About This Class

Hello and welcome to “3 Minute French - Course 7” The aim of this course is to make French accessible to anybody regardless of age, educational background or "aptitude" for learning. This course leads on from "3 Minute French – Courses 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6" and new language structures are introduced to enable you to communicate in more situations when on holiday abroad.

My method for teaching French is simple but effective. It works for anybody, no matter what your requirements. I have been teaching foreign languages for over ten years and I’ve taught a wide range of students of all ages and backgrounds, including students with learning difficulties, so I know my method is accessible to absolutely anyone, with no exception.

With this course, it’s almost as if you have your very own language tutor at your beck and call. Take it with you wherever you are and have a quick listen to one of the lessons whenever you find yourself with three minutes to spare. You will be amazed at how much your language skills will develop after just a few minutes a day of study. You will start to learn the French language in a simple, logical and fun way.

You will learn a variety of words that you will learn to put together to form sentences that will be useful in any visit to France or any other French speaking country, and you'll learn how to put the words together to form sentences, saying exactly what you want.

PROGRESS TO THE NEXT COURSE

Once you have completed this course, if you would like to learn more French using the same method, you can wait for course 8 (coming soon!) or find my other French courses. Here are the links:

3 Minute French – Course 1

3 Minute French – Course 2

3 Minute French – Course 3

3 Minute French – Course 4

3 Minute French – Course 5

3 Minute French – Course 6

3 Minute French – Course 7

Additionally, I have a series of French courses called “Building Structures”. These courses use the same method found in the 3 Minute French courses, but they focus on building fluency by looking at the different structures of the French language. I recommend starting these courses once you’ve completed up to 3 Minute French – Course 3, and then you can work through both series simultaneously. Here are the links for the Building Structures in French courses on SkillShare:

Building Structures in French – Structure 1

Building Structures in French – Structure 2

Building Structures in French – Structure 3

Building Structures in French – Structure 4

Finally, if you want to explore the French language even further, I have some French grammar courses available. I’ve used the same method in these courses as I have in the other courses, so hopefully you’ll find them fun and interesting

French Grammar – Quick Guide – Verbs 1

Success in French Grammar – The Past Tense (aka the present perfect)

If you would like to learn a different language, I have the same courses above available in Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch. Just head to my SkillShare profile page to find them all: https://www.skillshare.com/user/3minutelanguages

