1. Introduction to Challenge-Based Experience Training: hello and welcome to five ways to benefit by offering a challenge experience to your audience. So here's what we're going to cover today. We're gonna talk about the benefits of offering a challenge. Experience. Challenge. Experiences can be a wonderful way to develop relationships with your audience. We'll talk about that. We can help you sell more books. They can help you build your business in a variety of ways. And then we'll talk about how to choose the best challenge, topic and format for your audience. And I'll give you a formula that you can jot down and apply to your own topic. And then I'll share five different types of challenges you can offer, and my hopes are that they're going to spark ideas they're going to be. Some of these may be familiar to you familiar concepts, and some of these might be unique ways of delivering content that will spark ideas for you . That's my that is, Ah, one of my hopes for you today, and then I'll share ways to boost your book in product sales while increasing your credibility and your brand. So in this webinar you are going to learn strategies that you can apply right away. You can take these, put them into action and start to create challenges and grow your audience immediately. You can take these strategies and apply them, and I just want take a brief moment to introduce myself. I also want to share a little bit about how I came up with the challenge, creating a challenge concept and some of the things that I have accomplished because they could be great examples and helped to give you ideas for what you might want to create. So I've been marketing online since 1994. I've been working exclusively with author since 2007. I'm the best selling author of over 20 books, all on the topic of online book marketing. I've created over 25 online programs. I've taught challenge experience programs to thousands of other authors across the globe, and I've built a solid business around my books, transforming the content of the book into online courses and challenge programs. So what happened was, I came across a couple of well, maybe three years ago At this point, I saw that someone was offering a 30 day challenge on list building. I thought well, that was unique. And so I registered for the program, and she offered it at two levels, a free level in a paid level. Well, that changed my business model forever. I loved what I learned. I studied at the free level and at the paid level to see what it was she did. And here's what I have accomplished in the last three years. I've created over eight challenge experiences. Thes are all online challenge programs that I develop sparked from that initial idea. Now my hopes are is that I'm in a spark an idea for you today, and you may see that they're a challenge programs on the screen. But I started from scratch. So you want to start with where you are by developing your first program. Because once you develop your first challenge program, you'll know all of the pieces that need to go into place, and you can replicate and create additional challenge experiences. Maybe it will be a a next level challenge, or you'll want to begin with the free challenge to grow your email list and then move into a paid challenge to grow your income. So I started with one and then I built from there. Now what I found was that I was creating a worksheets because I teach system step by step. So I was creating word sheets and I got the idea to publish action guides and journals to go along with the challenges. And so I'm I started with one, and I loved creating the workbook so much that you can see now I have for four of my challenges, I have the workbooks, and then each one has a corresponding journal. So again, my hopes in sharing these examples are that they will spark ideas for you. What would you love to teach a step by step system about? What would you love for your participants to journal about Kyle again? I'm hoping I'm really sparking some ideas here for you. I have seen a 10 times boost in my book sales. I mean, think about it. When you have an author that you love or that you enjoy, don't you often times want to get everything they've they've written Will, Your audience is going to feel the same way about your book. So the more books you write or the more work books and journals you publish. People are gonna want to know. What else did you write? And they're gonna want to purchase that as well. So that is exciting. So if you knew that the work you're doing in this world, you're able to help more and more people, How satisfying would that be? So you get that great feeling of satisfaction in seeing what your students of your challenge programs are accomplishing, and it's really exciting. And then you create this working formula for future programmes. Once you create your first challenge program, what will happen is you can rinse and repeat and create additional challenge experiences that are built on the concepts that you learned now. When I first started, I did. I started from scratch, and I really didn't know what I was getting into. And I learned the whole lot about what not to dio. So the next challenge program that I created I refined, and each time I refined and I simplify, and my goal is to is to have the content be more more accessible to the participants and having taught over 25 online programs, I noticed that when I teach the or and I offer the challenge experience model, where I teach step by step that people accomplish more because they're getting bite size steps instead of big chunks of content. So I think having a step by step process really makes it easy for you to create the content and easy for your audience to consume it. 2. The Benefits of a Offering Challenge-Based Training Programs: They can also really boost your business because they