An illustrator based in ST I used to paint with acrylics back in high school where I love to paint still left on campus today I use acrylics for my illustrations. In this class, we will talk about acrylics, brushes. We will practice breast control. Learn to grace what colors you volume to shames, creating radiance also bedroom radiance How to make details with the Cree legs. And finally we will create two botanical illustrations where we will apply all of these techniques. You can also follow me on Instagram at cover Sanders where you could be able to see my latest updates. So are you ready to create some beautiful village illustrations just during the class on Let's get started. 2. SUPPLIES: to start with. This ones are good. I like them to use them for sketching or trying out some new paintings. This is the Fabbiano mixed media paper, and this is the Council on watercolor paper. They work just fine. Like a critics, if you want something more professional, I also love this artist Baker, and this one is my favorite, the Hannibal the Harmony paper, which can be used for many different media. And it's really smart for this cause. I will be used for the student. Great pains. You will be OK with a wire black jello blue indirect we call it discovers you can mix every cover. I have synthetic dresses of different sciences. All of them are really small because my illustrations half many Dido's and I really want to get those details up. So you are very big, just a range of them. Now what about the bullets? Will you can use a plastic bullet, but they're really hard to bring some of the acrylic paint attach is to the plastic, so I don't like the look much. You can use the ceramic blade from your kitchen. They worked just fine. You can use some disposable paper bullets there. Okay, As you can see, I use them to sometimes. But my favorite is a glass pellet. Make sure you are taxing on white. If your table is not white and foot a white paper underneath it and you'll be OK and to clean the glass pellet, you can just scrape it up. With this, we will be using some water, some paper towels. I also recommend some threshold. Clean your brushes after you're done with them, and this morning works really good. Other tools we will be using or some. It's fair paper if you don't want to mess up your table. An eraser happened. So some tape and a palette knife to mix up your colors if you want, although you will see that I do it a lot with my brush and it's OK. So now that we're ready to start, let's talk a little bit more about grasses. 3. BRUSHES: So let's talk a little bit about your brushes. Make sure they are synthetic because the natural wants won't hold their teeth and the reso presses are too strong. Are these medium now? How ditches between long handle or short handle dresses? Well, as you can see, I own long handled, too, but they are meant to be paint standing up with a canvas so you can get that gesture and get more painterly, although if you hold them closer, you can still control them pretty good. But you can see the versus that I use are mainly short handled. Yes, I like to get into the details and have more control off the painting I'm doing in my illustrations. So what about the shape of the breath? I recommend two shapes the flat breast and their own brush, and let's see how they behave. So that's grab a little bit of paint. So with a flat brush, you're very good to get some coverage and create some backgrounds or feeling a space. You can also, uh, feeder lines with them. You're really precise, and you can use them to create some shapes and then feel them in, so it is a very fun brust to use. As you can see, you can do, oh, things get into the vico or cover up background. Now let's take a look at the wrong brush with their own breast, you can have a more expressive gesture. They're also good to create invisible marks. You are going for a more painterly book. You can use the deep to create very, very fine lines, and they are really good to get into. The details are you can create beautiful lines that go from very seen to spreading up the line, so slack, bright brush and round brush is what you are looking for. So it is really important to clean your brushes when you are painting and using multiple brushes. Different wants to introduce him at the moment in the water here. When you are done with them, you can still the brush in the water. Rinse it, wipe it in the paper towel, and finally you will wash it with some. So I like to use this one. But any soap will do, and once your process clean done, leave that leave them flat on the table. Oh, are brought him down in a jar or container. In that way, your brushes will be kept safely and they will last longer 4. FLAT COLOR: way, we're going to create a flat collar shape where there are no visible strokes. So rep some color. Make sure by by the way, that you always close your tubes because acrylics dry really fast on your to pain will be ruined if it is in close properly. The aim here is to have a flat color with no visible breast strokes. I mean it. You will find out that we have some colors. You will need to create two layers or three layers to achieve this effect. And with others like this yellow one like your will do just fine. You can also mix your colors to create some new ones and just have fun on experiment. Now, with these orange, you can see that I'm living some marks, so go back and with it out until you have a flat culture. Also, make sure you are turning your breast when you're painting, so you useful. The painting has now try to create different geometric shapes with different flat colors. I have uploaded ah, print out to the class resources fuller. You can trace it to your paper on draw your own shapes. This will make you practice both flat color and brush control because you need to get into the edges, those sharp edges and just have fun with it and start mixing your colors. It's a really good exercise, and I will love to see your progress in the gallery. 