1. Introduction: Hello and welcome to the goals of Audacity, audio editing and recording for beginners. The idea behind making this course was to provide insights of audacity to aspiring course creators, audio editing, enthusiast, YouTubers, broadcasters, and beginner level sound engineered. By taking this course, you will be able to use our their city for audio editing, recording and improving human rights ors. In this course, you will understand about noise reduction, equalization, recording audio, improving wise or importing and exporting files, and many more. By the end of the course. You will also find some very interesting editing techniques which would exponentially improve your audio editing and recording skills. But first, let us understand how to download Audacity. 2. Downloading Audacity: Let's begin with understanding how to download our density in your system. Now, Audacity is a free and open source audio editor and the recording software, it is freely available in the market. You can directly write, download Audacity in Google or any other search engine. And you will get a link like this, which corresponds to the URL www dot Audacity team DOT ORG. Just click on this link here. And it will guide you to a new screen. Here, three versions of Audacity is listed. One is for windows and other one is for Mac, and one more is therefore Linux. My system or my computer is having Windows ten installed. So I will download the Windows version of Audacity. And this course is also revolves around the Windows version of Audacity. So as soon as I click here, I will be guided to another page in which the current version of the software is listed. The latest version as of now is 2.4.2. It's installing would be somewhere here. Just click and you'll be guided to another base. And you can see the installer is our label here. You have to just click it again and you will get the installer. You can save the installer video or you wanted, and as soon as it gets completely downloaded, you can run it and after the whole setup is completed, you will get your software. I have also a test the corresponding links. You can directly there and download the software yourself. 3. GUI of Audacity: Now that you have the software, lets understand the graphical user interface or in short, GUI of audacity. First we have here is the menu bar. Menu bar contains various manuals like file. Will, you can seal the Buzek export, import and do various other things. Then V0, the edit menu bar. From there, you can perform basic editing functions. However, the same thing can be done using the Edit toolbar here. Then here we have the view, transport track generate, and then comes the most important menu bar effect. This we are going to deal very comprehensively. Next we have the transport toolbar. In case of transport tool bar, as the mean suggests, it contains various different tools like boss, me, play, and stock, as well as record. By clicking on play, you can play the track that is opened here. By clicking on pause odd, by using the shortcut b, you can pause the playback and again by clicking, B can resume as well. You can also play using the Space bar. But as you have noticed, by clicking on this piece by the track, please, from the very beginning. Let's do it again. However, using the button on the Play and Pause button, you can play any weird N bars. And in there. Then we have the stop button. By picking here, you can stop the trek at any moment. Here, we skip to start. That is a homing button by clicking here, if you are having the trek out there and you can click on skip to start are just press the Home button and iterate, dragged back to the very beginning. And vice versa follows for skip to end button here. By clicking here, the track will be skipped to the very end. Next we'll tools, toolbar. Here. Different kinds of tools out there like selection tool, Envelope Tool, draw duly, multi-tool, Time Shift tool, and June tool. This Different kinds of tools are going to discuss later on in the course. Next week o, that recording meter toolbar. Here. You can adjust the recording level. Then via playback meter toolbar. Here you can adjust the playback level or you can basically see the playback level. You can see the level of play. Next, we'll mix it toolbar. This mixer toolbar contains recording volume and playback volume. By adjusting this to and tidies, you can adjust the output. Next VL, the Edit toolbar. In case of Edit toolbar, VL, very basic editing function like cut, copy, paste, trim, undo, and redo them via play at the speed toolbar. This is a very interesting toolbar here and you can adjust the playback speed. Let's try it once. The normal speed of the track has increased. Now, let's decrease the playback speed once. This is how my speed. This is the decrease the speed. Or to be specific, 0.5 x one x it is the normal speed again. And then we have the device toolbar. This complete toolbar is known as the device toolbar. Here, the input and output channels are listed. For recording. You have to set your my gear. Mine is a microphone having this V0, so it is a USB condenser. It can be different for different kind of systems are different kinds of Mike that you have used. And this is for the output for the sound. And this one is for recording channels. You can use mono or stereo here. Now, what is mono and what is a studio recording channel? This will be discussed in the coming lecture. Next, we have the timeline. This is what we call the timeline. Each and every number written here represents time function. If one is written here, it corresponds to one minute. One. N15 is correspond to one minute flipping seconds. However, this is not fixed. By pressing control and using the scroll of the mouse, you can adjust the con lain. However, during the process, you might lose the grip of your audio track. So for that, you can always use fit project to it. And your audio track will be fit in the timeline. Next, we have the Trek control panel. From here. You can control the track. You can basically changed the volume. You can also change the look. You can convert it into multi-view. Odd, simply a via phone, which is by default display. You can simply convert it into spectrogram of what is real fun. And spectrogram is going to be discussed in the coming lectures. I prefer simple waveform for the sake of better understanding, you should also stick with this type of display of audio