Hope you will find it interesting enough because this is the start off the whole course on It starts with a little bit of history and a little bit of facts that are interesting and that applying to your pit animal psychology is multi disciplinary field designed to study the behaviors and cognitive processes off non human animals. Animal psychologist also refer to US animal behaviorists can specialize in many different types of animals, including fish, birds, household pets, life stock, equine, a large, wild animals. Animals can be our greatest teachers in the psychology. Science animals play an extremely important part. When the researchers studied the behavior of animals, they don't Onley discover what else we need to know about them. But we also learn about ourselves to animals. Emotions are often similar to the human core emotions on. This is why studying animal behavior give us so many clues to understanding human behaviour , too. What is typically involved into stichting animal psychology. It's the animal emotions and cognition or, in other words, understanding whether our pets can feel a range of emotions as we do on whether they have some thought processes. If you have a pet already than it certainly crossed your mind a few times whether they can think. Animal psychology also tries to understand whether the animals can feel separation with their partners on whether they able to grieve and feel loss off. The friends, also a researcher, stand to study whether animals can affect our well being and even improve our health. You might have heard by now about horse therapy that this used for Children with psychological disabilities or dolphin therapy that it's used for similar purposes. We also know that our pets can help with feelings of depression and exciting us on. They can even boost our happiness levels, and you probably noticed that yourself. And of course, animal psychology also includes training off our pets, training on a very ethical level where the pet is not constrained but what has been told but knows what they're supposed to do and how to behave. And when they know what is expected of them, they feel calmer and happier. It just the world of hierarchy makes it easier for them if they know they own place from the start, rather than getting how to please us in a quite random order. So is your dog or Cath your best friend does. Your rabbit loves you unconditionally. Do they understand you when they're looking at you with a smart, loving eyes? All Julie, just behave on autopilot and do what nature input in them From the start. The animal psychology course will give you many answers to those questions, which are based on the latest research in psychology. Animal psychology involves much more that you can even imagine. The research in animal psychology is conducted daily on their searches are not only concerned with when the animals became domesticated, but also with questions such as Does your dog remember your friends? Or he's just happy to see everyone is You can't able to suffer from grief or depression. Does your pet have human like feelings and so on? If you're thinking of becoming an animal psychology behaviorist, then of course, this court is a starting point, which will introduce you to the world of animals and pets. Afterwards, you will be ready to take your studies, fill their on a college or a university degree level. If you're just curious to learn about your own pet. Then you're also in the right place. In this course, you will learn the basics off house training off your pet. The different stages that you paid is going through what your pet is trying to tell you through the behavioral signals and sounds how you could deal with aggressive dogs or even why you can't needs you to read a book to them before they go to bed. Well, OK, I was joking about the last one. In any case, you will enjoy learning about animal psychology, no matter what your current level off. No issues. Thank you for watching. And I will see, you know, next lecture where we will discuss the evolution of pets. See there. 4. 3: hello and welcome to our next lecture. Domestication off pets or evolution of threats. Have you ever wondered when they actually became our friends instead of those wild animals that we know from history when that transition happened and what really happens? How is it possible that they were wild animals for centuries or even thousands of years? And then suddenly they became our friends and the leave in our home? Let's have a look at jobs when dogs or the prototypes became the man's best friend. Can you imagine? The researchers still haven't found the right answer yet. They have a few theories, and they like to argue about them in the scientific journals, while theory is that humans were drawn to cute fairy wolf puppies and sort of started adopting them at some point, the other theory is that early humans were breeding wolves for meat. If you are surprised about that, then you might want to remember that China, for example, is still consuming dog's meat in the cuisine. The scientists hold another view, which explains that in early days human started using wolves to help them to hunt prey. But if that's the right theory, then How do you imagine Wolf's sharing the meet with anyone let along with humans. So the jury still out on this one. But one theory, which rings true to many, is that out of those wolves who were the friend list and more submissive, those over time became our pets in the long haul. Instead of the theory of survival of the strongest and the fetus here we learn about the theory off genetic love where the friendly species win and get the most benefit, in this case, the benefit from having a warm shelter, more regular feeding and, of course, our Neutering and caring for them. One thing about domesticating dogs seem to be certain. Dogs became our friends during the times off hunter gatherers and not agriculturists, where they were relying on scraps of food given to them by humans. And in exchange, they became companions off the hunters in those times, allowing the cubs to become cared by the humans as well. So what do we know about cats? The cats became domesticated much much later than dogs, where his dogs could have bean a domesticated 30 to 40,000 years ago. Cats, on the other hand, became domesticated Onley around 10,000 years ago. Still, of course, a long time ago if you think what here we live in now. But before I'll continue with a cat story, I wanted to know that in the past, people attempted to domesticate many species, including zebras, grizzly bears and cheetahs. Ondas Jerry Diamond, a well known researcher and writer, explains off the world's 148 Big Wild Terrestrial Herbie Voice mammals. The candidates for the domestication, he writes on Lee, 14 passed the test. So what test was that? The test that includes several criteria items such as it should be easy to feed. Animals there must breed well in captivity. They must be generally nice animals. And so one so 14 out off 148 passed the test, as we say, and cats have positive test with flying colors basically the tick, all the great eerie items and got on really well with humans, especially once they start purring as kittens on the hands of humans. If it crossed your mind that I still haven't mentioned where both dogs and cats were first domesticated, then I will tell you that researchers still arguing about this. Even today, some suggest Europe are this proposed Asia and China. So basically, after doing some research, I came to conclusion that there is no one single answer for either cats or dogs. So in the past, humans used to give some foods to dogs, as we've discussed earlier on, they did the same to the cats as a reward to stick around. The cats can still be called semi domesticated rather than fully domesticated. That's because they steal can breed with their wild relatives even today. But funny enough. The researchers from the same university said that they were surprised to find DNA evidence off the domestication. So, as they say, they're not totally wild, but they're not totally domesticated either. So can recall other pets, such as rabbits and guinea peaks domesticated. Well, yes, of course. Any creature that humans tamed basically became domesticated, and that includes