1. 12How To Use the Live Paint Tools in Illustrator: Hi there. My name is David Tyminski, and I wanted to thank you for choosing this course. I know that there is a lot, Of course, is out there. That is why I am so grateful that you chose this one. Welcome to another episode of the every illustrate. It'll explain Siris in this particular class to learn how to use the life painting told in a looser. So if you want to know how to color your artwork the easiest way using life painting, how to use the life painted pockets to and how to use the life selection to enroll in the class because it is a consigns source or Thora illustrator knowledge great for newbies and everyone who feels that learning a piece of software like illustrator can only be efficient when you get to know that tools it offers. But you don't have toward all the videos to gain a real life knowledge. Each lecture is stand alone, so you can just select the tool that you want to learn today. Watch that particular video and watch your skills to grow So in row in the class and I'll see you inside 2. 1How To Use the Paint Bucket ool: In the next few videos, we will talk about the life paint tools that with the life paint math that you paint more like you would with a traditional coloring tool without regard to layers or stacking order . All objects in a life pained group are treated as if they are part of the same flat surface . Now this means that you can draw several paths and then collar separately, each area enclosed by these paths. You can also assigned different stroke colors and waits to portions off a path between intersections. How intersecting parts of Phil's are called faces and parts of strokes are called badges, and you can feel each face and stroke. Each adds with a different color. So once you've made a life pain group, each path remains fully auditable. When you move or it's just a path shape. The colors that hadn't previously applied get automatically re applied to the new shape. So that's all theory. But the best way to learn how to use the life painting in Illustrator is by practice, so it's practically understand the idea behind life painting. I got a set of paths with no fills, just strokes that in a second will be turned into a year Yang sign using the life paint method to use it. First, we need to select the objects and then go to the object menu life paint and then make. Or we could use the Altera option plus shift plus X shortcut. At first glance, not much happens. The paths look exactly the same as before, but we can notice that illustrator has turned this set of pass into a life in the group in the upper left quarter right here. So how can this will help us? How in orderto paint over the life pain group faces and anges, we need to initialize the paint bucket tool, which sits right here along with shape builder. Till we talked about previously. It's shortcut is the letter K, and if you think you're going to be using this tool a lot well, it's a good idea to memorize it. Now. With the to selected, we can hover over the Life Pain group and notice that illustrator is highlighting the faces within the group. It highlights the parts we can now assign the colors, too, And did you notice that this little color swatch preview we already saw when working with Schapelle there, too. If we just press the arrow keys will be able to select the colors we want and just click to add that collar. Now, if you're wondering if you can pain strolls with the life paint bucket full of, the answer is yes. But I mean, in order to pay this strokes with the tools you need to double, click on its icon in the Tours panel and select the paint strokes option. Now when we hover over a strong aura, Naj, technically speaking, the cursor changes into a brush symbol, which means that when we clicked right now, the stroke is going to change its color to the color of selected in the SWAT preview. Now, you might also be wondering if we can change a stroke with not just the color. Well, yes, we can, but we have to use another tool for that, which we'll talk about in the next video 3. 2How To Modify Live Paint Groups: Now let's take a look at how to modify life, pain groups and elements forming them. We'll start with the life pain selection tool that sits right here, along with the shape builder and the life pain bucket tools. And as you can see, it's shortcut is shift plus L. With the tool selected, we can hover over a stroke. You want to effect and notice how the cursor changes when doing that and when we just click , will select that stroke and will be able to change almost anything about it. Let me move on to the stroke panel real quick, and if you don't have it up, you can just go to the window menu and then choose stroke. And here we can change the stroke. With we can change the cap, we can turn it into a dashed line, but we cannot sign a different profile to it now. As for the faces, we can, of course, changed the filled color. But we can also fill it with a pattern or with a Grady int. You can also Marquis around more than a one face and edge toe. Apply colors to them At the same time, there is also one little trick. How we can select all faces or anges would the same appearance to change them simultaneously. Let me make these two ellipsis half the same fill color. And now, if we just triple click on one of the ellipsis, the other one gets selected as well, because triple clicking on an object will select all objects worth the same appearance. Now we