5. GRADIENT: VOLUME: Now that you have practiced your flat shapes, let's see how we can give them some volume. So let's try and turn the circle into a sphere. How are we going to do this by using some Grady int? So we will made a collar in my case. Magenta and 1/2 years, some white and also some black to darken up the color. You can draw the circle with a pencil before had if you 12 or even with a compass, or you can trace it from the print out my light source right away. I'm thinking it comes from here. Another way to make a darker tone would have been, too. Makes my I'm agenda with complimentary color in the case off the magenta, this color would have been a green if you don't know much about Qatar mixing and complementary colors, or how to create your colors than I recommend for you to yet color real just like this one were, for example, my Joe. It's the complementary color off a violet violet, and you can use it to find out. Like all the different color theory, Thanks are You can also watch some off the skin shirt classes here on color and a really, really good you, you know. So as you can see, I'm almost done and we have created a sphere. If you don't like the painterly blue this fear just clean your breath. Make sure it is a little bit dumb and use it to small of brushstrokes, The leaving bit. This way you will get a smoother fact. Now try this with your shapes from the circle into last year, you can turn the triangle into a cone and you can turn the square into 6. GRADIENT: BACKGROUND: create a smooth back from is sometimes difficult to achieve. So I will show you my technique. Imagine this is or a campus and just grab a color and make sure you have the color and some white in your bullet. And what we're going to do is to get some color into her brush and start painting. You want to go all the way across because if you lived your brush, you will. If marks Once you have these first part of the color without cleaning your brush, grab a little bit of white leave again. We need some water here because it's stupid, right? And start painting. Make sure you are turning your brush so you use both sides and you use all the amount of pain. Okay, so grab more. Gil, can you go down until you blend? So I think I'm going to go farther down. This here. I don't have much for Grady int. So remember, grab some white, leave a gap it the brush is tried. Get only to be of water and start going up using both sides of your brush and blending it and go in from site to site. We found left in your brush, some more white. The gap. It's too dry, some water and go up. You can try this out with different colors. These are some that I have previously created so you can see all of these colors. I've created them by using the primary colors. So, as you can see, it's pretty easy. Do you just need to go from side to side, not washing your breasts and blending it? Now go give it a try and show me your progress in the gallery. 7. TIPS AND TRICKS: way. Start creating our illustration. I wanted to share with you some some of my tricks and give you some tips. So it is really hard to sometimes create some details with a brush, even though you can use a really, really small brush. So sometimes I used some markers. They're acrylic, too, and they come out really handy for creating some details. I have some Posca colors. They're very useful. When you need to create some straight lines or some patterns, you can see that it's really quick, too, and you can find some really nice colors. I used them when I have to create this type of details. He's a really good I also. But this set on Amazon. They're also acrylic, and they were like a good price. Let's get one up. But I have to say that they are not so paid. And as you can see, sometimes they're a little bit rough. You can trade some very white lines. Oh, are FINA Airlines depending on how you hold them, another tape that I'm going to give you peace If you want to create like a very straight line, it's kind of hard to do this with a brush forex. I want to do a triangle. Okay, The lines are OK, but if you really want very sharp line, what I do is I use a piece of paper, get some pain. You can I use the itch to create my itch. Okay. Too much water there made a little mistake. If this were a real painting, you could clean your brush the year yet. Wait, a little bit of paper. I'm sort of water and that's OK then are Of course, you can cover it with white paint. The funeral. So now that we have learned about last coder and shaves brush control trading volume with Grady in details and background radiance Yeah, Let's supply all of the's techniques to create a street. 