horses, sheep, pigs and so on. First rabbits were domesticated his farm animals. Basically, as our food consumption, the difference between a domesticated rabbits and the wild one is a small one. The behavior of the domestic rabbits is much calmer than of the wild ones, but interestingly, Once the domesticated breed of the rabbit is released in the wild, the adaptive process will begin very quickly on that will become wild once again. So who domesticated the first rabbits? Interestingly, it is believed that in the fifth century, some French Catholic monks brought the rabbits into the monastery, where they bred them for the consumption. Later, during the Middle Ages, Robert farming for meat and fur expanded across Europe. There is also some documented research states that at the time some people started keeping of rabbits of the pets. You might be interested to know that they continued domestication off. Rabbits was a very middle class activity. In the Victorian times, new breeds were emerging and rabbits were bred, not only fully meet rule for or laboratory use, they were being exhibited as show animals on. As you know now we have a large number of various breeds off not only the rabbits, but the dogs, the cats, the horses and pretty much all other domestic animals. Well, I hope you found this lecture Interesting. Thank you for watching. And I will see in our next lecture 5. 4: hello and welcome to our next lecture actually is not a lecture. It's an exercise lesson one. You will have those exercise lessons after you complete each section in these exercise license, I will give you a couple of tasks to do as your homework. You can do a little bit of research yourself. Well sometimes will give you an article to read or something to think about will reflect about. This will help you to learn and process the information from the course even better. On a deeper level, you will get what you put into this course, how much you will put this, how much you will get off course. It is up to you if you want to do his homework or not. But as I say, it's a lier reading through additional PdF guides, which I supply with scores doing the quizzes and tests researching your homework. This all will help you to get the best value from the course, so let's get down to your filth tusk. Here. I want you to reflect on how a person who never kept any animals in he's a her house could benefit from getting a pet what they could learn in the process of bonding with a new friends. Do you think it's a good idea to give Pet as a gift to a person who never kept animals in their life but really want to have one? Do you think they should be in the instruction booklet that comes with such gift? What would you write in its? Would you ever give such gift to any of your friends? This task is about your thinking and reflecting through these questions. Just take several minutes to answer these questions or even discuss them with your family or friends. When the opportunity comes up and your second task is in this task, I'm asking you to do a legal research. If you're a dog lover, you can do your research and dogs. And if you prefer cats, two dogs, then you can do research and cats Instead. I wanted to go on Google and type how dog or cat loves You find that information that talks about the clues that your pet gives you when they sure they affection towards you and compare that information with what you know already. I don't think it will take half off your day. Just take 15 minutes to go through the signs off affection that they describe in those articles. If you research dogs, then you can see an article titled 25 Ways to Know Your Dog Loves You, which is published by The Guardian. Don't go. If you research cats, then you can look through the article titled How Do You Know Your Cat Loves You, which is also published by the same website, the garden dot com. After you read the article, compare what you've learned just now with what you know already. Well, thank you for listening to this lesson, and hopefully you will participate in the homework and I will see in our next lecture and our next session where we will start talking about the psychology off dog behavior. See there 6. 5: Hello and welcome back to our next lecture on actually to the new section where we will discuss the behavior and psychology off dogs. Hopefully, you are a dog lover as much as I am. I love dogs, and I used to be a cat person. Now I'm a dog person, but it really I love them all. I love cute, very animals, so dealing with dogs, it's quite a large topic. It has so many topics on training in the behavior and the signs and the body language and the vocalizations and the history and so much more and how to deal with different types off behavior and breathe depending on the breed and personality. So stay with me and you learn a lot a lot more. Well, if you want to know about dogs, even in more detail, then you better get some encyclopedia from from a library from your local library or from the Amazon. But he will cover quiet a few topics, and if you are interested in dogs and they behavior, then you will love it. I'm sure it's first of all, let's talk about the various stages of growth off the dog and how Generally speaking, you would deal with dogs in those periods off their lives. The first stage of your dog's life is the puppy hood, which starts with the birth and ends at the age of 6 to 18 months off age, depending on the breed and your dog's development. Generally speaking, small dogs develop into adults quicker than large breeds. What do you need to know about puppies? Puppies are just like small Children, the benefit of having a routine and off being fed 3 to 4 times a day at the same times, preferably at this age. The poppy has a quick learning ability, so this is the time to start with the training Azali as you can. And another thing you need to know is that it is essential for your puppy to start socializing with other dogs and other humans, because if they miss this important activity in the puppy hood, they might grow up us. Fearful and anxious around other animals on these eventually can lead to them being aggressive towards other dogs later in life. The second stage of your dog's life is they adolescence, which starts between six and 18 months of age, which depends. As we said earlier on your dog's breed and the personal development, as with humans are the lessons can be a very challenging time for the parents. Dogs also show they bossiness and certain behavioral issues like not listening, doing what they prefer to do, and so on. If your puppy is not already spayed, then you will need to know that males usually reach sexual maturity at 5 to 6 months, whereas females can experience the first heat at any time. During that other lesson period at 6 to 14 months, your mail puppy will be marking once he learns to lift his leg to pee. At 7 to 9 months, your papa will need a lot of two toys, as this is the time when the chewing face really begins. The adult hood starts between 12 months and three years of age. In the adult hoot, dogs reached the physical, sexual and emotional maturity for most dogs. This happens at around 18 months, but smaller breeds tend to mature more quickly than larger breeds at the age of 36 months. Large breeds are considerate, mature, which means the personalities are well formed and set at that stage. The senior years begin between six and 10 years of age. Again, different breeds much you, a different ages plus your dogs. Personal development can also affect that. At that stage, the aging process has begun and your dog might become slow and less active than ever before . The dog's hair become great, just doesn't humans and they metabolic rate can slow down a lot, which means that your dog can put on weight easily as you can see each stage of your dogs. Development is different on this is why it is essential to learn about each stage in more detail, know how to deal with them at various age stages and know which food to buy. That is suitable for a dog's age. As we mentioned earlier, your dogs character will depend on the breed that you've chosen. If you adopted a dog, all the dogs and mixed breed, you might start seeing trades of different breeds expressed at different times and situations. If you took