track. Now, we have the time toolbar. This corresponds to the client that has labs in the audio track. If you will see the time here chins to 28 seconds. And if I come back to the beginning, it will go to doodle. And if I go to the end, it will show you the complete time of dowager trek. And last but not the least, we have the status Toolbar which is located here. The status tool bar shows the students on track right now and the track is, is stopped and hence stop this hinged on here. 4. Import,Export and Saving project: Now, let's understand how to import, export and seal files in our city. Now for that, we are going to open a new file. As you notice here. As soon as I open a new file, my old file is not gone. Are, are the density is not asking to see the project. It simply opening a new file. It is just like Microsoft Word or axle. Now here, there is no audio track. Our liberal prior to beginning, less close the previous file. And the audacity, we'll ask you to save the changes. But right now, we don't require. Now in this file, there's no audio track, our label. So let's import it. You can use the shortcut key Control Shift plus I0 to import an audio file here. Just click here. And you can import the desired audio track as soon as the TREC is our label. And after you make certain changes, it can be anything just for the sake of understanding and making simple changes here. And as soon as the changes I've done, you can always export the file. It can be done by clicking on Export As MP3 or any other format that you want. And you can export it by clicking on sale. And the exported file will have the properties of the changes that you have made. However, this doesn't six the file indoor SET. It simply exports it. In order to save your project, you have to click on SEO project here. And then you can save the project. And in there. 5. Difference between mono and stereo: You must be wondering why there are two audio tracks are liberal here. Then you have only imported a single audio track in the audacity. The reason for the same is that one dreg corresponds to left speaker and another tread corresponds to the right speaker. Now in order to understand it more clearly, just click besides the name of your track. Not just split this stereo track because I still you if such kind of track in which both the channels are our labeled the left and the right channel. And a mono track is such that it has only one are single-channel. Now just split the studio track here. Now this stereo track has been splited into left and right channels. Let's delete the bottom one and play the file. As you have noticed, only the right is bigger, is having a sound. Just undo. The team that v has done are just press Control Z. Now this time, let's delete the ABL one. And let's play the file. And hence, only the left speaker is having a sound. And this is what the concept of mono is. The left is because having a sound and the right is bigger is also having that sound. And altogether they contribute to make a studio sound. 6. Cut copy paste: In this unit, we will understand about certain basic editing functions of an ICT. Let's begin with the cut copy and paste functions. This is a very basic editing function. You have to first select any particular section of your track. And you need to remember that the selection tool of the tools toolbar is selected for doing so. Whenever we select something in Audacity, the color gets genes. Otherwise, the colour remains gree. This Greek coloration changes to white event we are selecting any portion of the track. Now to use good, you can use the shortcut as control plus x. You can simply click here. Now as you can see, the selected section has been cut off from the track and then you can place it anywhere in-between. The trek. Pasting can be done using the shortcut key control v. However, you can also copy a particular section of the track, Bay Street in another part of the track. You can also do like this. Let's do it again. If you have copied any particular section of the track and you want to paste it as a new track, you just have to click in the gray area here and just paste it here by control V. And this we generate a new track altogether. And then you can mix these two different stereo tracks together. Mixing up the tracks will be discussed in the advanced editing section. 7. Trim and silence: Now, let's understand about certain other basic editing function of audacity. In this lecture, we will discuss about trimming and silencing audio. Let's start with trimming. First, we have to select a certain portion of the track. And as soon as you click on it, trim button, odd, use the shortcut key, control plus t. You'll see that the selected portion remains and all the other portion gets trimmed out. Trimming button basically trims the audio portion which is outside the selection. Let's do it once again. Let's select a very natural idea of the audio track and trim it. As you can see, only a selected portion remains. Next is a silencing the audio. This is a very handy tool. Lets say this particular section of the audio track. You want to silence this particular section. You don't want anything in between here. You will just click on salads or do selection or use the shortcut key Control L. It will completely silence this particular section of the audio track. And it is clearly visible in the video phone. Unless speed the trek from here. As you can see, it is completely silenced for this particular section. And as soon as the slider reaches here, the paint resumes. 