshow or to preview your animation. This is to add text, change the font, make it bigger or smaller. Insert a shape, flip anything horizontally or vertically, and change the color Copia style from an object, paste it to another instant alpha. And this is to remove colors or backgrounds from an image adjustment. And this is to change an image properties like brightness and saturation, et cetera. Now this panel consists of three sections, format, animate, and document. Let's start with document. Before we start, please go to view and click on show object list. The only thing that we will do here is changing the size of a document by selecting custom and changing the size to 1080 by 1080, which is the size of the Instagram square video. As mentioned before, the object panel allows you to select and reorder objects that in your slide, let's drag this square down. You see how the circle is now on top of the square. This is basically how it works. Now if you look at the top left corner, we can add a new slide from here, as well as zooming in and zooming out. We were done with document C. It just took us less than a minute. This is what I love about keynotes. It's very simple and easy to use. Now let's move to format. The format panel changes depending on what you have selected. B at the document itself, an image, a video, shape, or a text. If you have nothing selected, this is the panel you'll get to format this light itself. A lot of times you'll see me taking some clutter away and this is just because I don't want to overwhelm you with features that we won't be really using. So in the Document Format panel, we can change the background color to solid color, linear gradient, or even radio gradient. Now if you have an image or a video selected, the panel will change to help you apply borderline shadow, reflection, or even changed the opacity. And if you select a shape, you'll get the same panel in addition to an option to change the color of the shape. And if you have text selected, the text format panel has many options, but the most important features are the ones that usually gets a Microsoft Office, like changing the font type, the style, the size, color. Now for the last and most fun part, animate, if you have nothing selected in a slight, you'll be able to apply a transition between two slides, like this one for instance. But if you have any object selected, you'll get three categories of animation. Kino cools them, built, built in action and build out the names are somehow self-explanatory. Built in is how an object enters the scene or the slight action is the behavior of the object while it's already in the scene. Now built out is how the object exits the scene. You guessed it right. We also have the little built Order button, which you can think of as a simplified version of a timeline. We will discuss this in details while working on the animation itself. 5. Drawing Overview: At first we will learn how to change the background color, add a new image, remove the background and all the elements that we don't need, separate the arm from the buddy for animation, draw a curved line and sort of shaped directly from keynote. And then use the pen tool to draw the ear and the color at the rest of the elements at some texts. Then we will insert another shape that we can make editable to give it a more interesting loop, insert a new slide, change the background color to gradient. Then we'll repeat the same process on the second model. Explore masking an image with a shape on a separate file will create a looping animation of a puppy that we will then export as a transparent video. You see how the puppy video is playing in the loop is pretty cool, isn't it? We will then drag and video, and I'll teach you a trick to make the video look as if it's playing inside a phone. At the rest of the elements and the on-screen. I did it in 60 seconds. I swear to God. 6. Drawing (Scene 1): First of all, let's get rid of the text placeholder by hitting backspace. Now as we learned with nothing selected, let's go to document and change the size to 1080. By 1080. Let's save our file now. Don't worry, I included all the shortcuts that we're going to use in the course materials so we can get back to it later. Also with nothing selected, let's go to Format and change the background color. You can save your favorite colors by dragging them here. Very good. Now it's time to drag our image and resize it till we see the borders. We only need the girl. So let's select the instant alpha tool and start clicking and dragging to get rid of all the elements that we don't need. And be careful not to affect the body itself. Now we successfully isolated the girl, but I'm not very happy with the bounding box. So the double-click it and drag the corner two mascot. Now we have our star. Very good. And because we will be animating the arm, we need to separate it from the buddy. If you have Adobe Illustrator experience, you can open the EPS version of this image in Illustrator and drag the buddy and arm separately to Keynote, just like this. But I'll teach you a trick to do this right from keynote without having to use Adobe Illustrator. First, let's go to shape and select the Pen tool from here. Now let's draw an outline around the arm. And don't worry, you only need to be precise along the touching points. It's good to zoom in to get a closer look at what we're doing. Now let's close the shape by clicking on the first again. Now let's give it a unique color. Let's make a duplicate by dragging the shape while holding command. Alternatively, you can select the object, right-click, Copy and paste. We will repeat the same process, but this time we will outline the Buddy. Now it's time to refine this parts to be in line with this part of the buddy, all you need to do is really double-click this queer points to turn them into circles so you can have a smooth curve. Now drag these other circle points until we match the buddy. Let's do the same for the other shape. Very good. Now for the magic part, let's select both objects. Go to Format Image, mask with selection, voila, we have the arm alone. Let's do the same with a buddy. Select both shapes and go to