time to choose your dog, then perhaps you know about the trades really well now, and this is why you went for that particular breed. The main thing to know is that pure breeds and cross breeds have the own positive and negative traits, which includes the behavioral traits and they health issues. Some breeds a suitable for sports and are the energetic activities such as hiking in mountains. With you are this will be suitable Is farm dogs, whereas many small breeds wouldn't be able to do the distance on would suit you perfectly if you want that love dog. However, other aspects of temperament and behavior are not inherited by the gene pool on Lee. They also depend on how the dog was raised and trained straight from the birth off course. Some dogs will be affected more by the genes, but Alice will be more affected by the environment. If you want to learn about different breeds and more death, I'd suggest to get in a complete book on breeds that can be found on, for example, Amazon. Okay, so let's continue to our next lecture where we'll discuss behavior in dogs, for example, how to deal with excessive barking, how you would read your dog's behavior on what you need to know about the house training. Thank you for washing, and I will see you in our next lecture 7. 6: hello and welcome to our next lecture. Where will continue discussing dog's behavior and particularly, will have a look at topics such as house training, off dogs or how to deal with excessive barking. What to do when your dog is chewing through all your possessions? So what you need to know about how straining off your dog, for example. Off course house training is an enormous topic in itself. It has many theories, views and cornerstones on when and how to train the dog. And, of course, it also depends on the reason for training the dog, too. For example, a dog that leaves with an ordinary family will be trained differently from the dog whose companion to the visually impaired person or the dog who will be working alongside the soldiers and police officers. The training of the dog for an ordinary household, so to speak, starts with understanding how much time you really need to devote to train your dog properly. Training starts with your dog's bathroom training, and that needs to be done a few times a day minimum six times, to be precise. That's in the beginning, so if you are at work, then you won't be able to take the time needed for this activity. Then perhaps hiring a professional dog trainer or even getting a dog walker might suit you better. Crate training is something that some people avoid but create training is the easiest way to teach a dog to control their blood and bowel. Because dogs don't like to soil they sleeping and eating areas. It just the crate has to be large enough for your dog to stand up touring around and lie down comfortably. If it's too spacious, your dog may feel like he can eliminate in one corner and still keep his leaving space clean. The next thing you need to know about house training is to never punish the dog for accidents that you haven't seen clean up the place A really well. So the dog is not drawn back to the same place, but the smell of residual poop or uring. But if you catch a dog having an accident startled him midstream with a shout or club on, then quickly get him outside to finish the job. Praise him or her when the dog finished activity, so that he understood that eliminating outside isn't just allow it. It's generously rewarded when you use clean and materials in the house. Remember no to use any ammonia based products because they smell like the dogs pee, and he might do it again in the same spot. I'm referring to all animals as he, but of course I mean, it could be any agenda. But for the purpose off, easy communicating to you about animals will call them he. I hope you don't mind that. So finally, you need to know that house training a puppy can take around 4 to 6 months and in some cases, up to a year as long as you continue a management program that includes taking poppy out at the first sign he needs to go and offering him rewards and some walks afterwards, he will eventually learn that getting outside is a pretty endurable activity. And as I was saying, a layer, if you are interested in the details off the dogs training because there are specific books and quite large books just on the topic, du please get them out from a library or buy them on the Amazon and learn in a much more detail on how to train your little puppy. In this course, I will give you many tips and techniques and methods off working and understanding your pet . It will give you a really good, thorough overview off different topics. You will know a lot more, but of course we cannot stop Justin training. So this is why will proceed to the discussion, how to stop your puppy from chewing everything they get the teeth on. You need to understand that puppies chewing behaviour is a normal part of teething process , but they also can chew on things when they're boards on when they're having fun. The main thing you can do here is to get things or toys for the property that would be OK to true. What should you do when you see your dog chewing on something undesirable? You need to interrupt his behavior on redirected to something that is allowed to choose. You can also spray certain things that your dog tends to chew with undesirable smelling spray or repellent. This would be similar to a child touching something that is hot. It is very unlikely they will go for the same thing again. Those smelling sprays or repellent you can find in your local pet shop. Of course, you can't. You just use anything that you think that has undesirable smell for your dog. It has to be something designed for dogs in mind. Finally, remember that a tired dog is less likely to two things that align around. So given him, plaintiff walking would be the right thing to do to relief or prevent his boredom. All right, So what do you need to know about excessive barking? First thing you need to know is that your dog is getting some rewards when he barks excessively. If he barks at people and birds outside of your window, then you need to close the curtains. If it's done outside, then take him inside of the house. That's in situations where you can do that. But what if you went for a walk and your dog is barking at all hours continuously? Or what if he barks continuously from his crate? Well, what you need to do here is to actually ignore it. As long as it is continuing, you should not look at the dog, speak to him or touch him when the barking has stopped. Then you need to turn to a dog. Praise him on the reward him with the treat. If you lose your patients in the process and start shouting at him whilst he's still barking, then the next time it is guaranteed, he will bark for even longer because he knows he's getting your attention by doing that. And the final thing you can do is to teach your dog the quiet command. It may sound contradictory, but the first step of this technique is to teach your dog to bark on command. Give your dog the command to speak. Wait for him to bark two or three times and then stick a tasty treat in front of his nose. When he stops barking to sniff the treat, praise him and give him the trees. Repeat this exercise until he starts barking as soon as you say Speak. Once you dokan bark on your comment each time, then you need to teach him the quiet command in a calm environment with no destructions. Tell him to speak when he starts barking, say quiet and stick a treat in front of his nose. Praise him for being quiet and give him the treat. Okay, this is the end of this lecture. Hope you found some interesting tips and techniques. All raising. And we'll proceed to our next lecture where we'll continue talking about the behaviour on the psychology off dogs and in particular will discuss what a separation anxiety, how to read your dog's behavior on how to deal with grief in dogs. Thank you for watching, and I will see you in our next life. 8. 