8. Tools toolbar: Now, let's understand about certain tools of the tools toolbar. Here, the very first tool is the selection tool. You can start the selection tool using shortcut key F1 in Windows. And you must be very much familiar with this tool because we have been using this tool since the very beginning of the goals. Only wanting remains here. When we select a particular portion using left click of the mouse, you see the color of the selection changes. It becomes lighter as compared to the other portions of the waveform. Here. When you touch both the ends, the cursor, the cursor icon under selection tool changes to a hand icon. Now, as soon as the hand icon appears and you can left-click and drag it. To reshape the selection. You can do it from either end. Now to get out of the selection tool, you can either click on this gray area, our annual else. Next we have the Envelope Tool. The shortcut for the scene is F2. Now, this Envelope Tool gradually reduces or increases, the amplitude of the waveform are the amplitude of the audio track of what is this amplitude. Prior to understanding what is this amplitude, basically, you need to understand how unsound veal behaves, how a sound we'll look, this is how a Sunday we'll look at some veal is basically a longitudinal view. The center area here, the center line here is what we call a equilibrium. If you Jew in using zoom tool of the tools toolbar, you can clearly see this equilibrium line. You can then again use the feed project to visit our control F to adjust the audio track back to the timeline. Now, amplitude is the maximum deviation from the equilibrium, from either side of the equilibrium. Now, if you want to look in this particular waveform here to again invoke the zoom tool are F4. Let's zoom it properly inside. Now you can see a perfect sine wave here. Let's adjust. Now here you can see this is what we call a crest, and this is true. And the deviation from the equilibrium is what we call a amplitude. Now this Envelope Tool allows us to gradually change the amplitude of the soundtrack. Editing. The amplitude. Using animal of editing lets you change the volume of a trek gradually or time. Let's invoke the Envelope Tool and see what happens. So basically, whenever I click with the Envelope Tool open, I'm basically creating control points. These points are called control points. You can drag these points or you can create even new points and in via your font. And this is gradually shaping the audio track. It's gradually reducing our increasing the amplitude of the audio track. Now let's undo all the changes and you just split the track. Now let's again try with doing some editing using Envelope Tool. And let's send it again. And this one, it could be the lowest, right here. And then again gradually increasing. So this is water Envelope Tool is less undo all the changes again by Control Z. Next we have the drought tool, the shortcut for drawing tool, It's F3. Now, to use this tool, we need to zoom Very much further inside the track. As soon as you can see these control points. And then using the drawing tool, you can individually select these points and change them accordingly. And then one important tool we forgot, it was the Time Shift tool. Now, let's say we got a certain portion and base to it as a new track. And I want this to be at the end or even at the center of the actual audio track. I will use the Time Shift tool, select this portion and drag it. And in here, I want, this is a very powerful tool. Then you are editing multiple tracks. And last but not the least, we have multi-tool. Multi-tool. It's like a combination of all these tools. When I invoke this, all the tools are, I'll label right here. You can select any portion. You can use the analytic tool. 9. Duplicate: In order to understand that Duplicate command of our diversity, let, let's first revise the copy command itself. For the using copy command, we use to select a reason. Then we can just click this button, odd. You began use shortcut Control plus c. After debt, we can Bay Street and in there, in the track itself are by clicking outside in this gray area and boosting it here, we can create a new track, having what we hope copied earlier. However, the Duplicate command works quite differently. First we have to select a particular reason of the audio track. And then as soon as we click on the duplicate, are simply use the shortcut Control plus D. It will automatically generate a new audio track having what we have selected. So basically a duplicate Kemal duplicates the selection in the original track and creates a new track. Now, if we select the whole thing and for that, you can use this particular button of selecting the whole track. You can also use Control a to select the whole track. And then they can duplicate the whole thing. And we can do it countless number of times. 10. Remove special: The next editing function of our density is what we call the remove, especially. Now here, cream and silence also comes, but we are already discussed about trimming and silencing your check. Here. We have two very special kind of editing function. One is split cut and other one is split delete. Now let's understand what these two are. For that using the selection tool, let's select a particular ID of the Czech. Now, use the split got here. It goes. The audio via the selection has been made. And then we can paste it anywhere. We can create a new track. Are we can paste it in the existing check. Now you must be wondering, the same thing can be done using simple good and simple paste. So what is this? Split cut? Rest assured spirit good is quite different than the odd committee got to function. The spit good is not only cutting the section, but it is also splitting the audio track into two. This you can understand by using time flip tool. Let's invoke the time chip tool. And as you can see, you can drag these two tracks. Something similar is done. Ford split, delete as well. But here you cannot paste it anywhere else. You can simply delete the section of the file. And you can arrange the remaining files as two different splitted files. 11. Clip boundaries: The next editing function is clear boundaries. Here, we can use three different kinds of commodities, split, split, and join. In the last lecture we understood about is remove spatial Vr V, split gut and split deleted Dodger check. Here something similar is happening. However, the functionality changes. For using split. The split function. We need to select any 1 in the audio track. And as soon as we click on the split, the simplest splits the audio track into two different tracks. Now split nu is quite different for Spit knew we had to make a selection in the audio track. And as soon as we click on Split noon and new track with the selection that we made in the original drag, a new drag is formed. This is quite similar to split cut. Next we hail. Join. Now for Jining, two or three odd, even, numerous tracks. We need to first bring them close together. Let's delete this one. We don't need it. Now here will make the complete selection so we can press control a or just press here. And then by clicking on join. Everything has been giant as a singular track. 