1. Course 7 introduction: Boesel, a bienvenue Hello and welcome to three minute French course seven. By now you're more than familiar with a method that we've been using in courses 1 to 6 off three minute French on this course is no different. Remember to keep your learning such a short chunks in order to maintain enthusiasm, to make learning into a habit on toe. Happy to memorize things much more easily. This course, as always, contains nine lessons. Lessons 54 to 62 and we'll be learning lots of new vocabulary, different structures. Andi, some more grammar that we can add everything that we've learned so far in order to build more adventurous sentences that bring us closer to fluency in French, as always, will be recapping everything that we've learned in previous lessons on mixing it. With all this new information this way, you won't have to worry about forgetting things that we learned early on in the courses. So messy. Bokel. I hope you enjoy Onda happy learning. One appointed Taj 2. 3 Minute French Lesson 54a: Let's start this lesson with a quick recap off the words and phrases that we learned in the last lesson. How do you say in French? I couldn't. I wanted Julie. I didn't want I waas Is it a day? I wasn't Gina Taper. I had Javy. I didn't have Genevieve. Some or any money do last June, Not any money Paddles. Now here's your first phrase in French for this lesson. Even evil ver naval. It can mean either are you coming or do you come very evil. So how would you ask in French? When are you coming? Company Veneva, What time is coming? I can't Veneva. I can tell Vinnie View now that we're aware off the two different way to say you in French , the formal or plural on D the informal. I'll tell you that Vinny View is the formal floral version. The informal version is V onto Vnt. So the anti means are you coming or do come when you're speaking to one person? You know very well so what would be the informal way off saying When are you coming? Combi. Aren't you Vnt? What time you coming? I cannot be empty. Akello V into So what will be the two ways the formal and the informal off saying, Are you coming to the beach? The informal would be V into a lap lodge the onto Elop Lodge or the formal or floral way would be Vinnie Vuvuzela, PLASCHKE Vinnie Vuvuzela plunge. 3. 3 Minute French Lesson 54b: What would be the two ways to ask in French? Are you coming tomorrow? Viene chadema the aunt you demand or Veneva Duma? Are you coming with me? To the supermarket? Viene to Or Vinnie Vujovic, More supermarket. She are you coming to Marie's house later? V onto Shemari. Pluta. Oh, Oshima! Hippolyta, Are you coming here? V entry, See? Oh, beneath the sea. Are you coming to Paris today or tomorrow? Vnt, Why do you come to friends? Poor quality and human forms. What forms the weird from is a type of word called a proposition on in French. You should never end a sentence with the proposition. So if you want to ask somebody where do you come from? We have to rearrange it a little. First you would have to put the proposition at the very start of the question on ask from where do you come instead? So in the informal, you would say Do vnt do V anti means Where do you come from? Literally. From where do you come? Or the formal plural version would be. Do Veneva Duvernay view literally from where do you come? But in English, we asked Where do you come from So the French word for From is due spelt d e on the word for Where is when these two words come together? They form from where? Which is due d apostrophe ou So do V anti on Duvernay view both mean Where do you come from ? 4. 3 Minute French Lesson 54c: So we've just seen that the word boo means from where And it's made up off the words do spelt d e on do which means where and when you put them together and you get d apostrophe. Oh, you do? From where? And you use it in French when in English we have the word from at the end of a sentence on the word wear at the start. So, for example, how would you say in French, Where do you come from Nuvi onto or do Veneva so literally. It means from where do you come? How would you ask? Excuse me, where do you come from? Excuse more Do V into Oh, excuse me more do Veneva. So you'll notice that in the first phrase I said excuse more and so excuse more Is the informal way off saying Excuse me so excuse memoir is the former way on Excuse more is the informally. Here's your next phrase in French and it leader nicely from Duvernay is your Viana do is your beyond to it means I come from your beyond do so How would you say I come from friends ? Joviane deforms Joviane deforms. I come from England. Joviane Jovian. Normally, I come from here juvie in D c joviane D c. So you'll notice that the word do Which means from shortens two d apostrophe when it's in front of a vow like we had with Joviane Bomblet there Juvie in D. C. How would you ask, Do you come from here? VM to D C oh, anybody see? 5. 3 Minute French Lesson 54d: How would you say in French? I come from Paris. Juvie on the body is your younger Kathy. I don't come from Marseilles. I come from Exxon problems. Genovian Dixon Problems, June problems. So did you remember how to make something negative in French? Using report New Any in front of the verb on part P. A s after it. So you have young means I come Your VM pop means I don't. Come on. It tends to be pronounced June So just reiterate on daughter because it could mean two things in English is the negative off Jovian June. So June vamper can mean Either I don't come or I'm not coming. Similarly, the phrase Jovian could mean two things in English to it could mean I come or I'm coming. So how would you say in French? I don't come from here. June via Odyssey, Jillian C. I don't come from England, Junior Jinyan. Pat, don't let there. Well, how would you say I'm not coming tomorrow? Junior Madam Junior Fatima. So June Vienne back mean I don't come or I'm not coming. How would you say I'm not coming today? I'm coming tomorrow. You should be so junior, And that could mean I don't come or I'm not coming. Similarly, Juve Young could mean I come or I'm coming on. That's quite a useful thing to note that in French, when you have a conjugated verb. So juvie in, for example, or June grandpa generally it could mean two things in English. 6. 3 Minute French Lesson 54e: in this course, I've included a vocabulary expansion section full off the French words for different countries. I've tried to think of as many countries as I possibly could, but if you find anything missing, then let me know and I'll add it in. As always, there are lots of words in the vocabulary expansion section, but you shouldn't try and learn them all. You should definitely in your own country, But you could also try learning the names of countries that you tend to go on holiday. You'll find that a lot of the countries are very similar in French and English, so they shouldn't be too hard to then Now talking about holidays. Here's your next phrase in English Do let hungy the let hungy It means from abroad. Do let hungy So how would you say I come from abroad? Juvie? In the letter G. Joviane Delaet How would you ask? Do you come from abroad? V onto over Neveu Delight hungy so V and do Onda Vinnie Voo both mean Do you come well, remembering that you make things negative by putting a new Onda part around it. Here are two more negative phrases Nuvi on Cuba. Oh, I live in a bouba and they both mean don't you come. Oh, aren't you coming, Nuvi onto Pa? Never naval power. So Nuvi Entrepot is the informal way off saying Don't you come or aren't you coming on? Duvernay Bouba is the formal Andi PLO away. How would you ask? Aren't you coming to the beach? Nuvi onto Palop Lodge living in Juba Jalape Lage So the s on the end of power. You can liaise with the meaning to so basil a flash or pat Jalape Lage, It's optional. Nuvi onto Plaza Laplanche New Veneva, but a plunge! How would you ask? Aren't you coming tomorrow? Navy on cheap abdomen. Oh, Naval Fatima, aren't you coming with me to the supermarket? Nuvi onto Patrick More marshy, uh, new Naval Pacific coast of Marshy. 