7: Hello and welcome to our next lecture psychology Off dogs. In the previous lectures we will raise it learned quite a bit about dogs. How to deal with a excessive barking, what to do when you see that they're chewing through your possessions. But do you know if your dog likes to To thinks that lying around the house, This also can building to the separation anxiety. So what do you need to know about separation anxiety? First of all, separation anxiety can be really, or it can be simulated. It is simulated in those cases when the dog knows that he can get your attention. If he act badly, it is learned. Behavior really exciting is when the dogs get stressed when his owner is absent. Simulated separation anxiety is fairly easy to overcome with the gradual approach when you slowly increase the amount of time your dog spent in a crate, and that includes the time when you at home as well as a way how to prevent dog separation anxiety. Well, it really starts from the moment you get your puppy. The party begins to cry when they left alone and you pick him up. Nobody argues It's a big change for the pop because they're no longer have park. So when he Christ, we go and pick him up and show sympathy and we showing to him that he's crying is rewarded later. If he's crying in a crate and you let him out, he understands that he's being rewarded for his crying. So this is why you need to learn to reward on Lee. The dogs desired behavior from the beginning. We need to teach our part to be quiet and settle down for increasing periods of time. We need to teach him to be patient and calm and reward that behaviour instead. When he's out with us, we should know. Be attempting to constantly interact with him. You need to get him to learn to entertain himself with his toys. Okay, let's talk about how to read dog's behavior. Perhaps you already know some signs that you can read in your dog, For example, if he works his tail, then it means he likes you and he's friendly towards you. But not always. Tail wagging means friendliness. If, for example, the dog is dominant but wants to check his territory, he will have his tail up. He will also have a direct gaze at you to know exactly whether the dog is aggressive towards you. We will discuss the science of aggressiveness, you know. Next lecture on aggression and dogs. One of the main behaviors east. The dogs relaxed approach, for example. His tail will be down and relaxed. His years will be up but not forward. His head will be high and his mouth will be open. The dog will have lose stance on will stand flat on his feet. The whole appearance off the dog will be relaxed if he yawns when he greets you. He also shows how comfortable he is with you. You won't see your dog yawning when he's outside or greeting other visitors. Another main behavior that you need to know about. Another main behavior that you need to know about is when your dog is getting stressed, He signs would be the following a young and lick off lips, a slow blinking now all examples of signals that your dog is uncertain or stressed. If you notice this science, you can calm the dog by talking to him reassuringly. Some dogs are shy, and sometimes you might see this behavior in other dogs or in yours when he meets are the people or animals. Many dogs can be timid around new people, and there are some over your signals that your dog is shy or nervous. If the dog's ears are backward and flat against his head and he's trying to lie down on the ground trying to make himself small, that means he's uncomfortable to make friends with a shy or nervous dog, you just need to turn sideways and kneel on the ground. Don't try to lean over the dog instead, Neil, and let him come to you and sniff you. You can hold out your hand while keeping your arms steel so he can comfortably learn your sent from a little distance that would be comfortable for the dog. Don't try to reach over the dog's head. If he's comfortable with you and his ears, don't go back again. Then pet the dogs back instead of his head. Finally, let's discuss another show topic that belongs to the section of psychology of dogs. Can the dog grief over the loss of another animal or the death of the owner when people grieve over the loss of someone close to them, they would experience different emotions on display different behavior. This is exactly the same with dogs. Some dogs can display signs of depression, whereas other dogs will hardly show any sign off emotional disturbance at all. And depression doesn't just start with actual death or some off someone close to them. Depression can start when the dog has to change The residency, or even when there is a newborn baby, has been added to the family on its introduced to the dog. When the dog loses his owner, though, for example, the owner goes to a hospital for a long time or actually dies, the door can display very strong physical signs of depression. For example, they may lose their appetite, lose interest in any activity and that their life to participate. The mind display very sluggish, responsive behavior. If you notice this science that last for a couple of weeks or so, then it would be better to take the dog to the vets to rule out any possible physical illness. Can you help the dog in mourning? Showing your patience and understanding certainly helps, but maintaining a routine with normal feeding times is essential to If you can take the dog for walks in the wilderness, fresh air and nature do warned us not only for humans, but for our pets as well. Well, I hope you enjoy this lecture. Now you know that a dog can experience separation. Anxiety is any child. Do you know how to differentiate some signs off though behavior and how to understand when your friend distressed and needs your calming and soothing voice? And now you also know that pets can grief over the loss of other animals and humans on the next lecture will fill the discussed dog's behavior on in particularly the signs and reasons for aggressiveness. Thank you for watching, and I will see you in our next lecture. 9. 8: hello and welcome to our next lecture on aggression in dogs Well done for staying throughout this section and learning so much about dogs, behavior and psychology. I hope now you know how to communicate and understand your dog so much better on what the needs are in different ages or in different age groups is the same. So what do you know about aggression and dogs? Do you think some breeds are more aggressive than others? What do you think? It depends on the training on the owners. It could be both. While he in this lecture, you will know the reasons for the aggression and that pretty much any dog can become aggressive in certain circumstances. Dog aggression is a major problem from many dog owners. The main thing you need to understand here is that dog aggression comes from two main reasons. The frustration and the dominance. The frustration issues can be dealt with by taking the dog for longer walks and longer play . The frustration is when they have a lot off energy buildup in them that they need to expel on. These can be done through long walks on longer play as recedes. The dogs dominance, however, can be a result of the breed and training or a combination of both. The main problem off dog aggression comes from a typical scenario where a person wants to have a certain breed because of the looks off that breed. For example, Imagine a person who wants to adopt a people if the person doesn't learn about the nature off the dog and how to prevent bad behavior by fulfilling the dogs needs doesn't understand whether this type of breed is suitable for the owner's lifestyle and doesn't learn how to become the dogs park leader in order to control this powerful breed that becomes a recipe for disaster. So if you are considering adopting a powerful breed, make sure you're willing and able to take home the responsibility. For many dogs, it's a lack of exercise that create a problem that the results in aggressive behavior. That dog has a lot of energy buildup, as we say, and it needs to be expended by taking long walks and playing with them outside for much longer. How to deal with a dog on dog aggression. When the two doors fighting here, you need to understand the role of the pack leader for dogs. This is the most important thing to know who is the pack leader. When you see dog on dog aggression, that means that your dogs asking you to step in us, they park leader. But I have to say that you need to earn your dogs. Trust, loyalty and respect before he will see you