1. Introduction: Hello and welcome to the exciting world of adobe light from classic CC. Light Room is a powerful image editing and image management program that is all in one solution for photographic needs. From a thin light room, you can manage your photos and at your photos working photos in photo shopper. Other supported applications on share your photos with So Like um, strength lies in its ability to imagine high blame of photos, making it an ideal application for the professional or the hobbyist photographers. Moreover, any changes that you made 20 image within leg room a save to Kavlak file enough to the image directly. This is what is referred to as nondestructive editing. So in this class will be working on Lee with the library module, the module where you import on manager photos. You'll learn all about length from catalogues. How to get your images into a light trim to create and manage collections and how to export your images. The hot quality files that you share with others. Airplane. You also were not ready to rank filter and sort your images so that you could find the ones you need Quickly. Additional courses will discuss ending your images from within light. I'm also included some exercise fellas that you can download if you wish toe follow up with me yourself performing the exact same steps that I do in the videos. This is an excellent way to delve into the application by rolling up her sleeves, it actually working with the program as you learn it. If you do wish to follow along, the exercise files should be stored on your desktop with the lesson files. Fuller being the top four and also provide a text document up for my instructions on using the exercise finals in the ZIP file that your downloads or you may wish to start their first. So that's for me. My name is Roger Hitter and I will be your instructor for this course, and I've been using life through since way back when it first came out. I have been a software trainer, and, of course, we're designer for the past 20 years. I'm so excited that he decided to take the alarm on your life's journey on at any time. Along the way, feel free to ask any questions that come up about life through, so let's get started 2. Before You Begin: So if you'd like to work a lot with me as I progress through the course, you'll need to download the lesson files. So we're in the projects and resources tab of this class. I've included a link to the file as well as instructions and how to set it up. The file is compressed in zip format. And with most modern computers, all you need to do is I double-click the zip file to expand its contents. A top folder is named a lesson files, and you'll want to copy this two computers desktop as well as all the sub-folders underneath, also include the URL to the lesson files in this video up on top here. So you could copy it down and then inserted into your browser's address bar if you so choose. So if you have any questions at all about the lesson files, please don't hesitate to let me know. And now let's dive into the class. 3. Creating a Lightroom Catalog: light room stores. All of the information about your images, such as metadata, ratings, rankings, tags, flags, collections as well as any evidence that you make to your photos in the catalog file. When you important images into light room, you're not actually bringing the images themselves into light room, but rather like him as information about the file on its location and edits in the catalog file. The first time you open light room, you'll be prompted to create a new catalog file. Now, by default, the file is stored in the Pictures folder in a sub folder called Light Room. You can, however, move the Cadillac file wherever you like, as well as changed the name of it. Now, if you wish to open, an existing light room can log. Ah. Then he would choose file open catalog from the menu and then navigate the location off the other catalogue that you'd like to open. Some people use several life from catalogues, in fact, perhaps one for personal and another one for business. While Labour Room does support the multiple catalogs, it is recommended to use Onley. One can log whenever possible as it's easy to group categories of images in the application itself. Some people claim that having multiple catalogues can lead to confusion and trouble down the road. Before we get started, I want to make sure that if you're working along with the desktop files the files that the exercise files that came with the class that you've copied the lesson files folder to the desktop. This is the phone that contains the images that we will be eventually importing into light room. Okay, so that's open delight room. Ah, CC application. I'm gonna click in my lifetime CC classic icon here. So if this is the first time that you are opening light room you receive a dialog box like this one here pumping us to create a new light room catalogue, this box will also display if you've moved in existing light from catalogue to a different location to get started, we'll click, create default catalogue butted, and now lives in has created for us a new blank catalogue. So if you go to a finder here looking a pictures folder, you see, we have a new fuller named light room. These are all of the catalog files that late room created for us. You don't want to use light room a default can like. We want to create your own catalogue in a different location. So I file new Cadillac from the Manu. Then you would type in the name of your catalog in the save as box and the navigate to the location where you want to store your life from Kellogg. But this case, we're going to stick with the default catalogue that delight room created for us. 4. Determining Folder Organization: Okay, so you have your catalog file created, but before you begin importing your photos Intel light room, it's the recommended that you decide ahead of time where and how you go to store your folders. You might end up with the tens of thousands of images, so you want to create organization that's easy for you to work. Were that easy for you to find are your files and folders so to begin with is best to keep your folders under one main folder. For instance, If we decide to store your pictures on your computer, this might be your pictures folder or your my Pictures folder. If you're working on the laptop or if your computer has limited hard drive space, it's best to create a folder called Pictures or whatever You want to name it on an external drive with plenty of storage room. So then the next step involves deciding upon your folder structure. So under the Pictures folder, you will create sub folders and then name them, depending on how you wish to store your images. So some people like to store them by dated by shoot. For instance, if you shot a wedding, let's say, on the 23rd of June of 2017 you might name the folder something like 2017-0 6 Dash 23 Dash Smith Wedding. Or You might have a separate folder for each year, such as 2017. And then under that year folder, you would have separate sub folders for each shoot. So in your 2017 folder, you might have a sub folder entitled Smith Wedding. Other photographers organized your folders only by the shot off, such as Ah Smith Wedding Haley Birthday Party Port If I aren't the trip, etcetera. But what's important is that you create a fuller organization that makes sense for you. So this video, we're going to create a main folder in our Pictures folder called a Light Room Photos, and it is under this folder that we're going to create our folder structure. Now what you decide upon your main faller, it's easiest to move any folders contain the images that you want to important toe light room into this main images folder. So let's do this right now. So first off, we need to open a new finder window or, if you're working with Windows, that would be file Explorer to file Explorer window. So the left pane. I'm gonna click my pictures folder here. This might be entitled my pictures depending on ah, the operating system you're using. If you're using Windows, you may have to clicked on now this PC in the left pane of in click pictures. So now I want to create a new sub folder within this pictures folder. See, we already have our light from Catalogue Fuller here. Now, when you create a folder in which I'll store my images so I will choose file new folder from the menu. If you're using Windows, you could click the new folder icon on the home tab of your ribbon. So now I think I'll name this folder Life Room photos and that I will press returner entered to confirm the entry. So this is the folder that we will use as our main light room folder for any other sub folder organization that we create will be created under this main folder. So now that switch back to the light from application here. So the photo that we just created again will service are main light room fuller, and this is where I will be story, any images that are a part of my light from catalogue, that is to say, any images that I've already imported into light room. 5. Setting Import Preferences: Okay, So one final step in preparing to import photos into Lied room is to set some import preferences which are located on the file handling tab of the light room preferences dialog box. So I'm gonna choose light room preferences from the menu. And if you're using windows, you would choose edit preferences from the menu to display the preferences dialog boxes we have here. So I'm gonna click the file handling tab here on top of the window, This to space file handling preferences. Now, if you're exporting files in D and G format, which will be discussed, I'm or detail in a later lesson you want to click the file extension drop down list and choose whether you want the extension to be an upper case or lower case. So I am going to choose the lower case DMG. So now if I convert any files to D and G format, they will be saved with a lower case extension. Now, what you choose here depends on your own preference or your own workflow. For instance, if you save your file names in all caps that he may wish to choose the uppercase option here. So your file names look consistent. Okay, So from the compatibility box here, which is the second option in the Import DMG creation area, you're typically wanted. Choose the latest version of camera raw, so I will choose the most recent one here. So below that is the J Peg preview drop down list. We'll be talking a little bit more about previous sizes and render times a little layer. But most people prefer to set the J pic previews size as a medium. That seems to be the most optimal setting in light room for most folks. You might, however, also want to ensure that the embed fast load data check boxes checked as this allows you to work with files quickly when you're in the developed mode. Now, under the file name Generation area here on the bottom of the window, we could specify how light room is to deal with special characters in file names. Typically, it is good practice not to allow special characters when naming files, especially if you'll be sharing them with others online or via email. Special characters in file names can affect the stability of the file, and there are many systems I don't even allow such characters. So, therefore, is recommended to set the option to not allow non standard characters from the light. When Preferences box here from this area, we could have light room automatically replace illegal characters and spaces in a file name with a dash or an underscore. So out of the file name generation area, Mina clicks his first drop down list, and I want to choose the second option here, which designates that all of these characters are to be treated as illegal characters. Next, I'm going to click the replace illegal file name characters with drop down list. And here we have a couple of options underscore dashes or similar characters. So that means that if a follow him does have any of these illegal characters like Truman automatically replace it with what we choose here. So I'm going to choose dashes. And what this does is really replace any of these illegal characters in the file name with a dash. Lastly, it ah, click the when a file name has a space dropped a list here, making either leave it as is, replace it with an underscore or replace it with a dash. So to be consistent. I think I will choose. Replace with Dash. Okay, Saddam, let's click the performance tab on top of the ribbon, and that's right up here on this will display performance preferences. So the sexual we're gonna look at here is a camera raw cash setting. Increasing the camera or cash settings can really improve your performance when you're working in ah, the develop module, especially if you tend to work in a set of images more than once. Initially, you might want to set the Akash to two or three gigabytes to start, depending on how much free, hard drive space you have available, many lighter amuses fighting us. Sending the cash to about 20 gigabytes could dramatically increase performance. So let's change the cash here, so I'll double click in the maximum size box on that. Select any existing values in the box, and I'm gonna type in seven so the maximum camera raw size will be seven gigabytes. Top return or enter to confirm the entry. Now, if you prefer, you can also change the location of your cash by clicking the choose button. Here. We're gonna leave that, as is if you do decide the change that you want to ensure that the location of the cash fall is on the fastest Dr. Possible. So I think we're down in preferences, so I will click the closed butted on the dialogue to close it. 6. Importing Your Photos Into Lightroom: so most of the time you'll be importing photos into light room from either a memory card or from another folder on your computer. A suspension. Earlier, it's recommended to move any folders containing images that you want to import into life room into your main Images folder. So if we remember, that would be that light room photos folder that that we created under the Pictures folder . So to begin importing, you choose file in part of photos and videos from the menu. As you can see here, we also have a keystroke combination of shift command I if using a Mac or in B control shift I If using windows, you can also click the import button in the lower left corner on the screen. If you don't see the import button, that means that you are in odd module other than the library module. Through this click in the library module to jump back there on, then the import done should show up here on the left side of your screen. Now, if you're going to be importing from a memory card on SD card light rooms, import dialog box automatically displays when you inserts the card and will list all the images on that card. So it's time for us to start adding images to our light room catalogue. So first off, we want to ensure that were in the library module here. So the click on library in the module picker. Now let's click the import about in the lower left corner of our screen and, as you mentioned, can also choose file import photos and videos from the menu. All right, so the first step in importing our photos is to choose the source location, that is to say, to tell light room were the images are located that we want to bring into light room so this might be an SD memory card or a location on your computer if you're imported directly from an SD card, but in this part is already done for you because the card reader displays in the left pane with all of the images selected. But if you will be importing photos from a folder on your computer, then you'll need to navigate to the folder that contains the images you want to import. Hopefully, these should be under your Main Pictures folder, as mentioned in the previous chapter, it's recommended to move any folders containing images that you want to import Intel. I'd room into the Internet Main Pictures folder, sort of start off in the left pane. Here you'll click the drive that contains the images that you want to impart. So in our case, it will be the name of our hard drive, which is the Macintosh HD here. When you click and light wood expands, the driving displays the folders located in that drive. So now I'll click the Disclosure Triangle next to the Users folder here. This displays all of the users of the Kurds computer, so it takes a disclosure triangle next to my name. What I want to do is never get down to the lesson files folder on my desktop, so I will click their Disclosure triangle to the left of desktop here. Then I'll click the Disclosure Triangle to the left of lesson files. This displays the contents of the lesson files fuller. So the folder that contains images I want to import is this cabin vacation folder, so I will click it here on in the center. Paid here displays all of the images in that folder but default. All of the images in the folder are selected. This is designated by the little check mark in the top left corner of you Chipinge Thumbnail. You can, however, eliminate specific images from the import. To do so clicks a small left box with the check mark on the left corner of the image to de select it. When you dio the image goes black. Informing us of this image will no longer be included in our import. But I want to bring this image end so I will click the check box to return it to selected status Now to select a group of images at once. Here in the list, I was click on the first image, hold on my shift key and then click the last image. And this selects all of the images between and including the first and last images. I sigh, clicked. Then I could click on any of these checked boxes. Ana de select all of them. All of the ISS selected images. So again, I conflict the check box again to re select those images. If you have a smaller display and you're only part of your images are showing you would click Theus Scroll Bar the right side of your screen to drink up or down. So I'm going to click this image of the eagle here and this is in tow. Mueller's to a 13-508 I don't want to import this file. It'll item So it clicks a little box in the left corner to uncheck it. And this selects the eagle image so that it will no longer be included in the import. 7. Setting Copy Options: okay, so another we've chosen which photos to import. The next step is to choose how to import those photos by selecting copy options. So on top of the screen here, there are four different copy options from which to choose, and these are as follows copy as D and G. So this copies the photos to a folder to choose and convert any camera raw files to adobes , digital negative format or D and G. So D and G is an open standard, not proprietary format on many photographers believe that converting your raw files to D and G is a good way to future proof. Your image is ensuring that they will be edible in the future. So don't worry. If you neglected to do this during your import, you could always convert your files to D and G at any time by choosing library convert to D and G from the library module menu. It's also worth noting that many photographers do not convert the raw files to GMG but keep them in the same format dies created in their camera. So there's a little bit of a controversy about this, so you might want to do a little bit of research on this on your own, so you can come up with your own conclusions. So the next option up here is a copy. So what this does is copies the photo files, including any sidecar files to the four that you choose, CEO. So you would use this command if you're adding files from on an external drive or if you wish to simply copy the images from a folder to your designated image folders, you end up having them in two places. The move option up here will move the photo files to live folder that you choose as well as , ah, sidecar files will be moved as well, So files are that removed from their courage location. So you use this option. If you want to move your images from one folder to your designated images folder on the last option is add. This keeps the photo files in their current location so you would use this option. If you already have placed images in your designated image folder and simply wish to add them to the light from Kavlak. Given that our images are not in our light room images folder that main full of that we each other that we created. We will need to move them there. Now, if you are importing from an SD card, you mostly will use eat of ah, copy as D and G or the copy option. In this case, I want the move option. So on top of the window, I look like move, because what I want to do is move the files from the lesson files folder on my desktop to my life from Images folder. Okay, so in the next video will set some file handling options. 