12. Labels: Liberals are very essential and useful tool in audacity. With the help of labels, we can pinpoint what is going on in the audio track. Now for adding a label to a track, we need to initially make a selection. So for this particular exercise, I have came up with a new audio track. Let's listen to it. So as you have noticed in the very beginning days of vocal sound, which is followed by VDD bears. So let's select the vocal Ada. Then go to Add Label at selection. Now as you noticed, the selected area is also highlighted in the label track. You can also adjust rate here. Here you can write vocal intro. And after dead, we had dbs. So we can select any area and then we can add labeled at that particular selection. You can also use the shortcut for the same, that is control plus b. And here you can write this. And similarly, you can add any number of liberals as per your convenience. 13. Exporting files: Then you have made certain changes to your audio track. You need to save it as an mp3 or any other format that you want. By default, whatsoever file you are importing into, are they city? It is acting as a veal file. So as soon as certain changes had been made in the file, you need to sear it. By exporting it. You became familiar with importing audio files. Now, we need to understand how to export audio file. Here you have lots of options. You can export it as MP3 as a WAV file itself as OGG. Or you can simply click here, export audio. And here, you can change the name of the file. Let's write it. Test. And you can see with as many supported files, the most popular one would be the MP3 file. However, you must also look into other formats and how they can be beneficial for you. My personal favorite is FLAC files. It's a lossless audio file. And it is very much beneficial if you are burning a CD. Because d pics VD less storage as compared to MP3 files. But the quality is not lost. So as soon as we select any particular output format and a destination for the same, we can click on seal. However, you must also look at the format options here. Like the bit rate, the quality, the variable speed, and the channel mode. Here. The by default qualities, the standard one. A medium quality, is also considered good. You can also export as the extreme part in thin quality of 3-20 KB peers. Who, but it would be highly recommended that you must go for the standard version. Now here, you can also export the file as mono file by clicking here. Now, as soon as I click on seal, the file gets exported with the changes that V Hamid. Now, you must also add metadata to your file in order to make your audio track distinguishable. Here you can name the artist. Let's write anything here. You can name the title of the track. You can write the album title. You can write the track number. You can write the year in which you have made the trek. You can write any year. And the Jana, let's write it. Hip hop. And the software that you are used, it's obviously are the CG. You can set this as default for your next projects. You can also edit generous here. And you can click on okay. 14. At zero crossings: In this new unit, in this new section, we are going to understand about certain advanced editing function of audacity. The very first function is the ad GTL crossings. You can invoke this particular function by clicking here are just by pressing jet in the keyboard. This particular function is better understood. If I show it with the example. Actually at G20 crossing at just the selected region very slightly so that a boundary is add a silent point. Now, if I'm selecting a particular region and I'm clicking on zed, your eyes will not be able to notice any difference, but there is certainly a difference. And for that, we have to join in. Now, as soon as we can see the veal farm, clearly, let's select a region. Here. As you can see, at both ends of the selected region, the amplitude is present. It is not in the equilibrium, that means it is not a silent point. Now, when I press on Zed, as you can notice here, both the ends are actually getting into the silent point. This particular tool or this particular function comes very handy when you're editing something and you are having doubt. If you're editing might effect the audio altogether. 15. Background Music: The most brilliant function of cities that we can add background music to our audio. To add background music, you must have a voice or a narration. Something. It can be anything. But here, just for this course, I made up a story, a story called careless JSON. This is stored is attached. With the attachment. In this particular lecture, you can listen to the story and you can find out the difference between simple narration or simple wise or, and a voice or with background music. Now let's listen the narration. There was a man named Jason. He was severely Gil is kind of Boson. The story seems boring at first because there is no background music. So we are going to add background music to this particular S story. Now for that, you have to click on file and import audio. Do Not Open simply, otherwise, it will open a new file. Let's do it once. And when you click on open until file will be opened, a new audacity file in that. So always, whenever you were opening for the second time, always import an audio file. You can also use those shortcut key, control ship plus psi. Now here, I'm going to add background sound for this narration. As you can see here. The background sound are the background music that I want is added to the project as a new track. Now here, my narration, It's smaller in size, are basically smaller inland as compared to the background music. So what I will do, I will cut out the unwanted portion. Here when I'm moving my cursor, moving my selection tool, a yellow color line appears. That means this is the intersection point for both the tracks. Just left-click here and select the remaining portion. And simply press delete. Now that my generation and the background music are of the same length, I can listen to it. As you can see, the background music right now is quite loud and my generation is getting suppressed by IIT. And hence, we have to reduce the sound coming from the background noise. And for that, you can use this particular slider. Here. You can gain the decibels are in, increase the background sound, or you can reduce by sliding in the left. Let's reduce it by ten decibels. Now let's listen to the track. There was a man. Kill is still, there is something off with the combination. And tried to experiment as much as you want until you get the desired outcome you want. For me, for this particular narration that I'm having, 20 decibels minus 20 decibels works good for me. Let's listen it again. There was a man named Jason. He was severely Gil is kind of person. And here it is. Your background music is also added with the narration. You can download attachments in which one is having simple narration of a story called careless JSON. And another one is with the background music. And you just tried to compare Port, which is going to be sound more appealing. 