as his park leader. And how do you become one by giving your dog rules, boundaries and limitations? One of the incorrect behavior that I see in the owners is when they change the rules for the dog from day to day. Today, for example, the doggy is allowed to sit in the chair and even to leak the owners plate tomorrow. This is all forbidden, and some other rules appear for no reason. In human terms, we can explain easily when we're in a good mood. We allow When we're in a bad mood, we place more rules and restrictions. This is why many dogs demonstrate bad behavior. They don't see us as part leaders. If we change the rules constantly, the park leader sticks to the rules and boundaries no matter what they partly that eats the gener first and the rest of the pack has toe. Wait. Don't ever feel guilty about that. You don't prefers you to lead the way. That is the nature. If sitting on a certain chair is forbidden, then it is forbidden at all times. Stealing from a table is a streak. No, no. If you need to make a certain growl towards your dog to show that you're disapproving the behavior, then this would be the best language that you master for communication with your dog used a language, which means growling or making some sort of dogs vocalizations, whatever you can think off if you let the door get away with a bad behavior wants twice or three times you lose your credibility as a pack leader, and one day the dogs aggression will be turned to you. Be aware off that, especially when you have a dog off powerful breed. Okay, what sort of signs of aggressive behavior in your dog you can recall. Let's go through the least that will help you to remember them for the future so that you were aware of that in other dogs as well as yours. You don't can suddenly become very still and region, and you might hear bark that sounds different and even threatening. That, though, can launch forward or even change the person. And they might also punch the person with a nose. This is called muzzle punch and the grace of dog can growl, show the teeth and even snap. They can even quickly need a bite. They can bite repeatedly. All they can bite the shake. The aggression off the door can be either territorial or protective, where they protect the territory off the owner, All the old Nick himself, and we'll attack anyone who comes into that territory. Or it can be based on the dog's fear, which you can recognize by certain signs in your dog, for example, the dog and have his tail low between his legs. The ease will move back on. The whole pause will tell you that the dog is afraid. If the dog feels dropped, it can attack. Then the dog will display a mixture of defensively aggressive on fear based behavioral science. So how to avoid the risky situations with dogs? The more you understand the nature of the doors, the easy it will get for you to understand how you should act near or towards the dogs. General rules of approaching the dog on how to prevent the aggressiveness include behavior as avoiding to act in a way that would make a dog feel threatens, for example, by forcing a dog into a corner or getting into his territory by getting near the dog that is chained the dog that is sleeping off the dog that has puppies and, of course, by teas and a hurt in the dog or even part in the unknown dog on its head or years. This all can lead to to the dog aggressive behavior. If the dogs are showing mating behavior, don't come too close to them. And if the dog is trying to cheese, you don't encourage it by slowing down near them. Whether you're on your feet on some vehicle, just slow down near aggressive dogs. Don't let them chase you. Can aggression be could or eliminated the animals? I called you see that aggressive behavior can be lowered, even eliminated in some cases, but not all. Even professional trainers can be beaten or talked by dogs to assess the level of aggression. You will need to have a look at the history off the dog on whether there are any occurrences off attacks or biting in the past. You can try to eliminate the situations and the objects off aggravation in the dog if you know them. You can also seek the vets advice and get a calming medicine for your dog to. But as I said, in some circumstances, especially when you are doctor dog that was trained to be aggressive, nothing might really work to completely eliminate that behavior. Just remember that it's always the owner who is responsible for the dog's behaviour and actions. So it is your responsibility to choose the suitable for your lifestyle, breathe and to train your dog to the appropriate standards where he recognizes you as the pack leader. Well, this is it for the section on dog's behavior and a psychology. I really hope you found it interesting and informative, and you've learned quite a few tips and techniques yourself what you can do now, how you communicate better and how you can recognize some signs off behavior off the dog's behavior, how you can understand easily what your dog wants from you on why they'd be heaving in the way they do. As they say, Alia, the dog psychology is an enormous topic, and you might want to have a look at the additional reading on the interesting to your topic in more details. And now we're about to proceed to our next section off the course. Psychology off cat behavior. Ah, hope youll enjoy learning about cats. Behave as much is about dogs or even more because fill in nature can be so gentle and mysterious. Thank you for watching, and I will see you know, next lecture. 10. 9: Hello and welcome to our next lesson. Next exercise lesson. That means you've completed another section on. We are about to do your homework. No, while you go into it and I will tell you what to do, you're gonna have to tasks off your homework that you will need to research a read or a reflect on. They are interesting. So do participate in them and get the most value off the course. As I was saying before. So what is the first task off your homework? In the first task? I want you to think about the pack nature off dogs I want you to reflect on. How do you think they know who is the leader? Reflecting this question, all research it through Google and think about how you could show them that you are a leader what type of behavior they would want to see in. You spent 10 to 15 minutes off resurgent this question and learn a bit more about the park nature off dogs that will help you to understand them so much better because the park nature is the corner stone off, Understanding off dog's behavior off dog psychology. This is everything based on the training, the communicating, the listening skills, the interaction with you, the interaction with dogs, the aggression they fear the stress are anything like that. It's all based around that main topic, the nature, the park nature. So the second task in the second task, I want you to reflect on the topic off separation on society and in what way dogs are similar to Children. In that sense, as you can imagine, it's quite a complex topic. And if true separation on excited occurs in your dog, then you might need a help of a vet or off an animal behaviorist. You can find out more information on separation or exciting by solution. This title separation exciting on the educational websites such as pet education dot com or pet m d dot com again spends another 20 to 30 minutes learning about this topic and reflecting on it. Thank you for, but it's a beating, and I will see in our next lecture 11. 