What is Hand Lettering?

Hand lettering is the skill of drawing letters and fonts on your own, instead of relying on a digital platform. It can be used to create stunning original invitations, postcards, and marketing materials, and can also help you practice other elements of basic layout design.

Unlike general penmanship or calligraphy, the focus of hand lettering is to draw and illustrate letters in their truest form—instead of just writing them out beautifully. (Though you’ll likely find that there is some overlap between hand lettering and calligraphy, including lots of techniques that carry over if you’re interested in both art forms.)