Format Image mask with selection. And we have the buddy. You can reorder objects by right-clicking the mouse. It's time to bring in the puppy. Let's go to shape, search for dog. Simply drag it in. We can flip it from up here, change the color. Then use the pen tool once again to draw the ear. To master the Pen tool, start by clicking on the major corner points and skip any curves for now. Then drag the circle points. Double-click the square points until you're satisfied with the final shape. Let's remove the borders and give it a fill color. Will do the same thing to draw the color. Alternatively, if you have an iPad Pro, you can open the file in Keynote. Select the drawing tool. Will then start drawing using your pencil. You can also draw the leash line using the pen tool. And once you're done, AirDrop it to your Mac. And now that we're done with the puppy, let's select all its object, right-click and group them so we can scale them all at once. We will use the pen tool as well to draw the leash line. Because it's not a closed object once you reach the end point and just hit Escape. To finish. Now let's double-click the square points and continue dragging to smoothen the curve. Now to reorder it, right-click and send it backwards. You know what? I want to change the color of the puppy. But because it's now inside of group. We have to enter the group first and by double-clicking, changed the color. Double-click outside again. And we're good to go. Now for the last part, that's bringing a heart shape and give it a red color. What I find amazing about keynotes shapes is that we can make them editable. Just right-click and select, make editable. And you can change it as you please. Now let's put it in place. Is k lit and then rotate it. If you need to rotate anything, just hold the command key til you see the cursor change to an arc. That's quickly bring him the rest of the elements. To do that, I'll bring the original image once again to use it as a reference. You might be asking, why are we drawing everything from scratch? Well, we just have the original image. Well, this is because we need each element alone to animate them separately. I'll bring down the opacity of the image. Then let's lock it to be able to trace on it. Once again only the corners with the pen tool. Then use the anchor points to make it a curve. Now I'll unlock the image to bring it back to 100%. Choose the object that you want to bring up the color Panel and select the eyedropper to copy the colors like this. I want to give this shape the same style as this one. So simply select the first object and go to coffee style tool. Select the second one, then click on paste style. Let's do some reordering here. Let's insert the text. Typing the name. Eva, changed the color and make it bigger, and change the font. Now for the final touch, linkages, bring back my object list to give the layers names that we can be familiar with. Congratulations, you've finished scene one, the biggest part of the video. 7. Drawing (Scene 2): Now we will add the new slight. Change the background color to gradient. This is the regular linear gradient where you can just select two different colors, change the angle, and vary the colors. But I want us to use an even more advanced gradient where we can use radial gradients. Now for you to change the colors, just select the color bucket and change it. Now, let's bring in our next model. Just like what we did before with the girl, will drag the image, double-click it to profit. And we use the instant alpha to remove all the elements that we don't need. Now will go to shape and selected better couch for our guide to sit on. I'll change it's filled color. Aside from making a shape editable, We can even break it apart. For example, to change the colors of the legs alone. Now for the cushions, I will choose a rounded rectangle shape. You can pull this yellow circle to adjust the radius of the corners. I'll bring our guide to the front and group everything together. Now for the fun parts, let's bring in our Eiffel Tower. Place it over here, and insert a cloud shape above it. Select both of them and go to Format Image mask with shape. Voila, we have the image masked inside the cloud. Let's give it a border and make it a little bit thicker. Now let's add a circle shape. Make it white, then make a duplicate. How about we add a sharp shadow under the couch? Let's do this. I'll insert a circle shape, stretch it, push it to the back. Reduced opacity. Now I want to change the color of the couches legs. I'll double-click to enter the group and give them reflection from here, we can also give them shadow. Now there are different types of shadow. There is dropped chateaux, but I want us to use the contact shadow, which looks more realistic in our case. Let's bring back the reflection so we can have both effects together. And double-click outside to exit the group. Now the last thing we need to do is to prepare the puppy. For that. We will create a new document by going to File New. And because we're going to create the transparent video of the puppy, let's make sure we remove the documents background color. And because the puppy will only occupy a small portion of the 1080 video, let's resize the document to something smaller. Let's say 400 by 600. Very good. Now bring in the puppies. Insert the image. And with instant alpha, again, remove the background, crop it. Now let's draw the tail using the pen tool. And for the blinking eyes, let's insert a circle shape. I dropped the color to match the skin tone and make a duplicate. Then maybe we should group them together, since we're going to be animating them together later. And the animation section will be making the eyes blink and the tail jiggle. Let's save our file now and we'll come back to it later. 