16. Multiple track editing: The next big thing in advanced editing is the multi-track editing. In case or multi-track editing, you have to use multiple audio tracks. For example, one track would be your voice or of the narration, like the story that we have used in the previous lectures of careless JSON. And then you have to provide a background music along with certain sound effects in between. In order to create a multiple track, you need to keep track of what is going on with the oldest known narration. And for that, labels comes into play. This whole multiple tracks. I have made it prior to making this lecture. Just in order to make you understand what is going on. We're going to do a step-by-step illustration in a new file. But first, let's understand what we are going to do in order to understand why we have used labels here. Let's first mood all the other audio tracks in these multiple track. For muting any audio, you have to just click below here. Now, as you can see, we are left with only the narration and the labels. This labels are already adjusted in order to make things quite smooth. But prior to begin with this multiple Trek editing, I would suggest through, I would highly recommend you to go through the complete negation yourself. And you will understand what is required, which sound effect is required? Where Mao, let's play it from here. He was starting his god. But even so in the narration, It is said that he was the gear left. Json was starting his car. So I can write in this label us, God is start. And this will keep me on track so that I would understand which kind of sound effect I have to add afterwards. Let's go to here. Damage the windshield glass due to dry wiping. So the corresponding label I can write us, vipers are car vipers. So I would add a sound effect which would approximately related with wiping off the windshield of a car. Let's go here. Very good, Leslie. So the JSON here was driving very carelessly in address. So I can add traffic sound effect here. Let's go here. Beaten. He lost control of his God. As good out. He collided with a barricade. So JSON here lost control of his car and skewed out. So I can add a sound of skidding out of car. And last via fortunately, emergency services very nearby. So for this particular section, we have to add a sound effect corresponding to some emergency services like EM lens. So by using all these labels, Vee can pinpoint what is going on with the narration, what is going on with the story. And we can add the corresponding sound effects. Now, let's start the multiple track editing a fresh. First, we have to import the mean narration audio. That would be the kill is juice and story. And then we have to add certain labels. We're going to do a quick revision of how to add labels. We can add labels at the selection or at the very beginning. Also. We can add labels at the selection. And this is how labels are being added. And we can adjust them also. And eventually we can right toward them. Or density provides us with a very handy tool. That is, if we are making the editing in one file, we can also do the same Mike copying from one file and listing it here. So we can delete this one. And we have all the labels. Debt was in the original file. And this is the file in which I am telling you how to make the multiple editing. As we have already discussed, and we know all these labels, the corresponding sound effects should be provided here. So for that, let's first import the sound effect for starting a car. That would be this one. Let's listen to this sound by muting the narration. So this would what a garbled sound when studying. So VBD cutout the portion which corresponds, which is most suitable for this particular section of the navigation via entre de did here. So what we will do, we can copy and paste from here to here. Let's delete this one and copy from here to here. So here, the time ship tool will come in handy. And our sound effect for this particular section, x, it was starting his guy, but he forgot to field WHO voter. We can do the same for other sound effects as well. So what we are going to do, we are going to copy all from here to here. Let's tell it this one. And all the sound effects are intact. Now here you see all the waveforms are diverging and conversing in both the eggs. First, it is diverging and then disclosing. This is what we call the fade in and fade out effect. This will be discussed in the coming lectures or in the next section. As soon as we have added all the sound effects. Now, we can add the background music. And like I told before, just cut out the portion that is not required are, which is at the intersection of the narration and the background music. Now here we will apply the fade in and fade out effect. This will be briefly discussed. You can listen to the whole track which is provided in the attachment. Now for the background music with my narration, with my voice, minus 20 decibel worked. But it is highly recommended that when you are using some effects, you must lower it down to y1 for more decibels. So in this case, it will be minus 24 decibel. So what we have done here is that we have started fresh and create data, complete multiple track. Let's listen it from the very beginning. There was a man named JSON. He was severely careless, kind of person. 