1. Intro To Reading More : Hi, guys. Welcome to the skill share class. This still try class is going to be all about how to increase your reading because I feel like as a child, this myself included. Ah, lot of us went to libraries. We read a lot. We run in our rooms. We read night under the covers where parents thought we were asleep, that sort of thing. But then as we got older, we had less time. And then we have these other things, and then it just everything gets kind of contorted, And you just like I'm not reading anymore. You just come this realization or you're like, I'm only reading a book a month when I would want to be reading four books a month or whatever. So that happened to me about a year ago. And then I just was like, Amy, you gotta get yourself together. So I want to share stay with you. Ah, bunch of different tips and tricks to help you read more. You know whether again that's reading a book in a week. Four books in a week, a book in a month. Whatever your goal is, this is gonna be a sculpture class to help you incorporate a little bit more reading into your life, so that interest you go ahead and click on to the next plus. 2. 10 Tips For Reading More! : Okay, so first feel share class tip. This is going to be probably one of the easiest tips for you is to set a goal and to set a daily goal. So whether that's reading 20 minutes a day or whether finishing 50 pages a day, you could do by pages you can do by minutes. You could do it however you want, or even if you have to do it every other day of the week because you can't do it every night. Whatever is, just set yourself a goal. My personal goal is I want to make sure reading at least 15 minutes a day and usually was, I'm I'm reading 15 minutes a day. I start reading into 30 minutes and 40 minutes personally. So set yourself a goal. Make it a reasonable goal. Start small if you have to build it up. But start with that. So that way you can start to feel accomplished. Like oh, I read 15 minutes every 15 minutes a day on when you think about that, that's really going to add up quickly, because that's gonna be over an hour, a week that you probably weren't reading for so set yourself a goal. Figure out what you can do reasonably with your life to start reading more. The next one is a set, a time of day. Now. I have read a lot of various sources. Some people say, Well, do it first thing in the morning. That's the best way to make sure you get it done. But other people like myself. I read at night in the morning. I'm busy. I'm starting my work. I'm starting YouTube stuff like I'm going all over the place. So for me, it's nighttime for you. It could be a lunch break. Just figure out a rough time of day that you think you'll be able to reasonably read. So if you have to cancel out some TV at night, if you wanna wake up 15 minutes earlier in the morning to read, whatever is going to help you to read it just set a place at a time to read. Because if you have a habit of going to this place around the same time every night or every morning, that's gonna help you to get to the habit of reading because you're gonna be habit stacking , which is that help you to get into the habit of reading faster. This is something that sounds silly, but you will read so much more than you realize doing this and that is to bring a book with you. Wherever you go, bring a book to work. Bring a book to the doctor's office. Keep if you're If you have a purse, keep better person. If you have a car keeping your car, whatever you can just keep a book with you. Because if you do not, you're gonna be amazed how many times you're in line waiting for something like you're going to get prescription at Wal Mart. You have 10 minutes and you could see in their reading. You can sit there waiting and your doctor's appointment. The doctor ones late for 20 minutes. There's 20 minutes right there. I recently got my tires rotated. I read for 40 minutes because I brought a book. So bring a book with you and you're gonna be shocked at how many more pages and minutes you're going to accomplish reading just by having a book on you. Because how much time do you spend scrolling through Facebook or Instagram or whatever is on your phone that you're probably just mindlessly doing and not even really getting that much out off when you could be reading something awesome and exciting or interesting, you know? So bring a book with you. I cannot stress how much this is held by reading game so much. Keep that book with you. I don't care what anyone says bring up with you abuse if you think about it. If you read five minutes a day outside of the house because you are lying doctors or you're getting your oil changed or you have a little extra time at lunch or you got somewhere early and you're sitting in your car waiting to go in for your appointment or job, that's five minutes. Let's see you five minutes every day of the week. That's 35 minutes and loves times that by four and you get the point. That's already two hours a month. Which for me, per I mean depends have actually but for me, two hours a month, that could be a whole book for me. I do read pretty quickly, so just think about it in that way. Five minutes doesn't seem like a lot, but Honestly, you're gonna enjoy it. Warren, stroll on your phone. Probably, and you're gonna get more out of it. And you're gonna be excited if you like. Wow. I'm finishing this book faster. I love this. This is exciting. Cool. Awesome. So total definitely bring your book with you. It will make such difference. Okay, next tip. This is going to sound silly as well. Perhaps, but make sure you enjoy what you're reading. And I know that sounds silly. Like, why would I read a book I don't enjoy? I don't know. You know, you might be reading a business book that you think will make you look really good because , you know, it's on important book and oh, I'm gonna be I look so smart