Its all about Lakes and Reflections, This is the one of first subjects I have started to paint in my art journey and one of first subjects I have mastered completely...so, I have always wanted to share an absolute beginner friendly class with beginner friendly techniques to get you started on lakes and reflections subject..

 We talk about brushes first, where I have shared how each different brush with different size and shape will help you in painting different type of reflections

And then I will share various tips before starting each class project to give you guys an idea on whats ahead and what you need to know before attempting the main project..

1. Introduction: Hello, guys. I'm back with the new class. This is all about legs and reflections. This is one of the first subjects I have started to paint since the beginning off my our journey. Andi, I wasn't as good when I started, but made a great progress over the years. Here is my journey from beginning to now in painting, lates and reflections to reach the stays where I am now. It took me three years and of course there are born to be many mistakes made on the way. So I thought I'd make a class on exactly how to paint legs and reflections and what has helped me. Andi. I'm sharing a lot of techniques in this class which will help you to start your journey in . Let's and reflections as well make it easier. Have divided the landscapes into five types. Details are Miral semi detail on blues landscapes. I will explain every single detail in the tip section before each landscape. It is also a separate video on how to use brushes in art supplies video. I hope everything I have shared in this video will help you guys in your journey off Lex and reflections. So we thought for the rodeo. Let's get started 2. Art supplies : some using Fabbri on a 100% cotton papers. These papers are in the form off rolls on. I'll cut them up in the size that I wish. So I usually cut them up in a four size, which is the size of the landscapes that we're gonna pain today. Well, as you can see. So that's it for the papers. This is 100% cotton 300 GSM paper. You can use any brand off the papers that you have. Make sure it's 100% cordon on three. Energy is, um So I used similiar artists, great brains for today's landscapes on whitewash for splattering on for painting the ripples, you can use any brand off the pains that you have. Andi. You can also use Whitewater Calo instead off white cash as well. So when it comes to brush is, these are all vibrations that you use for almost all my landscapes. This is number for my brush. I use it for reading the paper on painting. Most off the subjects. I would suggest you guys toe invest in one of these more brushes. It's number four. It's perfect for everything. Sometimes I paint an entire landscape with this one single brush. The next one is number two round brush. It's exactly similar to the number four round brush, but the size is different. It's quite smaller, so I used this brush to paint the smaller subjects, so the next one is flat brush. I don't normally use this brush much since we are painting reflections. So I thought it might be easier to paint reflections with this brush on. Let me show you how it's easier to paint the loose reflections, which I have used in two off these landscapes. A nice So next comes my favorite brush, that is number one synthetic brush. I love it because it has such a good tip. Mainly, I use this to paint the pines, and then for this particular landscape, I use it to paint the ripples. Ripples should be thin, so I would suggest revise to take a synthetic brush with the sharp tip synthetic because you can control the brush. So the last one that is number one brush. I used this main difference, splattering the stars with wide crash. I'm using indigo this plata so you guys can see that is it for the brushes 3. Galaxy lake tips: these are the file landscapes that we're gonna paint today. All of this has the same theme that is subject on its reflection, and I have categorised these vile landscapes in three types based on the reflections. So the 1st 1 is the detail reflections. As you can see in these two landscapes, that means the reflection looks exactly similar to the subject. About the second is semi detailed. The subjects are not clear, so if you observe it with regards to the previous one, where the subjects are quite clear, that is, you can see the pine tree. But here you can't see it. So is the reflection. It's not clear. So have Ah categorized it. A semi detail the last twenty's lose reflections, where the reflections are not quite clear on are very loose and not at all detailed. I will explain how I have presented with all off this reflections on the types in the next coming videos. Now we'll discuss the details are mirror reflections off galaxy late landscape. So here the subject on reflection should be like mirrors. So I have mentioned the name middle reflection. The reflection should be exactly similar to the subject about show you guys how I have painted those first time taking number one synthetic brush and I'm gonna paint fines. Since this is an example, I'm gonna paint just two pines. I know that I have painted the pines. I'm gonna show you guys how I painted the reflections. It's always easier to just flip your paper, flip your board so you can have an idea on how to paint the reflections just as you're painting the subjects. Like I said, the reflection should be exactly similar to the subject. So I'm gonna take the length as well into account on. I'm gonna paint the reflection with the same brush. Like I said, paint exactly like the subject about. So I'm going to just remove the heart. I just But it's completely