8. INTRO TO EXERCISE: way will begin with this one by treating the background radiant, and we will let it dry. And while it's drying, we will start with this one past some details in the leaves and also some vagary. And we will try to create to give some volume to the platform so we can practice all of the techniques. So get ready. Have your pencil and your racer if you needed to do a fast sketch and let's begin. 9. ILLUSTRATION PART 1: So I have scheduled ready the plant here also on my other one. And the first thing that we are going to do is create that Grady in background. I don't want to mess up my stable, so I'm going to grab a piece of paper and some artists tape. I just run out of it. So I will be using some spare washing date That I have is good because it's not too sticky , so it wouldn't damage the paper way. So for the background, I think that, uh, light pink color well look good on here. As you can see, I mix my colors sometimes with the brush, although the best thing that you can do this makes them with the knife. Okay, so we will leave these to dry. So the first thing that we want to do is the part because it's better to start from the background to the top. So let's grew up some much info way we need to create a green. Let this trying a little bit. I already tried before beginning a second goat because he beautiful paint before it strikes . If you will be lifting the color instead of eyes So while this week dries in this one because they need a second code, I'm going to draw some details. I also want to create some 19 believes so while this dries, let's go on to the next plan. 10. ILLUSTRATION PART 2: Let's go back to our first illustration. We were recreating this plant. Now, if you remember, we had added a pink background. I have actually given it a second coat to make the color or more uniforms. And also I have sketch very likely here the plant again. So I have a guide to follow. I have also clean my palette because the colors were already try and I was running out of space. If you want to do these and it's a glass palate, just what it a little bit and then a scrape it off. I used this window scraper and it s you can see it looks from you. I have already made some green use in my job, my blue. And then I have added a jello Naples and a Venetian red. You can make these two colors with your This one will be we g o wide and a pinch of Fred and the Venetian red. It's made with some Jell O in red and some white. I own these two colors because I used them a lot, So I buy them. They have them here. I'm going to show you they can in these plastic containers. What I do is that I don't use the cup. I don't cut the point here and you sick up because I think it's not containing the year good enough and my color will dry up. So what I do is I just when I need to use it, open the bottle. My nice of it, yeah, wraps him up and onto the bus, and then I make sure I close back again. Good enough, and that's it. So now that we are ready, let's begin with our second plant in illustration, perhaps some green. And I also likes to have some paper handy where I can try my colors. So let's see how the screen is looking. Okay, It's a nice one. So this will be like our main grief, and we will we make singing more blue or Marcello to lighten or darken the corner. I'm using my round fresh for these, and the reason is that I can use the tip of the brush, and then Rodan at a little bit of pressure in your brush, will spread out. It's like this, probably a bit of color. Use your deep. You can practice like these beforehand and then at a little bit of pressure to meet again. Pressure. So I'm using this way we try to recreate his detail. I actually did it. Add in a little bit of back to the green with my flat brush I created this Marks, I will show you. This gutter needs to be darker than the one we use before So that he is be taken. Darken it up a little bit more. You want to trees like a green black? Can you train with this one? So when we want to Do you know, just use our for us too. Create this type of mark. No. As you can see, my marks are shorter here because I used a smaller size broth. So I'm going to grow up this modern flat. Nice brush. Okay, We're right. Make sure that the lunch aren't aligned, because if not, it would look really weird before paper. All right. You want you can use a marker, and now the best part when we are done. So I finished this illustration to I wanted to show you what I did here. I gave this leaves a second layer so that they had a more opaque look and so that we weren't able to see the foot. And I also added thesis lighter greens on top layer in them and gave them the final detail with the postcode marker. And that's it. So now we have far too registration finished, ready to give them to a friend or make into a postcard. All right, come on. Our world, whatever you want to do, I will love to see what you do in the project gallery. So please share your progress with me. And if you have any questions 11. FINAL THOUGHTS: Hey, congratulations on finishing the class. We've covered all the different techniques you can use to create a beautiful Latrell administration. So go on, keep on painting and keep on creating Share what you can mock with in the project gallery. I would love to see. Thank you for taking this class. It's been a pleasure to teach it to you.