provide you with a way to grow your email list and your income, which grows your business. They also position you as a leader in your field as a thought leader, as someone who has expertise in a certain area. And so when people are hosting Telus summits or having in person seminars, they're looking for people who have expertise in their topic area. Well, if you have delivered a challenge experience in that topic area, you're well positioned to have all kinds of doors of opportunity open up for you. They also provide a wonderful opportunity and a way for you to connect at a deeper level with your audience because you get to know them to get to ask questions. They learn to trust you, and you became you become that trusted advisor for them, and then you create this loyal customer basis, loyal student base. And when you have that, when people are appreciative, doesn't it? Doesn't it make you want to give more? So you're creating this win win when you get to give more of what you love, what you know people need, and they and those people get to benefit by your experience and your expertise. So how can your audience benefit from a challenge experience? We talked about some of the ways that you can benefit. Let's talk about how your audience can benefit Well, first of all, they receive a solution to a problem or a challenge that their experience, that they don't know that they're experiencing, that they don't know how to fix. I'm just going to share some ideas off the top of my head. We all know how important is to drink water, but we're so busy and we're not always buy, you know, a water faucet or have a bottle of water with us. And so how do you drink water without being up all night? You know, because you drink your water at night. And so you offering a challenge that shows people how to effectively drink more water might sound simple, but its huge it can increase people's energy level. It can allow them to sleep more. It can improve their complexion. It can help them in so many ways. So that's just one example. And so think about things that you want to know. The answer to that. You would love a solution to that. You don't know and you connect with someone who's I call it, who's already been through the jungle with a machete, and they've cleared a path for you, and it seems once you start on that path, it seems so obvious. But you couldn't see it before. But someone's leading the way. Well, you ca ndu that you can lead the way for your audience and they will be so grateful. And then you'll have that sense of satisfaction. Another thing, a challenge experience offers, is it allows participants to connect with other people who are experiencing that same challenge, that same obstacle, and they don't feel so alone. Sometimes when we're going through a struggle, we think we're the only person in the world that's experiencing that. But if we get to connect with others in a supportive environment and realize that we're not alone and that there is a solution to get to the other side, it's very empowering. And then they also discover and build a relationships with you as their mentor and that you can help them on their journey and this convey, build long reaching results and benefits for both of you 3. Identify the Topic for Your Challenge: So you may be wondering, how do you know what topic to offer a challenge experience on. So I want to share some examples and some concepts, and my hopes are that you're taking notes so that you can jot down ideas as they come to mind, and they don't slip out your mind or you forget them. So be sure you have pencil on paper, seem shot down Some examples, you may say, Oh, if I do a challenge experience, I would love to include this piece or I would love or oh, I just got an idea. I want to do something on this topic. So I'm hoping to spark ideas for you. You start off by identifying the best challenge toe offer. And so you begin by thinking about what solution is your audience thinking? So what you do is you take a blank piece of paper and you don't wanna grab a blank piece of paper, and you won't go through the exercise now. But I'll give you the formula, and then you can go through the exercise when you can give it your full concentration. So you take a piece of paper and you divide it into three columns, and then I'm gonna just kind of scroll down so you can see the visual. What you're gonna do is in the first column, you're gonna put audience solution. What you're gonna do is you're gonna list your ideas for what solution Your ideal audience is seeking not everything in the world that you know that people help need help with. But what you are ideal audience would would love help with and your ideal audience. Imagine you're standing on a stage and the room is There's 500 seats and the room was filled with people who are interested in what you have to say. That's the audience I'm talking about. What are they interested in? What solution are they seeking, then, in the middle column, write down what I love to teach or what I would love to teach. And that's the column where you jot down everything that you would love to teach. Now, for example, you may have a lot of experience in building websites, but it's something that you would rather go to the dentist than teach someone how to build a website so that middle column is what you would love to teach and then in the right hand column, right down my expertise and then jot down all the things you have. Expertise it. And once you've created your three, let you know that filled out these three list and you can you might have 20 things. I just for the purposes of of the slide. I just listed five, but you may have 20 items in some of the columns. Then what you want to do is you want to start to circle items that meets all three criteria . It's a solution your audience is seeking, that you would love to