7. 3 Minute French Lesson 54f: How would you ask in French? Aren't you going to Marie's house later? Nuvi On Tupac Shemari Puta Nova Naval Passion Maria! Rita, Aren't you coming here? Navy on to possess e never naval policy. Don't you come from Paris Nuvi Onto Padded Barry Noven Evil Pat Deputy, Why don't you come to friends? Aqua Nuvi onto peasant farms. What? Never naval pattern forms. It's not from here. It's from abroad. Sony Dadc say the letter energy Cindy Paigc say they let orgy. Is it from abroad? Leave Akron's Lee vacuums. It means the holidays or the vacation leave Akram's. How would you say in French? I like holidays on literally. You would have to say, I like the holidays. Jim, leave Akron's Jim Lee vacuums. How would you say I don't like holidays abroad and again, literally would have to say, I don't like the holidays abroad. I spent two days here with Charles J passe du jour. He see election J passe D joi sey avec shall so passe with an e. R. On the end means to spend on to form the past tense or have to do is take the auxiliary verb J meaning I have. And then you change the where Passy to pass a with an e on an accent. How would you ask in the past, Where did you spend the holidays? Who actually bacilli? Bracken's So in a question in the past tense, you simply invert the auxiliary verb. So after means, have you or did you? Or of evil is the formal or plural version? And then you put the past participle Pass E on the end at two. Pasi means. Did you spend or have you spent? How would you ask? How much is it to spend three nights at this hotel? Say, come beyond the past 20 ascent Hotel se cumbia in the past 20 aside hotel. So the phrase sitcom young means how much is it? And if you want to put a verb on the end, don't forget. You just need a little word. Do say Cumbia de Passy. How much is it to spend 20 Asset Hotel on? We use the word set for this in this sentence because the word or 10 is a masculine noun that starts with a hate. You see a body just Reza Patty Now in French. The words on Onda are can both mean to and they can both mean in. But when do you use which well, it is quite simple. A rule of thumb is that you use the word on when you're talking about a country and you use the word if you're talking about a town, a city or anything else for example, juvie on farms Javaid Alphonse means I'm going to France on France is a country. So we use the word on. So the word all means to or in when you're speaking about a country on your hand, Juve a a party you made that body means I'm going to Paris and so Paris is a city. So whenever you're talking about a city or a town, then you use are too mean to or in Juve, a jalopy scene. I don't like red wine, but I like white wine and in French. When you're talking about liking Andi not liking things in general, then you should put the word the or look or lot in front off the noun. So literally, you would say in French I don't like the red wine, but I like the white wine and it's still talking about wine in general. Is your name Taliban? Whose me, Jim live on blow the Taliban whose major monogram blown I don't like this restaurant is your name. Bastard is your name. But so esta home. I don't like it here because there is too much noise. General Empathy. See, Cascadia told the boy journal. Empathy. See, Cascadia told the I don't like the room. There are lots of cockroaches. Gin, Impala, Chama, you named Abu Cafa. So in this lesson, so far, I've just had a quick recap off the two words, Jim. Meaning I like on June MPA, which means I don't like. Now we can change the subject off. Jim on. Make it into a question on we get the question, Amy view Amy, which means Do you like em? Evil. So how would you ask him? French. Do you like the hotel? I am Evil Hotel. I m a view hotel. Do you like the wine? Amy Boulevard? Mm. Who live on in French? If somebody says m even live on it can actually mean two things it could mean. Do you like the wine? But it could also mean. Do you like wine? Meaning? Do you like wine in general? So Mm. Bhuvan is a way of saying somebody do like wine. Now, the phrase Mabou is the former way off saying do you like in the informal We get the phrase m two mtu So m two is the informal way off thing Do you like so informally? How would you say? Do you like the hotel m to know Tele into law? Tell or informally how would you say? Do you like the wine and to live on in to live on and again? The sentence m Tuvan can mean. Do you like the wine for delight? Wine? What would be the two ways to say in French? Do you like London and to launder O m e vou launder? 26. 3 Minute French Lesson 55d: in this lesson. So far we've had Jim meaning I like June MPA, which means I don't like and made room which is the formal or pull away off saying do you like and then m two is the informal way off asking Do you like now the good thing about any phrase in French that contains the word like is that you can put a verb on the end of it in English. If you want to use the verb after like you have to put in on the end, for example, I like speaking. Or do you like dancing in French? You can just use the whole bed. So if you want to say something like I like speaking French, we're literally What would have to say is I like to speak French, which is Jim Wylie. Francie Jim Bailly fancy. So after Jim, you could just use the whole verb badly. And you can do this after any form off the verb like in French. So if you want to ask, do you like doing that? But literally, you would just say, Do you like to do that? I m too fast and to Vesa. So there is no way to say ing in French. You just use the whole verb instead. And when I say the whole verb, I mean the infinitive or the that ends in the letters E r i R or R E like Palley ends and er or fair ends in our e. They're both examples off infinitives. So how would you say in French? I like speaking French. Jim Barley Fancy Jim Bali Fancy. Do you like eating French food? M two more Jay Leno Hydrophone says. Oh, Amy Vermont. Jay Leno. Each orphan says, Why do you like doing that? Boca MJ versa. No polka FSA. And don't forget that another way of saying that in French is Sula. So you could say Boca into fair Sola. Now the negative versions off do you like are easy to form or you have to do. Is port no in front of the whole phrase and power after it so far is the singular or informal way off saying Don't you like Andi name Mehbooba is the plural or formal way of saying Don't you like name Cooper and Namie Bouba? So how would you say? Don't you like that? No, Que pasa? Oh no pasa 27. 