cause I'm reading this really advanced science book. But if you're not enjoying it and you're not learning anything from it, what's the point? Don't care what other people think. If you enjoy reading romance novels, radio romance novels, if you're like me and you enjoy reading a cozy mystery book here and there Read that. I definitely suggest nonfiction if you can. If I think you're gonna learn more from it. But don't feel bad about reading fiction and enjoying a romance novel or cozy mystery or fantasy book. Whatever it is, just read what you like, because if you don't enjoy what you're reading, it's just gonna sit there. It's gonna sit there for, like, a month, and then you're gonna be like I can't believe I didn't even finish that. I have all these other books too. If you like it, drop it. That sounds silly, but drop it. And if you for me, I run books in the library primarily. And if I have been in business book that I think looks really good but I'm two chapters in and I think this book is just stuffy I dropped the book. Don't care. Drop the book. You There's so many books to read. If you're reading something and you're not liking it or you're reading it for the wrong reasons, drop it. Okay, Drop. Just find something that you will actually enjoy and love, because if you do, you're going to go through that book so much more because you're gonna be excited. You really Oh, what's next in this murder mystery O was the next tip on this time manager book That's super interesting. You're gonna be engaged with it. And that's more important than reading, stuffy book that you don't like that you're not gonna retain much room. And then a year from now, it's going to be like, Why I waste my time? Don't do it. I just Please promise me you'll another thing. And you realize that you just don't have the time or patience or desire to read a 700 page novel. That's okay, too. I personally, I don't like reading 800 page books. Life. It's just too much, you know, 203 100 maybe 400. Okay, but like those insanely long books to me, I just lose. I get distracted. I lose focus. It's not for me. So another thing to consider is if you I prefer shorter books and that's okay. All of us have different intentions. Fans all of us learn in different ways. Some of us can keep up with an 800 page novel, and they enjoy and they love, and that's fantastic if that's you. But if you want to reach your books, that's okay, too. That doesn't make you any less of a Lerner, I promise. Another thing I suggest is that have more than one book on hand that you were excited to read. So let's say you were reading a really awesome Mr Novel or great nonfiction marketing book or something. Have your next book already rented from a library or bought or however you get your books borrowed. Whatever. I have that book on hand. That way, you're not you when you're reading the book that you're currently reading your like all this book's great. I love this, but I'm so excited for this next book I'm gonna read, Have your to read Booklist. You know, I already have a stack of four books over there, which, maybe is a little overkill. Probably is, but have books on hand that you're excited to read. That way you don't get stuck on one book because it's like, Oh, well, if I finished this book, I don't have anything else to read. Have books on him already that you are getting excited to read. You're gearing up to read. That way you're motivated to finish what you're currently reading us. Well, nothing as just track your reading. I only started doing that this year, and I so regret not doing it. Let me show you. This is my note book. This is my really bad color. And yes, I printed this out. I pasted it into my notebook. But this is my books to read. Okay. Books to Read II uses my books. I've read Page, but whatever. I have a giant less as you can see, these air all the books that red I've listed them. I think I missed listing a few of them. I'm not used to this, but I'm currently over 32 books. I think I've probably read closer to 40 this year, honestly. But regardless, if you have books, if you have a list like that, not only is that amazing encouragements, it's like, Wow, I've right 10 books this year, While I've read two books this month. That's awesome. You know, it gives you encouragement, but it's also amazing reference for me. I've already gone back and milling. What was that book I read in January? That it was really good about time management? What was that book? And I have it written down with the name of authors. I could go check it out by it, you know, So it's really good weight. It not only motivate yourself because you're like, Wow, look at all the stuff of red. Or even if you're not proud of how little you've run, you could at least say, Hey, I'm starting to do something tips in this video and look at me. I've already read a book this week and before. It took me months to do that. You know, it's a good way to encourage yourself and you have great reference as well. So if you ever want to read something, cause I love to read books personally, you have a list, and it's just exciting to see. And I cannot wait for a couple of years from now to look back for four years later to look back at what I read in 2018 because it's like, you know, I read some really good stuff. Or did any of these folks become favorites that I had to own and have read multiple times since it will be really cool to see, so I highly suggest that seems silly, but it really helps. I also really cool City might hit a milestone, you know, I'm really gearing to hit 50 books by the end of year. So for me that if I hit 50 I'm gonna be so proud of myself. That's just something really exciting. So keep that I might. Next thing this is, you know, this is really dependent on your personal style, but audiobooks think about all the time. You know, maybe you're walking your dog. Maybe you like to walk around