8. Setting File Handling Options: from the right pain of the import screen. You can specify file handling options during import from the build previews job. Don't list. Here you choose the type of render preview that you want to use. That is to say how quickly the images render when you are veering them. I either in grid view our loop view, and we'll talk more about views later on. So minimal takes in the thumbnails only during the preview. While selecting a minimal build preview does speed up the import process. It will take longer to view the images as you arrow through them in loop you in the past, that many photographers I prefer the standard build preview as it renders images almost immediately, allowing you to navigate through your images fairly quickly. With the latest version of light room, however, Thean embedded and sidecar option is even faster than standard, and calling photos will be much speedier when tapping the right arrow key to move from one image to the next. So that's the option that I'm going to go West Salam IQ shovel. Make sure I choose embedded inside car from the list. Now handy feature. A light room is the build a smart previous option that we see right here. What this does is allows you to view and work on your images, even if they're offline. For instance, if your photos are stored on an external drive that is not currently connected to your computer, you can still edit those images. Life. Do you then incorporate your changes the next time the drivers connected? So let's activate this feature, so I will click the check box next toe. Build smart previews. Now I'll be able to edit my images when working off line. Now, another foul handling option that we have here is the make a second copy to feature. You know you can never have too many backups of your photos. So using this feature, you could automatically have light to make a backup copy of your imported images toe another drive or folder during the import process. I typically plug in an external drive into my computer whenever I import photos and Sethi option to make a second copy of all of my imported images to that drive. So I will have a copy of those images in my main light room folder, as well as on that external drive. So I'm gonna click the check box next to make a second copy, too. Now, I need to tell light room the location off where I want to make a second copy off my images . So I will click the path name right here, which brings up a dialogue from where we can navigate to our destination folder. So I'm gonna click desktop in the left pane. Double click the lesson files, Fuller. I actually have a folder here called Backups, and this is where I want to store those second copies. So I'm gonna click the backups folder here and then click Choose. You would click select folder there if you're using windows knocked. Typically, this will be an external drive rather than another drive in your computer because you always want your backup folded to be on a different Dr Inhumane catalogue images. So that way, if something happens to your to the drive your main computer, both copies aren't lost. I also want to ensure that the check box next to don't import suspected duplicates is checked. This means that if I've already imported one of these images in a previous import light you won't imported again. OK, so I'm going to click the dour, pointing disclosure triangle here to collapse that panel. And in the next video, we'll look at some file renaming options. 9. Apply During Import Options: When importing your files, you have the option of applying presets that you've created in the develop module, as well as any meta data and keywords from the apply during import panel here over in the right pane. So the meta data drop down list is where you add information about your photos. So at the very least, you might want to add copyright information to your images, especially if you'll be sure them online. Once you've entered in your metadata, you condense. Save it as a preset, which you can then apply during subsequent imports. Now, don't worry. If you forget to add metadata, you could always added it later on in the library module. So let's specify subset, ings, toe ad during import. So if necessary, you would click the disclosure triangle next to apply during import to explain the panel. So now I'm going to click the meta data drop down list here, and I'm gonna choose new. This displays the new metadata preset dialogue. So now I want to provide a name for my presets so that we can easily identify into doing subsequent imports. So I will call this one copyright. So now I'm gonna screw down a bit until I see the i p t. C copyright area. Andi, I will click in the copyright box here. So first off, I want to insert the copyright symbol. If you're using a Mac, you a tap, the option and a G keystroke combination or if you're using windows, you would hold on the altar, keep and press 0169 on the new pad. So I'm gonna top my option. And G keystroke combination on the copyright symbol is automatically inserted. Next, don't have the space bar, and I'm a type in the year, which is 2019. As I'm recording this, then you type in your first and last name. So I type in my name. Stop going to click the copyright status Drop down list here and I will choose copyrighted from the list. You can also add additional information under the I p. T. C Creator area touches your address City state website, email, etcetera. But I think that will do it for us for right now. So I will click create on our preset is created. So now whenever you are performing an import I want to apply that preset to the imported images would choose the metadata, drop down list here and choose a desired preset. And in this case, this will be my copyright preset. If you want to make sure that is selected, so the last option is the ability to add keywords to your images. Now keywords are tags that you adhere photos, which can help you find your images quicker. So during the import process, you should only add generic keywords such as Florida Vacation, for instance, keywords that are relevant toe every single one of the images that you're about to import, and then you can add more in depth keywords to the individual images after the important later on in the library module. So let's have some keywords to our images, so I'll click in the keywords box here, and that will type vacation. So a keyword a vacation will be applied toe all of the imported images. Eso What's that? Some are so I will type in the Kama, tap the space bar and typing outdoors. So every keyword that you want to add you'll separate by a comma. Okay, I think those are all the key words that I want to enter, so I will tap the return our enter key on my keyboard to confirm the entry 10. Setting File Renaming Options: When importing your files, you can choose to either keep the name of the original name that your camera assigned to your images, such as DSC Underscore 08725 or provide them a more meaningful name from the file renaming panel here in the right pane. So, if necessary, will collect the disclosure trying go next to file renaming to expand the panel. So now I want to click the check box next to rename files. This activates the rename files options from the temple. A drop down list. Here There are several custom name format to choose from date file, name, shoot name with original file number. Ah, shoot name with customized sequence and mawr. So, for instance, you can choose a custom name and a sequence. So if I click that here custom name in sequence that he would take the name you want in the custom text box and then type the starch number in the start number box and this is a number at which you wish to start the sequence. As you make changes to these two boxes. A sample line the bottom of the panel here updates to display with the new file name or look like So let's create one. So I'm gonna do the template drop down list here, and I want a custom name for my file. So I'm gonna choose custom name. Now, if you don't see any styles at all when you click on this list, what you need to do is click edit from the list, then click the presets, drop down list and then choose restore default presets. Okay, Such is cancelled out of there. So we've already chosen custom name from the list here. So now I want to click in the custom text field and type in the name, and I'm gonna type in vacation. This enters the text for the custom name field so we can see that all the files will be named vacation Dr J Pick, which, of course, isn't what we want. So that's instead build our own custom template. Someone clicked the Templar drop down list. I'm gonna choose at it. So any current settings or tokens here are displayed in the example box. He leads the tokens here just by tapping the back space key. Or they are selecting it and hitting the delete key on your keyboard. To add new tokens, you choose the desired format from any of the drop down lists here below and then click the insert button. Once a token is inserted, you can quickly change the format of the token by clicking their drop down arrow the right and choosing your desired format. So I want to keep this custom text token, and I'm gonna click the insertion point right after it Did not example. Box here. Phenomena type in the dash character so you can see the example Line updated to vacation dash. So under the additional area, I'm gonna add in a date. So I'm gonna click the top drop down list here for the date format. I think it is one of the year. So choose why, Why? Why? Why? This chooses the format of the date that I want to add to my file name, and we can see the other options here. Two digit year, two days a month to you today, 40 year, two digit month to today, etcetera. But I'm gonna keep it out as why, Why, why, why? And then I clicked the insert button and notice it inserts the token right into the example box. So now when I added underscore after the year, toke it. So I'm gonna hold him a shift. Kids have done the under skirt character on my keyboard. So next I think I wanna out a four digit number sequence. So under the numbering area and in the third box here we see sequence. So I'm gonna collect the sequence drop down list, and I want to choose, as I mentioned, wanted out of four digit numbers. So we'll choose sequence 0001 And this time we didn't even have to click the answer button . It added automatically for us. We see Reeve outed a four digit sequence number to our file name, and we can see appear. Our example. Line shows we have our custom text the year and the four digit sequential number. So I think that about does it. So I'm gonna click the Jun, but in here now, I think a one has set my starting number 2 5000 So I will click in the start number box, make sure that the number of that's already in there is selected on type in 5000 and again we see a sample, Lina. Just 200 changes. So that is it for filed renaming options. The folly naming method that you choose depends on your own personal preference for naming files. That is to say, there is no one correct way. It is, however, a good idea to remain consistent in your file naming conventions. 11. Setting the Destination: all right. Now the finish line is in view is only one final step remaining in our import process. And that is the choose the destination folder, that is to say, the location where you will store your imported images and you do so from the destination panel over here in the right pane. So let me click the Disclosure triangle to expand this panel and then from the fuller tree here, we want to navigate to the folder that is to contain our images. Very often, many people choose their Default Pictures folder for the location of their light room images. But this could be any folder, including external external drives as well. So let me explain. Expand my tree here. I'm gonna expand Click of the hard drive to expand that click on the user's disclosure triangle. Click of the Disclosure triangle next to my name. Click on pictures on light room photos, and that is a folder into which I want to place my imported images. Now, most of the time, you'll want to store your images in a sub folder such as AH folder named Vacation or Smith Wedding, for instance. Now, if you've already created this folder, you could just simply select the folder and the folder tree like we did. If you want to create a new folder, we click the plus symbol and then choose creates new faller from the menu here rather than organise your photos. By date, many people choose toe organizer images by folder to do, sell quickly organized drop down list and choose into one folder from the list money. Create a new folder automatically during the import, check the into folder check box like we have here. And then he would type the name for your folder in the box. Another way to choose your destination folder is back, clicking the icon on the top right corner off the electric window and then choosing other destination, and from here, simply navigate to the folder where you wish to store your files. But we're not going to do that right now. Okay, so I want to make sure light room photos is selected because that's where I want to store my images. I want to organize my images into one folder rather than separate the folders by date, so I would choose into one folder from the organized list make sure my into sub fuller check passes checked and the name of the sub former going to import my images to. I will name a summer vacation now hit returner entered to confirm my entry. And now the last and final step. I will click the import button to perform my import on, depending on how many images you have and whether your images Aaron Raj a pink format. This might take a couple of minutes to complete, and that is importing images. 12. Shooting Tethered: another way of getting photos into light room is by shooting tethered. This means that your camera is connected to your computer via a USB cable, so this teller capture is typically used for studio shoots, although you can shoot teller from anywhere using your laptop now know that during the tethered shoot, images are not stored on your camera's card but rather are out of directly toe light room. So this means that shooting and tethered mode bypasses the camera entirely. So first off you would connect your camera to your computer and then choose file tethered capture. Start tethered. Capture from the menu on the tethered capture settings. Dialog appears so in the session Name box. Here, you would type in the name off the shoot. This would end up being the name of the folder where your story of files so I think about named this shoot studio shoot so typeset in the box right here, sort of the naming area. You click the template drop down list and choose how you wish to name your files. The idea is similar to the File, a renaming panel that we worked with in a previous video. You choose how your images will be named by applying feels to the file name. So you would click Add it launched the file name template Editor that same dialogue that we worked with in the file renaming video. So let's do that. So I think I'm not Choose session, name and sequence. I'll choose that from the list here. So this ensures that the files will be named by our session name, which is studio shoot. And we can see studio shoot reflected of the sample file name box followed by a sequential number and by default value added a three digit sequential number, toe or file name. So what, You've chosen the name template that he would click the choose button under the destination area to choose the location for our images location where you want to store them. So let me click. Choose here. So next I want to navigate to our main light room photos folder So we'll choose pictures here. The left pain have a quick legend photos here in the right pane to choose the folder that we want to use as our destination faller. So then I look like the choose button here, or you would click Select folder if you're using windows and we can see the light room photos has been set as our destination folder from the information area Here, you can add meta data to your images, just as we did in a previous video. For instance, you can apply our copyright preset, the one that we created earlier and apply it toe all of our tethered images. You can also enter in any keywords from the keywords drop down list. So I will do that. I'm gonna choose our copyright preset. So now I'm going to click in the keywords box and I'm gonna type in Jenny and this under the name of Ra Model for a shoot as the keyword. So that's it. So I looked like, Okay, but we receive an error message because we haven't connected a camera to our computer. Now, if we did have a camera connected to our computer like Jim would display ah floating tethered panel. When tethered capture is active, a small barred displays your current camera settings such as your F stop your I s so and white balance as well as your camera model. You can also apply light from presets by clicking of a develop settings list. If you wish to apply the same setting, see multiple images. He would choose the same as previous from the West. Then, when you're ready to snap your picture, click in the round shutter. I cut on the panel or simply use the button on your camera. So when you're done with your tethered shoot you, which was filed Tethered capture stop tethered capture from the menu session ended. 13. Import From Start To Finish: Okay, so this video is going to be kind of a review of everything we've gone over thus far on what we're gonna do is perform an import from start to finish. So to start the process, I'm gonna click my import button here on the lower left corner of the screen on our import window. Appears, you know, from the source, I'm gonna navigate to that lesson files folder the desktop, which is already conveniently selected for us. But if it wasn't, you would choose the name of your hard drive than your users go to your user folder than navigate to the folder that contains the images you want to import. So I want to choose the critters folder here on day. These are the images that I want to import. So from the copy options area, I want to sure insure that move is selected because I would have moved the images from the lesson files folder to my light room photos folder. So from the following naming panel, I'm gonna create a custom template with the word critters, followed by a dash that a two digit sequential number. So I will click the temple, drop down list shoes at it. First off, I'm gonna delete everything that's delete over tokens that are in the example box. So I can simply just type in the name critters the first part of my name out of dash. Now, remember, when a two digit sequential number So one of the numbering area, I'm gonna click the sequence, top the list and choose two digits, and that will do it. So click done on for the start number. I will take the start number box, and I will type in one and then press return or enter. So from the meta data drop down list, I want to ensure that my copyrights preset will be applied to all of these imported images . So make sure that, selected there on, I went out a keyword off animals to all of these images. Okay, so in our destination area, we want to make sure that light room photos folder is selected, which it is. So I want all of these images to be placed in that folder under a sub folder named Animals . So I want to ensure that into sub folder boxes checked here on I want to type in animals as the folder name. We want to make sure that's organized into one folder rather than by the date. All right, that about does it on Die Click Import. To begin the import process, we can see light room is working here. Tells us a smart previews were built. Click. OK, so now we see, we have two folders, animals and summer vacation and also the folder that we named during our fake tethered shoot. Going to remove that from my catalogue here by right clicking in the folder and choosing Remove, They're shoot. Fuller is gone. So we have the animals sub folder on the summer vacation sub folder. 14. Switching View Modes: light room comes with several view modes, allowing you to focus in on an image in different ways. Ah, handy feature in light room is the ability to enter full screen mode using a single shortcut. The F key pressing the F key on your keyboard removes all panels and menus and enlarges the image so that it fits the entire screen. Once you're in full screen mode, you condense. Zoom in on a specific area of the image by clicking directly on the image. Click again to zoom out so the left paid under the folders panel here. You want to click the Animals folder to display the images in that folder. Now, if you're in loop view, you would tap the G key to switch to grid view. But your images are displayed in a grid. So the Sandra Pain I'm gonna click the image of the cougar here, and this is the image that I want to have you in full screen mode, and then I'll tap the F key on my keyboard to switch to full screen view. So now I'm gonna tap the right arrow key on my keyboard. On this displays the next image in the folder, which in this case is a tiger. I will press the right arrow key again on this displays the next image in the Fuller, which is a lie in. So with my cursor, I'm gonna click directly on the lion's head here, and this zooms in on the image. Now, if a click of the lion's head again or anywhere else on the image for that matter, resume out on the image and to exit full screen view, we tap the F key again. He can also switch views by choosing window pointing to scream mode and then selecting the desire to view from the list. We have a few different options here. Full screen, full screen preview, full screen and hide paddles. So I'm gonna click full screen preview here, and that brings us back to that full screen mode that we saw earlier on that we connect it full screen preview assembly by topping the escape key on our keyboard 15. The Lightroom Interface: nightclubs. Library module is a place where you organize and manage your images. The library module contains three panes, each with different functions. In the left pane. You'll find the navigator, the catalogue, the folders, the collections on the publish services panels. Each of these panels will be discussed in more detail in upcoming videos. To expand any of the panels, simply click the left pointing disclosure triangle here to explain the panels and click the disclosure triangle again to collapse a panel. Do the same thing with the fallers. Expand now in the catalogue panel here. If you click all photographs, this will display every single image that you've lower added into light room with right pain. We have the history, Graham, The quick develop panel. The key wording panel the keyword list panel on the metadata panel. These panels help you to manage the metadata of your files. Now, if you ever wish to hide all of the panels and pains except for your work pain, hold on the shift key and then tap the tab key on your keyboard Tap shift tab again to re display them. Now the bottom of the window here is a filmstrip of all of our images. Click on any of the images in the film strip to jump to that image. So if I click on the image of the male lion here, we see that that line that images highlighted now in my center pain. We're working with the film strip. You can also use the arrow keys right arrow left arrow to navigate through your images. Now, if for some reason the your film strip is invisible on the bottom of your screen, choose window French two panels and then choose show filmstrip. See, that is also a keyboard shortcut for that, and that is the F six key. Now the centre pain is the work pain, and this is where you view your images when a new view, which is the view in which, like you've only displays one image in the centre pain. Ah, large version of that image. We already saw that you can click to zoom in on specific areas. Oven image. If you click a hole down new mouse, you can move the image around on the screen to display different portions of it. The centre pain or the work pain also contains a toolbar on the bottom of the screen here. If the toolbar is invisible, you tap the tiki to toggle the toolbar on enough from the toolbar. You can perform such tasks as applying ratings to images and the colors to images flagging and unfailing images. And more on there will be discussing all of that in the future videos as well. The border. Each pain is a thin bar containing an arrow. This is the show Heidi Bar. If you wish to hide a specific pain, simply click Fierro on the bar. When you do so, the entire pain is hidden except for the show hide bar. Then he would click the right pointing error on the show hide bar again to re display the pain. So let's they wanted to hide my left pain. Here I will click this left pointing arrow. Now the pain is hidden, so it's had the top paying, too. Pain is hidden, so the only thing that displays is the show hide bar. Does he move our most part over the show? High bar, the pain temporarily display than Terry. Move away from it now to ah talk a little display back on. We click the show Hide Bar again, I'll click the show right bar again up here and now the pains. Are we displayed permanently? You can also hide and show pains by choosing window panels and then choosing the pains or panels Are you wish to hide? But in our case, we want to keep everything displayed. 