can change the fill color off both ellipses at the same time. Another nice little trip you can use when creating life artwork is merging new paths with existing life paint groups. What's joy, simple line and selected along with the existing life pain group. Now we can tell Illustrator that we want to include this particular line in this particular life pain group because we decided that we want to create more faces. So all we have to do is to go to the object menu. Life ain't merge or just click merge life paint in the control panel. Now we can paint newly created faces with the life paint bucket, just like so now, before we move on to exploring life paid options, there's one more thing to mention that is so really important when you're done creating your life paint artwork and you wanted to be a regular shape. Here's what you have to do. Select the life paint group. Go to the object life ain't and then expand. Or you could just go to the control panel and click Expand. Now the Life Ben Group is a regular group, which can be checked here in the top left corner. Sometimes illustrator users, instead of using the expand option, used the release option that sits again under the object and then life paint. But notice that as soon as I do that, as soon as I release the life paint, the group is reduced toe artwork with no fills and 1/2 point wide strokes. So just keep in mind to expand life. Many groups, if you want to keep them, not release no life painting is one of the most interesting features in the Illustrator, but also one that requires some experimentation to get the hang off, which which is what I encourage it to do on your own. In the next video, we'll take a look at the life options, so stay tuned 4. 3The Live Paint Tool Options: the life paint bucket options, so let you specify how the life pain bucket tool works. Choosing whether to pain just fills just strokes or both as well. It's how to highlight faces and address as you move the tool over them. You can see these options by double clicking the life pain bucket tool. So first the paint fills option will make the pain pocket at collars to the faces off the life paint groups on the paint strokes option will allow you to paint the edges off life pain groups, and we already saw the cursors watch preview in action. If you want to see it, keep this option on and remember that you will always see three color swatches of the selected one, the previews one and the next one. The highlight option outlines the face or edge, and the cursor is currently over. Noticed that the faces are highlighted with a thicker line and address are highlighted with a thinner line, and if you don't like the default color set for the highlight, you can change it here. We can also specify the with off the highlight where the maximum value is 72. As for the life pain selection tool. The options here are pretty much the same. We can choose to select just the strokes, just the Phils or both. We can change the color of the highlight and the width of it as well, so these options are pretty straightforward, and life painting is pretty much a straightforward process. However, there are some limitations to it that you need to be aware off. For instance, you can't turn a life type into a life paint group. You have to convert it into outlines. First. He also can turn a bit mapped image into a life pain group could have toe life, trace it first. Also, you can't use the bland Stoller option with the life pain groups. You can use Grady and mashes or clipping masks. But still, life pain is a fantastic tool, and I'm sure that if you practice with it a little bit, you will want to use it a lot. Now, in the next video, we will wrap the class up and talk about the class project, so don't go away 5. Class Project: for the class project. I'd like it to just grab an object that you created before or create an object for the life painting purposes and then just play around, too, with their life painting options, or just grip on on the inspiration objects that I created for you. So the 1st 1 is this Eun Yang symbol that you saw in the class, and you can just grab it and then just try to retrace the steps that I took in the class and to just add colors to all these symbols. And you can also grab this star that I created for you. And as you can see, there's a lot of edges and a lot of faces that are going to be ultimately created. So let me just just quickly grab this start, go to the object menu than just life paint and make. And now if we just grab the life pain bucket just like so and now we can just just experiment with all these different colors and you can just, you know, create a multi color star just like so. But what the main purpose of this, this inspiration, Let's say, let's call it like that of this inspiration is eulogised trying. Teoh, get the hang off the life paint bucket in life pain selection So you can see how it is to work with this with this tool and how to create different different shapes and different colorful shapes with this with this tool. So I hope you really like this glass. I hope that you will find it useful and that you will give this life mental Well, a try, at least to try. And it will be great if you gave this class a thumbs up and you submitted your project because, well, both of them will really help this class and getting noticed by other by other students just like you that want to learn Illustrator. So as always, have a nice design. And my name is David Tyminski.