teach based on your area of expertise. And then you look and you're going to see that it's gonna really limit the number of items that you circle. And there you'll see possible ideas for your challenge program. So this is a really powerful, time tested strategy that you can used to figure out what topic might be the ideal topic. Teach your challenge on and know that you may have several ideas, but the way to get a challenge completed is to jot down all of your ideas and then pick one and develop your challenge. on that all the way through, and then you can move forward and create other challenge experiences. If you like the process and and the results, narrow it down, pick one topic and then run with that. 4. Ways to Identify Various Markets & Niche Topics: there are challenges in various markets. I'm just gonna share three markets. The first is the weight loss of fifth fitness market. The second is the online marketing market, and the third is on the topic of Productivity's. Now. Obviously, there are unlimited ideas. I just wanted to come up with three topic areas and then possible challenge topics in each of those areas. So in the productivity's area, for example, you can have a to do list challenge or a writing challenge. In the online marketing arena, you could have a blogging challenge or a Facebook challenge. And in the weight loss and fitness category, you can have a low carb challenge or a exercise and exercise challenge so you can see you get a lot of ideas here. So another exercise that may help you in developing an idea for your challenge is to give thought to what your topic area is like a high level topic area and then just begin to jot down possible topics that you would like to that you could see as a challenge experience and then run them by the exercise that you did to make sure that they meet all three criteria. I call it the intersection of what your audience would love to learn what you would love to teach and what you have expertise in. 5. Challenges Offer Many Things: a challenge. Experience can walk people through a process step by step, so it's not a huge time investment. They can accomplish something in 5 to 15 to 30 minutes. However, you know what whatever your challenge experience is offering. For example, if you're teaching people to walk for 30 minutes a day, obviously they would need a few minutes to go through that days strategy or tip and then walk for their 30 minutes. If you're teaching people how to drink more water, they mean it may need five minutes to go through that day's training and then five minutes to set up their water stations for the day. So you you'll find with your challenge, you'll know what the time frame would be, and then you're gonna help them create new habits. That's another type of challenge these air types of challenge one is walking people through a process step by step, like teaching people how to build a website. The other is to help people develop new habits like drinking more water, and the other is creating opportunities for accountability. So maybe it's a challenge on eating like like no sugar, no sugar challenge and then being accountable to the group into themselves to not eat sugar for 21 days for something like that. So these air that are additional idea joggers for the type of challenge that you might want to offer. 6. 5 Types of Challenges: So I'm going to share with you five different types of challenges so that you can, um, see some examples in real life as well as continue to develop ideas that are percolating for you so you can offer a free challenge so it doesn't cost any anything for people to join. But the goal is that they register to your email list. They become your subscriber so that you can grow an ongoing relationship with them. This could be a five or a seven day challenge on a topic that's of great interest to your ideal audience. And it's a wonderful way to get people on your email is because once they're on your email list, you can start to develop a relationship. You can find out more about what they're interested in. They can get to know you, and it's a wonderful way toe relationships and grow a business. It's also offering a free challenge is a wonderful way to offer an appetizer from your paid course or your longer challenge program, because after your free challenge, you you can let people know. If you like the seven day challenge, we can keep the mo mentum going and you could go right into the 21 day challenge and let's just keep going and a lot of people will continue on with you. So that's a way to create two different types of challenges where one feeds into the other . So here's some examples of free challenge topics. Ah, seven day productivity challenge, a 21 day Healthy living Challenge or a 30 day lists building challenge. Now you can create a free challenge on any topic you can create. Ah, the challenge. Based on your book, you can create a challenge based on any area of things that you want to teach, and you can break it down where you basically you're giving them an appetizer from a bigger program. So here's some tips for designing your free challenge. First of all, you participate in the exercise that it exercises that I shared with you, and you choose a topic that's of interest to your audience. Perhaps you can base it on a chapter of your book, so you pick one chapter of your book and you develop seven to do items or seven tips that you can share in each one with an activity. There's your challenge. Or let's say you have a five step signature system where you walk people through how to develop their branding or build their website or create a challenge, whatever it is, and what you can do is pick one tip from each step. Typically, a signature system is 3 to 5 to seven steps, and so if you're gonna do a five day challenge or seven day challenge, and your signature