16. Using Grid View and Loupe View: light room allows you to display your images in a variety of different ways to of the most common views, however, our grid view and a loop fuel in grid view, which we have raid here. Images are displayed as small thumbnails in rows and columns, whereas loop view displays on lee a single image. So to switch to grid view, tap the G key on your keyboard or you click the grid of you icon here, in the toolbar of the toolbar is invisible topped the tiki to display it, tapping the tiki taka, the display of the toolbar to switch to loop view. Tap the e key on your keyboard or click the loop view I can hear in the toolbar says Let's , which sparked a great of you by tapping the G key on the keyboard. Now, if you're in grid view, you could also tap the space bar to jump to Luke. Few. So if I click the image of the Cougar, for instance, and I tap the space bar my keyboard, we switched to look for you. I'll be tapped geeky to switch back to grid view. What in grid view you can control the size of the image thumbnails here by dragging the thumbnail slider, which is located on the bottom right corner of the work pain until the thumbnails on the desires size. The thumbnail slider isn't visible. You need to click the downwards pointing aero here on the toolbar. Then choose thumbnail size from the list so you can see that a check mark next to any of these items here does he made stuff. The item is visible. So right now we see that the rotate, navigate and slideshow options are not on who wanted a click slideshow and the sleigh Shal options turned on click slideshow again. That option is now hidden. So let's drink the thumbnail slider of the toolbar until three images Perot are displayed, so we'll drink it to the right. Yeah, now we have three images per row displayed in our work pain. So let's click the image of the red squirrel here. I'm atop the E key on my keyboard to switch to loop. You know, when you have a new view, you can change the size of the image from the Navigator panel. Here in the left pane on the available options are on the top right corner of the Navigator panel. The options available are fit, which is the view that we have right now. Leaving a gray border around the image Phil fits the image that it completely fills. The work pain went to one displays the image of 100%. 321 displays the image out of 3 to 1 racial. You changed the racial by clicking the drop down arrow to the right of 3.1 here, choosing a new value from the list so I could judge it. Teoh under for racial Let me changes toe one. Nuan beach changes back to fill. Okay, so let's switch the grid of usable tap the G key on my keyboard. I'm gonna double click on the image of the line in the film strip. This displays the image in Luke Fuel. It's not gonna click fill the Navigator panel. This fits the image to fill the entire work pain. I want to click by a drop down list here on the right, and I'm going to choose, um, Frito one and here resume in on the eyes of the line and we can click directly on the image to move around in the work pain. So this comes in handy if you want to work on specific areas of an image and you want to get in really close. So let me click on Phil. That returns to the view where the image takes up the entire screen and then I'll click fit , which fits the image to the work pain, leaving a thin grey border around the image. 17. Using Compare View: another view in light room is compare view. What this does is allow you to display two images side by side. This view comes in handy when going through a photo shoot of similar images where you need to choose the best one from the shoot to display to images in compare view, selects the images in the film strip and then topped the sea key on your keyboard. The image on the left is a select image that is to say, the image to which you are comparing others on the image. On the right is the candidate image. This is the image that you are comparing to the select image, and you can press the right or left L keys to navigate through your images. As you press the Elke, the candidate image changes. So let's top the geeky and a key bow to ensure that we're in grid view. Let's make these thumbnails a little bit smaller, so that's drink the left dollars good five in each row. So I'm gonna struck the image off the motion line here, and we'll use this as a select image. So now you're gonna hold on your command key. If using a Mac or control key. If using Windows, I'm going to select the image of the lion here. This selects the line image. In addition to the image of the Cougar, the line is going to be our candidate image. So now let's tap the sea key on a keyboard and this switches to compare view. It's now I'm gonna top the right arrow on my keyboard to navigate to the next photo in the folder, and this becomes our new candidate photo. Let's stop the right arrow key four more times. 1234 So now if you find a candidate image that you like better than the select image, you click the Make select icon, which is his. I can hear in the toolbar to set the current candidate image as a select image. So let me stay. Click that, and now we see that the image of the kids has become our new select image and the image that was immediately after the candidate in the folder that has to see the image that was immediately after the kittens becomes the new candidate for every top the right. I will keep five more times 12345 on we end up with the image of the duck as our new candidate. Now, if you wish to switch around the select a candidate image, click the swap icon here on the toolbar, and that is the first X Y icon here. You can, of course, changes select image at any time by clicking a new image in the film strip. So I mean, click the swap icon here on the toolbar on Douala. We've just swapped the candidate and the select images, So why don't you find an image that you want to keep? You can then flag it on. We'll talk about flagging images in the later video, so now that's just tap the geeky to return to grid view. 18. Using Survey View: so the next food that we're gonna look at is survey view. Survey view allows you to view multiple photos at the same time in a grid. This view comes in especially handy when going through a photo shoot of similar images on Do you need to narrow down the keepers to display several images In survey of you, you select the images in the film strip and then press the end key on your keyboard to select consecutive photos in the filmstrip. You click on the first photo, hold on your shift key and then select the last photo in the Siri's. This will select every photo, including the first and last ones You clicked to selection on a Jason Photos, Select the first photo hold on the command key of using Mac or the control key. This week turns us to standard interface view, but there's one thing left to do, and that's to tap the shift tab keystroke combination to re display our panels. There's one more tip that I want to mention, and that is that you can use the shift F keystroke combination to completely fill your screen with the light from interface for a top shift F a second time, it hides everything except for my light room window. Norris that my doc is no longer display. Neither is Amanda Bar, and if I tap shift F 1/3 time, it returns us back to the standard interface 21. First off, let's change the fund size, so to do so, I clicked the font size drop down list here, and I'll choose large. So next that's changed the background color. So under the background area here we're gonna choose fill color under the main window area , and from the drop down list, we're gonna choose Black. But I decided all while I'm black. I want to change it to medium Grey instead. So it's like the drop down list again. On I'll choose Medium Grey Noah's. It says default. So that is the default background. Fill color in light room. So what else? Well, here, under the lights out area, let's click the dim level drop down list and change that to 70%. So this sets the dim level when we're in lights out to mode now to 70%. Interface is the customizing the identity plate. By default, the identity plate displays the adobe light room, branding the top left corner of the page right up here. You can modify this, however, and replace it with your name on the name of your business orographic local file even to customize the identity plate. If using a Mackey would shoes, light room identity played set up or for using Windows, you would choose edit identity plates set up from the Manu, and then he would choose that personalized from the identity plate drop down list. So let's do that. So given that I'm on, America will choose a light room identity plate set up. Then from the identity plate drop down list, I want to choose personalized, and this is the command allows us to create a custom identity plate. So here the window on the left side is where we could enter custom text for identity plague . You can also modify the font family, the font type, the phones size as well as the font color from the drop the lists. Here the identity played editor window. If you prefer to use a graphic file as your identity plate rather than text click fee. Use a graphical identity plate radio about it here. Then you would click located file and then navigate to the folder where that local file is located. But we're going to use text here. I'm gonna highlight the text of the box. It I'm gonna type. Laura Heim is photography. Select our text here because and he changes that we make to the font font. Family font size or color needs to be applied to selected text. So I'm gonna choose the font typeface here. I'm gonna choose bold. So now I want to change the color of our text. So I'm going to click the color chip here, which is to the right of the font size dropped on west. And I'm gonna click the box of crayons and I want to go with a dark red. I think so. We'll go with cayenne. Looks good. Clothes are color window. Okay, So the left area here allows you to personalize the text on the upper left corner of the window. That options on the right side here most to modify the fund front size and color off the module picker up here. So let's click the first module picker color chip here. This to space the colors window for the selected module picker, that is to say, the active module picker you can see. Right now we have library is a white were the rest are kind of gray, So this that's a snow which live which module is active. So let's click that color chip this time and I use the color wheel here and I'm gonna click in the yellow area of the color palette, so that looks good. They don't take the clothes but it on the color window. Then I'll click. OK, now, if I wanted to change the color or font of the modules that are not selected, I would should click the second color chip. But I'm gonna leave those as is, because that's a good color. So, yes, I think that will do it. So let's click OK, and that applies are changes 24. Setting View Options: You can also customize the view options in light room to display extra information about an image when you're in grid and a loop few. For example, you could overly information such as the file name, exposure, aperture or shutter speed on the top or bottom of every image. When you're in grid view, we're in great of you right here. We can see we have a couple of pieces of information. There it is. Playing on the upper left corner is the index number, and we also have a star rating on the color labels as well. Founded shoes view view options from the menu, and you could also press the Commander Control J keystroke combination. So let's start out in grid views will tap grid view here on top of the window. Now there are two types of good view information that you can display compact cell extras, which is right down here. I'm expanded cell extras, which is right tone here, with each of these allowing you to display several pieces of information. This comes in handy if you want to identify key information about your photos of the glance not to switch between these different bits of information to tap the J key on your keyboard . This will talk to you between bare cells, that is to say, no information compact cells on expanded cells. So let me do that. So right now we're in compact cells, tap the J key again. Now we're in expanded cells view, and you can see we have quite a bit of information that display with each image here that the file name the image size, the format as well as a star rating on If I tap the Jakey again, that brings us to bare cells where no information is displayed. I will go back to view options. I'm gonna hold on the command J keystroke combination or you would use control J if you're using windows. If he didn't want to show any information, could always uncheck the show Great extras box as well. But I want to check it here. This is the option to display overlay information about each image when you're in grid view . So then you want to ensure that compact cells has chosen here to enable the compact cells option. So now, under the compact cells area, I want to set file name is the information to display for the top label. So to do so let's click the top level drop down list and choose following. But the future is inductive. It'd yet Now we have to click the top label check box. A notice of the filing automatically appeared as a top label for each image. So now I'm gonna click the bottom drop down list here under the compact cells area and this time, Islander choose exposure and I esol and you want to ensure that the bottom label check boxes check. We can see at the exposure, and I eso appear of the bottom of the gym. A chair. I could always turn that off just by un chucking the bottom label check box. So that's click in the loop through. But in here now, when you're a new view, you can choose to display loop you info one or loop few info to with each overlay containing three pieces of information that you can display if you want to display less than two pieces of information. Just choose the drop down list and then she was done. So right now we're choosing to display the file name and copy. Name on the captured agent. Time for Lupin, For one, For Luke to we have Ah, foul lame exposure. And I s o on the lens setting. But I don't think I'm gonna make any modifications for Luke fuse. So I'm just gonna choose window close window from the menu. So you may wish just gun some time here, experimenting a bit with the view options until the other way You like on the relevant to your own particular workflow. 25. Lightroom Environment: Using What You've Learned: So this video is going to be kind of a review of everything that we've gone over so far in section two. So if you've downloaded the lesson files you can follow along for, the first thing we're gonna do is import some more images into our life from catalogue. So I'm gonna click the import button here on the lower left corner of the screen for the image source. I still have my desktop files folder expanded here, and I'm gonna import the images from the Fuller 2013 folder. I don't want to set the copy options to move. So what that's going to do is move them from here into my main light room folder. So in the destination area, when a click the into sub folder here and I'm going to move that toe a folder named Florida , of course, you want to make sure that our light from photos folders selected. So what that's going to do is create a folder underneath my May light room for his folder and name it Florida. Okay, so maybe click import to import the images you can see light room is in the process of importing our images so we'll wait a second for that. Done. Smart, previous real build. Okay, so on the left in the catalogue area, going to click all photographs and this to space all photographs thus far that are in our light room catalogue. So I'm gonna top the g key on the keyboard to make sure that you're in great of, you know, I'm gonna click the picture here of their two kittens. I'm a tough the e key to switch until loop view. So now I'm gonna top the f key on my keyboard to switch to full screen view. Now, remember to move to the next image in your list. Tap the right arrow key on your keyboard and now, with the image of the brown dog And now to return to normal view, I will tap the f key again. So I want to switch back to grid views. So I'm gonna tap the g key on my keyboard on I want to hide my panels. So if remember to do that, we hold on the shift key and then tap the tab key on your keyboard on all my panels and now hidden. So now I'm gonna double click the image of the duck here and that displays the duck image in Luke Fume. And I want my panel's back. So a press, the shift tab, keystroke combination and villa all my pedals their back. So in the left pane here, I'm going to click on the Florida folder and I'm gonna top the G key on my keyboard to switch to grid view, as we see on Lee. The images from the Florida folder on displayed here in the work Pain. So now I'm going to click the first image here. Hold on my shift key, and I'm going to click the last image here so all of the images are selected. If remember, holding on your shift key while selecting will include all of the images between and including the first and last images you click. So I'm going to switch to serve a view. So I'm gonna top the n key here, so I don't like the image of the typewriter. So I'm gonna move my most points over that image and click the little accident bottom right hand corner when it appears on. I don't think I want any bird images either, so I'm going to do the same for all of them. So we'll click the first bird image X second Bourgain bird image. Here we have a heroin click X, and then 1/3 bird image. I want to click the l key twice to switch to lights out. Remember, we change the lights out background to a medium grey here, and it'll top the l key again to return back to normal mode. So now I'm gonna modify my identity plates in which was life room identity played set up on . I'm going to change that to reflect my own name. And you want to do the same on your version of light room. So my name or Roger hittin in, but you were wanting to pronounce that on. I want to make sure it shows the font color to dark red. Let's take a look at these E I might go with the Cayenne here, so let's do the Cayenne look like, Okay, there we go. All right. Through my identity plate has been adjusted to reflect my own name. So now in my filmstrip here, I'm gonna click the first image on the left. Okay? So we can see I still have these four images selected here in the filmstrip. I want a de select him on a quick keyboard. Shortcut to the select images is ah, command D. If you're using a Mac or control D if you're using Windows, you can also click on an unsuspected image to de selected. Since I'm using a Mac, I'm gonna tap the command d keystroke combination. And now none of the images are selected. So I'm gonna click the first image on the left, holding the shift key and suck the second image on the left. I want to view these two images in compare view. So I'm gonna tap that. See key on my keyboard. So now I'm gonna top the right arrow until the image of the boat appears. So that's not it. There we go. Now I'm going to click the swap icon on the toolbar, and this changes the two images around. Okay, I think that about does it for compare abuser. I'm gonna tap the G key to switch back to grid view. Now I want to display view options so you view options. It could also tap the command or control J keystroke combination to display view options. So under the compact cells Extras area, I'm gonna click the check box next to bottom label here on what do you want to show my bottom label? I think I want to show the rating and a label So I will click that in list here, waiting in label on DA. That about does it for using what we've learned. 