10: Hello and welcome to our new section a section own cats, behavior and cat psychology. Everything about how to deal with a cat, starting with a little kitten that you bring home. But first of all, why would you ask how to deal with cats? Perhaps you're scared of them or unsure about them on student about their behavior and what exactly they're trying to tell you when they're looking at you directly. What? Perhaps you just want to learn about the behavior so that you could communicate. Understand your pet better but physical. Let's have a look at the case when a person is not sure about cats or even afraid of them. If that was your if it is you, then you need to ask yourself, Where did this come from? Did some catch scratch you or frightened to you when you were smaller? You need to try to understand where your dislike or uncertainty about them comes from. Once you understand that, you need to try to accept that what happened is what happened in the past, and now it's the time to move on from your past and learn about the behavior. Secondly, you might want to learn from the start that cats don't like when someone is looking directly into the eyes. If you do that often enough, the cat will ignore you more and more. If you want that your cat liked you, then Gazit all over the shape, avoiding direct eye contact as much as possible. The next thing you might want to know that you can't behavior will change depending on the age the cats. Average lifespan is 16 years, depending on the breed, the hereditary and genetic traits, the personal characteristics and so one cat's behavior is usually fully formed at the age of six months old. But the 1st 2 weeks off the cat's life is when they're the most helpless. The little kitten cannot even see anything until the end of the two weeks of age. In the first month, the kittens develop all the senses, which allow them to become more independent. But the second month off their life, they can move. They have all the senses on behalf. Most of the teeth the begin grooming themselves, and they develop idled sleep patterns. You can start training your cat as soon as possible. We totally training that starts feels, but the age of six months old. They can be trained to really well, and they should be having a good social experiences with other animals and humans that outside, off the household after 18 months, the cat is practically an addled. He will stop challenging humans as he's other lesson behavior subsides. Then his personality should be fully developed by then. And if he took time to train and socialize you cat at the alia age, then by the age of 18 months you should have calm and well adjusted cat. However, you might notice that some cats get stressed or anxious when they see other people come into the house. These cats get stressed when they hear doorbell ring because they quickly to learn associate it with the presence of other people. Many cats would be pretty laid back with having guests there on the house. But what to do with those who get stressed? The first thing you could do and should do is to introduce your cat to other people in the early age as alias possible. You have to try to make those introductions pleasant, which means lots of painting and soothing boards. The greater variety of people he will see, the easier it will be for him to stay calm around your guests at the later stage. Secondly, you should try to keep your cat in the same room with a guest, even if this kid you can bring some light treats and put it near your cat. Some Betsy that smell off Lavenda can also help you cat to relax. So whether you have some 11 the herbs or oil haven't nearby your cap in such distressing situations. Finally, what else do you need to know in this lecture on dealing with cats? The one thing that all cats love doing and that one thing. They would do it any age East. The play of pursuit, whether it is about chasing a toy or a miles outside anything that moves quickly, even if it's a beam off light or a shadow, make them fascinated with the object. If the only one thing you can give to the cat that's a pleasurable activity, these would be, well, this is before our first, like John Cats. Now you know the cat's favorite activity, which is changing the cats most helpless stage of life, which is the 1st 2 weeks of life that the fully formed personality happened at the age of six months and that they consider to be an adult at the age of 18 months old. In the next lecture will continue talking about cats behavior and in particular what they're Mair owing needing means and in particular, what they narrowing a needing means and why the P on personal belongings off other people. Thanks for watching, and I will see you in our next lecture. 12. 11: welcome to our next lecture, where we continue to discuss and behavior off cats on a particular will. Have a look at a few topics that you need to cover. You need to understand if you want to communicate with your fill in front really well toe understand the likes and dislikes and their habits. First of all, maybe you have noticed that cats love to rub up against the owners, other people's legs, off body and against various objects when they robbed the head or body against you or any other person. This is when they simply want to show their affection and that they like you when they're up the board against the finisher, though that simply means they're marking the territory with a scent. The animal behaviorists say that when they're up the cheeks against our faces or affectionately had but in us, that also means they depositing. This sent on us as if they're claiming the ownership. Secondly, cats have tendency to scratch surfaces at the sharpen their claws, but by doing that, they also deposit they sent on furniture. Those part of furniture that have the most foreign smells need to be masked with the cat's own first. For example, the site of the sofa will have, for it smells from your guests, the legs or the bags. Then the cat will have a need to mosque older smells with its own sent to claim the ownership off things on and off the territory. The only thing you can do here is to persistently guide the cat to the scratching pool or a logger piece of frog that you give them for scratching. You cannot stop the cat from scratching the undesirable things like furniture, but you can train them to scratch the things that you get for them specifically for the activity. 30 y cats like needing so much they do from the air list age when they suckling milk from the mother, needing with a pause. Help to stimulate the milk. Glance off the mother releasing mawr off this vital substance to the kitten later on, when the cat is involved in the process off needing on your knees, this simply means he's steel, enduring the process that comes from his age. This activity relaxes them, so if you enjoy having the cat on your lap but can't stand the needing, then you need to keep the clause stream, or just hold a thick blanket between the claws and your love. Next, let's have a look at late narrowing. Perhaps you try to guess many times what your cat or someone else's cat is trying to tell you when they make certain sound or when they use a different tone off the marrying. Marrying is an important part of communication with you, according to the article in Purina, Cats communicate with each other through the body language and sent worries as the researchers found, mellowing was developed for communicating to humans exclusively. Sounds like a privilege to earn, doesn't it? While the cat's realized that we do not respond to the body language, facial expressions and sent so they had refined the vocal sounds to communicate with us. So what do different sounds mean? Ah, high pitched short marrow means greeting or simply hello but the drone out sound, which sounds like narrowing and purring at the same time. The kind of Moreau means that you're kidding, demands something from you like opened the door right now. Generally speaking pleasantly sounded marrying means that they ask for something like your attention or feeding Where is unpleasant cells would mean that the demand something from you? Or that they're annoyed while, according to Perrin, the research shop, marrow or mute, it's a standard greeting for hello, multiple males is excited greeting something like, Great to see you. Maybe you've heard your cap doing multiple mouse when they see you. I've certainly observed in my car doing that. They meet pitch marrow means plea for something I'd like to eat, for example, and drawn out Merrill, like we were saying earlier, is actually demand for something like open the door. And now where is low Peach? Moreau means they complain off a room you have done means a complaint off a wrong you have done, for example. Hey, my bowl is still empty. Where is high Peach row is actually anger or pain? Hopefully a pronounced this house on pluralist correctly. I'm basing them on what my cats is Sounds sounds like, and I hope it will be applicable to yours anyway. The hype, each brow, it means on your pain. For example, that's my tail you just stepped on. If you can't is marrying excessively, then that means he knows that concept mellowing. Get your attention and they food. So in cases of excessive mellowing, give them food at those times when they're quiet and ignore most of the marrying. Just stop this undesirable behaviour. To truly understand the water cat is trying to convey, you need to start paying attention to all the vocalizations on understanding the situations they're in. Some organizations will be demands, but others will mean the greetings or even gratefulness for giving them attention. If you were studying cats vocalizations, you would find many various combinations off, narrowing, trailing. He sing pourri low or high pitch sounds and so on. And they all mean different things in different contexts. So, as I say, start learning, communicating with them now and pay attention to your cats and body language as they make the sounds. These all in combination can help you to master the cap human language. This is it for this lecture on will proceed to our next lecture way. We'll talk about aggression and cats. Thank you for watching on that. We'll see there 13. 