up to you. If you don't want to do it, you don't have toe Now. The final step is to add ripples. I'm using number one synthetic brush. So this is how I have painted the main landscape that is galaxy like landscape. So now let's paint the main landscape 4. Class Project - 1 - Galaxy lake: it has start by drawing a line in the middle of the paper, and we are using only two colors that a stock wise green and indigo. Uh, I will watch these colors out for you guys. This is tacos green on This one is indigo. So basically middle part will be talk eyes on the top and bottom part of the paper will be indigo. But first we'll start by reading the paper with clean water, and I'm using my number four more brush. - Unlike I said, we'll start with the dark eyes that is the middle part of the paper. Now I'll take the indigo, uncover it on the top of the paper. Now repeat the same process in the reflection area that is to the bottom of the paper. First you stark wise and then indigo. Now, using a clean brush blender entire paper, make sure not to use any extra pain. Just blend the colors that are already present on the paper. Now that the colors on the paper is blended, I will take some pain and create a few ripples for this. I'm using indigo not going over. Do this, so I'll stop right here. and I'll keep this for drying. I'm painting the trees in two layers, one in light shit. The next in dark, shared. I'm taking light into go to paint the first layer. This is looking a bit tika, so I will dilute the pain and come back with the lighter shade. You need a lot of patients to paint mirror reflections because obviously you got about twice here on this type of landscape with mirror reflections that does not necessarily need 100% cotton paper. Since we're not doing much blending here, this work is quite detailed, so you can carry on with 20 papers and cotton paper or 100% cellulose paper. So I'm done with the first layer off trees. So what I'm gonna do is I'll take my Ma brush number four. I'll slightly blender just off the trees. The brush is wet. You can skip this step if you're not comfortable. I don't like heart it just on my paper, so I'll just blend them. Like I said, if you're not comfortable, you don't have to do this now. Keep this for drying. So while painting middle reflections, it's always advised to flip your bold and mirror the painted subjects. As you can see, I have flipped my board and started painting the reflections of the subject. Andi, I have taken a wrong shade here, so I'll just correct it by removing the pain with the tissue paper. And now I will just a shade. Like I said before, it's tries the work. So keep painting the trees just like we have painted before the exact mirror reflections. I know it's kind of boring to paint the same subject twice, so you can fast forward this video if you wish. - I think I'm done painting the reflections that is, this is first layer off the trees, so I will flip my board back. So now I'll take my more brush and I will remove the heart it just in the middle, like I have done before. Andi, you can totally skip this step as well. I just don't feel comfortable with hard it just on my paper. Let's keep this for drying before we start the second layer off the trees. For the second layer, take dark indigo for previous layer. We took light in negotiate only after the first layer off traces completely tried more into the next layer. I'm painting a few trees with dark indigo. I'm not going to overdo this, so I'll keep it simple. These are enough. So I'll just flip my board and paint the reflection. Now take the same shared off indigo and start painting the reflections. - Oh , I think I'm done with the reflections. I'm gonna just flip my board back now I'm gonna take my ma brush and remove the heart It just in the middle. Like I said, you can always keep district. We're 90% done with this landscape. Let's keep this for drying. Since this is a galaxy leg, I'm gonna splatter some stars with white. Gosh, you don't have to take a right. Gosh, If you have a normal watercolor white water cooler, you can use it as well. Now, to cover the subject from splattering the stars, I will take a tissue paper, uncover it both reflection and the subject about now you can splatter the stars in peace. Make sure you splatter on both sides of the paper top and below I think we had done I hope you like this demonstration. Thank you for watching. We'll monitor the next one 5. Sunset lake tips : So let's paint another type of detail landscapes. It is different from the previous one. Because I have added a background color, that is, you can see the indigo background color here are over that I have added the subject on reflections. So I'm gonna show you how I have painter doctor gonna take a number to brush round brush, and I'm gonna paint a simple background. Now I'm gonna paint the reflection off this background a dry line in the middle to separate the subject on reflection. So, in this case, I'm going to just lift the color off so you can see the white color in the middle taking a different color, these air looking like lips. Once the background is completely dried, I'm gonna paint the trees over it. Just like I have done here. - Have done painting the subject I'm gonna keep this were drying. Now, once it's completely dried, I'm gonna flip the paper like I have done before, and I'm gonna just paint the reflections. Forget to add the reports on your done. This is the same technique I have used to paint the sunset plague. Now let's paint the main landscape 6. Class Project - 2 - Sunset lake : so I'm taking the colors. A loan indigo, but I will use orange under top off the yellow. So we are using kind of a mixture of put our