26. The Folders Panel: Once you've imported your images, you can access them from the folders panel here in the left pane, the driver you store your images, whether it be a computer's hard drive or an external drive is displayed on the top of this panel. Here, here we can see Macintosh HD is the name of my hard drive. This will be different to, depending on the name of your hard drive. So when browsing the folders panel, it's important to keep in mind that light room is not a file browser. That is to say, Onley. Folders that contain images that you've imparted into light room are displayed in the panel . If you want to import images from a folder that is not displayed here, clicks the import button and then go through the import process. So let's work a little bit with the folders panel here. Now the Fullers panel is collapsed. You would click the disclosure trying. Go to the left of the word folders to expand it. Now I'm gonna click the animals folder in the Fullers panel here on day. Any folders matching your search term will display underneath the search window in the Fullers panel. What's especially nice above this feature is that it will display folders for external drives even if they aren't connected. As long as the folder is part of your light from catalog. I think I look at this feature in a little more detail in a later video. Now, if you wish to view all of your life from photos in one view, are you need to do is click the all photographs entry here under the catalogue panel now reviewing all of our photos from light room. So to move this filter or to display all my full was that click that'll make the fight last again, I'd choose all, and that is the searching for Fuller's feature in light room. 31. 0306 The Dreaded Question Mark: So, as I've mentioned several times now, almost harping on it is important, said you. Do any file management of your images from within the light troop application If you remove or change the name of a folder from outside of light room, such as from the Mac Finder or the Windows File Explorer, Likable, no longer know the location of the Fuller and will display a question mark next to the folder name to tell Light from With a folder in Question is Located, you would right click the Question Mark folder and choose Find Missing folder from the contextual menu, then navigate to the folder on your drive and then click Choose notes that the question mark will also appear next to folders that are stored on an external drive that's not currently plugged in. In our case, we would simply click the insert button toe. Add it, Kevin. About does it. So I'm gonna click the done button here to close the file name, template editor. And this brings us back to the every name dialogue. So I still need to specify my custom text. So in the custom text box here, I'm gonna remove any existing text on I'm gonna type in Florida Dash trip, Dash 2014 dash. And this enters the beginning part there. A new file name. So now on to discuss if I my starting sequence number. So I'm gonna click in the start number box here. We move any existing text and type in 1000 and we can see the example file name here, updates to reflect our new changes. So I think I'm done, so I will click. OK, a notice that all the files have now been renamed according to the options we chose. So as you can see all these fellas, they're still selected. So let me de select them. So do so by choosing. And it selects none from the menu. So you might be asking. Do I have to go through all this rigmarole for only want to rename one file? Well, the answer is Nope. You can also rename individual photos from the file name Field in the metadata panel. So let me expand the meta data panel here. So you just click in the file name, field here and then type in the new name for the file. So it's a quick way to quickly change the name of one individual file. 33. 0308 Deleting Photos: When removing for us from light room, you can choose to remove images from light rooms can log only or delete them from the disk as well. We kind of work with this a little bit in an earlier video. So if you remove a photo from the catalogue only it will be made in its physical location on your computers drive but will no longer display in light room, that is to say, will no longer be part of the light from catalogue. Now, if you choose the delete from disk option, the photo we removed from light room and the original image will be moved to Max trash or to the recycle bin and windows to delete an image, something that you want to delete on top the delete key on your keyboard. So we want to make sure that we have the Florida 2014 folder selected here. Have we want to ensure that were in grid view and again if you're not top the G key on your keyboard. So I'm gonna click the Loxahatchee poster here, Charlotte clicker to select it. Now I'm gonna tap the delete key on my keyboard, so Lightem displays a message box asking us whether we want to remove it from light room or delete from the desk. Someone removed but in here will only remove it from the light room catalog. But the delete from disk option to remove it both from low light from catalogue and from a computer's drive. So I have no further need of this photo. So I'm going to click delete from disk, and this removes the selected image both from light room on from our computers, our drive. 34. 0309 Synchronizing Folders: if you add images to a folder outside of light room, we've learned the lights. Who will not automatically recognize those images? For instance, listener you on a family wedding, and you've already imported all of your images from the event into a light room when you receive an email message from a family member containing additional images from the wedding . Now, rather than saving them to the desk and going through the entire import process, you can actually save them to an existing light room folder and then synchronize that fuller. So what this does is looks for any images in the folder that are not currently in the light from catalogue on ads. They've been for you. If you prefer, you can import them and then use the copier move option in the imported dialogue to copy or move those images toe on existing light room folder. So let's do that. So I'm gonna open up my finder here. And if you were on Windows, you would open up your Windows Explorer. So I'm gonna click desktop of the less pain of pain here, and then I'm are double click the lesson of files. Fuller to open it so I'm gonna click the tiger J P G file here and then I'm gonna tap the command. See? Keystroke combination. If you're using Windows, you would type control. See this copies that image to the clipboard. So now I'm gonna click my pictures folder here in the left pane and then double click by light from photos folder. And I think I put this image in the critters folders so I will double click the Critters folder and then press the command v keystroke combination or control via for using windows on this paste the image into the folder. So now I'll switch back to the light room application and as we can see the tiger images not here because we haven't yet added to our light from catalogue. So now I'm going to right click the credits folder to display the contextual menu, and then I'm going to click synchronize Fuller from the menu. This displays a synchronized folder dialogue. The box shows that there is one new image in the folder that has not yet been synchronized . So I look like the synchronized about in here tells me that once March preview was built that I will click. OK, so now if I click the critters folder again, we see we have a new image. A Tiger J Ping image is now part of a light from catalogue. Now, if you have an image in another folder that's not part of your life room catalog, what you do in that case is right. Click the folder into which you want to import the image or images. Choose import to this fuller from the list and then from your hard drive, navigate to the location where the file is located and then imported into light room. But we're not going to do that. So hit top escape key to get out of there and return to our main light room window. 35. 0310 Using Watched Folders: another way to import your photos in Delight Room is by using the auto import feature. Now. How this works is that you specify ah, watched folder, that is to say, Ah, folder whose contents are monitored by light room. So whenever you add any new images to the folder light UMA automatically import those images and store them in the destination folder that you specify and automatically add them to the light from catalogue. So, as an example, whatever, I plug my phone into my computer and the new images I have taken are automatically copied over to a Dropbox folder called Dropbox Photos. Then the next time I open light room light, who will take those images, I move them into, ah, light room Fuller called iPhone images. Then I can go through them and decide if I wish to keep them, process them or delete them. So let's set this up. So, too, do so gonna click the file Menu Point Auto import and then choose auto import settings. This displays the auto import settings dialog, so I'll click the choose about in here when I choose desktop in the left pane, double click the lesson files fuller toe. Open it, then I want to click thief, older name phone photos And then I'm gonna click the choose button. Or you would choose that select folder. If using Windows, This that's the phone photos folder as the watched folder, that is to say, the photo that light from a monitor. So now we're gonna choose the folder where light room is to store those imported images. So under the destination area here, I'm gonna click the choose button, and I'm gonna double click my pictures folder here. Then I clicked with light from photos, which is our main light room photos folder and then I'm gonna click. Select folders of using windows are choose if using, Mac, this chooses a main light room photos folder. So now I want to specify a sub full or so. The first time I am put images lightly will create that folder for us. So first off to delete any existing text in the sub folder Name box here. And then I did specify a name from my sub folder on. I'll call this important phone images. So that is the fault of the light room will create for us. So I think I want to imply our copyright import preset Teoh. Any images that light room imports from the wash folder? So out of the information area here, I'm gonna click the meta data drop down list, and I'm gonna choose copyright There Now are copyright preset will be applied to all of our imported images. Okay, so now that I've set this all up, I still have not turned it on yet to do so. I think the enable auto import button and then click. OK, Okay. So let's test this out. So I'm gonna open up my finder on If you're on Windows, you'd open up your windows, Explorer. So I'm gonna navigate to my lesson files folders. So that's desktop in the left pane double click the lesson files folder. So file here named Blackbird J P. G. So I'm going to hold down my command key on my keyboard. I never using windows. You would hold on the control key on. I will click the squirrel in dish J. Peg, I'm gonna drink these two images to the phone folders and then release my mouse button. So that about does it. So I'm gonna switch back to the light from application here. Now we see that there's a new folder here called Imported phone Images. I'm gonna click them. We can see the two images that we moved over to that folder. The scroll and dish on the Blackbird have now been inputted into light room. 36. 0311 Using What Youve Learned: Okay, so this is kind of using what you've learned your video where we go over some of the concepts in this section. So I'm gonna start by clicking the critters folder. I'm gonna rename this folder to animals. I think so. Right. Click the folder at I will choose Rename from the contextual menu, and it will type in animals, Then click safe and we can see the Fuller has now been renamed to animals. And that's not just did light room. That is also on our hard drive. Remember the folder names here reflect what's on our hard drive. So I'm gonna click the Florida 2014 folder here, and I'm gonna rename the image of the white dog here. Now, the dog's name is actually Bunning. So that is what I'm gonna name this image so that I marchers library from the menu and choose rename photo on yourself. There's elsewhere keyboard shortcut of F, too. And I'm just gonna name this money dog. Nora, set an example. File name here. It's automatically adding a 1000 after that. I don't want to do that, so I'm gonna click the file naming drop down list here and choose. Add it to open the file. Name template Editor on. I don't want this sequence here anymore. I just want my custom text. I'm going to lead to that. And then click. Done. Now we can see our final name has been changed just to bunny Dash dog, not JP, which is what I want. So I'm gonna take okay and we can see the new file name here on top. So I'm gonna move this image to my animals fullest going to click on drag the image to the animals. Fuller. I will receive a little warning message telling us that we're moving a file on the desk on that The corresponding file on our desk drawer will be moved as well. So I'm gonna click move, because that is what I want to do. So my travel folder here, I'm going to create a new sub folder underneath it on Call it cabin trip. So I'm gonna kick the plus symbol on top of the Fuller's panel here on having a click add sub folder, edible type in cabin trip, and then click create. So I'm gonna switch back to my summer vacation folder here. I want to move the image of the airplane here to the cabin trip Fuller so selected on, then just drag it to the cabin trip folder and release the mouse button on. Have a click move when the dialog appears. Okay, so now let's pretend that I've added some images to my Florida 2014 folder outside of light room and a what? William T. Import those images or to do so bitter right click on the folder name on click synchronize folder. So now if there were any new images added to that fuller there would be automatically imported into light room. So I click synchronize. So now I'm gonna change my auto import settings, my watched folders, settings. So to do something, a click file point auto import and then choose auto import settings. So what I'm going to do is change my watched folder to the Lab folder, which is located under the lesson files folder. So to do so under the Watch full area here, I will kick the choose button and navigate to my lesson files folder in the desktop. I'm gonna click the lab folder and then click choose, And then I looked like, Okay, So now I'm going to click on the summer vacation folder here in the folders panel. I don't think I want to leave this first image here, So I'm going to select the image and then tap the delete key on my keyboard to receive a dialogue here, asking us whether we want to delete the selected master photo from both the disk and light room or just remove it from life room on. In this case, I want to remove it from both, so I'm going to click to lead from disk on. The photo has now been deleted both from are hard drive and from our light from catalogue. 37. 0401 Rating Your Photos: So in this section, we're gonna look at reviewing your images, and the first thing when you look at is raiding your photos so much of imported your images . You want to begin going through them and marking them in various ways so that you can quickly find them again later on. So some photographers like to use light rooms Star rating System, whose ranges from 0 to 5 stars. Such a system can be really helpful when quickly going through images on deciding which ones to keep which ones to print or which ones to post the social media. The meeting of each star really will depend on your own personal workflow. So there are several ways that you could apply a rating to an image. First of all, you want to select the image either in the centre pain or on the filmstrip of your film. Strip is invisible. We just click on our here to display it and then choose photo point to set rating and then choose the number of stars that you want to apply. Notice these numbers here in the right. This tells us that you can also use the number keys on your keyboard toe. Apply a rating, so you were top zero for no stars. Want to add one star to day two stars all the way up to five When you're a loop view as we are here, you can also click the stars icon on the toolbar here to add the desired number of stars. Click photo from the menu on. If there's a check mark next to auto advance here, you want to click it toe. Uncheck it on. We're gonna look at the auto advanced feature later, Ron, in this section in another video. So let's click the animals folder here in the left pane, which was formally are quitters folder. This is the photo that contains the images that we want to use. So if you're not in grid view, you would top the G key on your keyboard to ensure that we're in grid view. So now I'm gonna first sort my images from a click view point of sort. And I want to ensure that capture time here is checked as well as ascending. Yes, well, some of the images in ascending order by capture time. I don't have escaped to get out of that and will work more in depth with sorting in a later video. So now let's click the first photo in my animals full ear, which is the image of the red squirrel. I'll tap the number four on my keyboard. This assigns the image four stars and we can see in the star waiting below the image here and also four stars are lit on our to a bar. So now in the far right side of the toolbar, right above the filmstrip, I'm gonna click this drop down a row now flagging is unchecked. You'll want to check it so that check mark appears next work. This ensures that flagging options are displayed in the toolbar and these there are two flagging options over here. We'll also want to show that rating and color label are chucked as well. Which they are in this case are we just topped the escape key on my keyboard. So now I want to rate the image of the white to dog here, so I will click that image this time we're gonna rate the image from our toolbar. So I'm going to click the Fourth Star from the left here and that applies a rating of four stars to the image. So I decided that I want to rate this as five stars instead of four. With the image still selected, I'm gonna click photo from the menu, points to set rating and then click five stars from the list we can see. We've now applied a five star waiting to this image. So now let's remove the rating from Are Your Major, and to do So all I need to do is tap zero key on my keyboard on the rating has been removed . Now, if you're a grid view and you have the rating and label set in the view options for either the top label or bottom label, you'll see dust either above or below the image. So as a movement most pointer over the thumbnail here we see the dots appear, which means I have rating set on the bottom label for the image. No need to, dio is click the number of dots that corresponds to the number of stars that you want to apply to the image. What's nice about adding star ratings to images is that once you do, you can then filter them by a specific star rating, and we're gonna look at all that a little later on 38. 0402 Flagging Your Photos: many photographer is preferred to keep the rating system simple on. Rather than using a star waiting. They use flags instead. Now there are two options when using a flag system, flag or unflavored, so you might want to flag the images you wish to keep. And then later Ron, remove those images that are unflavored. Or perhaps you might want to flake only those images that you want to print or export to. Flagon image. Topkapi Key on your keyboard. Think uppy for pick. You can also choose photo points to set flag and then choose flag or unf legged. So if you're in grid view as we are here, you could also move the most pointer over the image. We want a flag over most pointed to the left hand corner, and when their flag turns white, click it to flag it to remove a flag from an image top the U key on your keyboard. You can also choose photo point to set flag and then click under flag from the menu. Ah, third way to flag around Frank Photos is by using the flag played icons here in the toolbar . If you don't see the little flag icon on the images when you're in grid View, which want to do is choose view view options on under the cell icons area. Here, you want to click the check box next to flags so that it is selected as it is here. Okay, so let's flakes, um, images. So I'm going to click the first image here of the Red Squirrel, and I'm gonna tap the number zero on my keyboard. If remember, tapping zero removes any star ratings that you applied to the image. So now I'm gonna tap the P key on my keyboard. I never even see my drum. Also out of the white flag on the upper left corner off the F thumbnail here. So now I'm gonna top the right arrow key Emma keyboard to move to the next image. I never tapped the peaky again to flag it, Adam atop the right arrow key on my keyboard again. This time I'm gonna click the flagged I cut on the toolbar, which is right here. So I will click that and the images now flayed. So to collect the flagged icon again, it removes the flake from the image. Remember, they could also tap the U key on your keyboard toe unf lay an image 39. 0403 Rejecting Photos: In the last video, you learned how to quickly flag photos by tapping the peak. He and your keyboard. Another flagging option that works in conjunction with flagging is rejecting. Often been going through your photos. You'll want to flag those photos you want to keep on. Reject those photos that you want to delete. Then he can go through the keepers more leisurely. Later on toe. Apply star weightings or labels to them to reject a photo, select the photo either in the filmstrip are in this work pain, and then tap the X key on your keyboard to remove the reject flag. Tap the U key on your keyboard. Remember, think unpick should also tapped rejected icon on your toolbar, which is the icon to the right to the flag. Daikon. Okay, so let's click our summer vacation folder here in the left pane. So I'm gonna click the fourth image here, and that's the image named Vacation Dash 2013 Underscore 5004 I'm atop the X Key on my keyboard, and then we can see that out of the rejection flag in the upper left corner of the thumbnail. So now I'm going to click the image of the Blue Bridge here. This time I'm gonna click the rejection flag on the toolbar to reject this image. And that's all there is to rejecting photos in light room. 40. 