3 Minute French Lesson 55e: How would you ask In French? Why don't you like Pierre Poke? What name? To Poppaea. Oh, okay. What name? Eboo. Poppaea. Don't you like the wine? No Taliban, no Taliban. Which one Don't you like? Kill? Name Juba. Kill Namie Bouba. So the word gem is I like is your name? Power is I don't like I m a boo Means do you like in the formal or plural? M two is the in form way of saying Do you like No, Mehbooba is the formal or pleura way of saying. Don't you like Andi name Cooper? Is the informal way off saying Don't you like? So how would you ask? Don't you like my car then to Obama What you name a group at my watch. Now if you add the letter l in front of em a boom we get lemon evil So l apostrophe is short for low on It means do you like it? Let me evil. Similarly, in the informal, you will get leme too. Let me to So let you is the informal way of saying do you like it? So how would you ask? Do you like it in Paris? Let me to a party. Let me give you a very do you like it Here? Lend to you. See? Let me brucie. To make those two phrases negative or you have to do is important. New at the very start and part on the end. So Newlin Juba Andi know Lemme bouba both mean Don't you like it? So, um tuba is the informal way Andi new levee bouba is the formal way or the floor away. So how would you say in French? Don't you like it in London? No. Let you pass alone? It means I went and usually you'll hear the s on the end of sweetie liaised with the A at the start of any. So Robert van just we away. You'll hear just easily And it means I went. So how would you say in French? I went to France just easily on France, just we I lay on farms. I went to Paris just recently a party you three. And so in this sentence, we say for two because it's followed by Patty, which is a city so just weaselly at body. Where is in the last sentence? We said on for two because it was followed by a country France. So just was at a conference. So don't forget that, uh means to in front of a town or a city on our means to in front of the country. How would you say I went to Marie's just easily. Shemari is your store easily she marry. I went yesterday just easily. Yeah, just three l a year. 33. 3 Minute French Lesson 56b: So we've just seen that the phrase just with any means I went. However, if you're a woman saying this phrase, then in writing, you need to add an extra E onto the end off Ali to make it feminine. So it becomes Ali spelt a l l e with an accent e. It's pronounced in exactly the same way, So it's only really in writing that you have to keep this rule in mind so just easily with an extra e means I went. If you're a woman speaking, Andi just weasel a means I went. If you're a man speaking, let's make this phrase negative now. Gin, sweet basil juicy. And this means I didn't go Jenna Sweet basil e. So the jury and the no in speaking tend to sound like Jin Jin. Sweet basil E on the S on the end off power tends to liaise with the A at the start of a way, you can say June sweep at Ali, but you will hear more often than not, agency basil e on. Don't forget that if you're a woman saying this phrase, you have to add an extra e to the end off Ali to make it feminine, But you can't hear this in speaking. So how would you say in French? I didn't go to France. Juicy Plaza Leon, France June CPAs Early on forms I didn't go to the beach yesterday. Agency Pozzuoli Jalape Lodge Year agency Puzzle applies year. So we've learned so far that the phrase just weaselly means I went Andi Gentry. Pozzuoli means I didn't go. So how would you say I didn't go to Marseille Regency Pozzuoli a. Massey Gin CPAs, Ali Ahmad We learned a couple of lessons ago that in French, the words on Andi are can both mean to and they can also both mean in. And then we learned a simple rule of thumb. You use arm when you're talking about a country, and you use are when you're talking about a town, a city or anything else. For example, Juve A in France, you're vaison France means I'm going to friends, which is a country. But you've a happily juvie that Barry means I'm going to Paris, which is a city now. If you have looked at the vocabulary expansion sheet for countries yet you might have noticed that most of the countries in French are feminine. However, there are a few which are masculine and a few which a plural. If a country is feminine, you can use arm in front of it to mean to or in as we've already learned. On the other hand, if a country is masculine or plural, you have to use our in front of it to mean to or in whenever years home. The word for the disappears from the start of the country. But when you use ah, the word for the remained in place. Just remember, the old rules are plus blue make Oh on our plus lay make oh Aux So the rule of thumb is you use arm with countries Andi are with towns or cities. But if you have a masculine or a plural country, you have to use up for two or in here are some examples you've a only 20 is your weighs only 20. This means I'm going to Lithuania. Andi Lithuania in French is a feminine country, so we use the word home for two. Similarly, you would use the word on for in. So if you say is just three Onley 20 that means I'm in Lithuania is your sweet only 20. So Lithuania is a feminine country, so we can use the word on you. They are no longer there is your days along with their means. I'm going to England and England is a feminine country. So we use the word on Is your stories on with their is your sweet along with their means? I'm in England and again England is a feminine country so we can use the word arm for in Let's have a look at a masculine country. Juvie Oh, make seek is your basil make seek. This means I'm going to Mexico and it just so happens that Mexico in French is a masculine country. So look, mix seek means Mexico literally the Mexico. And so we have to use the word, uh for to But because we have the word for that which is low the r and become oh au Juve Oh , make sick is your street so make seek just we go make seek This means I'm in Mexico So the word all is a contraction off are on low and it could mean to or in when it's used in front of masculine countries. You've a open. Who is your vase? Open home. I'm going to Peru. So Peru is another masculine country in French. Just be open. Who is your street? So pale? I'm in Peru, and so all can mean two. Or in when it's placed in front of a masculine country. Let's have a look at a plural country. The survey was a Kazerooni is your basil that that you need? This means I'm going to the United States. So Lazy 1000 me means the United States. Literally. It's the states united lazy that you need. And so it's lay, which means it's plural. And we have to use the word, uh, for two on a plus. Lay makes oh aux So you Veysel that does you need I'm going to the United States. Similarly, just we or the Tasman E is your street off the Tajani I'm in the United States, and so later does uni means the United States and all it as uni means to the United States or in the United States. So the word oh can mean two or in when it's followed by a plural country. Now, most of the countries in French off feminine, so you would tend to use home. But just be aware that there are a few masculine on a few plural countries with which you have to use as a general rule, though if you use on more often than not, you'll be right. 34. 3 Minute French Lesson 56c: For these next few translations, you might need to refer to the vocabulary expansion sheet for countries. How would you say in French? I wanted to go to Cape Bird. Julie Away woke up there. Julie's away or cap there. So look up. There is Cape Bird on DSO. It's masculine. So you have to say or cup there too mean to Kate. Good. How would you say I went to Kenya with my sister on Kenya? In French Is another masculine country just easily. Oh, Kenya Avik Massa Just easily Oh, Kenya Avik Massa I'm in Japan today, but I'm going to China tomorrow on Japan in French is masculine whereas China is feminine. Did you see O Japon three Major Vahan Sheen, The mom. If you switch off your phone should be Major Vahan Sheen demon. Now he's useful time freeze that you can use to talk about the past in French Line 18 year Lenny Dania. It means last year. Lanie. Dania, literally. It means the last year because you always have to use the word look in front of it in French. So, Lanny Dania last year. Lanie means the here on Danielle means last so How would you say in French? I went to France last year. Just recently on forms. Lanie. Dona, Did you see that? Leon? France. Lanie Dona. How would you say it was last year? Said they landed in year. Say they landed in year. I couldn't go. Last year, gin poopy Barzani landed on you. Pigeon poo People easily. 35. 