Project Description

Create a 30-second song from scratch or audio samples

Recording Audio in Live

  1. Configure your system for audio recording

     You can do this by going to File > Preferences.

  2. Record a few clips in session view

    Be sure to set your levels first to avoid clipping. 

    Use Warping to tighten up any performance errors.

  3. Record a few clips in arrangement view

    Set your track and levels.

    Use the record button in the top center control bar.

  1. Use beats mode for practical and creative use

    Use the Sample console to alter Beats.

Warping Long Files (Whole Songs)

  1. Warp at least 2 songs (or long files) so they beat match

    Start by setting the 1.

    Use the loop brace to make short variations.

    Create a copy of your sample.

    Set the loop brace around a selection then Right Click > Crop Sample.

  1. Use the loop brace to isolate one-shots in a few clips

    Use the loop brace to create a sample.

    Drop the sample into a MIDI track.

    Organize core ideas for a song or performance in Session View using tracks and scenes:

    1) using a combination of one’s own MIDI and audio recordings and utilizing Live’s sample instruments

    2) using sections of Warped songs that are beat-matched, or

    3) some combination of 1 and 2.