0404 Labeling Your Photos: another way to marker images is by using colored labels. In light room, you can apply a red, yellow, green, blue or purple label toe in image. Some people use labels in conjunction with star weightings so you could end up with a four star image with a green label, Ah, three star image with a red label and so on again. The use of labels and stars depends on your personal workflow. So, as an example of using labels, you might take a vacation to visit relatives during which you shoot 800 photos. You might wanna send relevant photos to relatives. Badia probably don't want to email all 800 photos to them, so you might go through and at a red label to any photos that you think might be of interest to them. Then you can export Onley Those photos with a red label Soto. Apply a label to your photos. Click the appropriate color label here on the tool bar. Or you can press the appropriate key on your keyboard for the label that you want to add so you would tap six for red seven for yellow, eight for green, a nine for blue Now there is no corresponding key for purple. You'll need to apply that either from the toolbar here or from the menu by choosing photo set color label and then click purple. And as we can see, there's no number next to purple here. Top escaped to get out of that to remove a color label from an image, choose the same color again or apply a different color label to an image. So if I had applied a red color label to the average of the raccoon on, I click the Red Square again, the color able has been removed. So let's label some photos. So if you're working along, you want to click the summer vacation folder here in the left pane, I'm going to click the image of the duck here. This is the image that I want to label, So I'm gonna click the red color swatch on the toolbar toe, apply a red color label to the photo. I could also have tapped the six key on my keyboard. So next I'll take the image of this swing here, and I'm gonna tap the number seven on my keyboard. We can see that the yellow label boxes now selected on our toolbar. Now, with the image of the swing still selected, I'm gonna tap the number nine on my keyboard. This changes the color label of the image from yellow to blue. With the image of the swing still selected. I'm gonna tap the nine key again, and that removes the blue label from the image. So the image is now unlabeled, and that's the labelling images. 41. 0405 Using Auto Advance: if you find yourself in to work through a large volume of images quickly that he may wish to turn on light rooms. Auto advance feature. So what this does is once you've out in a star on label or rating, toe on image light room automatically advances to the next image in the folder. This is the case whether you're adding a new rating or updating an existing rating to turn out out of advanced quick thought on the menu and then click auto advance. You can also turn on auto advance by pressing the caps lock key on your keyboard. Auto advance. Well, then we may activate it until you press the caps lock key again. If you want to turn on auto advance only temporarily. Hold on the shift key and then press the keyboard shortcut for the flag you wish to add. For instance, if you held on the shift key and then tap the three key laid remote, apply a three store waiting to the image on, then automatically advance to the next image. Once you release the shift, key auto advance becomes disabled. So let's do that. So I'm gonna click the animals folder here in the left pane. And of course, we want to ensure that we're in grid view, so you would tap the G key on your keyboard. So I'm gonna click the first image here, which is the image of the red Squirrel hammer. Choose photo auto advanced from the menu to turn on the feature. We can see that there is now a check mark next to auto advance. So now I'm gonna tap the number five key on my keyboard. Notice that after light room applied a five star rating to the image and automatically highlight of the next image of the folder snob. Generate this image by tapping the number four key, which applies a four star rating and then moves on to the next image. All wait, This 15 stars will top the five key on my keyboard, which moves to the next image. So now I think I'm gonna add the picked flag to the next five images Or to do that all topped the peaky five times. 12345 So now I'm gonna top the caps lock key on my keyboard to toggle off the auto advanced feature. So I will do that. And now I'm gonna top the nine key on my keyboard. We see here that the image of the brown dog is selected. So when I tap the nine key, it applies the blue label but does not advance to the next image because we've turned off the feature. So if I want to turn the future back on, I can have a tap. The caps lock key are choose photo auto advance from the menu. 42. 0406 Ranking and Rating Groups of Photos: right room allows you to rank and raid groups of images at once, but to do so, you need to be in grid view as we are here. What's a great view? You select the photos to which you want to apply, Ah star rating, a color label or a flay, and then use the appropriate menu command or shortcut key. To select consecutive groups of images, suck the first photo of the group, hold down the shift key and then click the last image in the group. All images between and including the first and last images will be selected to select a non adjacent images. Hold on the command key for using a Mac or control key if using windows, and then click it any images that you want to include. So if I hold mode, my command key here and I click, the image of the tiger came into the line and the image of the kittens. Only those images are selected. So then, once you've selected the images, you can apply the desired rating or ranking. I'm startled by clicking the Animals folder here in the left pane, something like the first image in the pain which is the image of the red squirrel I'm afford on my shift key and then click the last image in the folder. This select all of the images in the Animals folder. Another way to select all the images in a folder is by using the command A or control a keystroke combination. Now that all the images selected here, I'm gonna hold down my command key on defusing windows. You will hold of the control key and click the image of the white dog. What this does is de selects the image of the white dog. All of the other images here remain selected, so I think I'll tap the seven key on my keyboard toe. Apply a yellow label toe all the images in the group that is to say, all of the images except for the image of the white dog. So once attempt to seven, we can see that a yellow label has been applied to all of these images. Now the D select all of these images by choosing edit select none from the menu we see here could also tap the control de or commanded de keystroke combination to do the same thing on this d selects all the images in the folder. So now I'm gonna click the image of the way Doug and I think I want to apply a red label. Twits will tap the six key on my keyboard on I think I want this image to be a three star rating, so I'll tap the three key on my keyboard. Notice the light from applies Ah, three star waiting in addition to the red label to the image. 43. 0407 Deleting Rejected Photos: In a previous video, we learned that tapping the X key on your keyboard sets the flag status of an image as rejected. This usually indicates that these air images that are out of focus, overexposed or otherwise, not good enough to keep. Once you flagged all of your rejected photos, you'll then want to delete them from light room on, perhaps permanently, from the disk as well. The first of all, you need to select the folder or folders that contain the images that you want to delete. Many people forget this step. When you activate the delete rejected photos command it on Lee applies to the folder that you currently have selected. Now, if you want to remove rejected images from all full, is it light room? But you want to do is expand the catalogue panel and then click all photographs on this displays all of the images in all of the folders of your life from catalog, but in this case, I only want to delete rejected images from my travel folder, so I will click that in the left pane here. This will include all images from this sub folders as well. Okay, so to delete rejected images. I'm gonna click photo for the light True menu, then choose delete rejected photos. This is the last entry in the photo menu here. Can also use the keyboard shortcut command and delete if using a Mac or control backspace of using windows. So I'm gonna click delete rejected photos. So now again, we want to decide whether to remove the image on Lee from light room by thinking the removed but in here or removing the image from both light room and our computer's disk drive on. To do this, you would click delete from desk if you choose the remove option, the photos will only be deleted from your life from Count like but will remain under computer's hard drive. So in this case, I want to delete these two images here, both from light room and from the hard drive. So I'm Mexican. Delete from disk, and the images are now gone 44. 0408 Filtering by Flag Rating Edited or Label: so above the filmstrip. Here is a filter bar that allows you to quickly filter the display of images by flag rating edited or unedited in or label status of the bar is invisible. Simply click the word filter here to toggle the display of it. I don't ever want to collapse and click the word filter again, but we'll keep it displayed from the filter bar. You can display images using a combination of flags, ratings on whether the photo has been edited or not, or labels. For instance, if you click the red color square, only images with the red color label will display. If you kick the green square in addition to the red one, then images that contain either a green or red label are displayed. If you then click two stars on the filter bar, then alleged will display any images, which have a red or a green label and have a rating of two stars or above to the left of the stars. Here is a drop down list, which allows you to set how light room filters the star rating you can choose. Rating is greater or equal to which is the default rating is less than or equal to, or rating is equal to. Okay, so I'm gonna kick by animals folder here, and I'm gonna hold on my shift Klay and then click the travel folder. This selects all of the folders in the folders panel. Now again, if you don't see the filter bar here, you want to click the word filter to display it. I do want to make sure that you don't confuse the filter bar with the toolbar, so the filter bar is the one that's directly above the filmstrip. So now I'm going to click the flagged icon on the filter bar. And again you want the flag daikon on the filter. Barton of the toolbar. Click there, flagged I can. This displays Onley images that are flayed, so I want to click the Yellow Color square on this displays. Any images labeled yellow on there are flayed. To make things even more interesting, I'm going to click the third star from the left here. Now this to space Onley. Images that are flagged have three more stars and have a yellow color label applied to them . So now I could customize is even more by choosing how light room filters by the star rating . So to do something clicked a little icon here to the left of the stars, and I'm gonna choose Rating is equal to in this case, we see that we have no images that are threaded three stars on did not have a yellow color label. Now, if this is a filter that you might be applying on a regular basis, you might want to think about saving it as a preset to do so you click the drop down list here on the filter bar, scroll all the way down and choose save current settings as a new preset. So I think I'll name this for Web. Then click create. Now that preset is listed in our drop down list. So now I'm gonna remove all the filters, so I'm gonna click the drop down list here in the far right corner of the filter bar. Angler choose filters off from the menu and that removes all of the filters and re displays all of the images 45. 0409 Navigating Folders: Okay, so we've already seen that you can switch from one folder toe another from the folders panel here in the left pane by clicking on the folder whose images you wish to view. If you have a large number of light room folders, navigating can become rather cumbersome. My requiring a lot of scrolling up and down. He can also navigate your folders for the black bar here, which is located directly above the filmstrip. Now they go back and to go forward. Arrows here allow you to navigate through your recent folders and collections, beginning with the most recent item you viewed. So I'm gonna take the animals folder here in the left pane. This de select all Fuller's except for the animals folder. Now I'm going to click the cabin trip folder. There are no images in this folder, So now I'm gonna click the go back arrow. But that is the left pointing arrow in the small black bar above the filmstrip. This goes back one folder to the animals folder. Now I'm gonna click the go back arrow again on this. Moves back to select all folders. Saddam Two clicks to go forward era, which is the right pointing arrow. This puts us ahead to the Animals folder. You can also jump to a recent folder by clicking the path, which is located to the right off the back and forward a rolls and then choosing a reason folder from the list. And is this tear light room of this play the 12 most recent folders you've accessed. Now, if there are specific folders or collections that you access often, he might want to add them to favorites. Any folders or collections out of two favorites will display the favorite sources area when you click of the path, as we can see here. But I have no favorites saved on to get out of this view atop the escape key on your keyboard. So let's click the path again here, and there was a little black barbe, and for the many here, I'm going to click. Add to favorites with this Does is as the Animals folder for the favorite sources area. I never clicked the path again because, you know, the Animals folder is now listed here. You can also right click a folder or collection and then choose Mark favorite from the contextual menu to have the item to the favorites. So let me click the summer vacation folder. This displays all images in the summer vacation folder, so I'm gonna click the folder path here. Then I'm gonna click the folder animals in the favorite sources this jobs to the animals folder. So this had come in handy if you have a complicated folder structure or a huge life from catalogue, and many people forget about Thea path here, but I find that it can definitely be a time saver. 46. 0410 Using Two Monitors: If you have two monitors attached to your computer, you can take advantage of light rooms. Dual monitor feature. So to do so, you click the second window icon here, the lower left corner of the window. And this is the number two icon on the black barbe of the filmstrip Here. What this does is displays a second window. You can then drag this new window to your secondary screen if you have a second monitor attached. So to do so, we want to make sure that wurst were grid mode. Here. I'm gonna click the Animals folder because this is the folder that I want as my active folder. So now I'll click the second window. I can hear the number two icon and thus displays a second window. Who could see the first image of I have selected is displayed in the window. So from the second window here, we have four view options. Ah, grid loop, compare and survey with a secondary display. You can show your photo on one display on your adjustment panels on another, really happy away to reveal your images. Using two monitors is to set the secondary display window toe loop view on the main display window to grid view, so I'm gonna click loop, view your the top of the secondary window on this displays a secondary window in Luke Field . So here we have three other options in the top right corner of the window, where you can choose from normal. Live or locked. Normal is the default. This view displays in the second monitor window whatever image you have selected in the first monitor window. So I zero I have the image of the red squirrel selected here in the first monitor, which then displays in the second monitor window. You can select another image in the first matter to window on an automatically updates in the second window. So live mode here changes the display as you move the most printer over various images in the main display. So this comes in handy for quickly cycling through your photos on the last option here locked locks, the display and whatever image you have selected. So in my main window here, I'm going to click on the image of the two kids. You could also click on the images in the film strip as well, and as we see this displays the image of the two kittens in the secondary window. So now I'm gonna click live here on top of the secondary window to display the second window in Live You. So now if I move over the various images in my frills trip, we could see that the second window updates as I browse through the images. And when I finished, I wanted to do is move my mouse pointer over the title by here and then click fee Klaus Button to close the window, and that's working with dual monitors. 47. 0411 Using What Youve Learned: So we've come to the end of chapter for So we're going to do another using what we've learned Video Where we go over Ah, concept stuff we've discussed in this chapter, So feel free to follow along if you've downloaded the lesson files. So we're going to start out by selecting the summer vacation folder here in the left pane, and we want to ensure that the auto advanced feature is deactivated on. If you recall, that's located under the photo menu here on If there was a check mark next to auto advance , we would click this to deactivate it. But as we can see, it is not set here, So I'm just going to escape out of this. So I want to click the image of this swing here, and I'm going to apply a four star waiting to it so I could either click the dots underneath here who just tap the number four on my keyboard, which I'm going to dio. And as we can see, that image now has four stars. Now I'm gonna click the image of the brown duck here, and I want to apply a blue color label and a five star rating. So I'm gonna tap the number five of my keyboard to give it a Blue Star Ah fi star rating. I don't have the number nine on my keyboard to apply. Ah, blue color label. I could also click the little blue box here in the toolbox. So I want to turn on the outer. Advanced features are gonna choose photo on to advance from the menu on. As we can see, there is now a check mark next to outer advance. So I'm gonna take the first image here. And I think I'm going to add a flag to the 1st 5 images. And if you recall the keyboard shortcut to out a flag is the p for pick, so I will top the peaky five times. 12345 On as we can see, there's a little white flag, the top left quarter of the 1st 5 images and then I want to deactivate out of advanced features. So it's like photo and click on to advance. So now I want to change the rating of the swings here 20 stars. So just tap zero key on my keyboard, and I think I want to reject this immature of the Eagle's nest, so I will click it here. I never recall a shortcut key to eject of photo as X and we could see the little X flag in the upper left quarter of the image. So now let's switch to the animals folder here in the left pane. And I want to apply a blue color label toe every image in this folder with the exception of the red squirrel. So I'm gonna select the first image here, hold on my shift key and then select the last image. And all of the images are selected except for that of the red squirrel. On this time to apply a blue color label, I'm gonna click the Blue Square here on the toolbar. And as you can see, all of the selected images now have the blue label applied to them. Okay, So when a de select all of these is selected images, so I will choose at it, select none from the menu. And here's our images with the blue label. Apply to them. So I wouldn't apply Ah, five star rating to both the line in the mountain line. Simon, a select image of the mountain lion. Hold on my command key. Or you would hold on to control, keep using windows, then stuck the image of the lion. Then I will top the five key on my keyboard. Teoh, apply a five star rating to both of those selected images. Now I want to apply a three star waiting to the image of the brown dog and the image of the kittens. So I'm gonna take the image of the kitchens here on top three on my keyboard on Click the Image of the Brown Dog here and topped the number three on my keyboard. So now I want to remove the flag from the image of the tiger sitting up right here. This time, I'm going to click the image in the filmstrip. Add to remove a flag from the image. If you recall the shortcut key is the U key Foran Pixar topped the U key on the flag disappears. So now I'm want to select the Florida 2014 folder here in the folders panel, and I think I want to set the image of this lard boat here has rejected. So I select the image Andi I'll tap the X key on my keyboard. So now I want to delete all of the rejected photos from all of my folders in light room. So to do that, I click all photographs here under the catalogue panel, which displays all photographs in my light room catalogue and to delete them. I choose photo from the menu on the very last item on the menu is delete rejected photos, and we get a little message box asking us if we wanted to lead the photos from the disk or just from light room on. I want to delete them from the discus well soled shoes delete from disk, and that's it. 48. 