system is five or seven strategies, you pick one. Pick one of your favorite strategies from each of those areas, and you let people know that this is an appetizer from your main program. So you're already planting the seed that if they resonate with the topic that they could go on and take the full program. So what solution will you will you off? Will your challenge offer What solution with your challenge offer? That's what people want to know. They don't care how many days it is or how many pieces of paper they get, or if there's a Facebook group, they want to know what's in it for them. And how is your challenge going to help them? So as you develop your challenge, you want to be really clear on what solution you are offering, and then what you want to do is include suggested action steps. So, for example, you could say today's date. Let's say you write this out in an email cause you can deliver challenge content via email . Today is day one of our such and such challenge. Today's tip is blah, blah, blah. Um, take a moment now while you're thinking about it, and here is your action step for today, and you can have them get a dedicated journal. Or you can give them a journal page that they print off. Or if you're teaching a step by step process, you can give them that day's work sheet page. So can you see how the pieces air starting to come together here. You also can offer a way for people to engage and interact. Maybe you have a daily blawg post. Or maybe you have a Facebook group that is open to members who are at the free level or as well as the paid level so you can bring them into the community. Or maybe you have a group of Facebook group that's just dedicated to people who registered at the free level and then you have a different Facebook group for people who are at the paid level is completely up to you. These are just some examples now. This can also, by having a free level challenge, lead people towards a deeper dive into the topic, which can lead them into your paid programs, whether their courses or you're coaching programs. Ah, second ideas to offer a challenge based on your book. Now this is a great way to lift the words off the pages of your book and bring them to life , because think about the books that you buy. I don't know about you. I mean, I'm a I love books and I have books in every room, and I don't always read a book the moment I get it. Sometimes it's a year later. Well, your challenge experience can help bring the topic of your book toe life, help people retain information, help people take action and really deliver results for you and for your audience. This is gonna help them take that action, and they'll achieve the results more than just reading a chapter or two of your book and then setting it down, and so this really brings it to life. As I mentioned, your challenge can also promote your book, and in your book you can promote your challenge. So by growing your email list, you can promote your book and your challenge to your audience. In your book, you can have a marketing page at the beginning and at the end, where you invite people to register for your free challenge. You can call it a companion course if you will. And that way you get people over from Amazon who you have no idea who they are. They will get onto your email this because you're offering them a companion course, even though it's a challenge. Calling it a companion course. You can call it a companion course and then refer to it as a seven day challenge, for example, but a companion course of very compelling you might want to write down that topic of that concept companion course. In fact, this is an example of a companion course that I offered. I am a planner, you know, like the um, calendars and planners. I am a fiend, the hound I love. I love planners and I've been looking for years for a planner that I could use to help me keep track of healthy habits and write down my six most important things that I want to accomplish each day and my key appointments for that day and how much water I drank and what books I'm reading. I couldn't find it, so I decided it is not to design it. So then what I did 90 days easily creates 12 weeks. So I created a 12 week challenge. And here are some ways that you can offer using your book and offering a companion course to go along with your book. This connect. Extend the information you share in your book and provide actionable steps to readers to participants. And you can offer this type of challenge for free to those who purchase your book. Or maybe you have a free and a paid level. Remember, start with one challenge. Develop it fully. You can always tweak it, or you can always add an additional challenge. But start with one idea. See it through, and if you start to get additional ideas of, I can do a challenge on this or I could do a challenge on that. Have a page that's titled Future Challenge Ideas and Capture the idea and any notes you want to write and then get get back to work, creating your challenge that will. Keeping that focus will really help you bring it to market, and it can really boost your book sales. So promote the free challenge in your book to grow your email list. And then you can promote to your email list for people to buy the book and this will. There will be a logical sequence that also leads people into your paid courses and you're coaching programs. The third type of challenge is a two level challenge offering. So, for example, you can have your challenge topic. Let's say it's called the Walk More like W. A L K. The Walk More challenge, and you have a free list builder where you offer a seven days where you help them. Ah, you give them daily tips and exercise to help them learn how to not learned how to. But take action in walking more. And this is a great way to build your list when speaking both online and offline, and