1d. He was starting this guy, but he forgot to feel delving chilled water and the wipers. Somewhat damaged, doubling sheet glass. Due to drive wiping. A skill less evils. He'd be ignored. Malls crash in the windshield and drive in the IV. Suddenly a drug appeared in front of him. And the headlights of drug dazzle beam. By deflecting abruptly due to the scratch on the windshield. He lost control of his car and ski down. The colliding. Fortunately, emergency services available nearby and the rush to GWAS that scene. Jason, We've got the fracture blank, but he learned a good lesson. So this was your multiple Trek editing. What you listen here might sound differently than what is in the attachment. Because what you are listen here is coming from the speakers of my system. And what is in that attachment is the actual file. 17. Noise reduction: Noise reduction can reduce constant background sound, like a sound coming from a fan or just ambient noise. However, it is not suitable for individual clicks. Are irregular noise such as art. Pupil districts. Use noise reduction. You need a reason in the waveform that contains only the noise you want to reduce. So let us see in this particular file, when you look closely, you will find certain reasons which are having noise. The waveform are basically the equilibrium of the veal farm. Will help. Small thickness. Just like here. When you zoom it, you can make a selection. And then you have to go to Effect, followed by noise reduction. And first, you have to select the noise profile, which is the selection you have made in the waveform first year to get the noise profile. And again, you have to select the whole waveform. You can either do it by pressing control a, R just by selecting here. Now, as soon as you have selected, the hole will form. You can again go back to Effect and noise reduction. It is recommended that you use the standard that has been said by audacity outright, VDD as different parameters like changing the noise reduction sensitivity and through Kinsey smoothening. Who, but this is the very best you can get out of our ACT. Just click on OK and see how the veal farm changes. As you can see, the noise has been completely rectified. 18. Reverb and Echo: The next effect is reverb adds a reverberation, which is rapid modified reputation, which is blended with those null sound. This gives an impression of ambiance. In order to invoke the reverb effect. First, we have to select a portion in which we need the reverb effect. Let's play it here. Let's begin with. So we are selecting this particular portion in order to see how the level effect works. Whenever we click reverb effect, this particular pellet opens. Here, different parameters are listed. You can play with them and you can see the changes by clicking here. Let's begin. Let's listen it once again. Let's begin. As you can see, it is giving out the original sound with an impression of a ambience. Here, when you click on the Manage, You can see sudden Factory Presets. Light vocal one, we'll call too, bathrooms, small room, and many more. And accordingly, this parameter changes whenever I select the factory presets here, let's select it for the large room. And as you can see, the pedometer is getting changed. Now let's click on preview. Let's begin. So the reverberation effect is showing how a voice or the sound v come in a large room. Similarly, we can change it to a small dark room. And accordingly the parameters like the room size, that the abrasion percentage damping, the web gain and the dry gain, everything is getting changed. Let's begin. So this one was for a small dark room. And accordingly, different parameters corresponds to different Factory Presets. However, you can also change it manually here. And you can see how it's going to be sound. Let's begin. So as per, as your requirement, you can change all these parameters. You have to try it for yourself in order to see the best possible outcome. The next effect is the echo effect. And this effect repeats the selected audio again and again. Normally software every time. The delay time between each repeat is fixed with no pause in between each repeat. Now here again, the same selection has been made. So when I click on equal, but delete binds us. Let it be one here. And let's preview. Let's begin. Now let's change the delay time and see how the ego is sounding. Let's begin. As you can see, when we are increasing the delay time, the echo is not at all audible. Let's begin lesson. Now let's try to change the effector. Let's lessen it. Let's begin. Now let's increase it. Let's begin lesson. Let's decreases even further. Let's begin. So eventually, by playing with these two parameters, you can add echo to your sound. 19. Amplify: The next effect is the Amplify Effect of audacity. Amplify is used to change volume of the selected audio track. You can select a particular portion of the audio track and amplify it. Or you can select the whole track altogether. Now let's select a particular portion in order to understand how MPP vacation works. When I click here, you can see a pellet opens. Here. The amplification can be changed by using the slider. You can reduce the amplification or you can increase it also. But as soon as I slide this slider to the right, up to certain extent, everything looks fine. But after a particular threshold is crossed, both the preview and the OK button becomes invisible. Which means that you cannot amplify this particular file up to r after that particular threshold. And when you are satisfied with the amplification that you've learnt, if you know the exact decibels or the DB, you can click on Preview. Now, let's prove it after reducing the amplification. So this is how the amplification works. Let's reduce the amplification even further and less pred track afterwards. As you can see, the veal farm is also getting changed. And I played family again. And let's see. So this is how the effect of order city walls. 20. Compressor: The compressor effect reduces the dynamic range of the audio. Which means the difference between the loudest and the softest part in an audio recording. One of the main purpose of reducing dynamic range is to balmy the audio, to amplify further. Therefore, the compressor amplifies the audio by default as much as possible after compression. Generally, the compression effect is used or the whole trek. Or you can also use for a particular selection. First, we have to select the whole track by using Control E or by clicking here. And then by clicking on effect, followed by compressor here. And you can see a graph is being made. This is basically compressing the audio file. That difference between the loudest and the soft desk portion of the audio track is smoothening. And it is denoted by this particular curve. Here, I have made some changes in the parameter, and this works the best for me. You can also play with these parameters to see the best effect that you can get. For me, that threshold is minus 12 decibels, noise floor is minus 40. The ratio is five raised to one. At that plane is fine to second and release time is 1 second. Now let's preview the audio. Now. Let's hear the original audio. Again. Let's listen it. You have to listen the difference. Or again, in order to understand what is happening. 