0501 Adding Keywords: from the right pain. Here is the key wording panel from where you can add descriptive words to your images. So keywords allow you to find your images quickly as well as help you to more easily filter your images. So to add a new key word to the keyword list is this little box here that says Click here, tad keywords. So you would click in the box type in your keyword, then top returner Andrew to add the keyword to the keyword tags box here. If you prefer, you can also simply type in the keyword directly into the box, separating each keyword by a comma if you want to apply the same keyword to multiple images . He was selected the images here, there in the work pain of the filmstrip and then just type in the keyword on it will be applied to all images that are selected, So I'm gonna click the Animals folder here in my folders panel. I don't click the image of the red squirrel. So in the key wording panel, I'm gonna click in this small box here, it says, Click here to add keywords. This sets the cursor here in the key wording panel box. So now I'm gonna type in Red Squirrel. Then I'll top the enter key on my keyboard. I mean, see, that key would have Red squirrel has not been added to our keyword tags list. So lets out another. So now I'm just gonna type in squirrel and then tap return or enter on my keyboard, and I'll add one more this timberland a rodent and then tap the return or enter key on my keyboard. So now I'm gonna add a keyword to more than one image at a time. So I'm gonna click on the photo of the white dog. Here we will hold down my command key, and you would hold on the control key fusing Windows. I'm a sexy image of the brown dog. This selects both of the dog images. So the key wording panel we'll click in the my small key wording box here in the bottom of the panel on all type dog and then top returner under on my keyboard. So now I'm gonna choose at it. Select off of the menu just like all of the photos in this folder and here the key wording panel and going to click in the box here and type it animals than to confirm the injury. L tap the edger key on my keyboard there. I've just added a keyword of animals toe all of the images in my Animals folder here, so I think go out another. So I'm gonna type in ah, critters and tap the enter key on my keyboard as you had keywords for more and more images , the Keywords Suggestions panel who begin to populate with relevant keywords and let's expand that panel. Take a look. The key would suggestions are based on the other key words that you've entered. It learns from what you do, so becomes more relevant. The more files you teii with keywords. So you click on any of the key words here in the keyword suggestions list and will be added to the keywords tags box. So while the key was suggestions may come in handy, you could also create groups of keywords called keyword sets. These contain a list of keywords for a specific category and can significantly speed up the key wording process. For instance, if you're a wedding photographer, you might have a keyword set entitled Wedding which may include such keywords as Ah Bride Groom Ceremony Case, Bouquet reception, Mother of Bride, Father of Bride, etcetera. So to create your own keywords, set click the keywords said to drop down list hair and shoes at it set. Then once you've added in your keywords, choose save current settings is a new preset from the drop down list. But I'm gonna cancel out of this. So now I'm gonna click in the summer vacation folder here in the left pane. I don't think the image of the duck here. So now I'm gonna take the keywords set, drop down list and choose recent keywords from the list. This displays list of recently applied keywords, so all click critters here we can see that the keyword of critters is automatically added toe a keyword tags. So let's add the animals keyword as well. So we'll click animals, and it automatically adds animals to our keywords tags box. So now let's create our own keywords set, so I want to click the drop down list on the key was set panel here and shoes at it set. So now I'm going to delete any words that I don't want to use. So I'm gonna delete Minneapolis here how to lead outdoors and I'll delete vacation. So now I think that should about do it. So I'm gonna click my preset drop down list here and choose save current setting xyz new preset. So I think I will name my precent animals. No, do that. Type that in, and then click create change. So now we see the new preset that I've created with the key words that I've entered that could always out additional keywords by choosing edit set from the drop down list and then typing in and the additional keywords. Okay, so what have you been applying a keyword to images all day long? I realized afterwards that you've made a type of the bride's name was actually Annie and not. And luckily, you don't have the fix that typo in each image. The key wordless panel here in the right pane list every keyword that you've used the active light room catalogue. So what you would do is friend the keyword that you've misspelled, right? Click it, then choose edit, keyword, take from the menu, and then here you can type in the correct spelling of the word what you hit save the chains will be applied toe every image in light room containing that key word canceled there. Okay, so here's a quick little tip. If you prefer using a keyboard rather than a mouse, you can add keywords from the keywords. Set pain here by using a keyboard shortcut if I hold off the altar key. If you're using Windows or option key for using a Mac, you can see that corresponding numbers now appear next to each keyword in the keyword set panel. Then, already to do is press the corresponding number along with the Ault, or Option key toe added to the keyword tags list. It's not just a quick little temp, and that is key wording in light room. 49. 0502 Adding Metadata: Also located in the right pane is the meta data panel cemented A. That is information about the photo, such as copyright information, camera model, shutter speed, aperture, I eso, lens length image caption and much, much more. Some metadata can be modified, while some cannot. A meta data travels with you images so it is available and nobody what application you used to viewer and nurture images. You can add meta data into images from the metadata panel to do so, clicking the appropriate boxes or use the irrelevant to drop down lists. If you find yourself adding similar metadata, often you might want to create a meta data preset, which you can then apply to individual images or two groups of images. This is similar to our be dead recreated, our import preset in a previous video. What's nice about metadata is that social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as photo storage sites such as ah, smug bug in 500 PX will pick up the title and caption of your images when importing, saving you from having to do that later. So now I'm gonna take the animals folder in the left pane here, I'm gonna click the image of the red squirrel. So if necessary, you'll want to click the Disclosure Triangle to expand the metadata panel. So I'm gonna click the drop down list on top of the metadata panel. I want ensure that default is selected. This ensures that the default metadata options are available. So now I would have changed the file name of this image. So I'm gonna click in the file name box on I will type red squirrel dot J J P g top returner Enter as we can see in the work pain here of the name of the file has changed to what we typed in in the metadata panel. So now I'm gonna click in the caption box and type in Ah, curious red squirrel. Then it will tap the enter return, came a keyboard, and that adds a caption to the image. So now I'm gonna click the preset to drop down list here. I'm gonna choose edit presets to display the edit metadata, presets, dialogue. So what I want to do now is to create a precept that I can apply toe all of my images start I'm going to scroll down until I see the I p. T. C creator area. It's now been added some information, So I'm gonna click of the creator box a number type in. Okay, Garrity and this interest in the name of the photographer. And typically, this would be your own name. So nama click in the creator website area and I will enter in. Ah, www Gerrity photos not come. This, of course, would be your own website address. So now I'm going to click in the Creator email box and I will type in Eric Gary. Photos don't come and again. Typically, you would add in your own email address. So now it's time to save our preset. So to do so, we click the preset drop, don't list on the top of the window here and choose Save current settings is a new preset. So I think I'll call this photographer. So I'll type in photographer the priests of Name Box, and then I will click create Ah, precent has now been created from l. A click done to close the edit metadata presets window. So now I'm gonna select all of the images in the animals. Fuller sold. Choose, edit select all. So now on the metadata paddle here, I want to click the preset drop down list and choose a photographer preset, the one that we just created. So this displays a message box asking you if you wish to apply the president to all of the selected photos are only the active photo, which is the photo of the squirrel here. So I want to apply my precinct, all of them. So I will choose all selected. So there are just applied the present. All of the currently selected images in this fuller there is to say, the day that we added in the photographer preset is now apply toe all of the images in the animals folder. So that's how to add better data in light room. 50. 0503 Finding Images Using the Filter Bar: night rooms. Search feature is both flexible and powerful in that you can search for photos by keywords . File name captured metadata attributes such as ranking labels rating flag status. And this is all accomplished from the filter bar here on the top of the screen. Now, if you don't see the filter bar, choose view show filter bar for the menu. Or you can tap the backslash key on your keyboard to toggle the appearance of the air filter bar. So I'm gonna click all photographs here in the left pane, and this is a very important step if you want to search through all of the images in your life from catalogue. So I want to make sure that our filter bar is displayed here and we'll start by working with the text tab. So we'll click text here in the filter bar. So from the text tab, you can search by a specific category such as keywords, file, name or caption, or you can search by any searchable field. So I'm gonna click the text drop down list here, and I'm gonna choose keywords from the list, and this says the option to search by keywords so Now, I'm gonna choose the logic operator. Drop down list here. The second dropped a list, and I want to choose. Contain this specifies that any matches that contain the word or letters entered will be displayed. Phenomena click in the search box to the right off, contain. Here on, I must start typing type sq U. And as a start, typing images matching that which I typed, begin to display he received of the image of the red Squirrel appeared. So let me backspace. I'm gonna type in dog this time. Now we see we have two images with the keyword off dog. So now, to remove the filter, all click text on the field, Jabbar on the filter is removed. So if you moved to another tab, you want to make sure that you click the tab for any previous searches to remove that filter from the results. So let's do another one. But this time we're gonna do meta data, so I'm gonna click meta data on the filter bar here. This displays, um, edited a tape of the filter bar. So the matter data tab allow you to search by any searchable metadata. So like to hear, displayed some default meditated columns for US keyword, camera lens and label. Sort out another column. Click the fly out menu in the top right corner of any of the columns and shoes. Odd column. Then click the title of the column and choose the field by which you wish to, ah, filter your photos. Likewise, you can click the title of any of the other columns to change the field that is displayed, and to remove a column, click the file menu together and choose remove this column. Okay, so I'm gonna click the name on the title Bar of the Left. Most column. I want to make sure that keyword is selected from the list. This insurers of the left Columnist two is set to a field to buy keywords. It's on the list here. I'm gonna click on the word critters in the keyword column. This will display only images with a key word of critters, which we see here in the lower pain. Now I'm gonna click the column heading for the second column, and again we can see a list of all the searchable metadata fields, so one metal better feel that you might find handy is the date filter. This allows you to narrow down your search by year, month and day, thus eliminating the need to organize your folders by date of your hard drive life from Does it All for You? So let's check it out. So again, virtues date from the list. Now I'm gonna click theater Disclosure Triangle next to Ah 2013. This expands the 2013 section on. You can see it's grouped by months here, so now you want to hold on the command key. If using a macro control key of using windows to select non tenuous months, I want to choose April July on December, so this displays Onley images with a key word of critters that were taken in these three months in the year 2013. So now let's take a look at the attributes tab, so I will click that on top of the filter bar. The attribute tab allows you to filter your search by flag ranking, rating or label on. This works exactly the same way as the filmstrip filter bar we worked with earlier, in which you select only those attributes that you want to display, so I'm going to click the four star from the left here. So now we're only display images with a key word of critters. They were taken during the months of April July in December 2013 and that have four or more stars. Okay, Sanoma click None here in the Phil Jabbar, and this removes all of the filters on displays once again, all images in my catalogue now a recent feature in Light room that you might find handy his ability to find images that are edited or unedited. So to do so. Let's take the metadata panel here so that I click on a column to display the minute it a list on you want to change when you meditate a columns to add it. So here we have two options edited or unedited. So since I have not yet ended in any of my images in the develop module, we see that I have zero edited images. And if I click on that, you see that no photos match our filter electric unedited. That is to say, these air images to wish I have not made any develop module adjustments to we can see here that we have nine unedited images that match the rest of these criteria. Yes, and that's finding images using the filter power in light room. 51. 0504 Sorting Images: light room offers a couple of different ways that you can sort your images. You can quickly arrange your images using the sword to drop down list on the toolbar, and that's right down here. Now, if you don't see an item with the word of sort of the toolbar, you need to click the Disclosure triangle on the right side of the toolbar and click sorting so that it's check. So once the sort option has been added to the toolbar, you consort by a number of different options, as we can see captured time added or file name, file extension, buy rating by pick, etcetera. The same sorting options are also available on the light through menu to choose view short and then choose how you wish to sort your images. One other thing that I've noticed with sorting as every now and then there'll be no sort option year and no sort option here. So what it had to do in that case is go to grid mode, and then the sorting options appear, and this has happened to be a couple of times. So Ah, little bug in this version of light, Um, that I'm using Let's play around a little bit with sorting. So I'm going to click the animals folded in the folders panel. So I'm gonna click this sort of drop down list on the toolbar here to display the sorting menu. And I want to sort this by captured time. So we want to make sure that captured time is checked care if not, click it to select it. So I want to sort by rating. So I'm going to click the sort of drop down list again. And this time I'm gonna click rating and you can see my images are now sorted by rating with zero stars. 1st 1 star second, etcetera To change the sort order from ascending to descending or vice First step we clicked the A Z icon here in the toolbar and we can see the Z A. I cannot displays as Z A which lessons now that we're a sorting in descending order, I click it again Ascending order So I wanted to sort this folder by rating. In descending order, I would ensure that I chose rating from the short list and then click the A Z icon so that it reads Z a with Z and top indicated the list is now in descending order. So I'm gonna do another sort. And this time I'm gonna use the menu. Certainly choose view, punch to sort. And then I looked like file name from the list. So now the images sorted in ascending order by file name on that sorting in light room. 52. 0505 Using the Painter Tool: ah, handy it often underappreciated feature in light room is the painter tool, which is located down here in the toolbar. If you've worked with the format, pager featured Microsoft office products such as our Word or Excel, that you'll be familiar with the concept. So what the painter tool does is allows you to paint and attributes toe multiple photos simply by clicking on them. So this comes especially handy if you want to apply after boots to images that are located in multiple folders or collections. So the icon for the pager tool resembles a paint can. And if you don't see this on the toolbar, you need to click the Disclosure Triangle here on the right side of the toolbar and click painters so that it is checked. So I'm going to select view point of Sort and then click Custom Order, which returns the images to their original sort order now, wondered sure that we're in Great if he was suffering loop for you like this. Tap the G key on your keyboard. So to activate painter, I look like the painter icon down here. So what attributes? So I want a paint. I think I'll paint keywords. So let me click the pain to drop down list here, and I will choose keywords from the menu finality to enter the keyword or keywords that I want to paint. So I'll click of the little enter key words here box and I'll type in zoo there. So now I'm going to click on all the animal images here, except for the image of the two kids and the image of the two dogs. So I think of the red school here. We see it says, assigned keyword zoo. So I click on the cougar, the tiger, the tiger, the Lion Seal and that is it. Okay, so not gonna click the pain to drop down list, and I'm gonna choose label from the list. So I think I will add a red label to the images. So I'm gonna click the red color square in the toolbar. So you want to make sure you click it on the toolbar and not on the filter bar down here. So this sets red is the label that I want to apply. So I'm gonna click on the image of the Red Squirrel. We can see the red label has been applied to this and I'll click on the two images of the tiger. So red read snow. I'm gonna click the summer vacation folder here in the folders panel. Remember, that red color label here is still selected on my page. Can is activated. So I'm going to click here on the image of the duck on the outdoor swing away on. As we can see, a red label has been applied to those images. Okay, so I think I am done. So I'm gonna click on the round circle to the left of the word paint here on the paint tool is deactivated on that is the pain tool in light room. 53. 