8. Drawing (Scene 3 & 4): I'll insert and use light. Drag our video into the scene. With the video selected, I'll go to movie so I can trim the video as I see best. Now to make the video show inside a phone, I'll bring in a phone image that I downloaded earlier. With the instant alpha L is removed the inside of the phone. This K. Let scale the video to fill it in. Now you have the video playing inside the phone. Now let's insert the other characters. Removed their backgrounds. And because I want to have a circle tablet behind each character, I'll insert a circle shape. Bring it down in the object list. Every good. You see the character has a flat edge and I want it to be in line with the circle. So let's do a mask for this one. Let's select the character and go to Format image mask with shape. And this time select oval. Now let's scale the circle to the right point. Click outside and exit the mask. Now let's scale the character to match the circle behind it. Select the circle and change its color. And I'll group them to scale them altogether. To see how efficient keynote can be. I'll show you how we can create the rest of the characters without having to repeat the same process. First, let's make a duplicate of the finished character, ungroup it, select the character, and go to Format advanced, defined as media placeholder. We get this little icon which identifies that this image is replaceable. Now let's cut this girl. Select the placeholder and paste it. Now all we need to do is to add that the image mask by double-clicking for you to know, this bar indicates that you're inside the mask and select the image and then scale it. I'll repeat the same process for the other characters. Group each one of them. Keynote has these smart guides to help you match this kale of other elements in the same slide and make duplicates. Now I already have a transparent file of the Apple logo that's I'll just drag in this scene for the ending screen, this create and use light. Change the background color to black. Copy the logo and scale it. Type are sloping. Make it bigger. Change the font and the color. And we're done. See you in the next video to have more fun with animating what we prepared. 9. Animation Overview: Before we start working on the animation, let's have a quick look at our final video to have an end in mind while working on it. We will learn how to make FIFA come into the scene. Have multiple elements show at the same time. Animate the texts that make it fly out. Rotate the arm, have the puppy move in, animated the line. And then have the heart's move along the line wide rotating at the same time. Make interesting transition between slides. Include the looping video of the poppy, and with only a few clicks, move all objects together to the next scene, have the video show inside the phone. And then use one of the latest keynote builds to animate the ending screen. 10. Animation (Scene 1): Okay, let's select both the body and the arm. Had to animate built in and choose move in. Now I'll change the direction to be right-to-left and maybe remove the bounce option to look more realistic. Now, lets have to build order. From here you can reorder the bills by dragging. And at the bottom we can change the animation to start with the previous build, in our case, the buddy. So they move in together. Very good. Now let's have a closer look at the build order. If you see two builds stuck together, this means they start together. If you see a line between them, this means that number two starts after a number one. Now let's rotate the arm because we want to have it hidden initially. And now let's test it. The arm kinda precedes the buddy, so let's delayed a little bit. Much better. Now let's have the ARM rotates forward. Select the arm. This time we will choose action. Do you know why we chose action? Once again, action, this is the animation the object makes while inside the scene. And here we have the arm already in the scene. So let's go to action and choose rotate. Maybe changed the direction because we want it to go forward, but we can't see it. The cool thing about actions and keynote is that you can add multiple actions at the same time. You see this red diamond, click on it, then drag the arm full words to the position you want it to end that. Now keynote is smart and understood what we did and added another move action that's happening at the same time as the rotation action. They even have the same speed. Let's keep adjusting the arm till we get the best result. Let's play the animation we have so far. Very good. And from the build order, let's have the arm starts right after the buddy moved. By choosing after builds instead of onClick. Now it's time to animate the text. You can choose from many animation presets. There's sparkle, appear keyboards, but I'll just choose pop. Text builds, give you the option to animate by character for a more dynamic effect. Now let's change the speed and preview. Good. Let's move the arm animation to happen after the text. Make the text pop right after the body move from here. Do the same for the arm rotation. After the texts pumps, the ARM rotates and moves at the same time. I know this because there is no line between them. Now we want to have the text fly out and exit the scene after it pops. Which Bill do you think we should use for the text to fly out of the scene? Built in action or build out. You'd get there right, build out because it's how the object exits the screen. So let's go to build out at affect and choose fly out. And because we want to have it fly out right after it pumps, move it up right after the built. Now let's check it out. Very good. Now it's time to animate the Bush and the plants in the back, because I want to apply the same animation to them. I'll select them all and give them a pub effect. Now let's take a look at the build order. Once again, we have effect and the are moving together. The text pumps after this is indicated by the separating line. And these ones will animate onClick. It's indicated by the gap you can see here, which means it will not show unless you click. Now we have an overall idea of the build order with after an onclick. Now let's go back to our animation. I'll drag the bush and plants to appear right after the buddy and arm. Now give them puppy move in animation. Then select the leash and give it a special line draw effect, which has been introduced and delayed versions of keynote. Adjust the speed, direction, and order. Have the heart's pop-in. Now for the heart to move along the line, we will do the following. Select the heart and the path. And go to Format shapes and lines and select Make motion path from shape, keynote will ask you to click on the shape that will generate the motion path. In this case, it's our line. The hearts is now moving along the path. Now let's have the heart rotate y moving lipstick align with path. At the end. Let's give the heart at dissolve effect as it builds out and adjust the order. Congratulations, we've just animated the longest scene in our video. 