3 Minute French Lesson 56d: How would you say in French last year I went to France with my family. Lanie. Dania. Just easily on four months of age for me, Lanie. Danielle. Just easily on phone Savic Math for me. I went on holiday abroad with my parents last year and it was fantastic. Just recently on back owns a let down Djorovic Me Homeland India near a city Fantastic. Just with the lay on back Owns Electron Djorovic, Maple Homeland Engineer A city Fantastic. So, Lanie Dania means last year. Well, we can change Lenny to blossom in on Get last men. Danielle, last amended in year means last week literally. It means the week last blasts men Dan year. So how would you say in French? I went abroad last week for two days just easily, just with a electrons landed near port. Did you? So in this lesson, so far we've had just three Ali or just recently? Meaning I went Agency pasani, which means I didn't go. Lanie. Nine year last year. Onda Last Mendon year means last week. So how would you say I spent three days last week in Paris j past 12. Your last Mendon year. J passe Twice. Your Last Mendon year. A party. I spoke with Pierre last week. J. Palais Avik Pierre Last Mendon Year J Palais Avik Pierre Last Mendon Year. 36. 3 Minute French Lesson 56e: How would you say in French? We didn't eat here last week. Noona. Bam bam O J c. Last Monday? No, I am a J. C. Last year he was here last week, but I don't know where he is today. The lady is Silas Mendon Year. May June is a pop. Well, l a TTC last Mendon year. May June is a pass. Well, I told you so. We've had Lanie Dona Meaning last year. Last Mendon year. Meaning last week. Now, in this next phrase, you'll notice how the word damn year changes slightly. Lumwana. Danny Lim. What, Danny? It means last month, Ramadhani and again, literally. It's the last month. Look wide any but you always have to use the word loan in this phrase in French. Damn. Yeah, Vis is Danny. We've now seen these three phrases landed in year meaning last year. Last men down year. Meaning last week on blue Mahdi Army. Meaning last month. The adjective down yer means last on The feminine version is Danielle, and they are pronounced slightly differently. You'll notice that to make it feminine. Not only do we add an e to the end off Danny, but we put a graph accent on the E in front of the are and what this does is it makes it an air sound rather than a sound. So the feminine down the air is pronounced with an air On the end, the masculine is down. Yay! So learn a down year last men down year. But Lim wa Danny on because the word down a on damn near our adjectives, meaning last they come after the noun. So the noun czar Lanny, meaning the year last men meaning the week Andi Limb wa meaning the month on. Then the adjective comes after them. So Lanny Danielle literally means the year last last Mendon year, the week last, the Mahdi Army, the month. So try to remember that the word month is masculine, whereas year on week are both feminine. So we say Lanie Dona Last Mendham Year put Lim Hwa Danny 37. 3 Minute French Lesson 56f: We've just seen the three phrases Lane Aidan Year, Meaning last year. Last amended in year. Meaning last week. Andi llamada me meaning last month. So how would you say in French? I saw her last month. Did you leave you the Mahdi Army? Did you leave you somewhat, Danny? And so don't forget when you put the word for her which is love in the past. In front of the auxiliary verb, the past participle gets an E on the end. So that's why view hasn't e because the word her is in front of the Oder River is your slave. You llamada me? How would you say? Last month I went to the cinema with my cousins on. We saw a fantastic film, Ramadhani, just easily. Oh, cinema avec Makuza a news avenue and feeling fantastic. Ramadhani Just Visalia Cinematic Makuza in loving you and feel fantastic. So in this lesson, so far, we've had just recently meaning I went. Did you see any? I didn't go Let me down here last year. Last Mendon year last week And Lamar Danny, Meaning last month. How would you say? Last month, Helen visited Pierre in France on they spent three days in neath llamada me Ellen, visit a pier on France A is on past 1200 Ramadhani Ellen, a videotape here in France a is on past 12 0 unece We finished everything last month News of on to Feeny News of onto for me Danny, remember that when you're using the past tense in French, the word to meaning everything tends to come after the auxiliary verb and in front, off the past participle. So literally rather than saying we have finished everything you say we have everything finished news of onto Feeney, the model me. 38. 3 Minute French Lesson 56g: How would you say in French they didn't order anyone when they ate here last month in common in non Paco Monday. Divine Condi's um Monge A See what? Any. So we use do Von rather than duvan for any wine in this sentence because its a negative sentence. They didn't order anyone. And don't forget when it's not any and it's just the word do. So you know, I'm back on Monday. Devon, how would you say last month I worked in Paris, and tomorrow I'm going to work in Marseille. Lumwana. Any Jake tapper gave a party edema Jovita on. Yeah, me too. Mom, if you want to say that you did something a certain amount of time ago in French, you use the phrase Delia for ago. You might recognize the phrase Delia. We learned that it means there is or there are. However, it also means ago. Andi, It's used in a slightly different way in French, in English. We put the word ago after the time phrase, for example, two days ago. But in French, you put Elia in front of the time phrase. So you would say Delia literally ago, Two days. So Ely at do samen Elliott. This min means two weeks ago or even at noon. Ilia Yoon means an hour ago. So just to reiterate Delia followed by a time is the same as saying a time, followed by a go in English. So if you just remember that Delia means ago and you place it in front of the time phrase in French, how would you say I went to London three days ago? Just easily along the A 12 just weaselly allowed under the act Wenzhou. So literally I went to London ago. Three days. Ilia 12 Jewel. 39. 3 Minute French Lesson 56h: How would you say in French? We ate here two weeks ago. News at J. C. Yeah. This men news Appelman J D C. Area I saw Pierre three weeks ago. JV Pierre Elliott Westman JV Pierre Elliott Twice women Marie called an hour ago. Marry happily Marie Appalachia une the word for minutes is the same in French as it is in English. You just pronounce it Min Ute instead. So how would you say in French, the film started five minutes ago. Le film A common say Ilia Cinque Minute the film a common say area san commute. How would you say everything finished four days ago to a Fini haircut for you, Tiffeny Cattle. So little You're saying everything finished ago. Four days toe Delfini Ilia. Katherine. So in this lesson, we've had just easily meaning I went on. If you're a woman, you put an extra e on the end. Although it doesn't change the pronunciation. So just to Danny Gin CPAs Ali means I didn't go Lonny down here means last year. So the word Lenny is a feminine known So Dan year is the feminine version off the adjective . Similarly last amended in year last men. Dania Means last week. Lumwana, Danny Ramadhani eight means last month So damn yea is the masculine version off the adjective for last? Then we learned that Delia means ago and you place it in front off the time in French, reasoning that we say the time first and then ago in French, you say Delia And then the amount of time so easy at this, um in for example, would be two weeks ago. 40. 