downtown area. Maybe you are driving to visit family and their 40 minutes away. Or maybe your job is only 20 minutes away. But if you listen to audio books, if that's something you enjoy that's gonna help you to read a lot as well. And some people I know are auditory learners. I personally for I have tried. I have tried. Maybe you could give me some tips. I can Alison audiobooks Because I completely zone out. And then it's like five pages later, and I'm like, What happened? It's not for me personally, but I want to throw it in there. If you are someone who feels audiobooks, take advantage of that trip to go see your mom. Take advantage of 20 minutes to work because that's 40 minutes a day. And if you wanna work five times a week, I mean what? But thats all gonna add up? I think that's the root of this video is to look for ways to just add up time because 15 minutes reading every night doesn't sound like a lot five minutes reading every time you go to the doctor running air and get to work early, that something doesn't sound like a lot. But if you add it all together, even in a weekly monthly look, it's going to be a lot of books. So definitely check out audio books. Is that something that you can listen to and enjoy? I would totally recommend that next thing is just a prioritized. If you're watching this video, I'm sure you want to be really more for one reason when, whether it's because you used to read a lot and you're like, Why don't read anymore? You have all these books you want to read that you just have about around Teoh or you just realize you're not reading like you used to. You need to make this a priority. So at night time, if you typically watch four episodes of whatever is you like to watch cut out that last one . You know, watch the episodes every day and then spend that last 30 minute, whatever long time to read. And that's just gonna make you feel better. You're gonna feel a little more accomplished because there's nothing wrong with taking time to watch TV. There's nothing wrong with that at all. But reading is probably going to be more educational. It's part of a state with you longer. So if you would you eliminate a little bit off other things in your life to make time for reading, eliminate a little bit of that TV, that sort of thing, choose to prioritise reading because in the long run, it's gonna make you feel better. You're gonna have all these great stories. You're gonna be better writing. You're gonna be better with your vocabulary just because you're constantly putting in all this great stuff in your head. So just make it a priority, Seaview. A little bit of something. Thio added. Another 10 minutes of reading every night. Whatever it is, just make it a priority. Okay, so for tip number nine and 10 kind of co joined basically it. You want to try joining a book club or find a friend of yours or family member who loves to read? If you find other people who like to read, you're gonna be reminded to read more. We'll be talking about books they read and, you know, in the Book Club they might have, like monthly book challenges where you might read specific books. So you find, like a mystery book club that you really might like because you love mysteries. That might be a good idea. Just find people who enjoy to read books, and the last one is find a great source for book recommendations. So this could be a part of the book club recommendation were around other people who are reading books suggesting books, that sort of thing. But you can also find inspiration online or through other people you look up to. So, for example, one of my favorite YouTubers is Roberta Blake. He's a graphic designer, a youtuber businessman, entrepreneur. Lots of things, and he will recommend from books and I run a couple of books, he suggested, and they're really good. See if you can find your famous people that you enjoy see if they have book lists. I like Oprah has a Booklist You could find entrepreneurs that you admire have different books that they recommended that really inspire them. Find a source where you're getting constantly inspired to read new books, different books, books outside your comfort zone books inside your comfort zone. Just find inspiration for more books that you're constantly feeling the desire to read because you're like watery. This book that was recommended and this book sounds so good the more you want to read, the more you're going to read. So I hope this video was helpful for you. I had a really fun time building it. These are just some of the tips and tricks that I have found to really help me read more because for I used to be such a big reader in like, yeah, Middle School Lunch for school. I was bringing so much high school thing I saw quite a bit. But then I hit college, and I was so busy with college that I stopped reading a lot outside of, you know, my college textbooks. So these air tips that really helped me get back into reading. So now I'm finishing usually two or three books in a week, and that's something that makes me really happy. I'm enjoying more. It's more enjoyable than watching TV at night for me or watching less TV at night. For me, it also promotes sleep and helps my nighttime routine. I do have a class all in evening, other productive evening routine, which you can find that down below my skill share platform. But otherwise, I hope you enjoy this class for the class project. Just leave us a list of your favorite books, books that you read that just inspired you for one reason or another. Let us have a job where they are. That would be super awesome. I know I would love some more recommendations. So tell us your paper books in the class project section, and please don't forget to review the class that really helps spread this class so people could watch it and see it as well. Thank you for watching. I hope you have a fantastic rest your day and get some reading done by