engine a law and then indigo only three kilos , and I will first batch of a low. This is a lemon yellow on this is orange on the final color indigo. I will start by drawing a straight line in the middle of the paper, and as usual, I will start by reading the paper with clean water, and I'm using my number for more brush. - Like I said before, I will first add a low on after that on the top of Tylo, I will add orange. Now is the time for the orange. You might be wondering why I didn't makes these two colors together in the palate and added them directly. But no, the idea was to add one after the other. This way, when the paper drives, you can clearly see alone orange together as well as separately. You can see both the colors now they didn't get mixed up. This is a personal choice. If you're not comfortable, you can use only orange, are only alone Now I'll take number two. Brush on a little bit off Indigo on I will are clouds on top of the paper. I want to remind you guys, this is 100% cotton paper. So it is staying read for a long time for me to add these clouds with the same brush on with the same color that is indigo. I'm gonna add loose background on its reflection. At the same time, - I just remove excess pained in the middle where we have drawn the line before this line because you can separate the subject about to the reflection below. - Now I'm taking number one synthetic brush, and I'll just are a few ripples with light in the local law. Don't overdo it. Just a few lines now. Keep the paper for drying. Now we're going to draw a few islands with trees. It's important you have a shop pointed tip on your brush, so I'm taking number one synthetic brush and I'm adding trees here. Pine trees. A closer look Here you can see clearly how I'm painting the trees. - After painting a few trees, I'm drawing a line under all of these trees here, and I'm going to repeat the same process for about 6 to 7 times That is drawing the pine trees on drawing a small line under them. I guess I'm going to stop right here on Let's start with the reflections. So to paint the reflections easily I'm gonna flip my bold and I'll take light shirt off Indigo like this one. So you to get the light shirt off Indigo Unit to add more water on Let's big men. I'm using the same brush. That is number one synthetic brush and I'm gonna paint the trees. Exactly. I have painted before. Make sure the lens of the trees in reflection matches the length of the trees about. So I'm gonna follow the same process for all these islands. I'll just gonna paint reflections. If you think this video will be boring, you can fast forward it are. You can skip it. Remember, the subject will be in tic ular that is dark indigo on the reflection will be in light color. That is light indigo. I think we're done painting the reflections as well. Now I'm gonna take white gosh and I'll paint a few ripples with the same brush in the reflections area. Please ignore my hand. Here. Idea ripples only after the reflection is completely dried. - I guess I'm going to stop now. I think I have already. Well, done it. On the final step I'm gonna splatter a few stars 100 reflections under the lake and we are done. Thank you for watching. I hope you like this video. 7. Purple lake Tips : Next comes the semi detailed reflections. I have called it semi detailed because the previous landscapes we have seen a detailed reflections on detail subjects. But in the case off populate landscape, you can see the subjects as well as the reflections are not quite clear. I have just painted the mountain with trees on the top, as you can see, but not detailed. So now I'm gonna show you guys how I have painted it right. I'm going to show the pigmented devotion Famed amount in covered in trees. So that's it. That is the subject. Now I'll show you guys how I have painted the reflections. So in the previous landscapes there is a white line that separates the subject on reflections. So in this case, there's gonna be white line. But I'll paint it quite differently. I'm just gonna leave. A small gap between subject and reflection on this small gap between subject and reflection helps to differentiate both of them. You can proceed painting the reflection, make sure the subject on reflection looks the same. - On this is the technical have used to paint the same mediate a landscape that is populate landscape. So let's more onto the landscape part in the next video 8. Class Project - 3 - Purple lake : let us start by drawing a strike line in the middle of the paper to the colors. We have only two off them. Poeple, unbind Zgray. I'll scratch these colors for you and will mourn to the next step of the video. - I will start by waiting the paper with clean water and I'm using my number for more brush. Like always. Make sure the water is evenly distributed throughout the paper. So I'm taking purple color. Now on. I'll start applying it on the paper. Now I let you guys know a small trick. I'm only painting the purple color in the three parts of the paper. That is Stop middle on the bottom. I don't have a specific reason to do this. It's just because leaving lighter areas on paper looks really great and creates far of illusions. You can see this when the paper is completely dried up. Take a clean brush. Remember, damp Restrict. Nick, we're using the same one here, so I will just blend these three spaces on the paper together without using any more off the pain. This is actually done here, but I'll take a little bit off paint and I will add a few ripples. All right, now we're done sitting of the background. Now I'll keep this were complete trying. The paper is completely dried so we can one to the next step when I'm using a mine