then you what you can do is you can extend that offer more. So maybe in addition to the emails, maybe you offer a weekly video tip or live calls once or twice a year, which you can record and then have available on an evergreen model. At the pain level, you may also want to offer. I call it a Facebook discussion form people like discussion forums, and that really boosts your ability to, um, have it be enticing for people to want to register at the paid level. And so this gives you options as well, because a lot of people at the free level, once they get to know you and see the value that you're offering, provide an opportunity for them to upgrade to the paid level. So this is this is a popular model is well, and then the fourth model is to offer challenges for a fee as part of your marketing funnel . So, for example, a challenge can be delivered as daily steps over several weeks or a month. So each day for 30 days, for example, they get an email with a with a little tip and an action step and either instructions to have their dedicated journal that they buy. Or maybe you provide them with a Daily journal page. Or, if you're building a step by step process, you provide them with that day's work sheet for that topic, and then what you can do here. In the previous example, we had a free level and a paid level. At this model, you have two different levels, and they're both paid level, with one level offering more training and coaching and more being more along the lines of a do it yourself off a more budget entry level. Maybe it's someone who hasn't studied with you yet, and they want to see, you know, do they resonate with your teaching style? And so it's a low risk way for people to sample your your training. And then again, you can have the opportunity for them to upgrade to the higher level if they want to. And this Kenly really help you grow your private or your group coaching programs because a challenge experience gets you in front of your audience for an extended period of time, and you can build a lot of trust. You can build relationships, and you can, um I find my for myself that over the years that the people who go on into my private coaching and my group coaching programs come from challenge programs because off the relationship that is built so there really powerful for growing your business. And then there's the fifth example where you can create companion workbooks for your challenge. Experience programs Students love how having a bound version off the course materials, they could certainly print them all off. A lot of people are trying to save on ink, and so if they look at how much think they're gonna spend, you know, printing off 30 or 60 pages versus purchasing a book for 10 or $20 they moment might wanna have the bound version. And the benefits for the bound version is they're going to keep them long term. It encourages them take cash because they see it there. It's not just ah pile of papers, and it's it's really powerful. People keep those workbooks and they refer back to them over time. This is also gonna boost the sales of your other books because when they go to Amazon to buy your workbook, they may say no wonder what else, this person writes, and then they're going to see your other books. And if they resonate with them, they can go on to purchase additional books, books, and that will really boost your book sales. 7. Steps for Success Exercise - Class Project: so you can really boost your business and grow your list by offering a challenge experience to your audience. So what I want to do is I want to share, um, kind of a ah compilation of several of the ideas that we talked about. So you may wanna jot this down. So the first step is to identify the perfect topic for your audience. What challenge does your audience face and what solution can you offer them and then outlined the key points you want to cover? So you take a blank piece of paper, and at the top you write the challenge topic, or, if you have an idea for a title, you write it at the top of the page and then think, What are the five things start off with? Five. I recommend. What are the five things I'd love to cheat to teach on this topic? And it could. Then it could be that those are the 55 tips, the five steps for your free challenge. And look at this. Then you take those five bullet points that you just wrote. So bullet point number one. So if they were doing a drink more water challenge. And so, bullet point number one is drinking water first thing in the morning. And so what you do is you take that bullet point number one, you get a fresh piece of paper and you write bullet point number one at the top of page your second page there and number your pages. So this is page two. And so this is bullet point number one, and it says drink more. You know the strategies for drinking more water in the morning, then put down three or five bullet points of tips that you can share to help them with that topic. So if you did that for all five of your bullet points on that first page, you're gonna have anywhere from 21 to 30 steps and there's your challenge, your challenge program, and you just round out the content. So this is that's really powerful. It's just basically a mathematical formula and thinking of the things that you want to teach on each of those topics and sub topics. And then for each of the topics and sub topics, you wanna have action steps. It's important because when people take action, they're going to get more out of it, they're going to retain what they've learned. So what actions do people need to take to accomplish each challenge step and then provide activities to help them apply what they learn or reinforce a new habit for them? So what ideas do you have for creating a challenge for your audience? What ideas were sparked by the training that you experienced today?
