This course is for beginners, and not only, who want to know more about acrylic painting. In this class you will learn techniques on how to make large abstract paintings with various acrylic paint and gold leaf. You are encouraged here to use your free hand, create new patterns and satisfying textures.

1. Welcome to the class!: Hi, My name is George and in today scores you are going to explore the abstract world of painting. You will be using brushes, but let knives as well as acrylic paint and, of course, gold foil. It's the chip kind. Don't worry. It creates the same effect as the rial gold foil, but it's less expensive. Don't worry. If you don't have these specific colors, you can also use different colors. Just choose them. Carefully search on Pinterest for interesting color combinations. Color palettes This is the beauty of this abstract painting. It can be done on a small canvas on a big canvas and, of course, with different kinds of colors. So every technique you will learn in this scores can be applied into countless other abstract paintings. This course is perfect for beginners and more advanced painters as well. If you haven't picked up a brush and painted before, this is a perfect course for you because you will learn everything inside the course. Not only that, but you will be encouraged step by step with wonderful words of encouragement, and if you have painted before, you will learn different techniques on how to create an explore abstract painting, you will learn how to create satisfying textures, how to apply the paint with a palette knife with a brush and also have to applied gold foil . And not only that, but you learn about different ways to create shapes, to create textures to create depth in the painting. You will also learn how to give this impression of a very, very complex painting. But it will be so easy to make that you yourself will be amazed at how easy it is. Thank you and welcome to the course. 2. Materials: Okay, so for this painting, you will need a plate. For mixing colors, you will need a big flat brush and a small flat brush, as well as the trusty rusty old palette. Nine. You will also need some white glue mixed with water, 30% water, 70% white blue. And in case you have specific blue for the gold foil you. You can also use that if the hobby lobby or the art supply store has that blue is more indicated and, of course, some gold foil. The gold foil is the cheap kind, so we can easily spend a lot of it just by applying too much or just playing. And, of course, acrylic paint. This is Amsterdam acrylic paint at 500 milliliters. And of course, this is white. We are going to use some yellow, some turquoise, some neon pink, some red and some blue and, of course, uh, squared canvas. The canvas size is not really important. This design works on any kind of canvas, any shape, any size. Well, of course, if it's two centimeters by through sent to me, there's then it's gonna look. It's gonna be very hard to work on But as a rule of thumb, it's weight. Better to go big because big abstract paintings look absolutely gorgeous. And that's all you need for this project and without for their do, let's just start the process of painting. 3. First Layer of paint: Okay, so for this step, you're going to need some white and some yellow. We're gonna makes a little bit of yellow into that beautiful white. Maybe a little bit more. You're just going to need to spread it around with the bullet knife just like that. Make it nice and beautiful. A very intense yellow with white now indicating, uh, horizon line. Just putting down a little bit of a line with the brush with the big flat brush. Just feeling free as we go along, going from the left to the right with him. Beautiful strokes covering those edges, the canvas. And then, of course, the top as well as you can see, this yellow is quite beautiful, covering up all the signs of the canvas as well as the metal. Let's go in for the left hand side corner. You can apply it if you want to use some water. Of course you can. Just a little bit to make the paint a little bit flowy And just like that, playing with the brush, achieving this beautiful, beautiful top of the canvas yellow. Now taking a little bit of that neon pink and mixing it straight into this yellow we created. We can add it straight on top of the first layer of paint, and as you can see, it brings up a little bit of that pink, a little bit of that beautiful hot pink. You can take a little bit of that yellow that we created previously and added on top to create this layer effect to create this blending in between the colors. Don't worry too much about the application. Taking a little bit of yellow and a little bit of red, we put some red on the on the let and then mixing it this time with the brush. You don't have to clean the brush up and done. As you can see, we've created A nor INGE and my head is in the frame. For now, it's not. There you go. Just put it on the sides of the canvas. Just at the edge is on the top, the left and the right of the edge. Don't worry too much about the application. Of course. Now you should have some paper towels to clean up the brush. This step is very important. Cleaning up the brush you're going to see in a second. Why we clean up