12: hello and welcome to our next lecture, where we will discuss aggression in cats. Ah, lot of people see aggression and cats nor CVS in dogs. But if you think about cats, have sharp teeth, there have super sharp claws and they can lacerate scheme quite severely, which can get infected very quickly. And aggression. Cats is actually one of the most common problems in what the cat owners have to deal with. The aggression can be directed towards the owners themselves, all the guests and the friends. So if you think that the cat can actually jump on, that can be very vicious as well. Then it becomes a problem. So first of all, you need to know that cats don't like confrontation by nature and the use aggression when they feel trapped in the corner, so to speak. Cats. Body language is more subtle than that of dogs, so it can be hard to understand that the cat is stressed or even about the jump. But someone unless than making sure the noise that just grow cats aggression can be either offensive or defensive, according to the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Offensively Aggressive cat tries to make himself look bigger on Mawr. Intimidating mores, a defensively aggressive cap adults a self protective posture and tries to make himself look smaller. If you see a cow that displaying aggressive behavior, I will talk about it in a second. About those behavioral signs, you need to know that you must not touch the cat, punish the cat or even attempt to reassure them. The behavioral, science and aggression can include upright, straight leg stance or crouching upright or flattened sideways years and there it's there. The hackles would be up and there would be growling, howling. He sing or speeding. The cat might be moving towards the opponent, or he might be formed a few quick strikes instead. And once the cat attack their porn in, then you would see the biting, fighting, scratching or striking behavior. When the cat is preparing for a full attack, then he can roll onto his side or back to demonstrate all his weapons, his teeth and claws. To understand how you can stop the aggression in your cat, you need to try to understand the cause of the problem. The aggressive behavior could have resulted from the pole past traumas or some medical condition. It could be aggravated by certain situations, objects or people. You can also try to analyze what the cat is trying to achieve by his actions, whether they're defending themselves or whether they actively demonstrating, dislike to something or someone or be house. They're trying to protect the territory. Any change in the household that affects the cat's environment can trigger the aggressive or territorial behavior. For example, getting a new kitten in the same household moving to another location, another cat entering the neighborhood. And so one anything can trigger aggressiveness. Why do cats fight with one another? The most common situation is when two males who have not bean speed fight for the accessibility for mating and the territory when aggression happened within the household, it can happen in such subtle level that even the pet owners themselves will notice it. Subtle aggression would include an aggressor. He uses his body language and certain posture towards the victim to show that he's the one in control here, aggression and counts that the P ISS, when you pet them, is one of the most regular complaints. It seems that your cat have been enjoying all the attention you given them, and suddenly all his sharp claws come out and he lashes out that you bite in like a wild animal. The researchers give a few possible reasons for such behaviour. For example, the tolerance off being petted is different in old cats, or possibly the rest of the nerve endings. The trigger they just likeness debating. In any case, if you look carefully, you will spot the signs of aggression well before the cat attacks you, for example, that can give such signs as tail twitching, narrowing, skin twitching. They stop purring. The ears, my twitch and a body position shifts all the site displayed to let you know that your kitty doesn't want to be petted anymore on, in fact, prefer to be left alone. So how would you treat aggressive behavior in your cap? As I said earlier, first off all, you need to try to understand the underlying reason for the behavior. If it is related to certain situations or people, then maybe it's possible to minimize the cats exposure to them. If it is related to a medical condition that should be treated first on, then the cat can be retrained when you're ready to bring some behavioral modifications. Or, in other words, when you're ready to train the cap, then the main thing you need to remember is that you are the boss and not account. The training part would include, for example, rewarding the good behavior and ignoring or even punishing bad behaviour. For example, when you see the signs of aggression in your cat, let the cat walk away from you. We'll put him down from Philip. Don't give him any more off your attention until he changes his attitude. Learn to understand the science of aggression in the cat and avoid provoking his aggressive behavior. Leave the cat alone if he's displaying the size of aggression and speak to the vet. If you feel there might be a serious issue or even a medical problem, that is causing the aggression well, hopeless lecture, helping to understand a bit more about the cat's behavior and especially when they get aggressive for what reasons and what you can do to either prevent it or to minimize it, you know, next lecture. We'll continue talking about the psychology of cats, how they perceive the world in the comparison to us how to stop the undesirable behaviour. I will talk a little bit more about the personality. So thank you for watching. And I will see, you know, next lecture. 14. 13: Hillary and welcome to our next lecture psychology off cats, while the interesting thing to know is that cats see the world differently from us, the judge, our behavior in the now in the presence, they don't remember what we did to them yesterday. What, mostly they don't Well, mostly they don't a sauce it. I will be here with the past week's behavior or with our actions from last month, like weekends or like humans can do on instead. Again, they're judging what we do right now when we're talking to them, when we're looking at them when we carrying for them. So let's talk a little bit about the undesirable behaviour and how we can stop them knowing that they listen to us in the now in the present. So, for example, if you see the cat trying to climb up on your favorite curtains and you're trying to punish the cat for doing so, the cat will associate the punishment not with a swinging on the curtains, but with you with your appearance in the room. Instead of shouting at what's being done, you can only try to stop the cat what they're doing at the moment of doing it. For example, when you see you can't just started climbing, you can clap your hands and say firmly, stop. This will distract the cat from what they're doing but not necessary prevent them from doing so