And before more brush Onda a number three flat brush hell, flat fresh makes it easy to paint the reflections. And now I'm using Byeon scree to paint these, uh, subjects on the land. So there are two ah, shades off pines. Great that I'm gonna be using. When is lighter on one is starker So more paint on less water Give stock Akala unless paint on more water gives lighter shade of the pain So we'll start with the lighter shade of pines gray. So I'm taking my number for more brush and with lighter shade of pines. Great. I'm gonna add the land. - This mountain is irregular in shape because I'm trying to show the rack trees on top of the mountain. - I guess I'll stop right here and I'll start with the reflections on for the reflections. I'm gonna be using a flight brush and I'm still using the lighter shade of pines. Great. Hell, I said flag fresh because it's easier to just drag the pain down. So if you don't have a flat press, you can always use the round brush. But it's just gonna take a lot of time. Like we have discussed in techniques video. The reflection should be painted exactly like the subject about. So now I'm painting irregular trees as well, Just as you can see about now , I'm taking number one synthetic pressure and I'll just go over the trees, making them look shop. Same thing I'm gonna do here in the reflections as well. - For this particular part, you need to use a synthetic pressure so that you can, uh, have more control or the subject. Your painting. Now I'm going to remove a little bit of pain in the middle of reflection on the subject about so it can create an illusion off a separation between two parts. I'm going to keep this for drying. It's completely dried now, so I am taking a darker shade of pines Great this time and I'm gonna paint in this area so darker shade means more pigment on less water. As always, I'm using my number for my brush to paint the subject and I'm gonna be using the same brush to paint the reflections as well. To show you guys, you can achieve the same result with both types off brushes. So this mountain is closer to the river. So this one is painted in the doctors shared. But I'm using the same techniques I have used previously that is spending irregular mountains with the trees. - The flag precious are very rare to come by. So I thought I'd use the same around brush to paint the reflections as well. - Like I said before the reflections and the subject should look exactly the same. Now I'm taking the number one synthetic brush unpaid. The sharp trees, just like I've done before, - repeat the same in the reflections as well. - This type of reflections are called mirror reflections like we have discussed in techniques video to try out this type of landscape. You don't need tohave 100% cotton paper you can try on when triples and cotton are completely cellulose paper as well. It's because we don't need a lot of planning. We just blended the background purple color in this entitled Dorial. It's just about painting a middle reflections. If this looks easy. You can directly paint on your main landscape, but I would say just two guys to give it a good practice before you start on. That is it. Let's move on to the next video. 9. Monochrome lake Tips : So the next comes lose reflections so the previous ones were detailed or mirror where the subject is quite similar or mirror image off. The reflection on the 2nd 1 is semi detail comes the reflection, which is not at all detail on blues. So there are two types again here. The subject is detailed on reflections or lose wild in the last landscape that is no lake landscape. The subjects are loose as well. As the reflections are lose, we'll discuss it. When we're talking about that landscape. Now I will show you guys how I have painted this one. So here the subject is detail on, The reflection is lose. - I'm gonna take into go and I'll just draw a line. Now I'll just lift the paper and drag the pain down. You can use flag brush, but now I'm using a round brush. I'll keep this one for drying now taking to go on, just paint over the mountain on top of the reflection. Now I'm gonna take white gosh and paint a few ripples. This is how I have painted monochrome late landscape. So let's mourn to paint the main landscape now 10. Class Project - 4 - Monochrome Lake : So for the colors, I am using cerulean blue undock wise green so you can take Ah ultramarine blue here as well . What I'm gonna do is I will makes thes two colors together. Andi, we'll get a bluish green color. So this is it. It's not completely blue or it's not completely green. It's somewhere in between. So after drawing a line in the middle of the page, I am wetting the paper with clean water and I'm using number for more brush here before we start to paint. I'm taking them asking tail on keeping it under the part off my paper. It helps in the floor off. Pain on gravity really helps here. So I'm taking our bluish green make sure and I will stop painting from the top off the paper dragged upping down. Make sure you're not adding fresh paint in the middle on. Really are at the bottom off the paper. Take the first plane and applied. Now, in this way, we're gonna have the paint only at the top and bottom off the page, leaving slightly light cholera in the middle, which actually gives a very good illusion after distant lake. I'm gonna take a little bit off blue paint, and I will paint a few ripples here and there, like we have discussed in tips video. Now remove the masking tape you have kept under the bod. Now, while the paper is still that I'm taking number for more brush and I will take a little bit off green and blue mixture. A little odd. Some background doesn't have to be specific. Just