the brush. And then just like that, we can mix those colors together. Wonderful. That was the first step. That was super, super easy. Now we can go into the second step. 4. Neon Pink Layer of Paint: Oh, now you're going to need a little bit of that neon pink and a little bit of that red, and you can mix it up just a little bit, just like that into the beautiful pink. As you can see, it's quite dark on the palate, but on the canvas you will see it's quite a Nintendo pink. As you can see, it's a beautiful, beautiful pink, and you can start to lay it in. Don't worry too much. We're just going to go down and sideways, just making that horizon line a little bit more interesting, a little bit more straight. And then, just like that, you can go down up sideways almost at the middle, just a little bit, the right going with this pillar, miss table. Whatever you might call it, it's an abstract painting. Take a little bit of water just to spread that beautiful paint around a little bit more. As you can see, you can take a little bit of water and make that paint a little bit more spread out, of course, checking on camera to see if it's still recording. And then, just like that, putting in a little bit more color. Of course. Just making it a little bit more intense, maybe a little bit in the corner. Don't worry too much about the application of the Spain, because all of this will be almost 100% covered, as we will layer more and more. Get that color a little bit more intense. Just focus on the medal of the shapes, maybe connect them, make them a little bit bigger, play around with the brush, put in to the right side as well, and we can go into the next step. 5. Blue Layer of Paint: okay for the next layer, you are going to need that beautiful turquoise and a little bit of that blue. That's surreal. Ian Blue and just makes them a little bit together. Just like that. Easy pz he can now start to put in. Don't worry if the pink hasn't ride yet. It's OK if they mix and create this beautiful, beautiful purple as in C. It's getting quite interesting, actually, and you can put in overs. Now you should focus on during the whole canvas, where it's white with this beautiful blue just like that, making it a little bit more turquoise just a little bit more. And painting gets just like not covering the whole canvas and making sure that we go over the pink a little bit as well, just to make it all alert. Very easy to do. And don't worry too much about the application once again, because this layer will show up approximately 5% in the end. Nonetheless, this layer is very important, actually, because it's the under painting. We get the gist of the colors we are trying to convey, also getting rid of the white. There you go 6. First Textures with Turquoise: Okay, Getting with the palette knife a little bit of tour Coy's mixing it all together. And just like that straight up turquoise, you can start to add some textures just by dabbing this beautiful. Pull that knife and dragging it around. You can create these beautiful, interesting shapes. Don't forget to changed the angle of the palette knife and applied different textures by having by swiping my doing a lot of emotions. Slowly Take your time, Mrs Easy. It's just like in kindergarten, as you can see, mistaking and having fun moving in two other areas as well, taking a little bit of that yellow. Unfortunately, that's clean up the let knife. And now with the palette knife clean, we can take a little bit more turquoise, maybe a little bit of white. Don't get overly excited about putting in white just a little bit. Start dabbing and applying more paint, going in towards the bottom of the painting as well. Ask towards the pink parts. This is a very fun and relaxing activity, and it looks so colorful and vibrance. Don't worry if it doesn't look the same. No abstract paintings ever do look the same. We try to make them the same. But the textures. That's the beauty of this kind of painting. Just the textures just that did the very beautiful color and shapes that it's created just by doing and not thinking. It's sort of like a meditation. Just try to make and leave a little bit of that blue, darker blue just showing through the the texture, just like mats and going down, taking a little bit more color, making it a little bit more white dad and get a little bit more making more textures just like that very fast and loose and trying to analyze where it needs this beautiful, beautiful texture. Getting a little bit of the color and drinking it around just like that makes it a little bit more fun and interesting trying to scrape it out, put it elsewhere and it over the pink a little bit. And just like that, you can see we almost covered all the blue, just leaving 5% showing through chest a little bit more. And there you go with this step as well 7. Textures with Neon Pink: okay for this next step, you're going to need some a beautiful neon pink straight out. Just put it and dab it the same way you put the turquoise on. Just dab it, trying to not cover all the beautiful turquoise underneath, going over and trying to connect those two colors together. Now we are going into each other a little bit. As you can see, you can go and to the tour Coy's just as it cries. It's still