11. Animation (Scene 2): This is a very simple one. Remember the puppy were prepared. Let's bring back the file. We need to make the eyes blink and the tail jiggle. And because the eyes and tail will be already in the scene, we will only use actions to animate them. That select the tail, go to action and choose juggle. Oh, don't get over-excited. It'll just take down the intensity to small. And maybe we need to hide the tail a little bit. Just like that. Now select the eyes and go to action and select blink. And we have the option to adjust the duration and the number of links. Just make sure to have the eyes lay right after the tail. And the first action right after the transition. One last thing with nothing selected, make sure that transition place automatically with 0 delay. Now go to export. Movie custom. We don't need this much. So let's change the size to 500. Now because we need a transparent video, select Apple progress, and select exports with transparent background. Hit Export. And we're ready to go. Now let's bring in the video we've just exported. See it's transparent. Now. Make it play right after the transition. And make sure to check the loop option. Now let's play this light by hitting command Alt B, C. We have an infinite looping video of the puppy. Now let's give a pop effect to the bubble. Reorder them so they start from the smallest to the biggest. Then make them starts after the puppies starts moving. Let's play everything we have so far. Very good. See you in the next video for the final scene. 12. Animation (Scene 3 & 4): Select all the characters. Apply a puppy effect. Make them show together and add a small delay. For a more interesting look. Let's check what we have. Now for the last scene, let's look for a nice effect for the slogan. This is shimmer. Let's try, maybe squish. Last. You know what? I'll use my favorite new effect which is trace. Let's make it play after the transition and delayed a little bit. Let's play the video. Perfect. 13. Magic Move - Transitions - Export: Now that we are done animating all the scenes that's quickly at transitions between them with nothing selected, go to animate and you can find many transition presets. But my favorite transition and the one you'll benefit from the most is called Magic move. I'll show you some do's and don'ts to creating the best Magic Move. Let's play with these three elements, a shape, text, and an Image. Magic Move is basically a transition between two slides that have common elements. It's cold Magic move for a reason because it really does magic. It basically seized what differences between these two slides are and then magically creates emotion between, between both of them. The first step is to duplicate the slide, make some changes in the new one. Then select the first light, go to animate and Select Magic move. What if we rotated the image? It understands. What if we reduce the opacity? Keynote just understands all the differences and creates this magic move between them. You can even create a dramatic transition between slides, for example, by enlarging of the circle in the second slide, so it fills the whole screen. We can also have objects fly out and disappear by placing them outside the slight borders. The list is unlimited for Magic Move, please have fun and try it out. Now there are some stuff that we should avoid for the magic moves to work. If you want to have the motion tween between text, it has to be the same. If you have a couple of elements isolated in one slight but grouped and the other slight. Keynote will not recognize them as the same and won't give you the animation you're looking for. So you have to ungroup them first. Also in the second slide, if any of the objects have built-in Animation, Magic Move won't work. So make sure after duplicating the slides or replicating the objects that you remove all the animation bills from the element. Now let's work on our transition. Let's copy everything and the first light and paste them in the second slide. I'll group them to be scaled together with nothing selected, head to animation and Add Magic Move. Woke, it's not working. Ok. This is because I have them grouped into second slight, this is one of the don'ts that we have just discussed. So let's ungroup them and see. There we go. Works fine now. Now I'll do the same and copy the elements from slide to slide one. We have a perfect transition between the two slides. Now, I'll repeat the same process between slight T2 and slight three. Group scale. And then don't forget, group. Very good. For the puppy transparent video to keep playing across the slides. Go to Format movie, and make sure that the Play movie across slides is activated. The same with the first scene. Group. Scale. Then pays the same group and the second slight. Now let's place it outside so magic move makes it move it. Don't worry, because they're both groups. Keynote 12, recognize them. And for the last slide, we'll copy the logo. Congratulations, we've just finished animating the whole video. Now had to file export to movie, and let's change the resolution to 1080. Next, name your video. And we're done. 14. 15 Audio & Finalizing: Now let's launch Apple Motion. First of all, we need to make sure that the size matches the size of our video. The duration doesn't matter at this point as we will change it later. Let's drag our video to the timeline. Now we can extend the duration from here. Let's make it 40 seconds. Good. Now let's bring in our voice-over file. Is a dog lover, her neighbor, kid. Now, everything will be doing here is a combination of splitting and moving the audio track and the video to match each other. So let's select the point where we need to split.