again in the future. In such situation, you can also get a water bottle that can squirt the water at your cat. The cat might learn to eventually associates some of the off the undesirable behaviors with an unpleasant action of getting wet. But as with any training on Lee, your patients can help you in the long run off correcting your cat's behavior. Another thing you need to remember when you consider psychology of cats is that cats are very sensitive to stress. Even a small change in your cat's daily routine can cause them stress. Anything like introducing a new pet or a person to the cat or even the rearrangement of the furniture in the house can call some behavioral reactions in your cat, whether they will demonstrate their aggressiveness or, on the contrary, there will be hiding somewhere else and refusing the meals. The next thing to know is this their simple formula off? How cats for they full on personality. Cats in the younger age learn from the experiences, so if they're having a good, pleasant experience than they will try to repeat it again and again in the future. If the experiences unpleasant, they will try to avoid it. So when you trained your kitten, remember that rewards work really well. But shouting usually doesn't and in fact can frighten them. If you force the really positive, playful relationship with your kitten from the start, giving her time attention, new toys to keep her busy, then you can't will behave well in the future. CASS, who behaved badly as we cede, often do this because of the boredom and lack of stimulation or attention from you. And not interesting fact is that cat sleep a lot, which you probably have noticed by now. They sleep anywhere between 13 and 18 hours a day, which depends on the age and even the personality. Kittens sleep even longer. In fact, most of the time, cats are nocturnal creatures, so they sleep during the day and they're active during the night. Obviously, these can cause a problem for many people. You can't wants to play when you want to sleep. What can you do in this case? The only thing you can do here is to engage with you cat or kitten with playful activities and lots of attention during the day and especially before your bedtime. Then you will have a good chance that they will sleep for most of the night. The next interesting fact is that cats sense of smell is 14 times stronger than off a human . This means that they can smell things that that were not even aware off. So if you see some unusual behaving, you can't. This might simply mean they can smell. They prey, such as mouths in the distance or even someone else's dealer in your neighborhood. So do cats like us as much as we like them? Well, some cats don't give a monkeys about certain people, according to research published in the Health Guidance, If you notice that you can't is ignoring someone completely, that means the cat decided that he doesn't like the person on. We'll ignore him from now on. Interestingly, the research shows that cats do recognize when they name had being called on, even they can recognize the voices of the owners but they can choose to ignore us completely unless they hear a sound off a teen opener. Finally, another interesting thing you might want to know that researchers filed the cats don't really like being stroked. Then let us do that as a part of the game. They want to be fed, and they let us touch them. But researchers have found that cats who are stroke the most have very high levels of stress hormones in embodies. Also, partly, cats don't really like human smell, either. On this is why they will groom themselves for ages after we play with them. While I still hope that the research about them not alike and being stroked is not quite correct. I'm sure you have seen the cats enjoy and being stroked, and I'm certain in this too. So perhaps most cats and in most cases don't like it. But our cats and I mean yours and mine. They do enjoy our full attention. I'm certainly well, I hope you found this lecture informative. Interesting, especially this facts as much as I do. Really. Thank you for watching, and I will see in our next lecture which will be you. Exercise the lesson Number three, we some homework. See, there 15. 14: hello and welcome to our next exercise lesson. That's that's number three Xs Lesson number three, which means you've completed three sections by now, which is congratulations that it's really good work. I'm proud of you if you came to this election. And they communicate through many various body language sing signals and some vocal sounds . Can you imagine how accused the hearing ace rabbits can hear us into a mile away? And if they feel that the source of dangers around, they would stomp their feet toe warm to warrant the household about potential threat or danger, a similar thing can be sate about the sense of smell. When you start training your rabbit and teach them some comments, the general rule is to have 23 sessions, or 5 to 10 minutes a time to keep him interested in learning. You need to have some plan of what exactly you want to teach your pet and divided into small steps. Accomplish in each step will help you on the rabbit to eventually master the trick off to learn the command and, of course, give you a rabbit a treat immediately after each of these goals or even small steps I learned successfully. We know a last final lecture where I just wanted to say thank you and good byes for taking this course. I hope you've enjoyed the scores. We've covered quite a lot of information about cats and dogs and rabbits and generally about pets and the evolution from the evolution to the final days on Earth. I think pets, they calm for a reason into our lives Because, um, when our hat my last three pets, which were a dog, a cat and the rabbit on at some point I had all three of them at the same time, they were all rescued on. It was quite interesting that they came to me in such different ways. The rabbit waas given away by a woman whose Children lost interest in a rabbit and the rabbit felt pretty much depressed and left on its own. Nobody wanted to tear off this rabbit anymore, so I've adopted it from her. The cat, the cat came from the vet where somebody found a little kitten which lost his mother on. It had to be de fleet and everything else. On day. We're looking for an owner, so I've adopted that cap which stayed with me for the rest of her life and the dog. That was probably the most interesting thing because it belonged to our neighbor who believed underneath us. And at some point this neighbor collapsed in the bathroom and died the puppy because she had a puppy waas in another room in the living room. Fortunately enough, the door to the bathroom waas shut so the puppy couldn't get to the body. It is for a reason, because when the poppy was there on his own for I think up to 10 days, he waas to the point of death from hunger from starvation. He didn't have any access to water or food on what's pretty much dying. I'm saying he it's actually she when the smell from the body, after 10 days in the but in warm bathroom, came through our flat. We have to call police on. This is when they found the dying puppy and the pretty much rotten body. I'm so sorry to say that, but you can't say anything else. The smell was overpowering and it was staying there for a month, but that that's another. That's another case. The poor and the poor little party, even though it was dying, it had a chance to survive on. We took her to our home on. We gave her all the kids attention and love as much as she needed on. She's still really good. Well, she's a dog now, but and she steal a puppy in my ice and she always will be. So sometimes we don't even know in which ways we can get our next pet, and it's great is Leeds. It's great that when you feel that you've done some big, not only for humanity, for the planet and for animals, it's it's really good feeling. And if you are interested in animals and understanding their behaviour and communication with them, then I think we are on the same way with you. Anyway. I hope you enjoyed the course. Please look out for my other courses, some doing all sort of courses, and they're all related to psychology. Whether it's a human or animal psychology, I'm often promoting them for that.