wet, almost to 100% wet, but it creates this beautiful, beautiful inter lace of color. And they mentioned just like that, taking a little bit more pink from there and trying to connect those make like a bridge in between. The colors have a transition, so taking the bullet knife toe aside, making the shape a little bit bigger as it goes towards the quote unquote horizon line. And, as you can see, trying to move over to the next area, make it a little bit bigger. Try to merged that shape into the surrounding areas just like that, putting a little bit just It's like it spreads out. This beautiful pink spreads up into the turquoise and blue becomes this beautiful, beautiful purple you see taking a little bit more pink. Whoops. Happy accidents always happen, but we turned it into a beautiful shape, just like that. Taking and scraping that beautiful color, adding a little bit more, just paying attention to make and changed the direction of the bullet knife, turning it on its sides, making different shapes as you go along. Okay, now, let's take a little bit of that yellow and put it into the beautiful neon pink. This will give a very, very interesting pink. We're just gonna add a little bit of variation to the color. And, as you can see, just putting it on the side of the main pink area. Just like that, you can see it stands out quite a bit. Just variation of that beautiful neon pink with a little bit of yellow. Just put it on the other areas. Maybe just a little bit. Let's see. Combine it with turquoise a little bit more, scraping it a little bit, making textures here and there, drinking it down. Of course, taking you can also take a little bit of the tour Coy's to make it come together just like that putting on left corner, bottom left corner, scraping it out, scraping it out, adding it again. Just playing with that paint while it's still wet. Okay, a little bit more. Just taking a little bit of that shave and bleeding it into the other colors just like that , making those transitions a little bit more interesting and a little bit more dynamic. As you can see, it starts to look quite quite interesting. Okay, now we should take a little bit of whites and a little bit of that neon pink and make a beautiful fluorescent pinks. The painting is still wet, as you can see, and if I move my head, you will start to see how beautiful this pink just overlays over the paint we've created and you've put on. Your painting creates this beautiful texture and this feeling that it's a little bit more than just paint. It's now a beautiful texture, variety and texture that is the secret of an abstract painting, and we have both of that, and you have both of those in your painting, variety and texture. Just play with it, make it beautiful, make it your own, just like that playing a little bit more wet. The palette, knives, just taking a little bit of color. Here they're playing. It's like a dance, adding more layers of pink to this painting. More textures and more variety will make it look very, very impressive. It will make it look like it's a very complex painting, and we both known that that is not the case. It's very easy to make this kind of painting and very interesting and relaxing as well. Now let's get a little bit more pains, a little bit more pink and and even more textures. Yes, playing with that palette knife, letting it dance, you can see it's so easy. Okay, let's add some white and added to that pink we've created previously and put it on to the middle ape and going down with some more textures, adding some small bits, some big as well. And there you go with the step as well. Wasn't that beautiful and relaxing 8. Textures on the top size of the canvas: Okay. Now, when a little bit of white. Well, maybe a little bit more white and a little bit of yellow. You should make a beautiful yellow just towards a little bit lighter than the yellow on the canvas. Of course, sitting in front of the camera and moving it moving a little bit left would be just great. Yes. Okay, now let's take a little bit more white. Let's create this beautiful, almost white yellow and just like that, making it very intense and beautiful. And get out of the frame. Yes. Okay. Putting a little bit more on the right side, being careful not to cover almost everything. We're trying to create this effect we created on the bottom of the painting just on the top as well. 95%. We should cover it, but leave out maybe edges as well as the top and maybe in the middle a little bit more. Take that yellow just like that and put it on top, creating this beautiful texture and diversity of color. Yes, the adversity of color is very important. Now move up off of the frame. Yes, just like that. And putting in a little bit more just playing with the color we already have on the canvas trying to spread it around. And then we can just take a little bit more paint and make it a little bit more white, most pure white and add it to the middle of the canvas. Drag it around, up and down, take a more and create this beautiful texture, and it's more variety is created. Just painting with this bullet knife is so great you can spread it around with the palate knife just from the left, the right and smooth out a little bit of the texture as well. Maybe