21. Limiter: Next we have the limiting effect are what we call a limiter. The limiting effect is a special type of dynamic compression that response really rapidly to peak in the veal farm. In order to apply the limiter effect. First we have to select the whole waveform. This is the general procedure for applying a limiter. You can always select a particular portion and applied this effect. But it is recommended that you apply it to the whole waveform. Now, as soon as the whole waveform is selected, click on effect, followed by limiter. Now, as you can see, certain parameters are already fitted here. Follow these parameters. Here, the limit is set as a hard limit. The input gain for the left speaker is four decibel. The input gain for the right channel on the right is bigger, is generally the limit to db. That means up to which we are limiting this particular track is minus three decibels. And we are holding for two milliseconds. Always confirm that apply. Make-up gain is always set to know. This is the best possible settings I got out of limited. You can always change this pedometers and click on preview to listen. Now as you can see, this is what the limiter effect does. 22. Fade in and fade out: Next we have two very important effects of audacity. Fade in and fade out. These basic fields. Apply a fading effect to the selected audio, such that the amplitude of the selection goes from absolute silence to the original amplitude in case of feed in. And from the original amplitude to absolute silence in case of feed out. The fade in and fade out, options are available under effect. Let's try them one-by-one. The fading is often applied order short audio selection, generally lesser than 1 second. But for the sake of understanding, we are going to apply it or other large integration. Let's select a particular area and apply fading and just watch how the veal farm, it's changing. So in fading, the amplitude of the selection or the selected area is going from the absolute silence to the original amplitude. But prior to that, first listen the original audio. This was the ozone audio. Now let's listen it with feeding effect. So absolute silence to the original amplitude. That was the idea behind fade in or fade out is often applied to a longer selection, then a fading. Typically the selection is up to ten seconds. So let's select cement selection here. And let's play this selection. So this was the original track. Now let's apply the fade out and let's play that selection. So this was, you will fade in and fade out effect of our city. 23. Change pitch speed tempo: The next effect is the pitch speed and tempo. First, we will start with the pitch. Pitch is a perceptual property of sound. It is actually the quality of sound which is regarded as higher or lower. Let's understand pitch with an example. If I don't have a pH of 400 hertz, it means that the node repeats itself 400 times per second. Human ear can listen between the range of 20 hertz to 20 thousand hertz. And most of the music Knowles lies between 50 hertz, 2 thousand hertz. Now, in order to see how this changing pitch effect works in Audacity, first, we have to sell it a particular portion in the audio track. Now let's listen to this portion. This is actually one of my recordings. Let's begin with understanding how to download our density in your system. Now let's change the pitch and see what happens. Here. Palette opens in which a slider is given. Then v decrease the slider are sliding to the left and preview it. Let's begin with understanding how to download them. Let's slide it even further to the left. Let's begin with understanding how. So. As you can see, by sliding the slider to the left, the pitch is decreasing, and in turn, the voice is coming very heavy. Now let's do it. In another way. Let's slide the slider to the right and hit on prebuttal. So as you can see, the voice has become quite funny. And VD lighter. So sliding the slider to the left, mix the voice heavier. And sliding it to the right makes it lighter like a chipmunk. Ok. Next we have changing speed. Changing the speed will alter the pitch of the audio track as well. Let's try it once. With the same selection. When we move the slider to the right and hidden to feel how to download on your system. So the pitch is also getting changed. Now let's slide the slider to the left and hit on trivial. Let's begin. You need to understand here. Here you are only changing the speed. And correspondingly, it is affecting both the tempo and the pitch. But the actual effect, if you want to just change the pitch, turn only change the speed. You held two separately change the pitch. And last but not the least, we have change of tempo. Now the speed and tempo are completely different entities. Temple simply takes the same piece of music and squeezes it into shorter timeframe without affecting the pitch at all. Now let's apply change tempo effect in this particular selection. Let's move the slider to the right and preview. Let's begin by understanding how has it. So as you have noticed, the pitch has not been affected. Now let's slide the slider to the left and feel. Let's begin with understanding how to let slide it even more left. Let's begin. 24. Equalization: The next effect is the equalization. The equalization effect of Audacity has been replaced by filter CO and graphic EQ earlier, the altogether known as equalization. And prior to invoke the filter go, we have to first select the whole track. And when we click on the filter girl, this particular window opens or this particular palette opens. Here do you have to click on Manage followed by Factory Presets? There are different factory preset present. Let's try out treble boost and heat on preview. Let's try another one. This time. There's boost. Let's try another one. This strain AM radio. So a radio-like sound is coming. So this is voter equalization in Audacity means you can change the Factory Presets and find out what works the best for your audio. My personal favorite is low rule of four speech for my voice, ores. 25. Normalization: Next we have normalize effect of Audacity, which is used to set the peak amplitude of a single track. Generally, normalization is applied or the whole waveform or the complete audio track. As soon as you have selected the complete audio track, go to Effect. Then normalize. Always dig this checkbox which says removed DC upset and always put the normalized peak amplitude two minus1 decibels, and do not change these options for this particular effects. 