0506 Creating and Using Collections: so a handy way to quickly find similar files is to group them into a special folder called a Collection. So think of a collection is sort of a photo album, Ah, way to organize your images so they can find them quickly when you need to. So the collections panel is located in the lower left pain directly underneath the folders panel here, and to expand it, I would click the left pointing disclosure triangle here, so to create a collection to select the files that you want to add to the collection and then click the plus symbol here on top of the collections panel. From here you have a few options, but the one were interested in has created collection well, then want to ensure that the includes selected photos is chucked, and that will add any of the photos that you've already selected to that collection every to simply want to create a new blank collection, and he would simply unchecked the check box. Then, once you've created your collection, you can add additional files to the collection just by dragging them from the filmstrip or from the or the work panel directly to the collection So let's create a new collection. So I'm gonna start by clicking the Animals folder here in the folders panel. Now I want to select all of the large cat images, So I'm going to click the image of the mountain lion here and then hold down the control key for using Windows or the command key. If using Mac on, click the images off the two tigers on the male lion. So as we can see my four large count images air now selected so now all creates my collection. So I think the plus symbol here on the top right corner of the collections panel and click create collection. So I think I'll name this cats. So you want to make sure that your cursor is in the name box and I'll type in cats and we want to ensure that the include selected photos. Option is checked so that'll do it. So I will click create, and so we see our new collection here in the collections panel on that I have four images in that collection, which are the images of the cats that I had selected. So let's add some more images to our collection So I'm gonna click the Animals folder here in the Fullers panel, and now I'm gonna click the picture of the Kittens Andre Git to the Cats collection. So and then we see the Katz's Highlands, where he release my mouse Potter. Now we see that there are five images in the collection, and if I click on the count's collection, there's the images of the kids. We added now notes that any files you add to the collection folder will stay there until you remove them. So to remove a fall from a collection right, click the file and choose removed from the collection or can just simply select image. You want to remove and press the delete key on your keyboard, so notes that collections are not copies of your images or your original images, but rather they are links to the originals. So thus, if you delete an item from your collections, it is not deleted from light. Room is only removed from that particular collection, so that is to say the original photo remains in your light from catalogue. You can also create a collection from an existing folder in your library to do so right Click the folder from which you want to create a new collection on choose Create collection . In this case, it's travel, but that would be whatever folder you have selected. And from here, you can also choose to a rename the folder if you want to not just cancel out of there. So if you ever want to find out the parent folder of an image in your collection, maybe you want to do some. Maybe you said you wanted to leave it in which, completely from light room, so you would have to go to the original location that image. So to find the parent folder oven image slept the image right, click and choose Go to folder in library and notice. We immediately jumped to the animals folder. Likewise, if you're browsing through your life from catalog, I want to find out in which collections and images located right click the photo point to go to collection. You can see that this image is located in cats. It was located any additional collections, they would be listed here as well. So you really appreciate collections when she began working in the develop module because it collections panel shows up there as well as in the library module, so that you can work on a different group of photos without having to go back to the library module to switch folders, and that is collections. 54. 0507 Creating Smart Collections: now, in addition to standard collections, you could also create smart collections whose contents are dependent on criteria that use SEC. So a smart collection is a virtual collection that automatically groups and manages your images. For example, you could create a smart collection to display any images that do not have a rating. So the moment that you add are waiting to any of those images. They will immediately disappear from the collection. So let's create a smart collection. So I'm gonna take the plus symbol here in the top of the collections panel on a winner choose Create Smart Collection from the list this displays to create smart collection dialogue. So first off, I need to specify a name for my collection, so I think I'll name this. Favorites now, in order to create a smart collection, will need to specify criteria. For instance, you can create a collection that displays any images that have a rating of five stars and have a red label applied to them. Or you can create a collection to display and the images that contain three or more stars and whose keywords contain vacation. You can even choose the display images whose capture date is within the last 12 months or to display all images which have been taken in the past year. And what's nice is that you could have as many criteria rose as you want. So I'm gonna take the match drop down list here and I want to choose. All this means that in order for an image to be displayed in our collection, all of the criteria has to be met. She also choose any if you want. Once we've chosen any, that means that in order for an image to be displayed, any of the criteria that we've set has to match. So even if it matches on Lee one of the criteria that we said then I will display. But we want all here. So the first roll I'm going to click the left most drop down list. We can see all of the options that we have here. I wanna choose Rating this sets rating is that first criteria. So I would expect the second drop down list here and choose is from the list and you can see we have other comparison Operator as well is not is greater than is less than and so on . So I only want to see images whose rating is five stars. So in the third column here, I'm gonna click the right Most got. Okay, so I think I'll add another criteria row, uh, this time of label color. So we'll kick the plus symbol here to add a new criteria wrong. And this time I'm gonna click the drop down list here, and I want to choose a label color. I want to assure that the second drop down list here reach is on. I think I'll go with blue in this case, so I'll click blue from the color drop down list. So another hand to use for a smart filter is to display any images to which you have not added keywords, a caption or a title. So if you wanted your filter to display all images without keywords, for example, we would have a new criteria role here and from the drop down list, I would point to other metadata and select keywords in the first field and then I would choose are empty. This will then display any images, do not have keywords assigned to them. But I don't want to do that. So I'm gonna click the minus sign here to remove that criteria role, so I think they don't do it. So I'm gonna click, create. And as we can see, we have two images here that match the criteria that we set that is to say, of five stars and a blue label applied to them. Remember we we chose also all of the criteria has to be met. So now I'm gonna click the animals folder here in the folders panel, and I expect the photo of the lion and I'm gonna click the red label on the toolbar. So that's which is the label from blue to red. So now if I click my favorites Smart collection, we can see that the line images no longer displayed because it no longer meets the criteria of the favorites collection. So that's how to create smart collections in light room 55. 0508 Creating Quick Collections: There is one final collection that you can create a light room, and that is a quick collection. So what this is is a temporary collection that allows you to add images it one keystroke so quick collections are way too quickly. Group together several photos temporarily. So perhaps you want to give someone a quick slide show or show a client some examples of your portfolio. This also comes in handy when you want to group images from several different collections. Soto add an image to a quick collection. Tap the B key on your keyboard on the image is then added to the quick collection, which is located in the left pane here under the catalogue panel, as I can see right now, we have no photos in a quick collection by default. The quick collection is set as a target collection that is to say, a collection that allows you to add images to it. By pressing the Beaky, you can tell which folder is set as a target collection by the plus symbol next to the name of the collection and this instance, It's quick collection here, so I'm still big taking the animals folder here in my folders panel, and I think of the image of the red squirrel and tap the B key on my keyboard. This adds the image to the quick collection, and if you look here in the left pane, we see that there is now one image is part of the quick collection, so Mom takes the image of the seal on tap to be key on my keyboard, which then adds the seal to the quick collection. Let's see what else I think all of the image of the two kittens here is so toxic that and tap to be king. Now I'm gonna click the summer vacation folder here, take the image of the duck and then tap the B key on my keyboard. So now let's take a look at our quick collection. So a click quick collection in the left pane here on, we can see all of those images that we added simply by tapping the B key on a keyboard. If you want to save the images in your quick collection toe, a standard collection, you can do so by right clicking the quick collection and choosing save quick collection from the context row Manu. Then you were typing the name that you want Free new collection. So let's do that. I'm gonna name this collection to be printed on. Then I will click Save You see that a new collection has been created in our collections panel that were in our quick collection. So as we can see, the images that we added to our new to be printed collection have now been removed from a quick collection. So let me have another guy image toward quick collection. Here, I'm gonna click. The image of the brown dog topped the B key on a keyboard. So another way to clear a quick collection without having to create a new collection from it is by right kicking in the collection and choose clear quick collection that removes any images that you've added to the quick collection. And that is ah, quick collections in light room 56. 0509 Creating Collection Sets: Once you've created a collection, you may wish toe organize them into meaningful folders called collection sets. Collection sets are not themselves collections, but rather are containers for your collections. For instance, you may want to create a separate collection for your vacation photos, photos of your family events or for pet images. What you name your folders will depend on your own personal workflow. You can create collections from within collection, set or drag existing collections to your collection sets, so let's create one. So I'm gonna go over to the collections panel here in the left pane. I'm gonna kick the plus symbol right here and choose create collection set on this displays that creates collection cell to dialogue. So now I think in the name box, and I will type in a name for my new collection said on. We'll call this one pets. Now you want to make sure to un check the box next to inside a collection set so that it is unchecked, as as shown here. This will create the collection said under the root directly in the collections panel. If you wanted to create a collection set within a collection, said or in other words, nest collection sets. You would check the box and then choose the desired collection center, the parent collection set from the drop down list. But we're gonna leave this uncheck and I'm going to click create, and we can see our new collection set raid here. And the icon is more of ah, off a folder. Okay, so let me drag my cats collection to my pets collection. So I will just click the cats collection here in the collections panel and regular right to pets, and then release the mouse button. And then we can see that cats is now stored in the pets collection set. 57. 0510 Creating Collection Sets from Folders: ah, handy feature in light room is the ability to create collections on collection sets from your folder hierarchy. This will set the top level folder as a collection set on Alvy and the Sub Fours as collections. He also create a simple collection from a fuller by right clicking the Fuller and choosing Create Collection Folder Name. So I clicked the travel folder here in the Left pane, and this is the folder that you want to create as a collection set. So right click the folder and shoes create collections had to travel, and I'll just name this my travels and then I'll choose create. So here Tony is we have a new collection set called My Travels, and all of the sub Fuller's underneath were created as collections, so quite a little handy feature in light room 58. 0511 Grouping Files into Stacks: handy feature in light room is the ability to group multiple images into one item called a stack. And to do so, we choose photo stacking on group into stack from the menu. You can also use the command G keystroke combination if using a Mac or control G if using windows. So I'm gonna click the animals folder here in the folders panel. And now I'm gonna select the images that I watch to include in my stack. So I'm gonna hold on my command key since I'm using a Mac. And if you're using windows, he would hold on the control key on, and I'm going to select the two images of the tiger here. I don't want the squirrel, the male lion on the image of the kittens. Now I'll choose photo stacking group into stack from the menu. So those selected images have now been grouped into ah, stack. As we see here, what items are grouped into a stack? A badge displaying the number off images in the stack is displayed in the left hand corner of the image thumbnail. To view the images in the stack, you click the number badge or choose photo stacking expand stack from the menu should also topped the s key on your keyboard. So I'm just gonna top the little number badge here on that expands my stack, and I think it again to restock my images. So now we see here that the tiger is the top image of our stack. So I'm gonna change this to a different image. So to do so, I'll click the badge to expand my stack. And I think one of the image of the two kids to be the top of the stack. So it was selected. And then choose photo stacking. Move your top of the stack. Overnight would be ideal, so once you begin the process, light room will search your Khao Lak for any images of people on display. them in grid view in the centre pain. So let's see how this works. So I'm going to click import here in the left pane on the source paradigm to navigate to my lesson files folder that's on my desktop. Here you may click lesson files light True. Click the disclosure Trying to expand it and I'm gonna click the folder names Social. This is the photo that contains the images that I want to import. So I'm gonna click the start fighting faces an entire catalog button. This will search my entire library for faces. He also received a message telling us that face detection is on, so we know it's all these images have a little question mark underneath them. That means that they're ready to be named since we can see we're in the unnamed people in really here As we begin to name images, these images will then be moved from this area to the named people. I'm gonna click in the gray box beneath the image of the man wearing sunglasses, and this allows us to type in a name. And I'm gonna type in Mike for this image. Top returner enter, known as Mike, has been moved to the named People area. Now, next I'll take the gray box beneath the image of the man were the gray and black hat, and I will type in Mike for this one as well. No tap returner. Enter this again provides a key word of Mike to the image. So under the name of people area, I'm gonna double click the mic image. So these are the two images to which I replied, the keyword of Mike. So in the bottom area here, under similar light room displayed similar images that it thinks might be Mike to confirm that they are indeed the same person. A video in which we go over some of the concepts that we talked about in the s sorting and organizing photo section. So to start out, I'm gonna create a new smart collection. So I'm gonna take the possible here in the collections panel, I'm choose create smart collection from the list. So what I want to do is create a smart collection that will display any images that have the key word of dog. So to start out with all name this dogs. No, I don't want this inside. Any collection said yet something's gonna uncheck this box. So this first drop don't list. So I'm gonna click by Animals folder here, and I'm gonna take the image of the two kittens this seleccion Majid I want to export it's now or choose file export from the menu to display the export file dialog. So I'm going to scroll down until we see water marketing. And if necessary, you would click the Disclosure Triangle to expand of this section, and I'm going to click the check box next toe watermark toe. Activate the watermark section. Now, if by some chance off the boxes great out that you're unable to select it, what you want to do is click the export to drop down list, click email and then choose the expert to drop down list again, and then click hard drive. That should reactivate that section. So now I'm gonna click the water marking a drop down list. Here I want to choose edit watermarks. This displays the watermark editor, so there are three main sections to the watermark editor. There's image options, text options on watermark effects. So from the image options here here, you can choose to use an image as your watermark rather than text. So you might do this if you have an image with your logo or brand that you want to use to block him. Our color. Very images. So to do so, you expect the choose button here and then navigate to the folder were that image is located so I'll just cancel out of here. So the text option section allows you to change the font in the font style, the alignment on the color of your text. You could also modify the shadow of your text by dragging the a passive the offset radius and angle sliders until it's the way you want. So from the watermark effects section down here, you can modify the A pass ity of the watermark change its size. Modify the vertical or horizontal incent or anchor its position to a specific area of your image. You can also modify the text of your lawyer Mark from this box here, directly underneath the preview window. So that's do that. So I think I'm gonna change my watermark hair to read Eric Garrity photography. So I'm gonna type that in here notice as we type the preview window updates to reflect our changes. So now I'm gonna change some of the text formatting here, So I'm gonna screw up until I see text options. And, of course, if this area isn't expanded, you protect the disclosure triangle to expand it. So I think I must click thes style job down list here. I'm gonna turns out to Italic knows not text on a preview. We know adjusts as you make your changes. So now I'm gonna collect this color square here to change the text color, and I think yellow would be a good color for a watermark. So I'm going to click lemon. It could also choose yellow from the color wheel if you so choose. So I think that looks like a good color boat rate here. Now, close the color window. So now I think I want to change the size and location of my watermark. We do that from the watermark effects section down here and again. If that section wasn't expanded, you would click the disclosure trying go to display it. So I'm gonna drink the size slider. Tell us about their Yes, that looks good. So now I want to set the location of my watermark. So I'm gonna take the circle in the last row, the last column of the anchor box here. We can see that my watermark jumps to that location of the image. So if I click the 1st 1 first row first column, he would jump to the upper left corner. But I wanted to be the lower right corner, so look like that again. I think I want to add a little bit of space between the watermark of the edge of the image . So I'm gonna drag the horizontal slider here to the right a bit, and you can see that are watermark is moving a little bit left. So yeah, that was good. That about does it. Maybe I'll move it up just a tad as well, and I'll drag that vertical to the right, and I think that should do it. So I'm gonna take the save button here. So now I need to name my piece. That's so I think I'll call this Eric Watermark. Then I look like create. So now I want to ensure that Eric Watermark is displayed in the water marking I drop down list here so that it will be applied to the export. And now I will click export this export see image on ads are watermark information to it. So let's go take a look at the image. So I'm gonna click Finder desktop DoubleClick, the lesson files folder exports and on top, my space bar to preview the image. And here we can see the image with a watermark off the lower right corner. If I were doing this for my own images, I would probably make this a little lighter. Decrease the a passivity of it. I'm making a little bit smaller, too, so it doesn't take away from the image itself. So that's some creating an export watermark 65. 0604 Export to Email: we've already looked at how to export images from light room to your hard drive or tow an external drive. So once you've done so, you can then attach any exported images to an email message. If you so choose, there's an easier way to export your images to email directly from within light room. And that's using the email photo command from the file menu so you would click file email photo from the menu and then from the email dialogue you would endure in the recipient's email address message. Subject on anti texture. Wonder include in the email. You can also specify the desired file size of the image from the preset drop down list here , the lower left corner of the dialogue and choose ah, full size large, medium or small city councilor. This I'm gonna click the image of the male lion here. This is the image that we want to email. It's not much use file email photo from the menu. So I went in and deleted the account that I already had in there so I could show you how to set up a new account. If you're using this future for the first time. So because there are known counts, the new account dialogue here displays. So, of course, if you've already set up in a county would just just get past this part. So on the count name box here, I'm gonna type in a name for this account. So I will type in Eriks Gmail. So in the email address box here, this is where you type in New York. You guessed it. Email address Osama, type in Eric Garraty at gmail dot com. Now, I want to make sure that from the service provider you type in your email host in this case , it's Gmail. So if your email is hosted by someone other than the hosts listed below here, you would choose other than entering the necessary information. But we're going to stick with Gmail on the last. You type in your password, and I'm gonna type in. Let's pretend my passport is pumpkin 84. Okay, so we're done. So I'm gonna click, OK, this returns us to the email photo dialogue. So now I'm gonna enter in my own address here in the to box on now, doesn't type in purity at security photos not come and the subject box, Uncle, Type in eyes a lion, if necessary, Click the from drop down list and choose the email account from which you wish to spend the scent of the message. And as I only have one account here, that is account that displays here by default. So I'm gonna click. The priest said, Drop down list here, and I want to choose for email from the list. And this optimizes the file side for sending via email. So if I wanted to send this, I would click the send about it. But as I don't, I'm gonna click. Cancel. So that is how to send an image to someone via email directly from within light room. 66. 