make were on the left hand side corner and then move all right and move your way back to the middle, creating more fixture bling rounds. Just mixing those colors to get a war, thinking a little bit of color from here, Moving in there just like that, trying to be as abstract as possible and making beautiful textures and colors. Yes, beautiful. Now he should take just a little bit on the corner of the bullet and try to add it to the white, making this beautiful, beautiful white with a little bit of me on pink. Just making a beautiful neon being quite and we are going to add it to the top of the painting has conceived very intense and beautiful pink and mix it into the utter pains just like that, spreading it around and putting it at the top. You might say those are clouds. They look quite interesting, as you can see, when we changed que it stands out quite a bit that pink, and it connects the top of the painting with the bottom of the painting. Just finding a little bit of that pink just becomes unified. 9. More textures with turquoise and white: okay. Back to the bottom of the painting with some tour cars and some white and just mixing it together, making this beautiful turquoise a little bit whiter and mixing it all. Having a lot of paint just being generous with that beautiful turquoise and just going in for lectures, textures, textures, textures just like that, as you can see, adding a little bit more in between and trying to go over. Now we have alternated. Now the pink is on top, and you can now put the pink in some areas on the bottom because different edges are created when you put a layer on top of a layer and then go back again. As you can see, it starts to stand out. Beautiful turquoise stand stands out of more. Not on Lee, because it's whiter, but also because it's now on top and the quality of edges. It's different, and it stands out in the foreground instead of in the background. So we are trying to create this interplay of edges, this interplay of beautiful shapes, textures, colors and also now we have learned about edges and putting in a little bit more textures, playing around, just trying to cover a little bit more of the campus, as you can see, but trying to leave that blue and that pink and that edges those edges intact, some of them changing, some of them trying to make the painting more interesting, a little bit more dynamic, a little bit more vibrance and putting in a little bit more and displaying it slowly and beautifully, trying to avoid those areas that are that look quite quite wonderful and nice and making that beautiful edge just go over the pink and more just like that. So the painting is a little bit more balanced. My balance is you're trying to see how it if it goes to the right too much. If it goes to the imagine this this long stick, and then the colors on their are more towards the left side or towards the right side. So as you can see, the top pink and the bottom pink roughly are equal to the right part, where the pink is on the right side and just like that and in the middle, trying to make it quite the interesting shape as well. And on the bottom you can get the bag exactly exactly as mentioned previously, trying to make that those different shapes on the different sides. I'm cool, not too much. That's trying to go for unequal mint off color. Just like that. Going over the edge is, don't worry. This is not an exact science. This is just painting and having fun with paint, creating a beautiful abstract modern painting. 10. Lighter texture on the top side: and now for the last layer of faint. Just taking a little bit of yellow, just a tiny little bit of yellow and mixing it into the white, making a very intense white. It's very it's almost 100% white, as you can see and putting it into the middle of the yellow at the top and just dragging it around in just second, you will see everything displaying around. This is not a lot of color, just putting it, trying to add a little bit more diversity. Now you can see just adding a little bit more color, all the white. Now that you can see, we moved. Now that you can see it's moved all around. But keep in those beautiful shapes underneath. Don't go overboard with this white, and there you go with the last layer of paint. We can now go into the beautiful gold leave 11. Gold foil glue application: if you haven't applied gold leaf before, this is just some glue. It's basically white, blue deluded, with a little bit of water. We're gonna put it into a cup. Ah, just like that. Putting it into the cup, being careful not to go on the floor, being careful that it doesn't go on this or Okay, so basically, just a little bit of a line just broken down. Just like that. Knots exacts but almost zigzags. It's very hard to explain, but it's going to be very easy to strike to think of a line that it's broken up. It goes down. It goes up basically like the picture underneath and on top, just applying this beautiful blue for the beautiful girl. Leave too, be applied later, as you can see. Well, you can't see because it's basically invisible. But you can just go a long and paint best this broken line just going down and up. As you can see it, you can actually see if you look closely. You can see the brush is going down and