paint a few strokes with your brush. Even though you're not painting any specific structures here, the magic off 100% cotton paper can be seen here. It creates a beautiful illusion off a bad ground it when the paper is completely dried and I will paint a few ripples with the same brush all the while, Make sure your paper is wet to damp are not completely dried. I'm taking a number four brush, and as you guys can see, the paper is still right. Saville, take indigo mixture and I will add a few reflections like we have discussed in Tips video - with number four More Brush. I'm dragging the pain down to create reflections. This looks easy, but it's not. Starts industry guys to practice before you start on your main landscape. Andi, I'll keep this for drying. Now I'm taking number to brush, and I'll take in the go now to draw the mountains over the reflections we have painted before and make sure your paper is completely dried before your attempt. This just draw a few lines, or the mountain, which shows that it's a forest with trees. I have painted the 2nd 1 in the same way on all show how to paint these mountains one more time, the last one an elder a few lines in front off the mountain to give an illusion, Often island. Now I'm taking number one synthetic brush and I'll take pines gray and I'll draw a few straight lines. This shows that there are a few small islands present in front of the mountain. Now the final step I'm taking white gosh, you can take normal whitewater claw or acrylic on. I'm taking number one synthetic brush. Anel draw a few straight lines like we have painted before with pines. Great painting with white color gives an illusion off. Reflections here on the final step splatters on white paint on the paper. I hope you like District Aurea off Monochrome Lake. Let's more onto the next video 11. Snow lake Tips : so, like previous class, this one is also lose reflections. The only differences in previous landscape the subject waas clear on details. But the reflection is lose in this case, even the subject as well as the reflection both are lose. So I'm going to show you guys how I have painted these. So I have a small sketch here to show the snow. Cover the line. You have to keep it white. That means you don't have to paint anything over there. You just have to paint a bow on below it is, Yeah, I'm gonna flip the paper and I'll start painting the subject that is loose trees. Now flip the paper and repeat the same process. - I'll keep this one for drying the final step. Add rippers with number one synthetic brush and you're done. Now let's more to painting the main landscape. 12. Class Project- 5 - Snow Lake : like a start by sketching. I'm drawing a straight line in the middle of the paper and I'm just dragging those lines down below. My idea here is to draw a line covered entirely in snow. On this, no lined comes in the middle off the paper on the sky on its reflection on either edge off the paper. So basically double part is the sky and below is the leg with reflections. You can pause the video right here and complete the sketch at your own pace. If you have completed, the sketch will more into the pains that we're going to use for this landscape. So I have three colors here. Royal blue orange on binds gray. If you don't have royal blue, you can always use cerulean blue, royal blue on orange Offer the background on before the details. I'm gonna use pines great. And I'm mixing in the gun purple today to get that rich and pigmented publish Blue Claw and I'm gonna start Charlie's colors now. Excuse you guys. An idea on what are the alternatives colors that you could use If you don't have these particular colors, I will start with orange next to his royal blue As you can see you can use a cerulean blue are ultramarine blue As an alternative for this color I am searching Finds green Now alternatively, you can use black alot last I'm mixing indigo on purple calla So these are the colors we're gonna need today So orange on blue for the sky On reflection there is some reflection that's gonna be there Onda indeed unpopular. Make sure pants gray for the trees on detailing So let's move on to the next step. So I'm starting the process by waiting the paper with clean water and I'm using my number for more brush here. Make sure you don't with the land area, you're gonna have to wait only the sky in the background area on below the reflection area but not the line where we have sketched like we have discussed before. I'm using orange and blue to paint the sky on later I'm gonna use by It's great to paint the clouds as well After lightly brushing over with the blue blended with the orange I'm gonna take a little bit off orange on my palette Now I'm gonna blend orange and blue together Make sure you don't cross the area that we have sketched here. That is land. And this is background down. We're painting now. I'm gonna take a little bit off, finds great, and I will paint the clouds. So if your paper is 100% cotton, this pressure should be very easy. That is the blending off. Orange, blue and science. Great. Now let's repeat the same process in the reflection area. So I'll paint the exact same thing in the reflection area with the same colors that is blue orange on pines gray. So he is the little drink to make the process easier. I'm gonna flip my board. So I have kept a small box under the board as well. I'm taking into Go on pines Gramick show and I'll start painting the trees. Remember, the paper is still right here with my number for my brush. I'm just dragging the pain down disk. Use an illusion off a thick bunch of trees. - This is the technique we have discussed in my first sculpture class. Monochrome, moody landscapes.