0605 Publishing to an Online Service: we've been working thus far with getting images out of light room. Another way to do so is toe export or publish them toe, an online service from the published services panel located in the left pane. That's right down here. Published services are those services that connect toe light room on, allow you to publish to them without leaving the light room application. So by default we have hard drive adobe stock, Facebook and Flicker, which are displayed in the panel. There are many more available that you can add by clicking the finding more services online . But in here, as we can see, I've out of the SmugMug service to the public services panel, you know, is that one of these services here is the hard drive. So yes, we've already learnt how to export images to our drive using the File Export command from the menu. But you can also set up a service that accomplishes the same thing, and this is especially handy if you publish in the same way to the same folder repeatedly. So once you set up your service, you can then Drake images from one or more folders to the service in the published services panel. Once you do like room, then places the images in the new photos to publish Window on. When you're finally ready to publisher images, you would click the publish button. Once images are published, you can still continue to add images to this location. On Lightning will display which photos are published on which have not yet been published. So let's give this a try streak and see how it works so well to set up Ah published service to export images, too. Are hard drive uses Pacific settings. So let's think of the words set up here in the hard drive button. This displays a light room publishing manager. Okay, so I want to create a new services. I'm gonna click of the description on. I'm going to call it to be uploaded, and this under is a name for our service. So the export to location I'm gonna click the drop down list here, our shoes specific folder, this healthy option to export. And he selected images to a specific folder on our hard drive on an external drive. So now I need to choose the location, so I'm gonna click the choose button here. Click desktop of the left Pain and double click The Lessons Files folder. And this is the folder to which I want to export. So I'm gonna click, choose, we can see Our far expert location is now reflected in the expert location area. So I want to put my files in a sub folder. So I'm gonna make sure that the put in sub full or check boxes checked here and now I need to name my sub folders. So I'm gonna click in the put in sub folder box. I think I'll name it. Upload some type loads in the box here together specifies a name for the folder toe wish. We want to publish our inner images. So notes that folder names cannot contain spaces, but they can't contain gashes or underscore. So now let's go down to the final settings area. We want to ensure that J peg is displayed in the image format drop down list or about it through the different form. Or you could just click the list and then choose from PSD tiff D and G or original. And I'm gonna slide the quality slider to about 80 here, or you could type in the value in the box if you so choose. I think I'm gonna add a bit of sharpening here. Some to scroll down to output sharpening. I'm a collect the sharpened four check box toe, activate the feature. So now I'm gonna click the drop down list here, and I want to ensure that screen is selected on the other. Options include match paper or glossy paper if you happen to be printing your image out on either of those types of paper, but we're gonna leave it for screen and I'm gonna leave this as standard here. That's a that's typically a good amount of sharpening. And lastly, I need to choose what to add to the file's metadata sort of the metadata option here. Gonna click the include drop down list. We see some options here. Copyright only cooperated contact info, all except camera raw, all except camera on camera info or all. And I'm going to choose to include Onley, the copyright and contact info only. So that means that no metadata about my camera camera Satyam settings will be saved with the file. So I think that dabo does it. I'm not gonna include a watermark on. I am not going to rename the image here. So now I'll click. Save this saves our publishing preset, so let's test it out. So I'm gonna wanna click the animals folder here in the left pane, and you want to make sure you're in grid mode here, and I'm gonna click the image of the brown dog. What I'm gonna do is drag this image to the up loads fuller here under the hard drives service. So let's do that. Click the dog and drag it to the uploads Fuller here. Well, this does his copies the image to the up close folder. It are a hard drive published service. So I think I'll out another one. So I'm gonna click the summer vacation folder here in the Fullers panel. I'm a drink. The image of the duck when you just cool down in the left pane here gonna drag the image of the dock to the applause. Fully weaken Snell. See that there are two images. Once again, this copies the image to the uploads. Fuller. It are Hard drive published service. Okay, so let's click Thea PLO's folder. We can see that there are two images ready to publish. That is to say, these have not yet been published because we see up here, it says new photos to publish so we could continue adding more images to this Until we're ready to publish to our service, I think I am rubbing. I'm gonna click the publish, but it on top of the central pain here and we can see was publishing. And now the images have been published in August. The text up here, the center paint changes to published photos. So that was fun. And so let's do some are Well, maybe one more. So I'm gonna click the cats collection under the critters collection set. This, of course, displays all the images in a cat's collection. So, as you can see, you can drag images to a service from either one of your folders in the Fullers panel or from a collection. So I'm gonna drink the image of the sitting tiger. I think it's not gonna drink that image to the Abalos folder. Now we can see there are three images in upload. So if I click the applause fuller, we see that there are two images that have already been published on one that, as of yet has not been published. So I'm gonna publish this image as well. So I look like publish up here on the images published to the service, and this publishes the Tiger image to our uploads fuller. So if you wanted to see what other services there are out there or search for a specific service, just click. The might find more services online button is open it up in your Web browser, and here you see all the services that we can add, and then you can, ah, search the marketplace for services here as well. So that is it for publishing twin online service. 67. 0701 Backing Up Your Lightroom Catalog: So now we're gonna look at catalogue management and light room. So whenever you make changes to an image of light room, those changes are saved in the light room catalogue and not to the image itself. Thus, if something should happen to your catalog, any changes that you've made to your images are gone as well. That's why, in addition to backing up your images, it's also essential to back up your life from catalogue. So I want to choose a light room catalog settings from the menu, and if you're using Windows, you would choose edit catalog settings. This displays a catalog settings dialog. So now I want to click the general tab on top of the window to ensure the V a general tab is the active tab when you are first setting up back up in life from the default of save location is your computer's hard drive. You should instead back up toward an external drive. If possible. The whole purpose of backing up your catalog is toe. Have a copy of it in a different location than the original in case something should happen to your computer's hard drive. You can also choose how often you wish to back up. So many photographers set light room to back up the catalogue every time light room exits on this ensures that there is always a duplicate of the latest version of the catalogue. If you didn't make any worthwhile changes to images during your light room session, you can always opt to skip the backup when exiting. So I would expect the backup catalogue drop down list. Here we can see all the different options we have, and I'm gonna choose every time light room exits this. It's the option to back up our catalogue every time we exit to light room. So now I'm gonna click the clothes about it on top of the window here. So let's test it out. 70. Choose light room, quite a light room from the menu. Or, if you're using windows, you would choose file exit first, like humans asking us to rule onto cuenta. Yes, we dio, and then this displays the backup catalogue window. So the first time this to special want to set your backup folder? So, ideally, as I mentioned, this will be on external drive or a network drive, so I'm gonna click choose here. Metric. My data files external drive here. So this is where I want to back up my foul so that I'll click Choose. And now we noticed that our backup full has been changed to volumes Data files. Now I will click a back up, so this backs up our catalogue and exits light room. 68. 0702 Using Multiple Catalogs: The light from catalog file contains information about your photos, metadata, GPS data collections, flag ings, ratings and more. But you are not limited toe one catalogue. However, light room does allow you to use multiple catalogs. So, for instance, you may wish to keep your business photos separate from your personal photos. Or you might want to have ah, separate catalogue for a specific client shots to credit. New Kalac choose file new catalogue from the menu light, remove, then automatically shut down and reopen using the new catalog. The new catalog is completely empty, ready for you to begin importing images. So here light room is open with catalog that we've been working with s so far. So I'm gonna create a new catalogues in which was filed new catalogue from the menu Similarity to specify a name from the catalogue and the location. So much. Save this and my pictures folder. So I'm gonna choose my home folder here and then choose pictures now to name it. I think I'll call this student catalogue, type that in the box and then click create, since there's no need to back up my current catalogue, given that I didn't make any changes to it. I'm just going to click Skip this time and that closes light tube on. Now it's gonna open with the brand new catalogue, and here we see opening Student catalogue on. We have a completely empty brand new catalogue. So now let's import some images into our Kalac's. We're gonna take the import button here on the bottom of the left Pain Sidani to navigate to my desktop. Someone click. Users here think my name desktop. And then I want to click my extras Fuller. And this is the folder that contains the images that I want to import. So I want to ensure that move is selected here because I want to move the images in the Extras folder toe our main images folder. So now I wanted to let them to import the images toe a sub folder named extras. So under the destination panel in the right pane here, click fee into sub folder box and then type in extras. I'm just gonna leave everything else says it is, and then click import, and this imports the images from the Extras folder into light room. So now we have three images in our brand new catalogue. So what if I want to open my other catalogue, the one that created in the first video to open another catalogue, which whose file? Open catalog from the menu. Now I need to navigate to where the catalog is story. So I'm gonna click my home folder here that I'll double click pictures. We'll double click the Leg Room folder, don't click the light from catalog file here and then click open. And so no light to ask me for. Want to relaunch with this? Kellogg and I do sell a quick relaunch, closes that Kellogg and opens light room with our original light room catalogue. So this is how to create multiple catalogs in light room. 69. 0703 Using Multiple Computers: third, many people who believe that a light Jim Kavlak should only be used on one computer. That is to say, you should not work on the same catalogue on more than one computer. There are people, however, whose work requires them to use an office or home computer as well as a laptop out in the field. In such cases, it may be necessary to use the same light from catalog from more than one computer. But know that if you do choose to use the same catalogue of more than one computer, you can't have the catalogue open on two machines at the same time. That is to say, you cannot to be working with a catalogue on your desktop and open the same catalogue on your laptop. So there are a couple of ways to accomplish using multiple computers one way, although a rather dangerous one is to copy and paste the catalog, file back and forth from one computer to another. The danger here lies and accidentally overriding your catalog file with an older version. The easiest way I find to work with the same catalogue of more than one computer is to store the catalogue on a portable external drive that you can plug into both computers as needed. The light who may operate a bit more slowly. If the catalogue is stored on external drive, it may be worth it. If you need, you can lock to be portable now, in moving your light room catalog over to an external drive, you want to ensure that you copy over all three files in the catalogue folder, and those are the catalog name with the extension. L are capped. The catalog name Space previews with the extension L. Our data Onda. Lastly, the catalog name. Space Smarts previews dot L our data. Now, if you can't remember the location where you saved your catalog files, um is a quick way to find it. I want to do is choose a light room and count lock settings from the menu or for using windows. You would choose edit catalog settings and for the general tab of the Catholic Settings Dialog, we see the location of our Najim Kellogg. We can click the show button to display the My Dream catalog files in the finder for using Mac or in Windows Explorer for using windows. So here it could copy the catalogue Fuller to your external drive and hear all those files that I mentioned. So you want to copy these all over because eases raises to copy the entire folder with all of the electric catalog files inside. So I'm just gonna click the close budget on the window, and then I will click T closed budget on the catalog settings Dialog. Now some people store their light from catalogue on a sink. Cloud drive Such a dropbox one driver Google Drive. Now, if you go this world, you want to ensure that the catalogue has completely sink before attempting toe. Open it on another computer. Otherwise, data loss could result. So another method for using multiple computers, although a much more complicated one, involves emerging catalogues, which will take a look at in the next video. But it is recommended, however, and to use a light from catalogue on one computer only whenever possible. So here's a quick tip. If you ever need to rename your catalog file, you'll want to ensure that you re name all three files in your catalog folder armatures light room catalog settings. Here I'll click show to bring us to our life from Kellogg Folder And here all of our catalogue fells on. You'll want to rename all of them. So the name of my catalog file here Waas is ah, life room catalogue A very original name. But one thing to note is to make sure to remember to include ah, space between this name of your Kellogg and previews naming the Kellogg and Helper. You may have another file called light room catalog name, Space Smart preview as well. Under those case, you want to make sure that you keep the spaces as they are, so that is a using multiple computers in light room. 70. 0704 Merging Catalogs: if you have created multiple catalogs, wish to bring everything together under one can log. What you can do is merge multiple catalogs into a single catalogue, having only one catalogue concertedly simplify your workflow. So to merge Kellogg's into One opened the Kalevala you want to set as your main catalogue. On this will be the catalogue into which you want to import. The other catalogues, if you really want to start fresh, can always create a blank brand new can log into which you import your other existing catalogs. Then he would choose file import from another catalogue from the Life Who menu, which is right here. So let's do that. Let's choose file import from another kind of log. So, in my case, disrespect to find a window because I'm using Mac. Or I would display Windows Explorer window if you're using windows. So I'm gonna take my pictures folder here in the left pane. There you are, and then I'm gonna double click my student Kellogg folder toe Open it. And here is the catalog file that I wanted to import. So I'm gonna click student Kellogg and then I'm going to click. Choose this displays the import from catalogue dialogue. Now, if you only want to import specific Fuller's from within the Kala, you just uncheck any of the folders that you don't want to import under the Kela content area of the pain here. So I want to ensure that all folders is selected. This is the option to import all of the folders and images in that catalogue. And in this case is only one folder of images called extras. So now let's click the file handling drop down list here, we're gonna choose copy new photos to a new location and impart we're going to do is move the important images to remain light through Forest folder. So I will choose that sodality dispense if I the location where we want to Ah, move our photos to somebody Click Choose here and I'll click the pictures I cut in the left pane. I'm gonna choose my life from photos folder here And then I look like choose Or you would click a select folder for using windows that should about do it. So I've chosen all fallers in this catalogue t important and have chosen the location to or want to import them. So now I will think impart a knows that I have a new folder here now on my folders panel called Extras in which there are three images. 71. 0705 Writing Changes to an XMP File: If you upload your light from photos directly from your hard drive, tow an online service without first exporting them from light room. You might be surprised as well as dismayed to discover that none of the changes you made here files are displayed. This is because light from stores all of this information, including any modifications you've made in the develop module in the Lights room catalogue and does not embed it in the file itself. To ensure that the information is stored with the file, you'll need to export it, toe a format such as J. Peg and then include the metadata in the export. You can configure light room to create a separate Ex MP file for each of the photos so that if you add a photo an online service, the changes will be reflected. However, created all of these X and P sidecars can tend to slow down light room, so instead of 10,000 files, you would now have 20,000 files. The decision to activate this feature is a personal preference and is dependent on your own workflow. To turn it on, you would choose light room catalog settings from the menu. That's of using a Mac. If you're using Windows, you would choose edit catalog settings and then you would click the metadata top here and then click the check box next toe automatically. Right. Changes into ex MP, so I will check that here. So now, photo information for each photo will be written into a separate sidecar file. If you wish to create ex MP sidecar files in a photo by photo basis, you can do so by tapping the command s key if using a Mac or control s key if using windows , What this will do is create a separate sidecar file containing all of the metadata for that particular image. Note. However, that would share in the image you need to share both the image on the X and P file. Okay, so I've had the option to automatically right changes into an ex MP. So I'm gonna close this dialogue here. Start. I'm gonna click critters here in the collections panel. I only want to display images from this collection, and we want to make sure that we're in great views or if you're not to attack the G key on your keyboard from you click the image of the white dog here. And since I'm using a Mac, I'm gonna hold down. Command s. If you're using windows, you would hold down control ass on here like trip to space. A message asking us if you want to save the meta data to a file. And I do. So I will click. Continue. So let him saved the metadata for just that file. The file of the l Y two dog. 72.