up and down and up and then connecting it and then not connecting its just like that. You can put in and put in the glue. Try to make look on this side of the campus and see where it is wet and apply some more. Maybe put in a little bit more lower, a little bit more higher, just broken, just breaking it up. Just like that, moving in a little bit down, maybe a little bit and just finishing up this beautiful line and you can start to edit those shapes tried to think of them as textures. A swell. Just make them very abstract and very different. Try to put different shapes. Different sizes don't go overboard. It's going to love beautiful anyway. Then, if you put too much gold leave than it overpowers all the beautiful textures and colors you already have on your painting. So just a few dabs of a line on checking. If we can put in a little bit more glue just like that, try to take. Try to pretend that you know what you're doing. When it comes to abstract painting, there aren't a lot of rules, so don't worry too much about it. 12. Applying the gold foil: okay and taking that gold leaf, and this is a messy process, and if I move my hand, you are going to see what I'm doing and what you should be doing. But try to look for the glue and then apply the beautiful gold leaf. In a second, you'll see exactly what's going on. Just tried to take one. Beautiful. Yeah, exactly. Taken beautiful go leaf and apply it over. Just like that, if you bought rial gold leaf. Try to be very sparingly with this notches like me, which is very sloppy, which is very not carrying of the amount that I laid down because it's not that expensive and then taking a not a one slowly. Now that I haven't glue on my finger, it's quite easy tearing it apart and putting in just a little bit more where you can see that blue and continuing. This is a very, very, very messy and beautiful process, slowly having that finger ripping a little bit more, just like that. Look out fragile it is. But if it if the glue is quite strong enough, if the mixture is almost I don't know, 60% blue or 70% blue. It will stick stick without needing to put in a layer of varnish or anything else, but it's recommended to put a little bit of varnish on top. This will be our next step after the glue has dried and we removed excess. Um, go leaf. We're going to apply. A little bit of Warren is just on top after, uh, foil and maybe go around on the color is taking another leaf, applying it slowly, just getting it whole over the fingers. Just like that. Try to look on the side and see where the canvas It's still wet, and you can apply it with your finger habits and make it very interesting. The textures underneath will help create a textured effect on the gold leaf as well, and we are almost done almost there just like that, putting a little bit more and the line is completed. Now we can focus on the details, taking a nada leave, moving around, moving those beautiful flakes just around and focusing a little bit more on the details because they are quite important. Yes, taking it a little bit of the thief and putting it on top and a little bit more, putting it everywhere. You see a little bit of blue sticking. Get there just going for the small details where you can see that the canvas is wet with with blue, it is going down a little bit, creating those shapes going down and up. And just like that, as always, chest very, very awkward. Yes, and then this applying step is done. Wait for it to dry about 30 minutes, 45 minutes. If it's hot inside, just let it dry. So so it's completely right before you remove the excess gold leaf and let's go into the next step, which is exactly that. 13. Removing the excess gold foil: and the painting is officially done. We have a few more things to do, one of which is getting the big brush on scraping a little bit just gently and fast. All the excess gold leaf. In my case of Lord of Excess Gold Leaf, just like that, it starts to become part of the painting. It's not just dangling around. It's now part of the actual painting. Quite wonderful. Just going over. Don't abuse the brush. Don't abuse the painting with the brush. Tried to be as gentle as possible. Put it on the side, going fast or slow. Just try to remove all that it's dangling, trying to remove all and from the side. This is a little bit more. Maybe in some parts, put in a little bit of that hand if you want. It's a little bit more intense so you can get everything out. And there you go. With this step 14. Applying varnish to protect the gold foil : Okay, so if you don't have varnish, it's no problem. This varnish amusing, it's, uh, water based varnish. You can fight it in a art supply store or hardware store. It's just a water based varnish, and you can just apply it over the gold leaf where it meets the paint going over the paint as well. It makes the paint a little bit more vivid and just over the gold leaf, applying it all over there. This secures in place the gold leaf, and it makes it a little bit more strong as well as creating this beautiful effect on the colors, just making them a little bit more vibrant and adding a little bit more depth to the whole painting. This was a wonderful experience just creating and making this beautiful painting alongside you.