3 Minute French Lesson 56i: It's time now to practice what we've been learning in this lesson. How do you say in French? I went to the cinema yesterday just easily. Or cinema? Yeah, just easily. Or senior year. We're going to Mexico tomorrow. Lose alone will make sick demand. New Zealand Don't make sick, Mom. I didn't go to the restaurant, but I went to the cinema with Marie and Sophie Regency Bazaar. Or has the home major Swiss away Oh cinema avec marry a Sophie Gentry Plaza Leo esta home Major Swiss Aleo cinema Like Marie Sophie I couldn't go last year because I had no money. Gin prove a puzzle landed in the past I wanted to buy it last week, but I couldn't find my card. Julie last a last Monday near major movie Pat Javelinas Teles Mandan Near major input A pact I spoke with Marie a week ago. GPA Talovic Murray Iliac winsome in J. Pavlovic Marie Ilia Insulin. I saw the film four days ago, but it was terrible. J Villa Film May l A data Ebola. I gave you a film. A category may elect a terry. So in this sentence, we say aleady, which literally means he waas. That's because life in in French is a masculine noun And so we have to refer to it as he so a late date Their regular in English was a It was terrible. But in French you have to say he was terrible. Last year I went to Canada for two weeks with my family on I spoke lots of French. If you just heard the sentence, then you would be hard to tell whether the look in front off Les Les View was a masculine or feminine look. So it could mean I saw her yesterday. I saw him yesterday or even I saw it yesterday. But in writing because you can see there is an e On the end of vu Julie View, you can see that the alert stands for a feminine HLA, which means it means her So Julie Vu when as an e on the end of the view means I saw her Julie View. Yeah, I saw her yesterday in Paris se communion Petite watcher Stay calm. Yeah, une petite. What? You How much is a small car? Jay has a vast stolen on this myth. Jay has a vast Jones stolen on this myth. I have a reservation in the name of Smith. 44. 3 Minute French Lesson 57a: Let's start this lesson with a quick recap of the words and phrases that we learned in the last lesson. How do you say in French? I went we just recently I didn't go. Is unity Battle E Last year. Lanie Dania Last week. Lesser men down here last month. Um what Danny ago? Ilia. And don't forget that in French you put Delia in front of the time phrase, whereas in English, the word ago comes after the time freeze. Now, in the last lesson, we learned the phrase Lanie Danielle, which meant last year. Well, here's the opposite line. A portion Lenny portion means next year. Lenny Portion. So how would you say in French next year? I'm going to Paris. Lanie Portion Juve Apart, Lenny Portion. Visa fee. Last year I went to friends on Holiday. Next year, I'm going to Spain. Lanny DeMya just easily on forms on Vacco's Lenny portion is your raison Espana Lanigan year just easily. Influence of Macron's Lenny portion. Juve on a spaniel. Do you want to visit Paris next year we leave you visit. They buy Lonny Portion. Do visit a parallel. Any portion. Michelle is going to stay at my house next year. Michelle. Various station. What? Lenny portion. Michelle. Various. Stay. Shame. What portion? I'm going to spend the holidays abroad next year. Juvie Passe livre Cons. A little Jay Leno portion Juvie. Pastel evac owns electron Jailani portion. 45. 3 Minute French Lesson 57b: So now we know that Lanny portion means next year. And so you can probably guess what this next phrase means. Less samen portion blossom in portion. It means next week last men portion. So how would you say in French? I'm going to see Marie next week. Juve Bois Marie Less Men portion Did you have were married last men portion? Or how would you say next week I'm going to France. Lastman Portion Juve in France Last minute portion Judaism forms Are you coming to England Tomorrow or next week? My nephew, along with their on the mound will a cement portion v onto On on Latrell Doma will ask men portion I'm in Spain tomorrow and then next week I'm in France is your sweet and a Spaniard imam A pre Lastman portion is your sweet on farms. Did you see on a Spaniard amount? April estimating portion Industry conference. Sophie and Charles are going abroad next week. Sophie A shall want Olatunji. Last men portion. Sophie A shall von Saletan J Lastman Portion. Now the word portion with an E on the end means next in the feminine version off the adjective. Now let's look at what it looks like when it's used with a masculine known Lumwana portion . Lew Moir Pasha means next month. So Moi means month, and it's a masculine known, So we use the masculine version off the adjective portion, so we've now seen the phrases land a portion. Last Men portion. Andi Lamar Portion Lenny. Caution means next year. Last Men portion means next week on no more. Portia means next month. Now the adjective portion means next in the masculine, and the feminine version is portion on there, pronounced as you can hear slightly differently. So poor Sean Portion Portia push in in English. We get the word approaching from the word push on, and you can sort of see if you look in the middle of the word approaching that the word push appears. If you think Lhasa Men portion means the approaching week, then it might help me to remember that Glassman portion means next week Orlando portion, the approaching year or next year. Lu Moi portion the approaching month or next month, so portion is the masculine portion is the feminine 46. 3 Minute French Lesson 57c: How would you say in French? Where you going next month? Over to Lima Portion. Well, if you love potion, are they going on holiday next month? 20 years on the council And what portion? Volunteers on Macron's next month. I would like to visit my family in Germany. Lamar, Portia Juve Dry visiting my fami on Alleman you Lamar portion June visit for me. So in this lesson, we've had Lenny portion meaning next year Last men portion next week. Andi Lamar Portion next month. How would you say we're not going to Portugal this month? We're going next month. Noona. Lampa Oh, Portugal, Someone news alone. Look more potion Nunan pass apart. You got someone New Zealand lamb a potion. Now we've already learned how to say this quite a while ago. Remember that the masculine word is soup Spelled ce on. The feminine word is set spelt c e t t e. Well, now we can use these words to say this week This month Andi this year said samen means this week someone means this month and set any means this year. So because samen on Danny are both feminine in French, then we have to use the word set in front of them, whereas because more is masculine we use the word, sir. So said samen someone and said Honey, Tsunami, know the words for last this and next. This is to a quick recap. Last amended in year means last week said Samen This week. Onda Last Men portion Next week. Um what down the last month? Someone this month. Lim Hwa Portion Next month. Lanny Damn Year Last year. Sit on me means this year Andi Lanny Portion means next year. They both mean I live in Andi. You use when you're talking about a town or a city and on when you're talking about a country. So you beat huh? And jab it home. So how would you say in French? I live in England? J beat along with their jab it along with I live in Nottingham. Jab Nottingham. Jab it are Nottingham. 48. 