26. High and low pass filter: Now, for the next effect of art ICT daddy's, the high-pass filter and the low pass filter. We are again going to look into the careless Jason's 2-D. Let's hear it. Once. There was a man named Jason, he was very careless kind of person. You must have got familiar with this story. You must have heard it once in the previous unit. Now, let's apply the high pass filter to this is truly, let's select the whole waveform and click on high pass filter. The high-pass filter reduces low-frequency noise like a hum. It is highly recommended that you must not alter these two parameters. You can always see the difference, but this is the standard parameters for frequency and the role of, let's preview of it. There was a man named Jason. He was severely. So this high-pass filter has reduced all the low-frequency noises present in the audio. Let's try the low pass filter. The low pass filter reduces high frequency noises like a visceral. In my case, my voice ors contains lots of high frequency noises because my voice is like dead, so I often use this filter. Let's prove it. There was a man named Jason. And hence, using the low pass filter, you can reduce high-frequency noise. 27. Recording a audio: Recording audio in Audacity is a very simple task. You have to just click. Here, are just press, are in the keyboard. And us recording starts. If I'm not seeing anything, the equilibrium will be maintained. If there is no ambient voice. Like here, the equilibrium is getting maintained. And as soon as I'm talking, the view firm is responding with the tone of my voice. If you feel like stopping in between, are, have a pause to take a breathe. Just click here, R plus B in the keyboard. And the recording will stop right away and resume the recording again. You can press B or click here. And you recording will be resumed. Now, if you have finished with the recording, you can pause n, stop. You can also skip to the Start. Now, if you want to record a further, you can again click on R. But as you can see here, the recordings, the earlier recording that you are made and the new recording, they are splitted. They are two different tracks, so you can always combine them together afterwards. 28. 5 steps for improving voiceovers: I have seen many beautiful struggling to edit their voice or words. They want their voice ors to sound professional and understandable. But anyone with the understanding of audio editing, many struggles a lot to find a perfect outcome for their voice ors. So here in this lecture, I present to you a five step formula to solve all your voice or issues. This five-step formula consists of some of the effects that you have learned earlier in the course. The first step is the noise reduction, followed by compressor. And then we have a limiter. The fourth step is the filter curl or the equalization. And the fifth and the last step is the normalization. By following these step, followed one of your voice or you will find wonderful results. So the first step being noise reduction. First, we have to select a noise profile. As you can see here, this white noise, because the equilibrium is having some thickness, it's not a straight line. So let's select this particular area and apply noise reduction. As you have noticed, the noise has been considerably reduced. But the audio are, the waveform has been compressed. That means the volume got somewhat down. And as we know, that compressor reduces the dynamic range of the audio. Which was again the difference between the loudest and a soft this part. But in the process of reducing dynamic range, permits the audio to amplify even further. And hence, compressor amplifies the audio by default as much as possible after compression. So we are going to compress the file. Now. All the settings that we are having, all the parameters that we are having here have been already discussed in the effects unit. Let's click on, okay, then. The next step is applying limiter to the whole audio waveform. Here we are taking hard limit and all these parameters that we have already discussed. This limited is reducing the input level very gently, but it also preventing the beak of strangled signal. The limiting effect is a special type of dynamic compression that response very rapidly to peaks in the waveform. That means whatever we have done till now, that means noise reduction and compression. After that, if there are some peaks signals, this limiter will limit that particular peak signal. Let's click on OK. And then we will come our fourth step. That is the filter Co, which is the equalization in audacity. In Audacity folder curve and graphic EQ are altogether known as equalization. We are going to apply a filter CO. For now. This particular effect is quite like a trial and error basis for my voice. I prefer low rule of for speech. You have to explore for yourself which type of factory preset is working for you. You have to listen over and over again by clicking on the preview so that you can get an idea that VJ factory preset is working best for you. For me, it is glue rule of for speech. Let's apply it. And finally, VL normalization, which is used to set the peak amplitude of a single track. We will not alter any parameters here. And here it is. Your voice or has been considerably improved and improvised. For now. Just listen to the old file in which we have not applied the five-step formula. Recording audio in Audacity is a very simple task. You have to just click. Here, are just press on the keyboard. Now, listen to the exported file in which we have applied the five-step formula. Recording audio in Audacity is a very simple task. You have to just click. Here, are just press, are in the keyboard. As you can see, there is a considerable difference between them. And this is the magic of this five-step formula. So with this magnificent stands for mission of your voice. Or I conclude this course. I hope the insights that you have caught work helpful and you will apply the sin for your own audio editing. Keep learning, be curious all the very best.