3 Minute French Lesson 57e: remember when I spoke about the difference between on and, uh I said that they both mean to Andi in, but you use arm in front of countries on a in front of towns or cities on then I went on to say that most countries in French are feminine, but a few countries are masculine. The feminine countries are the ones that you can use on with, whereas the mass killing or plural countries need to use Oh spelt a you or all spelt aux Well, when you use the phrase jab it, the same rules apply. For example, jab it on France means I live in France because France is a feminine country. Whereas jab it makes sick J b to make seek means. I live in Mexico because Mexico is a masculine country in French. So we use all au to mean in. So how would you say in French? I live in Canada? Yeah. Pete o Canada. De Vito, Canada. For this next sentence, you'll need to work out how to make the phrase Is your beat negative. So how do you think you'll say I don't live in Spain? Did you not beat Pat on the Spaniard is your not be passed on a span You So you wanna be pop means I don't live So you put the end apostrophe in front of a beat on pat after it So you're Naveed. I don't live. How would you say I don't live in London? I live in Birmingham. Gina beat Barcelona Birmingham. Gina beat Barcelona habitable Mangham. How would you say I live near Paris? Jap eat, Pray the body. Jab it. Prayed the patty. And so in this sentence we don't need to use the word, uh or on. Oh, because we don't say in in English, So jab, it means I live. J beat ah means I live in. But because in this center to say I live near we don't need the word Uh, we need the word for near which is pray So I live near Paris. Jab it Prader Bali Jab paid a Patty 49. 3 Minute French Lesson 57f: How would you say in French? I don't live far from Marcy. Gina beat Juan de Marci. Gina beat Pat Luanda Mcfc. So again, in this sentence, we're not saying the word in. So we don't need to say, uh but instead we're saying, far from so we say Luanda, I don't live far from Marseille Una vita wander Marseille. How would you say I'm living here? J b e c j B c. So, actually, the word jab. It can mean I live or I'm living same in French. So how would you say I'm living in Paris with my family? Now? Jab it. Apari avec my fami mental JB tapa avec moi For me mentally, I'm not living with Sophie. I'm living with Marie. Do not be Pacific Sophie job et avec Marie Gina Bean paddock. So she jab it. Avik Marie. So, Jeb, it means I live. Let's make it into a question and change it slightly every day. View Abbey debut means do you live or are you living everyday view? So how would you ask? Where do you live? Who? Abby table. Whoever debut? Do you live in France? I'd be Dave one phones Abbey Davidoff wants. So Abby, Dave do is used when you're speaking formally or in the plural. If you're speaking informally, you would say instead I've eat too. I beat it too. So I beat it to means Do you live or are you living when you're speaking informally? So how would you ask? Informally? Where do you live? Who are you to do who have it too? Well, How would you ask? Do you live in France? I beat you on phones I beat you to on France. So because I beat the sound and in the letter t a beat on the word to starts with a t. Some people you're here pronounce it as one words. They rather saying I beat too. You're here. I beat too. But most of the time you're here. A little gap in the middle. I beat too. Say I beat it. You're in France, or I did too. In France. 50. 3 Minute French Lesson 57g: How would you say in French? So in this lesson, we've now had Lanie portion meaning next year Lastman portion next week in what next month landed in year last year. Last amended in year last week In what? Are you here on holiday or do you live here? A t e c o Macron's Who would be too juicy? It was easy on back. Owns do a bit a voici. Now this next word might not seem very useful on first glance bought that Explain why it's very useful in a moment. The word is Dupri, the pre on it means since the pre And you might be wondering why I've given you the word deeply meeting since, but actually in French, it's quite a useful word and we can use it in a very useful way. If you want to say something like I've been living here for three months in French, you make the whole sentence a lot simpler. What you actually say is, I live here since three months. Yeah, BTC The pre memoir J btc, Dupri, Tom Watt. The reason for this is because the English structure I have bean ing doesn't exist in French. So instead of saying I have bean living here, you just say I live here. Jab it. Is he so Yeah, BTC the pre 12 more literally. I live here since three months but it's absolutely English. That makes it a bit more complicated. I have been living here for three months, and in actual fact, when you hear French people speak English, if they're not very fluent, you might hear them say things like, I live here since three months rather than I've been living here for three months because that's how you say it in French. So they might assume that's how you say in English in a similar way. If you want to say something like, How long have you been living here? Well, you say instead, since when do you live here? The pre cum Abby Dave. We see the economy, Dave. We see so literally. It means since when do you live here? But in English, we do make it a bit more complicated on the question becomes, How long have you been living here? I think that it's a much simpler way of saying things in French, but this in itself can cause problems. Very often, your brain will think that you haven't said enough words in French, or it might try and make the French sentence as complicated as it is in English. But don't worry because all that is normal when you learn something new in a foreign language. In some later lessons, I'll introduce you to some very good techniques that you can use to stop your brain from making everything over complicated. However, for now, just learn two or three sentences using this structure, and then you'll start to get to grips with it so you could write these next two sentences down J btc deep reduce. Um, in jab it is. See decree, Dustin men. It means I've been living here for two weeks, although literally it means I live here since two weeks. The next one is a question. The pre call me Dave one forms the prick on Abby debuts on farms. It means, How long have you been living in France? But literally it means since when do you live in France? And obviously you can change the country into a different country or a town or a city on change sentence. So this week, on a bt vewy see, how long have you been living here? Or the African objetivo? Aparri? How long have you been living in Paris? 52. 3 Minute French Lesson 57i: How would you say in French? I've been living here in Paris for two months. Btc, Aparri, The Prix de moire. Jeb UTC Aparri The pre dm one. How long have you been living abroad? The become a beating to electro energy. Do become a bit of well, a Twinkie. I've been here for two hours. Just really see the pre dessert. You see. You see the pre deserve so literally. This means I am here since two hours just we see the pre deserve. But in English let's say I have been here for two hours. How would you ask? How long have you been here? The African HTC Oh, the African at Voisey. So again, literally mistress means since when are you here? The pre car 80 BC. How would you say in French? I've been living in France for four months now. J B conference Different cat. What month? Jeff Burton phones different cat woman's no salutary. It just means I live in France since for months now. So in this lesson, so far we've had Lenny portion meaning next year last men portion, which means next week Lumwana portion next month. Lanigan Yeah, means last year last Mendon year last week. Llamada me last month. Sit on me means this year, said Samen this week. Sim wa means this month J. R. And jab it on. I mean, I live in jab. It can mean either I live or I'm living. I need to is Do you live or are you living in the informal version on every table? Is the formal or plural version off? Do you live? Or are you living the preet means Since on then the sentence Jeff Beatty See, the previous men means I've been living here for two weeks, but literally in front. You just say I live here since two weeks. So whenever you say in French, I've bean doing something you just say I do. So you just use the present tense. So I've bean living here. You just say I live here. Is your btc the pre dustman? I've been living here for two weeks 53. 3 Minute French Lesson 57j: So we've seen that the word Dupri means since. But you can use it to say how long you've been doing something. However, don't forget that. It can also just mean since So how would you say in French? I've been here since last week. Just three e c d. Poulos Mendon year. Just really see the pre last men, Daniel. So literally in French, you say I am here since last week. Just three e. C means I am here the pre last Monday near since last week so really could think Whenever you see the phrase I've bean If you're still there, then you the same French. Just three, which means I am. So if you say I've bean here since last week well, you're insinuating that you're still there. So you'll say just we we see the pre less Mendon year. I've bean here or literally. I am here since last week. How would you say we've bean a brewer since last week? New storms Olatunji, Duplass, Mendon Year. Newsom's Electron Jay The protests mundane here so literally it means we are abroad since last week. Now a useful thing that we can learn in this lesson are the days off the week in French. We can use them with the word Dupri to make some new sentences on. They'll go nicely with another phrase that we learn later in this lesson. So let's have a quick look at the days of the week in French. Landy. Landi can mean either Monday or on Monday, so you haven't got to use an extra word in French to say Landy. If you want to say on Monday, Maggie Maddie means Tuesday or on Tuesday. Maddie Mecha G Math Cookie Means Wednesday or on Wednesday. Mech Honey is your d means Thursday or on Thursday. Judy. See you notice. So far, they all ending letters. D I, Landy, Maddie, Method E Judy on the d. I is actually from the Latin word meaning day Vonta d Vonta d means Friday or on Friday. Sandy. Sandy is Saturday or on Saturday, Sandy and then the last one doesn't have the letters D i at the end, but it does have him at the start. Diminish game off means Sunday or on Sunday. Diminish. So remember that in French you don't have an extra word for on if you want to say on Monday . On Tuesday, you just say Monday or Tuesday. Landi, Maddie Mech Ready, Judy, Vonta OD, Sandy Diminish. And actually the days of the week do come from certain words. For example, Landy Landy comes from the French word loon, which means moon. So Landy is the day off the moon. Lune de Moon Day on in English. We call it Monday. Landy. Mandy. Well, Mark is actually the planet Mars. So Mahdi is the day off. Mars or Mars is day in English. We call it Tuesday, which comes from to Who was the God off war. But in French, it's Martyrsday. Landy was Moon Day, Maddy Mars Day. Macaroni is Mercury's Day, Mecca D in English. We call it Wednesday on That actually comes from a knoll Germanic word. War dinners, which means mercury. And so we do. Call it Mercury's Day in English as well is your D? Judy is Jupiter's day. So the day off Jupiter in English was a Thursday, which is actually the day off. Thought so. Thought was day. Von Hadi in French is the day off. Venus von caddies and Venus is day in English, we say Friday on the fry part comes from the Germanic word frig or Frager, who was the Germanic godless off love. And that's the equivalent of the Roman goddess Venus. So in English, Friday is the equivalent to Venus is day and in French Vonta. T, then some D Sandy in French is the Sabbath, Day 70 in English, Saturday actually means Saturn's day. So the day off Saturn and then finally diminish de monts means Dominica's. On dso de March is Dominica's Day, which is God's day in English, we say Sunday, and so we say the day off the sun. So Landy, Matadi, McCready, Judy Vonta, the sandy diminish are the days of the week in French. 54. 3 Minute French Lesson 57k: We've just seen the days off the week in French, Landy, Mandy, Mecca, de Genie, Vonta od Sandy on demand Onda. We also learned that the days of the week in French can be translated in two ways into English. For example, von body can mean either Friday or on Friday. Another thing to note about the days of the week in French is that they're all masculine. What that means is that we have to use the words down near to me last on Portia to me next in their masculine form. So, for example, Matadi, Danny Malady Donny means last Tuesday or Matadi portion Maddie Portion means next Tuesday the deep ocean. Now, if you put the word Lou in front of any of the days of the week or literally, we get the Monday or the Tuesday because look means the put. In actual fact, Landy is translated into English as on Mondays. So by putting low in front of the days of the week, we may hit on and then an s on the end. So on Mondays is Landy so meaning all Monday's every Monday. Lombardi on Tuesdays, Lameck Adi on Wednesdays, Leisure D on Thursdays. Live on candy on Fridays, bluestem D on Saturdays on Lady Marsh on Sundays and some friends you don't important s on the end. You just port Look in front in English, out to put an s on the end of the day of the week. So if you just say Dimanche, it could mean someday or on Sunday. But if you say le Dimanche, it means on Sundays. Finally, there's one more thing we should learn about the days of the week before we can start building some sentences. If you put the phrase to lay in front of any of the days of the week and you put an S on the end of the day, then it means every what? Every day you're talking about. For example, to lay Landy to lay Landy means every Monday, because to lay means all the and we have to make the Day of the week plural by putting an s on the end to lay Landy every Monday to lay Maddie every Tuesday to lay Makurdi every Wednesday to leisure D every Thursday to live on honey every Friday to lay sandy means every Saturday Andi to lady moments means every Sunday. So to lay literally means all the so to lady March literally means all the Sundays. But in English, we say every Sunday. 55. 3 Minute French Lesson 57l: We've just seen that you can put the phrase to lay in front off any day of the week and make it plural by putting an s on the end and then it means every in English. So Julie Landy means every Monday. Well, we can also, at the words matter, or swear to the end of these phrases toe add morning Andi evening, respectively. For example, to lay Sandy Matalon to lay Sandy, Madam means every Saturday morning to lay sandy matter Andi to lay sandy sua to lay sandy sua means every Saturday evening. So just noticed that the day of the weakest floral. But the word Mathon and swat are not parole. So let's just take the word MEChA g meaning Wednesday. Andi recap all the different things that we can do with it. So Mecca lead by itself could mean Wednesday on Wednesday. Mac, Daddy, Donny Last Wednesday. Make a deep ocean Next Wednesday, Lemack Candy means on Wednesdays to lay macready means every Wednesday to lay make sandy Mathon means every Wednesday morning and to lay make for the swat means every Wednesday evening. So the day the week by itself just means the day of the week in English or on the day of the week. We can add the words Danny or portion to mean last on next and we add them to the end. We can put the word look in front of the day of the week and that means on on then the plural. So Lameck Hadi on Wednesdays. But you don't at the s on the end, in French, you can put to lay in front of the day the week on, make the day, the week plural on it means every and then you can add the ways marathon or swat to the end , and it means morning and evening. I would write all those down on a cue card just so that it can start to get familiar with them. How would you say in French, we're going to Paris on Wednesday? News alone. A party Macready New Zealand Aparri Make honey Onda a natural fact in French. More often than not, you'll hear them use the day of the week at the start of the sentence. So you're probably here Mercante news along the body, which mea
